He's a great teacher! He really enjoys what he does and makes the class fun with group activities and he even made flints in class to show us how it was done. he's really funny and his discussions aren't your typical boring lectures.
A really nice guy! He was very unbiased. He will be open to your view (whether conservative/liberal/religious/ or just plain crazy :P ) even if he might not agree with you. I usually hate class activities, but I learned a lot from his.
He is an excellent teacher. Very quirky. He tells you to read the books, but I didn't so as long as you get the jist of the main idea you'll be okay. You learn a lot of stuff about diversity. Conferences are interesting. His definitely was! 500 word essays are a breeze.
Very easy class. Only a few small writing assignments and tests, which were pretty simple. He's a nice guy, but can be really boring at times. I found myself struggling to stay awake some days, especially when he put on movies.
Also had him for AN 205. Class was fun and very entertaining. He helps you understand what is going on in the reading.
Took him for cultural anthropology. Thought he could be boring during lectures, but you will leave the class knowing more than when you walked in. Make sure you study the book because his tests ask some little details he never talks about. He does a good job making class interactive at times. His assignments are not too bad, and he grades fairly.
Very Passionate about Cultural Anthropology. He wants us to "get it". One of the most compassionate instructors that I have had thus far. Not an easy course, but if you show up, take notes and pay attention to lecture and study, you will do well. Oh, and he does have a question on every single test about ethnocentric.
This guy was awesome. I never found Anthropolgy exciting but I do now. he made it interesting and his excitment for it rubbed off on you:)
I loved him as a prof. He is very enthusiastic and gets excited about what he's teaching. His tests and homework is really easy but it's informative.
Professor Carr was great! He made cultural anthropology interesting. He used a good mix of media, reading and class participation. The class was rarely boring (even for a Mon. morning) He well informed and experienced and had a great unrstanding of other cultures and it showed. The only down side of his class is no extra credit.
LOVE! He's an excellent teacher. He explains everything so well, uses all types of teaching techniques, and his class is so much fun I looked forward to it every week. He is very passionate about the subject and you can't help but get excited too.
This is my favorite class from all the classes I have taken at GRCC. He's very friendly to his students, and made us feel comfortable in class. He taught his lessons perfectly, and if someone had a question he would answer in a nice and helpful way.
He responded quickly and to questions I emailed him and the answers were helpful.
Professor Carr, more than any professor I've had, REALLY knows his stuff. This guy knows just about anything you ask him and all the outside details around that also. It's rather astounding how good he can explain what he is talking about and make you engaged and thinking every day you are in his classes. This guy is great. Take his courses. Any
Professor Carr is one of the best professors I have ever had at GRCC! He keeps daily lectures interesting while giving all the information you need. I would take any class he is teaching any day. It doesnt hurt that hes nice to look at as well. The work is super easy, lots of group work and fun assignments. Great class!
Professor Carr did a great job leading a course online. I do not recommend taking this course online, far more work is required than in a classroom setting. This is a tough course that required a ton of reading and work at home. Carr was helpful when contacted.
Prof Carr is really passionate about Anthropology, it's clear when he lectures. He just isn't always great at making the lectures interesting for the rest of us. Lots of in-class group activities. He's really nice, very outgoing but just a little boring sometimes. Not a hard essay grader at all, only homework was "reading" and a few essays.
What a great Professor! This class has changed may perception of the world, but in a good way. Very interesting lectures, laden with common sense and academic honesty. Prof. Carr is very passionate and confident about his subject. He truly knows how to transfer knowledge in effective way. I would take him for every class if it were possible.
Very engaging Professor! I learned a lot through this class. If you pay attention to the lectures and read what you are suppose to, it is a fairly easy class. I would definitely take another of Professor Carr's classes.
Class is so easy you don't even need to show up. Everything on the tests and what the papers are based off of is in the book, so make sure you read it. If you fail this class it's probably because you're lazy. Carr is a cool dude and really into Archaeology, but many of the things he lectures on aren't on the tests at all.
he's a cool dude and i also took him for AN 205. half of the material is in lecture, the other half is from the readings, but i barely read the book and still did fine. he's entertaining and there is a lot of group work, but it's fun work. not a hard class and a good prof and definitely recommend taking his class.
Loved this class online. We had assigned reading to do, but he would post lectures for us also. I really liked that because it gave further explanation on the readings, which is usually what you miss out on by taking classes online.
He is all he's cracked up to be. Very interesting to listen to. Not many points total in class so every point counts. Tests aren't very hard, he isn't too tough on the short answer part. However, he didn't like to return tests which was frustrating.
I took this online so it might be a little bit different in a classroom setting- but he was great online! If you participate and give your opinion you will pass the class. He was there for help if you needed it but personally didn't need the help. I would recommend him to anyone who is taking an Anthropology class! He knows what he's talking about!
Fantastic teacher (and class). Have nothing but respect for this man. One of the best at GRCC hands down.
Awesome teacher, hes really funny and engaging, played monopoly one day. in order to pass, you really just have to come to class
Professor Carr was great at teaching this course, which is not my greatest interest. His lectures were very clear and everything was organized well enough for us to understand. Participation on discussion boards are required for a grade which was a boost in my grade. If AN210 is not for you, but it is required take it with him! He is the best!
Professor Carr does an excellent job of teaching his course online. It's not hard class at all, but you do have to try a little. The quizzes and testes aren't that hard just watch his lectures.
Awesome teacher, who is clearly passionate about what he teaches. He doesn't assign much homework besides 3 two page papers that aren't terrible. Would definitely recommend going to class though because thats what his test are mainly off of. Also gives reviews that are helpful for tests. Made a not so interesting class interesting.
Great prof! Made learning about Cultural Anthropology fun and enjoyable. Reading is a must, but the prof does give out a study guide. The lectures are fun and enjoyable as well as informational. We also played Monopoly and it actually related to the material, fun and educational. Great prof and extremely intelligent definitely a must take course.
LOVED his class. He's a blast and really knows his stuff. I missed a lot of class due to personal circumstances and I'm bummed. Not because it made the class difficult (I still got a good grade) but because the information and class were so enjoyable. You don't use the textbook much but you'll have to read the too smaller books.
Very helpful, kind professor who is genuinely interested and involved in his subject matter. Assigns interesting books. Medium-length lectures over BB that keep your attention. Would definitely take again!
Wow, is he passionate about anthropology, and he knows his stuff. I loved listening to him give lectures- they were exciting and fun. If you study, take notes, and go to class you'll get an A. His study guides are really helpful. I really will miss this class.
His online An280 class was pretty much self taught. There were 4 essays worth 25% of your grade, and tests were over the textbook. READ AND BUY THE TEXTBOOK! It's really important that you keep up with the readings since the tests are over the readings and tests are 50% of your grade.
Really enjoyed having professor Carr for AN 210. Anthropology isn't something I am really interested in, but he made the lectures as interesting as he could. If you go to class, take notes, and read the book, you will do well. I would definitely take another class of his in the future!
I really wish I had Prof Carr for actual in class lecture but I had a few complications with my schedule. Anyway, this was my first online class & I'm so happy I had him. He is super organized & does a well job with making things clear. You have 4 papers & 4 tests which are easy if you do all the work you're required to do & study! Cool subject too
AMAZING PROF! Super funny, relatable and intelligent, he makes learning about history a breeze! I would highly recommend him to my friends. You write three essays and take three exams, so it's easy to lose your A, but it's also easy to get an A. He's super understanding and willing to work with you. An awesome guy
After taking this class I am wondering why its not mandatory for everyone to take this class, Carr is a very intelligent professor who really knows what he is talking about and really does what to educate students. I would recommend it for any major you're going into.
We had essays for every unit. Nothing too hard. An amazing professor. Made it easy to understand what anthro is about. Every unit we read some chapters out of various books. Q's about the readings in the books will be on test. Study everything that on those study guides.
This was a life changing course for me. This class should make you question just about everything. Professor Carr is extremely passionate about anthropology (he has a PHD), and it shows. This is the kind of class that if everyone took, the world would be a great place. Take this class. It's so good.
Professor Carr was pretty chill. I'd taken this class just to meet the credits but I actually learned a ton of things I'd never considered looking into before. Not only this, but he seems very passionate about what he does. He also ends his points or ideas with "in here" or "in that regard". I thought it was pretty funny. I counted 147 one day.
Very passionate and goes out of his way so that you learn and understand concepts. Participation matters! He will sit there and wait for someone to answer his questions. Tests were lecture and book based. Beware: he plays the Indiana Jones theme song at the beginning of every class period. This can either be extremely great or extremely annoying.
I took AN210 online. He did really well preparing our class with the same materials as his in-person classes. I missed turning in one assignment at the start of semester which killed me. His tests (for the online class) were tough. He uses his lecture for most of it and unless you take excessive notes it's hard to get an A. Great guy though!
I took this online in 7 weeks during the summer. It was so organized and you knew exactly what was coming each week. The exams were hard, that's what got me. Don't expect to look up all the answers on quizlet. You HAVE to read the books he assigns (you will write essays and discussion on it), the textbook is a little more optional though.
I really enjoyed Professor Carr's Intro to Anthropology class. I was prepared for a pretty dry, dull class, but he found a way to make it more interesting. My only qualm with the class as whole is that there were no opportunities to improve your grade besides the 4 tests and 3 essays.
Professor Carr cares very deeply about this topic and does a great job of communicating the material to his students. This class really made me think about the "why" behind simple concepts and changed the way I view the world. I highly recommend taking this class for any field of study you plan to go into because it will make you a better person.
This class was great. It was super interesting stuff and very relevant. Professor Carr really knows his stuff. The only problem I had was that it was on a Monday morning, so getting to class was a struggle and if you don't come to class, you won't do well. But, when I did go to class, I actually enjoyed it. I'm taking more of his classes soon.
Dillon is one of the most sweetest guys I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He recognizes different walks of life & obstacles individuals may be facing. You can tell right away he is extremely genuine and will actually smile at you while he instructs. He will work with you. Just respect him. :) Thank you so much for everything this semester.
An extremely FUN and all around genuine guy. Appreciate and respect him! Much love!
He is one of the best and one of my favorite professors. He is inspirational, genuine, passionate, and just amazing! I will never get bored and tired of listening to his lectures. Take his AN210 class! This class, HIS AN210 class is life-changing :)
Super great professor. He is very passionate about Anthropology. I learned so many interesting, relevant things that have changed my perspective on a lot of issues. I feel like I came out a different person after taking his class. I'm taking more of his classes. Read the book, go to class, pay attention, and you will do fine.
Be ready to write some papers and read a lot! This was one of the most work intensive gen ed's I've taken. That being said, Prof Carr graded fairly on the papers. The tests were difficult. Some questions were literally mentioned in one sentence. Loved the free textbook! Ended with an A- with a lot of effort.
This class was so amazing, and maybe my review will be biased because I ended up changing my major to cultural anthropology after this class (it was so good!). I found the class to be incredibly informative and inspirational. I felt like I grew as a person. The class itself isn't terribly difficult. Do the assignments, read, and you'll do well!
Dillon is a really great professor. He jokes around sometimes and his lectures are engaging. The reading materials were just three slim books, though you can get bored with them. Grading is a bit on the rocky side, but straight forward.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Energetic, funny, and an all around amazing guy. Read the books, show up to class, and you'll pass easily.
Amazing professor. He has high expectations and I wouldnt recommend his class to those who havent taken an online course before because its easy to fall behind if you miss readings or lectures. However, his classes are engaging and genuinely informative. No arbitrary work. Youll learn some new from every assignment. Best of GRCC, no doubt.
Interesting to listen to, makes content relevant and easy to understand. Wants you to succeed.
I enjoyed his class! The tests are bit harder, but if you read the textbook and understand the "key terms" from the study guide he provides, you will be fine.
Prof. Carr is an excellent teacher and genuinely cares about both the students and material. I've taken all of his classes at GRCC and would retake. Unfortunately, GRCC has a long list of Prof's who are there just to fill a seat and collect pay. He is not one of them. He enjoys his filed of study. You'll learn so much!
I took this class online and Prof. Carr was very organized and clear with his expectations. The material and how he taught were interesting and engaging. Hw was reasonable. He is a tough grader!! I got the same grade for my papers no matter how hard I tried. The quizzes were HARD-you would really need to study each chapter. Would not take again.
You have to read A LOT which isn't the problem but it is SOOOOO boring. His lectures are SO boring. I've never fell asleep before in a college class besides this one. He NEVER gives 15/15 on the assignment papers. Even when I asked him what was wrong with my paper, he just said i barely ever give 15's out... The exams were hard and tricky.
Study and take good notes, because Carr's tests are tough, but his lectures are fun and he has a lot of personality. I like the variety of material he assigns and he's clear on what he expects and when projects are due. Online discussion posts are fun because they're creative and 'out there' but he gives plenty of structure and flexibility.
Best professor at GRCC. The lectures are very engaging. You have to read a little but I think the readings are interesting. There are 3 papers to write and theres no reason to not get the 15 out of 15 if you go to lecture and read the assigned readings. One of my favorite classes
His lectures for this class are a few years old but still great! He really makes you think about the world around you. This class was everything I hoped it would be.
Great professor, he does amaing lectures. I learned extremely well with his explanations, he goes into great detail!!!! Except online class, he has a flaw of having you heavily learn with the textbook. I learned well with him lectures but he is essay and textbook learning heavy. Still a good professor, would take again... But a LOT of reading...
Took his class in 2020. . He made in-person lectures fun and engaging. I would take him again as long as it was in-person. Due to Covid we moved to an online format and his online pre-recorded lecturers put me to sleep.
Prof Carr doesn't interact a whole lot online which I find annoying, there is no feedback on papers and no weekly updates. Tests are very hard and if you don't read what you should be reading you will not do well. I feel like if you get a low score on a test it totally destroys your grade.
Pretty easy class as long as you pay attention to lectures and read whats assigned. We had 4 tests and 3 essays over the semester.
He very good professor for lectures but absolutely no direction what you need to study for exams and no exams review.
He is very passionate about anthropology and gives damn good lectures. Take his class to avoid the other required diversity type classes.
Lots of discussion boards, but guidelines for all assignments are very clear. Three exams and three essays, but exams have study guides and essays have a clear rubric. Wednesday-Tuesday week, so you can work over the weekend.
For an online class I thought the work, lectures, and readings were easily manageable. There are some books that you will need to get for the class and make sure you read them because the info will be on test/essays. There are not very many assignments so you will have plenty of time to read the books and apply the knowledge.
Professor Carr is a wonderful teacher, I've taken three of his classes: AN201, AN205, & AN210 and I enjoyed all of them! He's friendly, does great lectures, explains concepts well, and is overall a really cool guy. His online classes are a tad repetitive, but that did make them easy lol. If you enjoy anthropology, take his classes!!!
This class is quite tiresome. Too much repetition and if you work full time you will not enjoy his class. He is big on critical thinking but wants to know how you feel. Just try to get through the unnecessary reading and you'll do fine. He is not very helpful with email responses He knows his classwork is difficult Work is outdated.
Professor Carr was great. There were not a lot of assignments. So just try to do your best on what he gave. A paper every week, lecture videos, and a discussion post. There were 3 tests and no final exam. I do not test well so thats the only reason I got a B+. Overall would take another class from him.
Amazing professor who truly cares for his students. Three essays and four exams so not many grades. Discussions are engaging and some fun in-class activities. Definitely recommend taking him if given the choice.
Lots to read, but good class very interesting. Tests were hard if material wasn't read completely. But if you read the material the tests shouldn't be too bad. Helpful when needed. Gave lots of links for sources. Nice guy.
I took Professor Carr's AN210 class in Fall 2024, and it was great! He's knowledgeable, clear with directions, and pairs engaging lectures with in-class activities. The class isn't difficult, focusing more on anthropology basics. He's an easy grader, accepts late work, and study guides make tests manageable. Highly recommend this course!
Very easy class. Quizzes and tests are not too hard. Clearly writes down what to remember for each test.
Very interesting lectures. I feel like what I learned is something I will carry with me forever. Professor Carr was very knowledgeable and kind, and he almost always found a way to get us to engage in the class. Textbook was free online. Would highly recommend!
This was one of my favorite classes I've taken. I loved the subject and professor Carr made the lectures super interesting and explained things in a way that made sense. I also thought he was hilarious and the class activities were so fun
This professor kept my interest in a class that I initially thought would be boring. I took the online accelerated course, so every week there was a decent load. However, I not only enjoyed the way the professor organized the class, but I felt like he tried to make the lectures interesting and relatable.
I took this as a dual enrollment student my senior year of high school, I loved it! Dr Carr was very kind, I reached out to him via email every so often and he always replied within a respectable time frame and seemed to genuinely care. He is a very fair grader, as long as you do what you are expected, you will do great in the class.
