Great instructor. Makes material comprehensible and manageable. Provides great feedback on assignments and is always willing to help. She is nice and cares for her students. Make sure you read the book, it is needed in order to pass the class. I would definitely recommend her.
JS105 is generally a hard class, especially for those who are new to APA writing. JS105 consists of weekly quizzes and 4 writing assignments- both are tough. as for prof kameda, she is very helpful and has VERY QUICK email response time. her downside is her lectures are really boring!! but to be fair, how can anyone make this subject exciting??
This is one of the greatest professor for the Justice Department. No need for me to say more, if you don't take her class for JS 105 it is your lost. The class is hard but if you do your assignment, I would probably ended up with a B.
extremely clear and helpful, just a bit monotone during lecture
The class is challenging, but Professor Kameda is extremely helpful and very approachable. She is willing to answer any questions that students have, and help them to the best of her ability.
Dina is a wonderful teacher. She is very fair and is always ready to help when questions arise. She is religious about checking her e-mail and responds ASAP! Sometimes class can be boring but it's not her fault, it's the subject matter. I give her a lot of credit for making it the class that it is with what she has to work with. Take her class!
Dina is one of the best teachers for the justice studies department. I had her for both JS100W and JS105. The subject material for both classes were hard, but she made the class manageable. She is EXTREMELY helpful, open, and responds VERY quickly to any emails you might send her. You can't go wrong taking her class...
Very approachable and open to feedback. Wants everyone to succeed, so she will proactively address foreseeable issues. But, make sure you show up for lectures, because she will provide important information on assignments, provide tips for success, and address common mistakes made on assignments.
She's a very communicative teacher. Although the subject material is difficult to understand, she will assist students in any way she can. The downside is that the lectures are painfully slow and skipping them is not an option due to the complexity of the material.
she is very smart, and works very hard. She doesn't take a day off, so either should you. study hard work hard and she will see that.
Kameda is great! She's helpful if you have questions, always available after class, and gets right back to you if you email her. She makes the material understandable and makes it extremely easy to get an A in her class. I'd recommend her to anyone who needs to take JS 105.
I loved this teacher she cares about her students and is very smart. She will take time to help you if you don't understand, she always makes herself available. One of the best teachers at San Jose State guarenteed.
i wouldnt take her class ever again
She is a good professor, very professional and helpful when you need it. This subject is not fun, but I did much better than expected, it easier than you think. Overall a good and punctual teacher. Would recommend her to others.
She is a great instructor, highly recommended for JS100W. Very approachable if you feel lost in the course of the semester. Very helpful with all the assignments. I regret not taking JS100W erlier with her.
Dina is a great instructor. I would definitely take another one of her classes. A+.
great intructor!
very good teacher
Kameda is one of the greatest professor for the Justice Studies Department. I took her for my JS 105 in the summer, it was hard but she is very helpful to the students and I had an A for her class. I took her again for 100W for the fall, this class was fun and again she was very helpful to student. Students you should take Dina Kameda.
Kameda was one of the few professors in the department that are available and easy to contact almost anytime during the day or evening ( since she checks her e-mail religiously). For all those taking 100W you think about taking Kameda's class because she is a great instructor.
An incredible person with alot of courage. Getting through this semester, with family illness and all is extremely admirable. She could have missed some classes and no one would have thought any less of her. She speaks in a soft voice. Do the readings, get to class...she gives you so many examples to do your proposal on...and she's always there.
Take her for your 100W. She is always available if you need help. She responds to emails at lightning speed and is very helpful with assignments in every way you can think of.
Dina is a great instructor. She is always supportive and available when you need her assistance. She responds to all her e-mails ASAP. Her class instructons are easy to follow and there is never any confusion with her lectures...unfortunately I cannot say the same for all JS instructors. She was born to teach. Definetely take her class.
Great Teaching Highly recommended by alot of students. I would take her again
excellent teacher!
extremely helpful teacher. underneath all the lectures and coursework, you just know she's a decent, down to earth person. responds to emails very quickly. always approachable for help. allows for revisions of work, corrects mistakes, allows for points to be remade. lectures aren't exactly thrilling, but at least she's nice.
For some reason I ....really, really, really like this teacher. She will help you get through the torture of a 100w class, ALIVE! She's practically my hero. Is my english ok?...j/k
She is very nice, and always willing to help you get through her class. At times it will seem like you dont know what to do and she will hep you get through it. She lets you revise your assignments which is huge plus in my book.
She is very helpful, and approachable. Eventhough the material is a bit borring at times, she makes the best out of it. The best way to reach her is via email, she responds very rapidly. I also took her for JS100W, she was great! I learned alot. Highly recommended.
Kameda is probably one of the best professors to take 105 with. The material is not very intriguing, but Kameda will do her best to get you through the painful process of learning how to conduct research. You should attend each class and take down her notes from her ppt. She is always available for assistance and the best person to take 105 with.
In the beginning, when all the course material is laid out, it seemed like it was going to be a daunting task to complete JS105. However, Kameda structured the class in a step by step process that made it almost impossible to fail the class. She is very lenient and will work with students based on the class performance. She is a great teacher.
Essentially the class is very easy. You could fail the midterm and final and still receive a B as long as you make a conscious effort to go to her and talk about all of the information and hw that needs to be done. Don?t wait till half way during the semester start talking to her at the begging.
I had heard all of these horror stories about taking JS 105. I have to say Dina is one of the best professors I've had. She will make you understand any material that is presented and she will make the class flow as much as she can. She makes the course easy. She is also very approachable and is willing to help you 100%. Dina is Highly Reccomended!
extremely helpful and doesn't make u feel like an idiot when u do something worng
Dina is THE MOST crystal clear instructor I've ever had. There's no such thing that she would not explain to you in detail. If you don't get an "A" in her class is because you did not listen in class and you were lazy to do the assignments. No excuse. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
the class may be hard, but Dina make's it to where every student has the opportunity to receive an A. She lets everyone revise each assignment, so long as you try the first time, and the revision can be for full credit, which most teachers do not offer. she seems to have a passion for teaching and research so you can learn a lot from her
Dina is one of the two best teachers at SJSU. At first, all the assignments seem overwhelming but they turn out to be easy as she explains everything in crystal clear language. She is more than willing to help everyone and even takes time with you individually and she always returns e-mail questions. I highly recomend her. TK
she is awesome
She was a great teacher. I took 100W with McClure and failed. When I took it again with Kameda, it was great. I actually look forward in going to her afternoon friday class. It was not an easy course, but she was very helpful and makes it as easy as she can! She is GREAT!! Take her!!
Kameda is a great teacher. She helps all of the students as long as they ask. She is very honest and one of the best teachers at SJSU!
She was a very helpful teacher. Definitely take her for 100W. Easy grader if you put forth the effort!
She is very clear and what your assignments are and even gives you examples. However, she doesn't seem like she is happy to be teaching, or even coming to class. She doesnt seem like she's easy to talk to too.
D. Kameda is a great teacher and a great asset to the justice studies department. she makes a difficult course very manageable. she is very clear in what she's looking for, and will provide further clarification if needed. her father passed away this semester, yet she still put forth 110% into the class. i hope to take more classes with her later
I LOVED HAVING KAMEDA!! THE CLASS IS HARD BUT SHE MAKES IT AS EASY AS SHE CAN. SHE IS VERY DETAILED IN WHAT SHE WANTS, WHICH WAS VERY HELPFUL! SHE IS VERY VERY HELPFUL AND WILL ANSWER EMAILS VERY QUICKLY. SHE WAS A GREAT TEACHER I WOULD RECOMMEND TAKING HER!!
Great teacher, will help anyone. Take this class and you will be prepared for grad. degree papers.
I was a bit intimidated by 100W, but it was manageable with many emails to keep all the students up to date with what is going on. Walked out with an A after improving my critiquing and APA referencing. Pretty straight forward class, 4 diagnostics 4 critiques that all generally direct you toward your final research paper. 100W = Rite of passage. GL
I would not recommend her because she is really boring for lecture, plays favorites, and treats the class like 5 yr olds. I found her not easy to talk too. She seems like our class was an annoyance to her. There is a good side to her. She is very organized and is very good at keeping the class updated via email. She never returns anything on time
Do not take this teacher. The worst I have ever had in my schooling life! She hates teaching, never smiles and makes excuses every week for not being able to return graded papers. Her teaching style lacks clarity and she looks like she would rather die than teach. I have learned nothing and dreaded seeing and hearing her teach.. dont take her!
Kameda is a horrible teacher. She is not helpful at all and she is very condescending. She requires that you attend class every meeting and if you miss class you lose points. if you dont keep up with the book youll be fine, but she will tell you if you dont read you will fail. her assignments are absurd. she rolls her eyes if you talk to her...
The worst JS professor at SJSU. I am suprised she is still teaching. She is flat out a boring lecturer, and just annoyed when you try and ask her questions. She always talks about how she will help you but then gives you dirty looks, and rolls her eyes when you talk to her in private. She never retuen graded assignments on time. Horrible
I had to stick up for Dina Kameda after so many bad reviews. Yes, her classes JS105 and 100W are a ton of work and not easy. But she is helpful with critiques of your work. I have become a stronger writer and an APA wiz after taking 105 and 100W with her. I received an A in both classes. Great professor! Life changing experience for your writing.
She is very organized but seems very irritated about life in general. She brings her bad attitude to class every single time and creates a uncomfortable environment. Would not recommend her
Her class was very organized, and she was very helpful outside of class. She did expect you to come to class every week and do the reading (you're supposed to anyway, not sure why people are complaining). She did have personal issues over the semester but remained highly professional & responsible. I would recommend her but it won't be an easy A.
I can't believe that this professor got such horrible reviews. I am taking her for both classes JS100W & JS105. She is super organized, approachable and fair. She also returns your emails quickly if you have last minute questions. There's a lot of work but that's to be expected considering the subjects. Great instructor...highly recommended!!!
FIRST IMPRESSION KAMEDA CAN COME OFF AS VERY STAND OFFISH. BUT SHE IS AN EXCELLENT TEACHER, SHE KNOWS HER SUBJECT WHICH IS A BRAIN KILLING SUBJECT ALL TOGETHER. IVE LEARNED ALOT THROUGH THIS SEMESTER AND HOPE THAT I AM GETTING A B
She is the WORST teacher i have EVER had in my whole life. Sure i got a B in her class but i hated her personality and teaching style. First off, she seems like she doesn't want to be there, second she expects you to know everything, not approachable, unfair grader. Classes are incredibly BORING! And yes, she assigns alot of work..
WORST teacher i have ever had. Basically it was just the teaching style, not approachable, seemed depressed all the time, sure i passed her classes...but i felt like my grade didn't reflect my work..
Kameda has that eye-rolling attitude that makes me think she doesn't really have a life or care to be in class teaching. She also mumbles a lot and is VERY hard to hear. Her slides are good though. On the other hand, her tests are open note and her study guides are spot on. I only missed one MC question on the first midterm. EASY A!!!! TAKE IT!!!
This was an easy class. On the other hand, she's very horrible at giving papers back and told us multiple times she'd rather be elsewhere besides in class. Though she's condescending sometimes, she means well and can be extremely nice outside of class which is weird.
Professor Kameda is a pretty "Awesome" professor to take especially if worried about the difficulty of the material involved in the particular class. As long as you attend her class everyday, and ask questions she will help you in class, outside of class, via email, you name it! She breaks assignments down to not make it so overwhelming, and as lo
dina arrives to class each time looking like someone just ran over her dog. there are a rare few smiles from her...so if you are looking for a highly funny and entertaining teacher - she doesnt provide. power points are right out of the book basically. she only had 4 assignments for grading, so u really gotta make sure u do well on them.
This woman is miserable and it shows. She is very condescending to everyone, and she shows absolutely no interest in teaching. Pro: Virtually no work (two exams, one paper). Con: You will gain absolutely NOTHING in this class. It's sad that students pay money to take this useless class. I recommend every student AVOID KAMEDA!
BORING BORING BORING. ITS LIKE TORTURE, NO JOKE. She never returns assignments when she says she will. I read that on here and after taking the class it is sooo true. It does appear she hates teaching. If you do the work and are ok sitting through pointless classes you are spending thousands on, consider her classes for a decent grade.
Whyyyy did I sign up for her class. The MOST boring teacher you will ever take at sjsu or any other school. does not help and has the worst attitude, I can't believe she's still teaching, it makes sjsu look like a bad school for having her as a professor
Boring, basically reads off slides. Very negative attitude. Obnoxious responses. Easy tests since she lets you use notes. Pop quizzes, so attendance is important (she takes attendance). Very strict on APA format. Doesn't grade assignments when she says she is (always has a "reason" for the delay).
Honestly, professor Kameda's lectures can get boring at times do the powerpoints day in and day out. But other than that she is pretty laid back as long as you put forth effort with arriving class "on time" lol. As far as assignments and exams their pretty easy with a final researcg paper to conclude her course. I say take her if she is offered!!!
Kameda's lectures are extremely dry and boring. She comes off as always angry but if you talk to her and ask for help she is more than willing. Occasional pop quizzes and a term paper. Just attend and do the work, you will pass.
Great Teacher! Very helpful and understanding. She may lecture a lot but class discussion keeps everything interesting and enjoyable!
This professor comes off as a hard biker chick, but she is really a nice person, not talkative unless it is about class. Her lectures are more like conversations, and she has some interesting things to say. Loved her class and she was great
The absolute worst and disorganized teacher I've ever taken in my life. She spent a majority of the beginning explaining that online classes take real discipline while she refused to grade a single thing until after finals. In addition, since she couldn't grade anything she postponed our final 9 times. Biggest procrastinator, avoid at all cost.
She is tough but every understanding. I learned much more than expected.
Not helpful. Expected us to meet deadlines when she couldn't meet her own. Went the whole semester without anything graded.
She's terrible at providing feedback; the research proposal for her class is doable, and it's split into 3 parts so one can apply feedback from previous parts to the later ones. Well, we received NO feedback until finals. She postponed the due date of the final project multiple times (even after semester ended). Again, awful feedback and grading.
After seeing the reviews for this last semester about Dina up here I had to post. Yes, this last semester she took a while grading things, she was ill however, she graded easier. I really don't get why any of those negative feedbacks from dec 2014 are up here. Not only did she grade a tad easier, but her lectures are insightful. I learned so much!
She cancels class, but goes on a rant about people missing class for whatever reason. She does not have things graded when she says they will be graded. She said she would post our essay feedback for our papers, but she never did. The class was easy, but she was not the most pleasant. Avoid if you can, but if you need to take her, you'll live.
Required reading is exactly the same as the power points she reads off of in class, so there's no point in doing them. Except that there are random pop quizzes on the reading before class. So you get to choose: Want to die from boredom during lectures because you did the reading, or you grade suffers from the quizzes. Avoid at all costs.
Comes across cold and rude, even when I needed to go to office hours, I couldn't push myself to go. She makes students feel like they're a burden / stupid just for asking a question. I'm not sure why she teaches if she clearly doesn't like interacting with people. Passed the class but didn't enjoy a single class with her. Only take if you have to.
Prof. Kameda seems to dislike people quite a bit, however she is a good professor. She gives you plenty of time to get your work done in this class. This class requires a couple smaller papers and a large 2000 word paper, but that's 100w for ya. She is clear in expectations and will help if you need it. Just go to her office or after class.
Awesome teacher!!!!!!! Half online as well.
At first she was intimidating but if you go to her office hours, she's always willing to help. Yes it was a lot of work, which is expected since it is a writing class, but because of Kameda I feel like I am a stronger writer. She does have dry humor but I grew fond of it.
Theirs a critique paper, grammar worksheets, annotated bibliography, outline, and a literature review, which is all part of the final essay due at the end. I really liked how we did our research paper piece by piece it helped in creating a good final essay and she provided example papers on Canvas. She also extended due dates which is a plus!
I have taken three class with Kameda and I like her a lot. She does tend to get off topic in class, but she does give you a heads up at the beginning of the semester. She knows her stuff and is very smart. I also find her to be pretty funny. She's not a tough grader and is willing to extend due dates. I would definitely take her again if I could!
Read chapters before class and you will be alright. Professor provides power point slides while lecturing. Attending class is a must to succeed. Great professor.
She has no experience in the following areas: Law enforcement, Corrections, or Probation. She claims to back up her opinions with research. She's smart but I prefer teachers with real criminal Justice experience. She's really boring in her classes. I wouldn't take again.
Easy class but she talks from the time class starts, to the time it ends. Class is very boring but you need to show up because she takes attendance for participation. The class is one paper, 6 discussions, a midterm, and a final. Paper and midterm is super easy, just use your book.
At times it can be a boring class. She likes to lecture and at times she does get off topic talking about areas within the justice field she is not an expert in. But all professors do sometimes. Overall she is a solid professor & very knowledgeable in her field! Get to class on time, sign in and take notes/ask questions and you'll pass!
Super solid professor. Youll hear through the grapevine that shes intimidating but if you can get past that shes very helpful and straight to the point. She does go off on tangents though, so be prepared for due dates to change.
Takes her time with grading. Doesn't seem to be an active grader/responder in her online course. Her class isn't too rigor which I like. BUY/RENT BOOKS. it definitely helps. 7 Participation posts which are important & one research essay.
Hands down the most organized professor I have had at SJSU. She is lecture heavy and could be boring at times. She provides power-point lectures during class and goes in depth behind them. She has clear grading criteria and is not too strict on grading. She has an intimidating look and doesn' like people on their phone or packing up early to leave
Dina is probably one of my favorite teachers at SJSU. People give her a hard time because she can be a little intimidating, but that couldn't be further from the truth. She will help students who want help and extend deadlines. Her lectures are heavy sometimes but she walked everyone through every step of the research paper. WILL TAKE AGAIN.
She is not consistent with her grading. The lectures are her just reading off the slides in a monotone voice the entire lecture and talks from the beginning all the way to the very last minute of class and sometimes goes over time. She also goes on tangents about almost everything not related to the course. overall, I would not recommend her.
She is one of the worst teachers I ever had. She takes forever to grade assignments. The semester ended. I never knew my grade until three weeks later.
I really liked Professor Kameda's thoroughness of the material since the class was Criminal Theory. She provided lecture material online with a couple writing assignments that weren't hard with notes or the book. Professor Kameda has been very understanding with the class especially during the online transition bc of COVID-19
If you like to present, take her class. I feel like she's letting the class teach the entire semester. Or She teaches one day out of the week & the student takes the other day. I immediately dropped the class because the style of teaching. I recommend her other classes, not JS 189
HATED THIS PROFESSOR, DO NOT TAKE IF YOU ARE TAKING A NUMBER OF CLASS BECAUSE THE SMALL DETIALS MATTER
Gives 3 major assignments, takes forever to grade. Examples of assignments do not help. Monotone lecture recordings and is constantly coughing into the microphone. If you ask her a question, she makes you feel dumb and embarrassed for asking. Basically have to learn this very dense material yourself as she "won't give you the answer". Avoid her.
Will make you feel dumb or not answer your question . You only get 8 min for a 5 question quiz that is extremely hard if you do not memorize the chapter. Won't fix a grading error if she doesn't think it affects your grade that much. Very late grader Ive already walked graduation and I still don't have a final grade. Pick different Professor
I took JS104 and JS114 with her too. When you have questions about the assignment, she is willing to help you come over or clarify your question. However, she is busy, so if you want to get a fast response, attend her hour office. She looks like rude but friendly. Her class is not heavy, just a few assignments and quiz, no mid-term, no final.
She hates men and Republicans in general and will give a lot of her opinions and long monotone lectures. She also gave one-sided arguments about Trump during the 2024 election, she cried during class to sway the class to vote for Kamala. She is an easy grader though so if you want a free grade then take her.
I had Professor Kameda for JS101, and unfortunately, she didn't respond to her emails. I'm not sure if she even reads them. She doesn't provide extra credit, and everything must be submitted by the deadline. She only offers extensions if she's late grading. I strongly advise against taking her class; I had to drop it myself.
Dina Kameda is an awesome teacher. Not only does she teach the subject matter, but she is one of the best "how to" professors I've had. What I mean is she is excellent at teaching you how to do what the class requires of you. I do not think I would have done so well in all of the other classes without taking her writing course first.
took her in person, she is very lecture heavy that you'll often dose off. she's gives numerous chapter quizzes that are lenient. she makes u write a research proposal that is time-consuming and difficult if you miss class often. but overall super chill. only thing is keeping up w/ her boring lectures as she talks almost all of class
super easy class if you show up. Her lectures are long but she is very passionate and makes it interesting. Only very few assignments and one policy paper for the Final. We also had a video presentation but it is on Canvas. She gives points for participation by just showing up so show up!
This class was an easy-going experience. The workload is manageable with four group assignments throughout the semester and about two essays. Most of the assignments are straightforward, and the grading is pretty fair. Attendance is mandatory; the professor requires you to check in every class
