easy for some, hard for others. Definately attend the 8:30 class. Helps a lot, her notes are everything. Writes like a maniac tho...seems like she's got some problems! talks and writes way too much. just post up the damn thing. overall, good teacher!

She will test on material on you've never seen b4 to see if u actually understand the concepts or if u r memorizing, which is frustrating & effective. u need to go to class; will help u in anyway she can; goes through material fast so u can't fall behind.

Goes through material a little fast, but writes everything down on overhead..very helpful during office hours, and extremely nice..test questions much harder than hw ques..and goes over only basic ques in class. overall great professor!

DONT EVER TAKE THAT COURSE!!! But if u wanna suicide, then u may take it. Dont tell me that 10 chapters in a month is nothin. N group projects almost once a week!!! If u really think u have too much time, or u r lack of discipline, then that's the rite 1

EXCELLENT** Definitely one of my favorite professors at binghamton. A genuine professor who actually cares for her students and wants you to know the material. If she sees you know concepts on tests she is more lenient! Wholeheartedly RECOMMEND!!!

really good professor but goes a little fast. will learn more than in any other SOM course. takes up a lot of time. must learn to love group projects. if she sees you are trying, you'll do fine in the end. definitely recommend her class!

I loved the class. The material was at times tricky but she gave great lectures, and explained the material well. Did a lot of problems which helped, but to test your knowledge the problems on the tests were slightly harder.

The absolute WORST Teacher i have ever had.. Her tests are too long, she does not curve at all, speaks to fast, not a good teacher at all, in fact makes it harder than it really is. Has a cumulative final which is impossible and just could not be worse.

By far did more work in this class then any other class in SOM. But she cares about the students and is very fair, probably one of the best professors in SOM. Make sure you know ppl in the class because there is a lot of group work

love her teaching style! she goes a bit fast, but she's thorough. need to go to class tho. the work isn't easy but i wouldn't say it's the worse ever. she's nice with the grading. she cares about the students learning and not memorizing. partial credit on multiple choice, just need to show work.

The exams get increasing more difficult as the semester goes on. She teaches way too fast and refuses to slow down in lecture. Not too terrible of a teacher but its impossible to do well in her class.

calmmmmm down people. she's clear on what she wants from you. must do h.w. and go to class to do well. thats not asking much, just whats required. tests get harder, but SHE DOES CURVE. she changed the exam weights, and gives extra credit. very good professor. 15 extra hours is not necessary.

Very nice and good professor. You learn a lot in her class. Even though she moves fast through the material, it's by far the best 311 course I've taken in SOM. Grading is fair, she doesn't curve (she gives extra credit). She weighted the tests which worked in my favor, got an A-. I rec. it to anyone

Not the easiest class in the world but Professor Layish is extremely helpful and clear in class. Her lectures are so put together you really dont have the follow along in the textbook. Highly recommend, one of the best professors in SOM

Professor Layish is one of the nicest and most helpful professors in the SOM. She really goes out of her way to help students. The class itself is pretty tough (I'm not a finance major or pretend to be one), but I know that if I have a question, I can go see her and expect a good attitude, helpful suggestions, and a smile.

Layish is good, not great. She admits she goes too fast but refuses to make a sincere effort to slow down. She is very helpful in office hours and is a very nice person. Tests are too long for one hour and are difficult. She is decent but will never win a teaching award. Wears sexually seductive clothing. Overall, nice, HOT, and good teacher.

she is great! Even though she speaks really fast in class but it forces you to concentrate in the class and follow along with her. Lectures are very clear and she helps you out a lot. HW and tests are not easy, but you definitely learn a lot from this class. This is an interesting class. Strongly recommended!

Awful professor, her tests are not relevant to the material. Her multiple choice questions are based on the non-important things learned in class and are not very clear. She goes too fast in class and does not care if you fall behind. Extremely heartless.

Easy enough to do well in finance if your halfway decent at word problems and buy the financial calculator. People say she teaches far too fast but as long as you try, you can keep up and ask questions. She's really there to help and she knows her stuff well. Yay for Layish!

One of the best teachers I've ever had. Buy the financial calculator and read the chapter. Homeworks are very helpful. Layish is extremely bright. Although, it's difficult to get in touch with her sometimes in class, she's extremely helpful in her office hours. She gives great feedback too.

Layish is an intelligent teacher and teaches finance very fast but well. She is helpful at her office hours, but her tests definitely do not reflect the knowledge learned. I cannot begin to explain how much I have learned in finance and math is not my strong area. But be ready to get a grade you do not deserve. Knowledge gained however is helpful

She teaches (if you can call that teaching) extremely fast. Since lecture is not very helpful some people just skipped class and read the textbook instead. The tests are very hard, she does not curve and is very happy with the average being 70-75 and she makes the average a B-.One homework a week but since she doesn't teach they're pretty hard.

She tries to cover a lot so she doesn't dwell on any concepts, which makes her lectures seem a bit fast. The negative reviews she gets are from SoM people who are used to not learning anything and walking away with good grades. Her class was the only 311 course that I feel wasn't garbage and that actually taught something. And she IS fair, I feel.

She is simply a Machine, non stoppable fast talking. you have to take a lot of notes every class, 6 or 7 pages for one class, and never understand the material in class. Her exams are real hard because her because teaching skill is unacceptable and unbelievable fast. One of the worst prof. in SOM. Good luck to you all.

She talks VERY FAST. If you like professors to go nice and slow and make sure the class truly understands a concept before moving on (which, by the way, doesn't mean you're less intelligent than others, it's simply a matter of taste), then she's not for you. Pretty monotone in her lectures, but if you love finance, you'll probably think she's great

She is one of the best professor's in SOM. She knows her material very well. Even though she gives a lot of work, you will actually walk away learning a lot from this class. She is a fair grader and does the same amount of work as she expects from you. If you want an easy A, this class is not for you.

She teaches early classes and if you can keep up with fast lectures at 8:30 or 9:40 take her class. Tough class but reasonable, practice the problems in the book and drill her additional problems.

wow..her tests sure do cover a lot of material, especially based on the fact that she hardly explains any of it. you go to class at 940 am and she gives u a bunch of definitions and then tests are incredibly hard w/no curve. if i had known wat a complete waste of time this class was going to be i never would've taken it.

Class wasn't very hard, as i love doing maths stuff. but for someone who doesnt like doing all those calculations would hate the class. So i guess its safe to say good grade for all those who like doing calculations. A Wonderful Professor.

She is the best professor I ever had. She is crystal clear and know what to teach and how to teach. Her test is somewhat hard. In order to well on her test use Financial calculator instead of formulas and make sure put all the work you have done because if you method is proper and answear is wrong she gives big parcial credit.

One of the best teachers I have had. People says she goes too fast, but it was one of two classes that I never fell asleep in. The tests are harder then you are going to expect, but if you study then you should be fine. Go to class, she explains tough things well. Make sure to get the calculator.

Layish is an amazing professor! She works you very hard, but you learn so much in the end. Best Professor in SOM by far. Clear, concise, and very intelligent. Make an effort to get to know her, she can be very friendly and helpful.

Dina is a wonderful professor. She is very helpful and makes classes interesting. It is a tough class, but you can get through it if you work hard and come to lecture. She always grades with partial credit!

alot of work for an intro class, gotta do hw and practice problems, she talks very very fast because she drinks about 20 cups of coffee before class, she has a tendancy to make the class harder than it actually is.

Very difficult, Teaches the class as if it is still a 4 credit class which is ridiculous since it is only 3, and most people don't have time to finish her tests. Which include 10-12 multiple choice, and 2 long questions. You have to take the class if your SOM so suck it up, but it's a rough class and she doesn't help.

Professor Layish is without a doubt the best professor the school of management has to offer. She is a teacher first and foremost and is always there for her students. She constantly keeps her students on their toes and challenges them. ALthough people say that this class is difficult, I have learned more from this class than any other.

I'm a financial econ major some of my friends in SOM said this was their hardest class of the semester, it was my easiest. I missed about 35-40% of the lectures, had an 88 test avg and got an A-. The book helps and she goes over examples in class which really helps. Use HW Manager (it gives you the answers) and get the calculator. She is annoying

I took the SOM J-core this semester and this class was probably the hardest of the 4 but also the class that i got the best grade in. If you go to class and use all of the information that she puts on blackboard you will do well. Layish def gives hard test but always gives great stuff to study with. I love layish and she made me love finance too!

FIN 324 with Professor Layish is arguably one of the most difficult classes in the entire SOM. It is a huge amount of work, but Prof Layish is up front about it at the beginning. I've learned more about finance in this one class than my other years combined. ALL finance majors should take the course with her.

I was looking forward to this class not knowing who the professor was. I am a straight A student but ended up not liking her class at all. Only cares about mathematical geniuses in her class, and talks at a speed of light, which is not good for a Finance class. Unfortunately she is the only Prof for FIN311 in the school and the class is required.

I don't know why so many students complain about the material. I never read the textbook and only use it for the homework assignments. If you attend class, which really isn't too bad, and do the homework assignments instead of copying it from the answer sheet, the material is pretty much straight forward. IMO, doesn't speak too fast. Very fair grad

She's the fastest speaker ever; half the time I have no idea what she's saying. Hw is due every week and I used the textbook often. Her grading is really fair. Expect to spend a lot of time with this class if you've never done anything relating to finance before. It was the most time consuming of the 4 J-Cores, but hard work pays off in the end.

For those in the non-finance majors section, the class is really easy. Make sure to do well on the first test as the highest grade of 3 tests has the highest percentage. She does speak too fast during lectures, but could not really complain about the class. You don't need to attend lectures too often.

Her tests are really easy, but too few questions. if u miss one conception question, u r like lose 5 out of 100 points. however, time is not enough for some for those who never do hw.No curve on any fin test, not just hers. Textbooks used only for hw. dont need to attend class, no use. I dont think she really knows her stuff, only some basic thing.

Great teacher always willing to help. Workload for FSA is insane so I would caution from taking a full load of classes. Overall through best valuation course in Bing, the paper is the most work I think I've done in Binghamton.

If you're looking for a class that will challenge you then this is it. The concepts are challenging but interesting. However, I feel she can do a much better job teaching the material. I was only able to do well through extensive self practice. Group papers take up a good portion of your weeks. Nonetheless, very fair grader. Suggested with caution.

Prof. Layish is by far the best professor at Binghamton. She is fair in her grading and her expectations are listed from the beginning. Most people don't want to work hard but if you work hard her class is rewarding and she will go the distance to help you. Always there for her students no matter what. Best professor.

Her class requires an intense amount of work. The work itself is manageable, but her lectures are impossible. She speaks way too quickly and makes no effort to slow down. Her handwriting is illegible and I learned very little from her lectures. If you have the time to sit down and teach yourself, a good grade is possible.

(FSA) Layish loves her subject, I respect no other finance teacher in this entire school more than her. Very Approachable. I've never met anyone who loves their subject more and I aspire to enjoy my work as much as she does hers. Pay attention because she will teach you A LOT. Perfect for kids seriously interested in a career in finance.

Goes way too fast in class. TA's are helpful but the material is difficult. The HW is difficult. Read ahead of time or class will be useless to you. She is stuck in the past of academia. Computers do all of these calculations now. You should know what the numbers mean for a company not how to calculate them 400 ways. Tests are HARD

She recognizes that she talks to fast, and that her notes are below where they can be seen on the projector - but she won't change. She takes no responsibility or accountability for a class average of 65% on the final. The bottom line is grades = student effort + professors ability. Layish is missing the second part.

Excellent professor, genuinely enjoys teaching. Class may be a bit of a rude awakening if you've become accustomed to SOMs usual rigor (or lack there of) . Do every problem available to you the right way and you will have no problem in this class. Grading is more than fair.

Layish tries too hard to cram everything about finance into one semester. There is NO curve on tests and the HW is hard, but TAs are there to help. Go to the TAs before Layish, they're a lot more helpful and have a lot less attitude. I would say don't take her class, but she's the only one teaching fin311 for som... glad I'm done with her class

class is a challenge, but if you actually attend & pay attention, its fine. 4 tests, each test comes with a FULL practice test (actual test is slightly harder). class takes effort, but she follows her syllabus to the t and if you do hw & show up, you can get the A. def passionate about subject, made me interested in finance. def recommend her

Read the book. GO TO CLASS. DO THE HOMEWORK. If anything, do the homework..ON YOUR OWN. If you don't you'll probably be in for a rude awakening, unless you're a finance whiz, which you probably aren't.

Overall, I'd say Prof. Layish is a fair professor who certainly has high expectations. She teaches from start to finish (and then some) which is great, but I disagree with her making 311 a "weed-out" course since it's REQUIRED of everyone in SOM, regardless if you're financial engineering, accounting or marketing. Great prof. if you speak to her.

Class is challenging. However, she is a great teacher unlike a lot of teachers in SOM who don't teach anything. Make sure you read the book and do the homework. If you redo all the homework questions before the test, study the slides, and take the practice test then you can definitely do well in this class.

This course will consume your entire semester. You need to spend at least 10-12 hours a week working on the group project.She then grades these projects very stringently. The only positive side to this class was that the exams were straightforward. I would avoid this class.

The class is definitely one of the difficult but Prof. Layish makes up for it. If you are a hard-working student you'll be OK. I struggled with ACCT and FIN but the difference was the Prof. She is so helpful & energetic, knows her stuff, open and friendly. She is strict but you learn so much. She gives practice and review & wants you to do well!

Very elitist and condescending in my opinion....if you aren't a PwC scholar, you simply aren't worth her time. She does her job well in the classroom, but I found her to be difficult to approach for help when I needed it partially causing me to struggle and perform poorly in her class. In a nutshell, you HAVE to work on this class everyday to do OK

Her class is a bit challenging, but if you work hard, you'll do fine. It's just the way she conducts her class. Speaks too fast, spends half of her time reprimanding her students for little things instead of teaching the material. I ended up feeling more annoyed in class than I thought I would.

FINANCE is hard, but not to the point to be impossible. So far, this class is the most interesting class compared to other Jcore classes. Do hw and practices and read the book! Prof might talk fast, but you will get used to her way of teaching throughout the semester.

This class is pretty legit. Definitely the hardest class in SOM (which isn't saying much). If you want to do well you have to go to class, you have to read the textbook, and you have to put in a full fledged effort into every homework. Layish is very passionate about finance and if you go to office hours, she more than willing to help.

This class is honestly not that hard if you put in the effort. Professor Layish may speak fast but she is always up for questions (if needed). If you get to know her she is very nice. Practice problems that she gives and you will be fine for the exams. Rarely read the textbook.

This class was challenging. The professor was available during office hours but it felt like a rushed conversation. She speaks so fast it is hard to keep up with her during lectures. She is smart and knows her stuff. She expects you to know alot about finance before coming into the class. Tests were challenging for the time given to complete them.

Layish is a great professor. She is really interested in the subject and cares about what she is teaching. If you meet with her during office hours she will be more than willing to help. The class as a whole is kind of difficult, as long as you work hard and make an effort to learn everything you should be fine.

Professor Layish is very knowledgable in finance. If you have an interest in finance, this subject isn't that hard. Personally, i excelled in this course by applying what I learned to real world examples, and that makes everything so much easier to understand. Although she sometimes talk too fast, shes able to answer your questions most of the time

layish is a terrible professor. very intimidating and makes you feel rushed when asking questions. never clarifies anything when teaching. rather than showing u how to do a problem one way, she shows 5 different ways(barely explaining each) leaving you confused. Im not someone who doesn't do their work, i ended with an A- in her course, wasnt easy

I actually thought Layish was hilarious. Like when she apologized to us for a student coming to speak about a charity event - while he was still there. Pure gold. She really knows her stuff so GO TO CLASS. If you struggle with math in general, make good use of the TA's and office hours. I know that a lot of students did that and it helped them.

Layish may be knowledgable in finance, but she has absolutely no idea what she is doing when it comes to teaching. She's absolutely horrible; her notes make no sense, and she changes topics even when it's clear that most of the class does not understand. She is incapable of managing her class time, and often moves too quickly through topics.

she's a likeable person and a good teacher but her exams are absolutely ridiculous. expect a low grade on your exams unless you've memorized every single word and practice problem in the textbook. you'll study for each chapter for hours and get the question wrong on the test because of some little tweek you weren't warned about

worst teacher in SOM. i advise that you stay away from her if you don't want your GPA to suffer. she is not helpful at all, bribes you with her donuts before taking the SOOT Survey, and constantly looks out to trick you. the most terrible and unhelpful teacher.

Layish definitely knows Finance inside and out. She will explain anything (as long as it's not in the syllabus). However, she seems to go out of her way to make the course difficult for students. If you want to pass above a C, you'll need to: 1 Get to know a TA that will teach you what she doesn't in class 2 .Study for a full days before the exams

Prof. Layish is the BEST professor at Binghamton University. She is systematic, punctual, equitable, and does what it is necessary for students that put in the effort to succeed. Students who rely solely on test banks, do not fare so well in her course. (Most of the commentaries below!!!). However, Layish is great and makes finance enjoyable!

Many students dislike her because she is tough and writes her own tests. However, pay attention and class and you will definitely need to study minimally. I didn't get an A in the class but learned a great deal about finance. Just work hard and it will definitely pay off. Definitely take her. She even gives partial credit for multiple choice.

Professor Layish was probably one of the most difficult professors I've had in both undergrad and graduate school, but absolutely one of the best at her job. While the tests were difficult, she did a great job at explaining the material and forcing you to go home and really study. It took a lot of hard work and dedication but doing well is possible

It's a pretty hard course to be honest. But if you put in the work, a B+, A- is easy. Only 55% of class was based on 4 tests, the other was all hw. Go to her lectures, she's a great finance teacher, it'll help you understand it. Her tests are tricky, but she wants to see you do well. It's important to understand the concepts BEHIND the problems.

Layish makes extremely tough exams and gives daily homeworks and weekly quizzes. She is definitely very accessible and helpful if you email her to meet her in her office. Lectures a bit too quickly however her lectures and notes are very helpful and comprehensive.

Her class is difficult but her lecture notes are very useful. You have to spend days before an exam to study for everything and she always tries to come up with little twists in the actual exam to throw you off. If you try to negotiate your grade with her at the end of semester, do not email her cause she will ignore them just go to office hours.

Easily one of the hardest class you will take in SOM. Although it is tough to get in the 'A' range it totally possible if you put in A LOT of work and do well on every other aspect of the class besides the exams. Final is impossible so be prepared.

Hardest and most useful class. I have learned more in this class than in any class thus far. Yes, you have to study 5-7 days prior to an exam, but they aren't impossible. there are a lot of components to your grade in this class, which is what makes it hard. class is good, but not important for the tests. make sure you do the homework bc they will help u learn the material. don't rely on your friends and have them send u the answers the night before it is due. not actually doing the homework was my biggest regret

You better hope the class last semester did not do so well on the exams because if so, she'll make it harder to decrease the avg score. Going to class can be a hit or miss. Terrible professor. Very uncaring and makes the class way harder than it needs to be (this is an introductory finance course). Sad thing is she's the only professor you can take. Tough class but thats cuz of her not necessarily the material since its an intro class. Study her practice tests, do the h.w, and do the bonus extra credit and youll be solid. Barely read the text but her review sessions were helpful. She has gone easier compared to before so thats was a plus. Overall a great teacher and really knows Finance.

It is one of the only courses that actually made me use my brain to think rather than just straight memorizing things. Really terrible. Doesn't care about you or anyone. doesn't teach quantitative problems and expects everyone to get them right. If ur gonna take this class study everyday every quantitative question. Honestly if you can find a way to get the Fin311 credit without Layish you would be doing yourself a big favor. The JCore Case and her Ethics Essay are the worst grade tankers ever. The ethics essay is extremely word limited and the criteria for grading is unclear. She uses this as a way to nuke your grade and the class average.

I didn't like her teaching style at all. She gives you so much information way too fast and never really explains it thoroughly for students to truly understand. Doing the homeworks help in understanding the calculations portion but you'd really have to attend every class to get the conceptual material. Tests are very tricky.

She is a nice lady, but when it comes to teaching she lacks all the qualities of a strong teacher. Teachers should motivate students and challenge them to an extent. Anyone who expects averages of 60s, is doing something wrong as a teacher. Theres a difference between being difficult and abusing your power. The class is taught above a 300 level.

While taking her class in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic, she made the course even harder after the online transition to prevent cheating. Professor Layish is very knowledgeable but the class is too brutal for an intro level class and turns the rest of j-core into background noise. Homeworks are fine but exams are different beast, the reviews don't lie. The online final during the pandemic was a demon even with slides allowed. Material can also get overwheming quick. The worst professor I have ever had in my 20 years on this earth. The tests are on materials we never seen in our lives, and she doesn't curve the tests, despite the average literally being a failing grade. Lectures are super fast. She is cramming a semester's worth of material into a 2.5 month period and expects us to take an exam every 2 weeks.

Extremely unfair with her teaching. Teaches way too fast and attempts to cram the entire semesters worth of work in 2 and a half months. Class average for exams is a failing grade and she won't curve it or even recognize this is due to her teaching methods. Exams contain material that was not on practice exams. It is super frustrating when you think you have the day to complete the quiz based on the due date but realize that it already expired at 2 in the morning. Test grades usually have a failing average. FIN 311 is unreasonably the hardest course I have taken to date. I honestly enjoy the type of content, but it is presented in such an unorganized manner. Prof. Layish goes out of her way to make the class way harder than it needs to be and throws curveballs on tests. She has rushed the class this semester, making pandemic learning even harder.

By far the worst professor in the School of Management. It's my understanding that this is the third semester in a row in which multiple classes complained to the Dean about her and the sick antics she puts on and nothing was done (due to tenure). This person shouldn't be allowed to be within 1000 feet of a classroom.

I have never heard of a professor who makes it impossible for students to be in the right mindset for the course skip teaching because SHE wasn't in the right mindset. How do you think her students feel after she made the course significantly harder during a virtual learning semester and constantly talked about the difficulties she was having?

Professor Lavish's class is challenging, but if you keep up with the work and put some effort into the class, you will get a lot out of it. As long as you are respectful, she is willing to go above and beyond to help you with the material.

Id say she is the best professor I have ever had. It is a hard class (tests are challenging). People complain she is unfair but thats not true. She gives extra credit, is always available for questions, and actually cares that her students learn something. If you actually pay attention in class and take the time to study, youll be fine.

What to say about Layish? if I had to jump into a tank of hungry sharks or retake this class with Layish, I would choose the sharks. At least that way I know I have a fair chance. Layish the worst professor in SOM and arguably Bing. If youre considering taking her class, DONT. If youre taking her class, say goodbye to your GPA. Save yourself.

She literally told us she would give us partial credit on a test and then AFTER we got our grades back she said she wouldnt be giving us partial credit. She rushed the class and finished before thanksgiving despite having two weeks left to teach because she wasnt in the right headspace to teach. Youre a teacher. Youre supposed to teach.

Essentially rushed the entire course by having the final before Thanksgiving just because she did not want to teach anymore while keeping the amount of content the same as previous semesters. Stated countless times throughout the semester that she was not in the right mind to teach. Takes pride in watching the students struggle and does not care

She takes over 3 weeks to get graded assignments back to you so you never know where you stand in the class, states that she is not in the right mindset to teach to downplay how unprepared she is to teach. She taught the same amount of material but cut the semester short by 3 weeks just because she wanted to. She was rude and unhelpful.

She is BY FAR THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. Purposely makes the class harder than it has to be and enjoys seeing her students struggling. She decided to reduce class time by 2 weeks just because she did not want to teach anymore (THATS LITERALLY HER JOB) while keeping the amount of content the same.

Professor has stated that she is not in the right mental capacity to teach which already puts her students at a disadvantage. The professor shows that she is knowledgeable and has a passion for the topic but she does not care about her students at all. She cut class time by 2 weeks and tells her students to watch lectures from theprevious semester

She does not care for her students, the grading is unfair because the teacher grades especially harder than TA so if you end up having her grade your score is tremendously lower. She expects you know to what she wants and minuses points because you didnt meet her expectations. Most of the time panopto videos were black or muted for remote learners

Professor Layish is focused on one thing, making sure student learn in here class. In order to get a decent grade in the class you have to stay up to date on lecture and complete the practice tests. She is rude but efficient. Besides tanking my gpa this class was great

Prof. Layish is one of the best professors at Binghamton. She wants to ensure that every student learns as much as possible from her class. The class is challenging but she gives students tons of resources to help them succeed. All the students who complain either never go to lecture or discussion, or don't make use of the resources she provides.

Whoever said that students only complain because they never show up to lectures or discussions is just wrong. I showed up to every single lecture and discussion and still have a failing grade because of the all the rushed material we had to learn to finish by Thanksgiving. I also emailed the professor multiple times to which she never answered.

If you did very well on the first 3 exams, she lets you skip the final and still get an A, which I did, so I liked her for that. Layish teaches fast, but she is passionate and always open to questions. Unpopular opinion, but I dont think she's mean, just straightforward and wants you to work hard. FIN 311 was a valuable learning experience for me.

gives you an ethics essay to tank your grade. whatever, wanna give me hard tests sure. Dont give me 2 essays in a finance class and claim Im a 70 student based on that. Her class is mandatory for SOM, but easily one of the hardest classes to take. She grades hard and makes class much more difficult than needed, especially with covid going on. Definitely the most work I've ever put in, only to receive a B-. Good luck

Warranted infamous reputation. She has high expectations and difficult exams justified by her "goal" to help students to grow. Nothing wrong with that, but giving students projects with unclear guildlines and heavily penalizing them with failing grades when they clearly put in a big effort and met most stated requirements helps no one.

Prof. Layish really enjoys finance and shows that in her passionate lectures. She made me, someone who was reluctant to take the course, more interested in finance by the end of the semester. Her class is tough, but it makes it all the more worth in when your hard work pays off in good grades. She deserves so much more credit than she's given.

Said, herself that she takes pride in giving poor grades to students and that the class average is a high 60 to mid 70. Bases the grade heavily on exams that students are poorly prepared for. Has 4 exams per course. If you have any other option, I strongly suggest taking it over this class or professor.

She is an extremely tough grader but acts like she is being fair to her students. She acts like having half of her class fail is something worth bragging about. Justifies it by saying "if I just gave out 100s you guys wouldn't actually be learning anything". Unfortunately SOM kids have to take this class for J-core. Good luck lol

Not as bad as everyone says. You know going in this is not gonna be a cakewalk. Make sure to follow along with her lectures and take notes. She knows what shes talking about but shes not very good at presenting it. She has a very short attention span and talks very fast. Overall was not the most fun, but I feel like I learned a lot.

She gets a lot more heat than she really deserves. If you pay attention, take proper notes, and actually study you should be fine. You go in knowing Fin311 is a hard class. If you actually put in genuine effort you will succeed. Everyone that complains is just very used to grade inflation and easy A's.

Professor Layish is not as bad as all these reviews say. She may be a little off her rocker and may give ridiculous assignments/grades but I got the easiest A of my life in FIN 311 last year. Taking her again this year for fin 322 she really isn't that bad.

I really liked Professor Layish because she's actually a good teacher and explained everything for any assignment she gave out. She also gave out 3 practice exams for every test which were so similar to the real test, she's a hard grader but she helps you a lot, you just need to try hard and study. You can tell she cares and is knowledgeable.

She barely goes over the content, wastes class time, and makes you do ridiculous assignments. Not really hard to do okay grade-wise but you just get nothing out of her class. Made us do a research paper for no reason. Stock pick project was busywork. All of us are missing fundamental finance knowledge b/c she cant teach. Guest lectures were on test

Professor Layish teaches Finance 322 better than Finance 320. The exams are weighted in a way where you can do average on them and still do well in the class. One downside to the professor is that she is not clear in her instructions. One tip to do well is to participate a lot and do really well on the homework. This class is had but not impossible

This was her first semester teaching ACCT 211, and she didn't do a bad job. She has some pretty notable flaws, such as making tests too long and giving way too many classwork sheets, but she is at least aware of them and tries to fix them. She was nice to the class overall and very open to feedback. Not a bad person, just a little disorganized

Prof. Layish is kind, responds to emails, and will meet outside of class. However, this was a hybrid class and only met once a week; Prof. Layish had never taught CQS112 so she would make errors in class and on tests. The material is not impossible but the way Prof. Layish teaches is difficult to understand and caused my GPA to go down.
