Took him for my stat class, funny little Indian man with a heart of gold. Accent makes some lecture hard to understand, and he really does expect you to learn the material. Semi-easy class if you keep up, tests 9-11 questions so dont miss more than 2-3
sweet little man, but really hard to understand. He's willing to help you at anytime though.
extremely helpful...difficult to understand, though
Language barrier is not helpful. Not an effective teacher. But class is easy, so just ignore him.
hard to understand. very nice but at the same time it feels like he wouldnt give me a break at all, hed probably just smile. gives quizzes every class on the stuff learned before. homework every night.
Can be hard to understand at first. Typical happy/dorky math professor- you can tell he loves his subject. Quizzes every day, but he doesn't check homework.
He gives a quiz every day. Ask questions and he'll help you, but if you just sit there you will get lost. He's a good teacher if you pay attention and try to get past his accent.
What can I say? It's Math 103 -- very self explanatory. Just show up to take his daily quizzes and don't leave early, and you'll do reasonably well. The man is extremely funny and warm, and has a funny accent that grows on you :)
class is fun. the accent isnt bad once you get used to it. funny guy
good man, really cares about student. also very very smart
This is one of the first math classes I have done well in. He explains things well and wants everyone to do well in his class. The quizes may seem annoying , but really they're very helpful b/c it makes you remember what you learned the class before. Good
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Horrible teaching style and hardest to understand.
such a nice guy, but very difficult to understand. you get the sense that he really wants his students to do well though. quizzes every class so you have to go, but he's always willing to help.
All I have to say regarding this professor is, "WHAT DID HE JUST SAY?" So hard to understand. He laughs at his jokes and no one knows what's funny b/c we can't understand.
He's a nice, compassionate guy, but his 207 class is tougher than it should be. If you're a math major or like math research, this is the guy to take. Everyone else, steer clear.
It's like being taught math by Ghandi, well he looks more like Peter King than Ghandi. So yeah, kinda fun.
First time teaching Stats. Prof, had difficulties with the book. However, he is a very nice guy who wants his students to to well.
Sarvate is extremely dedicated to his teaching and always is careful to make sure his students are following along and understand. He is a wonderful, funny, kind man who is also very organized. His daily quizzes may seem boring, but they're truly helpful. The best math teacher I've ever had.
Dinesh is a great guy. hes a good teacher that cares if his students learn the material and he's hallarious. the only bad thing about him is his accent. He is so hard to understand that it become hard to learn things because u are trying to figure out what he said 5 mins ago.
bless his heart, the man is absolutely adorable. learn to adapt to the accent. hilarious. he moves very quickly through material. you HAVE to study each day to keep up. daily quizzes. 2 or 3 tests, so must do well on them. only take if you have the time to do the daily studying, & can keep up
dinesh is awesome; he really cares about his students, he'll do anything to make sure you understand. he's very patient and willing to go over something as many times as it takes. always be there for the daily quizzes or you wont be able to make them up, but he's very good about giving extra points.
I love this class. What a great professor. He is the cutest little guy. Some people cannot understand his accent, but it is not bad, and everything is written on his handouts or in the book. Easy class but you have to think of course.
can't understand a word he says and the tests are ridiculous. Puts things on the exam that he sai wouldn't be on there, but expects us to not say anything about it. I HATED THIS CLASS!
He's fun as hell, but he's always sick on test days. There was this weird kid that sat on the desk at the front of the room and stared while we took them...
He's great - in spite of his accent he's the only math teacher I ever had who actually makes sense. And I hate math. If you actually do the homework, even though he doesn't check it, then you will be prepared for his daily quizzes. Plus, if there's one you couldn't do, then you can ask him about it and he'll take time to go over it before the quiz. So he definitely wants to help you to do as well as you possibly can. He's AWESOME.
He is a cute little man...but he is very difficult to understand, unless you can easily grasp the indian accent...i have had to teach myself throughout the whole class...but he does make the class pretty interesting!! weird, but interesting
Very hard to understand. Be prepared to teach yourself. His lecture and his typed notes dont make much sense.
great teacher a lot of fun and very understanding...gets upset with slacker students, but very helpful..quiz everyday and makes his own exam
If you can understand the accent, he's the best. If you can't don't take him. Will sit and explain something you don't understand for 20 min. after class if you need him to.

really really hard, especially if you are an incoming freshman. book is very difficult to understand and his notes make sense in the classroom but not at home when you try to do the homework or study. i would recommend not taking him if you can.
Cant understand a word he says.
Difficult to stay awake in class and the text book is awful, nice man. He tells you the tests are on 3 chapters then he tests you on one thing for the whole test and nothing else
Not terribly difficult, but be sure to do the homework and read the book. He really isn't that hard to understand. If you can't understand him because of his accent, then you're probably stupid.
He is the sweetest man ever, but truly the worst prof. i've ever had at CofC and i'm a senior. he wants you to do well, but does NOT know how to clearly communicate material. i met w/him a/b once a week and still had to beg him not fail me. i tried really hard, but our class average was in the 50's. avoid taking him at all costs.
Dinesh is a great guy who wants all of his students to do well, but he's a little narrow-minded in his teaching methods in that his brain can't comprehend the fact that everyone learns differently. I have ADHD, and the only way I can learn is by teaching myself material, and he goes way too fast and keeping up for me is nearly impossible.
This class is very easy. If you even pay attention in class you will be able to understand what he says. He gives very clear notes and is an overall very easy professor. Attendance is mandatory because there are quizzes every day that are on the last classes material. Pay attention and you'll do well. HIGHLY Recommend
Endearing little Indian man, class is boring but if you keep up with h/w it won't be difficult. helps out a little with grades. very difficult to understand his accent at first but once you get used to it, you'll love it.
nice guy, loves teaching. thats all i have good to say. he's been teaching so long and understands what he's doing so well that he skips over important step for a student, thinking it common since. cant understand him and he doesnt explain much, u need to teach urself. AVOID THIS CLASS! i would rather get hit n the head with the text then go 2 clas
very nice teacher and has a sense of humor. pay attention, and do the online hw assignments. ask questions. i didn't like the class just because of the subject.
Really nice cute indian man but WORST CLASS EVER! he says the material is common sense but unless you think about math every day all day you won't! his tests are only like 6 questions so if you get one wrong your grade drops. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
test are nothing like lectures
he's super adorable, and generally very nice. but his tests are NOTHING like what you do in class. its ridiculous. he'll say that the tests have 9 question, but don't be fooled - each question will have 10 parts. he thinks that the concepts he teaches are common sense. my suggestion is to do the online work, it has been my saving grace.
Extremely nice guy.He does have an accent but you get used to it and he is aware of it.He will do everything in his power to explain it to ensure that you understand no matter how long it takes.Truly cares whether you succeed. The class is difficult but he does a great job and is hilarious.I would def recommend taking him,esp if you struggle w/ math
If you've taken a stat class before in high school or whatever then you should be okay with sarvate but I don't know if I would have done as well as I did if I was completely new to stats. It's not so much his accent but more the way he explains topics that's the problem. If he has > 1 section then you can come to which ever one you like just ask.
If you are bad at math, heed my warning: DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. This was the worst class I've ever taken here. He doesn't explain topics really well, and as for his tests while he says there might be 10 questions each question has at least 5 parts to them.
Computer majors who have to take this class, avoid taking it with him. makes the class harder than it should be. its already hard and im good at math. leaves out important information and doesnt tell exactly what you need to know. a lot of the time he goes off on these off the wall explanations and topics and leaves you wondering WTH?
A sweet man but not a great teacher. He's got a very thick accent, but interesting to listen to. Discusses things in class once or twice then puts them on the exam. Take him only if you're very good at Math.
He is an extremely intelligent man, but not a good teacher. He skips explanations of concepts that he finds too simple, but are hard to students. He doesn't follow the books and I never knew what section we were covering, or what sections to prepare for the next class. His tests are hard but he always tells you what to expect.
useless professor. if he worked on his conversational english, perhaps you could understand him. but he does not care he is teaching American students, nor does he care if you understand his teaching. he has to curve every test in order to get people to pass. that's bad teaching on his part, not laziness on his students' part.
Don't take Dr.S unless you're mathematically inclined or prepared to teach yourself, which is the ONLY way I've been managing to pass. Weekly quizzes/exams are difficult and he doesn't have the patience to answer your questions very well if at all. This has NOTHING to do with his accent. His expectations are simply much too high for a 103 class.
DONT take him. I like math but this class was so unnecessarily hard. There are quizzes every friday on things you don't even learn and he is absolutely no help outside of class. I tried really hard to understand him but his accent was so thick, in the end i had to drop this class.
This class is hard if you don't study every night. There are questions on the test that you are going to be like "where did I learn this?" He will gladly help you as much as you can, and he doesn't mind repeating himself because he has a heavy accent. He will make you laugh a lot but the class is alright.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. Unless you're naturally gifted at math, you will struggle in this class. Heavy accent, all over the place in his notes. The online homework takes too long to do. If you like math, go for it but if you don't you're making a mistake by taking him. Trust.
A very good teache. He does have an accent but you get used to it. He will do everything in his power to explain it to ensure that you understand no matter how long it takes.Truly cares. The class is difficult but he does a great job and is very funny. I would definitely recommend taking him.
He is a very good teacher. He does have an accent but you get used to it. He will do everything in his power to explain it to ensure that you understand. He really cares if you do well. The class is challenging but he does a great job. He also has a great sense of humor. I would definitely recommend taking him. I would take him again.
Great Professor. He is very helpful and really wants his students to learn. And, he will repeat a topic in different ways until he finds a way that helps a confused student understand (believe me, I had to ask questions many times) I would recommend students take him if they are ready to learn and put in required effort...these are college courses.
Good teacher, extremely helpful. He is always willing to provide assistance and feedback. Great sense of humor.
I love Prof. Sarvate. He is super nice, very funny, and I think he's a good teacher. He goes off on tangents sometimes, but usually brings them back around to be relevant. Very fair grader. No homework handed in, but expects you to do the problems in the book. Hard class in general, but he helps you out. Look forward to taking again next semester
Dr. Sarvate has mixed reviews for the wrong reasons. He is very good at keeping the class on track. The subject itself is difficult; however, he clearly understands the material at a masterful level, and can explain the concepts in full detail. You must do the work in order to understand math in general - Sarvate is a guide, and a damn good one.
He deserves a medal. Or an award. Yes, the material is hard, but he always answers questions with full clarity no matter what they are. Highly recommended. And from what I've heard, he is far better than the other professors that teach the same classes.
AWESOME SAUCE!
Nice guy but not a good teacher. Doesn't explain material very well so I basically had to teach myself the material. He tries to help but the material is really difficult so if you are not good at math you WILL struggle. Don't take this class unless you have too.
Professor Sarvate is such a nice man and he really cares and wants his students to succeed. Personally, his teaching style is a little confusing, and I've honestly had more luck teaching myself through the online homework. Definitely go to class because he often gives extra credit to students who attend on days that there aren't many other people.
Sarvate is very nice and energetic, he shows he wants to see his students succeed. However, his teaching style is unorganized and his lectures are difficult to understand. You end up teaching yourself the material off of the online homework assignments. Tests are confusing and different from examples shown in class and problems from the homework.
He is one of the nicest professors and really takes a care for his students but anything nice to say about him really stops there. He gives a ton of online homework every night after class there is an assignment due online. He is unorganized and speaks with an accent making him impossible to understand. If you are not strong in math do not waste $
Passionate and very motivated to get students to learn the material. Took the Maymester course and really enjoyed my experience. He is all for his students succeeding and is willing to help whenever needed. When e-mailed, his responses were quick, meaningful and helpful. Don't skip (wasting YOUR money) and expect to get far. Do your part too!!
He seems very invested in this course but he is very unorganized and random. He has an Indian accent which makes the class especially more difficult. He gets all of his power points directly from the book. In the end you'll and up teaching the course to yourself.
Sarvate is really caring professor and he wants everyone to do well in his class. That being said the material in the class is pretty difficult but as long as you do the homework on time you'll get a good grade. Attendence is mandatory but if you come to every lecture he gives you 1 extra credit point on your final grade.
He's a very sweet and caring person, but he gets very very emotionally involved in your work. I feel guilty whenever I go to class or turn in an exam that I didn't perform well on. Also, the exams are WAY harder than the assigned problems and lecture material.
All the homework and 2 tests online, but site sucks. He was a nice guy, but was hard to understand because of his accent. I dont know if it was because I couldnt understand him or because he couldnt teach too well, but my grade suffered because I had to teach everything to myself outside of class. I have always made A's in math, guess not anymore!
This man possesses a brilliant mind. He communicates complex and abstract ideas with simplicity and lucidity, and illustrates the beauty in the material. This course and Dr. Sarvate legitimately changed the way I approach life for the better. If you don't get what you need out of this class and this prof, the fault is yours.
Dr. Sarvate truly cares about students, is always willing to help & is such a sweet man. He really wants you to succeed & is passionate about what he does. There is a lot of online homework- be sure to do it. The tests they are part online and part in class. Make sure to pay attention to the online work because its easy to make simple mistakes.
Class is basically an online class and should be. Teacher confuses more than he helps in class and online portal isnt very helpful. Homework and tests do not follow what were doing in class.
Savarte is a great man but usually the homework does not match up with what we are learning in class. Lots of homework and hard tests. He has a thick accent which makes it hard to follow when he is moving fast. He is available outside of class for extra help but sometimes it still doesn't help.
Dinesh seems like a sweet guy, but he doesn't make it clear what we are learning. He does not label the drawings on the board, and he doesn't work problems the entire way through. He will start a problem and solve only a part of it and not even tell you what kind of problem it is. You have to do the homework and teach yourself. I'm withdrawing.
Worst teacher I've ever had. He is very hard to understand and does not care about the class. When meeting with him for extra help, he is very harsh and does not care whether or not you understand the material. He is very smart but cannot teach the material to the class.
If you're able to take this class online DO IT! Prof. Sarvate is caring, but definitely NOT EFFECTIVE. Basically self-taught myself through the chapters and I suck at math, so that's saying a lot. Showed up only for attendance, dreaded his class.
Sarvate is a kind, erudite, and caring man, but he's not a good intro math teacher. Has a tendency to not explain problems fully and his lectures are dull. The course could pretty much be done online and the class added nothing to the experience. I wouldn't recommend him to any student who isn't a math genius and was the only time I failed a class.
I learned everything from the textbook, I couldnt really understand him. He straight up had to get a student to call out the names on test papers because he couldnt pronounce half the names. I suppose he cant really help that. Hes kinda caring so theres that.
Prof Dinesh has passion for maths but he's not the best in explaining in class. Sometimes he does a great job working through the problems but when he has to rush - prepared to get lost in the material. His tests usually cover class material so you'll be fine if you understand the concept.
Professor was supportive and always available for office hours.
You can't understand what he says or read what he writes. He goes on tangents a lot, and I'm left with no clue about what's going on every day after class. I'd avoid this professor if at all possible.
Had professor Sarvate for both Math 207 and Math 307. It was very obvious that he cared about students' success and was always very accessible in terms of office hours. His lectures make the content understandable and interesting unlike other professors who just read straight out of the book.
He goes through the material extremely quickly and it's near impossible to read his handwriting. He also doesn't know how to use the college's online communications and grading system, and won't tell you your grade if you ask for it. He's not a bad person, but he's not a good teacher for a beginner level math course.
Not that he can help his accent, but can't recommend taking his online class, nearly impossible to follow if you have any sort of disability. Gave up trying to learn from lectures and just started self teaching with the online program. Attended online class but didn't bother listening in.
Professor Sarvate is a nice guy, but a not so good teacher. He is hard to understand and is bad with technology. If it weren't for chegg and the hawkes website where homework and tests are given, I would have failed. Attendance is not mandatory and honestly, you don't get anything from the classes anyways. He's sweet, but not a good teacher.
This has been the worst prof I have had at CofC. He doesn't understand zoom so I couldn't attend class because he wouldn't let me in, his HW is ridiculous, & he doesn't teach properly (u can't even see what he is writing on zoom) I am an A student & nearly failed this class. If there wasn't a PS option this semester, I would've lost my scholarship.
Okay, so he was quite possibly the worst math teacher I've ever had, and that's saying a lot. He could not work Zoom at all, and everything came directly from Hawkes. All tests and homework assignments were on Hawkes, so there was no chance at a curve or getting a test grade fixed.
. All of the other comments are spot on, he is a really caring teacher, but you learn everything from Hawkes learning. It is explained much more concise and understandable through Hawkes learning. Take your own notes, and practice and you will do fine. During the lectures he is hard to understand and often goes on tangents and is hard to understand
Great guy but not great professor! The other comments are correct: his accent is extremely hard to understand. He does not know how to work zoom and you can never see his paper. Be prepared to teach yourself ALL of the material and do lots of homework and tests on HAWKS.
I thought this teacher was very encouraging and my whole class loved him. I did have to study on my own but that's college. He encouraged students to ask questions and was approachable. He would check on me after class if he noticed I wasn't trying and it meant a lot.
This was the most understanding teacher I've had. You do have to do a lot of work on your own since it is hard to understand him at times but he truly cares about his students.
Caring but I spent my whole semester teaching myself and having to get tutoring. Hard to understand and follow, doesn't understand how to use zoom which was challenging for an online class. If you're good at math then this class is for you but if you struggle with math I don't recommend it. The tests also would have questions we never went over.
MATH 116 NOT MATH 104. He is such a caring person and wants you to succeed. His accent is thick and he does have a tough time with technology. He responds to emails quickly and gives out extra credit a lot! Sometimes goes on tangent but he is sweet and does his best! The material is tough if you're bad at math so go to tutoring!
