He is somtimes hard to understand but not a bad professor at all. Gives too many quizzes though, but they are exactly like the "suggested" homework problems. Tests are easy if you understand the concepts. Statistics is an easy course if you put out some kind of effor.
Sharma is sometimes hard to understand but overall he's a nice guy. The class is a little dull but he can't help it that statistics is a dry subject. He is very thorough in his powerpoints and will explain concepts to you if you just ask. Quizzes are kind of hard but if you put in some effort, you'll do well.

He posts them on Blackboard and encourages you to print them. Quizzes are sometimes difficult but if you study and ask for clarification on concepts, you'll do well. He really loves the subject.
DINESH! I mean the guy is really nice, sometimes hard to understand because of the accent, but an overall good professor. Hes really helpful if you ask him questions. Gives too many group projects and quizzes though for my taste, but the class is easy if you put in a modicum of effort. The people who get bad grades in the class obviously don't try.
Sharma is a great guy. He really wants you to learn Stats and it shows. If you have questions on tests, quizzes, or even the final exam, he will help you out greatly. The class was not that hard. If you can get past his accent, you be ok. The only part I didnt like about the class was the group projects using SPSS but that's it. Absolutely take him
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS..class is pointless.He grades unfairly and he doesn't know how to teach.He understands statistics well but when you go to him for help he can't explain anything.Way too many quizzes, group assignments just bring your grade down, and you have to teach yourself the lecture after every class because he cannot speak english
This was by far my most difficult class of the semester. Dr. Sharma is a nice guy, and he seems to know what he's talking about, but he is an awful teacher. There were way too many quizzes, and the group projects he assigns are a complete waste of time. He is NOT a good professor for someone who's never taken statistics before.
Horrible! Does not speak english very well. Tests are hard statistics is such a boring subject anyway and he just makes it worse wait to take 318 over the summer
Avoid at all costs. Accent makes lectures impossible to understand and he makes mistakes literally 4 or 5 times a class and you constantly have to correct him or else risk learning something completely wrong. Tests are very hard and he grades even harder. Gives an incredible amt. of homework (which he grades for correctness). Worst class I've taken
Don't take this class! Maybe I would have done better in this class if he spoke English. Extremely strong accent and makes many grammatical mistakes while speaking. Harsh grader and terrible explainer.

I would rather drop out of college than take him again. Besides his accent, he doesn't explain things well anyway so it doesn't matter what language he's speaking. Even at the help center they were confused about why he phrased things certain ways, he is a terrible teacher and very hard grader. Whatever you do, don't waste your time in this class!!
Honestly he is, without a doubt, the most difficult professor I've had so far at JMU. I don't understand why the university would hire someone who clearly does not exhibit proficient understanding of the English language. He's a very, very harsh grader and is not helpful at all during office hours. AVOID at all costs before you GPA tanks!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Extremely hard to understand, class feels like an eternity. He will write wrong answers on the board if someone answers wrong and not tell you. He changes the slides so that the ones on blackboard and the one's he uses aren't the same. The worst class I have EVER taken!
First off, stats is a hard class period if you are not good with math. Sharma does not make it any easier. You can't understand what he says, and when you ask a question he gets all flustered and can't answer it. If you go to class, which i suggest, you should do okay. But the tests are hard,and worth way to many points.
Sharma is not that hard if you just go to class and listen to what he says. I dont know why every gives him terrible ratings, you get used to his terrible accent and if you can stay awake, you should survive. i dont really mind him or the class and would probably take it again

Unless you took stat in high school I would not recommend him. I took stat in high school with a really good professor and I still get lost in his lectures sometimes. The book for this class absolutely sucks! Horrible examples and questions that take five minutes to read.
Hard to understand at first but you will get used to it as time goes on. It's an easy enough class if you try.

Geez. This class was ridiculous. Do not even think about taking this class unless you took stats in high school. He doesn't speak correct English, and his quizzes are worded so poorly that they trick you. I do not recommend this class to anyone at all, really.
The class is not hard if you took stat in high school, but he is very unclear! just be ready to pay attention and you'll be fine!
He is very difficult to understand with his accent and he seems to purposefully misunderstand questions that students ask so that he doesn't have to answer them. It is very hard to learn anything in this class and retain any information when taking quizzes and tests. Do not take this professor.
Dr. Sharma isn't the worst stats professor out there, but he's definitely not the best. His accent is pretty thick so it can be hard to understand him sometimes and there are a lot of grades - a quiz almost every week. His grading system is annoying and he doesn't explain things that well. Not too hard of a class but avoid taking him if you can
I would HIGHLY recommend NOT taking him. You can barely understand him, he uses poor examples, and doesn't even go through them all the way. His tests literally make no sense. I showed my past tests to other professors and even they thought they didn't make sense. Go to the tutoring center if you need help - asking him for help only makes it worse.
this guy shouldn't be teaching this class. Stats requires example problems to understand material not proofs that no one understands (including the professor). although the man is very bright, he may to too bright to get his point across. Overall if you know stats WELL take him and its an easy B
When it comes to Sharma its all about if you care and pay attention to the material. I did and i barely needed my textbook. Its easy if you take the time to understand. You either do really well in his class or you don't there is no in between. but hes a nice guy
Sharma is not as bad as people make him sound. He teaches the material at the right speed. He uses powerpoints, but going to class is more helpful because that's when he does examples. Homework is hard, use google to help you out. His tests are like the homework and he lets you use one note card for each test. He really is not that bad overall.
Sharma is the man. I took AP in high school and didn't do anything for this class. Easiest A ever received. If you have previous stat knowledge, TAKE HIM. if not, take someone else.
I didn't take stats in hs, and I find the class very do-able. If you don't do well, it's not his fault; stats is hard to learn, the class itself requires effort- you will get out of it what you put into it. He offers "recommended homework problems"- if you do these, using the book or him for help, and understand it, YOU WILL ACE THE TESTS/QUIZES.
Sharma is a good professor. His lectures are clear and he does plenty of examples in class that are similar to the homework. If you don't do well in this class, it's because you didn't put in the effort. If you do put in the effort, you learn alot from his lectures. I'd recommend him if you're looking to learn instead of just getting an A.
If you've taken AP Stats in high school, you'll definitely be able to pass this class. He's really easy for me, but hasn't been that easy for new stats students. He is kinda hard to understand but he's pretty nice and tries to be funny... Which is funny in itself. Very little homework, which is nice, and his quizzes and tests are relatively easy.
I absolutely despise going to this class. It is basically impossible to pay attention. The way that he schedules his class is horrible, you have homework due on test day with a quiz the week before that doesn't get handed back until after the test so you don't ever know what you are doing wrong
Sharma obviously knows what he his talking about but cannot teach for the life of him. All his does is bring up powerpoints with information that can easily be found in the textbook. Pre quizzes and quizzes before every class. His class is very confusing. You ask him a question and he gives you a very vague response. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Nice guy, but disorganized class. He gives detailed lectures on powerpoints but he is very bad with keeping on schedule making us get behind then rush through the next chapter. He also has a very thick accent making him sometimes hard to understand. Definitely knowledgeable on the subject, but the class could use a bit more structure.
Actually the worst professor I've had at JMU. I'm an A/B student and nothing he said made any sense.. you can understand him. He doesn't explain things at all and basically does not care if you fail. I had never taken stats before so maybe if you have you'll get it more but horrible class DO NOT TAKE!!
So far, easily the worst professor I've had. He clearly knows what he's talking about, but the problem is that he expects you to get it right away too. He doesn't explain the material any differently from the text (which is vague), and his powerpoints are word for word from the text. Nothing changes outisde of class, either.
Sharma's thick accent made understanding lectures beyond difficult. SPSS project assignments were unnecessarily long and were very unclear. Even though it's a STATS class, he wouldn't teach us how to solve problems using our calculators. We had to do everything by hand which made it extremely difficult to finish exams on time. Avoid if you can.
He's a nice guy and really means well, but he is very confusing and hard to understand. If you've taken stats before you'll do fine. If not, I would take someone else.
I started the semester wondering why Dr. Sharma had such horrible reviews, but now I understand why. He is very vague with the data analysis assignments which are a huge portion of your overall grade then grades them very harshly. Also, if you ask him a question about a problem, his explanations never make sense, so just have him solve it for you.
The issue with Dr. Sharma is that he doesn't know how to dumb the info down if you don't understand, which was a major problem for me. You do need the textbook for homework and he does attendance randomly but it's not mandatory.
Tests are directly from the worksheets from the in class activity.. or at least very similar. Not sure why people don't like him. often time students don't try but expect a good grade. It's college. Even though he may be hard to understand, his lectures are directly from the book so don't complain since he doesn't teach what isn't in the book.
When I saw these comments I was terrified to take the class, especially since math isn't my strong suit, but it was really OK. Take advantage of all the resources you have - textbook, group-mates, office hours, math help center, etc. and keep steady with the course load - and you'll be fine!!
I don't understand why Sharma is getting bad reviews. Honestly if you do the homework, study for the tests, and show up you won't get a bad grade. The workload isn't crazy, and he does a good job of explaining the concepts
Sharma is the most confusing professor ever. If you have not taken any kind of Stats in high school, DO NOT take him. He always messes up on the board and there are so many group projects!! I think I taught myself more than he actually taught me!
SAS is tough, i mean really tough. especially if you dont have any coding background. sometimes the code doesnt run even when youve coped and pasted it from his ppt. His accent is tough to understand. PPT slides are incomplete, some help others dont. 3 group projects, 7 hws, one final. you could use class examples and ppt for HW/GP but not final
I'm a stat major and math 318 was really difficult for me when it shouldn't be. He is hard to understand from what he says and his handwriting. He doesn't give nearly enough examples and when he does he makes tons of mistakes and doesn't know the answers. Try to stay away if possible.
Strong accent and his english is not perfect, but he isn't awful. If you took IB or AP stats, this class should be an easy A. But beware the tricks of his midterms! Hard to get over a 90%
3 exams, homework assignments, some group projects. I've never taken a stats class before, but I got a 100 on the midterm. He posts study guides online for the tests. Had a bad experience with a group project however. We asked for clarification and he told us one thing, but when he graded it he did so based on the exact opposite of what he said.
His lectures weren't helpful for understanding the material especially w/ his accent. He gives you a group for group work & mine became a good study group. ConnectMath homework & SPSS is annoying and long but makes you reteach yourself what he didnt in class. Midterms are rough but if your final is better than one of the midterms it can replace it
Although Dr. Sharma wasn't my top choice, he was a decent professor. The class consists of 3 exams, ConnectMath, in-class exercises, and SPSS assignments done in lab and then with your group. The class is fairly simple if you show up and follow along. Dr. Sharma is understanding and willing to help. He's also pretty generous with exam curves!
Dr. Sharma is a very sweet man however he is not the greatest professor. Most of your learning will most likely take place outside of the classroom with your textbook. You do a lot of group work in his class which is nice but you are with the same group for the whole semester so choose wisely. He gives decent review problems before tests.
Dinesh Sharma was just an ok professor. He was really confusing at times (he would right the wrong numbers to problems) and was not very clear as to what he expects. I would however recommend this class because he is tolerable compared to the other teachers. This semester, he gave retake tests and it really boosted your grade.
TAKE A DIFFERENT TEACHER. statistics is an easy math class but he makes its incredibly difficult to understand. Very difficult to follow class instruction. makes lectures so boring and even when I tried to pay attention I fell asleep because it was so boring. lots of homework too
He's the worst. I had him for 220 and 322 and he was horrible for both. The class would ask him questions and he would skirt around them until we got frustrated and stopped asking. In 322 he gave us a group project and never even game us feedback. The tests were absolutely impossible
I was not a fan of Sharma. He wasn't terrible, but nearing the end of the year he was not very understanding of students who didn't get the material. I spent most of my time learning stuff in my group or at the tutoring center. One good thing, he did give us the option to retake and average out our first test. Also very hard to pay attention to.
The WORST. He rarely answered students' questions correctly in class, uploaded study guide keys with the WRONG answers, uploaded multiple assignments/keys LATE (once uploaded a worksheet 4 hrs before it was due in class), poorly explains labs, and doesn't respond to most messages. Class was a waste of time. Only needed online version of textbook.
AVOID if you can. He's not helpful when answering questions and causes lots of frustration. Tests are difficult/so lengthy, I struggle to finish them in time. Labs are a mess because he's unclear and no one understands what he's saying. He gives lots of homework but uploads them later than he says he would. Messes up on his own math all the time.

This man is horrible. I took his class and he literally made no sense... EVER. He doesn't tell you what homework is due or when it is due. This man is not somebody I would ever recommend taking. Ignore anybody who says that they enjoyed him, they were high.
If you show up to class ready to listen and take notes you will be fine. Sharma is a little bit of a scatterbrain when it comes to due dates but he's fine. A lot of homework but it's really helpful, if we didn't have it I definitely wouldn't have passed any of his tests.
Dr Sharma is very kind and approachable, but his teaching style is difficult to follow and his communication is very poor. Most of the time in the class it was unclear what assignments were due when, and what was coming up. Overall, I would say he isn't the best professor, but if you show up and pay attention you'll probably do fine regardless.
Math 327 is pretty challenging so this is going to be a hard class regardless of who your professor is. Dr. Sharma is a nice guy but he doesnt break down concepts enough for people who arent stats majors to understand. The textbook doesnt explain anything well either so Ive relied on google to teach me everything for this class

DON'T RECOMMEND, he assigns hours of homework, and doesn't give clear instructions. On top of that his accent is thick so it's hard to understand what he's saying, I asked a question and he told me I was subtracting "apples from oranges" but left his response at that. He seems very kind but your gpa will suffer if you take his class.

If you have a choice to take a different professor, then do it. Lets you drop the lowest homework, in-class exercise and test grade, but will leave you scrambling at the end of the semester because he doesn't teach well. Your grade will suffer because he doesn't put in grades quickly so you're left w/o knowing what it is leading up to the final.
Professor Sharma is a nice guy, but doesn't teach very well. I basically had to teach myself all of the concepts to get good grades on the tests. He curves the tests quite a bit because the avg score is always so low. There's a lot of homework as well which can take a long time. Beware of the group projects. Trust me, don't take this class.
I dont think Dinesh deserves this bad of a rating because he wasnt that bad. he did talk fast and its hard to understand him a lot but as long as you keep track of stuff thats due and pay attention in class no matter how boring, you should do fine
If you took AP Stat in high school this will be a breeze. You do have to teach yourself by reading the textbook because Professor Sharma's lecture are more of an overview of the chapter. Tests are very similar to the study guides. Group projects can be time consuming and a little stressful, but just do your best bc he's a pretty easy grader.
Took him for online maymester & was scared because of his low rating on here. He is helpful, understanding and goes out of his way to find solutions to help his students. The material is hard but he does his best to explain it so that you can understand it. The online homework system was actually very helpful too so don't be scared of stat online
220HON Great person, not an amazing teacher. Hard to understand in a classroom environment. HLS makes due dates shaky and hard to keep up with. Group project from middle of semester to end, not very specific on directions. Switches between SPSS and material learning every week. It's like taking two different courses at once. Rarely emails back.
Professor Sharma was a solid professor for this honors Gen Ed course compared to the other professors available... This course was in person for me during the Fall of 2020 and was very small (8 people) so using SPSS and attending lectures was very personal and he was very helpful with answering questions. Attend class and pay attention!!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! Dr. Sharma is a nice guy but he's a really bad teacher. Especially if math is not your best subject. He doesn't explain the concepts well at all and will leave you totally lost by the time class is over. The tests are nothing like the homework so the class average is usually pretty bad. Also makes you use SPSS which is awful :(
Cant understand him at all(especially with a mask). Math 318 is hard as it is, but the complete lack of teaching that I experienced is inexcusable. Not a single person in my class understood the material. He would just go over slides everyday and when he did examples, half the time he wouldnt even know what he was doing, constantly messing up.
I didn't even take this class my friend did. I helped her with homework and when she asked for help reviewing the test it was absolutely nothing like Sharma's hw or lectures. Manz seems horrible, I could do better.
Dr. Sharma is a genuine guy who is passionate about what he is teaching. He does have an accent, but don't let that scare you- you will adjust quickly. Most of class time is spent going over slides. He works examples out on the board and gives group exercises that you complete during class, so attendance is important. Work hard and you'll do well.
Don't take him. There is a final project AND a final exam, and he leaves you scrambling to get it done. The tests are nothing like the ALEKS quizzes or homework, and the average is a D. If you have the choice to take another professor, please do. His grading on his tests also makes no sense (and is sometimes wrong) and there's nothing you can do.
It is a very simple class with homework due on Tuesdays and quizzes due on Thursdays. They are administered on ALEKS which is an extremely annoying cite. It is a lot of work, but if you do the homework and the quizzes, it can bring up a bad test grade. Definitely not a bad option for a professor.
He's a nice man and very smart. However, he doesn't explain material very engagingly. His lectures are hard to follow, and his voice is too quiet (mask makes it worse). At one point we were tested on material that we hadn't done homework on. Most people didn't do well in this class without serious curving.
Group project heavy!! If you have a good group, you will be good; if you don't, drop the class. Good guy, not the best at explaining, but will attempt to help you out.

Dr. Sharma is NOT good at explaining things. LOTS of work every week & uses lots of ALEKS and SPSS. Lots of group work & random attendance checks. Honestly, I understand the concepts until Dr. Sharma lectures and I leave class confused. Exams are closed and in person and NOT easy. Study guide is not much help. TRY TO STEER CLEAR!!!!
Do not take Statistics with this professor, he assigns a project at the beginning of the semester through SPSS. He gives bare minimum information on how to do it, then critically grades parts of the projects with no explanation nor how to fix it. He also will not answer emails within a week, and will not post things on Canvas like he says.
Dr. Sharma is the worst professor to take. He makes the final project absolutely impossible without any direction whatsoever. He takes a long time without grading assignments when the grades are needed to continue with the project. Even if he is your last option do not take him.
the class was okay test wasn't that bad, but test 2 is Thursday before finals week so it adds extra stress to that week that doesn't need to be, you have to meet with your math group out of class to do some assignments, they aren't bad if you have a good group. I'd take him if you like a flipped classroom.
I got dr sharma because my instructor for the course was changed and I was scared. class with him was not as challenging as I imagined, but it was still hard. sometimes he gets very confused and gives the wrong answer or something of the sort. he takes off large amounts of points for very minor things which can be frustrating. he's alright.
The material itself is easy, but the class is a pain. Course uses ALEKS, which is a poor online tool where you will complete a bunch of pointless busy work every week, no idea why any prof uses it. Weekly group work for multiple choice worksheets, turning a 10 minute sheet into a 1 hour ordeal. Mind-numbingly easy, but boring and tedious.
TAKE ANYONE ELSE! He put in my grade wrong twice and took until the very end of the semester to change it after I told him multiple times that my grade is wrong in canvas. He doesn't teach lecture well you basically have to teach it yourself. You have to do stupid peer evaluation forms which are the dumbest thing ever.
ALEKS homework was easy took awhile to complete. The 1st test was easy the 2nd test was harder. He posts a study guide for both and they do help. The group presentation was the worst part about class, there are little to no guide lines on how to do it, and when you email him he does not respond, office hours are your best bet.

Horrible lectures, rude, hard to contact, loads of ALEKS homework, and does not give any guidance (directions or rubric) on large final project. I have never had a professor raise their voice at me when asking for help on a topic in class but he's done it multiple times to me and my peers.
if you care about your sanity and free time, do not take him. nothing against him as a person, but he is such a bad professor. the lectures he gives in class do not help at all. you basically learn the whole curriculum through the ALEKKS modules he assigns. he doesn't give feedback and never answers his emails. good luck if you have to take him.
Professor Sharma is alright, not that good. He doesn't really respond to email or canvas messages. Read the syllabus!!! He doesn't really explain class policies or talk about homework/due date so you'll have to check that stuff on your own. A lot of ALEKS work. Overall not the hardest class but you might struggle if you're not great with math.

Whatever you do, DO NOT take him. He tends to favor the boys more than the girls when it comes to questions asked in class and will make you feel dumb for even asking a question. Be prepared for a challenging course with Professor Sharma. While the material itself is manageable, his teaching style and grading can be frustrating. Utilize resources like Unstuck AI, ChatGPT, and study groups to stay on top of the workload. The class is a mixed bag, but persistence pays off.
Class averages on tests were in the 40's and he blammed us calling us dumb. He is hard to reach and does not put effort in to help students. His structure is very confusing and changes. Lots of group work that required hours outside of classtime. Only reason I passed was due to the tutoring center in SSC. Strongly advise NOT to take him.
DO NOT TAKE if at all possible do not take his class he does not know how to teach and just gives out an absurd amount of busy work that does not help you learn.
He has no idea how to teach and assigns far more homework than is required to learn the material. he is a completely unfair grader and absolutely unbearable to listen to in class do not take his class if you can you WILL regret it.
Dr. Sharma is a very nice person but a horrible professor. I think that he tries his best to help his students but has only busy work assignments. The averages on the exams are in the 50s without a curve. He is an extremely harsh grader and will take off points for any mistake. Do not take this class.
If you can avoid it, stay extremely far away from this professor. He is incredibly condescending and told my class multiple times that if we couldn't figure out how to do it, we needed to find someone else to teach us. WAYYY too much homework and assignments in general, especially on ALEKS. His tests are extremely difficult. avoid avoid avoid!!
Would make u feel stupid for getting a question wrong then would get mad that no one would answer questions during lecture. Lots of homework in ALEKS, but that's the only way you'll learn tbh. His lectures didn't help much except for practice problems. Need a graphing calculator. Randomly takes attendance, tough grader on data analysis assignments.
Dr. Sharma was very knowledgeable in statistics, but he wasn't as proficient in R. There was a lot of group work, so make sure that you choose a group that you would be okay working in for most of the semester. He also deducts points on everything and is sometimes a bit harsh towards his students in class. It's not hard to get an A, though.
HE WAS AWFUL. Do not take this class. He's a terrible teacher and person. So much homework. READING ASSIGNMENTS FOR MATH… I get war flashbacks about this class.
So unorganized! He said that there would be weekly textbook assignments that are worth 10% of the grade. I missed one and these assignments stopped a month in, tanking my grade. He does not post rubrics or templates for assignments so they are figured out through trial and error. You are forced to gamble your grade, and the house always wins.
He sucks teaching, he goes through slides every class and has homeworks and class exercise. He expects you to do R exercise in 15 mins and submit or you have penalty. If you email him, he never gets back to you. There is a final project with teams but again he is a very tough grader.
He was extremely unorganized, half our class was spent telling him his spelling errors, or telling him what to do. He is a tough grader for no reason. He expects you to get an assignment done in 10 minutes and if you don't that your issue. He is not a good teacher, does not respond to emails, and he takes months to grade things.
when i say you will in-fact hate yourself after taking this class, you will HATE yourself from trying to persevere through it. he was hands down the most evil teacher i've ever had. he can. not. teach. for the life of him. he made me cry during my second time ever having his class. run out of his class while you still can, trust me.
