he's a dork, but tries his best to make it fun. emails you about quizes and "surprizes" all lectures and terms on his web site, including the sylabus
Good teacher and very nice. Always willing to answer any question you might have about anything. Lectures are a little boring, but he tries to be funny, and he breaks up the lectures for class discussions on the readings, so it makes up for it. Would recommend his class to anyone.
Good professor, kinda gets boring during lecture, but overall its ok. If you study his slides and material, the tests aren't hard at all, you learn something from the class and have a good chance of getting an A. Definitely recommend
Superb! Possibly one of the best instructors of history that I've ever had.
Tests are extremely difficult. Hes very rigid when it comes to grading and extra credit. If you don't answer questions in the way he wants, he'll fail you. He got an attitude once when nobody answered a question :/ hes an a**hole, don't take him.
The class was just too easy. I didn't really feel challenged at all. Recommened for an easy pass. Plus you get cookies sometimes.
Absolutely horrible. He was rude and unorganized. He refuses to provide you your standing percentage in the class throughout the semester.
He was ridiculous. It's obvious that history is his passion but his teaching skills WACK. Lecture, lecture, power-point, WHO CARES? He forgot to pass out an essay prompt to some of us and we had to ask him for it through e-mail which happened a week later and we only had one week to turn it in instead of two weeks as stated on the prompt.
Tough but extremely fair. You'll get out what you put in. What more can you ask?
This is the MOST horrible teacher i have ever taken. I thought that since it was RCC it would be easier, but this is the hardest class ive ever taken in college. His tests are ridiculous, i wish that they were more CLEAR & UNDERSTANDABLE. I love his lectures, they are fine. But his TESTS are killer. i swear i just want to cry.
He is impossible. The tests are ridiculously hard. He teaches the subjects after he's already tested you on them. This class is so hard you can't pass. It will make you lose faith in school definitely.
He is a hard teacher, honestly. But he is a pretty good lecturer. His cookies are good. Quizzes extremely difficult. Everyone in the class thought they were failing the WHOLE time. But in the end, it was pretty much a c average. At least for me and four of my friends who thought we were failing. This classes teaches you a lot, but you gotta WORK!
Ridiculously hard class. You have to WORK to pass this class. Reading every night, and a lot of it. Be prepared, because this class is far from easy, and it was one of the most ridiculous finals that most of my friends have ever seen.
Is the man tough? Compared with other profs he is, but that's not saying much. He's not a pushover. Suprising there are many profs who are bigger pushovers than even some high school teachers. He's got standards and he applies them fairly. Hell, everythings's in his syllabus! His class is getting no complaint from me. So, Doc B, rock on!
Took him for World Civ 2 in summer school. He was pretty tough but if you paid attention in class and studied the vocab, the class wasn't too bad. Just realize that you can't slack off in his class.
Notes in class are necessary for the tests, which have a lot of writing sections. He gives quite a few quizzes on external reading assignments.Overall you will learn a lot about the subject matter and he is a very good teacher but his style makes for a demanding class.
Do not go into this class expecting it to be easy. His tests are extremely hard and he never really tells you how your doing in the class, you kind of just have to stay and find out. I ended up with an A but throughout the semester I was stressing really bad. He acts as if you have no other classes and need to concentrate mainly on his
The teacher knows his stuff and attempts to pass that knowledge off to the student through a mountain of assignments. DO NOT enter his class expecting an easy grade, you really have to earn it.
The first day of class the room was filled with students who were registered and students who were interested in adding. On the last day of class there were 3 students remaining. He did not teach to the standards of the student. He is not flexible with his teaching style. Buenviaje tests are difficult and are not focused on main topics.
Do not take this class unless you are a history Major or AP Student
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!
Tonight will be my second class meeting for history 2. The amount of homework (mainly reading) was ridiculous. I had to purchase 9 books for the class then he said we didn't need a few of them...i've emailed him 3 times and had 0 response...my question was in regards to him updating the syllabus, which i have yet to see happen.
His class isn't as hard as some would think, but he has absolutely no interest in your opinion or feedback. He teaches class like his being there is an inconvenience for him and treats his students with contempt. His lectures contain almost no discussion or room for questions and only summarize the considerable reading you?ve already had to do.
This man should not be allowed to teach. He is working on his PHD and seems to take it out on the rest of the class. He is not sympathetic to student needs and even had online course work due on Thanksgiving and after the final. He was teaching from an outdated book so the reading he assigned didn't match the lecture. It was very frustrating.
You definitely have to read, he summarizes things you should already have read, he does map quizzes and tests based on reading. Sometimes he'll wait for you to answer a question. He'll do pop quizzes if no one answers. He is pretty mono-toned. He missed a couple of classes because of his cat...But he does lecture seriously, sometimes a corny joke..
testing and projects tend to demand every minimum detail.
Veeery organised, you better believe that.He comes to class ready. If your ready to learn,he's definately the one. Oh, he's brilliant, and knows his stuff.Every little detail matters to him.He reads every discussion online. You will get your money worh. i enjoyed his class,2hrs 10 minute flow by, because participation is crucial in his class enjoy!
Loved this professor and loved this class. I don't really like spontaneous professors because I don't know what to expect. But with Buenviaje, I went into class knowing exactly what was expected of me. He made instructions extremely concrete and reasonable. And this man KNOWS HIS STUFF. Ask him anything! Lectures were simple and interesting.
Horrible teacher. he does not help what so ever. He lets you fail. Then gets irrated for everything. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Don't take this class unless you LOVE to read and can stay awake through a very long, uninteresting, and endless-seeming lecture about history.
I look his HIS 7 class. He is ALRIGHT. I did not have to use any books he required, so I am glad I didn't buy any and I got a B. He is a serious man and makes jokes here and there but it is awkward because of his mono-toned voice. Easy class. Just review the lecture notes and you will do fine.
This teacher is so unbelievably rude. Any time someone asks a question he cuts them off and acts like an ass. He assigns things that are just outright ridiculous! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
This class was horrible. He made you read from 4 different books, Homework like crazy, and was very boring in his teachings. I want to become a History teacher and this is how not to be when it comes to getting your students interested in your work... class was horrible!
he is a horrible professor. Very rude. His mono tone voice is very annoying, and it seems like he has favorites in the class
his hard to understand. isnt fully cooperate and teachers horrible
This is one of the worst instructors I have ever encountered. He is a nice guy, but that is nothing compared to the amount of tedious and awful studying you have to do to pass this class. He is far from clear and the last thing he is, is helpful. Save yourself the trouble and DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, HE IS HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:(
This Mr. Buenviaje is a wonderful professor. If you are lazy and don't care about education this is not the class for you. Love his class and I am considering changing my major history is such and important part of the United States. You will love this class.
This professor was great, was strict on talking and reading the material, is able to answer any question you have on history. You will learn in this class, and you will be a better person for it. Expect lots of reading, lots of testing and for once actually accomplishing something instead of just showing up and getting a C!
This professor seems horribly boring and monotone, but I actually really learned a lot in his class. I actually understood history for the first time in my entire life, and his lectures were pretty interesting if you wanted to pay attention. He's severely strict and intimidating, but you will learn. A lot of reading and effort for your grade though
Don't take grading method is horrible. Cuts you off while asking questions. to much reading 4 books total. you would have to memorize every book to pass
This guy is soo RUDE and will cut you off when speaking!! He seems very frustrated with his career and does not have anytime to answer your questions. Expect to be reading alot since he wants everyone to participate in his discussions. Your are graded for participating and you will get many of his "surprises" if no one comes prepared. Run away!!
I took this class in summer 2014. The reading assignments are long but is to be expected with a summer class. 2-3 pop quiz's a week but, easy pass as long as you read. You MUST read and You will do a lot of writing. Eng 1A is highly recommended, he grades hard on grammar and I don't blame him. Participate please and you will pass. Know your Maps.
Total slave driver. Not considerate of fun what his students needs are. He is very clear on dates for test and quizes. You study your butt off and then he doesn't even give you enough time to finish the test. Such a jerk!!! I am a very good student, do all the readings and work, but still scores low because of his unfair teachings!
Looooove this Professor you learn so much in his class he is brilliant. I am a History fanatic and i learned so much in his class. His class is not hard unless your a lazy student who just wants to float by. If you care about your education best professor to take. He has so much history in his family really fun class.
Although this professer does know his stuff, he is a very tough grader. Be prepared to participate even if you don't want to because points are distributed every class meeting and if you don't you lose those points. I recommend doing the reading before class so it's easier to participate .
The worst professor I have ever had, period.
Be sure you know your maps. Midterm/Final exams are 50 questions from someplace. Not things talked about in the book or the lecture. Then 50 map questions- you should know the countries, the cities, the major locations of temples, rivers, etc. Long Lectures, Essay Exams, Quizes. Even a grammar exam.
Best advice take with another proffesor
Studied for the final for 3 days making so many flashcards but still failed the final. I got all B's in my other classes except this one. large warning DO NOT TAKE THE CLASS WITH THIS PROFFESOR.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He does not explain much of the material he expects everyone to know it already. At the beginning of the class it was full every seat was taken by the end of the term there were only about 10 people which pretty much explains my point.
From the moment I walked into his class, I felt a bad vibe. I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt then came the tests and pop quizzes that made no sense, even if you read the book AND attend his lectures daily. He was sarcastic when you asked for help and he took his sweet time responding to e-mail questions. GET ANOTHER TEACHER.
First week of school, was expected to have textbook also expected to know the world map within 3 days because we had an in class quiz. On top of that he issued us to read 4 chapters in a week on top of 4 chapters in two other books. BE PREPARED by day one or you will FAIL.
On the first day, the whole class was filled. Within, a couple weeks there was a handful of students left. That says a lot. He's a tough grader, doesn't answer questions and doesnt offer much helps. Gives quizes and tests on questions that weren't talked about in lecture. The map quiz is tough. Hes times test and quizes. Way to stressful.
He's fair and dedicated. I know some students think his subject is hard, but you get what you put in it. I like him and if you want to learn, listen to his lectures and read!
He is one of the best teachers I've ever had. Yes he does some decently hard test, and yes a lot of people drop. However 9 times out of 10 its because the students still act like they're in high school. Pay attention, take notes, read and ask for help from him or others in class. Do that and you get an easy A. This is college people, act like it.
I like this teacher a lot. He is hard working. Can you ask for more?
Interesting lectures with good pacing and effective powerpoints. He is very consistent with keeping to his syllabus and reminding students to stay on track. Readings in this class are heavy but not impossible. His grading of essays however, are a bit brutal. I used to be an English major and I still struggled to get a decent grade on them.
He is more on the serious side but I enjoyed his class. His enthusiasm and zero tolerance for talking make a great learning environment.
I don't understand why this professor's gotten such a bad rap. Yes, it's a tougher class, but his lectures are highly informative, he offers tons of extra credit, hands back work on time, and constantly reminds you of important dates. Take good notes during lecture, participate, and stay on top of the People & Terms and you'll likely receive an A.
Mr. Buenviaje was probably one of the most efficent teachers I have encountered at RCC. He is stern and brilliant, his lectures are detailed and informative, and most importantly he will teach you what you need to know and more. His course requires effort, which seems to be difficult for some, but if you're willing to do the work you will def. pass
Even though this was an online class it was impossible to get a response from the professor regarding questions I had when I emailed the professor. Out of the 5 emails I sent him he only replied to one. The exams are ridiculously timed (40 qs/20min) and the grading is also inaccurate for the fill in the blanks and he will not review them.
this guy make a possible B class into I hope I get a C class. He does not give out A's
He was okay. Keeping up with his reading is very difficult. Lectures weren't bad, they were actually kind of interesting. He's just a tough grader and expects a lot.
Just drop the class unless you don't want to pass
Extremely tough grader and asked for an essay as a test, timed at one hour. Unreal expectations. Grading criteria is unclear when it comes to participation. Lucky if I come out with a B-. Find another professor.
He is a very intelligent man but has no personality. His exams are extremely difficult so take this class if you are looking for a C or lower. You are required to participate daily, read 3 textbooks, 4 essay tests, and every other pop quiz will be very detailed and difficult. I enjoyed his lecture for the most part but the tests ruin the class.
Overall his class is okay. I was able to procrastinate and zone out from time to time and still pass the class with a B. I worked full time as well, but History is one of my favorite subjects, so there's that. But it was pretty easy just do your work. He is boring but I did enjoy the class. Recommend taking him winter its much easier and faster.
Professor Buenviaje is a very knowledgeable person. He knows his history, but lectures are long. He expects constant participation from the entire class, lots of quizzes, and very tough exams. He assigns a great amount of readings for every class meeting. If you like challenges, then take him. But if you want an easy A, avoid him.
A lot of reading will be expected. You must know your history very well if you want an A. Participation is counted as credit. Gives a lot of extra credit. My biggest pet peeve of him is he would get behind in his lectures. In other words, he'd quiz us on material we didn't know and taught it right after. VERY ANNOYING. He knows his history very wel
He comes off very strict and most people dropped in the first week. However, if you follow the syllabus and do all the reading, you should slide by. It is obvious he genuinely enjoys History and you are bound to learn in his class.
he's not terrible but he is. he's surprisingly awkward but also very condescending, and dont even get me started on tests and quizzes.(you'll get alot) You need to dissect every map ever created and read books you don't really need. you need to asks questions a lot, but beware of the condescending answer. knowledgeable, but condescending.
I am a History major and this class is extremely hard. So much work!!! The map quizzes were insane. 3-4 Timed essays, 6 pop quizzes, mid-term, final, participation every class meeting. Although he knows his history and the class was informative, lectures were long and boring. He is just awkward and if you want to pass don't take him. Do NOT.
He was a very hard professor, lots of reading every week, pop quizzes whenever he pleased, tests were timed not good. Did not care what students had to say would not answer questions very good either. Lectures were very long drawn out and boring. The only good thing about him was he kept grades up to date very god and let you know of deadlunes
I would suggest not taking his class even online. I took this class for Winter and he gives a heavy work load and unrealistic time for test taking. 70 questions and have 40 minutes to get it done. In one week two discussions( 8-10 sentences plus reply to three people , quizzes (more than one )and multiple readings. He is to focused on plagiarizin
He is rude and does not teach well! Skip this professor!
He is boring teaches nothing just talks doesn't answer questions! Find yourself another professor if you want to get the grade you deserve!
His class is VERY difficult, but it can be passed: you will read, a lot; you will have to remember as much as possible from those readings (from more than one book), combine them with lecture and write clear and concise timed essay on several occasions; and you will get pop quizzes. Despite what everyone says, he's a good professor, just work hard.
Very stressful class, we have three books to read to have a chance at passing. Exams, essays and quizzes are timed which only made me stress even more. Participation is very important and he grades you for it out of 100 points. What i did not like was his response to people participating i can sense judgment which was very discouraging.
Very hard strict teacher, I would not recommend him to someone who habitually procrastinates, and isn't disciplined. Has zero personality. Expect to read A LOT. Three critical thinking term papers to write. Fortunately no group work or projects. He does give some extra credit assignments, which helped a lot. Attendance is mandatory.
Horrible. Sets his students up for failure. He needs to update syllabus badly, dates & time frames for exams don't match up, on blackboard, syllabus, or emails. He purposely tries to confuse his students, also he gives too much to study & all off content does not match up with exams. Gives three part exams & no study guides just some terms.
If you are looking for a fair grader-- do not take this professor! He grades unfairly and his instructions for tests are confusing! If you do what he asks you will get a bad score, it makes no sense! I've never had such a difficult, unfair, confusing professor at RCC as this teacher! It's only a 3 unit class but the work is equal to a 5 or more!!
Reading for days. Three texts. Must post once a week and respond to classmates. Tests are a little stressful, must answer questions as they come, no skipping through test. Not so bad besides all the reading. Provides PowerPoints. No using outside sources on tests. He has reported many students for this. Daily email reminds on what is coming due.
there is a LOT of reading involved. I suggest creating a study guide at the start of the class do not just depend on the ppl and terms. Take your time to remember the info big and small. the class is very detailed, While his personality is lacking and the work is overwhelming at times. the class can be passed. You cant miss any work. stay focused
He makes you read to much. Dont take his class youll hate it .
ive Never had such a difficult class before. He is very strict and a little scary at times. Be prepared to read and have heavy lectures.
Despite of other ratings I took the class for winter 2018 and honestly it wasn't that bad. He does have interesting lectures and tries to make the material understandable by giving a modern day examples with it. But overall if you actually study for the class you won't have a tough time.
This professor will make you WORK for your grade. You have to be on top of your reading, notes and PARTICIPATION DOES MATTER. Even though he is a tough grader participating every day will bring your grade one letter up. Makes sure you read the book Overthrown (in class discussions on the book are actually Pop Quizes) Online Essays are important
This class is a CHALLENGE. Take notes. Do not procrastinate. He makes his PowerPoints accesible on blackboard so take advantage of that. He provides study guides but it is YOUR RESONSIBILTY to be prepared. KNOW THE TERMS AND PLACES ON A MAP. MIDTERM AND FINAL ARE IMPORTANT. Be prepared to READ A LOT and memorize people, places, dates and times.
He is a solid teacher but may not be for everyone. It is a serious college class where it is your responsibility to be on top of the syllabus. He provides the information needed and everyday in class reminds you to look at the syllabus for upcoming events. He enjoys history and you can tell. Hes a great teacher but I believe some may not enjoy it.
On the first day of class really read the syllabus because he gives a quiz about it next day. Also read the readings that are on syllabus because he will give quizzes and it mostly on readings and show up because he does take attendance so dont be late or he will make you absent. Also participating in class is require so ask questions.
Prof Buenviaje's HIST-2 is VERY difficult. Just so you get an idea of how difficult it is, class began with 30+ students and ended with about 10. There are no actual study guides. You get tested on the syllabus on the second day of class. He requires 4 books for this course. You get quiz after quiz. I am a history major and I hated this class!!
The class was definitely hard, but you are most definitely able to pass if you put in the work. Total of four books were required. My favorite part of this class were the lectures, it feels like story-time. Take this class if you are serious about it, if not do not bother because you have to work really hard to earn your grade.
Be prepared because he is very knowledgeable and expects you to be on top of the material. Be sure to be prepared for pop quizzes and tests. If you are determined you will pass this class if not just stay out of it. the tap to his water bottle at the end of quizzes is as bad as thanos snap The sound of metal brings that anxiety back from this class
He was a nice professors and mad sure you did your work and on time. We all had to work together in class and had to group up to stay informed. I had fun....
Terrible, 5 books for a 3 unit class. Doesnt answer emails. Blames you if he messes up. Doesnt lecture good. Powerpoints are awful.
Honestly the worst professor I've had. Doesn't lecture according to the book. Speaks way too fast. The only way to pass the class is to read all the books (4 books) and during lecture write down exactly what he says because his power points explain nothing. When you ask him to clarify something in class, he only vaguely answers your question.
This Professor is the worst Professor I have over had to work with. When asked to clarify on assignments he does not reply. He talks extremely fast and will not repeat what he went over in lectures. He is very rude and will shine you off. Power points he displays during lecture are pointless. You will not pass If you take his class!!!
350 characters is not enough for me to express how I despise buenviaje and his course. Do yourself a favor and take anyone else because I can say for certain that you will not find a more tedious, unengaging, anxiety-inducing class from a more inconsiderate, and exhausting Professor. I've had root canals more enjoyable than this class.
Do not take his class. He does not have any communication with students so email is pointless. Zero personality. Timed tests, closed note, in class essays. I am usually a star student and I have settled for passing so I can hurry up and get it over with. As the rating says, Mediocre at best !
Buenviaje is extremely knowledgeable on the subject of history but I don't know that I would recommend his class to the average student. The course takes a lot of extra reading, studying, and overall extra work in order to get an A. If you are struggling in the course talk with the professor and dont give up. Grades change at the end of the course.
OH MY GOD. During the pandemic he made his class harder. After speaking to him over email asking for a more reasonable workload considering it, he declined. And to top it off he added an extra discussion assignment for the next week. should i hear his name, i will be sure to raise awareness to drop his class unless he is the only teacher.
This Professor will not hold your hand and guide you through class. You must have the discipline to teach yourself and keep on top of test days and assignments. His lectures are really fast paced and there is a ton of reading from multiple books. I have ADHD and even with my DRC accommodations, I struggled a lot. His class is the only one I failed.
***************WARNING DUE TO COVID19 PANDEMIC**************** DO NOT! I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
I blame myself for this class because I didn't find history very eye-catching so I wouldn't participate or pay attention or fall sleep. I agree he is an excellent teacher and cares for his students, but lectures weren't fun. Overall, study and work hard for this class. He does participation points and those really help during finals week. Good luck
He is someone who expects who to be on top of your homework and assigned readings all the time. He will occasionally give you pop quizzes on assigned readings and on quizzes and tests, if the quiz is 20 questions, you have 15 mins to complete it. If your someone who stresses alot and is busy BE CAREFUL WITH THIS CLASS!
If you're an adult paying bills and going through normal life, do not take a class from this professor. Unforgiving. I work 50 hour weeks, am married, and have a kid. This guy has taken me away from my normal life with the required readings alone. It's a community college and he takes it beyond the requirements.
No consideration for covid, nothing was posted online, never responded to emails (or any online communication, really), and throws out tests left and right. I especially wouldn't recommend his class to first year students.
Like others have said, excessive required reading, excessive papers, strict time requirements on quizzes and tests. Hardest class I've taken at RCC by a country mile. Doesn't really teach, gave readings over Thanksgiving break, spams automated emails, typos in assignments that create confusion. Finished with a 108%, wasn't worth it.
Im telling you now this is the worst professor Ive had since enrolling at rcc . hes a teacher I feel definitely gives way too much work for a six week course. four books for one course. multiple tests , essays , essay tests , no late work allowed . he doesnt answer emails. I honestly dont understand how he still is employed.
Took Buenviaje during winter semester and knew that it would be rushed however the amount of work that was due a week was ridiculous 2-3 discussions, quiz & 4-5 pg essay. Midterm/final exam week consists of 5 part exam 2 quizzes, an essay, and discussions. Do not take if you have other commitments (i.e. Parent) 4 books required all must be finished
this is the only warning I give. four books for a winter course pop quizzes midterm exam map quizzes with little to no instruction 2 essay tests final exam essay exam not to mention the professor himself has worked at multiple colleges and universities and most of the reviews match this one. ur set up to fail don't take the risk!
Honestly the only thing that peeved me about this class was that fact that there was 4 discussion boards, a 4 part final, and a quiz was all due on the same day. There's no reason for it lol
This professor does NOT TEACH and all he does is bombard you with busywork. We never met via zoom and he never posted any recorded lectures. Requires you to read 4 books in the span of 6 weeks. He does not prepare you for any assignments or tests. You have to teach yourself! last week of class we had 14 assignments/tests in a span of 4 days. RUN!
I came to RCC from the UC system just for some cheeper summer classes. This class was 10x more difficult and more demanding than any University class that you can find. The workload was a quiz, essay, discussion board, or midterm/final seemingly every single day. Oh, and there is 4 books to buy and read.
DO NOT TAKE this instructor, maybe he will improve with time but right now he is completely set in his ways and is in no way accommodating to the needs of his students. After my interaction with him I worry that students new to college will become unmotivated and drop out. DON'T judge what your college experience could be based on this instructor.
The amount of work and reading expected to be done within such a short time limit (6 weeks for a summer college course) is not realistic if you are a person with a life who needs to go to a job in order to pay for things like rent and food.
This is by far the worst professor. If I were a younger student, I know I would have dropped this class or quit college altogether. This professor sets you up to fail. 3-4 discussion boards, pop quizzes & four to five-part midterms/final exams. He thinks hes an English teacher so be prepared to know proper essay writing. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
Other reviews are correct, there is a lot of busy work and a ton of assignments, but honestly, I have had high school classes worse than this.
Unprofessional, gives unclear instruction, overwhelming amount of reading for a winter term. His own words per an email in regards to missing components from his syllabus, " I hope students will acquire from this course is to gain some initiative, rather than wait for everything to be spoonfed to them."
Very strict instructor who gives a lot of work. Honestly it was difficult listening to lectures because he says "um" constantly. He does not explain things well.
tons of homework, the pop quizzes really affect your grade, and an insane amount of reading. there's 4 books and unfortunately i bought them and it cost me 230 dollars. seriously do not take this class
I read about the reviews about this professor but had already enrolled in his class and ignored all the reviews. WORST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE THIS WAS THE WORST CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN! Don't take his class and listen to all the other reviews they were all true. He basically just assigned a ton of homework and quizzes and expected you to teach yourself
This is a history class DONT expect an easy a. His lectures are long and wordy but very interesting. Get ready to take notes and read. Overall, he is very interested in history and is very knowledgeable.
Get ready to earn your grade in this class. There is lots of reading you will have to keep up with as you will be quizzed on them and will tie into the lecture! He's tough but I learned a lot from the class because of it. Don't give up on yourself the class is doable as long as you put in the work! this is not the class you can slack off in.
Do NOT take this professors' class if you have a life outside of it. I've never dropped from a class before until this because of how overwhelming it truly was. Absurd of how many assignments he was requiring to do within the first week, I've never seen anything like it in my two years at RCC. Also be ready to buy mandatory FIVE books.
I was very surprised by the amount of assignments he posted in just 1 week. it between 8-16 assignments for just 1 week. There are a lot of discussions, reading, and pop quizzes every week. you are required to buy all 4 books for this class if you intend to pass. His class is very overwhelming.
The sheer amount of work he assigns is ridiculous. At least 2 discussions, a quiz, an essay test, and essay assignment can be expected each week, on top of readings from multiple textbooks and lectures, which aren't optional if you want to pass. He doesn't keep up with grading the essays or discussions so there's no feedback to go off of either.
Unfair grading. Doesn't allow extensions or extra credit when needed. Overall just awful.
If you take this class, make sure to only take this class he will make you be behind on other classes. not worth taking his classes.
If you are a history major I still would not recommend taking this course because the amount of work that he makes you do is insane. I have completed over 70 assignments in this course which include essay assignments, essay tests, quizzes, pop quizzes, and discussion boards. He does not respond to emails, so you would need to see him in person.
This professor makes history hell. I am sorry but that is the truth. If you have to take this class, let it be the only one you take during the term. You will complete several essays, pop quizzes, discussion boards, besides regular tests and quizzes. You have to buy four books btw. Does not respond to emails and is a late grader. Don't take!
Do not take this class if you have responsibilities outside school. Pop quizzes nearly every lecture, mandatory 5 textbooks, no extra credit and you weren't allowed to make up assignments. The grading system sucked with 5-6 page essays only being worth 10 points. The only thing I enjoyed about this class was that the lectures were interesting.
If you have a life outside of this class, do not take him. Up to 3 discussions (minimum 8 sentences for a post), pop quizzes every week, and 5-6 PAGE essays worth a MEASLY 10 POINTS EVERY WEEK. ON TOP of that, you will need to have 4 MANDATORY books for you to be able to fluently answer assignments. Need to read from them every week. Picky grader.
He gives a lot of assignments, tests, quizzes, finals, and midterms even on a federal holiday. His lectures are just looking at the slides, not to mention that this class REQUIRES four textbooks. I do not recommend this class if you are busy outside of school, have way too many assignments, and are a very picky grader as well, doesn't respond.
If you guys see a His-7 class that doesn't have the professors name, DO NOT TAKE IT. You'll get this guy. He expects you to read so much, requires so many textbooks and doesn't even use them all. He doesn't respond to emails. And he'll even accuse you of using AI even if you didn't. WORST PROF EVER
this professor gives a lot of essays for very minimal points, there is mandatory participation by speaking in class (which ends up being a decent chunk of your grade) and a lot of reading. There are a lot if essay questions in exams and there are many terms we are told to memorize, and only end up writing about 3-5.
He gave way too much busywork. I was constantly only doing his assignments while falling behind in my other classes, only for my work to be subpar. Four textbooks are required and cost a good amount of money. The only positive comment I have to make is that I learned a decent amount when I was there, however, it is not worth the stress.
The worst professor in my life..never ever taking his class..omg! He just made my life hell for this winter course..never replies email..worst worst and worst professor ever..
This is not a class where you can just AI everything and get away with it. He grades heavily on your comprehension. Papers are what he mostly grades heavily on. He is tough but it was so rewarding. He provides extra credit so take advantage of that. There are pop quizzes so stay on top of that. Take advantage of the 2 attempts!
This dude made us get 3 textbooks and we used it probably once. He gives you 5 minutes to do a 15 question test. There is a lot of reading involved. uses AI to detect if you used AI on the tests, even if you didn't. His AI detector said it was 95% AI for a test, when I wrote it all by hand and he gave me a 0. He never answers emails
Just DO NOT take him save ur sanity. He is the worst professor I have had so far. I did not read his reviews which was my mistake. 1st week we had an essay that he did not even discuss & that same first week we had a pop quiz on geography???? He LOVES pop quizzes and his power points have NO info so u HAVE to listen to him, also hard to understand.
Wish I never took this class, I took a short summary class and we had an essay due the first week. He does in fact give pop quizzes and some of his quizzes have 5 minute timers. Work is due at 11 not 11:59 which is just really annoying. He is not lenient at all with due date times. Someone told me not to take this class and I really wish I listened
A lot of this class is essays and tests it's more tests than lectures
