Pretty good teacher, very enthusiatic about material, if you study the readings and the notes you should have no problem. (try to take his lab too).
I've never in my life had such a horrible and hard teacher!!! His tests are sooooooooo hard!!!And he also gives quizzes every class. My first test I studied the whole week before, and I got an F. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM!!!
this teacher is not hard, the person below probably didn't understand the material in the 1st place. He makes the class very interesting, and is willing to answer any question you have. the tests can be hard if you don't study the lecture notes and the readings, and he CURVES tests grades...
his class&lab are interesting, but his tests r pretty hard-no study guide! he curves grades so it helps. he himself knows the subject very well-is enthusiastic about it-i stongly suggest do not take his historical geology LAB w/o taking the physical geology CLASS first-u need physical geology first.
Dr. Stewart is one of the best professors ever. He knows geology and chemistry like the back of his hand. His is very concerned with each student's progress and is always willing to help and be fair. The daily quizzes are a joke if you have half a brain. His tests are straight forward. He rules!
Daily quizzes are pretty easy..you get four points out of ten just for signing your name, and the quizzes are always over what he lectured on the previous class so dont even bother reading the assigned homework each night. Tests require some thought, but he does curve them. Nice guy, entertaining!
The quizzes were easy. The tests however, did take more preparation than he leads you to believe. Take goods notes and draw the graphs or charts he puts on the board when taking notes they have been known to show up later. Entertaining and a good storyteller.
super teacher. very interesting and smart. do the assigned reading and take good notes. if you can think the processes through they make sense. tests do take some study but quizes are a breeze. take his lab if possible makes lecture easier.
great teacher. great at communicating his subject. has extensive knowledge/knows exactly what he is talking about. i say definitly take him. *just don't fall behind on your reading*
One of the worst professors i have ever had. he puts stuff on the test that he does not go over in class or in the book. there are only 3 tests worth 60% and daily quizzes that r sometimes really hard. does not offer any extra credit. if u have an 89.69 he will still give u a B. ****! i hated every minute of this class until i droped it!
Smart and pleasant. However brags about all the nice and rich schools he has taught. If you have only his class and full time to study for his very hard tests, you will be fine.Otherwise forget it,tests are very hard. Teaches as you were supposed to know it all.Lab, impossible!
When you ask what should you study for the test, he answers "EVERYTHING". However, he does not asks directly from the book or lecture, he asks for you to make conclusions about what you read on the book.If you're not already an Geologist just forget it!
HORRIBLE!! not other word. Should be repalced for a rel teacher who cares for his students. Egomaniac!
A good teacher who knows his subject well. His tests can be hard, but if you take notes and study the material you will be fine. The naysayers just want an easy A and are angry because this teacher may actually challenge them to think. Take the laboratory for a better grasp of the material. Recommended.
I used the feedback from this site to pick him and back then he sounded like the most tolerable. the feedback has definately changed. He is very tough on tests and there are quizzes ever class. I also took the lab class and it was terrible. Plan on studying everyday and visiting him during office hours if you want an A-. I won't take again!!!!!!!
Here is an exerpt from the syllabus: "any concept found in the book or discussed in lecture can be on the exams". ANY?! Many of his exam questions cover assumptions that he wants you to make from the reading. I'm not a student who is just looking for an easy A, but I would like to at least feel that it's possible to make one if I work for it.
Worst experience of my college career. I am a Hope student and this class is ridiculously difficult. Nearly impossible to study for this class and any others during the same semester. I wish I would have dropped. Any positive review on this teacher has to be from a student with no other classes.
Mr. Stewart definitely knows the material and he is very charasmatic, however, the class is hard to follow and there is a ton of material. He also has a bit of a temper and has been known to explode if he thinks your asking for leniency. He yelled at me once and used the 's' word. I can understand his frustrations, but that was very unprofessional
I think he feels bad about teaching at a community college because he spends so much time yelling at us for wanting a study guide or some type of a clue what to study in the text book that weighs more than all other textbooks combined and his impossibly boring lectures. He likes to brag about his connections, too. Horrible teacher.
Dr.Stewart is the best professor I have ever had.I enjoyed his lecture and lab classes. If you take his course you WILL have to study your notes regularly and expect to take a daily quiz. This should come as no surprise to anyone who seeks to do well in school anyway. Those who are complaining should realize that college is not for everyone.
OH my gosh this teacher is AWFUL! You have to study HARD which is very difficult when you are taking 4 other classes. HE has def. changed from last semester. He has an anger problem and an awful temper. He yelled at me one day for supposdly cheating on a partner lab activity. HE is HORRIBLE! and is teaching methoods SUCK!! he uses all graphs. AWFUL
Bad experience during Fall semester. He was vague in explanation of content of tests, gave no extra credit or opportunities to pull up grades. Before final there was only one A in the class, mostly C's and several D's. At least 10 people dropped this class. Always bragged about rich kids at Penn State.
He is THE WORST teacher I have ever taken!!! I hope for your sake no one ever takes one of his classes again! The only reason to take his class is if you want to FAIL!!!
HORRIBLE!!! I failed his environmental class last semester and my dumb a** didn't look @ who my teacher was for geology this semester. I ended up wit him again! DO NOT take his class! He's sooo hard. His teaching style sucks and his tests are confusing. You have to study your a** off.
He is tuff, but he is a damn good teacher, he knows his stuff, dont take this if your looking for an easy class. Take this if you want to really learn about geology and are going to work for it
He is the most evil man on earth, and he is by far the worst teacher on earth. He is so difficult and could care less if you pass his class. Thinks GPC students are idiots and thinks he belongs at Vermont or Boulder (then why is he here at GPC??). trust me, if you take him you'll regret it! RUN FROM STEWART! HE IS THE WORST!!
His tests are incredibly hard. I would study and study and still only get a C. The diagrams are what kill everyone in the class. He is very helpful if you see him during his office hours. Also, you'll do better in the class if you always read over your notes and the assigned reading so you will get an A on the quizzes which really helps your grade.
my favorite class in college! absolutely amazing. it was worth every minute.. challenging, but totally worth it.
Great teacher - helpful and knows what he's talking about. Interesting material but definitely not a class you can slack off on. Study and you'll do fine.
He is a good teacher. He does the best he can to explain the concepts of Geology. His drawings may not be that good, but copy them down always. You must keep up with everything that you learn. If you don't understand anything, ask immediately or your screwed.
Extremely good teacher. People who complained about any material covered in book or lecture can be given on the exam have no idea what college is like. Guess what, 90% of the professors out there work the same way. Pay special attention to the diagrams he draws and go to class (takes attendance with a 1 question quiz, easy stuff if you read.)
Great professor! He is a truely smart indivisual who really cares about the class and his students. If you pay attention and study, its not that hard to do considering you are in college and that is your job, then this class is great and can pull an A no sweat. If you dont study, then good luck to you and your future in college...
just go to class and take notes, and you'll pass. he is very helpful if you don't understand the material
Stewart is what a teacher should be: Bright, Sharp, Passionate, Helpfull, Merciful, and a CRYSTAL CLEAR Communicator. You MUST attend class, you MUST take notes and you MUST study them. Everything in the notes is everything on the test. His lectures are entertaining and the material is presented in such a way that it sticks. We're lucky he's here!
Really great teacher. I was kind of expecting a boring class, but he makes it very entertaining. No part of the class was boring from his lectures. Take LOTS of notes and study study study them. He gives daily quizes about the last lecture and his tests are really hard.
I took him for both lecture & lab. Wonderful professor, will take the time to help you. Has daily quizzes but as long as you take good notes and study, you'll be fine. Also curves tests. Must go to class daily! Easy to understand and will explain if you don't understand a concept. Wonderful professor, we need more like him!
GREAT TEACHER! somewhat difficult material but curves tests and provides great assisstance through use of office hours. hardly any math involved for science course and teaching methods are effective. Warning: not a cake walk, must go to class, and tests need some dilligence to get A
I took Dr Stewart for lab and he is a great teacher. Nice guy and as long as you do the work he is extremely helpful. Would take him again
I never failed an college course untill I took Dr. Stewart. He is impossible & brags all the time. If u are not already a geologist DO NOT take him! I had to retake lect & lab with another prof & got a B. This guy is HORRIBLE!!!!!
I barely studied for his tests and I still managed an A in that class just fine. Just do the reading every night and seriously, that is all you need to do. I literally studied like an hour before the tests and got A's on all of them. He curves as well! Really not all that hard. Just pay attention and read. That's it.
I took him for Geo lab and lecture. He was very helpful in lab! not so much in lecture. I attended EVERY class and worked my butt off and I only got a C! He has a lot of interesting stories but he spends over half the class telling them NOT teaching you!
This class is hard if you dont pay attention in class or come to class. Make sure to study your notes for tests and look at your old test to study for the final. the tests are hard but he is willing to give you all the help you need.
He is a hard teacher. But he is very clear about that fact throughout the term. I found his class very interesting and the homework opens your eyes to the world around you. His experience enhances lectures and motivates you to research on your own. You will have either a quiz or homework each class, but it prepares you properly for the tests.
he knows his subject. he goes quickly through the material hes usualy late for class by 15 mins and he never completed the topic for the day he always told us we where behind his other classes. his test are hard but if u study everything you will do fine. the day before the final he tought us NEW material and never gave a study guide.
Take this class if you are ready to study your butt off. If you do that your cool. And if env. sci is your major than, you will learn ALOT!!! Otherwise, VERY HARD
He's very arrogant and lack compassion
Dr. Stewart is an incredibly nice man & great teacher. Honestly, I've read through all the comments here and anyone that is whining about his class either, a) wasn't taught how to study in high school because it was too easy, or b) is too lazy to study the material. he is always willing to sit with you & help until you understand the material in la
(continued from below).. he gives HUGE curves on every test (up to 8 points) and lets you drop 2-3 quizzes in lecture. I go to a public, 4 year school in GA during the school year (I am in his summer school course at GPC) and never have I been in a class that curved tests. college requires studying and is supposed to be difficult.
Had for lecture and lab last Fall semester. Great teacher in lecture but harder in lab. He will answer every question and be happy to do so. It is my own fault I didn't make an A in his lecture. He will make you work hard but you will learn everything there is to know about geology. Take him if you're a nerd like me. If you're lazy, then don't take
Although the class requires a lot of studying and dedication, Dr. Stewart was one of my favorite professors at GPC, simply because he is enthusiastic and energetic. I looked forward to coming to class, even though sci is my least favorite subject. I recommend taking notes from the pwr point and the book, in addition to what he writes on the board.
Such a great teacher. He is very enthusiastic, funny, and intense. You have to really study for his class because there is so much to learn. But he makes it as easy as possible. He drops a lot of low grades and gives 6 extra points on tests just for coming to class every day. He lectures and puts notes on the board. He provides everything. Awesome!
He is a very good teacher, very of what he wants. Attendence is a must and he is very strict on rules. He likes to joke around though. Huge curves and he drops lowest grade on everything. He offers help all the time.
Dr. Stewart's teaching is fun but those tests did me in. I felt I tried hard in his class and seems like right when I understood how the tests were going to go, I didn't do as good as I thought. His test are tough and he draws on the board a lot. If you can handle hard test then pick him but if you can't I wouldn't recommend.
Dr. Stewart is an incredibly nice guy who is always willing to help you understand and learn the information if you willing to work hard. However, I found the class incredible difficult. It seems as if he treats the class like it's a graduate level geology course. It should have been a lot easier than what it was.
He is extremely difficult and unforgiving. I would not recommend him to anyone. Hard tests and he draws on the board a lot, which is hard to decipher. Abstract questions and big stickler on rules. Don't take unless you're a science major and are a brainiac.
Ver engaging teacher. I don't like science, but I showed up to class every day, payed attention, took notes and made a fairly easy A. Tests are difficult, but there is no other work or assignments and you can get up to a whole letter grade in curves! Probably one of the better teachers at GPC. I had him for Environmental Science, taking him again!
Awesome professor. Curved tests, extra credit for attendance. Highly interesting, but a lot to cover. It's a science class; of course some critical thinking needed for tests. No homework. Notes, attendance, & chapter reading will earn an A or B at min. What's written/drawn on board HELPS. If you don't do well, your fault entirely.
Attandence is mandatory- that being said he made the class VERY interesting. I had him for global warming and received an A. However, I had to earn it and believes he does not gives out A's for free. I really enjoyed this teacher and if you like to learn, you will too!
Terrible teacher. So rude. His tests are impossible. I did not miss one day of class, took every single note on the board and from his power points. Also ready the chapters and barely made a C. He is so rude I couldn't handle it. My class average was a 73.
Hands down my favorite professor I've had at GPC. Took him for envs and historical geology. His classes are a lot of work but he is very helpful. Always willing to help within his office hours. Bonus points for good attendance. Very intelligent. Would take again if I didn't already graduate.
Dr. Stewart is a fantastic teacher. Yes, he is harder than most of the professors at Georgia Perimeter, but it's only because he doesn't constantly baby you like the rest of the teachers here do. He is very passionate about his work and is always very happy to help if you don't understand! He usually curves tests too!
He is the worst teacher I have EVER had. There are only 4 tests and nothing else. No quizzes, no homework. If you fail a test you get to drop it, but if you do badly on anotherone you are out of luck. Tests are extremely hard. Do yourself a favor and stay away.
Dr. Stewart is a great teacher, he's very passionate about his work and it shows. His tests are hard, but he gives you everything you need to study in class. He also gives extra credit on every test to students who show up every day. His notes are so precise, if you don't understand the material you obviously weren't studying.
Professor Stewart is the worst teacher I have ever had. The only grades you have in his lecture are four incredibly hard tests, so if you aren't a good test taker then good luck. As for his lab I made decent grades, but due to the pop quizzes, midterm, and final I failed.
I took his class in fall 2013 at alpharetta. Great prof. with a lot of interesting experience in natural science fields so know he is the real deal. He goes through his well made power points with clarity, but take notes on everything you do not understand. He is around during office hours, helps out, and advises a cool environmental club as well.
Yes, Prof Stewart's tests are hard, but if you take good notes and read the chapters, you'll do fine. He also gives you extra credit for coming to every class, so attendance is important. He's a nice guy who puts in interesting stories in his lectures. It's a challenging class and you'll have to work for the grade
He is an extremely hard professor. I would not recommend taking. GPA killer
He doesn't answer direct questions. He's all over the place. He talks too much without teaching much. He likes his subject but doesn't know how to explain things. He is a really hard teacher/grader - take Moss instead!!!
his labs are so hard, takes more than 2 hours to finish
He is one of the BEST professors I've had. I put the "pro" in procrastination, and absolutely hate school, but if you put in the effort, then you'll see the results. Maybe it's because I find geology pretty interesting, but regardless, Dr. Stewart is an amazing teacher. TAKE HIM!
Dr. Stewart is a great proff, but you need to be willing to go the extra mile. The textbk won't be of much use to you. Most of his criteria for the tests are from his lectures. I recorded every lecture, then went back to make sure I had all important info. He will drop the lowest exam grade, and you get 12 extra pts for being on time to every class
Dr. Stewart is THE MOST inspiring professor I have ever studied under. He really makes this course relevant, & even inspired me to change my major to ENVSCI, & minor in business so that I can make a difference in the world. His lectures are not very interactive, but he is very accessible outside of class if you just ask him. Hard work but worth it!
Hardest class I've ever taken. Had to drop.
The class was supposed to be an easy geology class but i was ready to pull my hair out by the time the semester was done. It's not really his fault. He's really lecture heavy, like you need to be sitting there and paying attention to every single lecture and making sure that you understand the content to pass. There were quizzes EVERY LECTURE.
do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY. professor Stewart is unfair and incredibly cold. and even if you have personal matters going on GOOD LUCK because he has no problems leaving you out to dry despite ANY situation. genuinely does not care about the students.
Professor Stewart is a great teacher. He's willing to answer your questions and ensure you understand the material. My main advice is to show up to class and regularly review the concepts. There will be quizzes at the start of every lecture, so you don't want to miss them. I thoroughly enjoyed his classes. Take it seriously, and you will be fine.
Lecture slides are not straight forward, he talks too fast, and test questions are worded in an unnecessarily difficult way for a beginner geology class. Gives quizzes every single lecture and for one of them iCollege was down, still gave me a zero.
He is an awful professor who honestly deserves to be fired or re-train doesn't lecture well at all, all he does is speak fast and give powerpoints for you to study with his hard test that are like 60 questions each for the exams and the quizzess are 10-15 VERY HARD questions
Save yourself a stress free life by NOT taking this class. He is an amazing person but the quizzes and test are so difficult. You have 7 minutes to complete a quiz 6-11 questions every time you start class and half of the questions make no sense!!! Truly i give him a 2 because he saved by one point from failing but NO just NO.
Show up to class even if not mandatory as there will be quizzes with about 8 questions at the start of every lecture. You only have about 10 minutes to take them. Book not required but I would suggest getting it as his lectures are long and full of picture with not enough detail. Also beware that the homework will be mix in the slide of the lecture
The worst prof I've ever had. DO NOT take this class unless you're a geology major and want very detailed lectures with details you don't need to pass the class. There's a quiz before every lecture. 6-12 questions, 8 minutes to take it...including the time it takes to open Respondus. No make-ups, no extra credit. Don't ask for it, he will get mad.
Rude, condescending, does not care about your success, doesn't record lectures. Blames YOU for not understanding. About 25 quizzes, discard all but 10 of your highest scores. Quizzes are very hard and barely make sense. 3 exams 60% + 10 quizzes 15% + final 25%. skews scores heavily so you never know if you're learning or not. waste of time & money.
He don't know how to teach and should retire. He said that he will drop people. He even told us to know everything before coming into lab because he said he don't like to lecture. He's lecturing but doesn't make sense. He yells at us for be confused and ask why like he doesn't know it's him who don't make sense. Don't take this his class.
This professor should never have been a teacher. He's moody, unreliable, unapproachable, and tends to be unprofessionally critical.
Avoid at all cost!! Makes inappropriate jokes all semester. Gets mad when you ask him questions because 'you should already know this' and gets annoyed when you call him for help. the way the does everything its like he wants you to fail. This lab was 10000x harder than the actual course. do NOT take his class!!!!
so much work, homework and labs. you dont get nothing from the long lectures.
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSE! He "rewards" you for attending every lecture on time by adding up to 12+ to every exam if your attendance is good, BUT you have 5-7 minutes to do a 10-minute quiz EVERY LECTURE that is worded extremely hard. He's not a good professor; anyone who did well in this class had prior knowledge and interest in geology.
