Dr. Roskam is an engaging and knowledgeable professor with real-world experience that translates well to MGT 2010. I enjoyed every class. Fantastic teacher!
Prof Roskam keeps the class very engaged. He worked as a business executive and attorney before becoming a professor so he bring a unique perspective to the classroom. While I wouldn't say he's a tough grader, make sure to come to class prepared or he will call you out.
Interactive lectures where class participation is important so be prepared to speak. Multiple straightforward group projects. Textbook is required (cengage) & includes the HW program. There's a good bit of HW assignments but relatively easy. Exams are open notes/open book. Easy A if you do the work. One of my favorite professors here at Clemson!
This class was pretty easy, just a lot of 'busy work' assignments. Professor was really nice. The course was set up so that there were 3 group projects, 3 exams, and other weekly assignments.
He is very knowledgable about this subject and genuinely cares about the performance of students in this course. It is a layout of shadowing a real life corporation as a team and less focused on lectures. I gained a lot of information of this subject this way and definitely recommend.
Interesting format, would not recommend this course if you aren't into collaboration or team projects.
I had him for his asynchronous section and sometimes I think that he forgot we existed. He made us do group projects, which was strange for an asynchronous course. Class was easy, just lots of busy work.
Funny and chill dude, would recommend - very open to discussion and is lenient within reason about assignments. Communicate with him and he will help you. Group projects and very discussion based class - even better if you like to talk!
He was a very chill and great professor. This was a group collaborative class which meant we had to meet up outside of class to work on presentations. He doesn't give a rubric which was a problem for some people. He's an easy grader overall and let us use our notes and online textbook for exams. There are quizzes for each chapter but they are easy.
Class is very collaborative, and you need to participate in the discussions and in the team meetings. The Cengage is what made the class more difficult for me but other than that it was fairly easy.
I really enjoyed Professor Roskam's Management 2010 Course. He is very intelligent and interesting professor. I was always intrigued during his lectures and found his projects very relevant as well. He truly wants you to succeed and as long as you put some effort in, you should end up with an A or B.
Professor Roskam is an experienced businessman who brings a fresh perspective to the classroom. He grades presentations easy and his lectures are engaging as he is always asking us questions. The homework is probably the hardest part of this class and it can be pretty frustrating. Overall, I really enjoy his class.
Dr. Roskam is really fun! MGT 2010 as a class is boring because it is all about applying definitions to things that should be common sense. BUT Dr. Roskam gives you a company to shadow all semester which makes the material applicable, which makes it way more fun. You shadow the company with a group and make 3 group presentations.
Dr. Roskam is smart and funny, but the course content can hide his personality sometimes. Lectures are definition heavy, but he asks you to apply these definitions to the company that you're shadowing. If you know your company well, you'll get a lot out of this class. Make sure you submit all the homework; tests are open note and easy as well
Professor Roskam knows the topics very well. He has the real world experience to complement the class as well. The course material and get boring and it can be very tempting skip, but attendance is important at the end of the semester. Roskam is an extremely nice person if you get to know him and he is willing to help.
This class was.... interesting. I understand the the use of Cengage in the course is mandatory for every professor, but I think there shld've been a different way to go about it. We're assigned every homework that Cengage allows professors to assign and most of it made literally no sense and was not spoken much about in class. Dirk is cool though.
Professor Roskam is probably one of the best professors that I have had at Clemson. His wealth of industry knowledge is insane, as he worked in several executive positions within the corporate world. Also hilarious. I would definitely recommend him.
Dr. Roskam is a good professor but I think it would be better if he didn't read straight off the slides. This class is heavy on cengage textbook activities as well as group presentations. You shadow a company and have to talk about current events in that company and Dr. Roskam seems to have good knowledge of management aspects.
Professor Roskam's class was great! I took the honors section, and would highly recommend it to all honors business students. Professor Roskam has a great deal of experience, knowledge, and wisdom and he does a great job of translating it to the classroom.
Dirk is awesome! You get placed into groups within the first few classes, and will do 3 presentations. He is always available to help inside and outside of class. I hated using Cengage, which was challenging for me. It took a lot of time, but my grade averaged out with my group project grades. Just show up and do your work, and you'll be fine.
If you try on the homework and work hard on your group presentations, it's very easy to get an A In this class. His structure of the class is very interesting, as you shadow a company throughout the course of the semester. However, Dr. Roskam tends to just read from the slides when we are learning about the course material.
Dr. Roskam is a great professor and I definitely recommend this class! You are split into 6 cohorts (each representing a different company) and everyone shadows a different C-suite role. Each class u give a daily update and 3 formal "board" presentations. It's great class, not a stressful time commitment, and straightforward grading. (HONORS 2010)
Dr. Roskam and this class were awesome. It created a real world environment for us to complete a case study over the course of a semester, developing the project, giving presentations, and working with a team of people in industry along with Dr. Roskam. The bar is set high, this isn't a regular effort class. 10/10 everyone needs a course like this
Only take him if you like group projects. That is the majority of your grade. The online homework is lot harder than I was expecting and takes a LOT of time. Great guy who is extremely smart and accomplished, I just feel like I didn't learn much from his class. Very easy overall. He gives a big extra credit opportunity too.
Professor Roskam will give you back as much as you put into his class. He offers an "extra-credit group" to students who want more of a challenge, and I suggest you take it. Beyond the grades, Roskam provides meaningful insights into business as he lived it. He is eager to help and is an invaluable resource / mentor both inside and outside of class
Dr. Roskam is the man. If you are serious about your career, he will be a huge help for you. Great connection, great mentor, couldn't recommend him enough.
Dr. Roskam and the MGT 4970 class has been motivating, exciting, and useful beyond just the classroom. His teaching and advice towards consulting has taught me more about industry and future job opportunities than any other class. I have (and will continue) to promote and suggest this class to other students!
Dr. Roskam is an amazing mentor and teacher. This class is a great way to delve into what it is like to be a consultant. However, the class is very challenging- the bar is high. Everything is a group project and it can be difficult to coordinate schedules. Also, the class only meets once a week but for 2 hours, which is brutal.
Dr. Roskam is the best instructor/mentor that I've had. He has a heart for students, and it shows in the time he puts in outside of class time to have genuine conversations with students and his continuous efforts to improve the class. He also challenges students to think unconventionally, and while the class is intensive, it is invaluable.
Dr. Roskam is awesome. This is such a unique class/set of classes. They prepare you for the real world and specifically this semester we are working with companies in the Clemson area, so our client engagement is high. Dr. Roskam puts so much work into our class, so we can get the most out of it. He and the class are great
Professor Roskams class has been very beneficial to me in learning about the Consulting world and deepening my knowledge on the subject. Professor Roskam cares about the students in his class and is very accessible outside of class in regard to the students class success and career success.
Dr. Roskam is a great teacher and mentor. Through hands-on experience, he offers an unparalleled introduction to the consulting career path. He truly cares about his students and accelerating their career. This class is great if you are at all interested in consulting!
The honors section of this class is much different than regualr lectures with 100+ students. He takes the honos class much more serious as far as having group discussions, presentations, and meetings. Great class, with lots of useful knowledge, regardless of major.
Had him for the honors section. Your class is primarily determined by presentations and tests. The tests are easy, online, and open notes. The projects need to be prepared for but aren't difficult as long as you are paying attention to in-class lectures. Great professor and has a very interesting background.
Class fairly large and thus most communication will be directed to TA's. Content feels like AP Psych part 2 and there is a lot of busy work you have to do in Cengage. There's 3 exams you take on your own and a final u can exempt. Group collab MATTERS. Roskam tends to read off premade slides but knows what he's talking about. Good class!
Dirk is one of the best professor's that I have had during my time at Clemson. He is super caring for his students and genuinely wants each of them to do their best and will help along the way. The projects are for the honors section and for extra credit and helps towards your understanding of the material. Take him for any management class!
Prof. Roskam is a cool guy. His background is so interesting. He uses group projects which I really like because he gives productive feedback. Class is based on 3-4 open note tests that are relatively easy. Homework is annoying but manageable.
Professor Roskam is a MUST TAKE! He uses real world concepts to lecture information. He has some really cool experience in law, and is easily accessible after class, and responds to emails quickly. You can tell he wants to truly help his students, and cares about their future.
Very different style of learning if you do the extra credit, but you learn a lot. Prof Roskam is a cool guy.
Walks in on the first day of class with long slick back hair, a big watch, and his Fiji water and the first sentence was "I love money," which set the tone for the semester. Don't mistake his confidence for arrogance as he has a lot of experience and is more than willing to help students with anything. Great professor. Shoutout to Mrs. Roskam.
Dr. Roskam is a great and knowledgeable professor who exposed me to the world of consulting. My skillset expanded dramatically thanks to the discussions he led along with the guest speakers and semester long project. I was also able to get connected with partner-level consultants and big time firms, which helped me secure job opportunities.
He is such a great teacher! Note: he never lets class out early even if he finishes the lectures. He gives the opportunity to sign up for extra credit but as long as your willing to put in time & effort for the assignments you shouldn't need it. Exams are untimed & open note. Extra credit will take atleast one extra hour of time per week.
Would 100% take him again. He turned a required class into one of my favorites through the way he teaches. Super knowledgable, accessible, and always willing to connect on anything from school to career possibilities. If you have the opportunity, take his class.
Took him for Mgt2010 and loved him so much I took his consulting course. Connected my group with multiple professionals who helped us through our projects, and designed the class in a way that made you want to go. Felt more like a workplace than a classroom, and I applied what I learned in my internship that summer.
I took the honors section of MGT 2010 with Professor Roskam, he is very kind and has a lot of experience. Difficulty really depends on what you put into the class, if you want to gain a lot of knowledge and skills that easily translate into real life scenarios this is the class for you. You work in teams all semester shadowing companies, lots of HW
Mr. Roskam was a great professor in my HON MGT 2010. The honors section specifically focused on the group projects for the organizations we were shadowing. The other homework assignments were not necessarily challenging, but time-consuming. It was not as easy as some make it out to be, but it was valuable because of the learning style.
This course has significantly impacted my development as a student, thanks to Dr. Roskam's dedication to preparing future consulting leaders. The project work is challenging but highly beneficial. You work with real companies as student consultants through experiential learning. I highly recommend this course or any taught by Dirk Roskam.
No other teacher or class will be better at helping you to get a great job after college or to be well prepared to enter into the workforce and be successful. Dirk cares about the students and helping them so much more than any other teacher, and it's a huge help for everyone.
This class was my favorite college course by far. The mentorship from Professor Roskam provided real-world problem-solving and hands-on learning. We took trips and connected with diverse professionals in the field. We worked on actual consulting projects, which allowed me to develop essential skills for my future career.
Dr. Roskam is a great mentor. He is always accessible outside of class and sacrifices much time to invest in students. The class requires a lot of work, but nothing too overwhelming or unreasonable. Haven't taken a better and more interactive class at Clemson.
This course offers the unique opportunity to partner with real companies and tackle real-world consulting projects, allowing students to apply what they learned in the classroom to actual business challenges. The hands-on experience, combined with valuable feedback from Professor Roskam, made it an incredibly practical and rewarding course.
This class was the most unique I have taken at Clemson. The typical effort you would put toward memoization in other courses is redirected to practical, real-world scenarios that prepare you for post-grad. Loved all of the opportunities to meet with professionals who have been in industry for a long time. Put in effort, and you will do great.
Grade for this class is made up primarily through homework assignments and exams conducted through Cengage. Great professor, makes a solid effort to take what would be kind of cboring material into an interactive and useful class experience. Lots of group discussion.
Lectures every class but power points are posted on canvas. Most grades come from homework and exams on cengage.
Overall great class that helps give a broad understanding about the business world from a management perspective. There wasn't an excessive amount of homework and there were lots of opportunities for discussion about real world events in class.
If there's any professor at Clemson I'd take again, it's Dirk. He taught like it was real life, managing your shadowed company and the decisions you and your team make. Good amount of presentations, and long lectures. Homework is just discussion posts and some book work, but it gives you understanding for the decisions you make with your company.
The class is set up like you're on a real world management team. Participation and attendance is incredibly important. The way Dr. Roskam runs class can be daunting at times but I definitely learned way more than I would have if it was all lecture-based. He has a ton of experience and knowledge and is happy to be a resource for his students.
Great take on mgt 2010 where you get to work on a group project shadowing a company with heavy emphasis on group presentations. Gives great feedback and if you put effort into class you will do well!
Professor Roskam is one of the best teachers I've had. The class is set up like a real management team and you shadow a company for the semester in groups. The tests are online and open book and the class should be an easy a. There are 3 group presentations but as long as you put in some type of effort you will be fine.
Professor Roskam was a good teacher to take for this class. The stuff you learn actually helps you in the future and the tests are online and open note. He splits everyone up in companies based on what you wanna do in the future and you act as the companies management team. Definitely take him! It is very easy to do well and you actually learn
Professor Roskam is a nice and fair guy who cares about making sure his students learn. Table groups are assigned early and you stay with these groups all semester and do 3 presentations with them. Exams are open note and remote. I would 100% take him again and he is very easy to reach.
Dirks is a cool dude. He is like the friendly uncle you want to talk to at the family reunion. He has lots of experience and is willing to help, the weekly Cengage assignments will be a little time-consuming and monotonous, but not too bad. Take this class, you'll enjoy it.
Overall, this class was great. We all got assigned a company to model in a group the whole semester so that was awesome. Lots of application to better understand the concepts. Groups get assigned, so focus on building professional relationships with all of them and work hard on presentations and you will be good. Homework is lethal though.
Overall, this class was great. We all got assigned a company to model in a group the whole semester so that was awesome. Lots of application to better understand the concepts. Great class! Very different from the other management classes, but I would definitely recommend taking this section. Dr. Roskam is very knowledgeable, and the class setup was great. Cengage is sometimes annoying but not hard to do well on the assignments.
Dr. Roskam's management class is very different from others due to the group/business team aspect. I enjoyed this aspect, and I believe it has helped me understand the foundations of management. I definitely recommend it, and I enjoyed working on the class assignments the only bad thing was the Cengage.
You're in groups and assigned a company to shadow for the semester. During the semester you do presentations based on the company. You HAVE to vote someone as the worst member and they get a shitty grade. This results in selfishness and people scrambling to do more work than others and steal parts assigned to other people. Good idea poor execution.
Fantastic professor and well-structured class. However, the long homework assignments feel somewhat unnecessary for actual learning. The exams are also quite lengthy—the first one had 75 questions and took a significant amount of time. If he adjusted these aspects, the class would be perfect!
He is a great professor! You are in groups after the first 2 classes based on a company. This company will be the company you shadow the whole semester. The homework is long and so are the tests (both question wise) but I don't think that they take too long. I really have enjoyed this class.
Dr. Roskam is an honest professor who values collaborative and experiential learning. Although weekly homework is assigned, he emphasizes a semester-long group project where students shadow an executive at an assigned company. Despite vague presentation instructions, he offers review sessions for extra credit and gives generous grading flexibility.
You shadow a company in a group all semester. If your company has limited news it gets boring fast. The 1st half of class discusses current events and the 2nd half is him lecturing (word for word from the textbook.) He's nice, it's just not my preferred class style. Also a ton of hw, but the exams are easy & he grades presentations leniently.
The most impactful course I've taken at Clemson. A year-long consulting engagement with a real client that covers the full project lifecycle, giving you an understanding of management consulting. Client site visits and travel opportunities (we did Orlando and Mexico City) are used to bring perspective and support your engagement. Highly recommend.
Dirk is 100% the most influential teacher I have had at Clemson, and this course is unlike any I have ever taken. We have been working on a real-world year-long project with Titan Farms. The class is incredibly engaging and you need to be invested to succeed. But you get to go places like Mexico City, Orlando, and Winnipeg.
Easily a top-3 professor I've had at Clemson. His leadership advanced management consulting helps change the way you think about business and professional relationships and I can't recommend this course enough. He exposes you to great experiences, from working with companies like Deloitte and Titan Farms to business travel to Orlando and Mexico.
I am beyond grateful for the opportunity I've had to learn from Dr. Roskam. He is, by far, my favorite professor and has been a phenomenal mentor. Apart from being a professor, Dirk is exceptionally supportive and a great friend, professor, and mentor. This semester, we're doing a project with Grant Thornton and Milliken.
This consulting class has been an incredible experience since August 2025. Partnering with Grant Thornton and working with Milliken has provided real-world consulting skills. The professor genuinely cares about student success and career growth. The hands-on projects and networking opportunities have been invaluable. Highly recommend!
The consulting class has given me the most out of any course at Clemson. The real world experience of working on an engagement for titan farms while being mentored by Deloitte has proved to be invaluable. In every interview I have leveraged my experiences to answer most any question. Overall the real world experience has prepared me for a career.
Structures the class differently than most professors; you will spend the semester with a group as a "management team" and keep up to date on current events at a company, give presentations on these events, and connect it all to course content. Exams are open note.
He's one of the best business professors at Clemson. Take him if you can! Initially, we created a dream resumé, and he split the class into groups with aligned interests. I shadowed Waymo (Google autonomous driving project). He explains the content very well, gives really good feedback on presentations, and even brings executives to class. 10/10
Great class, super interesting format, you spend the entire class working with a group of students to shadow a company. Lots of homework, but it is the design of the class and not up to him. Lectures are interesting, and I honestly learned a lot, he has a lot of industry experience. Honors section is really good, but he does have high expectations.
Dr. Roskam has created such a unique program with this class. It aims to give students insight to business challenges in the real world, unlike any other class on Clemson's campus. The class is driven by group collaboration and participation from all students. This is not simply a typical class, rather it is an experience!
Dr.Roskam is an amazing professor who genuinely cares about his students.I took the honors section of this class and thoroughly enjoyed it.The whole class you are shadowing a company in a group and have to make presentations based on what is going on in current events of the company and what is going on in the online textbook.Definitely recommended
A unique experience, nothing else like this course at Clemson University or anywhere else in the US. Had the opportunity to network with industry professionals at Grant Thornton, Deloitte, Bain, other firms, and a wide array of large enterprises. Learned everything about Consulting, networking, presenting, and so much real world skills.
This is my favorite class I have taken at Clemson so far, all because of Roskam!! Throughout the semester, my group was able to shadow LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy). We kept up to date on current events and gave 3 presentations throughout the semester about our company. Roskam is big on experiential learning, and it led to me learning so much.
Amazing professor and class. I have learned so much more than I thought I would've coming into this class. The class is a great preparer for the real world and teaches you how to work well in business. Professor Roskam is an amazing resource and haven't met another professor more passionate about teaching. I really appreciate him and this class!
Dr. Roskam is a very knowledgeable and caring professor who is always willing to help. The class has an honor section so you have to be prepared but it is an enjoyable experience and you will be better prepared for the business world after taking this class and you will receive a lot of important knowledge that will help you a lot in the real world
Professor Roskam was very knowledgeable. There were a lot of assignments in a small amount of time because I took this course during the summer, but it was manageable. The simulation was tricky, but he allowed us to work in groups if we wanted. He really cares about student success and is willing to work with you if you show effort and quality work
Dr. Roskam was a great professor. He is funny and easy going. I took this class over the summer and he made it as organized as possible! If you have the opportunity I highly recommend taking him for any class that he offers. Just make sure to do the work and put in a little effort and you will succeed.
Dr. Roskam does an incredible job preparing you for real world consulting situations. The course is designed for you to work in the multidisciplinary cohort mentored by consulting firms who are fully committed to preparing you to excel in industry settings. I am working on a team with EY mentors, working on an M&A between two banks.
This semester, I've gained valuable insight into how consulting firms approach banking acquisitions. Under Dirk's guidance and through bi-weekly meetings with EY consultants, I've learned how real firms tackle complex challenges. These experiences have deepened my understanding and prepared me to step confidently into the workforce.
Dr. Roskam is a wonderful resource for any student looking to break into Consulting. The course is designed around working in groups with real-world firms such as EY and Deloitte on consulting engagements. This semester, my team is working through the M&A of 2 banks with mentorship from 8+ EY consultants, gaining connections and experience.
One of the best profesors at Clemson. Looking forward to have him again. Do your homework, read you syllabus and get ready to learn.
Professor Roskam brings valuable real-world experience that challenges students to think critically and approach problems like professionals. Instead of simply providing answers, he encourages us to find our own solutions and think proactively, which has made the class both engaging and practical for real business situations.
Great opportunity to combine classroom business knowledge into a real-world case example. Tasked with evaluating the governance, regulatory, and ethical challenges that a doctor might face as they explore opening a concierge medicine practice. Work in group to evaluated if created such practice in CA or SC is appealing.
Dr. Roskam genuinely pours into his students. His consulting initiative mirrors real-world work—teams tackle cases, present, and get mentorship from major firms. He's focused on growth and careers, gives actionable feedback, and runs an engaging, high-value class. One of Clemson's best.
Best professor Ive had at Clemson so far. One of the only classes I've actually learned real world experience in and it has helped so much. Every management class should be taught this way. Would take again if I could. It was mostly based on presentations and as long as you did the work you did well. He also always gave us feedback which I loved
Professor Roskam is a very organized professor and clearly wants every student of his to succeed. The way his course is styled is so impactful because it puts the students in the shoes of specific companies which helps you apply class content into real world scenarios. I would 100% take this course again.
Best academic experience I've had at Clemson! Includes weekly class taught by industry professionals (EY, Thought Logic, Deloitte, etc), small-group teams working on a semester long business problem and real-world consulting experience. If you have ANY interest in consulting or getting ready for a career after college, this class is for you.
This class was very different than normal, but I learned way more. Dirk is very experienced and was one of the most knowledgeable professors that I've had. In this class you shadow a company for the semester and work with a group for presentations and talking about current events every class. Takes a little work but very manageable.
Dr. Roskam is incredible! I took the Honors section and its my favorite class of all time. All exams are online and the course is structured around shadowing a real-world company which is honestly the best possible way for it to be set up. Dr. Roskam is genuinely one of the best professors at clemson and I can't speak highly enough about him.
Professor Roskam is one of my favorite teachers at Clemson. His class is structured so you work in groups and shadow a company, which makes learning management more engaging. The workload is light, with weekly homework and three easy presentations. He also provides helpful feedback to help you improve your presentations and skills.
Dr. Roskam is one of the best professors i have had at clemson. The class is structured as a group where you shadow a company. Grades on the exams (open note) and group presentations with easy homework. Besides going to class, I spent maybe an hour on this class a week which is nice with a heavy schedule. I would def recommend this class/ prof.
Definitely take him over the other professors he makes the material much more engaging and easier to get a good grade. You work in groups to shadow a company and do 4 presentations on them. I love the structure. He provides helpful feedback to help you improve your presentation skills. Exams are open-note super easy and weekly homework.
I definitely recommend taking Professor Roskam. He uses a lot of real world examples in his lectures. The lectures are set-up to help you succeed on the homework and tests.
I couldn't find the code for the class I took for Professor Roskam (MGT 8490) on RMP; what I will say, my time with Professor Roskam was phenomenal. He truly cares about setting his students up for success. He hosted a guest speaker every class to give advice and inspire us, hosted networking events, and was always approachable if you needed help.
Dr. Roskam is awesome! He cares about his students and wants the best for them.
