Friendly! Helpful! Makes subject interesting!
He makes comloicated issues understandable!Unique sense of humor and goofy! A lot of fun!
Professor Wendtorf is passionate and very knowledgable. He understands the difficulty of combining work and school. Hower, he does not take BS.I have learned a LOT in this class!
I learned a lot about Germany not just the Nazis but also the fun stuff (music, Ramstein). Very patient and understanding. Great tests (essays and you can select).LOVE HIS OFF BEAT HUMOR!
I love his class. He's a fair grader, knows a lot about European and German culture and makes the class fun and interesting. Dr. Wendtorf is always willing to help out but also expects you to do your work. He is pretty direct what to study for the tests so no bad surprise. I got A's on my essay tests and expect that also for the class.
Great Professor! Really nice guy. Always willing to help and very flexible. I learned alot in this class and did very well. I definitely recommend taking him!
Very nice man, likes to make his students laugh and answers questions. His reactions to student's crazy antics are hilarious too. He's a new professor, but he's doing quite well. His only need for improvements are his homework scheduels and handwriting. You have to HUNT for your work in the language lab and remember to READ your weekly syllabus!!
LOVED THE CLASS!! If you enjoy Germany and it's culture (and all it's got to offer!) then this is the class for you! Pr. Dirk is awesome! You will NOT find yourself nodding off in his class. His lectures ARE interesting and the test are in essay formats BASED OFF of his lectures - easy? oh yes! TAKE IT! If you need a humanities..
one word. Awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He makes class intresting and i learned alot plus allhe assignments are easy.
Great professor. Would take again!
Proffesor Wendtorf is a fun teacher. He is very helpful.
Dirk is very nice and helpful he teaching are very involved with students. He goes above and beyond. You will definitely learn German from him.
This guy simply rocks! One of the best HUM prof FCCJ! He is wonderful in presenting mateterial and talks about STUFF that really matters and is interested an what YOU acare about. I love his film screening (eg. "CRASH" which he digs) and discussions. Participation is a plus, tests are great and easy, beased on lectures and essay format. You always
Great Teacher!!! This class was hard, don't be fooled, but he has a great way of presenting it. He is a very funny teacher. He is always telling you interesting stories about the German Culture. If you study like u should, u will do fine. Remember it is a Foreign. Lang, so it isn't a cakewalk!!
Just loved him! This guy knows how to keep you focused. I loved the European approach and he managed to make the class fun and very interesting. In particular, I loved his Malcolm X approach and learning about Expressionism. If you guys are up for clarity, entertaining and humurous classes and want to learn take him. Not unattractive as well!
Great teacher! Loved his teaching style and the wonderful humor. I learned a lot even though it was difficult, but he explained well. Only distraction: girls trying to flirt with him
Great teacher! Fantastic background in philosofy, movies, music. You never nodder or were bored off. Deals with issues that MATTER not boring painting and ID quizzes. Loved the essay tests becuse you could writte what matter you u!
Great professor!! He was so helpful and made things interesting. I had signed up for a different professor and on the first day he showed up and I was thought GREAT but he was flexible with ou class and was very interesting! I only wish he taught more!
I don't think Dr. Wendtorf has ever received a bad review on here. By far, he is one of the best professors I have ever had while at FCCJ! Extremely fun, relatable and easygoing. Take one of his classes if you get the chance. Oh, and you will actually learn something, too!
Awesome Prof. Easy going, makes fun learning. Highly reccommended and he will work with you there is no stress. You get to watch a lot of videos. I will take him again. YOu will get homework, but it is fun doing the research and based on current pop culture and secret societies.
I love this professor! Knows a LOT about his stuff and explains it great. Not a dull moment. Pretty funny guy with an adorable German accent and the best prof I have taken at FCCJ!!!
He's cool. He has a way of making sure his movies are "interesting". I would totally take his class again. Don't be lazy and you will do well in his class.
Excellent professor who really cares about his students.
Great prof. This is my first humanities class and I chose this class by chance. Was not sure about the topic. It is fascinating and we learn a lot of great stuff I did not know about. He is a nice, pretty relaxed, and goes out of his way to help.
He LOVES his students and go's above and beyond the required teaching. Definitely a good professor to take!
Prof. Wendtorf is interesting. His teaching style is a bit sporadic, but somehow you come out learning more than you thought. He also makes sure that you're not only learning the language, but also get a feel for the culture. His tests are hard, but he gives everyone a break. I recommend him highly, he's one of of the ones I'm going to remember.
Wonderful prof! German is a tough language but you get a lot of background info and culture from him! Really helpful man, fun, and entertaining. European sense of humor..love the class and Dr. Wendtorf. Oh yes, and not bad looking either :-)
Prof Dirk simply kicks ass! One of the best teachers I had at FSCJ. He is relaxed and interested in what YOU care about. No stupid memorisation of slides. Film screening and discussions are intresting, reading is sometimes a bit too much, but he cuts you some slack on test. He likes participation and people giving their opinion. Easy A.
I love his class! He is not the typical prof you see. Great sense of humor and loves to help! Would absolutely take again!
Cool dude. Quite different from what I expected. Great stuff on Nazis in films. Reading was not little but really interesting. Testing is writing but he is reallistic. Would take again and he is GERMAN, da!
Wendtorf was AWESOME! I had little knowledge about the topics discussed prior to class. He opened my eyes & he was an amazing teacher. The only way for you to not pass is to be super lazy! I got an A but I did work for it.He is very lenient on grading, if he sees you tried & you look like your going in the right direction, he will give you an A!
I had DR. Wendtorf this summer for HUM2020. Child Soldiers through out history. What a great class!! There is a lot of reading involved, but it is a great subject and as long as you do ur reading and the questions on the modules, you get an A. The prof. is very engaging and likes to hear what u have to say.
Come to class, pay attention to the lecture, which is going to be easu cause he makes it fun.Turn in homework on time and do your reading.Took the online, 4week class. Much easy and fun
Amazing professor, makes sure you understand every bit of what he's teaching, and his german accent makes listening and paying attention very easy. Test aren't hard, just study. Not much homework. He makes the class fun. I don't think there was ever a dull moment. Definitely taking him again. :)
You should enjoy this class, some film reviews, handouts and book assignments. You can pass with an easy "A" if you participate in the class discussions.
One of the greatest professors I've ever had. I am a native speaker but this class really did advance my vocabulary and grammar. His teaching style is strict and stringent but it is for the best. If you just keep up with the quia book assignments you'll have a straight A
Awesome class. Learned so much about the Holocaust and enjoyed every minute. Show up to class, listen to lectures and do the HW- easy A. Only one quiz, one essay, take home final and one presentation.
I took Wendtorf for both HUM2020 & HUM2450 and he is such an amazing teacher. Class discussions are always interesting. He incorporates films into the lessons that help you to better understand topics that may seem boring but turn out to be rather good. He is extremely nice and loves what he does. I highly reccomend him to everyone!!!!
I LOVED his class about the Holocaust. I really learned SOOO MUCH and it was fun. He is a very nice and cool guy and there is presentations, film, and discussions and reading. He understands that there is other stuff in live and usually let's you make up missed homework if you'r excuse is real. Will take him again in the summer!
DR. WENDTORF is the man!! Just do your hw, and finish the assignment and you will get an A. He is really leinent and will help you out if you need help. TAKE HIM IF YOU NEED TO TAKE THIS CLASS FOR SURE!!!
After two semesters with Doc Wendtorf, I'd recommended anyone Him looking to take a German or Humanities course. He is the Dr. House of German teaching, except he isn't a ****. Class was always fun and everyone participated.
Cool dude...loves Ke$ha & has a great sense of humor. Made a 8 AM class interesting and really chilled with assignment. get the stuff in, study and you will be fine. Loved his accent ;)
Professor Wendtorf is an excellent teacher; he really knows his stuff. His classes are interesting and he invites class participation and discussion in a way that doesn't make you feel put on the spot. Lots of films watched and there's lots of reading material but as long as you do the work, you'll be fine. Grades easy.
The best professor I have ever had! Super interesting discussions. I learned so much in this class, things I can hold onto for life and teach to my children.
He is one of the best professors out there. He is knows his stuff. I could tell by the first day I took his class. He has a great sense of humor which helps with teaching. I was amazed as to how much he reaches out to his students and tries to help them out. The most understanding professor.
He is an awesome teacher...really passionate about what he teaches...really cares about helping his students succeed! He is German so sometimes it is hard to understand him but not a major thing. Come to class, do the assigments and you will get an easy A! I would def take him again!
He is a fantastic teacher. There is never a dull moment in his classroom. This is a class that I am excited to go to.
It has been months since I took Dr. Wendtorf's humanities class and I still think about and refer to the things I learned in this class. I only took an 8 week class so it was intensive but he helped us out so much and showed us an incredible amount of interesting media about the subject. Loved it.
I LOVED his class. Best prof I've had yet. Brought us doughnut holes like 3 times. Really helpful if you didn't understand the material. Makes learning interesting. I don't think class was mandatory, but I only missed once because I loved his class so much. Not to mention he is hot. Epic teacher, I recommend him to everyone!
Professor Wendtorf knows his stuff. I was a bit intimidated at first, but his sense of humor and how he handles the class makes it so easy and interesting. Just attend his class, read the materials, watch the films, and participate in the group discussion then, you will be passed his class. I highly recommend Dr. Wendtorf. Great Professor!
This was my first time taking online class, but it was really pleasant. I would recommend this teacher. You definetely need a book for quizes and discussion boards. He had great and interesting topics to write about and not very hard.I wish I could take this class in the class because I think he is a very interesting and helpful individual.Take him
Great Professor, he knows what he's talking about. He defiantly knows his stuff. I would highly recommend him if you want a good grade.
This class was actually very interesting and easy! It was mainly reading, movies, and discussions. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!! He is very helpful and wants you to succeed.
Great class to take.(Quizzes) read the books you will do well on the quizzes . watch the films in class a little sad at times (tears)great History stories grade A
Easy A. Just do your work and show intrest. He knows his stuff. He is very helpfull if you ask.
It was an easy A. We watched movies, and did a few tests, some tests he just threw out. Hes a really cool guy, and an easy grader. Just do the major assignments and your good :)
This guy knows his stuff! He keeps it intresting even if your not into history. Best professor I have ever had. There is alot of work, but this class is well worth taking.
A nice professor. He's a bit unorganized and sometimes gives outdated class information. His assignments can be a bit confusing in the way he words them. Overall, I liked him. Not too much work to get an A.
This guy was a great teacher. Easy to pass but challenging to ace. He was entertaining and funny as well as understanding. Had many easy petty assignments and wasn't to hard on grading. I would recommend him to anyone taking humanities!
Awesome Prof. Loves students. Open minded, interested in excetric and loves opinions (and opinionated papers). Can't wait (and went out of my way) to take him for Propaganda course in the Spring!
He is plan out the best teacher i have ever had!! I was not looking forward to this class and boy was I wrong.. He makes it so much fun! Now is my favorite class.
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR for any class that you can. He is awesome!!!!
Great class. Will take him again for humanities!
This is the Humanities class on the Holocaust. If you want to take a class that is worth your time then take this class with this teacher. He has alot of knowledge in this area and makes the topic interesting. There is alot of blackboard work but the class is very interesting and he works hard to help you get a good grade.
Prof. Wendtorf brought the Holocaust to life in class. His unique knowledge because of his German heritage makes it even more fascinating. Provides ample opportunities to improve your grade with extra credit. Also had several guest speakers. If you want a quality education on the Holocaust take him.
Awesome professor. Easy going and knows what he is talking about. Has a great sense of humor as well!
Professor Wendtorf will really make you earn your grade. Great Teacher.
He's really nice and understanding and his teaching approach is awesome. You watch a lot of movies and talk about a lot of art. Great professor :)
Favorite professor I have ever had. So excited to take German from him after Humanities. Helpful, knowledgable, and very informative.
Prof Wendtorf is a great teacher! He makes Humanities not only easy and understanding but engaging as well. He is very easy going and super easy to work with. He really wants you to pass and do well. Prof Wendtorf is great at answering questions and emails promptly too. I highly recommend.
GREAT teacher. His class is not only easy but also instructive. I've learned so many things from him. Enjoyed every single one of his class. We watched movies and documentaries almost every class and latter discuss about it. I highly recommend him. One of my favorite teachers.
Dirk is an awesome teacher. His class is very organized. We watched movies most classes and had group discussions on them. Not much homework just book reviews and quizzes on assigned reading. Overall I loved his class and would recommend him to everyone!
I am not going to lie I am not a big fan of war or anything to that nature but this professor makes the class interesting. Class discussions for videos, one paper, and HW sometimes. If I can pass this class anyone can.
There is a really long questionnaire that he assigned to the online class. Whatever you do, print it out and answer it as you go because it's hard to catch up on. Also, he assigned us to read the book NIGHT by Eli Weisel - great book but there are questions you have to answer. So, print and answer as you read. Do the work and you'll pass no problem
This class was not difficult at all. We literally watched 10 movies and discussed them after. He gives like 2 quizzes or so and not sure if he even counts them. You have to read the textbook to answer questionaries that are due at the end of the term. One paper. He has a heavy German accent and is funny. I really did enjoy the class.
This class was an easy A. I took it as an online class and did not have any issues at all. The work is laid out for you in the beginning and is easy to manage. The work he assigned did not seem interesting at first, but everything we had to do was great and I ended up learning things that I would have never learned on my own.
I Highly recommend taking him for Humanities, if you at least try and attempt the work you will get a good grade. The discussion board counts for a big portion of your grade, but they are honestly quite simple. You only really needed the book for the assigned reading but other than that it wasn't used often
Professor. Wendtorf was the easiest teacher I've experienced. He didn't give a lot of homework assignments, which is a plus because you are required to read several books throughout his course. However, the humanities topic in our class was on the 1975 Khmer Rouge Cambodian Genocide. Although the stories were very moving, they were also depressing.
I LOVE Prof. Wendtorf. The best teacher ever... He is very helpful and is a very easy grader. As long as you actually study and try to do good he will reward you for it. You have to go to the tutor every week for credit, but other than that, not much to do outside of the classroom for him.
Barely any lectures, mostly discussions on BB and in the classroom about the book. My class read and discussed books regarding the Khmer Rouge. The books are very easy to read. Assigned you to groups and gives questions to disclose to the class. Would've preferred taking the course online. Gives you a couple of quizzes just to make sure you read.
Pretty good teacher. Very sarcastic. I found the way he explained things a bit confusing, though. He's better one on one and will help if asked. The class itself was easy: no papers, only a few tests plus a final, but a LOT of useless online homework. If you seem like you're trying, you'll pass, so going to class and participating is important!
Took him Spring2016, bought 5 books ($60-$80 total). Not a huge fan of reading but the books didn't make me cringe too much. Watched 2-3 movies then had discussions with ?'s he provided. You are in groups only for discussion questions. Quizzes to make sure you're reading. BB discussion every other week? 1 book report paper. Highly Recommend to any
Great classroom experience, the professor was thorough in explanation of the coursework, and will answer all of your questions. As long as you complete the work and study you will get an A.
I love this guy! Very sarcastic and cool accent. Great class on Cambodia and its genocide. Reading that stuff is actually fun. He Is really interested in your opinion and loves to discuss. You do discussion groups and screen films. Very leaned back and nice. Loved the vibe of the class. Assignments are a piece of cake!
The whole class was about discussing the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia, very interesting topic. Make sure to read the books for the quizzes. He gives online work but it is very easy, just make sure to submit it on time. He likes to hear your opinion so make sure to participate in class.
Sarcastic and fun. I already miss class and while I was taking the class, I wished it were more than once a week. It's never boring and the workload isn't difficult at all. It doesn't hurt that he's very nice to look at and has such a beautiful German accent. He's easy to approach and that makes the class so much less stressful.
Loved his class on the Khmer Rouge. Lots of discussions, film screening and reading. He is very passionate about the topic and kind.
This class was actually very interesting and easy! It was mainly reading, movies, and discussions. FABULOUS CLASS!!!! He is very helpful and wants you to succeed.
Cool dude. Quite different from what I expected. Great stuff on Cambodians in films. Reading was not little but really interesting. Testing is writing but he is reallistic. Would take again and he is GERMAN, da!
Really interesting and pretty easy class. He sticks to the syllabus for grading which is nice. He is super passionate about the topics it would be good if more students cared too. There's also a lot of reading and movie assignments, but most are just so you have a better knowledge about the subject and aren't specifically tested on.
Fabulous Prof, Dr. D knows what he's talking about. He clearly knows his stuff. I would highly recommend him if you want a good grade.
Super easy class. Easy 100 if you do the work. Weekly discussions and the response is due the following week. 1 Final Paper and a Questionnaire. I took this as a 7 week class along with 4 others and still got a 100. He is very understanding and responds fairly quickly.
This was my first online class and so glad I took it online. Follow the syllabus & you will pass with an A. VERY EASY GRADER. Do the discussion board assignments each week, they are not hard. A Questionnaire packet(I got a 100%) and an essay(I got a 90% and wrote it in two nights) at the end count as the major parts of your grade. Very nice teacher
I have taken 3 of this professors classes and have encouraged a number of people to register for them as soon as they open. Dr. Dirk Wendtorf is not just an excellent professor, but for those who are aware of his very cool background, Captain Wendtorf as your instructor is about as exciting as the Terminator being your state governor!
Great professor from the start. This class has a lot of writing but he is realistic and an easy grader. Take this if you want to learn something and get an A!
I really enjoyed this class. While there is quite a bit of reading, all of the books/texts are pretty interesting.
One of the best classes Ive taken. Ive learned so much. The reading was so interesting that the quantity didnt matter. Definitely recommend this Professor. Id give him 10 out of 10!
I loved this class! The subject of my course was the Cambodian Genocide and it was a bit of a surprise as I signed up for the generic HUM2020 course required for an AA. There were three novels assigned and a few documentaries required but all were interesting and didn't feel like a chore at all. There was a 2,000 word essay that was kind of a pain.
Asks for a lot. Doesn't give good feed back. Especially when asked. Gets upset if you get off topic.
I simply luv his class on Cambodia. Something different, lots of discussions and screening. He is interested in your opinion and explains stuff well. Loving it!
I think what really annoyed me was that he changed the Syllabus all the time. Things would change and be removed/added. It was hard to keep up with what he wanted. Also, be prepared to read a lot and take a lot of pop quizzes.
Love the class and the guy. Took us today to a great tour of a Cambodian temple. Yummy food and music. Class is really interesting and easy, mostly discussion and only few quizzes.
often he changes the syllabus and no matter what you say you will not be quite right. Easy class but didn't learn anything. Very nice teacher but he doesn't warn you that you have a quiz on that book or a quiz on an article. You have to keep up with the syllabus its the only way you can know whats going on!
I am so thankful that I was able to take this class. Prior to the course I knew nothing of the terrors and trauma that happened during the time of the Cambodian genocide. Some reading, film watching and quizzes on books. Works with you for make ups. Awsome prof.
Overall, he has a very relaxed demeanor. At the beginning of the semester it was just films, so the discussions were easy and towards the end that's when we had to read the 3 books. He adjusted the syllabus quite a few times (and in very short notice), so be aware of that. The only papers we had were at the end of the sem. and 2000 & 1000 words.
Professor Wendtorf is a very nice person he knows so much about the Thailand culture. If you love to read and write there is no way for you to not pass his class, discussions are very easy. There are 2 books required for this course, 2000 words count film review and 400 words count for the final. Overall, awesome class.
Dr. Wendtorf Summer Humanities course is worth the WORK! He has compiled some great reading assignments but this class is not for the warm and fuzzy student. The reading tugs at your heartstrings but it will definitely help you have a better understanding of the Human Condition. Please be prepared to WORK and don't fall behind. Good Course!
I took his online humanities course and it was an easy A. He clearly outlines the grading criteria in the syllabus. Do the discussion posts and responses, you will pass. The final questionnaire and essay takes a good little bit of effort so don't procrastinate. I did mine last minute, the night it was due, and still received an A.
Professor Wendtorf is a decent teacher, whom is a pretty easy grader. As long as you do the discussion boards you should be ok. The syllabus is something you have to stay on top of, but it isn't hard to do that. You have to read a few books, but I didn't read any of them and still passed. I just skimmed through them briefly. Not hard to pass.
Dr. Wendtorf was a great teacher! I would 10/10 recommend him to any student. There is a LOT of material to read, but I did not have a problem with it since I enjoy reading. As long as you do the work, it's an easy A. He gives great feedback and takes the time to make sure his students understand the material. He responds quickly to E-mails.
Its really cut and dry. Do the assignments and you should be fine. I believe in my class group the lowest grade was a B. Read and write your opinion in the topic at hand.
Easy class to get an A in as long as you do the assignments. Lots of reading, but he picks out interesting books to read so it makes it easy.
He wasn't a bad professor, but he does give tons of works at once. I didn't return my book review on time and my grade went from A to a D really quick. So unfortunately I have to take the class again, but it wasn't bad. Just a little boring for my taste and a lot of work.
Great prof. Group discussions and chilled atmosphere. Loved the class. Learned a lot about Cambodia. Not too much work.
This was the best class I ever took at FSCj. Lots of amazing info about Cambodia and the genocide. Dr. Wendtorf was easy to talk to and I had to get extansion because of a pregnancy. Great course, loved it.
Took Humanities as an online class, there was a lot of reading but grades easy. As long as you show you read and meet requirements its an easy A.
Quizzes and class lectures are based on books read. Discussions are easy but lengthy. 2 extra credit opportunities. Final is a short essay. You do have to write a book review on a book not in the syllabus. Lectures seem long but sometimes you watch movies. Would take again.
Kudos to Prof. Wendtorf. Great guy and really understanding in Coronavirus-crisis. Extends deadlines and is really helpful. Not in your face as many other teachers who are bugging you and think you have all the time in the world. This class made me feel relaxed.
I took this class online and really enjoyed it. I like to read and found the subject very interesting. Everything is in the syllabus so I was able to work ahead and finish super early. Easy extra credit. I did not need to contact him but I know if I did need assistance Dr. Wendtorf would have helped. I'm taking his HUM2250 class this summer!
One of the best teachers I've ever had!!!
Prof. Wendtrof has, by far, been the worst professor I have dealt with at FSCJ. His syllabus & grading scale is a joke. You watch movies & write 300 word about it. . Your told to read the book ; however, not a single assignment required info from the copious amount of reading assignments. He does not answer emails either. Grade for class A+.
Great guy. Very lenient and leaned back. He makes you think and you learn interesting new things about other countries. Loved it!
I was not what to take this term so I ended up in Dr. Wendtorf's class. I truly enjoyed the topic and the books and films we discussed in class. Easy assignments!
Dr. Wedtorf was a chill professor. We did a lot of reading, about 4 books, 300 pages each. We did several discussions, about 400 words each and a book report, about 2000 words. His quizzes are easy AS LONG AS YOU READ THE MATERIAL. If not, you're not going to understand at all. All in all, wonderful class.
The entire class is about the Cambodian genocide so if that's a subject that'll make you feel uncomfortable, don't take this class. I have a hard time reading and consuming violent media so I really struggled with this class. He is very nice and understanding though, I turned in most of my assignments late but he took barely any points off.
Simply love the class on Cambodia. Interesting stuff and chilled prof. Not much work and easy A. I learned a lot!
He was a fun professor to have. The classes were long, but he took to the time really talk about German. He may appear stern, but he's quite humorous. He asked students to read to help with pronunciations and had basic instructions. Nothing easy, but not difficult. Some work seems to be a lot, but you'll get through it!
Easy class as long as you participate and read the assigned books. There are a few writing assignments and group work, but nothing too hard.
Just finished the 7-week course for the summer and got an amazing grade. One discussion board is due at the end of every week based around the assigned readings or movie screening. Textbooks are required for discussion boards. Final exam and essay are the last things due for the course. Overall, this course was really interesting.
Professor Wendtorf was amazing! Incredibly helpful and kind. Took a full session, 7 discussion modules paced 2 weeks apart with a final essay and a final exam that consists of an essay question. Fantastic and enlightening course!
This course was super easy, just a lot of reading. Navigation of the course was a little strange to me, however once I found the syllabus everything was perfectly fine. I believe we had to read a couple books and watch a few movies on YouTube. Super easy 1 assignment a week and he does accept late work. Super easy class with a very nice professor.
I was nervous about this class at first because I am not a history person, but, to my surprise, it was actually pretty enjoyable. We read a total of 3 books, all under 300 ages, and watched 3 movies, one of which was in-class. He offers one extra credit opportunity, but the points go a long way. The class is mostly online discussion based.
Not clear with guidelines. Says one thing, yet does another. Fairly easy class, yet not an enjoyable learning experience. Would not recommend.
Professor Wendtorf was an amazing teacher. This was my first ever time taking a class through FSCJ, as I am a dual enrollment student, and I am so glad I took this class. Lots of interesting things to talk about in his course.
Professor Wendtorf was very chill. His class was not too bad but beware he gives you 3 books to read and one for book review. If I remember correctly 3 movies to watch. Everything he teaches for this class is based on Cambodia and the Khmer Rouge. He is graded every week and gave back feedback.
Prof. Wendtorf is amazing as long as you do the assignments and turn them in on time. There are a few books and movies to watch, but it's just 7 discussions, film review, and a 10-question open book final. Learning about Thailand was very interesting. Take his class!! I received a 103 at the end of the semester. This class could be done in 7 weeks.
I loved taking his class!! The topic was Thailand culture, and all work was watching movies, discussing a film summary, and a few quizzes. This class is the most accessible class I've ever taken in FSCJ!! Highly recommend taking his class!!
This professor was amazing. I was able to learn a lot and his grading criteria is clear. Definitely recommend!
This class was super easy! Got a 102% with other classes and a full time job! Discussion post and reply every week. Chapter questionnaire (based off textbook). Analytical essay (MLA) the paper was extremely easy i got a 20/20! And 1extra credit assignment, NO EXAM! He always answers emails no matter the time of day!
Course was about the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia, and I highly recommend the course. I say he's a tough grader only because it's hard to get a perfect score on the discussions, but his feedback is excellent, and he wants you to really dig deep and give good examples. Nothing about this course was too difficult, assignments are spaced out perfectly
He responded to all of my emails within MINUTES. Discussion boards every week, but you only need to post initial response, and only one response, which is due the week after. You will watch 3-5 movies for his class. There is a long questionnaire that opens at the start and is due at the end, abt 20 pgs, but is broken into chapters.
He literally made us watch two 1-hour and forty-minute videos for ONE DISCUSSION POST. if you're looking for an easy class for more credits, don't take any of his.
I absolutely loved taking his class! The focus was on Thai culture, and our activities involved watching films, discussing their summaries, and completing a few quizzes. He was also very responsive to emails, which made the experience even better. This has been the most enjoyable class I've ever taken. I highly recommend signing up for his class!
The class was on Cambodian Genocide. I learned a lot on the topic. I think that there is WAY too much required reading. I also think the professor is a very tough grader & doesnt respond to emails promptly. There are weekly discussions with responses, a few quizzes, several books & movies, and then an 8 page paper & final. You'll Work hard for 'A'.
Professor Wentorf's Cambodia class was awesome! He replies to emails fast and gives helpful feedback. The books were great and he grades quickly. His discussions make tough topics easy to get. If you're into history and culture, I totally recommend his class!
This class was super easy! If I could take him again I would don't even think about it just take him. I took the 7wks class you'll have 6 discussions, 1 mini exam, 1 essay paper, and he gives out extra credit and you'll get to watch some funny and interesting Thai films.
We focused on Thai culture and watched MANY movies in Thai with English subs. The only downside was reading the movies (and I didn't really enjoy any of them). I bought an $8 book and rented 2 movies, the quality of them, if free, was generally terrible, haha! But, the assignments were easy and simple. Overall, a good and reasonable teacher.
Interesting course on Southeast Asian cultures. Prof. Wendtorf's class is manageable if you stay on top of the readings and discussions. Unstuck study was a lifesaver for review prep.
He is an amazing professor. I didn't know much about Thailand and I learned so much for his course. All we basically did was watch movies and then answer questions about the movie. You're required to respond to at least one other classmates reply. The final is a movie review and a test. You do have to read a book. He answers and he will help you.
I would take this class again and recommend it to others. You mainly watch Thai films and analyze them. The most challenging part was paying attention to movie genres I was personally uninterested in, but it's NOT hard. If you put in the effort and do the work, you will enjoy learning a bit about a different culture and do well in this class.
He's passionate about the subject, which makes lectures engaging. You'll read 2–3 books, watch powerful films, and even hear from a genocide survivor, which makes it all feel real. The work isn't hard, and group activities help you connect with peers and the material on a deeper level. Overall I really enjoyed this course!
The class was interesting when learning about Thai topics. In his class, he wants you to think hard, but the only downside is that you have to rent too many movies, many of which are uninteresting.
I really appreciated that Professor Wendtorf gave such thoughtful feedback and made the class both interesting and very easy to follow. I would absolutely take him again.
I took his 7-week class and passed with an A. He is very clear about his expectations for discussion posts, which require a minimum of 400 words, while responses to classmates need to be at least 100 words and you only need to respond to one student per discussion. The course includes one test, one analytical essay, and five discussion assignments.
Dirk Wendtorf is a FANTSTIC professor. The hardest part of his class is getting through the reading material (his subject of study is genocide), the rest is a walk in the park. He gives very informative (albeit longwinded at times) lectures on material he knows like the back of his hand. He offered a lot of extra credit to the whole class.
I really enjoyed Professor Wendtorf's class this semester. The whole course focused on Vietnam and French colonial rule, and every other week we watched a film or read a passage that tied directly into what we were learning. We also had a discussion post due every other week based on those materials. Very easy, busy work.
Loved Professor Wendtorf's Humanities class! The class focused on the Cambodian Genocide, lectures and books were engaging and interesting. Prof. Wendtorf gives great feedback and isn't strict about late work. Lots of reading, but most of the books are available as audiobooks on hoopla for free. We also watched several films, in class and at home.
