He is hard to understand and he teaches very fast.
this guy sucks
Helped me when I asked for it and was fair with partial credit.
Horrible teacher. Entire class had a problem with him. Wouldn't listen to anything anyone had to say. Many students complained, but nothing happened. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!
No Problems, Provided equations for tests
great teacher, very helpful
All material on exams is covered in depth and adequate notice of projects and exams is given. Also very funny and easy going.
Teacher is horrible.
This teacher goes step by step very thoroughly. His tests are easy, if you can do math fairly well, since that is what thi class is based on. Only thing is, his accent sometimes makes it hard to understand, but not very often.
His accent might be hard to understand sometimes. Can be funny at times. Presents material easier than the book does. The tests are not that hard as long as you take notes.
Boring! Really hard to sit through his class. He is goes through every detail... Half the class stopped showing up- it is extremely dull & boring.
This is the worst professor I have ever had. Do not take him for econ 261 he is very hard to understand and he is rude to students. I asked for help and he was rude so I was forced to drop class.
He was the easiest prof in my opinion. People complain about this prof bc they are complete morons. His exams are very straight forward and easy. If you do all the exercise he gives you, you are all set for the exam.
soooooooooo easy!!! he gives you all of the equations for the test, and his tests are very similar to the practice problems!!!
Great teacher. He maks sure that everyone understands. As long as you have notes to go off of, the tests are not difficult. Much easier than the other ECON 261 professor, Kartensson.
A very good teacher who explains everything thoroughly. Even though he has a thick accent (he's from Ivory Coast), you can still understand him. He's actually quite funny. Just understand the concepts and review notes/homework and you should do fine. I was first mortified when I registered for this class, but it turned out otherwise.
Teaches you everything you need to know for his exams. Yes, he does have an accent but he's still very understandable. Just one thing to look out for, look over your exams after you get them back since he sometimes misses things and if you let him know, he'll correct it. And I hardly ever used the textbook, just show up to class and pay attention!
This guy definitely knows his stuff. I took him for the summer, and he made it easy and clear to understand. If you know simple math you should be fine. He provides all the formulas you need for the exams so you dont have to memorize any of them. I actually enjoyed the class.
Take this teacher for Stats!! His classes are fairly simple and so are his examples. He provides the equations for tests and this class should be an easy A for anyone with half a brain.
If you already took MAT 132, the first half of the class will be a breeze. Otherwise, he explains things well despite his accent, which isn't as bad as some other professors I'm sure you've had. My only beef is that he grades harshly on the projects. I would've gotten an A instead of an A- if it weren't for those!
He's a nice guy, but hard to understand (which doesn't help when the topic's statistics).
The test are the same pretty much every semester. He's pretty good about letting you make up tests too.
Easiest statistics class ive ever had. just show up and pay some what attention and you will get a good grade.
He have to be the easiest econ. teacher in unlv, because he gives the homework that is similar to his tests.
Great Teacher. Likes to watch MXC.
His lectures are fairly easy to understand, but tends to make fun of people. His tests are straight forward which is nice. He's not very helpful after class though. I would take him again, b/c he's probably a lot easier than other professors.
great teacher, funny sometimes to keep the class going, otherwise the class would be so boring. try to count how many different outfits he wears throughout the semester... haha
This guy blows. He is not helpful and doesn't answer questions in class. Just says "we already covered that" and moves on. Makes a tough class even tougher.
I took him over the summer and had to drop. I don't know how he is during a regular semester, but over the summer he goes extremely fast and the class is difficult. if you're a math wiz it's probably fine, but if you're not then go with a different econ teacher.
I thought that he taught the material way too fast. I had great diffuculty retaining the concepts, and had to drop his course, after the first two exams. Only if you are a fast paced learner would I recommend you take his class.
Econ 261 is a dreaded class by everyone in the Hotel Department. Yes, it is pretty difficult, and yes Dr. Assane does teach all of the material very fast. You will do good if you come to class and pay attention. The way he gives his tests are awesome because nothing is cumulative. If you have to take the class, take Assane.
Assane was cool. "Nota Bene!" "Isn't it?" He is a good teacher as far as statistics goes. He was clear and helpful. If you do the homework and exercises, you will do good on the quizzes. You just have to practice. He's the best for stats!
Whatever you do make sure you take this prof!!! I am horrible at math and I was able to pull of a C in his class. But I will admit I never missed a single class. So if you attend every single class you will be sure to pass! Although, he goes very fast and his accent is a bit hard at first to understand.
He is a very fair, knowledgeable professor who is willing to go out of his way to help you pass. I hate math and especially statistics, but honestly he made the class bearable. Plus, towards the end of the semester he surprised all of us by showing us his grading system!!! Any professor who will give you a C and pass you at 67% is GREAT!!!
This class was tough! He is a really good teacher but if you miss a day or don't understand something you better get help rigth away because he doesn't slow down and you're lost. Lectures are intense, he isn't very helpful during class but if you go see him in his office he will help you out. I wish I would have done that.
IMPERSONAL! If you like to be able to talk to a teacher ask questions and be treated like a real human being, DO NOT take him. He dodges all questions and never makes time after or outside of class for additional help. Take good notes and don't miss a class and you won't need the book. He is also late to every class! Real POS.
I was worried about taking 262 since I hadn't taken 261 in about 2 years. I took it over the summer, and it was the easiest class I've taken in a long time. If you show up for class and do the practice problems, you will know exactly what will be on the exams. Minimal time investment, 98% in class. Wish he was still teaching Econometrics.
I was worried about taking statistics, but he is an awesome teacher. He teaches the subjuect well and he can be funny. I loved this class. His tests don't require any memorization because he provides the formulas. He grades on what is important which is applying the information.
Easy class if you show up and do the homework. Questions on homework are pretty much exactly whats on the test. Project is really easy. Sit close to the front because sometimes it is hard to hear him.
He is a great teacher. This is my second time at this class and I must say that if you fail with Dr. Assane, you have no excusses. This is a tough class and he makes it as easy as possible.
DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. Everything you will need to know he will teach you,so don't miss class or you'll be lost! He gives you the equations for the test. He grades the test on a curve so you have to get less than a 7 out of 20 to actually fail a test. Don't count on the group project to be your saving grace though, he grades it harshly!!
Good teacher and grades fairly i wish he could teach econ 303 or econ 302, shame on you if you can't get B on his class, he explains so detailed, highly recommend him
The most impersonal human being on the face of this earth. I got an A- out of his class, and I felt like I failed because I learned nothing about Economics. He treats his job like a chore, so don't expect to be treated like a student either. Rude and needs a class or two on manners.
He has a very thick accent and in a lecture hall he is very hard to understand. He is also very by-the-rule and not flexible about class materials.
This is a hard class, but he's definitely the best teacher. He gives you the formulas for the tests and takes it very slow, so there is FAR less confusion than with other teachers. Take him.
He was great. He goes through things slowly so you can get it b/c it is hard material. He is always willing to answer questions, but his tests are hard. He's great! Don't buy the book, he doesn't use it.
Helpful teacher. 4 Tests 20pts each, 1 project 20pts. Grading scale is VERY generous on test and for Fnal grade. (failing is 45% or lower). Boring subject but he tries to make the class interesting and cracks jokes :) Gives you the formulas on the test, dont NEED book unless you want to practice problems. GOOD CLASS!!
Not to pick on him, but he needs to be more clear, I can't understand him due to his thick accent. I learned absolutely nothing and I would suggest not take him. However, he is generous on the grading scale and there are only 4 tests (he doesn't review for no tests)and an Excel project you can work in groups. If you took finite math, then I would n

Great professor, especially for such a tough subject. Go to class everyday and take notes. He gives out a handout which is based directly from his exams. 4 exams and 1 project. Grades fairly and overall a great class.
Curves exams. Exams were out of 20 (very short). Rude sometimes. no need for book. Asked for explainations/elaborate & blew me off. Very picky with grading projects. Marked off points because didn't like the table layout & sentence structure. I personally don't think stats should b that subjective.
Does UNLV not require these professors to speak English (the language of this country)? Sitting in front of class I still couldn't make out his ability to speak ENGLISH!! He also needs to move away from the pencil/paper notes theory and learn technology for lectures for clarity and to make sure students can understand the material thoroughly.
His accent is not that bad, and unlike other professors I have encountered at UNLV, he speaks English PERFECTLY; just has an accent. He gives good examples and prepares you for tests really well. He tells you exactly what to study. The class isn't a breeze and you will have to do some studying but overall he's a good professor and I recommend him.
This class is ez mode. If you attend his lectures you shouldn't have a problem. His notes go over everything on the exams, and he goes over exam-like problems extensively. Speaks with an accent, but is very understandable. I got an A by just attending lectures, and studying from the notes the night before the exam. Book was almost useless.
Great Professor. He may be tough, but if you go to class, you will do fine. I missed a few classes and made a C in the class.
Takes a long time to respond (if at all) to emails. Forget about trying to see him outside of lecture if your schedule conflicts with his office hours. I am a senior and until I took his class I have never had a prof at UNLV give me an annoyed "vibe" for asking questions regarding class material!!! Absurdly anal about tables and graphs.
HE'S A WONDERFUL TEACHER.HE TRIES TO HELP YOU ONCE YOU GO TO HIS OFFICE. TESTS ARE EASY IF YOU PAY ATTENTION TO HIS LECTURES AND ATTEND CLASS! JUST KNOW THE HANDOUT REALLY WELL THEN YOU'LL DO FINEEEE ON THE EXAMS. ALTHOUGH, THE PROJECT IS A PAIN IN THE ASS... IT'S A FUN CLASS!

Very good Professor. He is very patient and keeps it simple. He is much better at explaining things than the book. The book just confuses things. You won't be disappointed.
If you learn by listening, I suggest you move to the front because I could barely hear him. He e-mails Handouts at the beginning. Study the handouts because the tests are very similar to it. Also don't buy the book like other comments, the book just confuses you. Just go to class and take notes.
Great Professor! Everything he explains is pretty much understandable. Just come to class, pay attention, study the handouts and notes, and don't buy the book! :]
Very helpful, especially with tests
great teacher! knows his stuff! just study the test guides and go to class and your good. oh and get a good group on the excel project or know your going to write alot.
I liked the class. It was alot of writing. but I felt like I learned a lot.
Awesome teacher..SO easy..test are very easy exactly same as samply tests..Easy A
Very helpful, clear notes, gives practice tests, 1 group(but you can work alone if you want) project, but allows you to do sample projects to make sure your doing it correctly, 4 tests; every test has a practice test that is almost identical to real test. Learned A LOT but was also easy! Great Professor!
Greatt teacher ! you will learn a lot but he will make it easy to learn nd goes over everything a lot so you dont get left behind . tests are very similar to the practice tests nd u dont relle ever hav to go to class. Amazing teacher , def recommended !
Awesome teacher - but a bit hard to understand with the accent. If you pick up easy on math/formulas - the textbook isn't needed at all! He provides everything in class through his worksheets and notes. He's a really nice guy while teaching, but gives a bit of cold shoulder when talking one on one. I'd take him again for any math related class.
Great professor. Took the class during the summer sessions. He knows his stuff and does all he can to simplify difficult formulas and concepts. Goes over some calculus, but nothing too difficult.
First off, DO NOT BUY THE BOOK! I learned this the hard way: we never opened it and it was never referenced. Statistics is a very difficult subject and Assane teaches it pretty well. On top of the good teaching, he is a character and enjoys making jokes even if the class doesn't get it which at times is very funny. Highly recommended.
Awesome Teacher. He made a relatively difficult subject easy to understand. Highly recommended.
Really cool teacher once you get used to his accent. Exams were actually really easy because they were multiple choice (easier to check your work). On major projects you're stuck though. His T.A. was useless (said my project looked good but Assane didn't agree)and Assane didn't want to help out of class, but it was a decent class though.
Pretty easy class! The only thing that was difficult about this class was the analytical questions on tests; those were at times NEVER obvious and not taken directly from the notes. Practice exams help a ton, you'll do fine if you study these. Term paper is easy if you just FOLLOW DIRECTIONS and do what he asks.
Such a great teacher! He's very kind and helpful and has a good sense of humor. Tests are easy..he gives you practice tests on web campus that are just like the real test. Very good teacher, would definitely take from him again.
Professor Assane is very funny if you're paying attention. However, I didn't find his teaching method to be incredibly helpful. I went to his office hours and he was very dismissive and absentminded. The class was easy as long as you do the practice tests he provides; they are almost identical to the actual tests. I didn't need the book at all.
Djeto is very funny even if it's sometimes unintentional. Only problem was his occasional mistakes he had on the answer keys to the exams. The subject is dry, but the notes he gives in class, the handouts, and the practice exams make the class extremely easy. The practice exams online almost complete reflects the actual exams. Don't buy the book
This professor is very nice but could never further elaborate when I had questions. This was the hardest class I have taken at UNLV and there was only ONE good tutor named Justin but he was only available 2 hrs per week. I recommend forming a study group with 3 people and using it for every test. Tests were NOT like practice like everyone said.
His accent made me nervous but you get used to it. He provides an abundance of examples which will help you do his practice tests. Oh, and his tests are incredibly similar to his practice tests so just understand the practice tests and you're good! Never used book. Don't buy it!
Hated Mr. Assane. He is a robot and doesn't know how to speak or do anything except give his memorized lecture. He can't answer questions and has the emotions of a 13 year old teenage girl. Only 3 exams no cumulative final and one annoying ass group project that he grades without criteria just the longer and more uneccessary the higher the grade.
Professor assane is a pretty good teacher his accent takes some time to get used to but once used to it the class isn't bad. Test are almost exactly off test reviews so the test are not bad. My biggest complaint is the grading of the term project. You can get marked down because of over achievers. grading schedule is generous
His lecture is very clear, and he has four tests and one group assignment that are not hard to do. If you take his class with someone who is good at statistics, you will be fine.
Great professor, coming from someone who is not great at math. thought I was going to fail but I am pulling an A in the class. Show up to class, take notes, ask questions, you'll pass. He even helps you during the exam and will show you and guide you how to do the problems, which has saved me a few times. Plus final is NOT cumulative!
Grade is made up of four exams and one project. Don't buy the book. Exams are based on lecture, and they're identical to the practice exams he sends out. The group project is easier than it looks, and it can be done alone. He docks points off of it without giving feedback so don't bother doing the practice ones, which aren't even graded.
The material itself is easy but the professor does a poor job of teaching it. Most of the class is just memorizing because you won't be able thoroughly understand the material from the professor. He gives a study guide that is largely like the exam so it's pretty easy to do well, but the class itself is unclear most of the time.
Professor Assane is a very good professor, he is helpful and makes the class passable. He explains the material very well, many times so everyone can fully grasp the concept. The tests are exactly like the study guide, so make sure you do that. The project is annoying but it is worth one test grade, so it is important to do.
Bad teacher. Only good thing is his practice tests are identical to the real tests. Doesn't speak clearly. And the group project at the end of the semester is BS. He gives you a grade that doesn't fully represent the work you did. I passed the class thanks to my tutor, if it wasn't for him I would have failed. Don't buy the book.
4 tests and 1 group project, 20% for each, but its all easy if you attend to class. no book. he write everything on class, and gives many examples. if you go to class, you can get an easy A.
Not bad, the class is hard to get into and understand , but then again its the subject itself. go to class and study for the test early and you should be fine. the study guide and exam is kinda similar.
Would definitely take this professor again. Statistics is a difficult subject in general so don't plan to understand stuff if you don't go to class. He gives you every bit of information in order to get an A in his class and he genuinely wants everyone to pass. Tests questions are very similar to in class examples.
He is awesome! Take him.
This class has no homework. It's three tests, the final, and one chance for extra credit and that's it so doing well on the tests is extremely important. If you show up and pay attention in class, you will pass with an easy A. He even gives you a full sheet of all formulas to use for the tests; you just have to know how to use them. It's supereasy
Are we following? lol I LOVE this teacher take him !
He is an awesome professor! You do need to study for this class, but he gives you all the materials that are needed. I've learned quite a bit from him and this class can be intimidating. But he's the best!!
He could not make it any easier for you to pass his class! As long as you attend class and do the review exams he provides you are set! There are 4 exams and one project! A formula sheet is even provided for his exams ! I mean come on !! Definitely take him for Econ 261! Oh and do not buy the book, everything you need for the test is in his notes !
He has a really thick accent so I learned about 80% of everything I needed to learn from youtube. The TA is unwilling to meet with you outside of his office hours, so if you have a full time class load and you work, you're not going to get any extra help. My advice is get the text book even though you dont have to and use it to learn the material.
There are 4 exams and 1 project worth 200 points each. He gives you formula sheets to use on the exam and his exams are literally identical to his real exams! He does have a thick accent so make SURE you sit up front, so you can understand him. The only way you will fail is if you do not go to class.
He lets his students use their phones on each exam and gives us all formula sheets. Not to mention his grading scale is different. For example in order to get an A- you only need 86% overall. His practice tests are just like his actual exams. You would be dumb to not take Assane. He also says triangle really funny.
Good professor. Go to class, pay attention, and study a few hours the night before the exam, and you'll pass.
If you just need to pass Econ then this is the professor you want. I went to maybe 6 classes, 4 of those being test days. All you have to do is figure out the material from the study guide and he lets you use all your resources on tests. He also curves your grade, I ended with a 80 and got a B+ so you would be dumb not to take him
Has a lot of knowledge in a limited scope, if you pick a topic that goes outside of that, you might have a hard time. Seems easy to access, but often took calls or left early. This class was very easy, for a good experience do the undergraduate research forum he promotes. The papers are very mechanical to write, so pay attention to instructions.
This class is pretty much just tests. He has an accent which makes it difficult to understand the material. He explains things in a weird way so at times it is hard get the material. He is funny and seems understanding and tries not to overload us with work.
Dr. Assane is an easy A forsure, you barely have to go to class to receive a good grade! This class is basically all just tests, and one project, but he offers extra credit which is really good!
Professor Assane is relaxed and funny. The course consists of 4 tests, 1 project, and a few extra credit opportunities. Very lecture heavy with minimal if any book use. Practice exams and extra practice on webcampus. I wouldn't necessarily say that the practice reflects the actual test, only the structure is similar. Don't take studying lightly.
Take this man you will not regret it! He has 4 exams and a group project plus 2 extra credit opportunities. His class is very easy and he has a HUGE curve at the end of the year (86% is an A-). Believe me you won't regret it and his accent isn't to difficult to understand either.
Assane is a great stats teacher. The problem is that stats is a hard topic in general for many to grasp. There are 4 tests( final is not cumulative), 2 extra credit assignments, and one paper. There is a curve in the class so this alleviates the stress of the difficulty of stats.
Professor Assane is good at explaining but can get confusing sometimes. 4 exams + 1 assignment, 20% each. He gives practice exams that are really helpful for the actual exams. You are allowed to use any resources you want for exams. Easy assignment but can take a few hours to do. I recommend you to take him if you want to pass Statistics.
He's great--funny, nice, curves the test grades generously. Explains things clearly and his grading is fair. Clear examples/practices for the exams/projects.
He is an awesome professor!!!! ONE of the bests at unlv, this class is not difficult just pay close attention because all the math he explains in class are on the test. Make sure you study and review definitions too. Make sure you take notes and review the book if you have doubts. You can go to his office hours if you need help he is accessible.
Dr. Assané is very caring and funny. He only had one item due - a paper - which was easy to prepare and write for this two-credit course. Because there was no relevant, graded work due, most of the students snoozed through class and worked on homework for other classes, which was unfortunate, because he was teaching great lessons.
He's a good professor. Just come to class, pay attention, ask questions and you'll get an A! The examples in class are the same structure as the quizzes and tests.
Professor Assane was amazing. 4 tests and you can use your notes. Study the study guides and you should do well on the tests because the questions are very similar. The final is not cumulative. Couple quizzes and one group excel project. Highly recommend
The class does require the online textbook in order to take quizzes online, but he made the class really fun. He had a sense of humor and made boring statistics examples fun. There are 4 big tests, all equally weighted, with online quizzes before each test. The class is huge so attendance is only taken through the quizzes. He's really cool too.
He is one of the most caring and kind professor I have taken class with. He tries his best to accommodate everyone even when the class is huge! He is so nice to students that they take advantage of him which is sad. Hope he will continue to be as nice to future students. Very good class overall.
The best ECON 261 class. Professor will give students plenty of chances to pass and recover from each exam. Extra credits and online quiz is a plus. If you fail this class its all your fault and you're pathetic if you blame the professor or the other people around you. If you don't take Assane, goodluck with the rest of the Econ professors at UNLV.
Hes late for every class and never gives clear criteria for anything, yet he would blame students for not understanding him. Questions are discouraged. The class is a mess!
Summer Session: Professor Assane was a good instructor. If you're taking this over the summer, you NEED to go to class. There are new concepts learned every day and there are exams at the end of the week, each week. There's one group project using excel as well. Also, you can use a note sheet for formulas during the exams.
ECON 261 is a breath of fresh air compared to the B.S. math classes UNLV offers. No need to buy his book, just show up to lectures. His material can sometimes be a little dry, but it will be very helpful for the tests. The best part: you can use formula sheets and graphing calculators on the exams.
You only have 3 exams and one final. No homework. Just show up to class take notes and you're good. Everything on the exams he literally goes over on the lectures. Plus he gives the last semester exams to practice. He just changes the numbers but keeps it super similar. He's amazing honestly and yes his accent is tough but if you sit in the front
Assane is the best Statistics professor you could ever have! He is a funny guy and makes the materials easy to understand. Make sure you write good notes because they will help you a lot. At first I was hesitant to take him because of the mixed reviews here but I don't regret taking him because I couldn't have asked for a better professor.
His grading scale is fantastic!! The tests aren't super hard either, but it's a good idea to practice the in class problems before the exams.
Professor Assane lectures the full class period every class. 4 tests & 2 quizzes per test. NO homework. 2 practice term papers on excel and 1 final (which can be done in groups). I never used the textbook but you have to purchase it to access the quizzes. I thought the class was easy and I am not good at math. 86-91 A- and 92-100A
Assane's class is not that bad. His lectures will get boring, but you can seriously teach yourself the material or ask a friend. 4 tests NOT CUMULATIVE (1 was online) each worth 20%. About 5 quizzes throughout the entire semester, 2 extra credit opportunities, and a term paper (need to know how to use excel).
Hes honestly a pretty good professor. His accent is hard to pick up at first, just sit in the front few rows and youll be fine. He makes it hard to not pass the class. Things are accessible on canvas with answer keys and he curves your final grade. Just show up and keep up with the material. You get what you put in
I learned nothing and cheated on every test... I normally don't but it was way too easy in this class and too hard to actually learn something. He is very smart but cannot teach. You have to buy his textbook in order to use the online quiz thing but it is a waste of money.
Extremely easy class, essentially basic middle school level stats but now with hypothesis testing and normal curves added in as well. If you want to cheat you easily can, but it's not necessary at all. He has a thick accent and is pretty boring, but the class is the easiest I have taken in my life.
Professor Asssane is a good professor that wants us to understand the material because it is important and useful outside of school. He is a knowledgeable professor who is passionate about Economics. Would recommend
I took him during the summer and he is a solid choice. Lectures are straightforward with many examples. He provides practice exams and keys on how to complete the questions. His accent may be hard to understand, but sit near the front and you should be fine. Three easy Excel papers and you can work in groups. No homework, only 10 question exams.
He is a friendly guy, and is willing to help if you ask, but this class was not a positive experience. We were graded on six assignments, five of them being exams. We were assigned several computer projects that took an hour or more to complete, and received no credit for them because they were "practice." Would not take another of his classes.
Assane is a nice guy but not a very good instructor. The class was VERY unorganized and the assignments are never fully explained. Taking this class requires teaching yourself a ton of math. He has a strong accent so if you do not sit in the first rows you will not hear him. Only 4 tests, 4 quizzes and a group excel paper. Very hard class overall.
I only sat in 2 lectures the entire semester and got an A. The stats is pretty basic and almost the entire class cheats on the test. His grading scale makes it really easy to get an A-. He's a really nice professor that understands economics, just not the best lecturer.
Half of the questions on each exam has material that was never covered. Everything was easy, however, it's hard to pass a test when you're graded on what isn't taught to you.
An easy A if you have a TI-84 and review over the concepts/attend a few lectures. But, this semester the professor was SUPER disorganized, and we were so behind that we were not able to get through all the content. He also explained stuff more complicatedly than it needed to be. Overall, get a TI84, go to tutoring maybe, and skim the book a little.
The whole class is projects to get you ready for the end of your degree. LECTURES ARE BORING, if you have taken stats and econometrics you will already know it all. My suggestion is get a team of students and split the work up. Makes the class a breeze, it was worth taking though because the 5 projects really make you understand what you're doing.
This is honestly the worst professor I've ever had in my entire college career. He is very unorganized, not clear at all what is expected, has an incredibly thick accent, does not reply to e-mails, and it's honestly a miracle I passed. His textbooks, notes & tests are also full of typo's he's admitted. I would not recommend this professor AT ALL!
The class itself wasn't difficult, just a lot of tedious work. Graded on four projects and a final term paper, which can all be done with a partner. The communication wasn't always great between the teacher and students, but professor Assane tried his best given the circumstances.
This class was awful for a capstone class. Lots of tedious work (5 total projects, 1 presentation), and he doesn't understand how to use computers. His recorded lectures are basically unwatchable and if you don't have a solid grasp on stata commands beforehand you're probably screwed. Also gave literally one sentence of feedback the entire class.
The worst class I've taken. Passed because I taught myself and had a good study group. His accent is thick and makes it hard to understand but isn't a deal breaker. He's just so unorganized, walks in whenever to start, and is not good at all at explaining that it's just a whole mess. He is the definition of a tenured professor.
He is a very knowledgeable Professor. He definitely knows his stuff. All through he is not tech-savvy and can be very slow at times. I can say he doesn't mind going over concepts to make sure you understand. He always connects hypothetical scenarios to what we are learning. His notes plus his lectures are all you need to pass his exams.
Professor does not understand how to utilize Canvas, does not read DRC accommodation letters, is not fluent in English. Save your money and avoid if you can.
Professor Assane was a great professor. As long as you follow the lecture he gives and do the quizzes and study guide you will do great! Study Guides are KEY in this class, if you ever need help he is accessible during office hours. Like others have stated English is not his first language but he definitely does try his hardest & his best.
The worst professor I've had so far.
Class is easy, but if you miss an assignment youre screwed "does not control grades. All I do is to record your effort" Not in touch with technology, uploaded an hour recording of him chilling then arguing with IT Doesnt pre-upload assignments so cant adjust "what if grades" Mistakes in everything, No instructions then expects to know what he wants
Doesn't provide sufficient feedback, doesn't respond promptly to students & sometimes won't respond at all, every single exam had mistakes and typos. Emailed him about allowing students to see what questions they got wrong on exams (without showing correct answers, presumably to prevent cheating) but completely ignored my email.
It is like this teachers first time using technology was a week before class started. Super sassy and ignores emails. You couldn't pay me to take this class again. Half of his recorded textures were an hour of him doing nothing. If you're taking for a credit online/during summer, highly recommend. I can't imagine doing this in person for a semester
(Updated) Prof. Assane is alright. 5 weekly exams, 2 practice STATA projects, and a final STATA project for our term project over summer session 2. Follow the STATA commands provided and it'll be a breeze. However, some instructions were unexplained and some important materials were missing in Canvas. Watch the Panopto videos! I liked this class.
The professor can be a bit disorganized, but the class is manageable with a TI-84 and some self-study. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for me - definitely check it out alongside the textbook. Overall, decent class if you're willing to put in the work.
ECON 495 is a repeat of 262 & 441, but with a few more lessons. No exams in this class. There are 5 Stata projects and you can do them alone or in groups. It's still good to show up to get a refresher on certain material and understand what's going on. Instructions are pretty clear. Professor Assane is very helpful and cares for his students.
VERY disorganized... never in my college career have I had a professor consistently not answer my emails. He gave me three word responses when I asked for guidance multiple times. He never had any office hours making it impossible to contact. I had to message the Dean for him to respond... Do not take his class unless you can teach yourself.
He cares about his students but struggled a lot with technology throughout the course. Communication was sparse, and directions were often confusing. Lectures at times were repetitive. Mostly graded on 3 exams and a STATA paper, with some quizzes thrown in. Quizzes had multiple errors. If you have the choice, take ECON441 with another instructor.
I will admit he is not the best with technology and would make mistakes with quizzes but he would admit his faults and fix it. He might but a little hard to contact and might be difficult to understand at times but he cares about his students. The class is mostly based on three exams and a term paper with the use of STATA.
Occasional quiz per week on the lectures (5% of grade, better viewed as good practice & study material), 4 equally weighted 40pt exams (80% of grade, final not cumulative),1 group term paper (15% of grade, not too hard). He dropped lowest test grade and curved ovr grade at the end. He is super nice & chill but can a bit disorganized technologically.
Professor Assane was cool. Took this class over the summer online. Take this class online if you can. Exams were simple, lockdown browser but no webcam. Group project is simple pretty much the practice projects. Get a good group if you want, you could honestly do it solo as well. If you struggle with accents this class may not be for you.
