In today's notes, every instance of women was followed by an exclamation mark. For example: Rice a. Labor intensive b. Women! Dmitrii is a man who wants women. Lots of them.
he was very boring, there are mandatory pop quizzes after every class, to measure your attendance. Thick accent that makes him hard to understand. Overall a really boring class.
He was an easy teacher...you dont even need the book. His accent was so cute too.
the class itself isn't to hard, but his accent is kinda rough. he started using powerpoint though so it got a little easier halfway through. the pop quizzes were on the reading and lecture and they were a little annoying.
his accent is hard to understand at first but you get used to it. it's an easy class but boring. i don't know how helpful he is cuz i never asked for help. he's an ok professor.
hate him... mean and unfair
his accent is a little hard to understand and sometimes he doesnt know the right words to say. His test review sheets make you learn a lot of things that are useless on the tests. Tests are hard.
his blatent russianness can make for some pretty good unintentional comedy-- 1st day of class made us sit through a powerpoint presentation about himself. hes not hard to understand at all, keeps an in-depth class website, and overall pretty easy to pass
I loved Dimitrii. His Russian Accent made him funny, even when he didn't want to. Uses powerpoint , which is good. This is the only class I didn't miss the semster I took him.
LOVE it!! =).. he's hilarious.. and the class is always interesting because of his accent and his opinions.
He's a pretty cool teacher...knows his stuff...and witty. If you're into learning about diff cultures, this class is for you. The tests are a little difficult, but fair. Overall, it's a good class to take
once you get past the accent, its not that difficult. pay attention to lectures and you should do fin on tests.
He is a good professor. The tests are fair. And the accent is not that bad. I recommend taking him.
love the accent.very funny, clear. one test was hard, but as long as you take notes, you'll do fine.
He is very well organized and straight forward. He knows what he's doing and the class is very easy as well as interesting.
Class becomes very boring towards the end. The powerpoints make it very easy to copy notes if you miss a class. Make sure to do ALL the reading.
His accent is hard to understand especially when taking notes cause he rushes them, although he does go over last weeks notes at the begining of class, which is helpful. His map quizes are easy, but his tests are hard. He talks so fast in his lectures that its hard to write fast enough.
Interesting teacher. Very funny with a Russian accent, he even writes the way he talks. Very helpful and friendly. The tests aren't that easy, but not that hard either. Read assigned pages and pay attention to lectures, and it will be easy.
His accent is entertaining, but you can understand him fine if you pay attention. He takes attendance in the form of easy pop quizzes. They are yout of 4 pts, you get 2 for showing up and a point for each of 3 questions to a max of 4 pts. Sometimes gives free points. Must memorize alot of info!
Has a funny Russian accent, which makes it harder to understand, but also gives you that mid-day humor that you need to get through the class. Tests are HARD!
he is cool, and he has a funny accent. you can tell he has a lot of knowledge but his tests are HARD! you really really need to study the details
He has a really thick accent, but it gets funny at times. You have to pay very close attention to understand him though. The tests are kind of hard, but if get all the points on the map quizzes and you'll be fine. I got a C on the first test, D on the second, and F on the last and still managed to get a B
Aweful teacher. Way too hard to understand and his tests were very difficult. Gave two projects, which were exactly the same and dumb. Would not recommend taking him at all.
hard to undestand only 3 bug test, which are pretty hard, 3 map quizes with tons of locations including tiny lakes. attendance gives u points. dont take
DO NOT... and i repeat DO NOT take this class. He is so hard to understand, the class is so boring, he shows movies everyday which are completely pointless. Map quizzes are ridiculous. JUST TAKE MY ADVICE... DONT TAKE!!
I loved his class. Like everyone else has said, he has an accent, but once you get passed that, it's an enjoyable course. His lecture include a lot of visuals which reinforces the material, and his tests and quizzes are very reasonable. This class is very time consuming with all the reading and studying, but I think it was well worth it.
Wonderful professor! Although the accent was a little thick, that didn't diminish his great teaching. The tests are a tad hard, but if you study with the help of the notes, you'll be fine. The class is very interesting.
Watch out for him on his bike! And make sure to take notes on his different saying, i.e. bahrears=barriers. It's a fun class to have a friend in. Really easy if you just do the work.
He will be in his office during his hours and do his best so you understand. You must show up for the class and do the readings though. Nice guy, he wants you to learn.
He's a nice guy and more on top of things than I assumed he would. The tests are kinda hard, but he's a pretty good teacher. Don't let the accent throw you.
love the accent..makes it more interesting...although I wish there was more time to go over one thing, he gets goin a little fast....but hey..it could be worse....much worse...i like this class more or less then i thoiught i would!
Great guy. Love Russian accents. Knows what he's talking about. Enjoy his sense of humor. Interesting and helpful class.

Has a cool russian accent. Uses powerpoints for the notes, awesome pics, interesting videos, HARDEST MAP QUIZZES EVER, but they're not a big portion of the grade. The Exams aren't cummulative and slightly challenging.
the accent isnt all that bad if you pay attention, definitely funny at times. The class is fairly easy other than the one test ive taken was pretty tough.
First of all, I got an A (91%). You will get used to his Russian accent. Show up everyday and take notes. You don't have to study as long as you are concious while taking notes you can easily guess on the Exams. Map Quizzes are easy if you memorize what goes where on the map. He curves from the highest score.
His accent isn't really difficult to understand. Your grade will consist of a few tests, a really easy project, map quizzes, and attendance/pop quizzes (he takes attendance through pop quizzes and usually gives those out when lots of people are absent, like Fridays). Map quizzes are very easy if you study. Almost impossible to get an A on tests.
His map quizzes are a breeze if you study. But his exams are extremely difficult. He is a very boring teacher, and just reads off of a powerpoint. He is funny at times.
An arrogant booger brain...
bad teacher... the reading is a lot. the lectures are boring and unclear. map quizzes are hard cause you have to know atleast 100 things (countries, cities, physical features) and his tests are extremely hard to get a good grade on. the project is easy but time consuming and its only worth 30 points which is 1/3 of a test. pretty much, dont take
Attend class, pop quizzes help...exams are insanely difficult...1 project only 30 pts pretty easy...map quizzes if you study should be okay, gives you a lot to memorize though. it's hard to stay awake during the lectures - that's probably what screwed me over
he says funny things but it's totally not worth it. His test are impossible. don't miss class cause he gives pop quizzes. and he has a gnarly accent.
He doesnt have a "gnarly accent" & the tests are not difficult. Just study & youll pass easily. The map quizzes are almost like automatic A's if you study. I didn't even read most of the book & I got a B in the class! He's funny & his accent is cool & interesting. :) Before tests the TA holds study sessions that are helpful.
I remember taking this class in yr. '02. I got 88%, almost an A! I didn't really read the book, I just memorize the italics information & bold terms for the exams. There's one major project. You can present it to class for an extra credit; I would have gotten an A if I did the ExCr! His accent is not a problem, and he's very nice. Class is boring
This professor really projects the image of an international nomad. Very cultural and speaks with an accent. A very interesting teacher. Not the typical professor from SoCal...afterall, he is from Russia. Haha.
He si Russian so it is cool to losten to him speak but that also can make it hard to understand. It's all memorization!
He was really fun and Russian, way cool! It was a pretty easy class, just memorization for the map quizzes (only 30 Q) and tests are based off lectures, you only need to skim the book.
this class is super hard!!!!he's the hardest teacher for geography. don't take him!! his study sessions don't help either. the t/a doen't know****.
He is very nice. He has random attendence quizzes and quizzes where you memorize tons of countries but he test only for 15. Overall I think if you try to keep you will get a B. You REALLY have to be on top of things to get an A.
Boring professor who doesn't take one breath throughout the entire 1hour and 15 minutes of lecture. He tries to go over as much material as he possibly can and holds you in class till the last second. Hard class to get an A in, and it's only a 100 level class. Stay away from this class!
He was so funny in class! He lectures from powerpoint, and the tests are based on the lectures. You should still skim the book. The three map quizzes are really easy, and the one short (I mean SHORT) paper/essay was a piece of cake. Only took the class for GE credit, but I had no probelm paying attention in class. :)
Boring teacher, hard to pay attention to. Tests were hard, a lot of memorizing for maps. Would not recommend him.
He's so awesome!!!
Dimitri single handedly knocked down the Berlin wall via elbow blow. seriously Dimitri is hilarious but is slightly difficult... though he does make up for being a balla AND a shot calla
Dmitri is hard to understand, says "um" every other word. tests are unreal and way too hard. too much memorization. i talked to him at his office hours, and he was very pompus and unhelpful stay away from this class!!! VERY STRESSFUL
He is extremely funny! :) I really like his class cuz his teaching style is unique and very different from other classes...
for the most part, i liked dmitri's teaching. his lectures were very helpful, tests weren't too bad if you did the readings. he gives you a complete schedule for readings (about 10 pages a night), if you follow it your fine. uses random pop quizes for attendence, 3 questions 4 points, but you get 2 just for showing. pay attention and they are easy.
Class seems like it takes forever. Tests are RIDICULOUS!!! 50 MP and 20 TF and 3 ESSAYS which you pick out of 5 questions but he makes you study 10 essay questions!! Plays favorites with students and lemme repeat tests are RIDICULOUS!! The questions he asked were no where near what was in his lecture and they are HARD!!
i love Dmitrii!
I loved Dimitrii! He is funny in a weird dorky way, available for office hours to talk. Very helpful. Pretty easy class if you do the readings. Attendance isn't really mandatory but he has pop quizes for attendance, easy quizes though.
This class is interesting. I learned a lot. Everything is on powerpoint. 3 map quizzes, 1 easy project, and 3 exams. the map quizzes are somewhat hard. the exams are okay. I got a C in the class and i never did the reading. If you want to do well on the exams do the reading. I would definitely reccomend this class for the global issues capstone
so even though he is attractive and soo funny.. he's class is ridiculously hard! map quizzes are impossible and not even worth trying on. the tests are even harder... no one in my class even had an A. the people i knew in the class and i were lucky to get an A... definately a hard class and i would not take it!
class is long, accent is hard to understand, map quizzes are RIDICULOUS, tests are alright if you study, pop quizzes every so often. i tried to drop his class and he did not let me so i still resent him to this day.
He is an easy teacher. Take a some time to study copy powerpoint slides. Know the maps.
This class is fun and interesting. He is very excited about the subject which makes class fun. The assignments are easy and he uses lots of pictures and videos to teach about the cities. I would take him again
i really liked this class. the teacher is a big goofball but he really knows what he's talking about when it comes to the material. a FAIRLY easy class just make sure you pay super attention to the powerpoints and the map quizzes are SUPER EASY POINTS if you just study for them! i aced all my map quizzes and bombed his exams and got a B in his clas
Class is super hard!! I DO NOT RECONDMEND. Seriously even if you attend class it is still hard to understand the material. He refuses to put lectures online. Won't help you understand the material he'll just say read the book. Pop quizzes. 3 very hard exams. Final not cumulative. Map quizzes difficult. 1 project. DO NOT TAKE!! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!
Not an easy "A" but a very interesting class. I enjoyed it. i never read out of the text book and did fine. for pop quizzes you get 2 points for being there to take it, its only worth 4 points total. You have to study for map quizzes! project is esay, tests are long, but right from the lecture/powerpoints
hard class only if your not good at remembering locations. luckily im a map wiz so i got an A. hard to hear with the russian accent, funny guy nevertheless. couldve brought up more jokes about him being russian hehehe. very nice guy but specific map quizzes will kill the average student.
Harder exams but not impossible as a few people managed A's. Half of the questions are true/false, making it a bit confusing. But map quizzes and attendance quizzes are grade boosters, as is the project. Much of the test is based off of the powerpoint lectures, so attendance is important to getting a good grade.
this class is nearly impossible. His accent is so thick you can barely understand what he is attempting to teach and speeds right through everything. Out of a class of 200 only 10 got A's, 20 B's and the rest C's and mostly D's. only take if you want to fail.
I would try to avoid this class if possible (not easy A) but if for some reason you are stuck taking this class, I wouldn't worry about it too much. This class is do-able! 3 exams, 3 map quizzes, 1 easy project. Attend all classes because his exams are heavily based on lectures. Map quizzes take a while to study for but they are EASY points!
I love making fun of his Russian accent and I have perfected it to a T. The class composes of 3 tests, 3 map tests, and a project. the map tests are easy peasys but the 3 tests were hell(100 pts each). It takes a lot of reading and what nots. Class gets interesting tho. He really emphasizes on the RUSSIAN REGION. teehee
The exams are extremely hard. I think this is the hardest class I have taken. The map quizzes are easy points but you literally have to be a walking globe to pass all of them. I highly recommend taking another proff.
Sidorov is a cool dude, but Its useless to take notes on his powerpoint presentations because there is almost no information on them. However if you listen to his fairly interesting lectures and read the text you will do great. Be sure to study for his map quizzes because those are an easy A. Tests are pretty difficult.
He has a thick Russian accent and at first, it's really hard to understand what he's talking about, but by the end of the semester, you'll only understand half of what he's talking about. You take a field trip to LA which is cool. His tests are based out of the book and videos you watch. Attendance is mandatory, no exceptions. Seriously.
I don't know why everyone says he's hard. His exams are pretty simple in my opinion. "Germany was reunited in 1990. T/F" That's an example of what he would ask on his exams. Not hard at all if you have common sense and listen to the lectures. Attendance is mandatory. Helps with grade. Map quizzes are simple if you study. The 1 paper was difficult.
Dimitrii is a cool guy who is quite funny. However, his tests are very hard and cover a lot of information. The class is interesting, but it is hard to get an A because of the tests. Map quizzes and attendance are easy points.
Just act American and professional and you'll be fine. Joking aside, Dmitrii has high standards but is approachable if you need help. He's also really hilarious, a little neurotic & incredibly intelligent. For those who don't have a choice to take him, just have fun with it & do the work. You'll be ok.
literally the most fun I have ever had taking a class and without a doubt the easiest class i have and probably will ever take. I freakin love this guy.
This is a doable class. I failed all three exams with 65% 52% and 47% and I still passed the class with an overall 72%!!!!!! I aced all my nap quizzes so mAke sure you do them correctly. Those can really save your grade. I was stressing over his class but I have no idea how I managed to pass his class! I was shocked!!!! I wouldn't take him againtho
Class consisted of three exams, 3 map quizzes, one projects and some pop up quizzes. He isn't clear, he makes jokes that are not funny, his tests are ridiculous and is boring. Avoid him!
Avoid!!His class is wayyyy to hard for an intro. course. His quizes are doable if you had more than 15min to answear 30 q's and if the sheet wasn't double sided.(u have to spend at least 3 of those 15min flipping back and fourth!!!His test are absolutely ridiculous! even after reading the chapters, they were extremely difficult.20+ students FAILED!!
Highly recommend this prof. Class was a lot of fun and very interesting.
It's GEOG 100, guys. It's easy if you do the work. Prof is approachable, has 4-day per week office hours. No reason to be confused about assignments or the content. He's funny and willing to talk for the whole class, but it's better if people participate.
absolute worst class I have ever taken. Dr. Sidorov is not helpful at all and the tests are extremely hard for the course matter. also grades very tough on the one project you have to do. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU CAN AVOID IT
Just can not say enough nice things about him. He is simply amazing, best teacher in the department
Best!
Well, he has multiple syllabi and way too much course content on beach board, the documents are a mess and hard to follow - I prefer a more direct and efficient professor. I took his class for two days and had to drop, he was extremely rude. I didn't have time to deal with a difficult/inflexible teacher while trying to further my education.
The class is easy, just super tedious and kind of annoying. There are quizzes and pop-quizzes every week(two kinds of Quizzes every week!!) The rest of the class consists of 3 map quizzes, 3 exams, 3 essays, and 3 short answer activities. Class is time consuming, but it can really be a GPA booster if you do the work.
I loved his online class! It was NOT messy and unorganized like I've known some online classes to be. I enjoyed the online lectures + vids. He provided some extra credit but not a lot so if u see it, take it! Easy chapter tests each week based on the short online lecture/vids. Tests 10 mult choice questions but u only need 7 right for full credit.
doesn't really know how to teach at all! honestly this professor makes TONS of mistakes on tests. You pretty much have to read the book & teach yourself. most of us didnt do well
The worst professor I have ever taken. I was flying out the country and I wanted to do the work earlier because I would not have access to internet and a laptop. He did not allow me to take the work earlier. Nor did he try to work with me. He is rude and does not want to help his students be successful in his class. HORRIBLE!! AVOID TAKING HIS CLAS
If you use your brain and are not completely ignorant of the world outside of the U.S. this is a great lecture. You can get good grades easily and his tasks are really doable. Even for people who haven't spent a thought about the rest of the world so far, this is a very helpful course. Take it and learn a thing or two about the world.
This was a lot of work for an online class, not only that but there is pop quizzes in his lectures he post, so basically you have to watch the whole (sometimes up to an hour long) lecture. To top it off you have to take three quizzes every week that you have to do the reading and watch the lecture to pass.
A very challenging professor & required you to really focus & study his content. I feel that he does make you work for it, however I found his test to be very specific. I would do study guides that take me hours to do, often days, yet most of his exams felt irrelevant because it would be detailed. Same thing with his quizzes. Heavy accent.
I got through this class by literally adding sticky notes to each key term/person throughout the book and for reference on exams because his study guides are pretty much useless while exams are extremely specific. This class consists of way too much busy work. I hated how essays were only worth 5 points. Overall, this class was annoying.
Where do I begin -- I can't understand his accent. Why is this class so hard to get through? I have a harder time with classes I like that I do with one that I don't really need or care for. Difficult grader. Oh yeah, if you see a few trends with how awful it is, maybe you should follow this advice: DON'T TAKE IT! Go to another class. SKIP. NEXT!
He knocks points off for every little thing you do wrong, plus all the online quizzes are timed. 5 minutes for the map quiz, 10 for everything else. The final and chapter tests are 45 minutes. Plus he just lectures. wouldn't take again.
The online class definitely takes up a lot of time. 3 quizzes a week, 2 map tests, and 3 exams. Would recommend to take only if you are really passionate about the urban environment. The professor has a cool accent.
Dr. Sidorov is one of the most amazing professors I have ever had. I am not saying his course is not difficult, it most definitely is. However, he gives the tools needed for success it is a lot about what you as a student do with them. He is incredibly responsive and understanding.
The Class is online so obviously there is a lot of work that comes along with it. Although I got the textbook online which made it extremely easy. The class is very interesting its just time consuming which was okay. I recommend taking it if you need to fill credits or want to take an easy online course.
This professor is extremely rude and has no concern over students health or issues affecting them personally. I don't recommend anyone to take him and am considering reporting him to the dean of the school. Do not take any of his classes.
WAY too much expectation for a 100 level class. Took as a 4th year for an easy elective class - NOPE! Typical week: map quiz, 50 minute lecture vid + quiz, chapter reading + quiz, and video + quiz. Small, easy project and 3 exams. Exams are made of the smallest details and are pretty tough, so study A LOT beforehand. Not recommended!
Most of the work is done without the help of the professor, although he is willing to help if needed. Beware of the exams, they greatly affect your grade. Overall, if you just take of the work on your own, you should be good to go
His online class usually has 3 quizzes every week. Lecture quiz, text quiz, and film quiz. To get 100% on the lecture quiz, you have to read. It sort of defeat the point of having two separate quiz, but some material won't be cover clearly or at all in the lecture. If you don't read for the text quiz, it is unlikely to get a good score for the LQ.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!! He critiques every little thing on essays that are only worth 7 points. I love the subject, but he made me hate the class so much. Marks down points for every little thing that he thinks is wrong. He should be fired for how bad he is and how much he puts your work down.
The professor was always so helpful and his lectures were always extremely detailed. I also enjoyed the pdfs and extra readings he provided us with to further understand the geopolitical situations and brief historical backgrounds. I don't know why people are making a big deal out of his accent when he's easy to understand plus he adds CC subtitles
Professor Sidorov was knowledgeable and helpful. Assignments were not usually very long or tedious, and often consisted of answering timed questions based on the video lecture, films, and text chapter assigned for the week. He was organized and his course schedule was pretty consistent.
Sidorov's class is a lot of work, but engaging with the material can pay off. The quizzes are tough, but using study tools like unstuck ai helps prep. Overall, it's a GPA booster if you put in the effort.
These reviews made me nervous, but it was not that bad fr. Work due every Sunday with a grace period given on Mondays, and a point or two of extra credit available in every quiz. The syllabus seemed overwhelming but the course itself wasn't overbearing at all. Transcripts are your friend.
Loved this class, wish I knew about it earlier. The material itself isn't too difficult, there just a lot of it. He always gives a grace day. He does ask SUPER specific questions about the materials though and that can be annoying if you don't have the material pulled up in front of you. He gives a lot of extra credit though!
He's a cool professor, but there's so much reading and video watching. Every week it was at least three quizzes and a writing assignment that wasn't that many words. At the end you have a project, but it wasn't hard at all. He does give you multiple grace periods for each assignment. He also will respond fairly quickly.
Async course was easy to follow since everything was laid out by week and chapter. Lecture quizzes + film quizzes were easy to complete but text quizzes and map quizzes were dreadful. Sometimes felt like a lot of busy work. Timed assignments for everything so def be aware of that. If you put enough effort and time into the class, you'll be fine.
