Doe is a very good teacher, loses her train of thought but she is very fair in her dealings with students. She always offered to meet with you outside of class and continues to be a good teacher after you are finished with her class.
all tests are open book/ open notes. she doesn't demand much- just attendance and attentiveness (or pretend to be attentive). if you take notes, you'll ace it easily. i would totally take more classes from her.
No tests! Class is small and alot of group work. there is a fair bit of reading, but you can get away with not doing much of it. Attendace is mandatory but you really dont need to pay attention.
This class is unlike any other. She approaches everything from her own religion, Mormonism, which makes the class very one sided. Basically, she says that we do not need to know most of what is said or written about in the text. Each class consists of an open-book quiz which is the only grade you recieve for the entire class. The class is easy.
Overall, the class was was pie. There's a quiz every day, but it's open book, open notes so you can always find the answers regardless of whether you read it or not. Material was pretty interesting and she tries to relate to present day, so it's pretty interesting. Nice and easy class. Get colored notecards for the quizzes to make your life easier.
Extremely easy class, prof is a complete pushover, daily quizes are open book and so were the midterm and final. She gives out anwsers during the quizes and gave out two on the final. You learn more by reading than from her lectures. She uses NPR way to much. Easy A, she will do everything to give you an A so if you don't get one, that's pretty sad
This teacher is extremely easy, complete pushover, but kind of an idiot. I couldn't believe some of the stuff she was saying! You don't need to go to class to do well, the tests are obvious if you use logic. She wasn't rude or anything, I guess I'd recommend it if you're looking for an easy class to take.
EASY A! no tests-only open book ONLINE quizzes..but make sure to go to class because her quizzes are based mostly on her notes. She's super cool and helpful. EASY FINAL-32 questions literally copy and pasted from quizes. If you get a B, you are seriously stupid.
This instructor was a nightmare! The mandatory attendence sunk my grade for no good reason and took my GPA down with it. I am a returning adult student with family/work obligations. The instructor ignored this fact when I was forced (by circumstances beyond my control) to request a retake. Adult students-you've been warned!
online. don't miss a quiz. all what yuo think and feel. project was a waste of time and a joke. she is helpful. her class design is not helpful. an easy A in that there is little thinking or learning involed. hard in that there is a ton of work on weekly basis that is busy work.
Very easy to get a good grade. Interesting topics, but her organization of the topics seems a little odd. The textbooks had some incorrect information, but no big deal. You'll take a lot of notes in class, so don't miss, and you'll get an A.
This prof is very unorganized and she is often confusing one class with another class. Be careful that the dates on blackboard and the days that she wants things due will match up. And btw her final study guide will end up being like 25 pages long.
She's extremely helpful and even gives her personal cell number to call OR TEXT her if you have any questions! The class is somewhat interesting with lots of information and her study guides are pretty long but the facts are easy to understand and remember. The class is pretty much about feelings and your opinions.
Online. Each week you are required to read a chapter in the book, plus 2-3 other essays. The online lecture is about 30 mins long, however there are a multitude of external links (youtube, PBS) and required movies which significantly increase the time (5+ hours).... and then you have discussion boards and online quizzes.
Relatively easy class, but the information overload quickly burnt me out. Lack of organization is also frustrating and the teacher is insanely wordy. I wouldn't take another class taught by her.
Online class. Chapter each week, online lectures, discussion boards+comments, not to mention the 5000 links she wants you to "explore" during lecture. You can be 100% sure she'll include questions about them on the quizzes. Way too much work for an online class, assignments hardly ever explained clearly. If you don't LOVE religion, don't take HER.
Online course was piece of cake. She has a CD-ROM program that she uses and you just complete each activity and get points for it. The test questions were straight from the CD-ROM in the study guide section which gives you the answers! Easy A, but quite fascinating at the same time.
Very easy Class, but do the readings. Took it online needed exactly 280 points, and I was gettin 100's on the journals then at end of semester I get 2 80's and receive a C+ and won't round up. So make sure you don't make border grades use the book when quizzing and read prior. Class wasn't actually hard just apply yourself.
Great class. Appropriate amount of work for a 300 level class. Some organizational issues, but she always took responsibility and students only benefited grade-wise. Fascinating material! She was always available to help and explain things as well.
online 321 is BS. Final project instructions are pretty unclear and the examples she provides are comparable to middleschool submissions, so its unclear what she expects. Just read the book and post ON TIME as she is very strict. We had an assignment due over thanksgiving that I missed b/c of family and it caused me to get a B. Easy class overall.
I had her class at Mesa Community and it was completely online. Super easy all you have to do is participate books are useless so dont buy them her lectures are so detailed and she provides so many videos you can get away without them. Defiantly recommend this class for an easy A
I took the icourse. It spent 3 ninght each week to do her homework, however, I got very low grades. And she is not helpful, even didn't upload the presentation sometimes. What she did is saying "Go watch the movie on Amazon and write a review".
The amount of information you are expected to read and produce is very unreasonable for a 200-level REL course. Daughtrey bombards students 2-3 times per week with "interesting" movies, articles, and studies etc. which she does not tell you will invariably be covered on quizzes/exams. The time commitment for this course is massive: info overload.
This teacher is terrible. She is unorganized and taking the class online is nothing but a mess. She takes forever to grade and finds ridiculous reasons to mark off. There are no tests or quizzes so your grade is based on how much you "explore" the material and "discover" something new. I do all of the work and this teacher that makes me livid.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. She lacks organization and you will find yourself pulling your hair out. Even though I got an A, she made me so angry. Her instructions are very elusive and unclear. Every week I have to guess at what she wants. DO. NOT. TAKE. DOE.
I can see how people would give this professor a bad rating. I would say that she gives you a 7 layer cake and you only need about a slice of it in regards to completing your home work. However, I would like to add I walked away from the class more knowledgeable about the subject matter. Realize you do not need to read everything offered.
This is my least favorite class I have taken. She stopped giving lectures half way through the semester. Basically you read a book and do discussion boards and blogs... she doesn't even "teach". Very unhelpful with questions. Class lacks structure.
Her instructions were NOT specific and many times she contradicted herself. She didn't "teach," she just posted 15 minute lectures and everything else was videos and readings. She was SLOW to grade and respond to e-mails. It was an easy A & the content was interesting but she was so disorganized I won't be taking a class from her again.
Doe is so boring, Her "lectures" are boring and the class is based exactly off the book. She is really specific with the writing assignments but takes FOREVER to grade and give feedback. The class is set up horribly. I do not recommend.
There are no tests but there is a lot of writing to the point where you would wish for a test. She is really specific when it comes to grading. If you put any type of opinion in the "academic analysis" she deducts points. Do not recommend. She also needs to edit her lectures better. I don't care if she has machaca in her fridge...
The entire class is based off of weekly writing assignments that have no room for opinion and she absolutely rips apart whatever you write. She told us at the start of the semester that it was a religion class not an english class and she wouldn't grade our assignments as the latter. So she essentially lied.
Class is based off of writing assignments. She is somewhat a tough grader but very helpful and responds to text messages quickly. I would say choose another class because this class is time consuming with the weekly writing assignments.
Her TA did a better job of teaching the class for the two lectures he taught. She was nice, but the class was honestly pretty boring.
I enjoyed this class, but be ready to work. Theres a 10 point participation quiz in every lecture, and discussion questions online every weekend along with weekly online quizzes. There are no tests in class until the final exam.
Took this class online to fulfill one of my upper division "L" courses. I've honestly had other UD "L" courses that were 7wks less work. (This class is 16wks). WEEKLY discussion boards journals. DO NOT include your opinion in anything you write and cite properly. Don't recommend if you're a full-time student that can't devote LOTS of time to it.
Grrrr! Makes it near impossible to get an "A" in this class. Incredibly nit-picky while grading. I understand this class fulfills an upper division literacy requirement, but the workload isn't necessary. Unless you love vague subject matter, do not take this class for your literacy requirement. I couldn't wait until this class was over. AVOID!!!
Awesome teacher and class! The materials are super interesting and she is great at making you apply the concepts to current times.
Unless Religious Studies is your life andor major, I don't recommend this class to fulfill an upper division L requirement. Multiple weekly readings and writing assignments. Can be a bit vague. Must be objective about subjective material in your writing or you will fail. Hardest I've EVER worked in a class. Tough grader. Excellent communicator.
Only test is the final. Assignments every week, always due the same day. Discussion posts& quiz, but they're done at home. Lectures are long, but they're pretty interesting. Case study where you have to go to a church and write about it. Just show up and take notes and you'll be fine. Need the textbook. Quizzes at the end of each class, use book.
This is an upper-division class necessitating the basic mechanics of college-level writing. Best advice: leave your own religion at the door. Approach this class as you would a history class and you'll do well.
Never have I had a more condescending teacher in my life. It seems like no matter how hard you try, all she does is rip apart your papers. I would go to the tutoring center as well as get my papers peer edited and they were still not good enough for Doe. Class starts at 2 paragraphs for each week and goes up one each to 8 by the end + other hw
Beware of the final
If you are planning to take this class online for credit be warned. This class will vacuum up all your free time. Very demanding. First week had 7 hours worth of videos, over 100 pages of reading, and a 200 word essay. Have to submit different weekly assignments in different locations. Gets confusing. It's too bad, class seemed very interesting.
This class was the most difficult class I have taken all of my college career. She is a nice teacher but her grading is awful all she wants to do is rip apart your writing. This class is very difficult unless your a scholar writer then you might stand a chance.
Yes, there is a TON of reading and writing, and a lot of videos in this online class... but they're mostly optional to watch, so don't freak out about it! She is very, very clear about what she expects in the written assignments, and they all follow the same pattern in every one of her classes, so take one and you've taken them all.
If you are taking this class to punch a ticket, move on. As other reviewers have said, this class is a bit of work. If you are taking this class because you are interested in religion, dive in. This professor is fair, engaged, and understanding. Yes, you do have to be able to write well, but shouldn't you learn to write well anyway?
Dr. Daughtrey is a very engaged professor; she is passionate about religious studies. This is the first professor I had at ASU that gave out her personal cell phone number and actually answered her phone. (FYI - online course with hundred of students) Dr. Daughtrey is a fair professor and one of the best that I have had at ASU.
Be prepared to work for your grade. We averaged 50-60 pages per week in reading assignments, 4-10 hours of videos, and had 1-2 short papers per week, in addition to a final research project. Very hard to keep up, but Dr. Daughtrey was very responsive to questions and very fair in her grading.
the online REL 374 class makes you read 2-3 chapters a week and then you have to write a 500+ word essay. no real tests, just essays and readings. lecture video notes aren't very helpful for the essays. the final project is one big essay worth 80 points so be prepared. 10/10 would NOT take this class again with Dr. Doe.
I am taking this class online & it is by the far the worst class I have ever taken. I have spent hours writing the essay questions only to receive a 5/10, 14/20, and 12/20 just to name a few. And to top it off the only feedback I would get is "This is nice," BUT WOULD STILL GET A 5/10. Also throwing it out there, the average grade is an 82%...
Just finished my last project for her class. So much reading, so many videos. I wouldn't say it is out of line for the pace of the class, and we weren't required to do other busywork on top of that (like post and respond each week), which I appreciate. If you hate handholding while you learn, she will work for you.
This class was very insightful overall. She's a harsh grader and you will work hard for your A. She claims to be available to help if you need it, however when I emailed her for clarification on an assignment she sent me a very belittling rude email. Don't count on her for help if you need it. If writing isn't your strong point then avoid her class
Not a tough grader, at first the course looks daunting because the introduction is a wall of text, but once you get the idea of what she's looking for it's not a tough class by any means. Also the reading/lectures were ignored after a few weeks once you get the idea of the course, since the papers are rarely dependent on the material. She's helpful
Easiest 300 level class you can take. There are hours of videos that she posts that are "mandatory" but I didn't watch a single one. Read the chapters and did well. Doe is extremely responsive to texts/emails and truly cares for your success. Just take the class and get the H, C, and HU credits.
I personally loved this class. No tests (but lots of reading) and only one paper a week for only half a semester. No final, and got 100% on all my assignments. She's got an interesting attitude, comes off really strong and I was real worried at first, but she's readily available for help and more than fair in the grading.
Professor Daughtrey is an excellent professor. Be ready to read and watch hours of videos, but you will definitely learn a lot in this class. She gives good feedback and is willing to provide help when it is needed.
This was one of the easiest 6 wk online courses I have taken so far. It helps if you are a confident and proficient writer though, as she can somewhat picky when grading. The class looks daunting at first but honestly, you don't have to do everything (such as the videos). Just read for the prompts and write 400 words, easy peasy.
I took Dr. Daughtrey's REL 374 course online. We had two books to read, a Category Analysis due every week, with something called Yellowdig posts (2 of them) mixed in. At the end we had two minor research projects in something called VoiceThread. No quizzes, tests, or discussion posts. Just follow her instructions EXACTLY and you will earn an A.
Her wall of text for her syllabus was intimidating at first, but the class really isn't as bad as it first appears. If you are a proficient writer and don't mind writing a paper every week, then you'll be fine. Her videos aren't necessary, literally did not watch a single one. Her final is easy if you have the textbook, as it's open book.
I'm a junior that's taking this class. It's a 100-level class and this is one of the most arduous classes I have EVER taken. I do not recommend taking this class, it is not laid back at all. If I could drop this class then I would, but it's mandatory for me. The directions she gives are very clear but VERY restricting. Quality over quantity.
This class is a lot of writing. Makes you critically analyze specific readings (20-50 pages) which can be challenging. Found myself struggling to write 500+ word papers each week. Took a upper level division religious class that was a lot easier than this...
For a 101 level, the context is way too advanced for anyone who has never taken a religion course before. I'm getting A's on the assignments, but I'm spending way too much time trying to decipher what the professor is asking us to write about. The lectures provide nothing. She's literally reading the assignments with no further explanations.
For a 100 level class, it is too advance, and I'm having trouble trying to understand what she wants for the assignments. The professor isn't that helpful when it comes to explaining the assignments. I would not recommend this class as an easy layback choice.
This is an entry-level course, and I feel like I have not received any type of introductory teaching. How can we write about topics that we've never really been taught before? When I finish an assignment, I want to feel accomplished and like I learned something new and valuable. In this class, I have no clue what I'm writing. Very unempowering!
At the minimum, weekly essays. If you aren't a strong writer, I would not recommend this course. You'll read 100 pages and analyze one quote. The material was fun and super interesting. Just be aware that when she speaks, or reviews, or edits something, she will sound quite condescending.
I didn't read a single full chapter from this course and earned an A, so don't worry too much about that. As long as you follow the strict instructions you will do just fine. But plan on spending quite a bit of time writing - typically one essay per week.
A seemingly easy class as far as course material. Very very harsh grading for not following instructions to the T. Lol
This was an AWFUL CLASS TO TAKE. I struggled to even maintain a passing grade in her class. Her TA and her were terrible, they were not helpful at all. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. THE HARDEST ESSAYS AND TERRIBLE GRADER. I would spend a week working on assignments, just to still get unsatisfying grades. So disappointing.
This professor made a 101 level course seem like I was taking a higher level course. The amount of work that I had to do for this course was more than the amount I had to do for an upper level religion course I too the previous semester. This professor is not only knit picky but also just harsh with comments. Her class was not organized whatsoever.
I truly enjoyed this class taught by this professor. Yes, there is a lot of reading but this is a college course so it should not be surprising. There were videos and additional reading also that supplemented the topics each week and weekly papers. Dr. Doe is accessible, understanding, and wants her students to succeed. I highly recommend!
Don't let the lengthy instructions and strict grading criteria scare you. This class can be an easy A if you keep up with the reading and follow the instructions word for word. One of the most challenging but enjoyable classes I have ever taken!
This professor is very caring. She is very accessable outside of class. However her feedback is confusing, and she doesnt seem to communicate well. Her lectures are slow and just repeat herself. It was a tedious class and I did not learn much. BUT she might be a great teacher for someone else.
All round the worst class I have taken at ASU. So many papers, grading is tough, and you end up learning very little. All I truly gained from this class was a re-affirmation that course hero is truly worth it. Biggest regret after 4 years of college? TAKING THIS CLASS. So much reading and assignments heavily weighted. STAY CLEAR OF THIS CLASS!!!!
Dr. D was a good teacher and the class interesting. A lot of reading and reading for specifics criteria. She was available outside of class and very fair. There were a couple student TA's, one was great, the other was very nit picky. Not an easy A by any means, you will work for it.
She is amazing. Material is interesting and easy. Tests she gives a time limit of 2 hours, 2 attempts and open book... for 5 QUESTIONS! I would finish them in 15 minutes and take the second attempt if i missed a question. Because of COVID-19, she gave massive amounts of extra credit and dropped several assignments. The workload was insanely light.
There is a lot of reading to do and videos to watch each week, but the assignments are laid out clearly. Pay attention to the criteria because she breaks down how many points each thing is worth. If you do that, you should have no problem. She provides her personal cell phone number so you can reach her and always responds promptly.
Lots of reading and videos each week. Each section, she offers different assignment choices, so you can pick something more interesting to you vs a single choice standard assignment. Clear grading expectations. Love Dr D and can't wait to take more classes with her!
I hope to take more classes with Dr. Daughtrey in the future. She really wants students to succeed and goes out of her way to help students understand the content. The content was interesting and Dr. D. has made me want to learn more about religious studies. Be prepared to do some internal reflection and to really grow in this class!
She is down to earth and will listen to you. Allows t citing directly to reach out to her.
There is A LOT of reading in this class (almost 100 pages or more a week) but the class itself is super interesting. There's very specific instructions on how to do the assignments, but once you get the hang of it, they become easier. BUY YOUR BOOKS. You absolutely cannot pass this class without them!
She is really, really hard to please. Her T. A. 's grades were all over the place. At first I thought she was really nice, but she constantly contradicts herself in regard to her assignments, to the point where you don't know what she wants. Then when you turn it in, everything she told you to do when you email her is out the window. Prayed for B.
Dr. Daughtrey was very felxible, she assigned a lot of reading but you can get by with skimming through the readings. Her assignments and papers were not hard and were very interesting. I have taken 2 classes with her and she has been a very understanding professor. Highly recommend.
I have taken two classes with Professor Daughtrey and both courses have been very interesting and easy to navigate with a busy schedule. She is very caring to her students and her assignments and readings are very easy to get done.
Really cool professor and interesting class. There's a lot of work (assignments usually took me about 3 hours to finish), but she laid out the expectations beforehand.
EXTRODINARILY slow grader. Had to withdraw because I was locked out of further sections of the course until I had received grades from previous modules. Given 1-2 days extension, and the modules were still locked. If you want to lock students out of advancing through the course, maybe get the assignments graded a little faster.
I was a little nervous to take Professor Daughtrey because of mixed reviews about her grading and heavy writing, but I absolutely loved this class! We had 6 quizzes that consisted of 10 questions based off the required textbook and 7 total discussion boards. Grading was NOT strict, just submit the work and you'll pass no problem!
So. Much. Writing. Assignments with word counts at 500 when you can answer all questions clear as day with less. You can also read the material and still have trouble answering these essays because you won't know what you are looking for until you look it up on google. Class was "highly recommended" to me by an advisor.... NOT WORTH THE STRESS.
She isn't that great. I took this class and got a D in it because I was sick and unable to complete one assignment. Brought my grade down SO much. Honestly not worth the struggle. Her TA grades simple assignments as if this is a very advanced English class. Points deducted for "missing comma". Waste of time and money. Do NOT take this class!!!!
Definitely recommend this class! There is no quizzes or tests and only have to write a 600 word essay a week! Super easy class
This class just felt so tedious. We were graded down if we used a contraction, reading reflections and discussion boards that were so closely monitored it felt like I was in kindergarten. She is very sterile, not much good energy or support. Graded on such menial things that it made me resent the class and any material that came with it.
I took several of Dr. Daughtrey’s classes (REL 101, 205, 374, & 390), and enjoyed each one. She cares about her students & their success. She is understanding and will help in any way she can. There are quite a few writing assignments in many of her classes, but those classes are generally categorized as literacy and critical inquiry.
I genuinely believe this professor has serious issues. She loves to send multiple paragraphs for each assignment on what is expected, but refuses to give any feedback on the grading of the assignments. She's all for the student's success as long as it isn't direct. I do not recommend taking this professor unless you are fine with a psychotic teach.
Signed up for REL390 to cover GA and HU credit. Truly regret it. Prof talks about how we need to "read like grad students", does not accept any late work, suggests we text her(?), and we have to use multiple online applications that cost more out of pocket. We have to subscribe to CampusKnot and create a PackBack account. Not a fan, withdrawing
Dr. Daughtrey seems intense at first because her directions for assignments are very precise but the instructions are clear. Dr. Daughtrey is big on formatting and she uses Chicago full note which is a little annoying, but I recommend using Zotero. She is a fair grader and easy to contact.
Atrocious course organization, every assignment leads to the syllabus page teaching you how to sign up for the TWO required online discussion forums. Seriously? That's what canvas is for. Packback (~$50) and CampusKnot(~$19) subscriptions are required for the semester for every. single. assignment. Would absolutely not take this course again.
I still don't understand what I was supposed to learn in the class and honestly got nothing out of it. She sent out an emailing telling us to read like a grad student which basically told us to skim the reading material. The use of Packback made everything clunky and very confusing. Overall an easy A though so there's that
only take if youre genuinely interested
The material was extremely interesting and the category analyses were difficult, yet these assignments challenged me to think very specifically about the material while also providing room for a true, independent analysis. Definitely recommend this course to any student interested in both history and religion. A great combination of the two.
Dr. Daughtrey was kind and I could tell she cares about her students. She incorporated an addition to the class that was a little confusing called "Packback" and didn't explain it super well, which caused some issues. But she took responsibility for this and was really gracious about extending deadlines and giving credit.
Dr. D's class is based on weekly writing assignments that are at least 600 words long in total, so don't take this class if you don't want to write. I think it helps if you are actually interested in the topic of Religion in America. My major complaint is that Dr. D was not super accessible by email.
One of the hardest classes I've taken in terms of material/HW. Had to spend a lot of time on homework each week. In total, there were (5) 500+ word Analysis' and (4) discussions w/1 peer response each. Was given random extra credit on a well done piece tho. Even w/ the HW load, Dr. D is a great prof and I looked for another class by her.
She is amazing. Painful class, but I would take anything taught by her. She is interesting and understanding. You can get by w/o the textbook even though it says required. I am a science major, but will likely seek her out to fill the remainder of my humanities credits.
Professor Daughtrey is AMAZING. She is caring, organized, and an easy grader. She cares about what she teaches and is there for you, the work is also very easy and interesting to learn about. AI graded discussion posts and such a comfortable space to share your thoughts. Just do your work and you'll get an A, easy.
Professor Daughtrey is clearly so caring, she is always available to help and answer any questions. This class is fairly easy, you can find the textbook (for all of her courses online). The assignments were pretty straightforward, she is an easy grader so it's 100% better being graded by her and not her TA. The class is about 10 assignments.
I really enjoyed this class because the topic is interesting to me. If you do not like theoretical discussions or reading, then this class isn't for you. Lots of reading and a 500 word essay every week, which was a graded by TA's. The content of the papers don't really matter, just follow the criteria she clearly lays out and you'll be golden.
A copious amount of discussion posts disguised as quizzes. The reading quizzes are not quizzes but a series of questions that have ~250 minimum. The professor wants us to text her rather than email. The grading criteria is vague and feedback is not provided in a timely manner. Class was not very easy and extremely writing heavy.
I have gotten all As for the past few semesters. This class is the most challenging. Her grading / expectations are unclear. The class lacks proper expectations and she seems to lack organization of thought. It's a lot of reading.
Grading feels unclear, and this is by far the most challenging class I've had. I have felt myself losing interest in a topic I used to enjoy because the grading is tough and I've been feeling discouraged. This class might be my first fail (currently have a 3.87 GPA) not looking forward to my final grade. don't take if you struggle learning online:(
The class has a lot of reading and writing, but Professor Daughtrey is very helpful. Unstuck study was a lifesaver for preparing for the weekly assignments. With dedication, you can get a good grade in this challenging but interesting course.
This class had some of the most required reading per week of any course I have taken but to be fair it's an accelerated course. Witchcraft and heresy is an interesting topic so it wasn't too bad just a lot of work. She had a weird type of assignment that I can only describe as informal essays about the readings that were very time consuming to do.
You're writing an essay or two every week based off of the text book that is hard to read. It feels like you can't write anything that's correct in her eyes, but at least she provides plenty of feedback that tells you every thing you did wrong but not how to fix it. Not only this but she will BLOW UP the announcements tab you can't keep up.
This is the type of professor who will knock points off of your grade for minor and sometimes esoteric reasons. I honestly think she just enjoys giving people bad grades for no reason. She'll give you a wall of text explaining the assignment, but even when you follow the instructions to a "t" she'll still deduct points and not really explain why.
Honestly as long as you have the ability to analyze the texts and write reasonably well you'll do alright. Go over any rubric that's provided and use the examples provided by the professor to have an idea of what she's looking for. It is a bunch of writing and reading so be ready for that. Overall she's nice and good but not a class for everyone.
My problem it's not so much with the professor, but with the TA who's grading was so inconsistent, many of the readings were so unnecessary, the assignments can only be based on the book chapter, and you cannot use other reading materials. PLEASE avoid this course if you can, DO NOT TAKE. Perhaps TAs are the issue. I'm just glad it's almost over.
This professor did not upload any class assignments by the first day of class. She created the FINAL PAPER assignment on Tuesday when it was due Friday. I got no indication that she ever read any of my papers-- TA graded them very inconsistently and marked off points with no feedback. When I asked prof. for clarification, she never responded. 0/10.
Witchcraft and heresy was a fun and interesting class to take but most definitely was one of the classes that you had to read a lot. There was a ton of material that was thrown at you each week. You had to do two large assignments based on either the 1st or 2nd book. The TA I was assigned was informational and had a very clear grating criterion.
I truly enjoyed taking her class; it was very informative, and she had interesting lectures. The reading material also drew me in, and I learned quite a bit from her. She can be a bit difficult sometimes, but if you stick to the criteria, it's smooth sailing. Would take her again and highly recommend.
