If you pay attention his class is not hard. He made me 100% more interested in gov't than before I took his class
He is Irish and has a little accent but it is very understandable. he is very nice and is willing to help you with any problems. his tests are 30 multiple choice, 4 short answer, and one essay. He tells you EXACTLY what he is going to ask on the tests and what to study for them. He made government very interesting. Highly recommend.
He is irish, so kind of fun to listen to him! His notes are really clear. Gives lots of extra credit. There are 4 tests. 2 of them are 20 multiple choice and essay and the other 2 tests are 50 multiple choice. Read book cuz some questions come from it. Should make an A if you study!
Nice and great professor made Government very interesting and fun! If you just attend his class and put a bit of effort in to it you'll get a good grade.
He is an AWESOME professor! he made government easy to understand and he tell you what he expects, i HIGHLY recommend him!
He was very organized, well prepared for each class. His notes and study guidelines was in line with all tests. He was very cheerful for each class and had class participation. It made every week interesting. Highly recommend him for Govt.
Attend all classes and do not be late. You will have a daily journal to write based upon a current event clip he shows. Read your book. All 4 tests multi choice, essays on 2 of the tests. You will be tested on book info and his lectures. You will learn more in his class than any other. He gives lots of extra credit. Hint: write down all he says!
Pretty easy class. Journal everyday, 4 test. 2 are essay and multiple choice and the other 2 are only multiple choice. I personally never used the book. Just make sure you go to class and write down everything he say (it will be on his test) I got a B in the class.
Amazing teacher! He is from Ireland and gives great perspectives from outside US view. Notes are easy. Tests are easy if you do the study guide. Gives constant extra credit! Taking him again for Govnt 2!
Just finished govnt 2 with him. A lot of work since it was a summer class, but learned a lot. Great teacher. Really nice. Gave a packet of extra credit. If you do the study guides for the test they are super easy. TAKE HIM- do have to work a little though
Teacher was great. Actually got me interested in government after taking his class. Took govt 2301 with him and them immediately signed up for his 2302 class. Show up on time for the journals, but if you do you get extra credit.
EXCELENT PROFESOR!!! TOTALLY RECOMEND HIM. I ENJOYED HIS CLASS. I WOULD ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO BEING IN HIS CLASS. HE MADE THE CLASS SUPER EASY, BY EXPLAINING VERY WELL THE MATERIAL, EVEN THOUGH HE HAS AN ACCENT HE'S SUPER COOL AND GIVES LOTS OF EXTRA POINTS. HE'S THE BEST GOVERNMENT PROFESOR I'VE EVER HAD.
He is a great professor!!! If you study the book and notes and understand it than you should get a good grade.
Amazing professor! His classes are always interesting and fun. He lays out exactly what he expects in the class, but is willing to help if you need it. Gives many opportunities for extra credit. Do the extra credit! I loved this class, and got an A. If you put in the effort, you will do really well in the class. Best professor I had all semester!
Amazing professor, very helpful, and makes Government very interesting! Would totally recommend him to future Govt. 2305 students!
First of all, he is awesome!!! I learned a whole lot but he is a tough cookie. JUst read and you will do good. I am not a fan of government but he made it fun.:))
The best professor i have had so far. Took him for government 1 & 2 and got an A both times. He is very organized and clear. Not an easy class if you don't do at least a bit of studying but he makes the material very interesting and relevant. Class discussions were always a great way to start the class. Overall HIGHLY recommend him! Funny too!
Take down all of his notes, show up in time to do the journal. Do all of his extra credit, it'll help you. His text are kind of hard, you need to know more than just his notes and the book.
Very straightforward & respectable professor. Has a funny sense of humor that had me laugh out loud multiple times in his class. You MUST read the book. His first two tests are multiple choice/essays and he grades fairly, however the last two are all multiple choice (the last two tests are much, much harder believe it or not). Definitely recommend!
Professor Beggan is fairly easy. You get extra credit possibilities which helps alot. He does have an accent and only a couple of times did I have to read lip. Government itself isn't easy but make sure you read and understand the material thoroughly.
He is a wonderful professor. Just be sure and read the chapters of the book that he assigns and make sure you do all of the extra-credit (it involves completing the study guides and writing down the journal) easy A, and very interesting. Definitely need the book, but you learn A LOT. Study the notes and you will pass.
Lectures/discussions are interesting. The book is required for reading prior to lectures. Plenty of extra credit opportunities to cushion your test grades. If you work hard and put in sufficient effort you will make an A in Professor Beggan's class. Highly recommended.
PLEASE READ. Do yourself a favor and take someone else. While he is very knowledgable w/ a PhD his exams are not structured for success. there are 4 exams, no hw. You go blindly into the exam b/c you don't know what to study for. There is so much uneccesary material. I have a 3.9 GPA. I worked VERY hard in his class and got a C. Save yourself. PLS.
Passing is no problem. YES. You have to read the book. It's college. Go to class. Offers plenty of extra credit. Tests might surprise you. Memorize your test essays. Find someone to study with it really really helps. He is Irish <3 Realy cool.
Beggan is very knowledgable! He is an awesome professor. No, this isn't a blow off class, it requires you to actually study. As long as you read the book, and attend his lectures you should do fine. He makes learning about government interesting.
He is a very good professor. Highly recommend him! You do have to work and pay attention in his class. He tells you what to write down for your notes and gives extra credit. Highly recommend reading the book. Overall great professor. You work for your grade.
Beggan is so cool, his lectures are entertaining and he gets the class involved. The notes he wants you to write down are very clear. And there are SO many extra credit opportunities which I think is spectacular.
He's a great teacher, but it's not an easy A. Make sure to READ THE BOOK!
Great professor. Must read textbook to pass exams, a lot of extra credit and class was fun. Not an easy A or B. you do have to put in sometime. No homework only read chapters.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. I am an A student and with all the other classes I was taking, there was just WAY TOO MUCH reading. It wasn't that big of a problem but the exams were SO HARD. NO REVIEWS. NO STUDY GUIDE. VERY HARD. Save yourself you don't need to know that much about gov't. take it in minim ester. Really nice guy though.
Professor Beggan has a very intriguing background. Attendance not mandatory, but you won't pass. He gives answers to tests in class. This class requires extensive book reading, which a lot of people complain about, but I find very helpful. If you do the reading, and make flashcards of the important words(like he suggests) then you will do just fine
Awesome professor who engages students in discussions, extra credit opportunities, and good lectures. Yes, you need to read the textbook this is college ya know not hard to do. He isn't easy but not hard either. Just a good professor and I think most enjoy his teaching.
Dr. Beggan is an excellent professor. Yes, you must read the book and show up to class to take the lecture notes. He encourages class participation and creates an environment for discussion. I highly recommend him. He makes Government interesting and has opened my mind to things I really would not have ever of thought about – great class!!!!
He is a good professor. Extra credit always available. I would take him again. Just be careful the tests can be a bit tricky.
Good professor. Tests are a bit tricky, but extra credit is always available.
Be prepared to do a lot of reading. If you study you will do good. Test question can be re worded to confuse you so always STUDY! Great professor overall.
Very good professor and funny. Gets you involved in the class and thinking outside of it. Offers ample opportunities of extra credit. Must read the textbook if you want an A.
Very good professor and funny. Gets you involved in the class and thinking outside of it. Offers ample opportunities of extra credit. Must read the textbook if you want an A. Takes attendance every day and doesn't appreciate people who are habitually late to his class.
lecturenotes every day, total of 3 tests + final. No quizzes, offers extra credit, very polite, very entertaining, very engaging, makes you think. I did not have time to read my book and still got As on tests. Study vocabulary, & notes, write an essay per chapter before the test and you will get an A - "PARTICIPATE IN GOVERNMENT!"
He was an amazing professor. I loved being his class. He is brilliant in his subject and everything else to. He really gets you to think about things and I loved it.
He's a hard professor, but he's very clear with his lectures, and he wants you to take good notes in order to pass! He offers extra credit, but I feel bad for not doing it, which I end up getting a C. Make sure to read the book because it'll be the part of the test!
He tells you he's a professional and that he was. He kept class interesting. Read and do study guides if you want to pass. His notes are clear, tells you word by word what to write. So much extra credit. If you are good at writing, the first two test will get you an A. The last two test are mc, which was surprisingly much worse. Take him.
Great professor. To make an A you must read the book, study your notes (he tells you what to write down), study the book questions and online quizzes (he does not grade quizzes). Lots of extra credit about 60-70 points worth of extra credit, maybe even more. This is not an easy class though, you must put the work into it.
I loved his class!!! He is such a good teacher and gives SO much extra credit! If you do the extra credit and study, you're going to get an A. He is very easy to talk to and is always willing to help. Make sure to pay attention in class
Took for minimester. 3 Tests which include short answer and long essay. 8 discussion posts. and 3 projects, all in three weeks. 20 point extra credit project. kind of time consuming but able to manage. Grades decently, turn your work in and you will pass.
I took this class for a 3 week mini and it was a lot of work I work full time but it was easy. You need the book to read the chapters and make good grades on the tests. Gives extra credit, I received an A but I had to work hard so it is not a class you can slack off in. I do recommend this class! If you do the work and keep up you can make an A!
Felt guilty not doing his evaluation so I figured this was the next best thing. Easily the best professor Ive ever had, material is easy to understand but not simple enough to bore you. The discussions in class are great. If you do the reviews and read the reviews in the book you will make an A, I was lazy and got a B.
Easily one of the best professors at LSC Montgomery. He is funny and makes the class fun in general by engaging the students. There are a lot of extra credit opportunities to boost your grade. MUST buyread the textbook in order to pass! I would take him again in a heartbeat.
With Dr. Beggan, you will not be bored. He keeps you on your toes so you don't fall asleep in his class, but how can someone fall asleep when his lectures are so interesting? He genuinely cares that you pass, hence the reason he gives so many bonus point opportunities. You should definitely take advantage of enrolling in his class!
The lectures he gives for this class are extremely interesting. That may just be me, but they're interesting. Take all the extra credit he gives you, it'll really help your grade. With that being said, i'm not saying he's hard and you need it or you won't pass, but if you want to get the grade you want the extra credit is useful.
Really enjoyed his lectures and gave a lot of extra credit. Gives you a lot of opportunities to get extra points on tests. Would take him again in a heartbeat!
Took Dr. Beggan for both TX Gov and Fed Gov and would do it again in a heartbeat! Must read book if you want to pass but totally worth taking this professor. His lectures are interesting and make you want to become more educated about our nation'sstate's politics.
Take Him!! Professor Beggan gives really great lectures, and gets the class involved. He is pretty funny as well. He gives a ton of extra credit and gives you everything you need to succeed. There are 4 tests 25 points each. If your looking for a blow off class don't take him, He makes his lectures very clear and easy to understand. (Take Notes!!)
Doctor Dominic Beggan is a very good professor! He is clear on what he needs from you in order for you to pass the class, he gives extra credit which is extremely helpful, if you're a lazy person who doesn't want to take the time to do the work don't take him, if you're actually a person who cares about learning take him!!!
I have much respect for this professor. The class is extremely straightforward. He gave good lectures, and good tests. Expect to write one small paper lecture. I learned much from this class, and recommend him to anyone with moderate intelligence and work ethic.
For online class he has three exams, few projects but not too hard... but for sure you will have to work for your grade. Exam is timed with essay questions. Make sure to follow deadlines because he does not accept late work. One more time - you will have to work for your grade.
I hate essays on tests, but whatever. However, with him learning about our government is fun and interactive.
Professor Beggan is a good teacher but it is a hard class. There are only a few grades besides the tests, so make sure you read and study for those tests because they are not easy. He gives a lot of extra credit though. You have to work for your grade.
Dr. Beggan told us on the first day, that he will be the best professor we would ever have. I have to say, I think I agree. His lectures in class are amazing. I will absolutely miss being in his class. A pleasure to take.
Timed test are very stressful because there is a lot to do and not quite enough time allotted. 4 test make up 2/3rds of the grade. WARNING he will not accept late work even if you have a legitimate accident, emergency, or incident . It doesn't matter if you have proof that explains why you had to miss something you will still get a zero on it.
Dr. Beggan is a great teacher. He is passionate about his job and this translates in excellent classes. You must work, though, to get an A. You must read, work on several assignments during the semester, study for the tests (multiple choice, plus short answer, plus essay), but he will give you plenty of opportunities for extra credit.
Too many social issues discussed which is liberal focused. This class is harder than a government class has to be, tests and quizzes timed so you are more worried about the clock than the quality of your answers. Next class needs to be more objective and discuss real issues in this country!
This online class discussions, projects and quizzes were easy! The exams on the other hand suck. Timed exam with 25 multiple choice questions, two short answer essay questions and a long essay question with many points to address. The essay portion counts for half of the exam grade so don't let your time run out! I made that mistake. :(
I took this class for the 3-week winter-mini, I thought this class would have been tough, but it was not bad. Professor Beggan had everything laid out on the syllybus so you knew what to expect. There is a discussion and quiz everyday M-F, except on the day you have a test. The quizzes and tests are timed, so make sure you are ready to take them.
Awesome prof! He gives a few moderate projects and the chapter tests are tough. 10 m/c in 15 minutes so you have to know your stuff. Exams are pretty brutal - 90 minutes for 25 m/c, 2 short answer and one long essay. He gives possible topics ahead of time so I wrote all 3 essays in advance and just polished the one he requested. Made a high A!
HE MAKES YOU WORK. He gives us 10 question quizzes but the time limit is 15mins. If you think that is stressful don't get me started on the Tests. He's a good teacher but time is extremely limited which makes the course stressful and unpleasant. Overall you have to read a boring textbook and remember everything because anything could be on the test
Weekly timed quizzes. Test are horrible! Timed 80 minutes, 25 multiple choice, 2 short answer question, (1) 300-600 word essay question, 5 paragraphs. MUST know the book, think quick, write clearly, type fast, and have a great internet connection! Also included are 4 projects throughout the semester. Class requires a lot of your time.
Dr. Beggan is the best professor I've ever had in my entire college career thus far. His tests are not easy, and he will make you work for an A, but he will literally take time off of his lectures to break everything down for you and let his students know their weaknesses and their strengths. The strategies that he teaches you will be very helpful.
my fave professor at the school! hes very interactive and makes this an interesting subject! he wants you to think and actually take something from the class. it does require time, but as far as tests go, he tells you what to study and gives tips (so as long as your prepare it'll be easier). plus he gives extra credit.
One of my favorite professors! If you do the work you will easily pass. All projects are basically an effort grade i got a 100 on each which boosted my grade. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. His test reflect everything he discusses in class and the quizzes come from the quizzes at the end of each chapter in the textbook.
Pay attend in class and read the book and you will do fine. Professor Beggan gives extra credit. Tip for making a good grad on the exam, write the two essays before the exam. There is only one on the exam use the first page of blue book to write your outline. Keeping up on the reading is key in this class. I have major test anxiety.
BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT TAKING HIM ONLINE. Without the "amazing lectures" and in-class help, he can come off as unreasonable or out-of-touch. Communication and clarification are available if you initiate such through email. Exams are nearly impossible to get through when one is plagued with panic attacks. Textbook is very interesting.
Dr. Beggan was recommended to me from a previous student of his, and I must say he was one of the easiests teachers online I've ever taken. But I really didn't like having to write two essays for the upcoming tests, and he only used one and you might have to add more information on the subject also.
Okay!! the quizzes are timed 15min,but easy to look up the test are a little difficult with 1 long essay 2short essays and 30 mc BUT if you prepare for the long essay before you will do fine he grades very fair and responds quickly I was scared at 1st but I did great and this def is not my subject! you will work for your grade but Id take again
Interesting online class. Definitely a lot asked of students, about 5 assignments a week (2 discussion, a project, 2 quizzes) plus chapter readings, and a test on 3 chapters about every other week. Hard tests 50 multiple choice, 2 long answer, and 1 essay. Straight forward teacher though, do all the work and you'll pass
Took the online class. Easy grader. Got to READ the book. Turn in the assignments. Easy A
He is passionate and he very interactive, He likes discussions and is open to hearing thoughts and staying unbiased on lectures. He wants you to have your own opinion. His tests are long but he gives detailed study guides and tells you what he wants on the essays. He gives a lot of extra credit. His class is time consuming but it is worth it.
He is by far my fave professor at LSC. Really wish I could've taken him for 2306. He knows how to engage his students & actually gets them to think about the world around them. He always does opposing views and lets you form your own opinion. Study like crazy and do the extra credit!! Be on time, study the notes, & do your exam essay ahead of time!
Professor Beggan helps a lot by giving extra credit opportunities, reading the textbook is important!!
Nothing was coherent. Discussion prompts were loaded questions that had little to do with the actual chapter topics. The quizzes & tests rely heavily on the textbook. The tests only match the study guides in structure, not content (very frustrating). Not a hard class but I would not take this teacher again.
Tests are rather difficult if you don't read the textbook, but lectures are engaging and informative. You will for sure need to use the book and prepare properly for each test to get an A.
Professor Beggan actually cares about what he's teaching. He has an Irish accent & repeats himself when the information is important. Tests: 2 Short answers, 1 essay (30 points), 30 multiple choice (60 points). 10 quizzes (9 chapters). 4 Assignments (2 really easy). Bonus points collected through journals or seminars on test & 1 paper for 10 points
First online course I've taken, and I enjoyed it. Professor was very responsive, answered any and all questions. Very easy, course is designed to get easier as the semester progresses (less homework, etc). Projects were simple, tests and quizzes were right out of the book.
If you are willing to do a little reading and complete the projects, he is a great professor, very funny and interesting lectures
Dr. Beggan is truly a one of a kind professor. He is very transparent of what is expected for his students, and also presents very thought-provoking and interesting material to his students. He is passionate about what he does, and that is what really counts for something.
I took this class part in class and part online. I would strongly advise people to try and take him in class at least some. He really engages the students and is amazing at really getting you to think outside the box. I have learned so much and I thought this class was going to suck. I wish I could keep him as a professor for all of my classes!
He incorporates projects, videos, writing, class discussion, and reading into his course. He creates an unbiased environment and challenges us to think independently. Exams are a combination of multiple choice, short answers, and an essay. You MUST keep up with the textbook reading.
