Dr. Barry wrote his own text book which helped immensely in deciphering his lectures. His wasn't that difficult to follow and was quite entertaining.

I absolutely loved Dr. Barry. I took him for both EUH1000, EUH1001, as well as, AMH2010. He's quite passionate about the material. If you're at all interested in history, I can think of no reason for passing on this wonderful professeur.

Good teacher. Gives a lot of tests (8) in a semester. Really knows what he is talking about. Funny and entertaining at times.

loved this class. he is very liberal and we had a lot of the same views. tells it like it is. tests are a must study for, other than that he is an awesome teacher

Not bad as one who conveys information, but terrible in as much as he gives too much IMO (in my opinion). People sign up for the class to be taught factual material not to be told, "Sorry class, I hate to tell you, there is no God."

I had Dr. Barry last semester. He is very hard but fair. I learned a lot in his class. While he's liberal and voices his opinion, I think that he does it sometimes to get the students to think about the issues. He has taught me to use my critical thinking skills. I earned my "B".

Very hard class. He's really enthusiastic which I like and he does a good job of explaining things but he spent a 1/3rd of the time complaining about George Bush. I recommend this guy to anyone willing to do a lot of studying because he really wants you learn everything, not just dates and names.

He tries very hard to make the class fun. He has a good sense of humor. He gives the students a very good outline for the class, and tell you what he wants you to know.

He is a really good professor but is not for the slackers. There is a a lot of material but it is all cavered in this handbook that he made himself ($15) and you don't have to but the book, just the handbook. He complained WAY too much about G. Bush (that was offensive to a lot of people)but if you can ignore that and memorize the stuff you're good

Barry is a very knowledgable man. He gets off the topic in his lectures tho, and starts ranting & raving for minutes at a time. We never finish the notes in class, which would help me. He starts on Bush, or even starts yelling at ppl talking in class. DONT talk 2 others while he is talking- he'll call u out & cuss you out too. Opinionated but OK.

Dr. Barry was the best teacher I ever had at TCC. He explains the material so well and is not afraid to speak his mind. Also, he is very entertaining and has great storytelling skills. Take this class if you want to have fun.

Just lectures from his book and if you go to class and pay attention to what he says then read over the book you will do well on his tests. Offers many insights about Europe and America.

Dr. Barry is a highly intellectual individual and is truly passionate about what he teaches. If you are serious about your education and want to learn, take Dr. Barry.

Can occasionally go off on a tangent about certain topics (his favorites include President Bush and the Iraq War). He's a good teacher, there's only 8 tests through the semester (no H/W) and they're fairly difficult, but he gives out a study guide and if you attend class and take somewhat decent notes you can easily pass the tests.Enjoyed the class

A little loud-mouthed and opinionated; can be a lot to swallow if you are a Republican (he's very liberal and WHY he is so partisan in his class is beyond me); very informational, though, and a thorough teacher; good teacher to take if you plan on going into a history-related degree

Mr. Barry was a great teacher. He is definately a memorable one. If you show up to class and just keep up with the material you will do fine. He is very passionate with his lectures and makes them interesting. If you talk while he is lecturing or have a habit of missing classes you will be on his bad side, you do not want to be there.

Show up with a highlighter and the mandatory test book, be prepared to listen to his tangents on the war, politics, and the heavily dispised conservatives. Very funny, entertaning. Go to class, and you'll do well on the tests. Simple. Study the hour or night before the test, it's a breeze.

Very easy A for me. Only studied the day of test and made mostly A's and a few B's on the 8 tests. Dr. Barry is a character and very passionate. Extremely entertaining man for a liberal such as myself. Would not reccomend taking the class if you have string Republican views. You will get offeneded. Otherwise just pay attention in class. Not hard.

his sense of humor makes the class somewhat entertaining. If you go over the text before the test you should be fine, unless your a complete idiot.

i took him for western civ 1 and he is seriously one of the best teachers ive ever had hes freaking hilarious and so interesting hes passionate about what he talks about and makes everything sound cool, i hate history and he made me love it

The most interesting teacher ive ever had. Hes an expert on western civ and is a clever dude as well. The tests are straight from his book, usually about 20 pages per test. I wish he taught more classes at tcc.

Okay, everyone who has said anything bad about this teacher needs to lay OFF! He's just a funny old man who tells it how it is. I never liked history till I came to his class. He keeps your attention & his tests aren't THAT bad. He tells you exactly whats on the test & if you don't study right, that's your own fault. So don't blame it on him.

OKay,, I don't know who is making him seem bad. He is a great teacher... everything goes along with his notebook. So he is a liberal... now you know. Don't like, don't take. Personally I vote him as one of the best teachers at TCC. He wants to help, go to his office or call, he gives you his home phone number!!!!

He makes the class simple and doesn't make you read chapters and chapters of pointless stuff, he gives you an outline note book thats super helpful. But he's real single-minded and blames everything on Bush. I wouldn't recommend just because of he's annoying anti-Bush rampages and gets wayyyy off topic constantly.

so passionate when teaching, he is HILARIOUS. cusses a lot in class, it keeps it interesting. often yells just because hes getting so into his lectures. he truly knows about european history, idk who is saying he doesn't know anything but he was on the HISTORY CHANNEL.. c'monnnn tests are kind of tough but he is great you'll never forget him!

people who do poorly in this class are either lazy or stupid. All you have to do is review the material (which is outlined exactly) and study a little for test. I honestly think he's hillarious; sat two feet away from a kid who took out a cell phone and Barry went into a cursing tyraid

Dr. Barry is extremely passionate about history which is great. There are only 8 easy tests with no other homework or papers or anything. Only an idiot could fail this class. He's very liberal though, so if you're a square I suggest stay away. I got high A's on every test with very little effort/class attendance.

He is an eccentric proffessor! He provides study guides for each test, but some of the test questions can be oddly written. The tests are mainly matching or choose the best answer, although he does use "all the following are true except..."

hard quiz every week, started with 40 ppl ended it with 12, he goes off subject an says stupid things that get other ppl mad, an flips out if you have a drink or electronic out, not recommend got a d and didnt miss one class

As long as you dont eat, drink, answer your phone or sleep in class youll be fine. Attend class because he gives you answers on the tests. Barely studied and GOT B'S on his tests. you have to be a complete moron to not get atleast a C. Hes a cool dude just be respectful and attend class and youll be straight. it you fail its your own fault not his.

Makes history fun. Did not charge for self-published textbook. Class is entertaining but attendance not mandatory.

Great professor. A little crazy, but overall cool. He knows what he is talking about and you don't really need the textbook. He gives out his notes. He does like to yell, but its usually pretty funny.

Barry is one of the best history teachers at TCC. He is very passionate about European history and teaches it very well.If you got a D or an F on his tests you are stupid, or you are terrible at studying. Barry's tests are identical to his outlines.minor studying is required. He curses and get fired up about topics which keeps his class interesting

One of the best instructors at TCC. Only grades are 8 exams. The final exam is not cumulative. He does not use a textbook, but all material comes from an outline that he has compiled himself. Dr. Barry has an energy that most teachers are lacking. You'll never be bored in his class. I studied moderately (a few hours per week) and made an A.

He is a great professor. Most of the students saying he's bad probably slack off and are looking for a high school class setting. Newsflash this is college. Hes an excellent lecturer and extremely passionate about his work. He has a couple screws lose but who doesn't. He prepares you for the test. Just don't disrespect his classroom setting.

Dr. Barry is a brilliant old man and an excellent professor. We don't use the textbook, we use a booklet he gives us that outlines everything we need to know. He lectures a lot, but watching him lecture is better than television. He goes bonkers over every topic! His class does require a lot of studying but he's very clear about what he expects.

If you are smart enough, you will enjoy this class. Dr. Barry is brilliant and knowledgeable, and i have a crystal clear view of our American History because of him.

Super easy, if you don't do well in his class it's your own fault. but...He is a raging Liberal..Welcome to Tallahassee I suppose.

NOT AN EASY A. Very smart, very funny, but don't ever talk in class, eat, drink, or misbehave because he will ream you and kick you out. Honestly a good guy. His tests are hard, but not if you study hard. You dont have to buy the book, he pays out of pocket to have a book of test outlines printed for you.

Take his syllabus seriously, especially the parts about phones and food as he will kick you out of class. He wants you to succeed and gives you all the information you need to pass his tests. I got an A on every test, and sometimes A+ and I slept in class by the end of the semesters for the last 3-4 tests including the 'final'.

You better KNOW that material for the test. Almost impossible to guess. Can get off tangent during lecture, but he provides free booklet to study from. All information is in there, so know it backwards and forwards. Most don't like him, but if you respect him and enjoy lectures you'll do fine. 8 tests total (including exam). Straight forward.

Superb professor! Taking him again for my next history. His class expanded my vocabulary and was very interesting.

I hated him at first, because I expected perfect grades with minimal effort. Once I started doing the intensive required reading, I learned more in that semester than 12 years of history classes. I'm not sure of his personal views, but learning about the history of socialism and communism inspired me to become a revisionist Marxist.
