Probably one of the smartest teachers at montco. In the beginning i didnt like him but he helps you become a better writer by like 100%. I thought he was a very funny guy in class. Never held back. If you ask for help, he gives it, and it shows on papers.

Greatest teacher ever

Took his class my first semester at Montco. Now after graduating...he was very knowledgeable. Ripped apart well known authors like they were tissue paper. I like to learn the correct way to write and he knows how!

Easy teacher to get around, all you have to do is write in short sentences, you cant go wrong with that! i got a B in his class that way, just have to outsmart the smart ones! go mE!

An effective and worthy teacher. If you can survive his class you will go far. His style is club and rock english. First he'll club you with the work load, then he'll rock you with low grades. He was my first teacher at MCCC. I graduated number 1 in my major at 4 year school.

I love Dr. Block. He has a great sense of humor. To do well in his class all you have to do is ask for help from either him or the learning center.

Don Block is the funniest guy alive... All you have to do is write exactly what he says and you'll be okay... he grades really hard but his stories are worth your money...

Dr. Block is the hardest teacher i've had so far!!! Whatever you learned before his class is totally wrong. He does thigs totally different. Hardest grader on papers. Even though I got a D in his class he was still funny and entertaining to watch.

Dr. Block's dark sided look on life is great. His is the first English class I've ever enjoyed being in. Follow his outlines for his papers and you'll pass easily. Offer him a prun danish and he might give you extra credit (alright, probably not, but he'll thank you for it).

Dr. Block is an excellent professor. His class is only difficult if you make it difficult. All you have to do is show up to his class, pay very close attention to the paragraph format that he teaches, and then write your paper in that exact format. If you follow those 3 simple instructions, you will have no problem passing his class.

D. Block is definitely a grammar nazi. His assignments get very monotonous as all of them are basically the same paper, but the actual class time is the most fun you will ever have. His stories are very amusing and he has a dark sense of humor.

his class is as difficult as you make it. it's scary at first, but if you follow his essay format as he tells you to the tee, follow the grammar in the little brown book, and participate you will do fine. his teaching is a bit out of the ordinary, maybe perverse, but if you ask for help, he will be more than willing. I had a lot of fun.

This man did me a favor! He was the toughest English teacher I have ever had. When I walked out of his class with a B I knew I had EARNED it! I was an Honor Student in HS and it had been seven years since my last English class. Dr. Block made sure I couldn't slack with his material. His grading is strict on grammer but it keeps you on your toes.

He's a prick but it's totally worth it. You need a pretty thick skin to sit though it class and not be offended by something. If you get an A you can probably walk on water too. Grammer is the key. Follow his style exactly and proof read until it hurts bafore turning anything in. You're going to get crap grades but can get E.C. (danish = awesome)

Best English class I've ever taken. Follow his outlines EXACTLY as he says, and you'll never fail. That's it.... FOLLOW HIS OUTLINES!!!!! It couldn't have been an easier class if he tried. If he had other English classes past 101, I'd take them, even if they aren't required by my major!!! He's got a great, crule sense of humor, too!!!

Great teacher, its worth taking his course because he teaches you what you need to know for grammer. Follow his outline to a T and you will pass. It is also refreshing to hear some alternative thoughts rather than the "appropriate." Oh, and avoid being absent because he does not tolerate that at all, there are no exceptions to his rules.

He's very easy to learn from and passionate about the English language. Pay attention and you'll pass without ANY problems. Also, he has a funny and sarcastic sense of humor-don't take what he says personally and you'll be just fine. :)

I loved Dr. Block. I have been out of high school for twenty years and he really helped me with my writing. He is strict but has a great sense of humor. You just have to show up and pay attention and ask questions. He will help you. Ask him about the prune danish.

Block has a great sense of humor. He is hard on his papers but he just wants you to understand where you are making your mistakes. I had him for Eng 011 and also for Eng 101. I would take him for 102 if he taught it. He is strict on grammer but he will make sure you understand. I have received a prune danish!

Great Professor! He is challenging, but also very fun. He always made me laugh. As long as you follow the outlines, you'll do ok. He will deliberately grade your paper wrong so that you can catch it & get extra credit. For extra credit, he gives a full letter grade to any paper of your choice. The final is easy too. I got a "B" AND a prune danish!

REAL HARD but a boss

Let me preface this with I think Dr. Block as a person is an ok guy. However, as a professor DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. That is unless of course you are extremely stong in punctuation, grammar, subject-verb agreement, verb tense, apotrophes, ... well let me just say you need a 4 yr english degree to preform well in this class. Give your GPA a break!

Mr. Block do not take this man seriously with the comments he makes until he sAYS" I'm serious" he's a real funny man! the key is to seehim privately with your workand ask questions at his office hours. he's a sweet man and will help u if you go after it! IF YOU CAN write for mr. block u will be able to write for anyone!

He is an outstanding professor, and it is guaranteed that you will get exactly the grade you deserve from him.

He is hands down the best professor that I've ever had. His class is exremely difficult, but if you apply yourself then you can get an A. He is very fair with grading. You also have to be able to appreciate a twisted sense of humor. He lets you be really creative in your writing. There aren't any limits. I wish I could take his class again!

Obviously, from the amount of comments he's gotten-he's a very memorable prof. He's crazy, difficult, funny, strange, and openminded. As long as you try and work hard you'll do well. If anything, it's an experience.

I took Dr. Block's Basic Writing II (Eng. 011) class in Summer '08. I'm not sure if other people just didn't want to do the work or something, but I enjoy having Dr. Block as my teacher. The workload is not at all bad. He was really helpful and I've learned a lot from him. I got an A in his class and also got an A in English 101. Just do the work!!

Dr. Block is a radical liberal, opinionated, and demanding teacher.If you complete all your assignments, then you will enjoy his class. He is an awesome teacher.

The Best teacher I have ever had (& I'm an older person). Dr. Block has a wicked sense of humor, loves teaching and the English language. Yes, he has his PhD so he's not a stupid man. You have to understand his system, format, and outline for each essay, and understand how to write how he wants. Dr. Block will make you a better writer. You will not go through any of his courses without him exaggerrating his love for The Brooklyn Dodgers. He has great love for this, and has helped me through email in my essays after his class.

If you're willing to learn Dr. Block can teach you, but he will kick your butt! It is obvious who passed and who did not pass from the grammar content of the previous posts. Dr. Block is memorable and dedicated. You will fail if you're lazy.

This professor is a strict grader. Any punctuation mark is 0.25 pts; fragments or comma splices are a "letter grade"; a run-on sentence is 2 "letter grades." Do not make fragments..he will take a letter grade for each fragment you make.However, due to his strictness, I have learned a great deal from this professor.[WARNING]getting an "A" is hard.

Dr. Block used to teach my father and my dad warned me about him. The first day I had him he yelled at me to the point that I cried. I had Dr. Block three times and I can honestly say he was THE BEST teacher I have EVER had! I learned so much from him and became a better student because of it. I wish I could retake his classes :D

Everybody says that Dr. Block is SO hard and mean, but that's not true. Many students tend to misinterpret his dry sense of a humor. He's a wonderful teacher, and he made me learn to love English. He is very clear about what he wants and how he wants it. If you just follow his instructions verbetum, you will get an A.

People have different personalities and Dr. Block is not the teacher with the typical persnality that you are used to. If you are not a deligent student and don't show up on time, then, this is not for you. I cried every day for the first two weeks because I thought I will fail, but I ended up getting an A because I did it his way and I worked hard

I can honestly say I learned a lot from his class. It was really hard in the beginning to get used to his style but just follow his format and you'll be fine.

It is his way or no way!! He is a very good teacher and you learn a lot. If you don't write your papers exactly how he wants you will fail. He is always willing to help when you ask so dont be afraid to speak up! Also, you have to understand his humor. If you dont have a good sense of humor you will most likely be offended at some point.

He's is hilarious! makes basic english fun! Do exactly what he wants or you will fail. He is wrong about his elementary way of writing composition, but it is just something you have to deal with while you are in his class. HE LOVES THE DODGERS.

Literally the easiest and best English class I ever had. I took him 4 years ago and to this day still write using his grammar rules and style. If you get offended easily or aren't open to learning, don't take him.

Dr. Block is a hard marker; this statement could not be anymore true. If you give him exactly what he wants you will pass, but it'll be a hard pass. He takes his "rules" very seriously and more then one person was removed from my class for breaking them. I'll reiterate: follow his exact guidelines for a pass. GREAT teacher. I hated English and my high school did not prepare me well for college English. Block taught me how to become a better writer, especially with my grammar and punctuation. Loves the BROOKLYN Dodgers and I'm pretty sure he wore Dodgers apparel every day

At first I hated him and thought he was insane. But as the course continued I realized I learned so much in his class. He's a super tough grader but it is possible to get an A if you work hard. You lose a letter-grade with every class missed. He's willing to give extra help if needed. Great teacher. Books are mandatory! Enjoyed the prune danish!

I took Don Z Block 22 years ago in the autumn of 1992. He is the reason I'm an English teacher today.

You are going through a mine field, then you step on a mine you roll on the ground in pain, trying to crawl away then boom you land on another one, your done. That is how he grades his test, it does not take many mistakes to fail a paper another teacher may give you a C+ for the same mistakes. On the flip side he will help you if you seek it!

He is very helpful and he has a heart. I was down to my last lateness he said, If i was late again I wouldn't pass his class. So one day I beat him to class , and after class was over he said to me since you came in earlier then me i will remove one of your lateness. That was very generous of him to do. Just make sure you attend his class everyday.

Dr. Block is the best professor I ever had, he is an expert in his field, cares about his students and an authority on writing. You get back from him far more than you give, he is a credit to his profession and as fine a human being as I've ever met.

Mr. Block is a great professor although he's an extremely tough grader (which at times is very frustrating). However, if you put the effort in, it will pay off. He's very technical and thorough when it comes to this subject as a whole. In the end, he taught my class a lot more than just English. I will definitely always remember him, great guy.

I took Dr. Blocks class back in 2008. He made such an impression on me because he made me think about word choice, past/present tense, and the importance of proofreading. Fast forward ten years later, as of this writing, finds me calling out companies, literally, for their stupidity. Much love to Dr. B for his patience, humor, and kindness.

Dont let his gruff act fool you. If you do your job as a responsible student, he will help you pass the class by giving honest feedback, meet with you before and after class, and make you think. If you can appreciate his sense of humor, youll find him hilarious.

Dr. Block is an amazing professor. He is a tough grader and he has a sense of humor that only some people are able to appreciate. If you go to him during his office hours with a rough draft of your paper he will give you a lot of feedback and fix the mistakes that you made and then you're almost guaranteed an A if you fix the mistakes.

Notice that a few people here were students of Dr. Block's a long time ago. I was a student in his ENG101 course many years ago. His sense of humor was legendary, and he appreciated essays written with humor. I found his essay format useful throughout college and life. Now I'm a parent of college students and would recommend his class to them.

Don Block was the very best teacher at MCCC. I encourage new students to sign up for any of Don's classes. His classes were never dull, ending too quickly. He made his students think and reason. A great listener, students flocked around him when the class ended. Caring, dedicated to being a good teacher, he was also very funny. EXCELSIOR, Don! A+

I had a fantastic experience taking Dr. Block for English 101. There were a good amount of essays, it was not a class you could glide through without putting in actual work. When I did well in his class my work was recognized, respected, and rewarded. If you want to actually LEARN english composition at a college level, take this class.

First thing you need to know, copy his notes down exactly and read the little book, you will pass. If you forget a comma, making a fused sentence, he will take off 2 letter grades. One bad paragraph can fail your entire paper. He also doesnt stop grading down once you get an F on the paper. It is a high risk, high reward class. If lazy, dont take

I took Professor Blocks class over the summer of 2018. Here I am in 2021 thinking about him and his class. He is a hilarious professor who is a real stickler for proper punctuation. If you dont want to put in effort, dont take the class. If you have perfect attendance, you will get a prune danish (it was better than it sounds).
