Lots of Quizzes and unorganzied
The class is fun! but the tests are huge!!
Easy and fun if you where a skirt.
this man sucks as a teacher and curses a lot..guys were not allowed to wear hats in the classroom but girls could cause they looked cute in them...very unfair and tsts were 100 fill in balnks
Tests are thorough, very good story teller, made American History interesting, weekly quizzes were helpful study guides.
tests are hard, but if you like history or geography, you'll like Cope. You will LEARN is his class.
Class was very hard, I didn't learn a thing. I'm a straight A student and I got a C.
He is hard... His notes are scattered and his tests are 300 fill in the blank!
Has great stories that keep you interested, which makes it easy to get lost if you are not paying close attention.
Hard! Test are all fillin blank and he throws in all these questions we didnt even go over in class. Go in busting you a$$ or you will fail! He told everyone straight up he dosent give A's.
Really nice guy. Makes class interesting. Fun stories to listen to but tests are extremely hard. I studied really hard and ended up with a "D". Be ready for quizzes almost everyday. Hardest professor I've had in college yet.
He is very unclear and he doesn't take time aside to let you learn. He basically just tries to cram a ton of material in your head and gives long tests. Also swears alot.
He's not easy, if that's what you're looking for. If you want to take his class you have to come everyday and pay attention. Even then you aren't guaranteed an A. Nice guy, hard professor. It's really hard to keep up with him because he changes topics so fast. If you want to take him, good luck!
I have taken three classes from Mr. Cope. I have gotten 2 A's and a C. His geography class I found interesting. If you pay attention you will do okay. The man is there to teach and you are suppose to be there to learn. Maybe if some people do a little less partying and a little more school.....
He was the worst teacher I have ever had, and I am so glad he is retiring. He was very unhelpful when asked questions regarding subjects he would be covering on tests and quizzes. Don Cope is a nice person I suppose, but he is a terrible teacher.
Took two Geography classes with Don Cope. Enjoyed both classes. Loves to talk about books, movies, and military history. Write down everything that comes out of his mouth and you'll do fine on his tests. Guys tend to like his classes more than girls. FYI girls... he loves redheads.
very very hard. not clear on anything. wait to take it with another professor
Don Cope is one of the coolest professors I ever had. You can tell he wants to cuss at loser students which is cool.
He cusses like a sailor, that's enough for me! ha
Hardest tests ever! 200 fill in the blank.. Write down everything he says and study it all b/c everything is one the test! Somehow i got away with a D in the class..
It takes a lot of studying, but he is a very reasonable teacher. Take good notes, study them well, and you should be ok.
Always late for class and keeps you late. Poor attitude and personality.
I love Cope's class. It is all facts and if you write down everything that comes out of his mouth then you will pass the 200 question exam. I see it as the more questions, the less they count. Test are not hard. He is a great teacher. I would definately take him if you had the chance.
I think the closer to retired he gets the worse teacher he is. Have quizes very day over materials that he hasn't decuissed. Test are hard, 200+ fill in the blank, pulls questions out of his butt. I would never take him again, doesn't know how to teach. If you take him plan for you gpa to drop
Absolutely horrible!
great
Talks too much about history and random events in his life. The test are from lecture, but all fill in the blank. He gives quizzes everyday or almost everyday on the last class lecture. Very interesting man!
Talks too much about random facts not associated with the class and random events in his life. The test are from lecture, but all fill in the blank. He gives quizzes everyday or almost everyday on the last class lecture. Very interesting man!

Quizes every class day. That rediculous.
BAH! I don't like Cope. He's crazy!
his class bores me. but at least he wakes me up every now and then while he's cussing like a sailor! i think he's an alright teacher.
Copes geo. class is a joke, I ended up with over an 100 average in it.
He's great. Quizzes are exactly from lectures so if you take notes you make an A. Easiest class I've had so far.
talks more about world history than u.s. history primarily. his lectures are vague many times and you have to listen hard to catch the key things that he'll probably put on the quizzes.
I LOVE Professor Cope. He is clear in his lectures, all you have to do is take detailed notes. He gives you information like it's a story, which is very helpful to me. If you're not good at memorizing, like me, I would have to say that this class is for you!
great teacher! his class is PURE LECTURE. u don't even need a book. as long as u show up and listen to what he says and take good notes u'll pass. i HATE history but he makes it fun by adding in a few jerry springer moments from history. quizes are exactly from the lecture and can boost ur grade. if u can listen and take good notes u'll pass.
I think he was a HORRIBLE teacher! Really, "professors" like Cope suck, I found him to be very unclear and his tests are a joke. If you have hours to devote to his stories about his home like and his stupid dog, go ahead otherwise take another professor. I am sure he is a nice person, but I dont want to be in any classroom he is teaching in.
This was probably the easiest class I've taken in my 4 years of college. His tests come exactly from his notes, and he gives you quizzes to help your grade. He's big on attendance, but he rewards you for coming to class. If you come to class, pay attention, and study at least somewhat, you will make a good grade guaranteed.
very funny
His class was extremely hard..... All he does is talk.... and his test are crazy.... i have to retake this class..... not with him though .... don't take him
I've taken Cope multiple times for History and Geography. Great teacher. The only problem was he sometimes kept you a little longer then needed. Other than that, great teacher. Humorous, and his tests come from old quizzes. You just have to listen to his lecture. If you can't listen, don't bother with the class.
this teacher is the most confusing teacher i have ever had to suffer through. All he talks about are his cows and his retarded dog. I did'nt learn one piece of useful information. history was my best subject in high school I almost failed his class b/c he turned it into a geography class
I enjoyed his class. If you take his class be prepared to listen and take good notes. You'll have a quiz almost every class period and the tests come from the quizes. Hardley uses the text book. Almost all the questions on the tests come from him lectures. He has intersting stories to tell but sometimes he'll try to keep you a little late. Enjoyabl
Professor Cope turned out to be one of my best professors at CSU. He inspires students to engage the world around them, to travel in an atlas, and he challenges students to be better than average. Based on my experience, people who did badly in this class did not pay attention to lectures, take notes, or were often absent.
Great teacher, listener, and story teller. Unlike some teachers at CSU Mr. Cope truly knows how to teach and reach students.
Professor Cope was very clear about his expectations. He made the class very interesting. I learn a lot.
Don Cope was the worst professor I have had since I came to CSU. He said on the first day of classes that he retired like 30 years ago. And I wish he would have stayed that way. His lectures were incomprehensible. He jumps all over the place on a historical timeline. Taking notes is impossible for that class. DO NOT TAKE THIS OLD MAN!
HE'S OK. TRIES TO KEEP THE CLASS ALIVE WITH VIVID LECTURES. HE CURSES ALOT. SOMETIMES COMES OFF RUDE. GRADES NICELY. TESTS AND QUIZZES ARE JUST WHAT HE LECTURES. SO TAKE NOTS WISLEY AND ALWAYS. NO EXTRA CREDIT.TESTS ARE LONG. QUIZZES ARE EVERY CLASS PERIOD. DOES NOT USE THE COURSE BOOK AT ALL DURING THE COURSE.
Professor cope is a good professor. But his quizzes are on a daily basis and his tests are like ten pages long with NO multiple choice. He is a Very nice man with a sense of humor but tends to skip around so much that it confuses you.
Did not like Copey. He jumped around constantly. I take good notes usually, but my notes made no sense. I pretty much gave up after a while. Required to read manhunt, good book, but only positive side in the class. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Took him for history to 1865. He doesn't keep track of the curriculum and will ask the students for questions because he doesn't know what to test you on. The book was a waste of $90. The tests were LONG like 400 questions and you had NO multiple choice. This class was incredibly difficult and as an A student I struggled tremendously.
I LOVE Professor Cope! I have learned SO much in his class. Sure he has alot of quizzes and stuff but if you paid attention and took notes then you'd be fine. I look forward to going to his class because he is very humorous! He does cuss but he is still awesome. He knows ALOTTTT about history.
Very good professor, always helpful and clear on what he wants. He does cuss a lot but it's usually amusing and helps make his points. He also wanders off on odd tangents, but they too are usually very interesting and help keep everyone interested. If you come to class and pay attention you should get an A, and you will learn a great deal too.
This professor is will talk non-stop about the most random things I've ever heard. I made an A in his class, but only because I took APUSH in high school, and still remembered most of it. If you know a lot about history this class will be a breeze. If you don't, you do have to work hard for an A.
I did not enjoy this class. If you're into trivia and random facts about history, this is the class for you. He doesn't believe in organization, so therefore the class is all over the place. You get about 4 tests and a bunch of quizzes. He is a great person and very funny in class, but gets off topic easily, and does not go in chronological order.
Incredibly unorganized and incomprehensible. Teaches lecture from the top of his head. Gives test 150+ fill in the blank questions. Goes off topic a lot. Only 2 major tests and 2 book tests. Fail one of those and you can say goodbye to that A due no extra credit. If you NEED organization in your class than I warn you, DO NOT take his class. DO NOT
FUNNY. I love his class, he keeps you interested all class long. Strays off topic alot and doesnt follow the book very well at all but he is super sweet. Attend class every day and pay attentiona nd youll for sure make an A. Take good notes, even on his off topic rants, he will cover the material you think he was just saying for no reason.
I was unaware that U.S. history included the history of Portugal, Africa, Spain, and Indonesia until I got to the second half of Cope's class. Do NOT take this class unless you don't want to learn about American History. Do yourself a favor. Easy, but I'd rather be in a class that stuck to the topic.
This teacher is very scatter brained and unorganized. The second half of the semester wasn't even about US history! STAY AWAY!!!
THIS IS THE HARDEST CLASS I HAVE TAKEN IN MY LIFE. HE IS A TEACHER THAT KNOWS HISTORY YOU WOULD LEARN A LOT BUT HE IS NOT ORGANIZED IF YOU ARE LOVER OF HISTORY , YOU READ AND WATCH HISTORY CHANNELS I GUESS YOU WOULD BE FINE. SINCE HE DIDN'T USUALLY USE A TEXTBOOK HIS CLASS WAS SO DIFFICULT.I WOULD NEVER TAKE HIM AGAIN.
this guy was all over the place, one day he talked about the correct way to cut a watermelon, we had to learn the entire eastern seaboard, including rivers and lakes and the first 16 presidents, the tests were ridiculously hard, and his grading system is way too complicated, I wasted my entire summer retaking this class only to fail again.
If you are an organized person, this class blows. If you are good at history, this class will be a breeze. Make sure you study your notes and write down everything he says because they will be on the quizzes and tests. You must attend class to pass. Nice guy, but wouldn't recommend it for people not good at History.
ErFantastic teacher. His teaching style is great if you want to learn why the us was founded in the way it was, and want to learn a lot of the backstory of the united states. This class was comprehensive and I'm able.to remeber a bunch of us history now . Great teacher, and his all over the place teaching style worked well with me.
Great teacher who really knows his stuff. You have to go to class to do well and you also NEED to pay attention. It shouldn't be hard to pay attention though as he is very entertaining. Don't worry about getting the text book, just take notes.
All over the place but fun! I loved this teacher. I learned quite a bit, and found his class to be interesting and challenging. While its not something that you can snooze through, if you pay attention and take notes on everything he says, you will do fine. You probably won't need the textbook, but you might need the other books he assigns.
He was a very interesting teacher. He made the class VERY enjoyable with his various examples to explain events in history. He's an awesome professor who knows what he is talking about. We didn't use the book much and the information on the quizzes and tests pretty much came from the notes. Take good notes, and you are guaranteed to pass!
I'm in the middle of taking this guy's class and i regret it. Yes he's fun but he is so scatter brained, his quizzes come outta no where and we don't even talk about what we're supposed to be learning. I recommend taking another professor.
I like him. If you pay attention, do the assignments, keep notes on practically everything he says you will do fine. You can always come into class every day expecting a quiz. He gives a lot of quiz's. He gives you a lot of buffer room too, just don't ask for extra credit. He's a great history teacher, take him its worth the time and effort.
Great history professor. If you pay attention, take good notes, and study you will pass the class with a A+. He gives you a good buffer on quiz's and for attending class he add an extra 1% to your final grade, just don't ask him for extra credit. He can trail off, but it can break the monotony. You learn a lot and have fun take him you'll like it.
Horrible. Too many tests and quizzes. A very random/all over the place class. DONT DO IT.
Hes a good professor. He gives a lot of information and goes off topic a lot. He loves to talk about his life. His mini quiz were easy. You have to take good notes if you want to pass. He gives huge exams with more than a 100 questions. YOU MUST STUDY if you want to pass.
Many say they don't like him due to his "scatter brained" teaching style, but he actually teaches background info so that you understand why things happen. He can get off topic, but overall this was a EASY class, and I made an A! LISTEN TO WHAT HE SAYS IN LECTURES. Tests are rather difficult, but not impossible. Be a good student and you'll be fine
Make sure you write down everything he says and study it over and over...otherwise you will FAIL
Very nice teacher! Tells jokes and makes the class interesting. Write down everything he says minus his personal stories. At the very least read over your notes an hour before class so that you do good on the quizzes.
HORRIBLE.HE DOESNT BELIEVE IN ANYTHING THAT HAS TO DO W/ MODERN TECHNOLOGY FOR THAT MATTER. HIS NOTES HE WRITES ON THE BOARD ARE USELESS. YOU REALLY HAVE TO LISTEN AND WRITE DOWN THINGS THAT HE SAYS BUT HE DOESNT LIKE TO REPEAT HIMSELF. HE QUIZZES SUCK BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT TO STUDY. HIS RANDOM STORIES ARE NO USE. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS!
Dr Cope is a great professor. Go to class, take notes on his lectures, and read over your notes about 30 minutes before each class and you will do fine. He gives you many opportunities for extra credit points. This was NOT a hard class. Very easy A.
I liked him a lot actually. He does give quizzes almost daily but it really helps your overall grade if you study a little each day. He gives a ton of extra points too that can carry over to help with his tests (which are much harder than the quizzes). Some people might find his sense of humor offensive, but I personally like it.
DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS. YOU WILL REGRET IT! HE IS VERY RUDE AND DOES NOT CARE IF YOU FAIL. HE HAS HIS DAYS WHERE HES VERY GRUMP AND TENDS TO DISAGREE WITH A LOT OF PEOPLE FOR NO REASON! Save your money take some one else!
Awesome!
The good: Cope is funny and a great story teller. He keeps you interested with his deep knowledge of history and slightly off-color comments. The bad: There is no organization or flow to his lectures. He talks, you take notes, and he tests you. It is difficult to predict what material he will quiz you on. "Which president never married?" Who cares?
Cope can be funny. He knows so much history that he skips around as you're trying to take notes. Makes it hard to stay organized. Have to read a novel and take 2 tests over it. Have a midterm(197) & final(230 questions). Daily quizzes and extra test questions help improve your grade. Unless you love the subject study at least 2x a week. I made an A
Cope is a funny teacher and knows his stuff. Practically has daily quizzes. My only real problem is that he does not have a syllabus nor study guides. He lectures us about whatever is on his mind. No chronological order. You absolutely have to study. And he is a very old school professor: chalkboard, chalk, & literally a long lecture.
Horrible teaching style. He made it almost impossible to take notes because he talked too fast. He comes up with his lectures off the top of his head. He doesn't use the text book and has random quizzes almost every single class period. I do not recommend anyone to take this class with this professor.
Cope is a great teacher! Class is entirely lecture based, he will tell you to buy the book but he won't use it at all. Taking notes is super important and the only way to do well. He gives daily quizzes which really help you retain the material and give lots of bonus point opportunities. I'd definitely recommend taking him!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. It is horrible. I was really excited to take this because I love US history but this professor has ruined it. This class isn't even US History. It's more of a world history class. You get his notes from him speaking. Yes he writes things on the board, but its all scrambled. Worst teacher I have ever had. I do not recommend.
Do not take this course if you don't already have a vast knowledge of world history. Yes the class is about U.S. History, but he travels across the world. No syllabus, no study guides, no real modern structure. Truly a lecture-type class. He knows his stuff and with LOTS of studying you can get an A, but his teaching style makes it difficult.
Professor Cope is great. Go ahead and memorize the first 16 presidents NOW. There are SERIOUSLY DAILY QUIZZES. Mostly on the 1-2 days lecture before. But he does revisit stuff often. Study your notes daily and you will do fine. You never touch the book. No need to buy. Don't miss one day of class if you can help it.
Do NOT take this class.
Cope will lecture the entire allotted time. He will give many pop quizzes throughout the semester. Every exam he gives will consist of multiple choice questions, and a related map which he will require you to label. Don't worry, he will give you one in advance to label yourself and study. Want to be a better student of history? Then, take Cope.
Do not take this class if you don't plan on being there every day. He doesn't use a text book, so you have to write down every single thing he says. He also likes to test us on things that he didn't teach us, but taught the other classes
The only grades he gives is one homework assignment, and a bunch of "pop quizzes" that you have almost every class, and 3-4 big tests. IF YOU CAN'T.. memorize material well and take good notes (literally write down everything he says and everything on the board) DO NOT take this class.
Take notes on what he says and be ready for a quiz every class. Lots of bonus points opportunities. Grades each quiz as if it's 10 question. If you get more than 10 correct then you get bonus points. Made a 104 in this class did not have to take the final.
No need to buy the book, just listen and take notes. Be ready for a quiz almost everyday.
Please be aware and mindful before taking this classs!!! Very hard and is kind of mean.
Professor Cope is a great Professor, but his class is no joke. You have study to pass. There is a quiz literally every single class, and there are two big test and two mini test over a book that you have to read. He is helpful. He is very passionate about history and wants you to learn. If you are not willing to work, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
This Class is extremely challenging simply because of the Professor, He never stays focus. He gives you a Quiz everyday but there not on the material you cover the day before. He is anal about things he feel should be a certain way. he knows the material but goes on so many tangents its really hard to stay focus. His Midterm is 157 questions.
Stay away from this class. The guy is rude. Extremely rude. He gives quizzes everyday and taking notes isn't optional. If you want to pass, write down EVERYTHING he says. Test are about 200 questions long and half of it is fill in the blank. Also, if your running late to class, don't even bother going. He'll mark you absent. First D i've ever made.
I absolutely love this professor. I'm not really a US History kind of person but he made this class enjoyable. Some people may think he's rude but he's just sarcastic. I thought he was hilarious. He goes over everything, you just have to listen closely. Quizzes & tests are easy if you take good notes and study. I enjoyed this class very much.
QUIZZES EVERY CLASS! Missed 2 classes and almost failed. Very knowledgeable about the topic. Remember every single thing he says because alot of it will be in tests or quizzes later and not necessarily in the next quiz. Lectures from start to finish. Funny guy and very sarcastic.
He is a bit funny but that is the only good thing about this class. He does a quiz every single class so if you don't know everything and every name then u get it wrong. Also if you spell someones name wrong, wrong as well.
He gives quizzes almost everyday and they are based on his lectures. The problem is that sometimes his lectures go off topic or there is something on the quizzes that he didn't even mention so it's not in your notes. Most of the time you are too busy trying to write down EVERYTHING he says so you are not even paying attention to the overall lecture
Dont take this professor unless you are only taking this class and have time to study every little detail of what he says. doesn't use power points or books just talks and writes key words on the board
You will have a quiz nearly every class, there not impossible to pass and spelling doesn't matter. His bigger test's (Midterm, Short readings, Book quiz) require ALOT of studying (1+hour) and for the quizzes remember stuff from the day before and you should do fine. Can take notes on tech and take good notes to pass. Overall to much work for me
Nice professor, but teaching sucks. You wont learn anything about U.S. And having no book seems awesome, but trying to listen/note-take is a nightmare. His lectures all over the place; its confusing. I had to record lectures w/ my iphone. Gives daily fill-in-the-blank quiz, & final exam is 200 questions, which are all fill-in-the-blank. RUN!
Flat out rude
It is EXTREMELY important to miss as little days of class as possible He does not use a book, he lectures the entire class period, don't doze off. He can answer pretty much any question you ask related to the subject matter. Extremely sarcastic, but with a pinch of humor on top.
The 166 question fill in the blank midterm and final caused me to have an anxiety attack. If you value your sanity, do not take him. I cried when I saw my final grade was a C because he told me that he thought I'd come out with a D and I would hate to retake this class.
Cope works well with you if you communicate with him. You HAVE to take notes in his class to be able to pass. There is not a power point with slides, so all notes come off of what he says in class. You do not have to purchase the book but it will help if you do purchase it. There is also a quiz almost every week, sometimes two quizzes a week.
You have to read 2 huge books and you have 2 tests for each book. The midterm and final are 160 questions and very hard. YOU NEED TO TAKE NOTES! Almost every week you will have a quiz and it doesn't matter if you're coming back from a break or a weekend, he expects you to know the information. If you don't show up you will fail his class.
Had Mr. Cope 30 years ago for a vatiety of courses. Execellent person
