hard tests. you never get out early. class makes me sleepy....
annoying. too educated.
awesome teacher, very knowledgeable, recommend class...just study!
very articulate & knowledgeable; very helpful & caring; makes Phil. interesting
smart guy, knows a lot of stuff, class can be boring, his tangents are interesti
smart man but too boring, hated the class
This man is the reason I'm a philosophy major. His classes were great. It's a shame he'll be leaving us for the year. He'll be missed
best professor I ever had! Super smart, helpful, kind, and very interesting!
Top notch, the class was semi difficult, but he did a great job explaining the material, I might become a phil major because of him

He is awesome. He's a good teacher and a great person. I hate PAR, but I took two of his classes becasue he's so wonderful. When he comes back take any class he teaches
best teacher at uncw...extremely smart, well rounded, and knowledgable...need to study and attend class but its well worth it...EXCELLENT teacher!
HE WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE PROFESSORS AT UNCW, OF ALL THE FOUR YEARS I SPENT THERE HE IS ONE OF 3 I REALLY LOOKED FORWARD TO ATTENDING CLASS.
Awesome teacher---makes you interested in the subject!
knows everything. tends to run some tangents because any topic that comes up he knows a plethora about it. Nice guy. Only grades are midterm and final...kinda intimidating. class is fun-get involved he loves questions...
Great Prof. Is able to make sometimes dry material into really hilarious and interesting stuff. Not all that difficult either, as long as you're willing to put in some effort.
AWESOME!!!
AWESOME!! Take his class. I swear his final exam somehow opened my mind to new ideas. But that is what this class is all about opening your mind to new possiablities. One problem: A bit on the conservative side (but not forceful or hypocritical about in any way.)
AWESOME!!! Nothing else to say
One of the best profs at UNCW. Facilitates great philosophical discussions that everyone gets involved in. Class is a breeze as long as you do your work. BTW, I Don't think it's fair to peg him as a Conservative or Liberal though, as he has sound philosophical reasoning and is sure never to offend.
he is a good teacher but it is a hard class!
very smart man... you will learn a lot but he only has 2 tests... but the mid term had a really big curve!!!
He's the best professor I've taken. SUPER smart, interesting, and fair. He knows all about everything and makes everything clear. One midterm, a final, and lots of extra credit assignments. His class is a great learning experience.
Very even in his presentation of the materials. Excellent opportunity for controlled arguing with classmates. I've contacted him since leaving the school for advice and information.
He's the best professor I think I have ever had, hands down.

I thought this class was incredibly easy, but the subject was interesting to me. Habibi tells great stories, readings aren't hard (or necessary if you come to class), and he seems to really care about his students. I liked going to this class, even though my attendance in other classes is spotty at best. TAKE HABIBI.
Incredible man. Very smart. Extremely interesting. Very clear. Unbiased. One midterm, a final, and lots of extra credit assignments. I would recommend taking any class offered by him.
HORRIBLE PROF. I really don't get why anyone would think he's good or nice. The class is unbelievably hard for a 100 level class and he is def. not a nice guy like others said. My favorite was after our first our exam when he said that he probably would have gotten some of the questions wrong if he had taken it! DO NOT TAKE HABIBI!!
Greatest professor ever. Very laid back, so don't stress about tests. Took about 20 pages of notes the whole semester. Just make sure you know them up and down. Take him if you can!!!
Precious, PRECIOUS man. Knows so much about so many things. Can come off like he's on a high horse, but I don't think he means to, he's just so much smarter than most people. Makes material understandable in lectures. Great guy!
I liked this class. This is not a b.s. class, and his tests are hard. Make sure you know PEOPLE, not just he theories. It was a really interesting class, he is super smart...just took him awhile to get started each class...spent too much time on logistics. If you want to get something out of philosophy, take habibi :)
Terrible teacher. Thinks the world of himself and is useless as a teacher. Definetly take someone else or another class for you PAR basic studies credit.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!!!!
Don't like this class. He's obviously a smart guy, but he can not hold my attention. And all he wants to do the whole class is pick a fight about some theory. I don't speak even though it could count against me in the end, just because if you speak your mind he will go back and forth with you the rest of class trying to prove he is right. Ughhh
His class is defnitley not easy but if you take notes and study you'll be fine. He also gives alot of extra credit opportunities. He's really interesting and tries to be funny. Good class.
His tests are not that hard as long as you study for them. The applied ethics part of the class was the most interesting. Compared to what i've heard about most of the other teachers, his class is the easiest. Plus he has really interesting stories to tell and he is a very well educated man!
A fun guy, though overclarifies things a lot to the point of being obnoxious.
Habibi is a really easy going professor. His tests are easy if you study, but lecture can get "off course" sometimes..other than that, if you need to ethics take him...easy A or B
Nice guy- terrible professor. Hated going to class. We spent forever every class meeting with him talking back and fourth with one other student in the class that would never stop talking. Drove me crazy! The stuff they would spend forever talking about was never going to be on the tests. He's nice but I didn't like the class at all.
All green/blue faces are honestly retarded. Don is terribly NICE, FAIR, and for the most part, FAIRLY EASY. Had him for Intro-Ethics, got him again for 495 (Equality seminar). REALLY cares about whther students are soaking info. Good enough prof that green/blue faces actually make me kinda pissed. Good guy, good class.
He is a really nice guy but i cant stand to go to class. It is not useful to me at all. We just look over the notes and then talk about nothing important and get way off topic. You have to study for the test to do good and read the notes because you do not cover much in class.
Good teacher and funny at times. Habibi does care about students and there grades. Class was boring and not much use to me.
Habibi is a real gem in the rough. Not only is the man brilliant, but he's also kind, funny and caring. I took many courses from him, ranging 115 to 400 levels, and he's a can't miss. I can only assume that his detractors on here are dejected Freshmen who *gasp* couldn't handle having their infallible assumptions about the world questioned.
great professor. really helps the students out. make sure you read and listen though, the tests are not easy
Dr. Habibi is by far one of the best professors I have ever had, he actually cares about you as an individual student, not just a number in his class. He will do everything he can to help you outside of the classroom. Tests are only hard if you don't read and pay attention, he gives you everything you need to get an A! Highly recommended.
One of the few teachers I was sad that I wouldn't be taking again. He is a great teacher of philosophy. He emails his notes to you before class and then goes over them in detail in class. Two tests and a final make up the only grades. If there is ever something you don't understand he will make sure he explains it to you in terms you understand.
By far! the most helpful, nice, and caring teacher @ uncw. how many other profs give their students their house phone number? great guy, class is all lecture so it can be dry sometimes depending on the material. overall excellent class, relatively difficult compared to other 100 level classes but you should have no problem getting a A/B. recommend
take this class. awesome teacher. 3 online test plus extra credit make up your final grade. He loves interactive discussions and truly cares about you learning the material. funny guy, sometimes brings his kids to class. I'm sad I don't get to take him again.
Great teacher. Has written me many a recommendations and will sit down with you and talk about them. In terms of teacher he is very clear, just take good notes and you will do great. Have to study though. But it's really the teacher that makes the class and he is an amazing one.
Dr. Habibi is an excellent Professor. I have taken four courses with him and would recommend him to anyone interested in Philosophy, Ethics, and Political Philosophy. Take him!
Tons of information but completely vague on what exactly to focus on. Had to do online journals but no way to track my progress throughout the semester except through the ridiculous tests that I bombed even after studying quite a bit.
I haven't had any classes in the PAR dept. since I started at UNCW and I am a senior, however, Habibi was AWESOME and well worth taking! He has such great life experiences to bring to the material that makes it interesting and easy to learn. Great guy. Great class. Hands down! Take him if you can!
Great guy, but his lectures were so incredibly boring. He rambled on and on... Everything was pretty vague and he'd never give you a straight answer if you asked a question. Online tests are pretty hard too.
Habibi is an awesome and smart guy but doesn't really teach the material in class. Lectures are boring and don't include much information, just rambling. Still go because some test questions will come from class. Tests online are hard but doable if you study a lot. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Very interesting class. I recommend it highly.
I love Professor Habibi! He doesn't have class a lot because he lives in Myrtle Beach, so it's a nice break. He is just such a nice and funny guy and he's very easy to talk to. His tests are a bit on the hard side, but if you study you will do fine. I would definitely recommend taking him, and take the time to get to know him!
Nice teacher. Only met once a week usually and never on fridays. Notes and video lectures are online and exams weren't too bad if you pay attention. I would recommend him for PAR 115.
Excellent teacher. Lectures are very interesting, helpful and relevant. Class meets Monday and Wednesday but not Friday. Material is all available online. Highly recommended.
Love, Love, Love Dr. Habibi!!! One of the best at uncw!
Nice professor. Terrible class. Save yourself and do not take an online class with him.
Completely vague with his grading format. I took this course online and felt I learned a lot but my overall grade was not what I had hoped for. I studied quite a bit and did terribly on his timed exams. I would not recommend this class online.
Excellent Professor! Dr. Habibi is a gem in the UNCW Philosophy Department! Interesting and willing to help with any needs! Highly recommended.
Super nice guy. GO TO HIS OFFICE. It is to your advantage If he likes you and you contributed to the class at the end of the semester. Tests are timed, but not too bad if you study. And open-note. MWF class, but almost always only met on Wednesdays. Take Habibi.
I would not recommend this teacher to anyone looking to gain a positive experience through class. His grading method is completely unjust, his lessons follow absolutely zero structure, and although it says it's MWF it might as well be online. DONT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Honestly UNCW needs to rethink its hiring practice.
This class pretty much like online although is said MWF. his lecture r completely from his notes so is useless to go to his class but is mandatory. his exam, especially MC, comes way beyond the notes so pls prepared google and yahoo when u take the exam but i heard he gonna change the exam method next year, so good luck!
great professor! very interesting lectures and very helpful and fair.
He is a nice guy, but has a terrible grading system. His tests are very hard, because he doesn't teach in class. The online notes and lectures posted are not helpful on tests either because half of the information is not there. Only take this class if you really like the subject and want to research the information for yourself.
Habibi never had class. Throughout the semester maybe had 10 meetings. Online exams are hard because he doesn't give you enough time to complete them. Notes are long and boring. The days he does have class he rambles on for the whole hour about random topics. Would not take again.
For a 100 level class this class is very difficult. All his tests are online but he barely gives you any time and the questions are insanely difficult. He barley goes over anything in class, and class is only held once a week. He uses a bell curve as his grading scale so its hard to tell how your doing in the class. I would avoid.
This is the worst class I have ever taken. We barely had class and his lecturesnotes were not helpful at all for the exam. The only grades in his class were 2 exams and a final which was 50% of your grade. He is very unclear when answering questions and his grading system somehow only gave 4 out of 60 students an A.
If you would like to make studying for ethics your full time job by all means this is the course for you. Taking this as a summer class and realistically if you want to get even a B in here you will have to treat it as a full time job with overtime as I was spending upwards of 50-60 hours a week just trying to not fall behind..
Dr. Habibi is an awesome professor. Those who didn't like the toughness of his class were just looking for a mediocre level education and easy A. Prof. Habibi is one of the most educated professors at the school and is a very forgiving and easy grader. No tests, 2 papers, and I only attended 5 classes all semester.
Dr. Habibi's course was a tough hybrid one. Meaning that half was online and half was in class. He offered class time for questions, but he was always out so there were barely any actual in class sessions. The course is mostly a self taught class so be prepared for a lot of reading.
Dr. Habibi was absolutely amazing as an online teacher; he gave great feedback and he constantly reminded you about due dates.
Habibi is the worst professor I have ever had. He goes on random tangents that have nothing to do with the topic. His tests ask about his own opinions on things. His tests are online and gives you an impossible time limit for questions (ie; 18 questions in 15 minutes). You have no clue your grade throughout the semester- grades based on his opinion
This is the worst professor I have ever had in my college career. The only grades are 2 midterms and 1 final. He is *incapable* of getting through an entire lecture without going off on random side stories. The tests are online but timed and only gives you about 10 mins for 20 questions. I'm currently failing because of his failure as a professor!!
Habibi is a very funny and unique professor. I found his lectures very interesting, but his online tests are a bit tricky. He doesn't grade by the normal average percent, but he grades based off of competition in the class. This can be a bit stressful for not knowing your grade, but he will meet with you to talk about your standing in the class!
I will probably fail this class because the lectures make no sense and when we go to talk the tests they are 11 minutes for 15 questions where you have to type the answer and you won't know the answer. Just a heads up unless this is your only class, don't do it
Very bad at lectures. The lecture notes and lectures have little to do with the tests. You are graded on two midterms and a final with some extra credit opportunities. The class is hard but in the end, is graded on an easy curve.
This professor hardly ever answers the questions we ask in class. He will go off on random topics that don't have any significance to the questions asked. His tests have two sections to them that are both timed, one multiple choice and the other is definitions. He doesn't give enough time to do the definitions and then expects A's on all the tests.
Was very rude to me when I spoke with him. He made me feel stupid when I tried asking him questions about what I did not understand. This will be the first failing class of my entire college career. I worked over 30 hours a week on this summer class. Do not take this professor.
Amazing teacher, hard to learn in class if you dont take the notes before that are given on canvas. Also does a huge curve at the end and turned my C- into a B! Also very funny and makes it easy to understand the material.
Habibi talks the whole time with no powerpoints or visuals and will ramble about something random. I didn't learn anything in this class. The grade is solely based off od two tests and the final.
This guy might be extremely competent in the field of philosophy but not in teaching. His lectures are so brutal to get through. He goes off on tangents non-stop, its almost not worth attending lectures because of it. His notes that he distributes online are completely unorganized and it is impossible to find the course material you're looking for.
He was a confusing lecturer and pretty boring. I was not motivated to go to his class at all and did not enjoy it. He did give many extra credit opportunities and allowed his students to improve at the end of the semester by a lot though. He's not the worst professor you could have, but not the best either.
Lectures are borderline useless and there are no assignments or grades besides two midterms and the final. He does not give enough time for answering the fill in the blank section on tests and he brags to have not given higher than an 82 on an essay in his 20+ years of teaching. Curves grades to an 80 average and has zero understanding of canvas.
Professor Habibi is truly one of the worst professors I have ever taken. The whole class is based on three exams which he fails to specify what they will be about and has very little understanding of how Canvas works. The exams are three parts, vocab, multiple-choice, and a short essay. The multiple-choice is often 18 questions with only 17 minutes
Professor Habibi was VERY tough online. His lectures are 2-4 hours long. You must take careful notes and only look to the lecture notes he provides as reference. He struggles to understand Canvas and is overall not prepared. He constantly changes times and dates of assignments, making it very hard to follow along.
Dr. Habibi has been one of the most influential professors in my life. He is one of the smartest people you will ever interact with. Further, he really cares about his students. I have taken him for three courses plus a thesis and he was also my internship advisor. In each of these roles, he made sure I had everything I needed to succeed.
Professor Habibi has been my least favorite professor by far. He doesn't actually teach much by interaction, just reads his own notes word for word. You only have three exams that make up your total grade, and you have no idea what your grade is in the class until the very end because of his point system.
Professor Habibi does not care about the success of his students. He does not give clear feedback on grades. The only grades you have are tests and some extra credit assignments that he gives over email. You get 15 minutes to answer 16 short answer definition questions for the midterm. I am never able to finish and have rush. DO NOT take him.
He gave extremely boring lectures. The exams were EXTREMELY hard and he wasn't helpful when you didn't understand. The only grades were 3 exams, no other things so if you do bad on exams you will fail. Very few extra credit things and class information is very difficult to understand.
Dr. Habibi is a very interesting lecturer and he teaches the information well however he does not understand technology as much as he should as an online lecturer. He also only gives three exams which comprise of your entire grade. He does offer extra credit but they only give you a few points extra not much.
He is boring and terrible with technology. He is a terrible online teacher and I would never recommend taking this class. His tests are near impossible to do well on.
he's a good person, but not a good professor. the only grades were exam grades, and there are 2 the whole semester and then a final exam. lectures are long and all he does is talk. no other assignments to help you with your grade. you get occasional extra credit assignments that barely help bring up your grade, but they're papers.
I do not recommend this professor to anyone! He was traveling the world towards the end of the semester and would blame not being email accessible on his travels. He does not care about his students, is extremely difficult to understand, and has boring and rigorous lectures. I barely passed this class with a C. I do not recommend him to ANYONE!
doesn't actually talk about what will be on the test during lectures. also grades based off 3 tests. has a strong curve but you won't know your grade ever until it is in seanet. 0/10 do not reccomend
Great Guy & Great Teacher.
I didnt like how he only gave 3 tests the entire semester and we never had any assignments so I bombed the first test and my grade was terrible the whole semester because of that one test.
Habibi is stubborn and needs to adjust to the times, as he is unwilling to learn canvas thoroughly. Most coursework was overcomplicated, with standards far higher than a 100 level course, and he treated the course to ridiculous levels of seriousness. Overall, being a challenging course with nothing substantial to take away from the whole experience
Don has become one of my favorite professors, he is so willing to help students that are passionate about getting a good grade! Par115 is super easy if you have proper studying habits (make flashcards)! Super email responsive as well! IF YOU MAKE A BAD GRADE ON THE EXAM PLEASE TAKE HIS OFFER AND REVIEW THE EXAM TOGETHER, CAN GIVE ADDITIONAL CREDIT!
Dr. Habibi is a very insightful philosophy professor with a wealth of knowledge who isn't afraid to discuss gritty and uncomfortable topics. Lectures/reading are vital to do well in this class as it's curved overall. There are only tests and extra credit assignments so understanding your professor and the material go a long way to being successful.
Dr. Habibi is an exceptional professor. His lectures are interesting, and it is clear he has a passion for his work. I saw the comments before the course, particularly in regards to exams, but I think that point is blown out of proportion. If you struggle, he is easy to reach, highly open and will genuinely help you.
This is a very hard class, however Professor Habibi is clear about what he expects and he is a very generous grader! I feel like I genuinely improved my studying habits by taking this course. The class itself is hard, but he is very willing to help you so take the opportunity!
He didn't do any assignment and only had three midterms therefore if you got a bad grade on even one midterm your grade would plumet. Only gave us a bunch of readings with bold points as our "study guide" then the midterms wouldn't be accurate and were hard.
This professor did not answer questions at all. Did not post any type of study guide or practice tests for exams. Your grade is solely based on your midterms, and he has a really weird grading system.
There is no reason a 100-level course should be this hard. No matter how much I studied I still failed his tests and my grades were higher than the class average. He grades on a curve but it's stressful not knowing where you stand till the course ends. He also rarely answers emails and ignores his asynchronous class. Hes nice but it's not worth it.
Nothing that was in the class was on the finail. A three hour long final and did not want to help the student at all.
Professor Habibi is one of the worst I've had. His Zoom lectures are boring and full of irrelevant tangents. Exams are in three parts: fill-in-the-blank with no word bank (50+ terms), multiple choice, and written responses. Despite studying for 10+ hours, I didn't do well, and he questioned my effort afterward. Avoid his class.
I took this course because I needed to fill a requirement I thought this class was gonna be an easy online course. The professor is a harsh grader and exam heavy. The only grades are the exams and they are extremely hard and no study guide is provided. Don't recommend.
Dr. Habibi is a caring and generous man, however his course could be better. Intro to Ethics is graded on 3 exams that determine your score + extra credit, lectures are online, and he gives note outlines to study. Prepare to spend a lot of time understanding the material to do well on exams. I hope he can add assignments in the future.
Lectures are boring and confusing. The only grades are 3 exams and extra-credit that is not worth enough points to do anything. He grades really weird so you do not know the final grade until it is in Seanet. Exams use a lock-down browser and are very hard.
This class is challenging, but Professor Habibi provides clear expectations. Engage with the course material, use study tools like Unstuck study, and take advantage of the professor's willingness to help - you can improve your studying habits and earn a solid grade.
Professor Habibi is very nice and wants the best for all his students, but he is literally so confusing. The exams are rough, and teh questions are niche. Not a lot of other assignments other than extra credit. His grading system is actually impossible to figure out, based off points and you literally need to ask him what your grade is. Stressful!
He is the best person! He really cares about his students and is always open for a chat. I personally loved his lectures. Grades by 3 exams and extra credit (fun and easy stuff). Whatever your grade on canvas is is not actual grade (had a 60 and got a B). If you stress abt grades don't take him. He's super fun! I didn't use textbook
Loved his class
You only get graded on the midterm and final so goodluck!
He got handed our course spontaneously over break when our original professor had to leave unexpectedly. He did an amazing job. Very responsive and helpful when I had questions. He could be a tough grader depending on the assignment, but overall, I did not find his homework to be too difficult.
He was good at responding to emails promptly, but only graded 3 exams and extra credit. So make sure to study well for exams.
Don Habibi is very knowledgeable about ethics, but it is hard to succeed in his class, with there only being notes available in Canvas, which were hand typed (not in any kind of bullet point format but rather long, long paragraphs), and Zoom meetings (fortunately, he records). There is not much to work with.
Only grades 2 exams and the final. A few extra credit opportunities, but good luck for those who take it.
