Hilerious! Get to know him and talk to him after class. He knows his stuff. Lectures can be a little dry and tests are fairly tough. Study the online quizzes.
Prof. Hackney is probably the best teacher i have ever had. He is so funny, and he has a couple really cute daughters at GU.
Really nice guy, but his lectures are all over the place and the test are just spring up. I wouldn't take him again, but I am pretty sure he is the only teacher!
Hackney might be a nice guy... But his class is incredibly difficult. The tests are pretty much impossible to get an A (or even a B) on. His lectures cover a chapter for each one and they don't cover nearly enough to prepare you for tests. Basically, there's a lot of lame law terms to memorize & there's about a week and a half between each test.
Funny guy, but his tests will suck!
He's a funny guy, and his tests can be hard if you don't study at all. Don't listen to what other people say, a B is definitely not out of the picture as he grades the tests on a curve. He also tells you, in the class before the test, exactly what subjects will be covered on the test. I learned a lot in his class and enjoyed it too.
This class is not a cake walk, but a B is very attainable. Unlike most classes, this one will actually help me outside of college and this guy really knows what hes talking about. People **** about his tests, but people get **** and dont study. Deal with it. Interesting class, good examples, and nice guy that knows his****.
Business Law is one of the few classes I have taken that I can apply the information to my own life and I actually learned alot in the class. The material is dry, but he tries to make it as interesting as possible. He cares about his students and if you study enough, you'll get a descent grade in the class.
This was definately a hard class, you better completely understand everything for the tests.
Tests are challenging but are do-able as long as you look at the class notes and take the online quizzes. Makes a dry subject interesting.
Very straight foward lecture course. Grade 100% on tests. Have a laptop or recorder so you can wholly capture his test review lectures. NOTE: he only had q's from test bank 1 semester on accident. Dont spend too much time on that if u heard he pulls q's from there. Good instructor overall...not that u have a choice at GU for biz law! ;)
Dr. Hackney made a somewhat dull subject a bit more lively. I do wish that he'd given us more short quizzes to get used to the question format before the exams. They were tough, but a lot of the questions came from the online examples. So that was effective study time spent, checking out the text's website.
He has a very dry sense of humor but the lectures are okay. I find myself getting tired a lot though. Tests are not that bad as long as you study and know all of the material that will be on the test.
Very dry and boring lectures. Tests are really straight forward though.
He doesn't follow lecture notes, so you have to read the book for the tests. The tests are really hard, and he has a weird curving system, so if everyone in your class is smart, it lowers your grade.
His tests take a lot of preperation and a good chunck of them are true and false which tend to be really hard. His lectures are interesting and he always talks about running over girl scouts and being impaled by sharp objects and that tends to keep the classes attention. It is a really interesting class but pretty difficult.
Excellent teacher. You must put the time before tests, 4 hours minimum and youll do fine
His reputation is pretty accurate- hard class, great teacher. Knows his stuff very well. Material can get dense but he makes it interesting. Pay attention to everything he writes on the board and to what he says the class before the tests. A good grade is possible if you put in the study hours.
Business Law w/ Hackney is a must take. This class was actually pretty fun and not too hard. He curves the grades BUT the exams take about 6-9 hours of studying to get an A. 4-5 for a B, etc. He's a tough grader, but what an amazing teacher and person to boot! Good professor Gonzaga -- definately a keeper here!! Go Hackney!
Hackney is BY MILES my favorite prof at Gonzaga. He is hilarious, and even tho the material is dry, he makes it interesting and memorable through humor. The tests were pretty hard, but if you attend class (and he DOES take attendance) then you should be just fine. LOVED HIM and enjoyed the class way more than expected.
One of my favorite professors at Gonzaga. The class isn't easy. It takes a lot of studying and reading, but it isn't impossible to get a good great. Plus he makes it really interesting.
I really like Hackney as a person, but did not like his teaching. He is funny, but sometimes his jokes are distracting. I never really know what he is lecturing about and his notes dont have headings. It's weird because he also grades on a bell curve, so half the class is destined to get a C or lower.
Super cool and funny guy. Not super cool and funny exams though. Seriously is hilarious with his insane examples (like having girl scouts get killed almost every day), but you reallyyy have to study for the exams. Cool guy though!
Gotta love D-Hack. Doesn't memorize names and doesn't try to but he is awesome. He is the only option and the only one that could make business law interesting
Great professor! The material is tough and dry, but he makes it as exciting and clear and I'd say possible. I would highly recommend this class and professor!
D-Hack is awesome! As long as you go to every class and read the chapters you can get A's on the tests. Only 4 tests and no other assignments. Each one requires quite a bit of studying but they aren't too difficult. Great prof for business law, but also the only one at Gonzaga.
Good professor. Although the subject material in the readings are usually very dry, he always finds ways to make what we are learning interesting. He really knows how to engage the class and make everybody learn, though sometimes he gives so many examples that the lesson becomes confusing. The exams are easy if you study the material diligently.
Prof. Hackney prepared me for law school better than any other prof I had at Gonzaga. You have to go to class and study hard, but if you do those two things you will excel in his class.
Prof. Hackney is a fantastic professor who explains the material very well. He is hilarious in-class and provides solid examples to help students understand the concepts. That being said, the exams are difficult and an "A" is hard to achieve. Watch out for the fill-in-the-blank questions. They are very hard when he wants specific one-word answers.
Hackney is a hilarious professor. He uses lots of examples and always finds away to make the super dry material interesting. The tests are relatively difficult, but he's very clear about what's on them, so just study hard and take good notes. Definitely pay attention to everything he writes on the board! All in all, great professor.
Course is offered three times a day, and you can attend any time which is very nice. Take good notes or get ahold of study guides and really, really study for the 4 tests, they are very difficult. Be sure to study your notes front and back. Don't just know the definitions of words, be able to state the word if given the definition.
Hackney is your only option for business law, but you wouldn't want to take the class from anyone else. He really knows the material and I really enjoyed his teaching style. Take notes and study for the tests and you will do fine. One of my favorite classes so far.
Hackney is funny and can answer any questions regarding the course content. However, the way he teaches doesn't help anyone learn. Tests are hard, but basically if you can retain info you will do well.
Is a funny teacher but as other people said the way he teaches makes it a hard class, gives very minimal in class note/powerpoints, requires a lot of memorizing the book and tests are not about what is gone over in class
The law dog is awesome! His lectures are very funny and he actually makes business law somewhat interesting. The only grades are four tests that tend to be difficult, but if you study a lot you will be fine. The exams are tough as advertised, but his grading curve helps. He is one of my favorite professors at Gonzaga so far.
The only option for busn law but he's awesome. Makes class interesting with jokes. This class is a lot of reading, plan on reading the text at least twice, rewatching his lectures online to fully grasp the concepts but do the work and the grades will come. Tests are straight from the text and lectures. No surprises here.
Hackney can't be beat. He's your only option for Business Law but you won't be sorry you had him. By far one of the funniest teachers on campus, he'll sometimes get carried away with his stories which makes learning confusing but it's all well worth it. NOTE: Keep up with your chapter reading and you'll do fine in the class.
I took this class online and had no problem with it. His lectures are long and can be boring, but he tells you everything he wants you to know. The exams are difficult but take good notes on the lectures and book and you'll be okay. He likes students to try hard. I learned a lot from his class!
Although he's very good looking, Professor Hackney was the toughest professor I ever took. He said in order to get an A in his class I would have to have a PhD. Who says that to their students.
Four exams in one semester. No homework, no quizzes. Read the assigned chapters twice before each exam and you'll be fine (even if you don't pay attention or attend class). He's a funny teacher. Sometimes the lectures seem drawn out, but the class isn't a bad one overall.
Hackney is a great guy BUT his lectures can be sort of boring, and his tests are close to impossible.
Tough Class. Really nice guy, but cursed with a really boring subject. I respected that he tried to spice up the lectures, however the class is just dry. Read the book, and get through the class.
The only grade you get is on the four tests. Thankfully the final isn't cumulative, but if you're bad at taking tests your screwed. He also has a weird curve distribution that makes it difficult to excel in the class.
Donald Hackney was the professor at GU that I respected and admired most. He helps every student know what will and won't be on the exam. Students who didn't do well on exams either didn't read or watch his videos on blackboard that he posts, outlining everything you need to know. He cares about his students and has tons of life experience.
Show up to class for credit 4 tests are the only way you get graded. READ THE BOOK. Read it thoroughly and multiple times before a test and you will be prepared for the test. Watch his video that is test review and the rest of the videos are unnecessary (the same as his lectures). If you dont learn by lectures just read the book while in class.
He's your only choice for business law, so you better like him. He is really funny and makes the subject pretty bearable. Your grade is based on 4 tests and nothing else. As long as you put in a lot of time studying, you'll be fine. He applies a pretty heavy curve, too. I can't complain about him or the class.
He gets a bad rap because the course is Business Law, so it's a tougher subject and it's very dry, but he does his best to spice up the concepts and basically tells you what's on the tests. He tries so hard to make his class fun and he deserves WAY more appreciation.
He is the only choice for business law but he is really interesting and tells good stories that help you remember things on test. I've never heard anyone say anything bad about him.
Hackney is an awesome prof. He makes the lectures fun and exciting
Hackney's a great professor and a great person. His class is really interesting and his dark humor makes stuff a lot easier to remember. I recommend you go talk to him during his office hours, he's almost always there. He's a great down to earth guy that'll help you with everything you need. He'll even help look over your lease agreements.
Professor Hackney is a good and hilarious professor. Either you hate or love his humor. He is very approachable and loves to chat. You wont do "great" in this class but he applies a significant curve to your grade. There are four tests that make up your grade, no homework but make sure to read.
Overall Hackney is a great professor, he is funny and easy to get along with in class. The class is all lecture and word for word what he taught 10+ years ago so not very up to date. There are 4 tests that are extremely hard but he prides himself in that and applies a curve to make up for it. The textbook is so dry but he knows that.
Exam questions are tricky. When answering T/F questions, READ CAREFULLY. Exam averages are around 75%. If you're within the 10% highest grades, you get an A. With the curve, it is nearly impossible to fail. Basically, it's a class that's hard to get an A, but also hard to fail. Majority get B. His lectures are helpful in understanding the book.
The Law Dog. You can tell he is one of those professors who really enjoys being around students and getting a laugh out of his class. He teaches every semester of BLAW the exact same and even tells the same stories. Really your only option to suck it up and try to be open-minded and you may actually enjoy the class.
Well if you are in the business program you have to take this class, but man is it bad. His lecture style is about 40% stuff you need to know and 60% stories about cases that won't help you actually learn the material. He's clearly a lawyer that only teaches because he grew to old to be a lawyer. Sorry for everyone that has to take this class.
favorite professor at gonzaga. He is so entertaining and makes class easy to understand and wants students to succeed.
Very intense professor. Often makes comments not very PC if youre worried about that. Exam averages were 60-70% but severely curved. 4 tests, not graded on any homework. Heavy reading, you need to read the textbook to do well
You will not get a good grade in the class if you do not study for the four exams in the semester. Take good notes, read the textbook, and watch the videos where he tells you everything that will be on the test and you should be fine. He curves heavily but the tests are still very hard. Its all true/false, multiple choice, and short answer. STUDY!!
Prof Hackney is not a great professor but you learn a lot. Make sure you read the textbook a lot and make sure to take good lecture notes. The grade you get in his class is compromised of just 4 exams, and the only good thing about his grading system is that he curves so as long as you consistently score in the mid 70's you'll do fine.
Study hard for all four tests. Grades everything on a curve.
Lawdog gives you everything you need to do well but it's up to you how much you're willing to dedicate yourself to get the grade you want. Pretty heavy curve and a chill guy.
Hackney gives great lectures and tells stories to keep some of the dry material interesting. He can be really funny and is an example of who American's that work in academia should strive to be
Not much to be said that isn't already. You have to take this course from him, but he's got the course down to a science. Keeps lectures as engaging as possible with colorful examples, but is self-aware about the dry course content. 4 exams make up your entire grade, but curve is so generous it's hard to fail. Pay attention and you'll be fine!
He is the GOAT, be ready to study for tests but he is super fun.
I'm usually skeptical of classes graded 100% on exams, but Law Dog was super funny, cares about student success and is an overall great guy. The exams are tough but heavily curved, so with minimal effort, you can pass the class. Lectures can be a little long and extra credit is rare, but he's been teaching the same for years so consult your peers.
Professor Hackney is a great motivator and keeps his lectures entertaining with his humor. Some of the material can be very dry, but he uses funny stories to keep the class engaged. The exams are hard, but the curve is very generous and there's no homework so that gives you more than enough time to prepare. I scored a 70% overall and received a B.
LAWDAWG is the best. He's a great teacher, the problem is that the subject is incredibly boring if you don't care about law. He does his best to have an interesting class, I just can't pay attention. But I am a huge fan of lawdog. The tests are difficult but the curve makes it so it's easy to pass.
Everyone has said it before, he is hilarious, but that doesn't change the difficulty of the course. He really does try to make the material less dry than it is & for the most part, I'd say he succeeds. The course is practically impossible to fail due to the way he curves. Study a bit and you'll be fine. Laugh at his jokes, & it'll be less boring!
You have no option but to take the Law Dog, but not to stress this guy is funny caring and you can just tell he cares about his students. On another note this class is tough. Your grade is completely made up of the four test, but he curves the test heavily. The Law Dog teaches one of those classes that is just a grind, nothing else. Best of Luck.
The LawDawg is your only option, but don't fret. This guy may be one of the wisest profs you'll come across. Class is lecture heavy, you're graded on four exams(curved heavily), and he sums up what you need to know for each one. This guy can crack some wild jokes and he'll do his best to keep you engaged. Take notes, read the text, you'll be fine.
Only one available so can't do much about it. His lectures are boring and can make you fall asleep. Yes, the material in this class is hard to understand at first so take notes on PowerPoints, videos and read the book. You are only graded on the 4 exams in class but heavily curved. Overall, not the best prof and hard class but doable.
Super nice man and a good professor. Takes a LOT of work/studying to get an A in this class but it's achievable. Hard to fail class b/c of the heavy curve, but also tough to do conventionally well. Tons of memorization but there are great resources online and a lot to take away from this class. Just show up, take good notes, and STUDY STUDY STUDY.
Hilarious guy and has the entire class laughing, definitely knows what he's talking about and has experience as a lawyer, but the course is difficult for someone who doesn't have a law brain.
Only homework is reading and reviewing videos. Lectures and videos are almost identical. Attendance is taken every class, and being attentive to lecture is important. Grade is based only on four tests. No cumulative final. Can get good grade if you put in the work, even without reading the textbook.
Law Dog is overall an amazing guy! He wants you to understand his content and will do so by providing hilarious examples. His course has 4 exams and no homework. Take detailed notes and review his study guides. Don't worry too much about your exam score, a curve will save you. Just pay attention and don't go on your phone!
The BEST prof at GU. He has fun, engaging lectures and the stories he tells to teach the material are top notch. He gives plenty of resources for the materials covered in class. The exam review videos are SOOO nice and helpful. Make and study flashcards and you will do well. The curve is also very forgiving.
Professor Hackney is a really good professor and I can't imagine anybody but him being able to teach this class. He knows how to lecture and as long as you pay attention and take good notes you should be fine. Tests are graded on a very generous curve. You have to take this guy if you a business major but he is great.
Arguably, he is one of the worst professors in Gonzaga Business and if you are reading this you have the misfortune of taking him because God forbid Gonzaga does something right and hires additional Bus Law professors. He only lectures off the same slides he made back in 150 B.C. for the entire class and then lies about what will be on the exam.
Only graded on 4 exams so take good notes in class and STUDY. His lectures can get a bit boring but he tries to keep you engaged with funny stories and examples. Tests are challenging, but there is an extra credit opportunity. Overall love Hackney but be ready to study.
The Law Dog is AMAZING! One of my favorite classes at GU. The course is graded entirely off of 4 tests, but he applies a curve based on the performance of his classes. The content is very dense, but is extremely useful for the future.
Professor Hackney is a great professor. He lectures the whole class, but keeps you engaged by fun stories. The only grades in the class are the 4 tests- which are really hard so make sure you study for them. The law terminology is kind of hard if you're unfamiliar with it. There's always big curves so don't worry if you don't do great on the exams
Classic professor. Gets a bad reputation for difficult tests, but if you put the work in it is not super hard. I really enjoyed his class. He's super funny, cares about his students, and curves the tests pretty heavily. It is not hard to do well and I would totally take him again. Don't let bad reviews scare you! (graded only on 4 tests)
Bus Law with the Law Dog is a difficult class, but he made it super interesting to come to class every day. Grade is composed of 4 exams that were pretty difficult, so you definitely have to put in work. But otherwise it was a great class and he is very funny.
The Law DAWG! You have to take his class if you're in business. Only 4 tests that have numerous specific & trick questions. The curve is designed so over half the class gets a B, less than 10% an A, & 5% an A-. Studying is a challenge and takes a crazy amount of memorizing. His lectures are quite funny, & so is his personality. DELMAR and BRUNHILDA
Hackney is one of my favorite professors I've taken at Gonzaga. The class is a lot of lecturing, but he makes it pretty entertaining to sit and listen. Class is graded entirely on four tests, but as long as you read the book and study for them you'll be fine.
