Awesome teacher. I came into the class dreading it (took the online course) but found him to be a level-headed, friendly, encouraging teacher who wasn't biased and who encouraged lateral thinking (as long as it was well-supported). Would definitely take one of his classes again.
Great teacher. I learned a lot.
Very nice teacher and willing to work with students. It is an online class and I missed the date for my midterm, and he let me make it up which saved me a ton of trouble and grief.
I am currently taking his class online and I enjoy it very much. He is very helpful and makes sure to let everyone know that he is there to help. His online lectures are very clear and to the point, but does require heavy reading from the textbook.
If you are majoring in Political Science, he gives you a huge foundation. If not and you are taking the class to fulfill a pre-req, then maybe another professor would be easier. VERY FAIR, good communication and timely. Make sure you don't leave the term paper until the last minute,it is 1800-2400 words, but easy to do.
Great professed very clear lectures.. make you interested in the subject. Lot of reading, to discussion post every week, two test and one 6-8 pages term paper.. will take him again thank you
Mr. Mirjanian is a fantastic professor. He presents the material in a way that makes you understand the importance of political science. Don is one of the most helpful professors that I've ever had and I wish he taught more classes. Do not approach the class only for an A, rather, try to grasp the importance of your role in the American government.
This was my first online class... He is very helpful in answering any questions you may have, but be careful not to fall behind on readings and lectures... It will hurt your grade severely! Start working on your Term Paper as soon as possible... If you wait till the last minute you will struggle and do poorly! Do not mistake his kindness for weakne
This online class is a lot of work for a 100 level course but I definitely learned a lot. Great teacher, explains everything very clearly, and is very accessible and willing to answer questions. I didn't use the text book very much, but listen to the online lectures every week - they help a great deal, especially with your weekly postings.
a lot of reading but well worth it when it comes to lecture time. great dicussions.
Mr. Mirjanian was a great teacher. Before taking his class i had no interest in political science and just took it for requirment. I am glad i took it with him. he is very easy to understand and was always helpful!
He is a very good professor. The class is fairly easy if you do the readings and attend. He goes over the material very well and helps you understand what you have read.
This class was boring! The whole two hours of his class was none stop notes. There's only 3 essays we must complete, but his exams are extremely hard. It doesn't seem similar to the stuff we learn in class. Half the class liked him and his learning skills, but the rest did not so it's your choice.
This professor is great. The subject matter is hard and you have to read if you want to get an A but if you read the chapters, write the essays, and show up everyday for notes, you will get an A. Definitely learned more in this class than any other.
Don makes the class pretty interesting; He is very knowledgeable and is more than willing to help you if you don't understand the information. He's a great teacher but it's a lot of work! I wouldn't recommend taking his class over the summer - I would really only recommend taking his classes if you're a polisci major...
this class isn't hard if you show up for class and pay attention. He makes a boring subject interesting.
I think Don is an awesome teacher and makes the class as interesting as possible. His tests are based mainly on his slides so show up to every class and pay attention. Pretty generous on grades for papers. Take his class
I took this class online. I thought Professor Mirjanian does a good job of making a semi-boring subject pretty interesting. He has lectures posted online, which a lot of the material from the lectures is on the mid-term and final. Would recommend!
Wow, knows everything about political science. Can answer any and every question. Very clear. Tests can be a challenge if you don't read but if you show up and do the work, you can manage an A.
Great teacher I took him online and he's class felt like an in campus course. He gives PowerPoints, notes, and online lectures just for your own sake. Never expected for the class to be as easy as he made it. As long as you hear the lectures, do the HW, and briefly go over the notes you will pass the class with a high grade.
Don is an amazing professor! He is very helpful. Tests are bit hard, but manageable. He wants to make sure you know what you're learning. He is very helpful when you have questions. Doesn't intimadte you or make you feel stupid at any question you ask. I would refer him to ANYONE! Best professor EVER!!
Professor Don is awesome! He is so helpful and he makes a very boring subject interesting. His tests are not too bad if u show up to class and study before the test. I highly recommend taking this professor!
I took his class online, and it wasn't difficult just very boring. I am a visual learner, so I absolutely hated the audio lectures. Three tests (90 questions), discussion posts, and a term paper. Not a terribly hard class, but with three other summer courses I had a lot to juggle.
TAKE THIS TEACHER. He is fun, easy to understand, loves to hear your opinion and is by far the best professor I have taken in any subject. Don is freakin awesome.
Great professor. Does not try to influence you in any way politically . Just teaches the subject right down the middle. Really made it fun to learn about our form of government. Highly recommend!
First I would like to point out that Mirjanian is a stone cold fox. On a less shallow note, he is also absolutely brilliant. He knows his subject like the back of his hand and is great communicating the concepts and cares enough to take the time and make sure everything gets across clear. Do what little he asks and you'll be a-okay.
The online class is straight-forward but not easy. You have to work hard to earn an A. 2 discussion posts a week (be thorough and use lecture/book references) 3 exams and a term paper. You need to read the book & take notes during his audio/power point lectures. I earned an A and worked hard for it! Good Luck!
Took him online and it was great. Read assigned chapters and listen to audio/powerpoint lectures. Two posts a week on what you have learned and three tests (non-cumulative) and a 6-8 page paper. Got an A, and loved his class. Very Helpful. He responds promptly and will give study tips for the tests. TAKE HIM!
He is awesome!! One of the best teachers I have ever taken. Definitely take him!
Prof. Mirjanian is the BEST prof ever! At the beginning of the semester I thought I was going to withdraw because of almost zero interest and knowledge in pol sci. However, he has made this subject and my life easier now...he is great! Highly recommend his class! If you attend his lectures you will do good on his exams.
His online class is straight forward. Read the chapter, listen to the lecture, take good notes (use google docs, answer the discussion questions. There are 2 each week. Do thorough research for your 6-8 page paper. That's all. He communicates really well and he knows how to explain Pol Sci Concepts really well.
I HIGHLY recommend taking Professor Don. He's very passionate about his subject and will help you in any way possible he can.
Excellent professor! He's very knowledgeable in his subject and easy to talk to. Even if you are not into politics, he breaks it down so anyone can understand. Doesn't always agree with the text, but he explains why. 3 exams, 3 essays with interesting subjects. Must study hard though, your grade won't be handed to you.(Obviously)
I took this class online and I can't believe the strict schedule we had to adhere to! Two assignments were due each week (Wednesday and Sunday), there were three exams(two hours long, open within a 10hr period on a Monday), and the final paper had to have text citations and could not be all online sources. Technical difficulties proved difficult.
Awesome class! It was always interesting and he made class fun and enjoyable! He's very knowledgable and knows the answers to all of your questions; always willing to give extra help if you need it. You do need to study quite a bit if you want an A; showing up to class is a must!
Don's class was actually really interesting. I looked forward to going to his class, even though this class was just a prerequisite for my unrelated major. If you attend class and study (this is a college course, people. You do have to work for your grades) then you will do just fine. He wants his students to pass and is VERY helpful.
Was a good class, always interesting, especially during the election. Learned a lot. It wasn't nearly as hard as many made it to be and a B - A , shouldn't be difficult with some effort. Tests come mostly from power point, take notes. There is stuff from the book that won't be in your notes on the tests.
Prior to taking this class, I had read a lot about human rights, so I had some interest in this class. However, during the first month of class, it takes some adjustment to the material and information in the text. Professor Mirjanian is very clear on what he expects from students & you definitely learn a lot. Always read the text & take notes.
He is an extraordinary professor that loves politics. You can feel it when he does his lectures. He posts notes before hand so you can use his & write notes next to the slides. He is a UNLV professor as well & can give you great insight. Being in his class has fully convinced me to be a political science major, it doesn't hurt that he's attractive!
Excellent teacher,I am so lucky to have had him. I highly recommend him. His lectures are witty and intelligent. He is always available to help if you have any questions. He post a lecture every week that talks about the chapter in the book. Test are fair, just take notes and watch the lectures. I would take him again if I could.
This professor is great. He expects a lot from a 100 level class but other than that it is a good class, esp if you are trying to avoid 2 hist classes. He is very kind and funny. Down to Earth and knows his field well. He is very helpful and actually enjoys helping his students. WOULD TAKE HIM AGAIN WITHOUT A DOUBT. Be in class and do the work.
VERY helpful. VERY NICE. He is an awesome professor. Poli Sci sometimes can be a little boring..he makes it fun. He was so kind to me and actually helped me with a paper over the phone on a WEEKEND once.. if you are looking for a great poli sci teacher, this professor is the one.
Very helpful. He is very nice and he is encouraging. He likes when students ask questions. Take him for poli sci 101.
This Prof. knows the subject very well but his lectures are BORING! He fails to show any energy, personality, or passion in his online lectures which mostly consist of him explaining power point notes. Class is challenging but you will learn if you put in the time and can deal with his boring lectures. He encourages students to ask questions.
Definitey the coolest Poli Sci pof at csn. Yeah, theory is the most boring class ever, but he has a sense of humor that makes it worth trying. 2 online exams that you can pass with your book in hand, but STUDY FOR THE FINAL. It is in class and closed book.
Prof. Mirjanian is one of the best teachers I ever had. I took this class online. I had to do to DB a week one due midnight on wednesday and the other sunday. I had to tests and one final, and also one term paper. The only reason I did not get an A was because of myself, I was sick alot this semester so I did not do all the work. Very easy class
Easy if you do the reading and follow along. Take the online class he is helpful and responds quickly.
Very easy class, if you focus on it you should have no problem getting an A.
Prof. Mirjanian is very helpful and replies fairly quickly. This was the first time I took an online class and I started getting lazy the last half of the term so I ended up getting a B. As long as you listen to the lectures, take notes, read the book, do the postings you will do great.
This professor is very helpful, clear, and knowledgeable about his subject. He answers the emails quickly. However, his Exams were bit tough and difficult. I felt like his lectures are beyond the expected level of a PSC101 course. Anyway, he helps a lot on the Term Paper, which is 8-10 pages.
Prof Mirjanian is knowledgable in his field, however is very rude and condescending if you ask for feedback on an assignment. He is also known to make inappropriate comments towards students, implying that they are "idiots", and is very full of himself. Definitely one of those professors with a "God Complex".
The subject matter was terribly boring to me, but this professor made it easy, and interesting, to learn. Love his lectures, and the discussion postings go beyond just typing nonsense. Weekly postings, two midterms, one research paper, and a final. Study, pay attention, participate, and you've got this.
GREAT TEACHER, I TOOK A SHORT ONLINE COURSE. WEEKLY DISCUSSION POSTS THAT TAKE TIME, LECTURES POSTED ARE INTERESTING 1 PAPER, 4 TESTS, TEACHER VERY HELPFUL, GRADING EASY JUST PAY ATTENTION TO THE LECTURES, WILL TAKE HIM AGAIN
This was an 8 week class. It was pretty interesting. The professor was extremely helpful and quick to respond to emails. The discussion paper was lengthy and I think that for how lengthy it was, a greater percentage should have gone towards the research paper, instead it was about 20% of the grade. I enjoyed the class though and I would recommend!
Take this class if you want to be a professor after you finished. 4 questions every chapter and it required so much work, or he will take points off if you don't write long a deep enough. Test is hardest ever, and he make sure you won't have time to look at your note. This will be first C in my 19 classes.
Great Professor, not too challenging if you are good with humanities but he doesn't go too easy on you.
He is an amazing professor! I enjoyed his class because he is very good at getting his students interested in what he is saying. All you need to get an A is to show up to class and if you have questions, ASK! He is willing to spend as much time as needed to clarify anything because he wants his student to do well. I loved his class!
Highly recommend this professor! There is a video lecture every week with only 4 questions you have to thoroughly answer a week and 3 total tests throughout which are very time consuming but nothing horrible. Also a research paper you have the whole semester to work on. He grades easy and is always welcoming to any questions you have. EASY A
Amazing professor, extremely knowledgeable and passionate. Must show up for class lecture to pass class. Study lecture notes and power point print outs and you'll soar.
NOT an easy course. Made an intro class feel like an honors class. Posts an hour long video lecture per week, defeating the purpose of an online class & is difficult to understand, concept-wise. 4 short answer questions per week that are HARD. Not the easiest grader but not the worst. 3 tests, 1 term paper. Quick to grade & respond to emails.
Tons of work! I was petrified of this class but once I approached him, he helped me tremendously! Attendance is crucial but I loved going to class. He encourages to participate. Teaches us how to think NOT what to think which is exceptionaly hard in a political class. He is very passionate and knowledgeable and easy on the eyes lol.
I would recommend this professor!
Great class and great professor. There is quite a large workload and study load (more than other classes) but he makes class very interesting and enjoyable. He's extremely knowledgeable about politics and very willing to help students do well in his class. Highly recommend!
On point with assignments, and always responsive to any questions. Gives great feedback. This class, and prof. Mirjanian inspired me to switch my major to polisci. 4 assign. each week - required to be a paragraph long (min), and a final essay. Would have received an A, but was unable to do two assignments due to unforeseen circumstances.
Top notch professor and a cool guy to boot. He has a great attitude, and made the lectures extremely interesting and enjoyable. Very intensive class, a couple lectures per week, a couple of chapters to read per week, and online discussions and reviews, took 6 - 8 hours per week. Perfect summer course. Worth every minute.
I loved him. I hated politics before his class, but he made me understand it better. He claims that his class is hard, but it really isn't, so DON'T BE INTIMIDATED. Show up for lectures. Print out all the PP slides before class, pay attention, and take good notes. Try really hard on his essays. Barely even touched my book, still ended up with an A.
Great teacher, very patient! Online layout is easy to find for assignments, and gets back to students questions promptly. Make sure you study efficiently for the exams, they are tough and you cannot take them again. You will receive 4 credits for this class because it also focuses on Nevada's government. I highly recommend this class!
Took online; four questions each week to submit answers to. Make sure to watch every lecture and read the textbook (both are a bit lengthy), as it will help for the weekly questions and to study for exams. He grades fairly quickly, doesn't take too long to respond to emails, and encourages class to ask questions if help is needed.
I took his three and a half hour class, but it felt like an eternity. His class has two papers and three exams. He is a fair teacher, and will possibly curve the exam scores if the class exam average is low. Overall a good teacher.
LOVE !!!!!!!
lots of knowledge, explains really good.
This class was wonderful. He gives you all the notes and talks about it all slide by slide. Because you have the notes attendance is not mandatory, but if you want all the specifics come to class. You need to hear the lecture to do well on the tests. 3 tests and 2 papers. All was pretty easy. Did not open the textbook once. Not worth buying.
Unbelievably knowledgable. It's his passion. But you have to really listen on lectures because that's where you get 75% of the info for the exams and essays. It would help you a lot if you print out the PowerPoint notes from Canvas. Class is a bit long. We had 3 exams and 2 essays. Don't procrastinate if you want to get a good grade.
run!! find another teacher!!
I took this class because it was required and left with a new-found interest in Political Science. Dr. Mirjanian is knowledgeable and passionate about his field and it made the lectures interesting. I expected a dry class that focused on typical political matters and the professor made it much more than that.
I took Mirjanian's Political Science 101 (8 week course). I had little to no PS background or interest, and I left the class with a real interest in political science. He is a very passionate and knowledgeable professor. His lectures were long, but interesting. Expectations are clear, and grading is clear. I would take this class again!
Professor Don is a very hard grader . I was not able to pass the class because the exams are 100 questions and it is timed..... Many students say that this teacher is good but in my opinion I think he is a very hard grader Look for another teacher!!!
Clearly states what he expects from each student in syllabus. Grade is dependent on exams and a couple easy essays. He wants to make sure you understand the material. Very passionate and caring about his job.
I took this course as an online class. Overall I think I deserved the grade I received. There are 3 exams and 1 final paper. The final paper is around 10 pages long. I definitely recommend him. The week to week hw consists of watching the lecture and then answering 2 discussion questions and 2 review questions.
Professor is very passionate about the subject he is teaching, and the lectures are interesting. Also he always ask if have additional questions and it is helpful. We had 3 tests and 2 essays, they were easy for me. I had hybrid class so some lectures are recorded to see home (awesome). I don't think he is tough grader but I always study hard.
He's not a difficult grader. Nor is he unfair. If you're expecting to coast through the entirety of college with minimal effort, don't waste his time. He NEVER phoned in a lecture and was animated when he spoke. Expect to at least put in AVERAGE effort in this course. He meets you half-way and then some. He's what a college professor should be.
Amazing professor!! Favorite class of the semester. Easy to pass as long as you take good notes during his lectures and study Key Concept questions. He posts his PowerPoints online but you have to fill in the blanks from what he says in class b/c his powerpoint notes do not cover much! Only 2 essays but he is not a harsh grader. Strongly recommend!
Took class online. Not a fan of PSC, so did what was needed. Must read book and watch lectures to pass tests and do discussions every week. Be prepared for the 3 tests. They opened up Monday at 10am and closed on Tuesday at 10am
This was my favorite class of the semester. If you're looking for an easy A don't take this class, but if you're willing to put in some work you'll do good. Theres three exams throughout the semester, but if you take notes on lectures and do all your assignments you're fine. Theres one paper but you have a few months to do. Would highly recommend!
Took his 8-week 4-credit PSC course. Pretty tough and if I had skipped just one of the classes I would have been screwed. Definitely need to go to class but he's a good speaker and likes to answer questions. If you need help he'll really love to help if you go to him.
Great lectures, fair and concise. I really enjoyed his class. Very knowledgeable and passionate.
This class was about as exciting as folding laundry. The lectures are very long ( voice recordings for online purposes) The power-points sometimes leave questions unanswered. He is responsive if you don't understand something. The tests are very difficult but also open book. I took this course over 8 weeks during summer.
This class was like torture. The lectures are dense so it takes 3 hours to essentially transcribe an hour of lecture. You have to listen to everything and write it down in order to do well on the tests. The weekly work was very tedious, the book can't be bought used or sold back to the bookstore. I enjoy learning about politics but this class. ugh.
I took Professor Mirjanian's PSC 101 class online in an 8 week course. This class was a lot of work and I spent many hours on the computer listening to his lectures to complete his assignments but he is a fair grader and you will come out of this class more knowledgeable than when you came in.
I took this class over an 8 week period, I didn't enjoy it at all. He posts lectures online, but with all the note taking that needs to be done, turns the lectures from 1 hour to 3 hours, so be prepared for that. Also be prepared to read a lot. There are reviews and discussions, but the two midterms along with a final are worth most of your grade.
If you're a poli sci major, take this class. At first, professor Mirjanian may make you feel like you want to run from his class. If you're lazy and don't care about this subject or getting good grades, run. If not, stick it through. Great content, lectures & discussions. You will do well if you take notes, read & support your answers on exams.
What is justice!? If you take PSC 200 you'll find out. Must take if you're a PSC major. Lectures are awesome causing the slight possibility that you might learn something. Overall great, holds students accountable.
so this professor is so unorganized. There is no way of getting ahead and he will open modules days late and not make up the time for it. I don't understand how he has such great ratings. I had to personally email him because he forgot to open the module for 2 days!! I just had to get out of his class. I liked Bradley better even then hes also bad.
so perfect. I wish I could just take him home with me and have him teach me politics all the time. Extraordinarily knowledgeable, articulate, and so very easy on the eyes. If you want to understand political philosophy, he's your man. Show up - and why not - he's super hot! -and make sure you study! he'll sweep you off your feet without even trying
He makes you work ridiculously hard for an A. He gives no extra credit. You read a chapter from the book, do discussion, do assignment, and take a test every so often. His tests are terrible because the questions are too specific. You spend more time trying to figure what he is asking and what exactly he wants than you do on the actual assignment.
Personally, I am not a political science person but I enjoyed coming to his classes even if they were 3 hours long. Super funny & definitely knows his stuff and provides amazing slides with corresponding lecture notes and study questions. Very approachable and willing to help on the essays or understand anything outside of class.
Very knowledgeable professor, loves his subject. He tries to be funny and unbiased on political positions, although lectures fast-I had only half of the notes. Three exams, two papers (grades generously). The course book was thrilling but time-consuming, so I studied from his lecture notes. Definitely would show you a bigger prospective. Easy.. B?
As someone who has always loved anything involving international relations, I took Intro. to Comparative Politics to determine if I want to major in International Studies once I complete my associate's degree. With that being said, this class requires a lot of reading & the ability to think outside the box; 10/10, would recommend this class.
Professor uses a lot of discussion posts and his tests are extremely lengthy. Otherwise is pretty straight forward with what he expects. If you want a class you can coast through, I'd look elsewhere, but if you are going to actually put in the work required, you should have no trouble with this class.
This class changed my life and my outlook on government and society. I had no idea I could understand so much about philosophy - its like he brought Plato and Aristotle right into to the classroom with us. He's hot and brilliant and an amazing teacher. Take him, take him now.
He knows his stuff, he's unbiased, but his grading criteria is tough. 75% of your grade is based on exams and not doing well on one test could easily hurt your grade. The 2 hours given for the exams really isn't enough, even if you have accommodations for extra time from the resource center.
You will definitely need to read the textbook, watch the lectures, and participate weekly to get a good grade. His lectures are very enlightening, and I loved them. He sometimes also assigns other things to read or watch, but they all pertain to what you're learning. He isn't a tough grader but as long as you do the work you should get a good grade
Hes a good Prof, although he is very specific when he comes to asking questions. Hes does NOT accept late work and is lecture heavy. Get ready to sit in front of the computer for 1 - 2 hours. Class is quite boring and not creative.
I recommend watching the lectures and following along by answering the 10 questions that he gives for each week; some of these questions are the same as the free responses on the exam. I was able to get an A on 2/3 of the exams just by watching the lectures and taking notes but the book does help too, just skim the info. weekly discussions also
I've been an "A"/high "B" student my entire academic career & have experienced dozens of educators. I wrote 2 pro-American papers in his course- one received a mediocre grade & I was accused of recycling my second from another class. He refused to provide any evidence supporting his claim and my attempt at dialogue with him was pointless. Shameful.
6-week summer course, last class before nursing program. 1st impression: "Wow, this is intense for a 101 class." Enjoyed his lectures tho. Got 10/10 on every assignment--just answer all parts of prompt. Three exams: 50 mult. ch. Qs + 5 essays, which are 75% of grade. Open note, open book at home. Rarely needed book but some Qs from it, so get it.
Professor Don Mirjanian is the best professor I have ever taken. He is really passionate about what he teaches and is a good teacher. Textbook isnt completely necessary, but should get it because it helps, and sometimes he asks question about the reading. ( in discussion form). The grades for his class are made up of 2 papers, 2 midterms and final
There are weekly assignments and 3 exams. The exam has 50 multiple choice questions and 5 essays. The essays are made of the same questions from each lecture video, so you can finish the essays if you answer them ahead of time. I got the textbook, but I didn't use it since the lectures answered everything. You need to put effort, but good class!
I absolutely loved this class! There was a lot to read and the content was challenging but this professor was amazing! He is extremely passionate about the subject and works hard to engage the whole class in discussion especially with harder to grasp concepts. The floor is always open for questions and he does his best to make sure you understand!!
Even though I took mine online, you have to study heavy for the test. Use key concepts as a study guide to each unit. There are 3 units and 3 test which make up most of your grade. If you think you can cheat, you can't. Test are based off his lectures not stuff you can look up. If PSC is a hard subject for you, I recommend looking elsewhere.
Dr. M was a great professor, I dont perform well on test and his class is TEST graded, your participation weekly is 25% of the overall grade but the exams are 75%. His exams are 50 questions 40 are multiple choice worth 1 pt and 10 are short answers worth 10pts. Do those first and dont pay attention to the "short" part, give detail.
Took him for online. He is very organized on what assignments are due. They are all posted on canvas on the first day. Only focuses on one textbook (Bower's) and lectures are videos. Listen to the lectures , read the sections, answer the weekly discussions as best as possible and you will be fine. Grades easy too. Only one exam (final).
I don't like poli sci, so I was stressed at the beginning w/all the work, but then as the weeks went by it seemed better. As long as you give a good brief explanation/opinion on the HW then you'll get full credit. The only thing that brought my grade down was the final exam 1hr/50ques, make sure you understand what you read in the book for that
I swear, this class is easier than it seems. What he expects of you is clear and concise (the questions he gives you for each piece? Study the answers and you'll ace his exams), and his lecture style is also very clean. Engaging questions about the literature. Overall, really enjoyed the class.
Professor Mirjanian isnt a bad professor. Its just his online class is very lecture heavy! One hour lectures you have to watch and take notes on because his exams are ONLY based on his lectures. Small details matter but other than that the class was okay.
This class was a lot of reading/lecture comprehension, but if you do ALL of his assignments (even the ungraded lecture notes he provides) & stick to the schedule, there is NO reason you won't get an A in his class. He takes essay questions for the test straight from those lecture notes, & I enjoyed his lecture recordings (all 1 hour long).
Professor Mirjanian is a great professor! The lectures were absolutely necessary for success, but they were pretty interesting, especially for a 101 level course. I learned a lot, but it probably took more time than any of my other classes this semester. If I were taking more classes in this discipline, I'd definitely try to take them from him.
Professor does not show slightest bit of empathy whatsoever! Very unorganized and overall a bad experience with the class.
Horrible teacher, very unorganized and during lectures goes on a million tangents. Lectures are at least a hour long of just unnecessary info. I would highly NOT recommend taking this class if I could give it a grade it would be a F-.
I do not think I have spoken with my professor this semester, but there was no need. He was clear in what he expects of his students. Read, Listen to the lectures, focus on the key concepts, study, and you will pass the class. His lectures are interesting, and he speaks in a way that you will understand.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE professor. DO NOT take this class. Very condescending, and not to mention always whining about his divorce and family life before every class. Class was more of a therapy session for him.
This teacher is one of the worst teachers I ever had in my life. At first he was okay, but now he's rude, mean, unorganized, and awful!! I wouldn't recommend this teacher to no one not even my enemies. Do not take his class you will regret it.
He is very helpful with all of the work, and responds well if you ask him for help. I even did an entire assignment wrong because I misunderstood it, and when he graded it, he gave me a 100% because I did a good job, but corrected the parts that were wrong where I misunderstood it.
I have very little interest in political science and had little understanding of it prior to the class, but Dr. Mirjanian made it very easy. Some lectures can be lengthy, but they are very informative and easy to understand. The four exams make up 80% of the grade, but as long as you watch the lectures and take notes, you're good.
Not a huge fan of politics but this class was a breeze, just make sure you listen to the lectures. Four quizzes and a brief assignment each week and that's it. responds quickly to your questions and the class is really well organized and laid out. take him!
This professor is an extremely harsh grader. He will penalize you 20% for not capitalizing a word. There are too many lectures, papers, and the inquisitive website is prone to bugs (you will not be excused even with bugs). I know the other reviews are positive but trust me- do not take this class.
The lectures are long, quite confusing, and don't always fully answer the assignment questions. The assignments are counted as participation, meaning that the time you spent on them doesn't impact your grade much. Inquisitive is participation as well. The long, confusing midterms outweigh your entire grade. Just don't take this class.
The difficulty from the class stems from the midterms 1-4. They are 60 questions long and require 4 short essays and must be completed within 95 minutes. A large percentage of the questions are lecture related and not found in the book. Ultimately all four midterms feel extremally rushed and it feels as though you don't have much time to think.
Professor Donald Mirjanian is a very difficult teacher to cooperate with. Although his assignments are "participation" he still grades on accuracy. He also provides terrible feedback for the participation assignments. His feedback always includes something about, you should've read the textbook or you should've referred back to the lecture.
This professor is very cold, it doesn't seem like he cares about his students nor does it seem like he cares about their chances of passing. Don't bother taking up political science with him.
really straightforward and organized class, online class really well organized. Cares about student success!
Doesnt want students to succeed, turned off closed captions for the recent lectures and said he can't turn it back on. English is not my 1st language and PSC is already hard enough (heavy materials) sometimes I don't know what he was saying so the CC helped A LOT! Besides that, CC helped me take notes while at work without turning the volume on. :(
Professor Mirjanian is a bit difficult to like, however his grading clearly established, and there is no "surprises". The written responses to homework get full credit for just repeating what's said in the lectures, even though it's supposed to be your "own words" (the only time I tried this I got a 60% on the response question). Ok, but tough.
Dr Don is the man! He cares about his students if they also care, dont show up you wont pass. Perfect example of you get out what you put in. Don't take if you're a slacker. Do the readings, show up, ask questions. He gives a road map for success, you just need to follow it. If you dont understand, go see him. Challenging and rewarding class. 10/10
His exams and quizzes come directly from lecture so listen well. DO NOT RECORD LECTURE! Lots of real world examples applied to lecture for better understanding. Easy to pass this course with a high grade.
I have absolutely no complaints! Usually one video lecture a week with a couple of assigned readings and short quiz at the end of the week on Fridays. 4 exams + the final but the questions come directly from the quizzes which come directly from the lectures and sometimes the readings so just pay attention, and you'll do swell!
"Struggling in summer online class; instructor unclear & contradictory on syllabus, assignments, and accommodations. No empathy for DRC students; no extra time for exams/quizzes. Appears money-driven, dismissive of student hardships. Wouldn't recommend."
I was excited abt taking this class mainly for the Political Science dialog and the class participation abt current affairs. First lecture I posed a question abt "Reparations" and he let loose and provided his personal opinion - which he later retracted. Once he realized what he did, he abruptly dismissed the class. Weird much. I had to drop course
pretty interesting class. learned a lot. MAKE SURE YOU WATCH AND TAKE NOTES ON THE LECTURES. to be honest, he tests you more on what he says during his lectures, than the reading. read the book, and listen to his lectures, and you'll do fine. quizzes weekly.
While Professor Mirjanian's teaching style may not suit everyone, if you engage with the material, this course can be manageable. Attending lectures, taking notes, and utilizing resources like the textbook and Unstuck ai for study prep can help you succeed. The exams are straightforward if you stay on top of the content.
you'll have to put some work into this class but you'll learn everything you want to know about government and politics, and really interesting topics and lectures. Fair grader with some extra credit opportunities, I'd take this professor anytime.
Awesome! You'll learn so much..I've taken him for on-ground and online classes and on-ground are much better as he's so engaging. But definitely take him, it's a straightforward class that you get a lot out of l! He's not biased at all and will always get the point across well.
Has strict makeup/late work policies (at least for the summer course). Quizzes and tests are timed but the questions are simple enough to breeze through. The textbook is free and exams lean heavily on the lecture. Explains the material and his expectations clearly. Plus his dry humor helps the long lectures go over smoother.
it's a lot of old fashioned lecture but the expectations are clear and the workload is pretty easy. It's a required course for the degree and he's a good one to take it with! Feel like I earned a c but walked out with a B+
clearly cares about students, went out of his way to help when I was struggling, so appreciate his efforts to help
My teacher is honestly one of the most boring people I've ever had in class. He speaks in a monotone voice, rarely shows any enthusiasm, and it feels like he doesn't care whether we understand the lesson or not. He barely interacts with the students and just reads off slides or from the textbook. It's hard to stay focused,
Quite honestly an easy, straight forward class. Read the textbook (which he provides online for free), listen to the lecture (and take notes!!!), and do your quizzes and tests. There's a quiz for every module and 4 tests. That's it. Listen to the lectures though. Don't skip those!!
