Horrible professor! Assignments are extremely unclear. He set up a discussion board for questions but doesn't clarify. He just states reasons for giving the assignments. Extremely poor organization of the course. Assignments and material are not conducive with an online class.
This was an online course. Assignments are unclear, online quizzes are confusing with poorly written question. The few times I have tried to contact the professor via email, I received incomplete answers or nothing answering my question. I am a religious studies minor, and even knowing what I am doing, I am barely holding a B in the course.
I was excited about the course, but the professor ruined it. Be prepared for aggravating reading assignments, unclear discussion board topics, and truly agitating online readings. You have weekly online quizzes that are a joke (not in a good way). Do NOT take this course with this professor.
He sucks as a teacher. I started off with a A+ and I questioned him about a question, he gave me points for it but ever since that my grades in discussion been tunneling maybe cause I spoke up for myself. I not exaggerating he is not very clear in his assignments I ended up with a A-.
Super easy class. Never bought the book and could still complete all the quizzes and tests. Didn't put any effort into the class and still pulled a B+. Material is pretty interesting, to boot! Take it to fill up your schedule!
Poorly organized class (online), vague test questions. The class was based on power points (not narrated), videos, and readings from the book and other sources. It was difficult to follow the syllabus (mostly because the BB site for the class was not well organized). The material was interesting BUT I would not recommend this teacher's online class
TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE TEACHER!Ignores his students, avoids responsibility for his mistakes, extremely disorganized course, ruined this class for me. Tests students on material not assigned, "just to see if your know it", unfair and biased grading policy, awarding some students points and not others. Very discriminative. STAY AWAY FROM SAUNDE
Horrible Experience. This class teachs compassion, the teacher doesn't know what the word means. Unfair, bully. Never available to meet for questions, help or concerns about the class and material. One actually gets the feeling that the professor is against their overall success in the course.
Gives alot of opportunity for extra credit, tests are not too hard, I took the class online. Fairly easy, gives study sheets, videos are interesting but pay attention. Print out all notes and prior tests to study for exams.
Interesting class but textbook and work load doesnt add up. Tests a bit hard asked random questions some repetative. Quizes fairly easy.
I am currently taking this course and unless things change drastically this is one of the worst professors I have ever had! He is very sparatic and I grades discussion boards very biased!!! I will post again when this semester ends!
The first two or three lectures were good, but after that he pretty much stopped lecturing and all we had were student presentations every week and the tests were all over the presentations. It started out with promise but slowly went downhill from there.
Leaves everything open for you to do on your own time. Which I find refreshing and convenient. Discussions were easy tests not too bad and quizzes every week that you can easily do in less than an hour. I chose to do the entire class two weeks before the deadline and still managed to get a good grade! I would recommend for non-procrastinators.
Very enlightening course. Well designed. One of the best courses I ever took in college. Changed my life. Self-paced on-line format was perfect for my busy full time schedule.
excellent interesting life changing
Just finished. Can do at your own pace which was perfect for me. Actually finished early. Good material. Very interesting and relevant.
My friend recommended this course to me. I am glad she did. Good college course. made me think and information is practical. The self-paced format with no mandatory class attendance was ideal. If you are thinking if you should or should not sign up for this course - DO IT!
On-line class was great! very interesting material. Everything due by the end but gives you a Strongly Recommended Schedule. Quizzes and Exams came directly from readings and power points. Good documentary and movie assignment choices as well. One of the most interesting courses of my undergrad experience!
I am an older student, nearing the end of my studies. This class is by far the best class I have ever taken. I think it should be mandatory for all humans, not just students. This one class has made a big and positive difference in my life.
This was by far the most interesting class I have ever taken at this school.
This was a very enlightening class. I have enjoyed it greatly and have given the highest marks in all categories on the survey. I hope to find more of his classes in the future.
I am so glad I decided to take this course even though I did not need it for a specific requirement. I've always had a fascination with the concept of life after death.I loved the course. I also loved the flexibility it offered. Having three small children and working full-time is very demanding, so this class was just perfect for me.
A wonderful experience this semester. I am extremely grateful for his intriguing teaching style and point of view as pertaining to religion and life after death. Even though I barely missed the cut-off for an A- in this course, I am impressed with how much I learned.
This course is hitting my soul and answering numerous questions I have had ever since I was a child. It is difficult for me to take all of this lightly; it's too personal for me. Looking forward to the rest of the semester of provided information/insight.
This course is hitting my soul and answering numerous questions I have had ever since I was a child. It is difficult for me to take all of this lightly; it's too personal for me.
Professor Saunders and the class are both amazing!! You will learn a lot in this class and have a wonderful time doing it. He is incredibly kind and prompt in responding to e-mails, too, so if you have any questions, just shoot him an e-mail!
I am very grateful for this class as it helped me to put some of my own spiritual experiences into new light.I am thankful for an amazing and inspiring course. I have told my very best friends about this class and I hope that he will continue to teach it so that they might walk away with a deeper understanding of life's complexities as I have.
The Professor rocks! He is very helpful and went over everything for me. I love this class - this class was amazing! He is a great teacher.
SUPER easy course. All the grades are quizzes and two exams, as long as you have the text book and read it all the way to the very end, there is no way not to pass the class with an A. Its self paced, everything just needs to be turned in the Friday before finals. Its a level 3 and an unbelievably easy A, TAKE THIS COURSE!
Interesting, convenient, and clear.
Great Course. Very interesting and informative. Also, took his other on-line course-Life after Death REL 3191. That course was pretty amazing. This one is good but a lot more reading and a more challenging. Both finish at your own pace was Solid.
I really enjoy both his courses, I'm also in Religion and Sports and find that the way he organizes the work, weekly announcements and friendlies are very refreshing! Not all professors are as kind and willing to work with students as he is! He made my semester enjoyable! :)
Very informative and extremely interesting topics. I loved re-watching some of my favorite cinemas with a new perspective. The course challenged many of my traditional beliefs with new knowledge of historical religions. He made the course "wonderfilled"! You'll get this when you take the course. :)
The course was very well organized and the documentaries, films, and materials offered for the course were very relevant and easy to understand.I also appreciated the self-paced nature of the course, which is very helpful if you have a family, work full time, or both. The choice of cultures and traditions discussed in the course were amazing!
Some of his test questions were not written well and he grades them subjectively. Pay attention to all of the material he gives and the class won't be too bad, especially the past test questions review sheet.
Best course I have taken at USF hands down!
Just finished the Summer Semester. I really appreciated this class. The readings were very interesting and it gave me a different outlook on life and death. Great class and I will highly recommend it to others.
Would take another one of his classes in the future. Life After Death was very interesting and I've never had a class like it before!
I am completely gracious for the course set up, allowing me to catch up and still complete the class itself. I have recommended the class to a ton of friends who, in my perspective, can mentally keep up with the material and enjoy the subject material as much as I did.
Very eye opening class! :)
Nice course. The class had very interesting content. I really enjoyed the layout of the course with it being self paced. I was able to take my time and focus on organic chemistry while doing work on the weekends. There are quizzes, but you can find most answers at the end of text. 2 exams, 1 paper, and 1 powerpoint.
There are two tests, a handful of quizzes, 1 short paper, and 1 presentation. The quizzes are easy and all of the answers can be found in the text. The paper is based off a movie you will watch for the class. The only problem I had was that some of his guidelines were not very clear. The class was interesting otherwise.
As I have watched other films or had conversations with others it is truly amazing how much this course material has transpired into life. There are days when I can relate something I have learned in this course into my life. I was looking forward to this course and now that it has come to a close I can say I have learned so much.
First poor review I've ever had to write of a professor. An A is a 95.8% and is tough to achieve. You buy a convoluted 200 page word document as the text to teach yourself. He refused to meet with me or discuss any material beyond email basis. His effort level to facilitate learning was pathetic - just a weekly email to reiterate the due dates.
This professor is horrid with communication. His tests are composed of trick questions, where the entire question with the exception of one word, title, character, etc. is wrong. One on occasion, it took this professor nine days to reply to a time sensitive issue. He included Youtube videos that were on private, deleted URLS, etc. on quizzes.
I am not sure if those last comments were for the same teacher-course? This was an inspiring clear easy to follow course. The Professor was accessible and helped me through a tough time I went through at home. It is 100% and the manuscript was spot on.
I have to say this class did put things in perspective for me, especially the myth of HIStory I never seen it that way before. Thankful for him teaching the class.
Those three "Poor" Posts are from the same student. I was the TA for this course. She was upset because she waited the last week to complete all the work. Her smart phone was not accessing CANVAS, the documentary's, movies etc.. and she was not aware the Course Manuscript had the study guide and practice quizzes because she did not read.
Good Class, self-paced format was perfect for me.
A majority of the answers to the quizzes and found at the end of the LAD manuscript. Some of the questions are very difficult and there is a lot of material. If your final grade is less than a 96% but still an A you'll get an A- which is a bit unfair. The material is interesting for the most part.
This class is one of the best online courses at USF. Hands-down! It is self-paced, low cost on only one book, has practice exams and a study guide, movies about life after death, oh and it is interesting.
A couple links for the course didn't work properly and I was not able to access the movies for the course which is a big deal. However I was able to view some of them through other venues. He's a great teacher in person. I did appreciate the fact that course is self paced. It was also outlined very well, you have to be motivated to pass this class
I did greatly enjoy the course and its material. I give positive reviews as well. I just want to say almost all of the material was new to me and opened my eyes to other religions and views of life after death. I'm not too religious myself and it made me think about and consider things that I hadn't before. I even
The first half of the class is super easy with practice questions that are almost exactly the same as the ones that appear on the quizzes/tests. The second half doesn't include those practice questions so you will have to rely mostly on the powerpoints to understand the material, and anything you don't understand should be in the LAD manual.
I loved taking this class, it was very enlightening! The movies were a great watch.
I did greatly enjoy the course and almost all of the material was new to me and opened my eyes to other religions and views. I'm not too religious myself and it made me think about and consider things that I hadn't before. I even found myself applying it at work; there are a lot of people from the middle east where I work.
The Life After Death class was extremely boring. I really wouldn't recommend this class. I thought it would be interesting, but this ended up being one of the few classes I regret taking.
- Took the class online. The class if self-paced but I wouldn't recommend leaving everything for the last minute. - Almost all quizzes' and exams' answers can be found on the manuscript you have to purchase at the beginning of the semester.
I took him for Life after death. Take the class people, Hes a really cool professor and you don't need a textbook he provides you with readings. All you need to do is study the reading he gives you and you will pass. (he also has movies for you to watch)
Warning the class will make you reevaluate what is important in life. Took this class with a friend. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G
Excellent Course. Best in USF thus far. Me and my friend took the course this Spring. There are many questions about life that religion can and has answered, but the art of applying those values and views to one's life can be jarring. Enter this Course at your own risk, and enjoy the ride. :-)
A lot of readings, however exams are easy, plus a lot of extra credit. Highly recommend.
Prof. Saunders is a nice guy but the class seems to be so disorganized. There's quizzes every chapter and you definitely need the textbooks in order to pass. There is a ton of material to study for all of the exams (3 of them). It is just way too much material given for a course. It is not that hard of a class; it is just difficult to understand.
Professor Saunders is such a nice guy and really wants his students to succeed. He makes lectures fun and they're also interesting. He's a fair grader and offered a lot of extra credit. I would definitely recommend him for a religious studies class!
I read the reviews on here and thought this class would be an easy A. While an A is definitely achievable with extra credit opportunities and easy assignments, the first few weeks of the class are definitely disorganized. Also, a LOT of reading and a lot of information to know given this is an introductory class.
The class was a very easy A+ but there were many assignments that contributed to my A. A lot of it seemed like busy work but I barely studied and still got a high grade. He had a weird sense of humor but was quirky. The TAs mainly taught the class and 3/4 of them sucked at teaching. I never read the textbook but needed it to do the vocab.
This was an interesting class. Hurricane Irma made the first weeks tricky because of all the class cancellations. However, Professor Saunders was the MOST accommodating teacher, allowing extra time to catch up, and self-paced for the first ten weeks. I have not had a Professor that cares so much for my academic success.
I thought this course was amazing He did everything to ensure student success!
I thoroughly enjoyed the course, especially from the perspective it was taught and structured. This course surpassed all of my expectations.
Saunders is a sweet guy and wants his students to do well. It's definitely an easy A or A+ since most of the assignments are to be on your own every week or every other week. Put in the work (mostly online) and you'll get a great grade. Tests are difficult but directly from the reading. Highly recommend!
He is a really easy grader and a really funny guy. You can get a B just by doing all of the extra credit he offers. 3/4 exams are online and are really easy.
This class is a huge lecture. Attendance isn't mandatory- but it is graded. There is a lot of assignments, but there is SOOOO much opportunity for extra credit.
This class is amazing. It is a writing course or fulfills the writing requirement. It has 5 papers and plenty of extra credit and thats it. GREAT CLASS
Mr. Saunders was not a bad teacher, but he also wasn't the best. Most of the time his TA's did the teaching and he kind of just stood by. The class itself wasn't hard. But you do have study considering it can be a little confusin on the tests. Some of our assignments consisted of peer review essays , which was pretty easy to do. he also offers EC
there is a lot of extra credit. Be careful to submit your movie choice for your project on time as it is not listed on canvas as an assessment. I forgot to and it cost me like 15 points but I made it up with extra credit lectures. Prof Saunders is fair and patient and informative. I would take him again and recommend him. The class was interesting
Great professor. If you got to all of his extra credit you will pass the class even if you fail an exam. He is very entertaining but you got to listen to him in class or you wont know if he change the assignments.
Class is easy though there are a lot of tedious assignments However the main problem I had in this class was w/the teacher. He told us we can work ahead but there would be some errors in assignments or in grading or unclear grading criteria Even when he said he would fix it, it wasnt entirely fixed. frustrating especially bc its not his first time
Overall a really good lecturer. Gives clear instructions and homework is used for class participation. Lectures are interesting and interactive. A lot of the homework and quite a few test questions come from the text books assigned, so reading is necessary. Gives A LOT of extra credit.
not the best lectures, kind of just answering questions, most information will come from reading the long chapters. tests are online and all based off of previous quizzes that he hands back making the tests extremely easy. offers tons of extra credit points through out the semester, seems hard to not pass.
Nice guy but disorganized. If you're organized and thorough, he will drive you nuts but don't sweat it because you'll get an A if you do extra credit and show up. Tests are hard and confusing but midterm and final are online and he gives you back your old tests to "study" wink wink. Easy A just keep your expectations low as far as class quality.
Mr. Saunders is nice but 85% of class time was spent with students presenting group projects, with very little actual teaching taking place. Easy A, but you won't learn much. Also very disorganized.
This class was easy to receive an A in if you went to class regularly, but the professor was very disorganized and lacked a clear teaching method. Most of the class was spent listening to other students' lectures or lectures that didn't seem to fit with our material.
Excellent teacher- and learning experience.
Good class. Instructor was very kind, and respectful and put us all at ease through stimulating and active participation projects. The only downsize is that the class size is so big and many students can be disrupting which makes it difficult at times to stay focused on the Professor.
Highly recommend taking if you would like an easy class and it fills one of the required sections! He always has fun extra credit opportunities and makes the class easy to understand. Always has a caring and smiling face, but all I can say is TAKE THE CLASS! p.s. I'm not even that into religion he just makes it great.
He was great!
Dont even bother coming to class, just read. He is very disorganized and makes you write so many useless papers. His teaching skills are not the best either, since he is all over the place. Some of the exam questions and answers are confusing and he keeps changing the answers,
great professor! there are 4 writing assignments (very easy and straightforward), 2 exams, and a final. there are TONS of extra credit opportunities. also attendence isnt mandatory but he often gives extra credit to those who attend lectures. the lecture also covers what you need to know for the exams (which are very easy as well) :)
Mr. Saunders made the lectures engaging and made me want to show up, even though I didn't need the class. There was TONS of extra credit in the class. Attendance not mandatory, but was extra credit. The exams totaled to about 65% of your grade, so if you're a bad test taker it'll be difficult. There were also 4 writing assignments.
This class would've been so easy if it wasn't for the hard ass TA's. I have never received a F on a paper and I did twice in this class. I had to go into office hours a fight for my grade for him to bring it up to a C. The professor does not respond to emails and is disorganized. The exams are online; however, he has trick questions on the exam.
Really boring and off topic professor BUT... -Make sure you do most of his extra credits if you want an A!! -There are couple papers but theyre arent that hard. -Most of the test answers are online especially the last exam. Do the extra credittttt
The exams are online, and the assignments are fairly easy. LOTS of Extra credit and some assignments relate to watching a movie and answering questions about them and how they tie in with religion. Answers questions clearly and doesn't include opinions when discussing religion!
The TA's engaged with us more than he did. He's okay, he's not the worst, but he could've been more engaging than just reading off of powerpoints. There are movies you have to watch by a certain day and then he'll give you pop quizzes at the next class meeting, which are not graded lightly. Other than that, it's a really easy class.
I'm confident that my experience was this negative because I had opted for the online class rather than the in-person version. The course was hard to keep track of with its scattered due dates and times. The grading criteria was not clear at all, resulting in harm to my GPA. There are many extra credit opportunities however.
This professor was so rude and was completely unorganized. The teacher refused to get on a call to answer my questions and I would send emails with four questions and get back a one sentence response. His instructions are unclear and refuses to get on calls during office hours to answer questions. His canvas is so unorganized its crazy.
Saunders is a nice guy, but this class was super unorganized. We only learned a quarter of the course material because everything was taken up by a group project. Due dates kept changing, some assignments were completely dropped, canvas had no assingment information, and class time was taken up by everyone trying to understand what was due when.
This class was extremely complicated and disorganized. The instruction for every assignment is vague, the canvas page is messy and the semester long group project was a nightmare. This class was interesting, the grading is very lenient and the professor is laid back but the unorganized nature of the class is enough to off put anyone.
As long as you're okay with group work this class is cake. Just show up and complete assignments. The reading portion of this course is heavy but he is super accommodating and does take home online quizzes. He really cares about his students and you'd have to try hard to not get an A.
Professor Saunders was pretty nice to work with, his rubric was a bit vague so if you are unsure about something ask. The most difficult part of the course was the group work and some of the quizzes, be sure to read all the required reading and pay attention because the tests are tedious. He offers extra credit opportunities to boost your grade.
very excited to teach, extremely understanding, and nice. I would definitely take him again!
I hope that Prof. Saunders is a better professor in person, there was constantly missing information and unclear instruction. There is so much reading that honestly you don't need to do, most answers can be found with some research and just general knowledge. The topics are actually interesting so maybe this is just a better course in person.
The type of teacher who teaches a bunch of online courses at once and then forgets to actually teach. He grades so harsh, yet always misinforms students on project instructions. He links incorrect articles, sends announcements to the wrong people, and refuses to give feedback. He gets frustrated when students confront him about his poor teaching.
Professor was nice but very all over the place. Went to almost every class and was still lost most of the time. He's not really accessible outside class and will give one-word emails. The textbook was full of nonsensical jargon and made no sense. The TA's are very critical. The projects were fun and interesting though. He is very passionate.
Professor Saunders is really positive and kind, but woowee is his class structure abysmal. If you're bad at group projects don't even bother signing up for his class cause your entire grade relies on your group members chipping in. Asynchronous online classes should not have group projects!
Professor Saunders is nice and thoughtful, his lectures are fun. I took his class in person, but we often had issues cause he's not tech savvy at all. It's hard to understand assignments' rubrics and grading info. He can be flexible w due dates and attendance, but participation is crucial. Whole class is focused on a main group project.
this class itself wasn't hard but it was really boring. the professor doesn't really give clear indications of what he wants when you have to write a paper which was confusing and caused me to loose points. no attendance required but lots of reading and assignments, not hard but he is a confusing grader
I feel this course itself is easy, however having him as an instructor is possibly the most confusing thing in the world. The structure is all over the place and the quiz links are often incorrect. More than anything else, there is just a lack of information on what certain assignments are or what the 'correct' submission is.
The professor is hit or miss - sometimes engaging, other times distant. Textbook is confusing, but extra credit and online exams help. unstuck study was a lifesaver for preparing. Overall, an average experience.
He always responds back to emails. About 1 assignment each month plus a easy group project at the end. One exam that is online, not lockdown! Lots of reading but is very insightful. Learned the most in this class than any. :)
