Swieter is very hard and a terrible teacher. His tests are hard also. He trys to trick you and he is out there to make your life miserable. He even admits that he is unfair, so that should tell you to stay away from his class.

This class is hard, but he's a pretty straight forwared guy. He lets you know what he wants. Very picky grader, but makes you more prepared for the next chemistry sequence.

I learned nothing in Chem 1 and everything i was supposed to learn in that class, Don stayed after class and made sure I learned it. He really cares and will make you work your --- off but you'll come out really learning something.

Don is a great teacher. He really has a passion for chemistry, and knows how to explain in "lamens" terms. He really does care as long as you care and put in the effort. Very helpful after class.

i failed this class. he is extremely hard and i didnt put nearly enough effort. if you think you can skate by and not study this is NOT the class for you. he provides help if you ask for it and you definately should! handwriting is impossible to read.

He's a terrible teacher and generally unpleasant to be around. His tests are impossible, no partial credit, no multiple choice. No homework or outside grades so you're entire grade is based on labs(which he grades very harshly) and three tests. The average scores on his test are in the 50's.

The "Don" is a hard professor, but he really cares how his students do in his class and other chem classes. His tests are close to impossible but he is a good guy.

He is a great lecturer, and covers all the material thouroughly. He will put in all the time you need in his office, but watch out for his tests! You'll need to know your stuff to get an A, but it can be done.

Let us say that I'm done with my 4-year college degree and I think Swieter was the worst teacher I had. His exams are brutally hard when compared to his lectures. He will not curve at all, even if the whole damn class fails. He will make fun of you when seeking help. Not worth it.

Hardest class ever, out of 48 people only 16 passed. Avoid this teacher like the Plague. He will NOT curve, even if everybody fails. He doesn't mind giving everybody F's

Don is a good guy.His tests are HARD, but he will miss his lunch to help out a student.I believe if you're studying for a pre-proffesional exam he'll send your score through the roof.

Don is a great teacher. He will do anything for a student. For those preparing for the MCAT or PCAT this man will teach you the stuff. Don't get me wrong you will work your tail off. He is not easy, but if you put in the work and study like he says and stay ontop of things you will be alright.

He smells like a fart and he doesn't know anything about Chemistry. That is why he is teaching at a community college instead of out making big money in the private sector. If you took him forget everything he taught you when you go to a real college with real professors.

Very hard course. Great teacher! He will not dumb down material.This course is for serious students who are prepared for a challenge and a great education. Don cares very much and will help those who request it. He picks the trickiest questions for the test so make sure you can manipulate the math.

A great professor who really wants everyone to succeed, I had a problem in the middle of the semester & he was very supportive & understanding. Myself and my study partner both studied our butts off, learned a hellofalot about chemistry, and both got A's. Really glad i took this course. Not easy.

beyond all doubt, this was the hardest teacher i've ever had. these people who are saying that he will make fun of you and that he'll fail the whole class and that he doesn't curve are all honest people. LISTEN TO THEM! horrible teacher! studying and doing the homework does NOT help at ALL! avoid at all costs. he will ruin someone's GPA (like mine)

anyone who blames their failures on this OR ANY teacher needs to be reminded that you're in college now!!! Sweiter is a great teacher. Stop relying on curves, and extra credit to pass the class. I had absolutely no chemistry backgound and got 95 or higher on ever test. Go to class, study your notes, and understand the concepts!It's not a free ride.

Great teacher, but is one of the toughest teacher's ever. The test are extremely hard. He is a great lecturer, and i advise that you do go to his office if you have questions.

He is very hard. Lectures don't have a lot to do with tests. If you want to pass memorize previous tests. don't plan on getting much work returned to you. This is not chem I that was easy. This man wants everyone to be graduate students already.

Thought he was a good teacher. Labs are incredibly time consuming, but overall the class isn't terribly difficult, because the grading scale is somewhat generous (85% for A). He's accessible and will help. His writing sucks, but he knows it and will read it back to you if you ask. I suggest sitting at the front and reading the text too...

I pulled an A but the class was rough! I studied more for this class than i ever have before. Labs suck, crazy hard too. He's a good teacher as far as helping you learn the material but expects you to know chemistry inside an out.

yes, chemistry is a hard subject, but this teacher is insane. He has to make an A 85% because otherwise everyone would fail his class. Our class avg. on tests was in the low 60's, he does not return labs, no matter how much you ask for them and will tell you straight up that chemistry should be your life if you want to pass his class. Why bother? If you ask him a question- he tells you to go to his website. Or he is rude and condescending. I had to DROP this class to save my GPA! I couldn't believe the ratings before (my schedule times only matched his class) but now I know he is THAT BAD. Save your sanity- don't take him. Why are there so many bad CHEM teachers @ SF???

Ok here's the thing, If you have to take Chem 1 for you major and your going to take chem 2, then his class is helpfull becuase I think he's the best chem teacher when it comes to teaching, but is hard and takes a lot of effort on your own...But if you have to take chem for the hell of it, then DO NOT TAKE HIM!, it will be hard to pass, but 85% is

man. don was a hard teacher...but he is straightforward from day one...he says hes a hard teacher, he does not care if you come to class, if you fail or not fail. as stated above, he will not return labs b/c he says students rely too heavily on those grades...u have to do HW sets to succeed. do those and golden. tests very hard..good luck with him

Don is a very hard teacher. If you do well in his class you are certain to do well in chem 2. We had over 33 kids at the beginning of the year. By drop date we had 11, and the majority of those kids were praying for a C-. Don't take his class; but if you do, do every hw set multiple times, and allow a few hours to complete and study labs. :o(

I hated him for the first month, but then I got used to his admittedly strange sense of humor. He demands a lot from his students, but will spend hours with them in his office to help, going over the stuff as many times as necessary. He's very smart, knows a ton about chemistry. The tests aren't that difficult if you've studied the homeworks.

prof swieter might be a really nice guy outside of class. but his class is horrible!!!! i think he enjoys seeing how many people will drop each semester. he goes way to indepth about things not needed till chem2 (it was only intro) and confuses you. i enjoy chemistry but hate his class! 59 students started less than 16 finished,enough said!

This class was very difficult for me because alot of things were learned out of order so we had to memorize alot of things. This is his first time teaching 1025; he is use to teaching 2045 so he talked to us like we were suppose to know everything. I think he forgot it was an intro class.

Very hard course. Very helpful in office hours. Nice guy,doesn't seem to want anyone to know that. A little impatient,makes you feel stupid. If you really want to learn subject and be ready for the next level, he is great. Work all problems on his homework sheets,they are on the tests. Gives no extra credit or breaks. Very picky in lab. Stressful

First off, don't even bother taking chem unless you're prepared to put a lot of time and effort into studying. It's gonna be hard regardless of who your professor is. That said, Swieter isn't that bad of a choice. He's a fairly nice guy, and explains things excellently when on a one-to-one basis. However, he tests hard, so watch out!

Great teacher! If you attend class everyday and pay attention his class is easy, I'd only recommend him for science majors though. He loves chemistry and wants you to understand. Notes are straight forward and exact, you do not need a text book for him! He is very big on sig figs and rounding correctly, ppl lose lots of points for that on tests!

You must be prepared to attend class every day, and be a good note-taker; starts out rough to "weed out" the students who won't put forth the effort, but comes around towards the middle of the semester, and is very helpful outside of class. Don't take his class if you're not a science major, it'll be a waste of time and unneeded stress.

He was a horrible teacher. We started out with 50 people... ended up with 15. And those 15 aren't doing good. You can't understand anythign he writes and he makes you feel stupid when you ask him questions. I do not reccommend him to anybody.

Don is very helpful outside of class during his office hours, but be prepared to study every night for at least three hours every single day. Very very hard, but will prepare you for chem1 and chem2. Don't take him if you are not ready to work very hard.

Don was very tough in the beginning, the class average for our first test was 44, but after that he started spending more time on material making sure we understood it. I think he is a good professor now, but you will spend countless hours going for the A.

Wow, Don is probably the worst teacher Ive ever had. If you want to ask a question think twice because youll probably get another question or rude remark...Took his class for the first three weeks..decided after the whole class failed our test this guy was a total ass. Bring in a 2liter coke and maybe get some extra credit he drinks one every lab

don is probably one of the best chem professors at sfc. everyone does horrible on his first test probably cuz it was a weedout and then his next two are pretty easy if you get a study group and study ur butts off. his handwritting is absolutely terrible though...sit in the front row!!

DO NOT LISTEN to the people who have given him good reviews. His teaching ability is absolutely horrible and yes this is "college" but it shouldn't mean we have to deal with horrible teachers. Also he doesn't care about the student's success at all...he prides himself in failing students and braggs about it during class lecture instead of teaching.

Do not take Don Swieter if maintaining a high gpa is important to you. You will spend countless hours studying for his tests, and end up getting a D+. He gives no partial credit, so even if you workout the problems correctly and get the correct answer, he will mark it wrong if it is not in his exact format. The usual class average for tests was 45%

Ok here is the truth about Donnie's class...if you are not planning to go on to any kind of a scientific based grad school then don't take him because he does expect you to know your chem. Now for all of you people going into the science or medical fields you should not be in the easy A mentality. Asking his help+ making an effort= good grade.

HE encourages a negative learning environment to the point of distraction from the material covered.I got an A in CHM 1 & 2 at my 4 year college. Took this course as a refresher for MCAT. The professor is AWFUL. He publicly berated students, degraded different cultural dialects on several occasions, gloats in students confusion. Generally vexing.

He is the worst teacher... This class is impossible to get an A. I spent everyday studying, went to office hour (all he did was yell and curse, not helpful), and went to every single lab, and lecture and all the hw problems (not required). I would ask other students in Chem 1, and they don't even know what I was learning.. CLASS exam average 64%.

The course is difficult, prepare to spend a lot of time studying. He gives notes that are incomplete and hard to read. Grades very harsh, on tests he does not give partial credit. Briefly covers topics then expects you to be an expert! If you have had Chemistry before and know what you are doing then take him, but otherwise do not take him!

I wouldint reccomend Mr. Swieter, he treats his students like they are stupid when they ask him a question and he switches subjects so much during class that you arent sure what to take notes osice his lecture is half material you need to know and half him talking to the class about unneede info. On tests no one made over an 82.

Do not take. Very rude, makes students feel stupid for asking questions. Handwriting is completely illegible and makes hard to understand notes. Class average for exams was 45%. Knows his chemistry but expects everyone to be a chemistry genius and if not, is not helpful or a good teacher at all.

I worked hard, got an A, and now I know the material. He is a good professor, but he challenges you and expects you to show him that you know the material on the test. If you are taking Chem 1, you probably need Chem 2 and maybe OChem also. IF you can pass his class, you will be ready for Chem 2. Bottom line, take him if you need to know Chemistry.

ALERT TO EVERYONE: DO NOT TAKE! Absolutely RUDE! Absolutely no note cards allowed on tests. Must memorize all formulas!! Could really careless if you fail. He WANTS you to fail or drop. Will make you feel stupid. Can not ask questions with out him getting an attitude.

Seriously, this is the worst class ever. He makes chemistry so much harder than it has to be - little to no partial credit on exams (they are not multiple choice), only 5 labs a semester (most do 10) so no padding to your grade, EXTREMELY rude and mean if you ask questions, makes you feel stupid, will embarrass you in front of the class for fun.

Swieter is difficult if you didn't take a hard high school chem like AP. He is a nice guy, and will help but you HAVE TO ask. He doesn't feel bad if you are failing, and he will just tell you to work harder. He is NOT for the meek, or faint of heart. Material is hard, and if you work hard and study everyday it is possible to pass him.

I am going to be direct, he does care about his students, but does not tolerate lazy students. You have to attend his office hours and class, it is a MUST to pass his class. No textbook is necessary, the tests are based upon his online homework sets and notes. Only 5 labs, so not much room for mistakes. I feel as though I have learned a great deal.

This mans class, although difficult, is great if you're going to be a science major. He knows his stuff and he explains things well. If you pay attention in class and if you're not understanding the material he's willing help you understand it. He may seem a bit off putting with his methods, but he's attempting to get you thinking for yourself.

Class is HARD but its chemistry. He knows everything to the point. Although its a demanding class he'll help you understand what his teaching. Labs are easy if you know your stuff. Must read handouts and notes. Class shouldn't be missed. Book is not required but its good to have. Overall this teacher is sweet and kind no matter what grade I got.

Truly one of the best teachers i have ever had. Not only did Swieter help me understand the material, but he inspired me to become passionate about chemistry. His class was by no measure easy, it required effort and was time consuming but I still pulled and A and come the final exam, i felt prepared. Only advice actually work through the homework.

Started the class with about 40 students, down to 18 in the last week (8 got an 80 or above on the last test). Very time demanding. Must do the HW, labs, and visit his office. He wants you to know the material and its a Very hard class. Tends to ramble but most of the time can manage to get everything covered. Good luck, you are going to need it.

This is one of the best professors in the chemistry department. Do not be intimidated by what you have read below. This man sincerely cares about his students and he wants you to learn the material the right way. He is always helpful and willing to stay after class to answer questions. Take this teacher you will not regret it!

He grades hard and expects you to know how to apply what you study, but you really learn chemistry in his class. He is extremely helpful as well, I started going to his office hours after the first test and he went over everything I had trouble with, even if it was stupid, like how to use my scientific calculator. Definitely recommend him.

Very tough professor. However, you will learn chemistry in this class. He will prepare you well for CHM2045 and CHM 2046. Tough grader, but he explains everything that will be on a test, and expect anything that has been covered to be tested.

His course is hard, so I recommend you do not to take many other classes with this one. He will help you as much as you need. Measurements will be on 2 tests, so make sure you know it. And do the homework sets, it will help you a lot

Dr. Swieter is a tough professor, but he is very helpful. Chemistry in itself is difficult, If you attend class and office hours regularly and do the homework sets, you should be fine. If you're motivated and actually want to learn chemistry, I would seriously recommend him. He is the BEST Chemistry professor at SF hands down. Good luck!

Worst teacher I have ever had. Chemistry already isn't easy, but he makes it impossible to pass. 38 of 50 students dropped his class. Some say he is a good teacher, and he is, if you consider someone who steamrolls through everything and doesn't take a second to review a good teacher. If you are a Chemistry major, switch schools.

I would not advise taking this professor. Even after working extremely hard (doing all the hw, going to office hours) I still have a D+, and my grade is one of the highest in the class. The class went from 48 down to 18, and 14 out of the 18 have either a D or an F. Take someone else if you want even a glimmer of hope for an A or a B.

He is a VERY HARD teacher. Chemistry isn't an easy subject so if you're looking to do well in it, this is NOT the class to take. Take it with someone else. His tests are EXTREMELY hard, even with studying. Class dropped from 48 to 14 and only 1 person has a B! Definitely wouldn't recommend him!!

Dr. Swieter is definitely a difficult professor, however he is the best. Students who aren't willing to work for their grade should steer clear. This course time consuming. Dr. Swieter is always willing to help, if you ask for it. He prefers that students want to learn Chemistry and put forth effort to do succeed. Overall, an outstanding professor.

Dr. Swieter is hands down the best Chemistry professor at SF. If you don't have an interest in learning (and learning to work on your own) take someone else. If you are only interested in doing the minimum, take someone else. Dr. Swieter is helpful but he can't read minds so you must ask for it. 3 exams + final. Does not use any specific text.

DON'T DO IT!!! If you want to learn, sure his lectures are good and you WILL learn, don't get me wrong. However, IF YOU WANT TO PASS, TAKE SOMEONE ELSE. Our class wasn't lazy but 35 out of 40 people withdrew due to failing grades. At least he was nice enough to let us drop past the date. He's nice and funny, but the toughest grader I've ever had.

Very very difficult class to pass, your entire grade depends on 5 exams. He doesn't give any partial credit on any of the tests either. Class just consists of lecture and you have to do a lot of work independently. When I asked him questions for help he was very rude and he doesn't seem willing to help. I don't recommend him at all.

Hands down the best instructor I've ever had for any class ever. High school included. Regardless of what some comments below say, if you go to class, pay attention, and take notes you will do well. I did all of the suggested homework sets and studied only the notes I took in class, and I got an 86, 99, and 100 on the the 3 exams. Earn your grade!

Took for intro 2 chem and pretty much relearned everything I already had my 2 years of high school chem. Needless to say, I thought I knew it until I took this class and I ended up overestimating myself. DONT BUY THE RECOMMENDED TEXTBOOK! He will tell you the first day to use any book you want. Somewhat easy to talk to but he expects you to study.

Harsh grader but grading scale is curved to make up for it. Explains material thoroughly and clearly. Delves deeper than other teachers. Helpful when you have questions. No surprises on the tests. Do the homework sets, study your notes and you should be good. Many people dropped but I didn't see theirfaces in office hours if that tells you anything

Hands down! Professor Swieter is INTELLIGENT! He definitely knows the real meaning of Chemistry. There's lot of work to be done independently, but that's because you're in college not high school. There's office hours if you need help and he definitely helps out. His class is not hard, it's just Chemistry that is time-demanding. Highly suggested!

I took 3 test. When I received test back with wrong answers, I wasn't fully competent to check if they were actually wrong or not. After studying and studying and studying to improve my grades, I reviewed test and realized that there were more than 6 questions throughout all test marked wrong that should have been correct. Thats more than 10 points

DONT TAKE IT! Yes, he's a smart guy when it comes to Chemistry but he's an awful teacher. He is a very harsh grader and is hard to understand. Class is only worth 500 points-3 tests (100pts each), the labs (100pts) and the final (100pts). He only offers 2 extra assignments worth only 10 points so nothing really that can help your grade.

He is the WORST professor I have ever taken. I am a Biology major and have interest in science but this man has made me seriously dislike chemistry. He is not helpful. He expects you to know the material prior to the class. He is smug and just a terrible professor. He knows his chemistry but some people just should not teach. I don't recommend him.

This class is VERY harsh. Make sure you read and STUDY. Do not take his HW sets for granted. The 100 pts for lab is merged with your grade so take it seriously!Go to his office hours whenever possible to make sure they are perfect. He knows his stuff, but stubborn in his own ways. If you stick it through, the department exam is CAKE.

Having Don as a teacher is like having a walking talking textbook. They guy knows chemistry forwards and backwards. He's a real old-school guy. Don does not use Powerpoint, works out problems on the board, and explains things as many times as you need. He also has tons of office hours. He really wants you to be a chem genius. Best class ever.

Great teacher, hard class. He values his students and puts in considerable office hours. I wish I had taken Don for 1025 and 2045. I went to his office hours each week and that makes a world of difference. He doesn't take attendance but I would suggest not missing any classes. Do his homework sets and ask him for help, he will give it to you.

If you have the option, NEVER take a Swieter class. He constantly disrespects his students. You just have to go in the class knowing that you will be ridiculed. He knows everything about chemistry, so he expects you to remember everything. Make sure you go to his office hours for help. If you need a B or higher in this class, DO NOT TAKE his class.

If you want a professor you can be friends with, admire, and feel like you can talk to, Swieter is not your guy. However, if you want someone who will give you your best fighting chance at navigating Chemistry, you really need to sign up for his class. If you're mature, diligent, and able to put up with not a small amount of abuse you'll be fine.

Beware. He seems really snooty and cold hearted but if you ask for help one on one he's pretty good at it. Go to office hours, ask questions, never stop studying and you MAY pass. This class is EXTREMELY difficult in itself but he makes it much harder than it needs to be. You'll need all the luck you can get. Good thing is a 62 is a C.

His class is ridiculous, puts the blame on the students when the class average was a 40 on the first test. His grading is extreme, and I had to drop this class because of this. Does NOT properly prepare his students for the tests. He seems particularly salty that UF didn't hire him.

He definitely is a very tough professor to take regardless of what class you're taking with him. No partial credit. You have to actually know chemistry to get high scores. Highly recommended for chemistry majors and engineering majors. If not these two majors, you should probably choose someone else.

No chem knowledge going in and A coming out. Be committed to doing the homework sets and going to office hours because this is pretty much your exams. Take all class notes because he'll make you check them when you ask something. Ask the stupid questions, he will abuse you with the answer but you will remember it forever. Memorize whatever he says!

Has a negative grading scale where any points lost after 10 begin to take away from your next lab. EX: you get 20 questions wrong on the first lab, you must get the next 2 labs 100% to have a 0 in the lab section of your grade.

Though my ratings are low, he was an excellent teacher. He definitely is tough and expects to see you work hard for a good grade (though he always says the class is easy.) Great for people that have a good enough understanding of Chem, but not good enough for Chem 1.

If you want a good grade in this class you are actually going to have to study every day even though it's intro chem. I thought going in it would be easy because it is intro chem, but with swieter it is NOT easy. His tests are tricky on purpose and he is a very harsh grader. You need to know everything for the tests. Most people got D&F's on tests

Don't underestimate him. DO the homework sets, GO to office hours and definitely DO NOT miss class or labs. Unless you're a savant you will be working hard to pass. He is a tough grader and there is a lot of new information to absorb. He can be very intimidating but if you go to his private office hours he is very helpful and a lot kinder.

Horrible professor, berates everyone and sits around while the entire class is making the same mistake in lab, then tells them all the same thing individually, wasting everyone's time. He could be a lot more interactive with his labs and does not give any guidance for tests. I attended every class and lab and still had to withdraw.

First thing you need to realize going into this class, it's hard af. Unless you have extensive knowledge of Chemistry already under your belt, you absolutely need to put in the hours to study, or you will not pass. That being said, he gives you homework sets, do them. He can drift during lecture but clearly knows the subject very well

The only things graded are labs, 3 tests and a final. The man talks down to people constantly. I get most people are right out of high school taking this course but some(especially veterans) are well removed from the high school mentality. No professor/teacher should treat students like grade school kids in college. Very disrespectful.

Dr. Swieter embodies the thought of being outside your comfort zone in order to grow. Yes it is a challenge but you will walk out a better student, guaranteed. If higher chemistries are in your future, do yourself a favor and take his class. There's no question he that he will prepare you, the only question is do you have what it takes to pass?

Chemistry is one of the hardest sciences and Swieter is one of the hardest professors. But he's only difficult in consequence to the material. He cares about his students knowing all of the material and even some stuff for CHM2045. If you're serious about chemistry, this is the class to take.

He thinks hes teaching Organic Chemistry 2 at Harvard. This class is INTRO chem. He makes it hard and his tests have the smallest little detailed thing that he wrote in the notes. He's also a very rude individual. He needs to realize that this is INTRO chemistry not Organic chemistry. Only good thing about him is that its so hard you'll know chem.

This class is TOUGH. He expects us to know as much as he does and does make you feel dumb if you ask questions aloud. However, his harsh grading and demand for explanation will prepare you very well for CHM2045. I knew next to nothing about chemistry before his class but I now have a good grasp of it. Would recommend if you want to know more.

This man is by far the best professor I have had thus far. He really forces you to learn. The course is definitely tough, however, if you put the time into the material outside of the class you should have no trouble passing. I highly recommend going to his office hours. If I could take him for Chem 1 & 2 I would. Don't let others discourage you.

Okay, so starting off the semester I really disliked Swieter. I felt like he was unhelpful and very difficult. But as the semester progressed I realized that he really did care about all his students, and really just wanted me to learn the material. I started going to office hours, and he was very helpful and friendly. Honestly, great professor

Swieter's class is fast-paced and rather difficult to follow if you're not already decent at chemistry. I felt like I was left in the dust most of the time during class. He doesn't use PowerPoints, only lectures. His handwriting is hard to read on a good day. If you're a visual learner, and need a good visual to help understand, he isn't for you.

Swieter is the definition of old school. He teaches from a yellowed binder of hand-written notes that he still brings to class even though he has it memorized. Don't bother buying a textbook, but take good notes. If you are going into a science field: 100% would recommend: Study. If you're just looking for an easy A, avoid his class at all costs.

He only uses a whiteboard to write notes and does not upload them to anything, so show up to class. My main complaint is that you will probably spend more time trying to read his writing than trying to understand the course. His class is hard in general, expect 2 hours studying a day to get an A. For reference, passing grade for my class was a 63.

Swieter was a VERY difficult, especially if it's been a hot minute since you've taken a chemistry course. That being said, I still learned a LOT from his class. Take thorough notes and DO THE HOMEWORK SETS. Go to office hours because he's a lot more accessible then than in class. If you want to excel in your further chemistry courses, take him!

Don Sweiter is by far the worst professor I had at Santa Fe College. His class was mostly white board lectures where most of the time he goes off topic and talks about things that don't relate to chemistry. On top of that, his handwriting looks like a 2nd graders handwriting. If he doesn't like you, you will not pass. My advice, NEVER TAKE HIM

Swieter is a brilliant man but struggles relate to a student's learning level. His class is based purely off of in-class notes but his handwriting is illegible so you must write as fast as he speaks. Swieter spent more time explaining how scientists came up with a scientific theory than explaining what the the theory itself was & how to apply it.

He is not good at teaching chemistry, unless you are a strong auditory learner because he creates barely any visuals. Also it is obvious that he is on a power trip because he does not work with students well and shows no mercy. He makes chemistry and the work/labs more difficult than necessary.

Here is what you need to know about this class. His handwriting is like deciphering hieroglyphics and he speaks fast, you will be learning about 6 weeks worth of material each day, and the tests are probably the hardest you'll ever take. Let me put it this way, if you do well in this class you will have no issue in Chem 1 & 2.

I took swieter for Intro chem a few years ago and I am now done with Orgo 1&2 at UF. It is only now I realize and appreciate how hard he was. He is hard, but if you do well in his class you will breeze through Chem 1 and beyond. You'll have a great understand of general chemistry with him. Take it from me, it's going to get way harder at UF anyway.

Don makes things harder than they have to be. He does not grade homework or give extra credit. He genuinely enjoys when students struggle and does not care if you pass. He pretentiously believes only he himself knows "proper" chemistry. I passed his course only because I taught myself with online resources and friends. DO NOT TAKE.

No curves. Teaches CHM 1 & CHM 2 material at intro level. Class curriculum doesn't all match up with departmental final topics. Doesn't like PHYSICISTS- it's all he talks about. Tests are hard & tricky. ALL tests are free response. No quizzes. Optional HW on his website. Doesn't use Canvas & doesn't use his email. BUT, deep down inside he is nice.

If you took him for intro & continued your chem career by taking Chem 1 & 2, you will realize why he was so tough. He was teaching ahead. However, he actually helped you by talking about Chem 1 & Chem 2 stuff at the intro level! When I got to Chem 1, the first exam was Intro Review & the following material was all covered with him. I was not lost!
