Best stats prof. Preps you the best. You are at an advantage compared to other sections. Very clear in lectures, and provides excellent notes for studying complete with solutions. Hard marker though, must be verrrrry accurate on tests.

He is an excellent professor. He knows what hes talking about. He marks hard though, but at the final you'll find that you know it all (if you study that is)

He is a very good teacher. He can teach very well and is very clear at explaining things. But his midterms are hard and challenging. You have to really know and understand your stuff. The test questions are alot harder then homework questions so be aware!

He explains the material very well, and always points at random people in the class and asks "are you with me?". Must be clear on tests, because he takes off marks for little details. Does not give part marks.

Tavares knows his stuff, since he has been teaching for almost 30 years now. Great guy, reviews everything and makes sure everyone is paying attention "You with me class?!" :) If you have him as your professor stick with him, don't switch.

Incredible Prof! "Are you with me class??", "Do I make myself crystal clear class??" "HEY CLASS, are you with me??" The midterm was hard and he doesn't give part marks, but the exam was fair and I came out alright. I went to every single class. Also... the text book is useless.

He is an excellent professor, his teaching style is very good and you always leave the class understanding the material. He makes a great effort to make sure all students understand and also prepares you well for exams.

He's a good teacher, if you listen in class then you'll understand most of the work. But you HAVE TO LISTEN. if you fall asleep.. you're doomed.. overall hes a good teacher. I'm getting an A in his class.

Very different format between tests and lectures. His goal is to fail as many people as possible. Your grade will not reflect what you know in the course.

Strict, but VERY HELPFUL..i learned a LOT in this course. definately my fav prof for 102/202. I had chua for 102 and she was ok but not good at lecturing..tavares was great..even at 8am !

very clear in his teaching, doesnt use the textook (thank god!!) and uses his own examples, he explains everything extensivley and tells u whats on his test and quizzes and the final....very fair prof. Have Tavaras for 102 and 202, hes a really good teacher, too bad im a bad student, he goes over the sample problems so well you think you know how to do the perfectly, just make sure you actually do and practice them at home. He is fair and you can get easy marks on quizzes and SPSS assignment.

Strict but incredibly clear. He takes a really hard course and makes it easy! Knows exactly what you're talking about. Don't give him attitude and he'll give you the tools to get a great mark. Don't skip class or you're done.

Hes a very good prof, definately knows what hes doing, stay updated with the work and hes always available for help, although be aware, he rarely answers clarification questions during the midterm and final, but he does set you up for success so that you can do well

I did very well in the course. We didn't use the textbook at all, because he gives photocopies of the questions and he goes through them one by one. The midterms/exam was very easy. I think he was being extra nice to us. I highly recommend this course to any math-loving people who want HIGH marks. Definitely worth taking to boost your GPA

Good prof. final exam screws you over, make sure you know the last chapters very well!! He's better than Smith!

Goes through a lot of examples. Final exam VERY HARD. One-answer questions screw u over. Final exam focuses heavily on last couple of chapters. Attend all classes and keep up with the material.

His way of teaching is good. Going to the lecture is not boring. Watch out for final exam it is based on last two chapters. Your mark will not reflect what you have learned because he is detail crazy and you lose a lot of marks for little things.

The man teaches to ensure you get it and if you don't speak up if you don't get it, it's on you cause the man is hella approachable and always asks you if you get it. He teaches like a grandfather teaching a child LOL!...I know sounds odd but it's true. Some may take him t o be abrasive, but I think it's because he's trying to get your attention.

AMAZING prof...very clear and understandable, teaches in a way that knowledge of the material comes easily. Ensures you understand the material before moving on to the next topic, so if you don't understand something, speak up. I would recommend to attend every lecture. hands down, best prof I had so far.

TAVARES...by far the BEST stats prof there is... BEST PROF AT RYEHIGH!! Truthfully, stats is a hard course but if you focus and do your work it'll be much more easier. Don't be afraid to ask questions because he wants everyone to understand the material completely. I went from a B- in QMS102 (w/clare chow) to a A+ with Tavares.

Probably is the best professor for QMS202. The course wasn't easy, but he made it easy! He just like a grandpa who is teaching a child. So sweet, and I love his accent too. When you heard he said: "Guys, are you following me?", the whole class need to answer "Yes!". I highly recommend him.

Best professor of my first year. Very easy to understand. His exams reflect what he teaches in class. Attend his lectures and do his handouts and you should easily get a B or higher.

The best prof I've ever had! Make sure you attend every class because he gives out helpful hints about what will be on his tests. This guy needs a freaking medal! No reason why you can't get an A+ in this course!

Good prof, can teach and WILL teach you stats. Don't clown around during his lectures, it's in your best interest to attend each one and actually pay attention. Asks "Do you get me class?!" a lot, and waits for an answer. A bit harsh on your brain if you're in his 8am class. Otherwise - you'll be fine.

He is very particular about detail, so make sure you don't make careless mistakes! You will get low marks if you don't pay attention to detail and take your time during tests! He definitely keeps you awake. Loud and clear voice. He knows how to control a noisy class effectively and he can be quite funny. I am very pleased with his teaching style.

Tavares is simply amazing. Funny guy. Very informative. Makes the course less complicated. Go to class. Do assignments. Avoid careless mistakes in exams (decimal points, etc). AND YOU'LL DEFINITELY GET AN A. He cares about students and its his goal for everyone to pass. I recommend him. He's AWESOME!

This prof is wonderful. TRY TO GET HIM! I used ratemyprof and switched into his class before the term, and Im glad I did. He makes things clear and answers all student questions. Going to class is a must but he makes it helpful. If you keep up youll do fine with him.

GREAT prof. Teaches the course very well and gives amazing practice questions that mirror those on the midterm and final exam. Doesnt use the textbook during lecture, which is nice because the book is a pain to carry around and hard to read.

I never seen a guy so passionate about anything. Very clear, and does lots of examples. lots of hand-outs, that are better than the text. An A is doable, just don't skip as the text is not helpful.

GREAT PROF! Try to get into his class if possible. Made everything really clear and explains concepts until everyone in the class understands. Barely used textbook because he was so clear. I just took really good notes and copied all examples. Not so bad quizzes, tests, exams, all multiple choice some of which are based on examples done in class.

Like everyone said, this guy is the best. He knows his stuff, don't try and ask why you got it wrong, since everything will be MC, 2 quiz, Midterm, and Final ALL MC, that being said. Business statistics is far much more easier than HS data, keep in mind he can be sassy but its funny. So sometimes he is unclear so he'll ask if your with him.

Absolutely great prof. Explains everything clearly. Ask him a question and he will make sure he answers till you get it. Very organized. Didn't get the mark I expected, but I actually understood what I was doing with all those calculations and numbers. I would definitely recommend him.

Amazing proff. I hate statistics and yet this was the only class I went to every single week and paid attention for the full 3 hours. He keeps the most boring subject interesting and keeps the class engaged allll the time. Honestly, he gives the best booklets and sheets so I regret spending money on the confussing textbook lol:)

This professor is great. His in class teaching is perfect. He goes over examples slowly and clearly so you understand them well. At times you may get confused but he makes sure you understand, so ask questions if you don't get it. His tests are quite fair, although his first quiz was on the tough side. But definitely worth taking, excellent.

Best teacher for the statistic department. Very helpful and engaging in class. He is an awkward old man but I love him! He does not use a textbook or any PowerPoint notes. Key to succeed is to show up and listen in class. Easy quizzes, midterms and exam.

Amazing professor. Had stats 2 with him and he provided hand outs that made the material very clear. We rarely ever used the text book.
