You must work hard to earn a good grade in his class. Do the Brief Exercise because unless he has the answer to the Problems he won't know how to do them. Must study all chapters-take another professor
not at all a good prfessor. His exams are nothing related to the lectures. Avoid him if u can!
Poor teaching skills
Very good communications skills, clear explanations. Provides answer keys for textbook problems, sample exams. Very well organized in class and on the blackboard. Makes work hard, always available during office ours. Excellent Prof. Recommend you want to
The worst Prof. alive!! Teach so fast, don't even care if you don't understand, no curve eventho the class average's low, almost never reply ur emails, and very ignorance!! DON'T U EVER TAKE HIS CLASS, unless if u want to fail the class.
very good prof, if you need to take acc 3000 take him its a hard course, but he makes it as simple as its gonna get, does alot of problems, just study the problems he does in class and you will be okay for the exam, trust me
He's good looking, except his hight. His tests are short, but hard and tricky. He's a quick responser for emails of questions, but he has no mercy on poor performed students, ie. not helping failing students pass the tests.
If you want to know accounting, take him! If you want an easy A look somewhere else.
He is a very good professor. He explains really well, often with real life examples and does a lot of problems. Read the text, do the HW and you'll be fine. For those who want really easy A or B, he is not a choce - you have to work.
He is not bad at all, but you need to work in his class, final was based on Hw problems, just do te home work
Very good prof. Explains well, clear, fluent and interesting. You do have to do all the homework problems to succeed. I learnt alot and enjoyed his lectures.
his exam seems too easy to pass. if u pay a litte, just a little, attaintion on his lecture. u can figure how nice and well-organized about his lecture. one more point, he had no mercy on poor performance student.
He's so boring. His exams aren't that hard if you do ALL of the work and study.
As good as it gets. Wish were more profs like him. Excellent Prof.
the problem of this professor was he hardly gave explanation on homeworks but gave test from them(with more twisted questions) He is not sympathetic to students. If you want to fail and waste your time and money. take his course
He is one of the great accounting professors. His tests are not hard if you do the hw he assigns. he is not boring like other accoutning professors. If you want to learn, take him. I like him as a professor. I would take him again if I have a chance
eventhough he tells beginnig of the semester that if we do all assigned hw,we will be fine on the test, but the exam he makes,is hard. he forgot what did he say at beginning of the semester.also the review that he gave before the exam, is not help students because he doesn't follow the review.
you better think twice before taking this professor. he reads from the power point slides the whole lecture and then gives the sample test which doesn't relate to the actual test at all. if he says that something won't be on the test that means it definetely will be there. so good luck !
One of the BEST professors in accounting. He's not easy, but you'll learn alot (which i think is more important). Just do all the readings and hw problems. Not an easy A. Have to work for a good grade, but you'll definitly learn more than form other professors
He's a good professor, he knows what hes talking about. Just make sure u do all the homework if you want an A in the class. He teaches from powerpoints, and gives u old tests as samples.Hes not easy, but if u do ur homework and study u can get an A because his tests are straight forward.
He's a pretty good professor and knows what he's talking about, but if you don't sit there for hours and hours doing all of the homework, you'll be lucky to pull off a B in his class.
Very nice guy. He trys his best to teach the materials. 3 exams, 1 project. He takes a pic of you at the beginning of semester - would know your name eventually.
Well organizer & helpful.
don't take his class please. exams he gaves us is very hard and confused. you have to be a master in accounting to do the problem during the exam.
He is nice prof. But He usually completes a chapter in less than 2 classes so be prepared to work. Teaches well. Not an easy A, but U will learn a lot. Exams are straight forward.
Really nice guy. Read the chapter before class and you will be fine. Don't study from his sample exam---the actual exam will be a totally different format. DO THE HW!
Out of all the professors for ACC 3000, he's the best. Really sweet.
He is a very good professor. Although I am not good at accounting , I don't have any complaint toward his way of teaching.Beware, his practice test sheet before exam is totally different his two midterms. study hard and get a good grade.
Very clear makes the class more interesting
Lots of work.
After completing my accounting major at Baruch, I realized how lucky I was to have this professor. He is one of the few who can explain, and cares about students. He's always availiabe for extra help and takes time out of class to tell us about the REAL WORLD of accounting; things about the CPA exam and etc... Highly recomended. (not an easy A)
I want to know what kind of idiot gave him a red HOT chili pepper. He's nice and very shy. But that's not the REAL problem. He is SO TRICKY with his exams. He would tell you that something would definitely be on the exam as the BIG point question and it won't even be there. But what he said NOT to worry about is exactly what would be on the Exam.
One of the best accounting professors in the world. Explains really well and will make sure u'll learn a lot about the ACCOUNTING INDUSTRY. He is a research professor and will talk a lot about the current issues in the industry (which is very helpful when interviewing with the BIG4). I had him a while ago, and im very glad i did. Not an easy A
The best Accounting professor at Baruch. I had him Fall 2004. Explains concepts with extreme clarity and precision. He cares deeply about his students and is very precise. His inside knowledge of the accounting profession is amazing. If you want to LEARN take him. However, it is VERY HARD to get an A in his class.
He thinks that he is the center of the world. Has tendency to move away from the lecture topic and starts to answer a question and talks around 40 minutes about something that noone is intrested except that person who has asked the question. Has favoriets. Punishes for lateness. Exams are not that hard; however, they are different from samples.
He is a very good, organized, and fair professor. His lecture is very interesting and helpful. Not an easy class, but definitely can teach. You can learn a lot from his class.Fair test, if you really listening in the class, take notes and do the problems, you should be fine.
He's a great professor. Very organized and whatever is discussed in class is posted on blackboard! you have to study though and know the material. He will explain something 100 times even if only 1 person doesnt understasnd. Very nice guy and I recommend.
He's actually much easier then people think. The only reason I didn't do well is because I didn't study properly. If you do the homework and understand it, you will do fine. Just memorize some stuff and make sure you know how to do JE.
he goes a bit too fast sometimes but he will go over concepts with you if you ask. and cram hard for the midterms. they are very tricky.
I think he is one of the good accounting professors. Explained everything well. He gives sample exams so pay attention to those! The work wasn't overwhelming, but it keeps you busy. I would take him again if he were teaching other courses.
WOW!!! OMG this professor is terrible. He goes by the material really fast, the practice exams are nothing like the real exams, and he's a harsh grader. Plus, he gives you like 2 grades less than what you deserved. I had a B+ average throughout the course and ended up witha C+. I'm telling you, your better off with anybody else because he's horrible
Byard is the best professor I have had in this school. I wish all were like him. He is hardworking, very well organized , very clear and extremely helpful. I still remember everything he thought me. I highly recommend him.
The BEST professor out there. He will really really teach u accounting and the contemporary issues in the industry. not an easy A...but then again which accounting class is????
Very hard professor. Real exams are much harder than the practice exams given before the test. The practice is a piece of cake compared to the real exams which are tricky. All I have to say is study very hard because he does not curve the exams at all.
To all of those that had nothing good to say you are all full of it and its probably because ya'll didnt study and did bad on his tests. He's an easy professor. Do the HW and his practice exam, which is a good hint. No tricks on the exam. The final was not hard at all. He is very helpful and will answer any questions related to Acct or the career.
All I can say: HE IS THE BEST! Very clear, organized, easy to understand. Take him, but don't forget to study! Not an easy A.
He is truly a wonderful professor. He is very clear, organized and he explains everything very well. Accounting is not easy and you have to study but he grades very fairly.
Definitely have to read chapters and work problems more than once. His study guides are usually the opposite of what's actually on the exam. Does not take attendance, but attend all classes. You'll will need it! ;)
Accounting classes without a doubt are hard. He tries his best to make his students understand the problems. He goes over homework problems. Lectures and textbook weren't much of help. His tests are kind of hard, but he curves.
Nice prof, explains everything good enough. His test are hard and tricky though. Final is cumulative.
Lots of work
No normal distribution of grades in the class. When he says all material is "fair game" he means it. Either learn all & get A or none and get C. Nobody said acc is easy & most students dont study the req. 7hrs a week per acc class. Hes awesome. If ur hard worker, u will be rewarded. If u failed and are rating him badly, think about switching majors
very clear, well organized, very nice prof. 2 exams, 1final and 1 easy FARS case. highly recommend.
I loved his class. His lectures are so clear. You will definitely learn a lot with him. The fars case is a lot of research but it's worth it.
He's cool, but boring. Talks nothing but accounting all day long. Lots of stuff on blackboard. I didnt do so well in his class, but thats my fault. he is one of the best accounting teachers you will take. only negative is the multiple choice part on his exams. They are hard. word problems are the same as the homework with diff. numbers. take him.
The class is not easy but he is very straight forward, mostly asks from recent CPA exams, the exams are hard, but gives online hw to help to boost yr grade, no attendance is taken but COME TO CLASS! ppl droped the course, not because of him but their acc base was not enough to pass on this course. Best acc PROF! Take him,you will learn a lot!
Probably the best professor that Baruch has to offer. Very clear lectures. Only downside that with his clear explanations he expects more from you. Compare to all other ACC 3000 class his tests are more condensed and slightly longer. Nevertheless, an accounting major will apperciate it.
This professor clearly is a professional in his field. Tests are hard but if you study hard and at the same time understand the material you can get an A. Grades fairly on the long problems and gives partial credit. In this class its better to read and at least try the problems before coming to class so it will be easier to understand the material.
I did not like his class. He either was talking too fast so one could not understand anything or he could just assume that people've already known everything and easily skip big chunks of material. The final he gave us was very hard and twisted. Would not recommend him.
Material is very hard. Don't forget that C+ is the passing grade. Lectures are clear. Tests are hard.
Horrible Teacher. Everything is fair game on the exams even though he tells you it won't be. Tests are extremely hard and tricky. Sample tests and outlines he gives are not helpful. Study everything if you want to pass.
Tests are very hard and tricky. Teaching methods are unclear, plus he is really tough grader. I'd not recommend him.
He is one of the best accounting prof. at Baruch. He is very professional and also a dedicated teacher. This course is demanding and the exams are not easy but you will learn a lot. For accounting major students-strongly recommend him to take.
Professor is knowledgeable and professional. I agree he was either going too fast -over the slides- or assumed that class knows the subject from the acc2101. But he was also doing the problems in detail which was really helpful. It will help if you read the material before coming to class. No curve when class avg was 166.81pts or 55.6% on final.
Our class average for the final exam was about 50%-pretty clear, isn't it?
He's the best professor for Accounting. Lectures can not be clearer, fair grader. I got a B but was totally not his fault. Exam are very hard, but not only you'll learn a lot, but also you'll be very prepared for ACC 3100. He is always open to help anyone, always answers emails, his office is always open to students. Awesome professor.

He is a great professor. Make you do lot of work, but believe me if you are in accounting major, you might want to do lot of practice.
Think twice before entering into his class ?????????????????????
He is by far the best professor I've had anywhere. He is very professional and extremely knowledgeable. His class is quite challenging but it is known to be the most difficult in the Accountancy program. Requires a lot of studying but his course outline is very clear.
Pro Byard is one of the best professors I ever had in accounting. He's very clear and he's always there to help students. The mid-term was not very hard but final was a little tricky. If you do read the book and do all the hw twice, you should be able to get a decent grade. I got an A.
the exam he gives in class is very complicated which means totally different from what he teaches in class.
One of the best accounting professors. I suggest everyone to take his class.
This class is a ton of work, but Donal is an excellent professor. He's organized, fair, realist, and has a sense of humor that really helps keep this almost 20-hour-long class interesting. The only time my interest fades is when Donal starts doing problems from the book - I'd rather do them on my own.
He's a great professor, one of the best I've had ever. He is very enthusiastic and cares a lot about accounting, which makes YOU care about accounting. He does a lot of IFRS too, which is very interesting. A real pleasure to come to class which is unusual. Highly recommend.
Overall a good class. His teaching is quite good.Beware though that exams are being graded by his assistants who chuck off points blindly, and he simply doesn't bother to recheck or correct what they did.He will not admit that something was graded wrong even knowing that's the case, He simply doesn't care.
Great prof, horrible class. He tries hard to explain everything, but there's no way for him to cover all the material in class. I sometimes wondered if it'd be better to skip the class to read the book. He takes time to answer questions and though his tests are VERY tough, he's a forgiving grader. Be warned, though, this class is a monster
This is the course that will make or break your accounting career. An immense amount of material! Very helpful professor though. He really really REALLY tries hard to help you pass. Keep up with the reading before getting to class. He is extremely generous with his time before & after class & office hours.
His exams are too hard and he likes to use problems not covered in the class. He just looks friendly, but he is not. He wants you to suffer and cry. His dirty trick is to let you drop midterm and count final twice. He does this only to prevent students from dropping the class after midterm.
I agree. In the first 5 weeks we had to read 658 pages (13 chapters), do 126 homework, a case study and write a research paper. It is almost 20 pages and 4 questions per day. Plus you need to study his lecture notes, and many students record him because he speaks too fast. So you need to study at least 4 hours every day to do well. Crazy.
He hides behind the lectern and reads the problem solutions. All CPA professors use mnemonics, trying to make it simple, but not him. He never passed CPA! He does not know how to learn acc. himself, so he can't teach students. He picks the hardest concepts from each chapter for exams.U need to master 250 HW problems to do good on final. AVOID!!!!!
I like a good beer but that doesn't mean I wanna drink a keg of it. Same goes for accounting. Most programs divide this into two courses, but not Baruch. Baruch sadistically makes this one course. They might as well just make a BA in accounting a prereq. Take this course at a community college, you'll probably learn more and, you'll have a life.
Professor is very motivated, fast paced, and cheerful. He explains everything to the best of his ability and is very helpful at further explaining anything that was unclear. Quizzes and Exams are pretty much straightforward from each lesson and homework problem done. You do require 200% dedication to this course. Best professor out there.
2 cases & 2 quizzes=35%; Mt=250, final=350; if final is better than mt, Mt is dropped. He covers the whole book and it is impossible to learn everything. No hints what will be on exam, moreover he will make u to study the hardest topics that were not asked on exam. He should stop teaching asap or shortage of accountants will be even bigger.
This course is the "weed-out" course for the graduate students and Professor Byard does a great job of being a gatekeeper. There is just simply too much cheating in the large accounting classes at Baruch. Professor Byard prepares at least 2 versions of midterm, 2 quiz, and final so the lazy students who never come to class and don't do the problm
Best professor I've had at baruch. He explains the concepts clearly and is responsive to questions. Quizzes are hard because it's just 1 question from 10+ chapters. However I feel he is dedicated, he did optional review sessions at the beginning and end of course on the weekend, no other professor I've had has gone out of their way to do this.
Professor Byard is the best professor in the accounting department. He is crystal clear in his explanation of difficult concepts. He solves a lot of problems in class. He also does an optional Sunday review session at the beginning of the semester and right before the final.
This is one easy class if u can predict what will be on exams and quizzes, and to make a good prediction u should go to class. Final was made of only 5 long problems, not too hard, so if u do poor on midterm, final cancels the midterm grade. First part is fast paced so u need to start to do HWs from the day one or u will be lost.
I have read a lot of the reviews on Prof Byard and I just wanted to say that this is a very tough class but it is not his fault. I got a B in the class and I think he is a great professor. If you want to blame someone, blame Baruch for making this 1 class, while everywhere else it is 2. I feel at a disadvantage bc I don't know the topics as well
9804 is infamously known as the most intense course because it covers 18 chapters. Byard is the best man out there for navigating students through this treacherous journey-DO NOT SETTLE FOR LESS. Teaches with his whole heart and cares about students, unlike some burnouts at baruch. Studied my brains out, asked q's, got A-. Prepare for hard labor.
He speaks so fast that often times nothing makes sense or hard to comprehend. The final was a killer as it tested 95% on one single topic, many questions were nothing like what was covered in class. He said it's cumulative, but it was really one topic only, and nothing on pensions or taxes. Very disappointed. Has favorites.
very tough course since it is basically two courses in 1; isn't helped by class size and professor's inability to teach it well; good attitude, though
He is good at teaching interme Acc and making hard staff easy to understand. But his final is terrible. His two qizzes are easy. Middle term is ok. Until now, he is the best prof to teach Acc9804!
I just love this professor. He is very enthusiastic and helpful. He teaches from an academic/research angle which is refreshing in business school. He also participates in a lot of on-campus panels and knows a ton about current issues in accounting. He's great! If you can write well, you should be ok in this class.
Even though it was his first time teaching this class it is no excuse for how sloppy it was taught. There was no set syllabus and we did not know what projects and finals were worth until the last month of class. The speakers were the best part of the class and taught much better than he did. Avoid his section if you want to maintain your gpa.
He is a very enthusiastic professor with a great sense of humor. He worked at SEC in 2008, so he has a lot of real world examples. Although his class is tough, you can learn a lot from him. He certainly will help you develop comprehensive understanding of accounting.
There's only so much a professor can do when theres's this much material to cover, but Prof. Byard does an excellent job of getting through the material. He knows accounting inside and out, can explain it in layman's terms, and knows when to give real world examples to clarify concepts and to point out how silly and arbitrary some of the stuff is.
He's a good teacher. The exams are good because they're not mindless multiple-choice questions, and he's generous with partial-credit grading on midterms. But he misguided us on what to study for the final, which screwed me over.
Material can be challenging but Prof explains it very well in lecture. You must read the chapter and he is very lenient on partial points for midterms. Would take this professor again but he doesn't teach any other undergrad courses.
This professor does a great job explaining the concepts in a way it is easy to understand. Given the class structure I recommend reading the first 5 chapters by day one. Also do the homeworks because the first half will go fast. Quizzes and midterms are straight from homework final is more complex. Expect to work hard for a good grade. he curves!
On the final he tested at the level that differed greatly from the level he was teaching at. It was unnecessarily complicated and not based on the homework. Advice #1: Go through the first 5 chapters before the first class. Advice #2: Study the topics he promises NOT to cover on the final...
Would not take again.
Would not take him again. What he tells you that is going to be on the exam might not be on the exam. He is a lenient grader but he is lenient with everyone in the class so in the end it doesn't really matter. I did pretty well on the midterms but was screwed over by the final.
He is very good
he is very good professor. His exam is reasonable and he doesn't give very hard exam. if you study the material, you should be fine. some people complained he is not good, but before that think you really study or not.
Great Professor. Tests are pretty easy if you study homework and other practice problems. He was very helpful and funny too. I would definitely take again.
Donal is a solid professor. He assigns 3 one-page papers that you are to complete in groups of two - somewhat awkward process. He teaches interesting material and basically built the curriculum himself. He is a thought leader and teaches some of his own papers. Grading is okay but sometimes hard to follow. Final group project is not bad. Recommend.
Pretty decent professor. The only problem with his class is that he grossly inflates the midterm grades to an extent where only 5-10% of the class will drop while the majority will think they're doing superb. Surprisingly, he's a strict grader on the final and will drop the midterm if you do better on it. I worked my rear-end of and got a B.
so the class of this professor is boring. But do the homework, go through the notes before any exams or quizzes, you can get a good grade.
Exams are not that hard as long as you practice the problems Professor Byard went through the class, but remember, he always surprised you so please study more detailed. Final is the most important part since he doesn't care about the midterm and quizzes. Not much homework and they are pretty easy. Overall, not a bad choice for 3100.
Ton of work. Make you work more then other profs
Insane amount of work
He's an easy grader on the midterm but study MORE for the final since the midterm doesnt count as much in the end and he likes to surprise you. Overall, not a bad choice. I got a B because of his final :(
He's very fair and decent until the final. You will feel comfortable with the material until the final exam is in front of you. It is such a wild and unpredictable surprise that if you're borderline passing/failing by the midterm just drop the course. I would say that 80% of the final exam is stuff that he NEVER talked about in class. Stay away.
Really knows his stuff, solid teacher, put in the effort and you will get the grade you want.
Although it wasn't mandatory, ended up having to read the book a ton for this class, and this is the only reason I did okay. Prof Byard is extremely proficient in the subject, but his exams are a lot more in- depth than the practice and lecturing he does with the class. His exams are mostly long answer, not MC. Final was very hard, so study a lot!
The Class itself is very challenging so in order to do well PRACTICE A LOT of the Ps and Es at the end of the chapter, do the homework and read beforehand to better understand.
Remember to practice Problems and Exercises more before exams, they are pretty helpful. Exams and quizzes are similar to Ps and Es, and are not hard. Quizzes are quite easy, two quizzes each have one question. Exams are four questions requiring writing journal entries.
He is the best!!! The material itself is very tough, however, he breaks it down to its simplest form. Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Exams are short problems, all journal entries, NO MPC. You really need to study for his exams, they are NOT easy, but not that hard if you do suggested problems in the end of the book.
Professor Byard was a great Professor. However, you do need to work for your grade. Accounting at Baruch is not meant to be easy. The only reason I did well in his class is because I made sure I understood how to do all the Exercises and Practices that are suggested for you to do. If you do those questions, the tests are not that bad.
Got an 80% on the first test which was in the A range. Got a 65 on the final class average was around a 67. Got a C final grade. My only issue was that the final was cumulative and it was way too much material to remember. So in my opinion Financial accounting two isn't bad over all but find a professor that doesn't have cumulative final. IMO.
Hi is a terrible Professor in my life, what he teach isnt related to exam, if you take him you gonna suffer and he is very harsh grader
He is not good at teaching a heavy materials in this course. His lecture and exam is quite different. I don't know how appropriate is this to hear professor. Don't take him u won't pass
He is the most unprofessional faculty in the whole accounting dept. He doesn't know what he teaches. He pretends to care for his students but he doesn't. Taking him meaning u putting urself in a BIG TROUBLE. His materials are not helpful, going to class is waste of time. PLEASE DON'T take him.
THE WORST professor I've ever had. Final is cumulative. Prepare to self-study and read a lot. He is lazy, full of himself and technologically illiterate. He has ego issues; he brings students down to feel better about himself. The midterm & make up exams contained mistakes and typos, he did not drop the questions, but counted them towards the grade
Professor Byard teaches a new chapter for the first class of the week and works on problems on the second class of the week. My ACC3200 Professor doesn't work on problems and expects you to know them. You can email professor Byard and he will help. A couple of bad reviews come from A students. Is that their ego to write bad reviews. Byard is nice.
