He makes his tests based on his lechtures so go to class and don't even bother buying the book. First test is really hard, the last 2 aren't that bad. Just take good notes and go to class and you'll be fine.
A so so teacher. I don't question this man's knowledge of economics, just the method he uses to get it across. Not bad, but not the best lecturer. I do comend him - highly - for holding review sessions for exams, a chance to ask about anything you may be unclear on!
This professor goes out of his way to make sure everyone understands the material.
I would highly suggest taking him if you don't like Econ such as myself. He is very helpful and has review sessions before tests. Everything he does is straight from the notes, don't bother with the text. Would definately take again.
don't buy the book really his test questions are exactly from the notes so attend class. He put all the theories into little stories which engraves the knowledge in my brain. It also help if you try to repeat some of the stories to someone or yourself.
The Best Lecturer in Mason
Boudreaux is a great prof. I had him once a week for a 3 hour class, and I was never bored, his tests are his lecture notes, i did not even open the book once he is very passionate and loves what he does, I would highly recommend him.
Good Class good professor. Make sure you go to class or at least got to study sessions
Excellent Prof. Actually one of the best I've ever come across. His examples are so interesting that you always wanna be in the class. You can actually understand Econ from his examples. I look at the world in a totally different way now. He is definately the best.
Entertaining, interesting, insightful. Class will be easy if you attend, pay attention, and take notes. The man is friendly, humorous, and has an interesting blog at cafehayek.com if you care to look.
Very entertaining teacher. You can sit there for three hours and not get bored. Great speaker. Made me take a serious interest in majoring in Econ. Tests are off his lecture dont buy books. Some of his questions on the tests are confusing and can be hard. Thats my only real critque, I learned the material at an A+ level but got a B- in his class.
So many good things to say about him. Definitely my favorite professor at Mason. Class is preatty easy and straight forward. His tests are off his lecture notes so don't bother buying the book. Very helpful before with exam questions and if you go to his office. YOU WILL NO REGRET taking this professor.
Great lecturer, tests are straight from the notes, no need to buy the book unless you are really interested in the subject.
He is a GREAT teacher! Even if you don't like the subject he makes you interested. He really loves what he does and keeps you awake. :) His tests were hard because its not just spitting out terms but application. But if you study and take your time on the tests then you'll be fine. I did really bad on the first test but still got a B.
I never purchased the book for this class. All exams are derived from the lectures. A tape recorder would be more useful than the book. Prof. Boudreaux has a passion for econ that brings clarity and interest to every lecture. I'd strongly recommend this teacher.
The greatest professor you will have in your college career. His lectures are great. you dont need to buy the book.BOOK IS OF NO USE. make sure you take good notes.
The best teacher ever. His classes are not boaring at all. Although he barely uses any texbooks, by the end of the senester you know all you need to know about economics. I use that information in my everyday life. Highly recommend him.
Awsome Prof! Good Lectures! Make sure to take good notes and attend every class. Textbook are no use.
Even though I took a 3 hour class I never missed his class and still had fun. He makes the subject easy to understand. If you take good notes and study hard you'll do fine. I recommend him. Don't need to buy the book. (Don't take Rustici)
One of the best professors you will ever have in your entire college career. One of the very few 3 hour classes with almost 100 % attendance. Very clear and very helpfull. YOU DO NOT NEED THE BOOK. A voice recorder will be more helpful than the book. Make sure you take good notes and you will be on your way to an A in the class.
Great professor. He is very interesting and his lectures maintain their momentum throughout the entire 3 hour class. He provided multiple test review sections for both the midterm exams and final exam. One of my favorite Profs!
By far the best professor I've had so far in my college career. As an economics major, I found his lectures to be very provoking and interesting. He tests entirely on his lectures, and his intellect and sense of humor made the three hours pass quickly. His style of economic thought is the reason I am an ECON major.
Great teacher. Really gets engages you in the lectures. Probably one of the best lecturers on campus. Make sure to take a lot of notes or tape record the lectures. Go the the review sessions and be prepared to ask questions.
Excellent, Funny, Interesting!
Best professor ever. Keeps class very interesting and gives great curves on all 3 tests.
Professor is funny but I do not recommend him, he rambles on about his life stories & never teaches concepts & when he does teach, it takes an hour to teach a simple concept. u won't learn much from him. He throws jokes out about wine & some other bs to make the class go by fast. He wings his lectures & tests are very hard- u have to know econ2 pas
Great profess. The tests are hard, but aside from that, I really liked this class. He makes jokes in class, and keeps lectures interesting. Make sure you take good notes because he does not use the textbook.
Come to class- he doesn't use the textbook but he is very thorough in class. He holds at least one review session before tests. His class material is MUCH different from what my friends in other 103 classes were taking- hardly any math. Two tests (5 and 2 point curves) and a final.
I agree with the previous poster below. He as a person is light-hearted, funny & cool, and tries to get the message out there. Bottom line, Boudreaux is a really nice teacher. As far as the material goes, good luck! . The lecture cover some of the material on the test. I'm usually an A student but I got a C in this class. It is not easy, so study!
Prof is aweseome! I had him for a night class so I was expecting to fall alseep but I was kept wide awake and laughing becuase boudreaux cracked jokes and kept his students attention. Made topics interesting and fun! TOTALLY RECOMEND
this guy is sexy.....but on another note....his class is the only 7pm class worth taking. He's awesome and keeps the class interesting and makes it seems short even if it is 3 hours. Nice guy and he keeps the subject fresh. Id recommend him to anybody. U dont need the book trust me. return it if u bought it NOW
Nice guy. Curves on tests. Two tests and one final. Interesting examples and stories for topics. NEED: take good notes, preferably a laptop so you can write just about all the details; study massively for the tests unless you have mad good memory on EXACTLY what he said; NO BOOK NEEDED. Do what I say, you'll get an A.
Highly entertaining! All exams & final were curved. Don't buy the book... just take crazy good notes! You have to be able to figure out the point of what he's telling you, not just listen. Highlight of the semester: prior to the final (bc most ppl don't go) he said, "please don't be alarmed next week, there will be a lot of strangers in the room!!"
he is the worst teacher you will ever take
The best teacher I've ever taken!!! The tests are not so difficult if u have a good note and study. I got A on this class!!!! His class is at night and for 3 hours, but I'd never missed class and always had fun!! I'm sure u won't feel sleepy on his class. recommend!!!!

He made me love Economic. This guy is a work of art. Extremely funny, cool sharp dude. Do attend all classes, take detailed good note. You can only take the final and get an A. DO NOT TRY THT. Take the other tests, you'll do fine that way. Not defintion, understand concept and apply it. Review sessions are a must before each test. B+ for me
Very nice and funny professor! He also curved all the exams!!Attend classes and take good notes..you need that!!
He is amazing! I failed economics once before I took this class and passed it with a B+ this time around! He is awesome and I totally recommend him! Take good notes and attend classes/review sessions and you will do great!
Professor Boudreaux is a great teacher. He gives a real world example for just about every teaching point, so it's very easy to understand the concepts. I came out of this class with an A+ and a very good understanding of microeconomics. Take this teacher!
He is funny and a great lecturer. He gives great examples and all of the test questions are from his lectures. You have to write the whole class but its worth it when you are studying for the exams. Excellent professor!!
Ok-If you want to learn about ECON take this professor...he's great...if you just want a passing grade so you can move on with your life DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY. Test are hard, and you HAVE to go to class to even have a hope of passing...Again, if you have some strange desire to lean about Econ, take this guy...if not..find another section.
Great professor!! If you're interested in actually learning something in this class, take him. His tests are pretty difficult, but if you go to class and take notes, you'll do well. Funny guy. I was actually able to stay awake for 3 hours at 7PM. Highly recommend him.
He is the best prof you will ever have. He is crystal clear in his presentation, curves the tests, and is extremely funny during lectures. You don't need a book, but you do need to go to class. Do this, and you'll be fine. Additionally, even if your straight guy you might just develop a huge man crush through the course of the semester.
AMAZING teacher. I was so worried to take economics but if you have this teacher, everything will be clear. It sucks because he teaches from 7-10 at night but it's worth it. He is hiliarious and always relates hard econ terms to real life situations. GREAT TEACHER! TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
He is really good at giving examples and makes the lecture enjoyable. You must attend class though, a lot of the test material in not in the book.
Do not agree with what others are saying on here...he is confusing and he confuses himself when he's talking. He tells the same jokes over and over again...he is not helpful when you talk to him in person. His tests are suoer confusing. I wouldn't reccommend him to anyone.
Very interesting class but like others have said, you must attend lecture. I took him for a 100 level class and it was fairly challenging for a 100 level but worth it. Just attend class.
His lectures are amazing, I hate econ, but I loved his lectures, his exam questions are confusing though, so I SUGGEST GO TO HIS STUDY SESSIONS, if you can, make it to both study sessions, they are helpful, you do not need the book, so I suggest you take GOOD NOTES!!! you are going to have alot of fun in his class!
He is a very confusing teacher. He never uses the textbook so if you're a type that learns best straight from lecture, go for it. His exam questions are very tricky and difficult. Always uses wine as examples. He is just a difficult professor to learn economics from. I do not recommend.
I don't know what people meant ealier on by "confusing." The guy is VERY clear. On his tests, it's virtually all from lectures. The tests are tough for some people because they (suprise suprise) require thought. FYI, read two chapters a week to finish the textbook, because it didn't say in the syllabus (not huge; I got an A+ without finishing it).
I failed this course the first time i took and went to class more and took alot of notes and got a b+. overall good teacher ..kinda funny sometimes... go to class
Great Teacher. Highly recommended! Fair, and very very clear. I wish he taught macro as well as micro. If I could, I'd sign up for all of his classes just to hear his stories and opinions and how they relate to Econ.
He is a great teacher and helps out very much, if you have some comments or questions he is the one who is there to not just listen to you, but also supports it (if you are right). Learned a lot from him and he is a great teacher!!!
he is really a nice teacher!
BEST PROFESSOR YET! Got me interested enough to pursue a major in economics. His lectures are hilarious, extremely helpful, and useful. I've never been so interested in a lecture ever--I actually looked forward to his class each week. You don't have to read anything if you simply go to class. And if you don't go to class, you'll likely fail...
very nice prfessor, easy going.
He is the Dean of the Department of Economics so be ready for a good lesson in economics
Professor Boudreaux is a really nice guy. He is funny and makes the topics fun for us. You don't need to read or buy the book because he doesn't use it. It's all from his lectures, so if you miss a class you miss A LOT. No papers, just 3 exams. He is a good guy and the class is good, I just have no interest in the topic. Still, I have like a B+.
Great Professor, but the exams are not so straight forward. Notes are very essential, in terms to get a better grade in this class.
Great teacher...highly recommended!
Prof Bx lives what he lectures! He brings economics to life and makes it completely enjoyable. This stuff is fascinating! He tests entirely from his lectures, so don't bother going to class if you're not ready to listen and take notes! Leave your solitaire and cell phone at home!! This guy will make you want to change your major!
It is not mandatory that you attend class; however, if you want to get a good grade you you have to attend class. I say that because the tests come from his lecture. He is a wonderful professor. He really wants his students to do well in his class. He will drop one test grade. If you need to take econ and dont know who to take...take it with him!!!
He is such an amazing professor.I am not really good at just listening to someone speak while I take notes but he is the best.He makes sure you understand. He slowly & repeats info just to make sure you got it all down.If you have to take an Econ class take it with him & you will do great. He even drops the lowest test grade. highly recommended!!!!!
Taking notes is the key to this course. Most questions of the final exam came from previous exams.
Great teacher. hes funny and interesting. Go to class because that basically where you will get all the information for the tests. The book isnt that mandatory. The exams are easy. easy b or above.
I wish he taught more ECON classes! He is entertaining and helpful with his Q&A sessions before exams. I want to say this only.. DON'T BUY THE TEXTBOOK!, it is not necessary to get a good grade in this class! All the exams are based on the lecture. Take good notes, understand it all, think and you're set for an A! Most enjoyable prof. so far!
He's a very intelligent guy and is often on TV debating Lou Dobbs and other news commentators. Unfortunately, his tests are quite difficult. He only gives 3 exams. For my class he let you drop the first one. He curves slightly, which usually compensates for his hard exams. All in all, he's a great teacher. Make sure you go to the review sessions.
He is a good professor. You only need to go to the classroom and take notes. No book is required. Easy to get an A. It is a lot of fun in this class. He is fantastic.
Amazing professor! Somehow, the class is an easy A and you still learn a great deal. He's very interesting and engaging. Three tests based solely off of the notes, no other grades. DON'T BUY THE TEXTBOOK!
Awesome professor. My favorite during my time at Mason. I failed the class with Bennett the semester before, took Boudreaux the next semester and got an easy A. Take him if you have the chance.
This is a quality teacher. His lectures are informative and very entertaining.. explains the material very well. Is easily available for help even in a class of 150+. Great personality and knows how to explain material so students remember it! Tests are very reasonable.
BEST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD. not only does he make it possible to do very well, but he teaches you as well...and its not boring either, he actually makes the subject fun. the class slot is long because of the three hours, but he makes it fly by. DO NOT NEED TEXTBOOK, all info comes from class. tests are very fair. BEST TEACHER AT GMU BY FAR.
Great teacher take him.
Wonderful teacher, very entertaining, passionate about economics, and simply a fascinating person. I really enjoyed his class...and yes, he's hot!
Was a wonderful, great and helpful teacher! Loved his Econ 103 class. I recommend him highly!!!!
He's ok, but spends the lecture just talking, so it's really hard to pay attention. He should have used visuals. Syllabus was terrible; keeps changing test dates, and doesn't contain the lesson plan to prepare us. Tests are easy if you really understand the lectures. Don't listen to myths that you don't need the book; it may or may not help you.
Horrible professor. Don't read previous ratings on him. Exams are not easy at all. Does not use the book. Lectures are boring. He does not curve much.
Economics is NOT a discipline that can be learned passively. This prof expects you to absorb everything aurally, without any practice problems or visual aids to solidify the concepts. Entire grade is based on 3 very short exams so there is no room for error. Book did not seem to help. Avoid if you learn by engagement!
honestly who bases the entire grade on just 3 exams!! Really harsh, final is worth 40% of the grade and the rest 2 exams are 30% each.Exams are difficult and based entirely on his words, never used the textbook. . He is an "easy" going professor but the other ratings are misleading because I took him based on them and I regret it.no organization!!
Attendance not mandatory, but if you don't go you're screwed because the exams are entirely based on his lectures!entire grade is based on 2 exams and 1 final.Never used the book, his lectures are supposed to cover everything on the exams but they don't entirely! I regret taking him based on other ratings! It was tough :/
You turn on the TV and you see Professor Boudreaux debating Economics with US Senators. The guy is awesome! Knows a lot! Easy tests! If you go to Mason and you don't take Boudreaux, you've missed the Mason experiance! Enough said!
Boudreaux is an amazing professor. He is truly passionate about economics and tries to instill the same passion in his students. Definitely take his course if you have the chance!
One of the first things the prof said in class was "Economics is common sense." True for some people. Econ is a hybrid subjective/quantitative discipline, and I have the feeling that the people giving GLOWING reviews happen to have the right subjective mindset for econ. If you don't have the right flavor of "common sense," this class is not easy!
Probably the best teacher I've ever had. Tons of analogies and great stories to teach you. Tests are very fair. If you go to class, you'll do well. No text book required, and you get to keep the first tests to study from.
One of the best instructors at Mason. He is very funny, down-to-earth, and intellegent. He tries to make economics relatable and that's a good things. Doesn't hurt that he is a handsome gentleman.
Best professor ever!
Boudreaux is by far one of the best professors at Mason. His passion for economics is so apparent you cant help but admire that! He is so straightforward with his teaching there is no excuse to do badly. I would highly recommend his class but if you want to do well dont skip because his exams are based only on what he discusses in class.
Great teacher, really pushed my interest in economics. He is very smart and cares about students. Three tests, including final, all multiple choice.
I guess it depends on the person, but I never found his lectures to be boring and enjoyed them. I never bought the text book and it is completely unneeded. All he tests on are his lectures, so attendance and good not taking skills are a must. Tests (multiple choice) are not difficult at all and he also does some curving. Great Professor.
Probably the best professor I have had so far at mason. Makes the subject interesting and the class is not difficult IF you go to class. Anyone who has a hard time simply doesn't go to the lectures. He does NOT use the book (don't even buy it) and curves on his 3 tests (ones a final). Makes the subject interesting and cracks jokes, great professor!
Great Professor, super easy. Went to every class and paid attention then didn't study for the final and still got an A+. He curved the first test 20 percent, then the second 12 percent. If you don't get an A in this class you didn't show up or didn't pay attention. So easy and fun to follow, he talks about wine and beer all the time.
Best professor I have ever had at Mason. Thanks to him I added economics as my second major. The class was a breeze and he made it fun to learn economics which can sometimes be a very bland subject. He's funny and can relate to the students well. He curves the exams and drops the lowest one.
Very fair grading, and really easy testing as long as you show up and pay attention. He's a funny guy and explains everything well. Concepts aren't hard to follow. This definitely a class worth taking.
Best professor I have had so far. His lectures are very good. Just take really good notes, you dont need to waste money buying the book. Because of him I changed my major to economics. If you have the option to take his class, take it!
Don't have to go to class if you find a good set of notes. Treats you like an adult and gives fairly easy tests.
He is amazing, fun, and extremely understanding. Knows his own book by heart. If you miss a class get notes and read the book. Be careful for the double negative questions on exams for the multiple choice.. Essay part is fun to write! Very respectful towards your opinion! Want to take him again!
Great personality, extremely knowledgeable. Was very fair with grading, kept his lectures so entertaining you didn't want to skip them. Very easy if you've taken Micro and Macro-Econ previously. Read his book, take notes, get an A while actually learning something!
class is mandatory. exam are hard- more tricky wording. the grading- only 3 test where each is worth a lot. no drop. curves sometimes depending on the average. lectures are entertaining. but i thought the exams were hard.
Very good professor, he's very helpful and tries to make a boring class fun. Econ is not a fun and easy class but he does the best he can to make it better. Take him.
All I can say is...he teaches like he speaks to Elementary school kids but when it comes to exams, he will test you as if you are a graduate student. Relied on others rating' but really this guy is hard. He is the only reason why my GPA is going down this semester :( I suggest. Learn ahead if you want to take him!
Super chill. Very chill easy A teacher. Tests are worded somewhat awkwardly but pretty easy and he curves them like crazy! His lectures are funny but Econ was too boring for me and I kept leaving early/skipping. I highly recommend him though.
He's an interesting lecturer and very funny. Sometimes he takes far too long reiterating a point and talking about one subject so class can be boring sometimes. He also injects his conservative/libertarian views into lectures a bit too often. Really recommend though.
Lots of energy and enthusiasm. 2 Tests and 1 Final, thats it! No attendence taken. Only way you will do good, attend lectures. If you miss, get notes from someone, he covers things not in the book so don't rely on the book heavily. Simple class. As long as you attend lectures you should get an A, at least a B+, B minimum. I really enjoyed him!
Funny and charismatic guy, easy to pay attention to. Everything on the exams is directly from his lectures, so make sure you take notes on everything. Textbook is absolutely unnecessary, trust me on this. 2 exams, and a final, and afaik, he has always curved by a couple of points on every exam. Not to mention the other econ profs are terrible.
Attended his class about 5 years ago and from reading the recent posts he has not changed a bit. He has published a couple of books on Economics, so yes he knows the material. Forget the text book. Attend the class and take notes. He will have an exam review, do not miss it. This will be a large stadium class, but I would not sit in the back.
Professor Boudreaux is in my opinion the best professor at GMU. His lectures are very interesting and make the material, which can be difficult to understand, seem simple and intuitive. He is the reason I decided to major in economics. His tests are difficult, but if you attend class and take notes you will be fine. Excellent professor.
Great Prof. New what he was talking about. Pay attention, you'll learn a lot. You dont need the book if you pay attention and take notes to lectures. Definitely go to review sessions before exams!
Do not buy the textbook. Just go to class and try and get your hands of his previous tests because its really similar to current tests. Microecon has one of the lowest pass rates at Mason so the class is hard. GO to every class
Dr. B knows econ and gives a clear explanation. That said, it is a hard to get a good grade in this class. He only gives THREE tests, period. No curve, no practice problems, no assignments. Other than that, good and interesting professor and class.
Terrible professor. Doesn't teach much at all, just talk about his life experience and stories. whenever need help after sending him 4 email finally after a week he respond you! hard grader and always he mentions that he is not in grade bussiness. I got "B" in class cause I read the book in my own. from 395 students just 248 pass with c and higher.
Very interesting professor. He kept my attention most of the time. He gives 2 exams and a final, all of which strictly come from his lectures. Go to every class, don't purchase the textbook because we didn't use it once, and go to the review sessions. One bad grade on an exam will drop you a lot. I recommend getting the study guide book.
Thought-provoking and interesting class. By far one of the best professors I have had at Mason. I changed my major to Economics after taking his class. Attend lectures, go to the study sessions, and take good notes. The final was cumulative.
Second time taking Econ 103, and I finally understood it after this class. He is an excellent professor and recommend him to anyone. The exams are easy too!
Best Economics teacher ever! :) Helped me understand economics through a totally different perspective. Was confused at first and almost failed the class but asked for help whenever I got the chance, read the book, attended all his lectures, took notes. Ended up passing the class :D
his test are very easy and he curves a lot but sometimes that does not help because his classes are generally at night and it takes too much effort to go to class and he is not very clear in his lectures he also doesnt respond to his email and he doesnt go by the book o if you miss a lecture you wont know what they did in class.
Incredibly dry - "lectures" by talking at the class for 3 hours. No slides, no whiteboard use, nothing. Be prepared to take frenzied notes, because everything that he talks about is what he tests on.
I found the class to be rather excellent. The class is designed to challenge students, but at the same time help them appreciate the economics of trade. Professor Boudreaux, does not use PowerPoint, or heavy on the white board. You are expected to pay attention, but note taking is not necessary if you buy and read the book. Inspired :)
This was one of my favorite classes despite not being interested in Econ. Boudreaux is a fabulous lecturer--he makes his lectures interesting enough that it's fairly easy to pass every test if you just go and actively listen to what he says. I didn't use the textbook at all, went to every class and took notes, and got a good grade easily.
Super dry lectures. He has no organization and he rambles on and on. Has no power points, study guides, etc. Wouldn't recommend. 3 hour lectures are a pain to attend.
Read the textbook, not difficult and UNDERSTAND it. Go to his lectures and organize notes. Grade based on mid term, final, and paper. He is very interesting and intelligent. Not an easy A, but it's a college course.
He teaches at an elementary level, like everything is so basic and easy to understand; and yet his tests are SO difficult? its like his tests are the opposite of what he teaches? it makes no sense. he teaches at an elementary level and tests you at a college level. Also MUST go to lecture because he only tests off lectures, not out of the book.
He keeps things interesting. I'm glad I took him, but I also wish he'd use Blackboard, PowerPoints to lecture from, & had longer exams. 3 exams; 1st 2 only 30 Qs (each Q is 1% of your final grade!) & cumulative final worth 40%(50 Q). No other assignments. Take notes in class/record lectures! Review session is Q&A day before exam. Read the textbook!
Really, really wonderful teacher. I learned SO much and by the end of the semester, I have a new appreciation for economics. Seriously it kinda changed my life haha. ANYWAY, it is not a free A. I got an A+ but I didn't miss a class and I actually listened to his lectures (aka I didn't fb or text the whole time). Also, don't get the textbook.
Everyone talks about how hard econ is so I was so scared to take this class. Boudreaux is amazing! He explains things in different ways to make sure you understand. Take notes because his exams (only 3) are based on his lectures. He is a great teacher and actually made me interested in econ. Definitely take his class!
He is absolutely amazing. He explains things in a very clear way. He doesnt use a textbook. Just go to every class and take notes on what he says because that is what he tests on. Don't listen to the bad reviews at all. They are likely the kids who skip his lectures and then get mad that they got Fs and Ds. Best Econ 103 professor here at Mason.
One of the worst classes I have taken at Mason with the worst professor. Do not be fooled by his good reviews like I was. He is an absolute horrible professor. He has no power points or writes notes on a blackboard. His "lectures" have no correspondence with his exams. Doesn't take attendance and puts his students to sleep. Save your money!
His class is not easy but any means but it is not rocket science either. He doesn't use a textbook like everyone says. There's no point in getting it. He will tell you that it's still important to read it but it isn't. My best recommendation is to go to every class and record it. Make sure you pay attention and study.
Take this professor! He is very passionate about economics. The 3 hour lecture is boring but suck it up! If you pay attention and study for his exams you'll be very proud of your grade at the end of the semester. Don't waste your time in another economics class- trust me! I took Rustici and failed, took Boudreaux and got an A-!
micro is very boring if you took macro first.that said- he takes forever to explain things, spends way to long on justifying poor metaphors, giving redundant examples etc. only 4bullets of notes per 3hr class, but verbally ridicules students who leave lectures early: Big Ego. Some ppl like him because he makes "jokes". Didnt open the textbook; A-.
He is a great professor! Very interesting. Would definitely recommend him!!
Took this professor in 2012 for intro to micro. I had no prior econ knowledge. He was such an awesome lecturer and made the topics so clear. He was the reason I changed my major to economics and I haven't regretted it since. Seriously, take him!
I took micro with him and loved it. He's a great guy, always answers emails promptly, and I learned a ton from him. The first two tests were very easy, but the final was difficult. The only grades he gave were three tests, but that's expected with a large lecture class. Overall, I recommend him over Rustici (although both are great professors).
Realest dude alive, take him
He is a wonderful professor. I would recommend him if you need this class for your business major. Nice man, funny, and explains the material well. The lectures do feel long, but i mean I took it at night for three hours (only once a week tuesdays tho).
By far one of one of the best teachers at mason. Yes his lectures are long but he at least trys to keep them interesting, but its econ, what can he do. Basically 0 reading needed which is nice. The test are extremely easy if you actually attend class. Easy to understand and uses good real life examples. If you hate econ like me take this teacher
He is my favorite pro in GMU!! Highly recommended! Clear, helpful lecture with easy exam!
His lectures make you WANT to stay til 10 PM every week. He was so so amazing. His final was a bit harder than I thought. Even though it was the only class I didn't get an A in that semester, I would take his higher level Econ class in a heartbeat!!
Boudreaux is amazing! You do not need the book, but make sure to take good notes!
I would highly recommend this class. His lectures were fantastic and was great at explaining topics so you understand them. This turns out it will be an elective for me but is a very practical class. You don't need the book as everything on the tests come from the lectures. The tests were kind of hard I thought so make sure you really study
Great guy! Gives great real-world examples during his lectures, which really helped me understand the topics! He only tests in what he lectures about, so don't skip class!!!!!
Professor Boudreaux is very interesting, straightforward and has a way of making you want to learn more. Loved his class!
Boudreaux is AMAZING! He's the BEST professor at gmu for teaching econ! He's an INCREDIBLE lecturer! Uses GREAT examples to get students involved and better understand the material. He's also SUPER NICE and answers all questions students have. Record lectures, take good notes, and ask his former students for their test, you'll get an A+! TAKE HIM!!
He lectures on what he says so don't buy the book. His class is really interesting especially since I wasn't expecting to love econ but now I do! He's really funny and he cares about his students and wants them to do well. He explains the material really well and makes sure you understand it and not just memorize it. I've learned so much! I 3 Econ
he can be confusing sometimes, need to take notes and the exam is exactly what he says in class
Lectures are interesting and entertaining... quite light on material, even for a 100-level course, but he prioritizes making class interesting. Don't bother to study from the book; exams are 100% from his lectures. Just attend the lectures and take notes for an easy A. Very nice guy, too. Would take again.
I took Micro at NVCC a year ago (another professor), and GMU Micro with Don Boudreaux in Summer 2015. Learned FAR MORE from NVCC. Supply-and-demand in all its many guises is all that you're going to get from Don Boudreaux. His lectures are all-important, exams are based on nothing else, and he's up-front that you will not use the textbook.
He is a phenomenal professor. He is very nice and always willing to help out students when they have questions. Would definitely take his class again!!!!!
Extraordinary professor. Extraordinary person. Inspirational man. No explanation necessary. A blessing of a professor to have at Mason. Highly, highly recommend.
If you need to take Econ103, he's the way to go. Spectacular teacher, easy tests and an overall hilarious man. The only drawback is that he doesn't test you on the textbook, he tests you on only what he says in class, but the class is so enjoyable that it's not annoying to take notes and pay attention at all.
He is the best bet for econ that you'll have. He's kinda funny and you have to go to class to pass. He's light on material and a good teacher who cares about his subject. Big lectures that are long though.
Seemed like a 400 level. Can write down word for word what he says, but won't learn anything and none of it will be on his exams. If not an Econ major, his exams are super hard because he writes them like everyone knows econ. Not exaggerating - many ppl in class were repeats or had to retake them afterwards, like me. I was fooled too, AVOID!!!!
Amazing professor, NO homework and I didn't even buy the book. As long as you show up and pay attention during his lectures, you'll pass. Definitely take advantage of his pre-test Q&A's and study!
Boudreaux is by far the BEST econ professor at Mason. His lectures are so intriguing that they truly make you want to come back for next week. He is super helpful when you ask him questions. His real life examples make it pretty easy to learn the material.
It is a rather easy class. If you go and actually want to learn, you'll get an A. If you skip all semester (like I did) and cram the say before an exam, you can easily pull off a C or B.
Boudreaux will always be my favorite professor at Mason. His lectures are so stimulating that he makes three hour lectures feel like they are one hour. All you need to do is show up to class and take great notes. His class is ver y straightforward there are only three exams and nothing else. I learned so much and never needed to read the textbook.
One of the best Professors I've had. He only tests on what he lectures on so you don't need the textbook. He's very straightforward and doesn't try to make it too difficult to pass. Find someone who has his previous yet recent tests, the questions are often similar and help you understand how he words them and what material he'll ask about.
Professor Boudreaux is by far the most passionate teacher I've ever had. His lectures are almost life-coach-esque. The man speaks and breaths economics and will explain comprehended concepts in the most clarified way. Show up for class, give the man his warranted respect, and you'll be thankful for taking his course. A must-take teacher at GMU.
Boudreaux was fantastic. He doesn't give many tests, and those are the only grades given. Study for them and they're no problem. Great professor, although he goes less in depth than some of the other Econ professors I've taken. This didn't hurt me when I got to higher level Econ classes though, so I definitely recommend him.
Fav professor at GMU, tells interesting stories and gives helpful examples! And I love his voice 3
The material content seems like common sense, and to be honest it really is. BUT he is extremely wordy on exams, making it more difficult than it has to be. He does curve (only a few points). You don't need the textbook. Don't skip class because the exams are strictly taken from lectures. Out of all of our econ professors, I'd take him again.
Tests are easy. Took ECON 103 with Rustici but that was a mistake. Withdrew mid semester from that class. This is a much better class. Exams are easy and the lectures are pretty long and repetitive but the class is easily passable.
He is a great professor. Very passionate about Economics, and willing to help. The course consisted of 2 exams and a final. Attendance was not mandatory, but attending the lecture is MUCH more helpful than reading the textbook. I would recommend him.
Professor Boudreaux is amazing! He's hilarious, and makes economics interesting. His tests are based heavily on his lectures, so be sure not to skip! As long as you show up and take good notes, you'll do well in his class. His class is a bit easier than other economic classes, though. So keep that in mind if you want to higher level stuff.
Come to lecture everyday, take notes, pay attention. His lectures are very engaging and he is easy on the eyes.
Amazing lectures first two test are easy A or B the final is hard. Dont buy the book but go to class exams are similar or the same as the last semester
Lord Boudreaux is an excellent professor at GMU. His lectures are long and consist of a good amount of information, but overall the course is fantastic. You are only graded off three exams, which seems stressful; however, the first two are easy. With this being said the final is a bit tough, but manageable. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. RARELY USED IT.
If you do not go to his lectures, you will not pass his class. Although his lectures are long-winded sometimes, Boudreaux is a very passionate and interesting lecturer. The key points of his lectures are basically the exams. His tests are multiple choice and very straight-froward- just show up to class to learn the information. No book needed.
Great lectures. He uses real world examples and really engages the class with his stories that directly relate to the fundamental concepts of economics. Lectures are not mandatory but if you attend you are very likely to pass the exams with very little extra studying, since it's very easy to recall his stories and apply it directly to the exam.
Boudreaux made class interesting even though Econ isn't. I would recommend him to everyone taking Econ103 and 104. Lectures are long but class only meets once a week. He'll repeat important things that will be on the test, make sure you write it down! You're graded only on tests so make sure you study your notes. He offers extra credit.
You must go to class and take very good notes if you want to do well. You do not need the book if you take notes. Your grade is determined by 2 tests and a final exam, nothing else. The first 2 tests were easy but the final was more difficult. There is minimal work outside of class, as long as you go and take notes you should be fine. Great Teacher
Professor Boudreaux is a great professor who is passionate about what he teaches. He does not use PowerPoints and rarely uses the whiteboard save to illustrate graphs of more visual concepts. Your grade is comprised of only 3 tests; if you do not show up and pay attention, you will fail miserably. Tests based on lecture. Do not buy the book.
One of the best professors at GMU. don't buy the book, exams are based on his lectures.
No need to buy the book. Lectures the entire three hours of class. Three test are the only grades you will receive in his class, take detailed notes. Test wording is extremely tricky. He is passionate about what he teaches but it is difficult material to retain.
3 hour lecture with this guy isn't too bad. His way of lecturing the material at least prevents me from being bored for 3 hours. Keeps the topic interesting, and I think if you're willing to come to class, take good notes, and study hard; you'll do just fine. The best thing to do: get a voice recorder and record his lecture so you get every detail.
Dr Boudreaux is very knowledgeable person when it comes to economics but he lacks the ability to write things down especially when it come important components to economics. He expects you to make up yours own notes which at times can be difficult especially with tests. He does not take attendance and give no homework other than the reading.
Dr Bordeaux Does not use blackboard. Does not writes things down. Does not give study guide like every other teacher does. Does not use the text book . Does not respond to question by email. This is how i describe his class and i think he unqualified to teach this course and he us in the dark when it comes to topics covered in the exam.
His lectures were clear & understandable. However, the exams were far more difficult, especially the final, which was nothing like the material we went over in class. I was struggling with a C after the first 2 exams despite being a 4.0 student. I feel as though his lectures don't exactly align with his exams and are very unclear and tricky.
His teaching style is horrible and he loves to hear himself talk. Does not give any notes or a study guide for an exam. Does not answers question when it comes to personal understanding. Talks too much but does not write anything at all on the board especially when it come to important term. Feels like attending attending a seminar.
He a very nice guy but his teaching sucks. Does use blackboard which can be difficult to determine your grade. He will test you on topics completely different from what he cover. Grading policy is too much
Prof. Boudreaux is a great lecturer, I thought his lectures were interesting and exciting. He only administers 3 exams, 2 main ones and a final. The exams are only on what he lectures. He is also generous in giving curves to exam grades. He is very funny, and there is absolutely no reason to buy the book, you can easily pass without it!
He knows his the material very well but he lacks structure. He does not use Blackboard or give any assignment. Test are very difficult even if you get curve it does help at all. He lacks the ability to write down anything on the board when it comes to specific terminology. For those who get good grades take him for those who dont avoid him.
If I had to take Econ 103 again, I would definitely take Boudreaux. His lectures are long, but he gets you interested in the material
He is a great professor, really knows what he is talking about. But if you are not willing to sit there and listen to his lectures- you will not pass this class. He gives 2 midterms and a final. He does not give homework or put anything up on blackboard. He is the best econ professor, take him if you want to pass the class.
Donald is the best Econ professor at mason so I definitely recommend him. He is knowledgeable. As long as you go to class and take notes on the lecture, you will receive an A. He talks about the same thing for 40 minutes to drag on class, but there is no homework or quizzes. Your grade is based on 2 midterms and a final so you need to attend.
Lectures are the main thing. He lectures all class. Make sure to take notes and pay attention or you won't pass his tests. He tests on what he lectures, so make sure you show up to class, or at least have a friend to give you notes. The only grades he gives are the tests you take. His lectures are long, but worth it. Loved this class.
Only graded on 2 exams and a final. Doesn't use blackboard and takes forever to respond to emails. Don't miss lecture or you won't pass, so make sure to take great notes cause that's the only thing you can refer back to study for exams. Textbook was a waste of money in fact he wrote in his syllabus to follow what he says in his lectures.
It's hard to get a good grade in this class because your entire grade is just two tests and a final. If you don't do well on one, your basically screwed for the rest. I'd only recommend this class if you are a good test taker and don't want to do any outside work besides studying lecture notes (b/c that's what his tests are based on).
Boudreaux is the BEST professor at Mason. If you have the chance to take him do it! He makes economics interesting and funny. Hes got loads of stories that all correlate to what he lectures on and does a great job relaying it to the class. He know what hes talking about and if you just show up, take good notes, and listen youll pass easily.
He does make a 3 hour lecture very interesting and go by quickly. However, his teaching style made the class difficult. Not sure if its his strategy or just laziness. The only grades are 2 exams and the final. He will test you on anything he lectured on and doesnt have slides, notes, or any sort of study guide.
Professor Boudreaux is fantastic. Considering that he is one of the top economists in the world he is very down to earth. He is always willing to help and talk to students. If you disagree, let him know. He's very open to discussions. Really enjoyed this class.
One of the most useful classes I ever taken. Show up to class, pay attention very careful and you will get an easy A.
Maybe the best professor I have ever had. This class was intellectually stimulating and extremely useful. He's a terrific lecturer and if you show up, listen, and take notes, there is no reason not to get an A. Anyone who doesn't like him obviously did not attend class regularly. This class will give you a much better understanding of the world.
He is not that grade. If you hate econ then you will hate his class. grades were based off three hard exams. Show up and listen and take notes and u will do okay but it is soooo boring. only econ and finance people like him
your grade depends on 2 midterm and the final. I did bad in the class because i got a C on my second exam cause i was sick. this professor is really good and passionate about econ. the final was hard for me
He is truly the best Econ professor at Mason. It's all about listening and note-taking when comes to a high institution. He doesn't use blackboard or give out homework, however, he does repeat the concept quite a few times and provides great examples. The exams were decent and the key to pass this class is to take good notes and form study groups!
His class is based on 2 exams and the final. Just show up to class and take good notes and form study groups and you should pass the class with no problem. His lectures are very interesting and quite stimulating.
The class has 3 exams; exam 1, exam 2, and final. All of them come straight from lecture but you have to know the lectures really well/in detail. He does give curves and the exams are okay. Textbook was pointless to buy and he tells you to not buy it. Only thing I didn't like was that he does not give any assignments to help with your grade.
Was nervous about econ- took this course over the summer, best choice I ever made. I highly recommend Boudreaux. Lectures are easy to comprehend. Recording lectures will help tremendously! Write good notes and review them if you want an A which shouldn't be too hard. He provides no notes/pwrpt. Only graded on 3 exams, txtbook not required!!
exams are mostly on applying concepts in the lectures and are multiple-choice. i dozed off a lot in the class until the very end where it got a little interesting. i recommend taking notes and recording his lectures since his main topics are outlined in his head, but he speaks in an unorganized manner about them. luckily he gives a lot of examples.
Amazing lecturer! you never get bored in class! Final grade consists of midterm, paper, and final. If you will be absent for a class, make sure you can get notes from another classmates. He really knows what he's doing and I would take him again.
Prof. Boudreaux is masterful in economics. His lectures are very informative and he's extremely intelligent. In order to do well in this class, you need to attend every class, take good notes, and understand the concepts. His class consists of two tests and a final. Tests can be tricky and wording can be tough, but if you study, you'll be fine.
He is the best econ teacher at Mason, he only tests u on what he talks about in class. The book is not necessary. makes econ easy to understand. i would recommend to record the class, take good notes and get a study group for suree. i would take him again no boubt. he doesnt use blackboard. if u are struggling, talk to him!
Not only is he a very kind human being with a clear passion for his subject, but he's also a great lecturer. I won't lie, the class was pretty dry sometimes due to the nature of the material, but he made it more interesting. Grades consisted of 3 exams. Go to class, that's where all his questions come from. I would 100% take a class with him again.
Great Prof easy class three exams funny guy 30 multiple choice.
Don is a great Prof. I would take again. You dont need to do the readings if you show up to class. Very clear, and entertaining speaker.
Typical "big" college lecture. 3 exams make up your grade. What sets this class aside from other is that Don has teaching the basics of economics down to a science. I've taken him twice, got a C the first time, an A the second. My best advice is to seriously study for the exams, and look up past exam questions online. Great lectures. DON'T SKIP.
This was the hardest class I've ever taken. He is an amazing teacher, a master in his field, but its HEAVY lectures for 3 hours. No homework, participation/attendance don't matter, but there are 3 tests that are multiple choice. If you do poorly on the tests, your screwed. Great professor but if you aren't economically inclined, get a tutor.
If you want to pass ECON 103 then you have to take it with him. As long as you go to class and take notes in his lectures you will pass the class. I suck at ECON and i passed his class. The only way to pass is to be there, so even though he doesn't take attendance you should go. TAKE NOTES
One of the best professors at gmu. Tests could be bit challenging, but if you have been attending and paying full attention while taking notes during class, not too difficult to get A.
Attendance isnt mandatory, but you wont pass if you dont show up. He gives amazing lectures, and he has a great sense of humor. If you have a question, dont be afraid to ask. He will go out of his way in the middle of his lecture to make sure your question is answered. His tests can be difficult, but if you study and come to class youll be fine
Great lectures, textbook nor attendance not mandatory, only go to class and take notes on what he says. Great sense of humor! 3 tests based on his lectures so go to class but if you have a question ask him in class or afterwards! He also lets you audio record his lectures but may not be necessary if youre paying attention & taking notes.
I have been in the US for 6 years, and this is the best proffesor that I have ever took.
Does not care about the class or the students. Exams are lecture heavy and extremely difficult. You think you know it but you don't. Does not even know who you are. Three exams, two midterms, and one final. Dont skip because you will not pass. Does not let you out early despite it being a nighttime class.
When it comes to the other professors for econ103, hes the most understanding. He reuses a lot of old exams, especially those from the semester before, so ask around to study theirs. Bring a recorder since its a three hour lecture to get an A in the course. Overall though, hes the best to take for Econ103
He will only test you on what he lectures and the grade for the class is determined by only three exams. Make sure you attend lecture and take notes and you will, at the very, least be able to pass with a B or higher.
SHOW UP OR YOU WILL NOT PASS!!! The textbook is completely useless and he will only test you on what he talks about in his 3 hour long lectures. You have to record his lecture and/or take very rigorous notes to do well on his exams. Also he doesnt use any kind of PowerPoints, outline, or even blackboard.
Show up to class because the tests are based on what he talks about in class. You do not need to buy the textbook. Class can get a little boring but just pay attention. This is my second time taking econ and he is for sure easier than rustici.
Attendance is not mandatory but you won't pass if you skip. His lectures are long and he can be repetitive but he tries to make it interesting. He was an actual gem with moving to online. He is the best option for taking econ 103.
Make sure you go to class! SUPER IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO NOT SKIP. ALL the things from his exams are STRAIGHT from his words from class so make sure you take notes! Fairly easy class if you just show up and listen to what he is saying.
His lecture is interesting but a little bit heavy for non-econ major student... Some of his writing on the blackboardonlineis illegible, but as long as you pay attention, you can figure it out. I took him online3examseasy B. A is possible
Professor Boudreaux is good professor, who teaches this course maybe for a few decades. If you miss the lecture, gets a chance of failing exam. Lectures are going boring somewhere at the end. As it changed to online, it is easier as he was recording lectures. You need to write a lot in order to get an A. The material itself isn't rlly hard
Professor Boudreaux is a great professor. He is very knowledgable of economics and has been teaching for many years. Check out his Wikipedia page! The only grades you receive are for exams, but so long as you watch the recorded lectures and take notes you'll be fine. Attendance is not mandatory, watch lectures anytime. No textbook.
He was a great professor and really taught me about economics. He is very passionate about what he teaches and loves speaking about economics. He will help you if you have a question and always gives examples for material he teaches. As long as you pay attention and take specific lecture notes you'll do fine. Just remember specific things he says.
Lectures, and 3 tests. That is all you get. It is a good class and he is an excellent lecturer. I am very bad with async classes, so I did not do as well as I would've liked on his tests. I recommend if you can keep up with the lectures.
For ECON103, not a bad teacher. He's interesting to listen to, but he definitely goes on tangents. His tests are based off of the understanding of the concept and its application, not the just the concept itself. The entire grade of the class is made up of 3 tests, so lectures and notes are important. I prefer him asynch because you zone out.
Dr. Boudreaux was and still is my favorite professor ever. There is no homework or classwork and the exams are only on the lectures. Best of all, he is actually intelligent. He is organized and knows what he is talking about. If you can, take this professor!
His class is honestly really hard. Its just based on three exams, and its frustrating because he doesnt give study guides. Youre on your own to watching the millions of lectures he posts to try and piece together what will be on the exams. If you can, try taking someone else. He is hard to reach by email, so good luck.
Good Professor and he's interesting, but he does go on tangents. You need to understand class concepts AND apply them for the exams. Grades are made up of 3 tests, so you need to attend lectures and I recommend taking notes. I prefer him asynchronous because I can pause the lectures when my brain turns to mush. He also sometimes curves.
very good lectures, but you must show up to the class for the lectures. if it is online still watch the lectures because that is the only thing that he posts. but his lectures are what he tests on, the tests are not difficult, but you must show up the lectures to pass. he knows what he is talking about and is very good at describing them. :)
During lectures, he gives humorous anecdotes and hypothetical situations to apply the content we learned to real life. He gives no homework, but you must take good notes during lectures to study for exams. I recommend taking it online because he barely uses presentations and visuals.
Prof. is good but the only issue is there's only 3 exams and if you do bad on them there's no way you will pass the class. Therefore you need to watch the lecture and take notes. not an easy A class the TEST ARE HARD!
TAKE HIM! All the other professors are trash. I thought this guy was going to be a d*ck but he is extremely considerate. Once a bunch of students emailed him about an exam so he gave us all an extension. He uses real life situational examples to teach econ concepts and make things natural to understand. He doesn't deserve any hate he gets on here.
I would say Prof Boudreaux is an ok professor. His tests are very hard and based on his lecture only, which were very boring. He only did 3 tests and no other way to get points, so if you don't do well in all of the tests, it is hard to pass his class!
you NEED to watch all of his lectures in order to do well in his class. luckily he makes his lectures very interesting and engaging even though the class is asynchronous. class is made up of only 2 midterms and 1 final exam and he tends to curve a lot.
amazing guy, lectures are lengthy but he is good at teaching the material. A very humble man. take him!!!
This was an asynchronous class for me and it was pretty easy as long as you watch his videos. The only grades you have are 2 midterms and 1 final. Just make sure you pay attention to what he is saying because his test are completely based off of what he says in his lecture, as well as the example he uses.
great lectures but since it was an online class i had no energy for it. I'm sure this class would have been great in person, but because it was online with only the tests to rely on, i'm sure my GPA is gonna tank after this semester. He's passionate about econ, but if you prefer more assignments to help to cushion your grade, don't take him.
Don is a GOAT for Econ! He's fun and intelligent at the same time! There is NO homework, NO quizzes, or NO class assignments. Just three things, the beginning, midterm, and Final Exams. That's it! However, since your grades are dependable on the EXAMS, just make sure to go over your notes and pay attention to his lectures.
How does he have so many good reviews? All he does in his lectures is ramble about nothing. Grades depend solely on 3 exams and he has no study guide or anything to practice what you learned on. His exams are specifically created to confuse you with the weird and nonsensical wording. Pls avoid him at all cost. Oh and he never respond to emails
His class is basically struggle on your own. His test have very little to do with his lectures. I cleped out of this class but I did it to late so I had to retake this course with mason. I got a perfect score on my clep but could not understand most of his tests. Honestly this man should retire and should not be teaching a virtual class.
I am confused by the positive reviews I am seeing? This class is the only 100 class I have gotten a C in and is preventing me from being on the dean's list. I watched his lectures, took notes, and asked other students for notes and tips but nothing worked. Even the grammar on his tests doesn't make sense! He asks the most twisted questions.
At all costs avoid taking the class online. The textbook and the posted lectures did nothing to help when it came to test day, and this class was a point of stress for me all semester. Even the quizlets were of no use. The test questions are phrased in confusing ways and there was nothing else that went towards your grade other than the tests.
I took ECON103 class, and it was a stressful class for me. His exams were very difficult although I studied hard. There are no PowerPoint slides or exam reviews. Only watch his videos. If you are looking for a good grade, don't take him.
Amazing professor! He is passionate about the topic and his lectures are very engaging. He was able to explain concepts I had difficulty grasping before. You have to show up and take detailed notes, that's the key! You don't want to miss any classes as he takes material directly from lecture examples for his exams. Only 3 exams and no homework.
Professor grades the class on 3 exams only the exams are difficult and worded very poorly. He never replies to emails or provides other assistance. His lectures are very disorganized and are mostly just him spitballing ideas, with no power point or word type of notes on blackboard to review. I was able to get a B+ barely, even with working hard.
Very respectable teacher, knows what he is doing, and classes are fairly easy. Tests are ONLY based on lectures, make sure you know your notes back and forth.
I never had to write a review before, because I never had such an awful experience. This class only has 3 exams for your grade. You would think that since this class is exam based, Professor Boudreaux would have decent lectures. But all he does is rambles on without any visuals. Like what everyone else says, he doesn't respond to emails.
He said in his first lecture that his aim was to make this class the best we've ever had. He succeeded. Only thing he does is lecture. No homework, no quizzes, no papers. Just listen to his long but cool lectures, take notes, study a bit and you'll earn good grades on his exams (He only gives 3 of those so be sure to know what you're doing!)
Only 3 grades, so be careful. Inspired me to minor in ECON. He is hilarious, knowledgable, and pleasant to listen to. Probably the best prof I've had if I'm being honest. However, though he doesn't take attendance, you should show up if you want to do well on exams (these are your only grades so yes you do lol).
3 exams, all you have to do is show up to class, listen and take notes during the lecture. Nothing else. study a bit and youre set. Also one of the coolest people Ive met.
Professor Boudreaux is a great professor. Attendance is not mandatory, however his tests are all based on his lectures and story examples he tells. Although I got a C+ in the class he is hands down the best professor I have had. Your grade is on 2 tests and a final, but as long as you pay attention in the class you will do well.
Grade based on three exams which are made of his rambly, visual-aid-lacking lectures. Nothing to study besides your notes, articles, and interviews from and of himself. For a flat 100-level course, I expected less "thrown into the deep end" and more "taught how to swim." Didn't even have a textbook to fall back on.
I took Boudreaux's class through an internship program I was placed in. While Boudreaux is a good professor and genuinely cares about his students, he only provides two exams worth 30% of our grade and a final worth 40%. As long as you attend every session and pay attention, you should be okay. I wish he used some visuals or the textbook though.
Why is there so many positive reviews? This was honest to god such a horrible class (ECON 100). He only assigns readings and videos that either he has written or he has participated in, allowing no other perspectives in his class. It was difficult to pay attention in his class and impossible to study for. I hated this class and I got a B+. 0/10.
Really good and interesting lectures. He doesn't use many visual aids besides graphs but they really aren't needed. Show up to the lectures, take notes and you will do good.
I respect the way he teaches the class and how the workload only includes three exams throughout the semester. However, if you ever need assistance in the class you will need to reach out to him directly or ask someone with extensive notes in the class (I recommend joining any public group chats within the class.)
THIS MAN IS THE GOAT. THE GOAT. my glorious king. crazy curves take this mans class ong.
Great professor, but definitely avoid taking the night class if he ever has other options since he yaps a lot and you'll probably get really sleepy. 3 tests is the only thing graded.
Prof Boudreaux is such a king. He is nice and really cares about econ, but good luck getting help from him cause he isn't too accessible outside of class. Just take good notes and PAY ATTENTION and you're fine. The curves are generous. He is a tall king legend. Slay Donald
Prof. Boudreaux is simply great. The class is all lecture with three exams which he curves generously. Attendance isn't graded but if you don't show up you'll fail. The lectures he gives are interesting and you can tell he enjoys what he does. He'll frequently crack a joke, and surprisingly they are pretty funny. ALWAYS TAKE HIM OVER RUSTICI.
Professor Boudreaux is an amazing professor. His lectures are interesting to listen to and he seems to love what he does. There was no homework, only a few exams that determine your grade in class. If you show up and take a few basic notes, you will pass just fine. Highly recommend him for any economics class.
Great guy! Gives immaculate curves, but the tests themselves are already extremely easy. Keeps the class engaged through his funny lectures. You do have to show up to class to do well, but that's true for all econ 103 classes.
Professor Boudreaux is great. He is very lecture heavy and gives no homewo
So, I think that this professor is a good teacher when it comes to lectures. I don't have any issues with him as a professor per se- although I do wish he was more responsive, but this class will be very difficult for students who are not good test takers like myself. This course is only graded by 3 exams with some curves granted by the professor.
-Entertaining lectures -Don't need the textbook at all -3 exams are your entire grade -Curves on exams depends if someone got 100% or not -No homework at all, he sends out some videos and reading for further clarification that are optional -I am not an econ major nor have I ever taken econ and I found the course to be pretty easy Take Boudreaux!!!
Dr. Boudreax was a fantastic professor for my first college-level Economics class. The final grade was based on two exams(30% each) and one final(40%) with no other supporting grades. This is great if you pay attention because the exams are easy if you work through the questions in his recommended textbook.
Boudreaux's lectures are entertaining, and you don't need the textbook. With 3 exams as the only graded work and generous curves, the course is pretty easy even for non-econ majors. unstuckstudy ai is a great tool for studying alongside the lectures.
3 big test. Attend lectures and take GOOD notes. generous on curves. Tests are directly from lectures but given heavy loads of information. Study a good amount and you should be fine.
He yaps a lot about his past and doesn't get to the point. You have to listen to him carefully he might repeat what he says that's important and not (It's 50/50). He doesn't give recordings of lectures and prepare to not have any homework and only exams. His exams aren't that hard if you have good notes and pay attention.
Smart guy without a lot of history (that he will yap about). Generous on curves but exams are the only grades which is tough. Take good notes and pay attention
2 mid-terms and a final, Take notes from the lectures to study for the tests
He just talks the whole class and grade is based on 2 midterms and final.
He is a very traditional professor. You show up to class, he talks for 75 minutes while you take notes, he will have the lecture before an exam be for questions, you take exam, and repeat. There are two midterms and a final. Midterms are 30% each and the final is 40%. Am not an econ major but honestly found his classes interesting. No math in class
3 exams throughout the whole semester, and no other assignments. Generously curves exam scores as well. If you don't take quality notes you're cooked. If you can't show up, ask someone for their notes, or if there is one join the classes discord server. Professor is too overqualified to be teaching an introductory class. Explains things very well.
Professor Boudreaux holds interesting lectures and overall provides a good learning experience for learning microeconomics. If you don't attend the lectures, you will struggle... my roommate can attest to that.
Overall great professor, definitely brought a lot of vitality to economics. Made lectures very dynamic. Very big class and much individual attention.
Boudreaux's class is based by 3 tests. 2 mid-terms 30% and final 40%. Skip and you will struggle since his examples are part of the test. Tests are basically the lectures as well as examples. There are quizlets that help pass the exams but taking notes is really helpful. He doesn't give hw or take attendance.
Don's tests are examples provided in the lecture and lecture so take notes. Your grade is based on two midterms worth 30% and the final worth 40%. If you skip you will struggle. I encourage you to take notes and attend lectures, they can feel long sometimes, but most of the time they are fun.
Your grade is based on 3 tests. If you follow the lectures, you will pass. Quizlet has good studying materials.
Entire grade is based off exams, but he curves and makes it a lot easier to pass. One of the better econ professors here.
Great professor. If you are more of an auditory learner, this guy is for you. Just make sure you show up on time and ready to take notes. His tests are straight off his lectures, and his lectures are very intriguing and interesting.
I'll take him over Rustici any day. Only grades are the 2 midterms and a final. The lectures are quite boring as a non-Econ major but at least he's passionate. A lot of people write this class off and lose interest, only to remember it exists at the end of semester and possibly fail. Be accountable and fight the overwhelming urge to skip. LOCK IN.
As a non-econ major, Boudreaux's classes are long and boring. He provides no recordings or powerpoints for his lectures, just him talking the whollleeee time. The 3 exams (2 midterms & final) are the only thing he grades, so if you do well on those you will pass his class. Overall he's a good prof, just painfully boring lectures...
Do not take Boudreaux's class his lectures are too long and it is difficult to keep up. He does not give us access to his lectures, your best shot is hoping someone was recording his lectures. If you miss even one lecture your effed on the exams. There are 2 midterms and 1 final the questions are poorly worded and the answers do not make any sense.
The class is BORINGGGGG and HARD with long lectures and no PowerPoints or online modules to help study. If you skip, you're lost unless a friend shares notes. It's all lecture-HEAVY , and tests don't make much sense. There are only two exams and one final, making it tough to keep up without attending every class. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!
There are 4 pop quizzes, well, technically 3 because he drops one no matter what. There are 2 midterms and 1 final, that's it, nothing else, no hw no nothing. The textbook is optional, and I never bought it. If you actually enjoy Econ, then take this class, but if you lose focus a lot and find lectures boring, then just take this class online.
Go to class, take notes and you will pass. Solid Professor.
He yaps ALOT, Like a lot a lot, if you miss lectures often, then you are screwed. He is a great guy, and he is funny, however the class itself is very boring and it is very hard to focus. The tests are easy as long as you come to class, and beware of pop quizzes.
this class is lecture heavy, dont take this if you're freshman interantional, you will not understand anything from this class, he didn't upload anything on the canvas even your test score
He grades tough but lectures amazing.
He doesn't grade on anything but exams and pop quizzes, so you must show up to class for either a pop quiz or his lectures, which are not recorded. He is very traditional and straight-talks the entire class, writing barely anything on the board, which is so boring. However, the class is very easy.
The grading system is so bad, based off of pop quizzes, 2 midterms, and the final
He seems genuinely passionate about this course, and sometimes funny, that's why he gets a 2. The problem is that he doesn't grade ANYTHING, and I mean ANYTHING. He graded a single pop quiz that was administered during the first two weeks of the semester. I asked him if he would grade anything before the exam, and he said he doesn't know how to.
Horrible teacher, doesn't grade things and doesn't explain things very well. He doesn't know how to use the grading system which is a joke. Do not take this class unless you wanna go insane
Terrible professor. He claimed to give at least 4 pop quizzes this semester but only graded the 1st one we took. His grading system is just 3 exams + the only pop quiz he graded and he is a very tough grader/doesn't know how to grade. He also just talks the whole class and doesn't use slideshows for his lectures. Would not recommend.
Prof. Boudreaux is a great teacher. His lectures are interesting/informative, and he is funny and caring. I didn't put in enough effort and didn't take enough notes, which is why I struggled. That is not his fault. Try to take ECON103 with him, but do your best to attend every lecture and take notes, as there is no homework, only quizzes/tests.
The course is graded by 4 pop quizzes lowest gets dropped, 2 midterms, 1 final. He sometimes curves midterms and is a quick grader but doesn't upload to canvas so you need to keep track of your own grade. Lectures are almost completely verbal, good if you are an auditory learner. Very easy class if you show up and read the provided readings.
absolutely outstanding lecturer, which is good, because it's the only thing he does. his classes truly are interesting though, and probably the best person to take to get this requirement out of the way. if you need to take this course, take it with him.
