He's a good teacher if you are a dedicated student. This class is NOT an easy A, but if you do the reading and copy the notes on the board you'll be fine.

this guy is pretty kool... his tests are unbelievable, bring some tissues to cry into. very fair & unbiased, right wing is evil BTW, and he can be a little bit of a ****bag @ times. take LOTS of notes
Hard in the summer..class goes too fast..take lots of notes! not an easy cheesy class! easy tests, but read the questions cuz some are tricky..really READ and UNDERSTAND politics..
I refuse to leave LBCC because of Dr. Douglas. His tests are difficult, because he poses abstract questions. You can't just memorize definition of the terms; you must have a lucid understanding of the concepts the terms imply.
great teacher.
Great teacher but it gets pretty boring. He makes compelling arguments and statements but I just couldn't stay awake in the morning with his monotoned voice.
Dr. Douglas is dedicated to the success of his students. He is available via email or office hours and is sincerely interested in every student's sucess in and out of his class. The classes are informative and interesting. His lectures are great outlines for the material & prepare you for tests.
He's a cool teacher and he really tries to go easy but he's not a good test giver. the first test was essay and mostly every1 did goo but the other 4 were multiple choice and were very hard. You write a short paper but he's not that bad. If this is your major take him and deal w/him. overall he's ok
Dr. Douglas is an excellent instructor. Whether you are interested in majoring in political science or fulfilling a general education requirement Dr. Douglas is the perfect instructor for you. He is extremely approachable and is always willing to help his students. I encourage you to take his class
Outstanding professor. Puts in more work, knows about his subject, and is smarter than profs I've had at 2 top tier schools. Very unbiased&fair strives for this. In fact, quite possibly the best teacher I've ever had. Ez to have a negative attitude at this school, stay positive its better than u thi
If you take Douglas, you must be a serious student. He expects you to read all the readings he assigns, and you must be able to give him dates, names, etc, on his exams. He doesn't play around, when it comes to political science. He will challenge you, but you will learn.
If your someone that is always a minute late, this class is not for you. He teaches puntuality buy locking people out of the class and marking them down a grade for being late. Other than that, its a very straight forward class, and he grades on a serious curve (i think 60-79% is a C)
Best teacher I've EVER had. He TEACHES! Has a real gift for this. He is an excellent person all around. If you are an immature student and expect to get an easy ride, don't take this course. LBCC rocks because of professors like him!
I didn't like his class at all. He's very opinionated and makes you choose his opinion to get the point on the test. His multiple choice test questions are very confusing, and his lectures are VERY dry and unentertaining.
Dr. Douglas is a tough instructor and expects a lot from his students, but if you are up to the challenge, you will definately learn what he is teaching. He is very willing to give individual help and answer any questions.
Dr. Douglas is a good man.How well you do in the class depends on how much time you have. It's not a very easy class but I pulled an A by reading ahead and studying off his lectures. If you read the chapters twice and do the practices a couple of times then you should be good. It's pretty much a memorization class. 5 exams and you get to drop 1.
Dr. Douglas is an excellent educator. He is professional and very dedicated to his students. His lectures are interesting and they prepare you for the multiple choice exams. He also ties in current events to the class and encourages lively discussion. I highly recommend Dr. Douglas and I learned a great deal from his class.
ewe. this class is so boring. you have to read to pass the test. his lectures rnt that big of a deal if you read. soo boring.
His class is hard & boring, but u do learn a lot in his class. He expects everyone to attend class on time if not u will b penalized. His test are mltchoice & come mostly from t book,so u must read 2 pass.I got an A & B in his class but read every night before t tests. This class is for serious students if u r not then dont take him.5 test & 1 paper
This class is definately not an easy A. Prof Douglas expects you to work hard & study hard in order to pass his class. Lectures are extremely organized but dry at times. Exams are multiple choice & your lowerst test score is dropped. You're lucky if you get a C; in order to get an A/B you have to study days in advance & read the text periodically.
HE IS A GREAT TEACHER AND EXPECT U TO BE THERE EARLY. HE GIVES NOTES ON THE BORED AND YOU WILL BE TESTED ON THAT. HE IS ALSO GREAT LOOKING!!!!
Very good teacher. He is very organized and his lectures are very informative. He makes the class interesting.
He is very hard and has a dry personality. My GPA is 3.4 and I still got a D in his class. He is very opinionated as well and favors students who participate. If you're quiet like 85% of the class, you're screwed.
His lectures were very dry and he was hard to understand at times. He was also rather opinionated.

Professor dougls is very difficult to understand @ times and he expects way to much work for his class. I wouldnt have him as my first choice.
Dr. Douglas is the worst teach ever! He is very opinionated and if you have a personal problem he will punish you for it! He has no sympathy for anyone in any situation.
he is a total ****. he lies and bullies students....he even makes crap up. i had the 2nd highest A in the class and then somehow got a D! he disagreed with my opinions and then held them against me. he contradicts himself in lectures. he sucks. dont take him!
I had him last semester, I hadent been to school in 10 years and I got an A. You just have to do whats expected of you, His lectures are very imformative. I learned alot. There is a lot of reading though. I recommend him.
If you go to class every day and listen to what he has to say you will get an A. He is also very helpful
This guy is a not cool, if you play a sport he gets on your case about it. In the second week of school he went to the dean and complained about 5 of us baseball players because we were talking before class had even started. Don't take him.
Douglas has to be one of the school's BEST. EXTREMELY knowledgeable, passionate, and HELPFUL (wants to see you succede). I think the problems others are having actually stem from work ethic; the class isn't hard at all, so long as you READ, and his class policies only reflect those you should already practice as a student preparing for transfer.
Yes he is a very knowledgeable professor and truly understands what he is talking about but he is way to anal. And majorly stuck up in his ways and his personal believes. And completly ostracizes people who don't agree with him. Strongly inforces school policies on tardiness even up to 2mins being late. I seriously do not recommend him.
Dr. Douglas is a professional- students that rated him w/ low scores r most likely students that aren't taking school seriously-Douglas has a very clear class structure-AND IF YOU FOLLOW IT- you wont have a problem! Yes,he may be a stickler for tardiness- so just be on time- its not hard to do! His tests are not difficult- he even drops lowest scor
Dr. Douglas is a great professor. He knows he's material and has such passion for teaching it. He's very helpfull and very clear about things. Yes, he is very strict about being absent and tardy but common your in college now. In regards to the comment about him not liking athletes well that not true at all, you guys just talked way to much :-D
Douglas is a great teacher to have if u are into the political field of study. The exams may be hard but u compile more more knowledge. Personally, im getting a B in the class but this class is a classical example of; the more u put into this class the more u get out of it. He also will also emphasis his office hrs,use them. Great prof. for pol. mj
The guy is smart and knows his stuff. Dresses professional every day and is well organized and prepared. Doesn't miss a day of class and is available during office hours. Does assign a good amount of reading but it is for your own benefit. If you seriously study you are most likely to get between low-B to low-A. Most profesesional on campus.
He is a great teacher, knows the subject very well study the book before you come to class and you will be fine. do the very easy news analysis to and ontime helps your grade alot
This Instructor's exams are so hard, he doesn't give any reveiws and if you have him once a week he'll lecture the last chapter of the test on the day of the exam. He doesn't lecture on the second book. The questions are confusing and unclear. Reading the book, highlighting and studying notes still don't help much...
Dr.Douglas is very interesting and is WORTH listening to!
BIG on memorization and many of his multiple choice questions are poorly written. His impeccable dress is a visual reminder of his far too anal expectations of students. Only take him if this is your only class and can devote A LOT of time to the material!
I took him a couple semesters ago and he has by far been the worst Poli Sci Major I've had. Assigned reading is bias and so are his views. Overall NOT GOOD. I took this class over with a different Teacher got an A. Even counclers agree hes bad, but he been here forever and is staying put.
Excellent Professor. Take good notes, use the online study guide, practice tests and also the textbook's website for additional practice exams and you will do well.
His class is very difficult. The first 2 tests seem easy, but it goes down hill from there. You have to use all your study resouces to ace the test, which are outdated. If your going to take him buy the study guide and spend days studying. Otherwise just avoid his class and find someone easier.
i took him for summer school. i hated this class. not only is his voice annoying, his powerpoints are pointless. it's all straight from the book. if you don't read then you're totally screwed. make sure that you read the test questions because they're very confusing. but if anything, take someone else because you will regret it.
Hard class, but if you put in a good effort you will do well. He expects you to actually understand the material and not just memorize it
I really enjoyed Political Science. This was a class that I did not want to take but I am glad that I took it with Mr. Douglas. He is a very good Professor.
This teacher is not the best of all. His test are more leaning toward memorization rather than implication, heavy use of textbook. His powerpoint lectures are useless because they are copies of the book, devote some time to meorize.
I enjoy the class. It was an awesome experience for me.
He sounds a bit like Mr. Howell from Gilligan's Island, but he's not bad. Seriously though, do the practice tests online and in the workbook. He pulls questions directly from there.
He likes students that ask alot of questions and show that they're interested. He makes himself very available to students both online and in person so theres no reason to struggle in his class and not get help. Very knowledgeable about his subject.
Not the greatest teacher in the field. Is one sided and doesn't have difficulty in showing it.
he's not an easy teacher, but he's still very helpful. he provides online practice tests, and office hours for all his students. he's a pretty cool guy, he can be funny at times.
4 exams and 1 notebook project. Ridiculous grade reductions, 5% from total grade, for each absence or tardy after your second time (4 tardies = 10% reduction). To be fair, he is helpful, smart, and nice. Most of the exam questions are from the book and NOT from the powerpoint slides so read the book. Not recommended, too difficult.
The dude is from pure loserville, he sounds like a lib, claims to be a republican, puts way too much personal anger in the class, he hates it if you disagree, will make your life miserable if you do. One of the worst professors I ever saw.
He should not be teaching at all to a group of people. He treats class as if it was a television show of politics that was about ready to be cancelled.
You just have to listen to him. His lectures can be boring but if you pay attention you'll learn from it. Test are difficult make sure you do the sample tests online. Good to hear things from another perspective. Let's you retake tests. Just be a professional student and don't talk out loud and be late and you won't make him mad.
Tests are straight from textbook, in class notes not too prominent on tests. Nice, fun guy. Taught me a lot, got me interested in politics.
Don't take his class.
This man needs to teach at a Junior High School where his personal politics wont matter to the students. Avoid this class. Try another instructor or you will waste your money.
Dr. Douglas was a very good teacher. His tests were difficult however, if you take good class notes and read the book you will be fine. There is not much homework given, just one project. I would recommend Dr. Douglas to anyone. He is very passionate about politics and teaching and it shows.
this man was kind of dull. he read off powerpoint slides and his tests were based mostly on the reading and the slides. his class wasnt all that difficult but i was just a drag. hes intersted in getting his students to pass though, and thats pretty cool
if you are taking this class to get it out of the way, and not for your major then i would not recommend him. you have 4 midterns, a final exam, and a project. the project is easy, but it will not be accepted late. the tests are every month and he stands at the front and lectures using a projector which gives a small outline of chapter.
Makes the subject not so boring!
A competent instructor in the subject, but not quite in the area of instruction. Douglas pretty much gives you all you need to know about how to succeed in his course without actually helping you do so while taking his class. Just read the book, turn your project in on time, and casually pay attention during lecture and you'll be fine.
Douglas is a good teacher, you just have to stay awake long enough through his boring lectures to learn anything. He uses the book alot. by the end of class if everyone wasn't sleep, they were near it. I recommened taking someone else for Political Science.
good guy
Worst professor ever. Bias views and opinions. Although he knows his stuff, this guy is full of himself.
he is bias! jokes are not funny. do all right on the tests n the project is easy just take the practice tests online you'll do good. he reminds me of a smurf
lots of cramming during the semester..super boring..imagine what it would be like during the summer. straight from powerpoints and lots of quizzes.
Straight from powepoints, lots of quizzes and homework. I missed a few days and didnt really know anyone in class so it was hard to get the powerpoint notes. Overall a decent teacher..
Straight from the powerpoint boring lots of quizzes and homework missed a few days of class and it was hard to get the notes.
I Love Political science and I Loved His Class. He is a good teacher the subject is boring to many people but If you are into politics hes the man! Plus i thought he was cute! He was kinda funny sometimes because he would say things that were not funny, and the class would not laugh..THAT WAS FUNNY
I consider myself to be an above average student.I took his class and it was one of the worst classes that I have ever taken. He spent too much time talking about completely irrelevant topics and I never knew what to study for the tests(highest grade i got was a high C)The only plus- there is never any homework except for the news analysis notebook.
Possibly the worst teacher I have ever had. He won't answer any of your questions. If you take this guy, good luck! He won't help you out at all. His exams are full of nonsensical and "trick" questions. I'm a good student and I did poorly in his class. There is no excuse for terrible teachers like him to still have jobs!
His lecture's were teeming with right wing propaganda. It made it really difficult to take anything he said seriously.
I want to credit his tenure for his style, but I have a feeling he's always been that way. It's nice to have a professor that accurately reflects the standards and expectations one would expect in the real world. Work hard, be prepared and engaged and you'll do fine. Not easy but not impossible.
An extremely difficult teacher. Lectures 99% are completely off-topic. Arrogant and brags about being "unbiased." Reality, he is a right wingnut and attacks anyone with opposing opinions. especially democrats. if you take this class, be prepared to drop it. if your stuck in it. hold your tongue. he calls out people he doesnt like seriously terrible
Horrible teacher. Just horrible.
Prof. Douglas was completely different than I expected. He openly expresses his opinions with the class while encouraging students to offer their own views. This is what a Political Science class should be, open and encouraging of debate. If you have a strong opinion, you will enjoy his class, but if you cannot back-up your comments, he will c
Is a great professor, grade A! Unbiased and gives factual information. Those disgruntled leave low ratings. Grades are based on the reading, and knowledge, not on ones political views. He speaks of both parties, their good, and bad. Encourages students to get involved in discussions, regardless of where one stands on the issues.
This was the only class I looked forward to going to this semester. If you like a Professor who speaks the truth, does not hold judgement, is fair, intelligent, and an American patriot... then do yourself a favor and sign up. His lectures are crisp, his videos are very informative, and the debates are always fair and balanced. Great Professor!!
Best Professor at City. Clear, passionate, intelligent, and a nice person. Work hard and good things will happen. Debates and lectures make it worth attending every day. Couldn't of had a better time this semester. Awesome Professor! Awesome class!
Professor D was rad! He always made you laugh. Whether if it was in his lectures or in his videos online, he was always making class interesting. A good professor encourages one to work hard, and this is what Dr. D encouraged. I have a lot of respect for him, no doubt.
Great teacher, great class. I never liked politics, but now i do. "We the People"! Plan on switching my major from communications to political science. Thanks Professor, you were fantastic!
I took 4 classes this semester and this was my favorite class by far. The teacher was very smartnand knew what he was talking about. I learn way more when teachers enjoy teaching...this teacher enjoys teaching and wants the best for his students. I recommend this class 100% Teachers really funny too!
I took Dr. Douglas for PoliSci4. I can honestly say that World Politics is the class I gained the most knowledge from this semester. The main textbook, Global Politics by Ray and Kaarbo, was fantastic, and the supplemental readings and articles provided by Dr. Douglas related to the subject matter and were interesting and helpful. Great experience.
Great class & teacher. Nice to take a class where you can discuss your opinions on world events. Reading the book is a MUST!! I read all assigned readings and did very well. Classmates who didn't read didn't do so well. If you're a lazy, apathetic student, don't take his class. Read the book & participate in class & you'll do great!! :)
This was an extremely difficult class. He does not make it clear as to what will be on the test. Pretty much just study the book until you know it by heart. Very difficult tests and class attendance is mandatory. He also embarrasses people in front of the whole class pretty often. He is a very intelligent man, but DO NOT take his class.
i expected not to like him because his political views are absolutely opposite mine, but throughout the class he was really even-keeled and fair. when he expressed the opinions of opposing sides he did not try to convince you of the most conservative stance. i was impressed. also, he is a nice, helpful dude who cares about his students.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. The worst teacher I have ever had. Boring and useless.
Dr. Douglas seems confused and anxious much of the time, like he's thinking about all sorts of other things besides the course material. I did well in his course, but I don't think he has a sufficient grasp of his discipline to be teaching at this level. Powerpoint is his crutch.
If you are looking for a class and professor that will give you an honest idea of the demands and expectations of university level academia, then Dr. Douglas is the way to go! You will be challenged. This is not a cakewalk junior college Poly Sci class. Take off your diapers, stop whining, grow up and learn from a seasoned professional professor.
He is a nice and fun guy, at time quite entertaining but if you don't know your material, you will struggle. His class is not a easy ride, you have to work for your grade. He makes you work for it like all professors should.
he is a good teacher very clear, and encourages class discussion. Timing is hard to manage when there are so many students participate in the discussion which is good i would say but some may find it ineffective. A study guide would greatly increase everyone's clarity and understanding of they topics while taking care of any timing concerns.
This professor is a good choice for POLI SCI. There is no confusion about what is expected of you. He follows the text book closely (which is very up-to-date). It's so obvious he loves teaching Poli Sci. and he cares about his students. He has a great sense of humor and makes you laugh. I highly recommend this professor.
Dr. D is a teacher with a good sense of humor and is caring for students. He's exams are quite tricky and rather difficult but then I know he only does that because he wants us?his students? to be prepared in life. He shares stories that gives me reason to study harder. This class is a motivating class, you just really need to work harder.
Dr. D is a teacher with a good sense of humor and is caring for students. He's exams are quite tricky and rather difficult but then I know he only does that because he wants us-his students-to be prepared in life. He shares stories that gives me reason to study harder. This class is a motivating class where the persevering really are goin to learn.
I thought that this class was very awesome. I like how he talks about his past and how he got to where he is at today. Honestly, i had no interest in politics before. But now, i do. I recommend his class. He is funny and very knowledgeable. He gives encouraging words to his students, which i like. Keep it up.
Dr. Douglas is a great professor. The course outline lays out exactly what he expects from his students. If your interested in expanding your knowledge take him! If your hoping to slide through and get an easy A.. move on. This is college not preschool.
He is one of the worst professors at LBCC his teachings do not relate to the test at all. He goes completely off tangent! I do not recommend hime to anyone.
His lectures are very boring and not clear. You have to basically learn the book by yourself because he doesnt go over it. He just gives out outlines. The test have nothing to do with his lectures.
The hardest multiple choice tests I have ever taken with a high C average. He does go off tangent a lot and his lectures do not help with the tests. The only thing I like is that he is funny.
Good professor. Knows what he is talking about. Lecture can be boring at times but if you are interested in this subject then he is the Proffesor you want. Not much work, Just read your book like its the Bible and you will pass his class no problem.
He is obviously very interested, or else he wouldn't have majored in political science. You can easily get an A if you attend, read the textbook thoroughly and do the only assignment. I thought he was a little dull the first time I took him but the second time around his teaching style was definitely better. Good teacher. :)
I think he was very biased and too controlling of students. His lectures were boring and biased for serving one point of view. I stopped taking notes and he got upset, when and if I heard something good to write down I would have. Try another professor or even another school.
In this class your grade depends on all the tests he gives you one assignment so if your like me and don`t do very well on tests don`t take him and if this was the only class that was open and you got it study the chapters for an hour or so and you`ll do fine. This is an important class so study.
Does one chapter every single week from the book. The first meeting he does like the first 2 pages, then somehow skips to the last 4 pages of the chapter on the second meeting. Gets off topic a LOT. Tells bad jokes during class that no one gets until he says "I joke..." Grades on nothing but 4 midterms, 1 assignment and 1 final. DO NOT TAKE!!!
i believe this teacher is great.give you pleanty of time to earn points by participating in class. new analysis was great and not hard. Is pretty easy going and long as you give him the respect he deserves in class. be on time and attend. read your book and study .class was great!!!!!!!!!!1
He is a very good teacher. You must attend class because he notices and will call you out on it. There's two books required for this class. He only goes over one and the other you have to read on your own. He is available during office hours and tells you where your at and what you need to do to pass the class.
GOOD TEACHER. SHOW UP TO CLASS, TAKE NOTES, PAY ATTENTION, AND YOU SHOULD BE FINE.
I wish Dr. D would give more time to discuss the lesson than talk about current events. And I wish that he will give study guides, so that the students will know what he expects from them. Dr. D is a nice professor, though.
Talks a lot about current events during class, sometimes leaves little time for lecture. Only writes titles of sections on board. Writing notes is useless. Have to read book. Grade consist of 5 tests and one report
Loved the class material and enjoyed reading the book. However, Dr. Douglas is a bit of a drag as a professor. He does not provide study guides for the test which means you must study the book VERY well. Not a lot of class work, and no homework. I would recommend you take someone else if you are a polsc major or wish to gain from the course.
Nice person, but talks a lot about current events, and leaves the lecture until the last couple of minutes of class. His exams are out of the book, but attendance is mandatory in his class, so you must attend. Overall, I wouldn't recommend taking him if you're a poli sci major.
All he does is write the section titles from the book on the board & discusses them. It was hard not to fall asleep, he did make some jokes & seemed like a decent guy but horrible teaching strategy. Only tests & 2 other assignments. You need the book to teach yourself basically. I would not recommend him.
Worst teacher I've ever had. He writes the subject on the board then just talks about it and leaves you to write whatever you want. I understand this is college but you really have to teach yourself in this class and try and stay awake for his lectures every class. Only tests and 2 assignments, fail or pass. Save your time & money. Dont do it.
Tough class. You have to read and understand all material I managed to get a C because of the project, test are really difficult. If you like a challenge this is for you, nice guy though he tried to make the class interesting and fun, but good luck!!
He's pretty cool as a person; as a teacher though, there is some room for improvement. He spins off-topic and talks about current events A LOT. I counted once, in a 1 hour 25 minute class, we got less than 20 minutes of actual lecture. His tests aren't that difficult. Buy the book, and use the online study aids and you'll do fine.
Definitely worth taking for both POLSC 1 as well world politics. Very enthusiastic about subject, lectures can be boring but he does relate to present events. Very easy to talk to about any problems outside the class. Go to office hours if you need help, he will do everything in his power to help you pass.
He talks about current events the first half of the class and then rushes through the assignment he had planned because we ran out of time. All he does is write the titles of the chapters on the board and talk about them in a very dragged out lecture. Extremely hard to stay awake in class, many students fell asleep. Do not take!!
Prof. Douglas is an easy going guy. If you show up in class, make an effort and read you will pass easily. I had a huge problem due to the language and passed. If you have questions GO TO TALK TO HIM! He wants you to talk with him! He is really nice. Only negative thing are his notes on the board, they are just the headlines. Take him!
Amazing professor he has great lectures his class is very interesting I enjoyed it
Spends to much time talking about current events. I noticed He was rude to some people don't know why. Doesn't go over the book at all sometimes leaves for the end of the class he rushes & misses the most important facts.... I wouldn't take his class !!!!!!
This professor is easy! His tests are definitions and true false. If you pay attention in class, you will pass the class and won't really have to read the book. He doesn't take the whole class time, but at times he does rush through lectures. He also does NOT have written portions on his exams. However, his final does require a bit more thinking.
Mr. Douglas is tough and he does his lecture really fast but as long as you pay attention to his lecture you will pass no problem. Read the text is required every test question comes from the book. Test 4 is the hardest. Retake he allows for one of the first three test and final is only 3 chapters no need to study for the whole book.
professor Douglass is a good professor! I hated Political science and I managed to get an A! It's simple if your good at memorizing key terms you will pass! He gives about 4 exams, first 3 are all true and false (vocabulary from book) last one isn't that bad if you read! He drops one exam too and easy journal assignment worth 100 points!
Mr. Douglas is a great teacher and super helpful. If you have a personal problem or need help studying for the test he is there. He doesn't do homework other than a notebook of 6 articles. He only does test every three weeks or so and drops the lowest grade. My advice is to have the book and go along as he lectures.
It's not a spoon fed class. He is a cool guy, just doesn't baby you like most people are used to. You need to read the assigned material, and put in effort. He discusses things that are currently going on in the world, and is very interesting. You are expected to read on your own. If you can't handle that then don't take him.
This class is very boring and you must be in your seat on time. He tends to lock the doors to not let those who were late by a minute come in. He is not clear and only jots down bullet points of the main points he talks about. I do not recommend taking his class.
Very professional man. No handouts or sh!ts given. Relates current events to the textbook. Must read textbook to pass tests. Would take again.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! I was a 4.0 student until I took his class, I am a very good studier and read very well but got a C in his class!! His tests are full of trick questions so even if you read the text book, an A is impossible and he only has tests. no homework. no projects. no quizes. no way to redeem yourselves.
Dr. Douglass class was easy. You have 4 tests lowest score dropped and a final that is not comprehensive. You also have a paper which is easy because he gives you sources to cite. His lectures are dull. Just read the textbook and you will pass the class. Note he takes role everyday, and beware he is very open about his center right views.
I was nervous for this class as I am not into politics. Prof. Douglas is the best Polsc1 prof. to take if you struggle in history and politics. You are graded on 4 midterms, one paper (EASY), and the final. His lectures follow closely with the book. He takes the time to meet students to help them succeed and pass his class. He cares if YOU care.
Dr. D is the man. I have him at 7:15am and typically I am the one to skip a lot of my morning classes, but not this one. He is a great professor and it's hard to not pay attention because he is so funny yet informative at the same time. This class is a lot of reading and based solely on tests and participation, but definitely worth it.
His lectures is based of him talking and you writing notes. He doesn't present anything nor does he write anything down. Honestly what a joke he's to lazy to write down information. Don't bother taking his class.
Dr D is awesome, although the lectures can get a tad bit dry at times. The guy will call you out on stupid statements especially bernie people. Bernie is dumb and he will call you out on it. Grades on a few tests and papers and that's it so try not to miss any assignments.
Must read textbook if you want to pass. No notes, lectures are super boring. he goes on and on, and runs off topic a lot. Half the time I would not know what he is talking about. expects us to read 100+ pages and hope we do good on the test. No study guide either.
Not much to say. A bit conservative but justified upon explanation. Many tests, but not that hard to follow and fairly easy. Just read the book and be awake in class. DO NOT SHOW UP LATE TO CLASS ITS A PET PEVE OF HIS!
He makes the worst, most awkward jokes and has the screechiest voice EVER. He makes you buy an expensive online textbook for the class. Beware of center-right leaning views. Conservative comments made by him were by far the worst thing about the class besides the dude in the bolo tie that sat near the front.
worst teacher at Long Beach city college. tests are biased and full of trick questions, his "lectures" are all his opinions about his feelings toward politics or his life story.... gives no homework and only 4 or 5 tests with the worst being dropped at the end of the semester so there is no real way to redeem yourself. i wish I could rate him a 0
Hands down the most unprofessional professor Ive ever had. His lectures are 30% him sharing his personal opinions on current events, 40% rambling on subjects that have nothing to do with Polisci, the remaining 30% is him writing definitions of polisci terms on the board. Only covers 50% of whats on the tests, which are full of trick questions.
This professor is the worst professor in the LAC campus his lectures are so boring and he only talks about live events that arent even related to the class. He makes you buy a expensive book that is about $70 dollars and you have to read 3 chapters per midterm his tests are all filled with trick questions. You have to read his reading too.
I should of dropped his class before I even took it all his tests are hard he gives no homework, quizzes, projects, nor extra credit you have to do 1 paper in class along with a midterm the same day and 2 midterms later on and 1 final also you have to buy the book to pass and if you fail a test he wont let you make it up so try your best to pass.
He has problems with many students. Can be controversial. Tests arent that bad. Doesnt give homework. He said that I cheated when I didnt and gave me a 0 on the final, I had to go through a months long process to fix my grade. Hes not that bad if he likes you, but he doesnt like certain people at random. Suspended my friend for using bathroom.
I loved Dr. Douglas. I'm a die hard liberal so I thought we would butt heads, but we ended up getting along great and I learned a lot from his class. If you're a political science major you will definitely enjoy his class, you just have to learn to be tolerant of his conservative view points. He's always open to hearing opinions that oppose his.
Prof. Douglas gave four midterms(he dropped the lowest score), one final, and a written essay to prepare with the rubrics. He has office hours if you need help, and he even gave the opportunity to retake one of the first four midterms to help your grade. You need to read the book, and there are given terms at the back that are good for flashcards.
I would definitely recommend this class. Dr. Douglas is a genuine person and really cares about you as a student. Office hours are very helpful and he makes his lectures interesting and they are easy to follow along. There is never any homework other than reading and studying for tests. Again, I highly recommend.
If you show up on time, take notes, study the textbook, this class is for you. Dr. D is really awesome, tests are on his lectures and the text, interesting class. I got a D once on a test and went to office hours he reviewed why my answers were wrong, which helped me understand better, I retook and got an A. Put in the work and it's a great class.
I do not recommend him unless you absolutely enjoy reading about political science. All lectures have been based off the book. Goes on many tangents. Always says everything is in the book. It's frustrating. No homework besides alot of reading. On top of the book, we need to read articles that he provides that are so dense. No study guides at all.
Don't take this professor. Search the site for another teacher. Having personally taken him, and having many other students complain about this professor, I warn you not to enroll is his class. Class is graded on few assignments, no study guide, does not teach the test material, and attendance/participation is HEAVILY graded. Steer clear.
Dr. D is a very nice and funny professor. If you will read the book and attend class you will pass easily. He gives no homework besides reading. If you don't understand the material go to his office hours. He is helpful and will explain you everything . The questions on his study guide were sometimes almost identical to those on the test.
His tests are nothing what you go over or study when you receive your exam youre just in shock because nothing looks familiar he said everything was in the book I read and studied for nothing he gets off topic he doesnt even explain the topic correctly. Highly would suggest looking for another class. If youre late he locks you out the class.
Dr. D is the man! I thoroughly enjoyed his class, and learned a lot. No written homework, just Reading. Only one essay, so thats good. You can miss up to 6 times. He doesnt actually lock you out, if youre late. 20% of your grade is discretionary, so dont be a D$%$. I got Bs on most quizzes and got an A in the class. He leans Conservative!
I had this professor during the spring semester of 2020 when we transitioned to online due to the corona virus. He was very accessible via email, which made it good if you have questions. His grading is easy. As long as you read the chapters you are guaranteed an A on the quizzes. He makes it directly from the book. Great professor!
He was super chill and always showed both sides of the spectrum (conservative and liberal). His tests and lectures are straight from the book so as long as you study/read the book you will be fine. He encourages his students to look things up for themselves before they make political decisions which I really liked. Overall, he is one of the best.
Personally I enjoyed this class and relearned most of what I had learned in high school government class. His class is very simple to understand. He is a caring professor and is helpful to his students. There are many tests through out the semester but if you listen to his lectures and read you will easily pass. There is only one paper.
Dr. Douglas was an amazing professor towards the beginning of the class period. It was sad that after we had to move online due to covid we couldn't get to know him as a class. However he was fair on exams, his grading system is clear and fair, and he was outstanding. I would definitely take this professor again.
Does lectures scattered and writes everything down.
Awesome Professor. Dont believe the bad reviews. As long als you study and do your homework you will pass with an A.
When hes lecturing Douglas is pretty great at keeping the class engaged and interested . Just be warned that he does engage in debates with students more than most polsci profs do, which can distract from class. His political leaning also effect the class pretty heavily, so id suggest searching for and reading his writings online beforehand.
Taking the online class, I literally never got any instruction from him. The class was entirely reading the textbook, discussion posts about monthly, and tests. The only time we heard from him directly was when he posted a Pregar U video about 9/11 as an announcement on canvas.
I hate this guy. There are no instructions or guidance to be found. He was actually mia for most of this semester and when he finally graded our first discussion thread dude was a full of it. All his quizzes are stolen from quizlet but his midterms are not related to quizzes or textbook. My grade is carried by knowledge from old classes. Avoid him.
Horrible. Conservative and lets that strongly influence his class, assignments and multiple weekly emails that are extremely long and wordy for no reason. Uses PragerU every week and does not inform students on the misinformation in the videos. Only textbook and discussions, no further instructions. Fought me on transferring out of his class. Avoid
Lets just say Professor Douglas is not very subtle about his political views. He seemed to be very anti-left, and there is nothing wrong with that in general, but once you start describing or implying the left and COVID restrictions are comparable to Nazi policies, you're in a rabbit hole. I very much wish I took this class in person.
No matter how easy this class is he is a jerk. Definitely a class i would rather take in person so i can get my point across without him shutting me down immediately. Doesnt care for anyone but himself
You have your usual weekly discussion board, a big paper, and a few tests. None of it is particularly hard if you know how to read. On that note, there is a lot of article/journal reading but this is political science so get ready for that. Negative reviewers seem to forget that it's ok for other people to have different opinions, that's politics.
I would strongly advise that you take a class with another professor. Throughout the course I was met with tons of racist and sexist microaggressions and noticed that the professor was a lot nicer to his white, male, right leaning students. His class is not a safe space. His twitter account is proof of his harmful beliefs. @ampowerblog
Super biased person, with an insane ego because he has a phd in political science. If you do take this course, be ready to read some mind-numbing material. Don't include your opinion in any of your discussions, it will be wrong, because the political "scientist" said so.
People who thought negatively either a) don't like reading, or b) scared of opposing views/challenging beliefs. Dr. D is a phenomenal teacher that challenges you. If you stick with the "hard" assignments and put the effort in, you WILL walk away a more informed, confident student of political science. Take this class if you actually like to learn.
The thing that you have to remember about Doulgas is that he's extremely lazy. Don't expect anything from this professor and you won't be dissapointed.
Not the best professor. He is a very tough grader. Discussion posts need to be with very specific details and you need to stick to answering the questions he provides. He can be insulting towards students about grammar and such. His lectures are okay. He does provide conservative viewpoints but it's not a big deal if you're an open minded person.
4 multiple choice midterms and weekly discussion board. MIDTERMS are 80% of the grade and EXTREMELY EASY. Easy B with absolutely no effort. If you want an A you need to do the discussion board posts. The discussion board posts take effort: you have to cite the book and write at least three paragraphs to get credit BUT you only have to do 7 of them.
If I can get an A in this class, so can you. I didn't do so well the first time I took his class, however I retook it for the Spring 2022 semester and got an A. Just do the work. Google is your friend to find quizlets to study for the assessments. As many other people have stated don't lean to far left or right in your responses. You get 1uped.
Laziest professor ever.
I was extremely disappointed with Professor Douglas. He seemed completely uninterested in teaching the course and was often unprepared for class. Additionally, his bias was evident in the way he presented material and in the grades he gave. It was clear to me that he was just going through the motions. I would not recommend taking a course with him
He's very great at giving lectures and does not grade hard at all.
HORRIBLE CLASS. Profesor is a very nice person but refuses to use canvas in anyway or post any grades as well and when you email to ask for your grade he tries to tell you how to do it instead of literally just telling you. Lectures are ok, not harmful but also not really helpful. You basically teach yourself in this class. WOULD NEVER TAKE AGAIN.
The man is lecture-heavy but he does encourage questions and discussion by students. He also offers a lot of both past & present day articles on the topics being taught. Great semester!
If you communicate with him he will always try and accomadate. Not a slack off class but not overly difficult. He was awesome !
worst professor ever. i've never written a review but please don't take this course. the professor is extremely biased and graded my paper based off of his religious beliefs. this guys has a huge ego yelled at anyone that even slightly disagreed with him. He wrote passages from the bible on my essay talking about women's reproductive rights.
