his teaching is understandable, but he is very anal with test and expects you to know every single minute detail of the slides. He is good if you want to be a doctor or a scientist!
very confusing exams even when you know the material!
His exams are difficult. He gives you no credit if you spell the word wrong. He is good if you want to be a doctor. He is anal and likes to hear himself talk. Unless you are ready for a greater challange than what you need, switch out!
I had him for a summer class and I used to attend St. John's. I wish my bio teachers there were more like him. As long as you take good notes, his class wasn't as hard as everyone says.
hes tough. you will learn, but he never gives you a break. i wouldn't take his class again.

Very good teacher. I learned a lot. It is a tough course, but really interesting. I found him very fair and he gives many opportunities for extra credit. Will be taking him again in spring.
Hard...but worth the effort!
It's a tough course, but very interesting. I enjoyed his class, spent alot of time studying, and did well. If you really want to learn and are willing to put the time in, his classes are definately worth it.
Prof. Ferruzzi is a very hard teacher....tests are even harder, however he is very respectful of his students and very fair in the end...gives extra credit opportunities to bring your grades up. I'm not sure that it's necessary to know the intricate detail that he goes into...but I still think he's a great educator.

Wonderful teacher. As others have said the class is very challenging. Many opportunities for extra credit. Wish I could take the class again...We need more teachers like him.

Prof. Ferruzzi is one of the great ones. I attended a university, so I have had many instructors, especially for biology. He expects nothing less than the best from his students, people misjudge him for that. But that is what is required of you when you enter the health professions, which most of his students do. He is def. gold standard!
This is a very intelligent man and is very approachable, but had hime for by32 lab, focuses way too much on pronunciation and spelling of terminology. Lectures don't follow tests very well. I thought tests were on difficult side. If you are really conscious of your GPA go with someone else.
makes a hard topic harder. not a bad person but i wouldnt recommned him.
He is a not a good teacher. He is even not a doctor! I don't even know how these suffolk "MDS" even get to teach these courses. Not only does he not know his stuff, he has an attitude problem.
I enjoyed this class. He was entertaining and informative. I felt he prepared you for the material and gave you all the info and time you may need to succeed in his class

its a pretty good teacher and he explains stuff well and he gives extra credit if almost evry1 bombs d lab test
An excellent professor. He only expects the best from his students. He should be teaching at a more distinguished institution.
AVOID THIS ONE
He is very fair, adds humor, exams are challenging but study his lecture notes. He comes across as an educator who devoted to his work and seems to work hard at keeping the interest level of his students on high.
I had him for both BY30 and BY 32. Genuinely loves his profession. He speaks like a textbook with humor and interest. He is the chairman of the Natural Science department and consider the time with him a golden opportunity. He treated all his students with respect and challenged us to think critically.
Brilliant professor. He should be writing textbook with his knowledge. The class is fun but tests are hard. Don't take him for summer class unless you don't work. But recommended for regular semester. Study his lab book also for lecture test. Good luck
Awesome professor that really loves his job. He makes the lectures fun and very informative. His tests may be a little hard but if you study the lab book you will do fine. Good tip would be to know the review questions at the end of every lab in the lab book as many of those questions are on the test.
First, let me add that I did not pass his class, but I think he is is a great Professor. The class was interesting and he kept you thinking. Alot of time is required for BY32, which I did not have. When I do take the class over, I will have no problem taking it again with him. Excellent Instructor, he should write a lecture book.
If you want to learn something, take his course. I took him during the summer session, and while it was a very intense 8 weeks, it is absolutely possible to do well if you put the work in. Between the extra credit and the review sessions he gives, he makes every possible effort to get his students through the class. He really does care.
Prof. Ferruzzi is very knowledgeable and hilarious! As hard as this class was I looked forward to every class night. He really works with everyone, he WANTS everyone to succeed and does what he can to help you.
Professor Ferruzzi is a nice guy. The class is insanely hard and I think he does his best to get yout through it. It takes a lot of self-learning to do good in his class. Make sure you read the text and take notes on your own. He doesnt always cover everything so well in lecture.
this guys is great, laughed my ass off, he made this a gr8 experience. Excellent Prof. pay attention, do the work...pass the class...really miss that class! wish they we're all like this. Almost made me wanna give up nursing to be a biology Prof... Enjoy!...btw he really should be in a more prestigeous institution...Thanks Prof. Ferruzzi
Prof. Ferruzzi is a very intelligent man. I will admit his class is tough, but if you do the work and study the material you will do fine. Only down fall is that he bases his grades on tests and nothing more. He's not a bad teacher, students just need to put the effort in!
By far the best professor I have ever had at any school, in any subject.
Prof Ferruzzi is the hardest professor I've ever experienced. He talks like a textbook and his tests are sooo hard. But he's a great teacher and loves his subject.Offers some xtra credit.Good sense of humor!you may feel overwhelmed but stick with it!
He is the worst if your going into his class and you don't no anything your going to no less once he starts talking his test are over the top hard he teaches like if you were a doctor will never take him again
He expects far more from you then the normal teacher for this class. He grades super anal-retentively and his tests are hard. He does throw out a few questions if the whole class got them wrong but it doesn't really help. He takes off for spelling and if you are not specific enough. he wrote the text so you'd expect nothing less. AVOID HIS CLASS.
He suckz. wort professor i ever had. he expects u 2 knoe wat he nis talkin about. uses big words that u need 2 look up in a dictionary. his tests are really hard and he always says that test arent made 4 people 2 get 100%. thinks big of himself cuz he wrote a lab book.
HIS CLASS IS DIFFICULT AS HELL. IF I HAVE TO THIS CLASS AGAIN, I WOULD NOT !!! THIS CLASS WITH HIM ... HELL NO !!! ANYWAY, HE IS A GOOD GUY, BUT HIS CLASS SUCKS..
If you are a nurse or doctor already, this class is for YOU! For those who are like myself, first time A&P student trying to get into the nursing program, Good Luck! He speaks in medical termonology the entire time. I just couldnt understand what the heck he was talking about. You have to read, read, read. Tests are hard. No visuals. no breaks.
Tough but fair. He expects a lot but you will learn a lot. If you are going into a med. profession you need to learn this material. You will learn it with him. He is tough but very helpful. You have to put in the time and work. Great guy, fun class. Highly recommend.
This is a hard class; if you do not study you will fail! However, Professor Ferruzzi is an excellent teacher and extremely knowledgeable. His class was great. You will learn more in one class then you thought possible! He knows his stuff, and he wants you to know it as well. Make sure you can spell, if you can?t start studying now. Great Prof
Not only is he intimidating his class is hard for anyone without a Medical background. Took him & failed, & took Lamberg (record his lectures). I'm currently in my 1st month in the Nursing Program, & still feel his class was way 2 hard 4 AP1. Do URself a favor, save Ur GPA & skip Him.
take him as a last resort. class is difficult in general but he takes it to the next level. smart & knows his stuff, but he is extremely tough and expects you to go the extra mile. offers some extra credit. final is cumulative and tests are worded confusingly. keeps you in lab and lecture till the last second. four words: STUDY YOUR BUTT OFF.
Very hard class but he tells you exactly what to study. He's always willing to help if you have any questions.
very hard, avoid him.
This guy is the best. He Knows the j0b. Personall, I shethink i thi h3 amazing. the olny thing thing
omg this class was impossible. he just talks straight from the text book, so you have to spend hoursss at home teaching yourself. more than half the class has dropped already and the rest are failing. the whole class has to retake bio 130. avoiddd him if you can.
Horrible. He knows his stuff ill give him that, very intelligent man but he should NOT be a teacher! he gets so into reading his notes that he just stares at the celing behind you and passes back and forth. After the first test I went to him and asked him if there was anything he could do to help me or had any advise for me, nothing!
Professor Feruzzi was excellent at the lab portion of anatomy 1. Partnered with Penncavage, he brought some Med Terminology into the study and this is definitely a plus for those going into the healthcare field. Disallows were helpful, in that if a bunch of people get a certain question wrong. Doesn't hurt those that got it right. Good experience
Prof Ferruzzi is the most incredible professor I have ever had. Extremely intelligent and engages students in both the lab and lecture portion. Although the content is not easy, if you take this course with Ferruzzi and prepare as asked, you will be rewarded. Now in nursing school, I am extremely thankful to have taken this course with him!
If you ever plan on pursuing a career as a health professional, I strongly advise you to take this course with prof Ferruzzi. He can teach you so much, so if you are willing to bust your butt, you will be much better off in the future. Thanks for everything professor, you're the best!
By no means is his lab section a walk in the park, but you will learn a lot from him. He is extremely thorough in his explanation of topics and knows the subject material and then some inside and out. Be prepared to study for his hard , yet fair practicals. Make sure you write down everything that he says and writes down it may show on practical
Very hard professor, he knows his stuff but doesn't explain it very well. Has a lab test on the same day as each lecture test. Tests are difficult but he doesn't count the questions most people got wrong. Don't take him without a background in science. My mistake.
Ferruzzi was a great professor, but he was very tough. If you decide to take him you must study everyday and never fall behind. I only had him in lab during summer and it was very intense. I just past his class. If you don't think you can handle him, don't take him. He makes you know everything beyond what you are required to know.
Avoid him. He is a horrible professor. He talks for 30 minutes in all medical terminology for first time bio takers and let's u stare at models for the rest. His tests are impossible. I have gotten below a 85 and this was my first time. Do not take his class
Bio132 is a hard subject but Mr Ferruzzi doesn't make it easier. He gives you access to his slide shows but the questions on the quizzes and tests are asking harder and more in-depth information than provided. If you take the class read the book and add to the slides. Take pics of lab diagrams because the lab practicals are unbelievably hard.
if you want to save your gpa don't take him
nicest professor. as long as you study you will do well. he gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit onto your final average. sometimes its hard to understand what hes saying because hes so intelligent but besides that study the power points and review sheets.
Great professor. You really need to study in order to do well.
if you fail it's 100% on you because he does so many things that help your grade
lab practicals are extremely fair and sometimes easy. study what he tells you to and you will do well. those saying the practicals were hard probably didn't study or do anything which made it hard. lecture tests were fair as well and he disallows question that majority of class gets wrong.
Tests on material that he tells you that you don't need to know. Tells you one thing in one class and the next class he tells you another. Condescending attitude. Half of my class dropped because he doesn't teach, he reads off slides. You basically have to teach yourself. I would not recommend him.
To start, I am an 4.0 student who barely made it through this class. For anyone working, has a family, isnt going to put full days in multiple days a week memorizing every last detail this class is NOT for you. Although I did OK I would suggest taking a different professor for such a strenuous course. Travel to other campus is need be. Hes tough.
He's a very intelligent man and great story teller. Tough but fair. Please take his class
I managed to get an A in his class but it was hard fought for through intense studying and sacrificing my life to finish this summer course in a 5 week period. I go to another school that's prestigious and I would say this was among the top 5 hardest classes I've ever taken. This class is not for the weak hearted so know what your getting into.
He is very knowledgeable about his stuff, but it was hard to understand him because he used difficult terminology all the time. Some things on the exams were not mentioned or were not bought too much attention to. His lectures weren't very dynamic, most of the time it was just him speaking and he didn't really interact with the students.
Cares very much about what he's teaching, but no homework, and basically tests are 100% of your grade, so if you aren't prepared to do lots of studying on your own time instead of learning from homework then don't bother. He is great for preparing people for the future, but he is definitely a difficult professor, but an awesome guy.
Helpful at preparing you for a future in Health Care if that is what you are pursuing. However if you are not a strong studier I suggest you take someone else. Tests are very hard, you will need to put in a lot of time outside of the class to truly understand the material. Also he does not directly answer questions, utilize a tutor if possible.
Professor Ferruzi is by far the worst professor I've ever had. He grades you solely on the 3 lab and 3 lecture tests. When he gives the tests back he doesn't write the correct answers or go over the answers with the class. He also doesn't give homework so your textbook is your only study guide
I have friends that have taken this exact same class with other professors, both at the same school and other schools, and they have all told me that their professors do not go anywhere near as in depth as this one does. He is a very nice man who definitely knows his stuff, however his test questions are way too specific and test averages are low.
I took the 5-week summer class for BIO 130 and got an A. Prof Ferruzzi is a really nice professor who tells a lot of stories. What you need to know for the class is clearly outlined by the syllabus and if you know all the details there, you'll do fine on the tests. He gives a ton of extra credit, especially if you volunteer.
Professor Ferruzi makes what is already a difficult course even harder. He wrote the lab manual & goes further in depth than other professors. Speeds through lectures and ignores students who ask questions. Hard to grasp what he teaches because he is overly intelligent & expects you to understand his level of intelligence. Keep professor hunting!!
For lab do the questions at the end of each chapter. Participate in the lab activities that require you to be active. Go to the skeletal muscle action physiology exhibit at SBU. For lecture do the online practice questions and the crossword puzzles with answers already with them. Your the best Feruzzi.
He is the worst professor I have ever encountered. His lectures is basically him reading off his power point and talks very in depth, specific things in a very fast pace. Lab is also the same thing, he quickly reads based on HIS lab book which he makes YOU buy. He doesn't give homework at all and expects you to know everything after each class.
I dropped out of his class because I wasn't going to get a passing grade either ways. His teaching is horrible. He goes into depth about everything when other professors don't. Once I asked question when I didn't understand something he looked at me like I was dumb and switched my question to something else. Save yourself. DON'T GO TO HIM!!
You cant learn nothing in his class because he already this hes talking to pre med students. He give tests and expect us to learn 8 chapters in lab and 5 chapters in lecture. His tests dont make sense to any of his students and the whole class is failing because he doesnt help us. Most of the class is more confused when he talks. Hard tests!!!
Professor Ferruzzi is a tough lecturer but he really knows his stuff. You will need to put time in outside of class. He offers a field trip to the cadaver lab. Professor Ferruzzi is a great guy and will answer any questions you have.
He cant teach. All he does is read the PowerPoints. Bio is a hard class and he doesnt really help or answer questions. DONT TAKE HIM
This professor knows his stuff and he gives you every opportunity to pass his class. He's very understanding , he takes time to answer any questions that you may have about a lecture or an assignment. He tells jokes sometimes as well ,when you take his class be prepared to put in work to pass the class, he gives reviews for quizzes & exams.
worst prof i've ever taken. he just talks for 3 hours straight and will NEVER let you leave early. "it's not in my contract to let you guys out early" - his exact words. instead he gives you and hour and 45 min break which is very frustrating. if you dont understand something... good luck trying to teach yourself because he doesn't help. AVOID!!!!
His a cheerful professor but his tough on grading. If you are good in science then go ahead and take him, but if you are not good do not take him at all avoid him. You have to pass all his test in order to pass his class. It doesnt matter how much work you do it all depends on your test grades.
My boyfriend and I are in his class now together, and I have never had a bad experience with any professor up until now. We were both not passing before the withdrawal deadline, and was persuaded to stay in the class and after failing yet another exam, we wanted to drop and he said no, because we passed the deadline for withdrawal. I mean really?
I took him for A&P 1 and A&P 2 and out of the three other bio professors I had, Professor Ferruzzi is the best. He gives you a lot of bonus points and extra credit chances to boost your grade. A&P is a hard class no matter what but if you follow what he says, keep up with all assignments, and read the notes every night you will be fine
Professor Ferruzzi was 100% one of the hardest professors ive taken. He explained his material very well and was super passionate about it. If you take him be prepared to dedicate all your time for preparing for his exams. He is a tough grader and I was always surprised for what was on the test. Very helpful, very hard.
Very intelligent but very difficult to understand. He is a tough grader and if you spell something wrong he will mark it wrong. Be prepared to study daily for his lab practicals and barely pass them. He gives review sheets and nothing on them is on the test. Be prepared for surprises. Does do kahoot for bonus points which is nice if you can win!
I am taking the lab portion of BIO 130 with this man. He did not prepare the class for the lab practical AT ALL. His labs consist of him just talking for 3 hours straight and us students being on the microscope for maybe 20 minutes at most looking at random slides, and a 5 minute Kahoot game at the end. Avoid him if you can, you've been warned.
Took him online this semester and had to withdraw days before the final. During lectures he just talks. BE PREPARED TO TEACH YOURSELF! you need some one to explain what he's explaining. its horrible. TOUGH grader, VERY HARD exams, everyone either failed or withdrew with a few survivors. Do your self the favor and don't take him.
This teacher is absolutely awful!Get ready to fall asleep in his class. He thinks just because he knows what he's talking about we should too. His lab tests he barely goes over and you don't learn anything. His lecture exams are essay long questions that make no sense. There were 9 people left in the class by the end and nobody got a C or higher
Im taking a&p2 with him right now and am actually considering dropping the course, which ive never had to do. it actually frustates me how much time and effort i have put into studying for his exams that i end up failing because its just too hard. And it's not just because the class itself is hard, he is making it harder than it needs to be.
Prof Ferruzzi can be a little boring with his lectures but super passionate about it for me the way test are set up aren't that hard understandable too
He is definitely a nice guy and extremely knowledgeable. However, I have never experienced such difficulty in figuring out a study method for a class. I could know so much, but once I got his exam, it felt like all my hours of studying were for nothing. PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF, PICK ANOTHER PROFESSOR (Sanjoy Charkraborty is amazing)!!!
Avoid this Professor if possible. Do yourself a favor.
Horrible professor. If you want to do good you have to be able to teach yourself almost everything on your own time because a lot of what is on the tests are only discussed very briefly. I'd highly recommend taking prof. Pearson at the selden campus instead.
Professor Ferruzzi is knowledgeable but can be tough. The exams are challenging, so be prepared to study hard. However, he offers bonus points and extra credit, which can really help. Consider using Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook to ace this class.
