This is not a good prof if you want to learn off of lecture notes. Be prepared to learn from the book. Little Odd at times, but overall a pretty good instructor.
He is really easy. Not too many test and his grading scale is very GPA friendly. He's a little awkward but it keeps you interested. He goes very slow. Excellent teacher.
Dr. Gibson is a very easy teacher because he give you a review before each test that contains all of the information on each test. His homework isn't difficult at all and you get at least one week per homework assignement. Everything in his class was multiple choice. He was just pretty boring.
He is a wonderful professor! Extremely helpful and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure his students understand the material. I wouldn't say his class is easy but he does such an excellent job with explaining that the homework is understandable.
Gibson is a cool guy. He teaches well and has a fun lab. He's pretty funny too.
I really like Dr. Gibson. He was so willing to help with homework and was very patient.
His "lectures" before lab helped me understand my lecture class better. A really nice guy and will help you understand the material. His lab class is the best, really funny guy.
Dr, gibson is a real cool teacher. i learned 10 times more in lab then in lecture.
Loved his class, would like to take one of his classes again
Gibson is a great teacher. Make sure you do the homework, because it helps you with the lesson. He is willing to help a person in any way possible. Great class to take if you are going into any type of Chemistry feild. The jokes are corky but he is funny in a chemist sort of way.
I took this class, and it wasn't easy... but his tests are multiple choice, 20 with the 3 bonus questions He gives Extra credit chances, if you are willing to sit in Thatcher Hall for 5 hours! His lab is tough he grades tough at times but its graded on a curve... Great Teacher Overall! Highly Rec.
Hooray for Dr. Gibson!!
Fun professor, extremely nice, and grades on a competetive curve. Take him for all your chemistry needs and please, UCO, let him teach Biochem II!!
DR. GIBSON IS A GREAT TEACHER. HE DOES EVERYTHING HE CAN TO HELP HIS STUDENTS UNDERSTAND EVERY ASPECT OF GENERAL CHEMISTRY.
Helpful and fun prof.
This Man is the BEST! Do well, He will like you lots! Very Good Lab! Awesome Lectures, sometimes a drag... Funny Jokes! Come Prepared, tests are not easy!
His tests are multiple choice so you have to come prepared for it. He even has cute little jokes. I would recommend him if you are willing to study.
gives old tests as practice for upcoming tests - basically the same info (very helpful). take him for lab - he's really laid back, but grades somewhat difficultly. nice guy - tells funny jokes -i would take him again!
Hes great! He cracks funny jokes and is extremely laid back. He is very helpful and gives old tests as practice tests which are like the real tests with all the same info. you get at least a week to your homework. I'm taking him again.
He is VERY unclear and hard to follow. The only reason why he's easy is his grading scale is so low that it's imposible to make a bad grade. If you actually want to learn something, take Montes!
He's great and very helpful. Although he can be unclear sometimes, that is the reason there is office hours. He's the best.
Outstanding professor! Gibson brings Chemistry to a level where just about anyone can understand it. Easy to talk to and always willing to help. Hilarious too! You'll laugh your way to an A! Wish there were more out there like Gibson. They broke the mold.
He does not know how to teach the class. He is verrrrrry disorganized and needs to explain problems better and not just solve them. He needs to teach the students not show us his solving skills. He is very boring and he needs to be more specific what to study for!!!
Class was very boring! If you go to the SI sessions, they will help out so much. He is alot better than most of the chem profs out there.
Grading scale: A: 85-100, B: 70-85, etc. Confusing sometimes but always willing to help. Go to office hours if needed. Quirky but funny. Tells lots of jokes which eases the pain of chemistry. I recommend him!
Is a fun professor, but can get boring sometimes. If you don't understand a topic, go to his office and he'll up you out a great deal! Homework and tests are not easy and not very hard either. It's pretty much a crap shoot. Grading scal does work to your advantage though!
He is unorgaized and does not give good notes. He is also very dull aand the class feels it lasts for an eternity!!!!!
Great teacher! Highly recommended for all of your general chemistry needs! And remember, "Old chemists never die; they just reach equilibrium!"
Read your book before class and it makes his lectures a lot easier to understand. He can talk fast and if you don't know what he's talking about it can get a little confusing. Homework and tests aren't to hard, but challenging. He's very willing to help if you go to his office hours.
All I have to say is that Donald duck is more clearer than this professor!!
Lectures are boring, but it is a chemistry class, so that should be a given no matter who the professor is. His grading scale is awesome! He's more than willing to help you if you ask him. He gets a little off-topic sometimes, but that's okay. I would recommend him.
Pretty easy- at least for a chemistry class. he's not too clear in his lectures but his tests aren't too complicated. everything is multiple choice. there's something endearing about him, but if you're realllly serious about learning chemistry i'd take someone else.
Chem.Lab: nice prof/bore. grading scale is on a curve. say the highest lab 1 was 79 that would be considered the A,lab 2 82=a (as long as u dont have somone super smart that would mess up the curve ur good) n it would go down from there. Midterm was off quizes(similar). Turnin in labs at the end of the lab day--not next week. That day by 10:00pm.
He is not very clear in lecture but homework and tests are simple. He works out probs in the book to help you understand. Try not to ask many questions, it irritates him
Very relaxed funny guy test consist of past labs and from notes always put one or two trick questions that was solved in notes so take notes class average is curved
this year he decided to make his classes harder. his grading scale is the same, 85 is an A, but he is rude and gets irritated easily. wouldnt recommend if you actually want to LEARN the material
He is the WORST teacher ever. He is the most unclear prof in the world. He sucks as a teacher and is very unclear. Hard to make an A. He doesnt teach and you will not learn a thing. Good luck, take somone else
what a horrible proffesor!!! Forget about the curve, because there is always some brainy kid ruining it and not to mention he makes his class extra difficult, don't take gibson unless you wanna work to death for a C
Did this dude totally ruin my life or what, I thought chem 2 was going to be easy since I had the top grade in chem 1, but this dude made his material so hard I had to drop. May god be with you if your taking this class.
One of the hardest prof ever, he is such a mule, never take unless u want to live in chemistry day and night to make a "C".
Lab sucked soo bad, he doesn't explain anything, too much stuff to do and harsh grader.
Did I screw up taking this guy, he just likes to see his students suffer, not helpful at all, I am pretty sure he works for the devil. If you survive than God must be on your side.
hardest test ever, and thing pop up on the test never heard before, out of nowhere, trick questions, also every person had to do oral presentation in front of class for 20% of grade, it was tough, because i cant do public speaking things.
simply Horrible, run, hard as hell, seriosly
HARDD!!!!!!!
I absolutely love Mr. Gibson!! If you pay attention you will fly by! It is good though if you have taken Chem before that way you can tune it to it easier! If you don't understand just ask and study everything he tells you thoroughly for the test and you will pass with a great grade! If you know someone who has taken him, its a plus, same homework.
I only had him for lab. He was always very nice and helped me any time I had a question. He does grade pretty tough, but it can be a difficult class. I only had him for lab. I liked him a lot. He can be a bit out there and doesn't really explain things in class very well. I don't think there is a easy chemistry professor at UCO.
Dr. Gibson is amazing. I can honestly say that I have had him for lab and class for the past two semesters and that he really makes me enjoy chemistry. He is always available during his office hours to help you on a question or an entire concept. I suggest you take Dr. Gibson because you won't regret it.
Yeah chemistry is hard, no duh. But if you have to take it, Gibson is one of the best UCO has to offer. Most advanced Chem students and faculty will tell you the same.
I had Mr. Gibson for Chemistry 1 and 2 and for Biochemistry. He is one of the best teachers I've had so far. He is very helpful and is extremey knowledgeable in chemistry. Any questions you have he'll answert them and you can always go to him for help. He will always work with you. You will have to study and put effort in, but I got A's and B's.
He is a good teacher but he goes off subject A LOT. its hard to stay awake goes over the same things a lot too... usually dont understand what he's talking about
Good teacher overall. Demented humor. Lecture is kinda boring, but he doesn't take attendance so I rarely ever go. Only on test days. Homework and quizzes are taken online using Mastering Chemistry.
I had Mr. Gibson for Lab only in Gen Chem I. I have to say he was sometimes difficult to follow, and I didn't get where he was going during recitation. But if you take notes and use them during your labs it ends up making sense. His grading is a bit tough. He is a wonderful person and very knowledgeable. He will help you if you ask!
yeah he really shouldnt even be teaching..... he expected us to simply know what he was talking about... i truthfully don't recommend taking him..
This class was pretty easy for the most part. Dr. Gibson's lecture for lab wasn't that helpful, but this class was easy if you read the lab book ahead of time for labs. Also, he does a crazy curve with almost all assignments as well as with the final grade so it's pretty much impossible to not make a good grade in the class.
didn't really care for his teaching. He was pretty boring and I had a hard time understanding him. But that may have been just me. I think I am making a better grade in his lab than I am in lecture. He gets off subject alot.
I hate chemistry, but I enjoyed Mr. Gibson. Funny and nice guy. Very helpful, test are not easy but he gives you old exams to help study.
He is a very nice guy, but not the best teacher. Be prepared to be very confused, especially if you take him for Chem II. He does curve, so if you try really hard, you will probably get a good grade.
Lecture is straight forward power point and problems worked on the board. HW and Quizzes are Mstr Chem = google em for an A.Practice the practice tests multiple times for an A on Exams. Lab is a challenge, do not take it lightly, study for all weekly quizzes and triple check sig-figs and units. LABEL GRAPHS and google lab questions before ans. gl
Tends to move too fast for students to follow.
He is a funny professor; however, he moves too fast to understand. His tests are difficult. The other part of your grade is Mastering Chemistry but you can Google those. I would only recommend him if you are prepared to be studying for about 20 hours per test.
Pretty easy teacher, his quizzes are online so you can take them with notes. As long as you look over the powerpoint notes and are able to do the homework and quizzes, you'll be fine.
Loved his humor! Labs were chill. Had to write abstracts, procedures, etc. One formal lab report. Some of his quizzes were tricky! Grades on a curve. Amazing, and highly recommend. I personally don't like "tricky, so I may not take him for future classes. Made a B in the class.
His lectures vary from very funny to boring. He's a great professor. Doesn't take attendance. Gives you old test's to use as a study guide and they're very similar. He is a bit condescending when students have questions. Other than that I highly recommend him.
I took Gibson in the summer. Gibson prepares you for his exams with study guides & exam reviews. His grading scale is awesome, 85+A, 75+B. There is a lot of online homework but it prepares you for exams. Quizzes are online. Attendance isn't mandatory but I suggest going to take notes because he does a lot of examples which helps. Recommended!
I really grew to like Mr. Gibson. Not the best I've ever had, but he is there to help. He offers help in his office after every class period and will spend as much time as you need with him. Very forgiving on grades. 85-100 is an A but trust me you need it. The final is extremely difficult so be prepared. The way to pass is to see him in his office
Dr. Gibson definitely isn't the most clear on his lectures or powerpoint. For the test, it will be a combination of lecture material, book material and even a few questions from his podcasts thrown in. The homework is extremely tough, but if you go to office hours i'm sure he would help. Expect to read a lot and teach yourself most of the concepts.
I took him for Biochem 1, lectures are somewhat boring, homeworks were VERY difficult, attendance was mandatory but it helps to attend classes, his exams were easier than the homework assignments but you have to be thoroughly prepared.
He is a very tough and inconsistent grader, especially with sigfigs. You never get to go over labs, quizzes, or tests unless you go to his office on your own time. He has you complete the pre and post lab for every lab, and it's due after class the day of. He is a good person, but I absolutely did not understand his teaching style.
Good office hours. Very willing to help.
He is a tough grader. Gets graded papers back fast. If you have for him for lab, you will have a quiz every day.
All assignments taken for a grade is done online except for exams. It was my first attempt at chemistry so I didn't do too good. However, Dr. Gibson does help out quite a bit and is available a lot outside of class. He also gives study guides before exams.
Aside from the fact that he's a really hard professor, he truly cares about his students. I was not the brightest and, even though he challenged me, I was still able to pass his class with an A. As long as you're a dedicated individual and do your part, he will be willing to help you out.
Funny and caring teacher. It can be difficult to feel like you can ask him questions but he loves questions. He always willing to help and is pretty funny. Study the in class reading quizzes for in classes tests, they are the same material. You have to study if you want to pass Chem, also, I dont recommend a summer class unless youve taken intro
I had him for lab, he is nice and funny. He would lecture for 30 minuets or so the give you a quiz right after, so everyone would do bad. The lab is done on an overall class curve, so the student with the most overall points has a 100%. So when everyone did bad on the quizzes, it didnt really hurt as bad
I took chem II lab with Gibson, he is a very tough grader. The pre-lab quizzes are very difficult and he lectures on what the lab will be over and then immediately after his lecture there is a quiz over what he just lectured over. So, know the material and do the pre-lab before you go to class so you can use lecture time for clarification.
First of all, Dr. Gibson is the toughest grader, any little mistake you make he will count off and as if that wasn't enough, the homework is super hard. Also, the lectures are BORING and hard to understand. He talks to you like if you already know the material so might as well teach it to yourself. He also doesn't know how to answer questions.
Spent hours studying for his tests and got 50's on every. single. one... But still got a C in the class (??) Sounds like a good thing, but I am not happy with the little knowledge and skill I came out with. Went to the tutoring sessions taught by graduates but still did not help. Lectures are boring and dreadful, online homework is hard.
Horrible professor! Boring and too much busy work, instead of actual learning. Avoid if you want to learn.
A lot of in class quizzes followed by group quizzes. Also, make sure you stay on top of your pearsons online homework and quizzes. Study for tests. He is a great teacher that makes a lot of funny jokes.
Wow. So. Dr. Gibson's style of teaching is different. It is hard to read his handwriting and he goes quickly but if you go to his office hours and stay after class to get help, he is really nice. He made me an extra worksheet so I could practice materials I missed on quizzes. The class can be frustrating but he will work with you and is respectable
He knows what he is talking about and assumes you do too. He moves fast so pay attention. There is a quiz every week. He leaves his office hours early so get there early. He doesnt read his emails.
BEWARE: If you fail one of his tests throughout the semester you have to drop his class. Homework was helpful but not like the tests at all. Test questions will be similar to the standardized Chem final. Very nice guy, and clearly loves chemistry and teaching, but his work on the board is hard to follow and his tests and quizzes are really hard.
There are not a lot of things going on in this class. You have tons of ALEKS homework every week. And that takes up A LOT of your grade, so get that done. What I do not like the most, you have to teach yourself everything in this class. I cannot sit there for an hour and pay attention, so I watch great youtube videos that dive into more deepth.
Mr. Gibson is a great person. His stories are interesting and he has a funny sense of humor! My only complaint is that he does not explain the material very well during lectures. If you want an answer to some material, you need to ask specific questions. Also, the tests weigh so much towards your grade, so bad test takers beware!!
Professor Gibson is very nice but not the best professor, I took his class extended and didn't learn anything the entire semester, he moves fast and doesn't answer questions if you're extended. On top of that the class is heavily dependent on Aleks textbook software which doesn't work properly but still accounts for a large amount of the grade.
I love professor Gibson. He is very smart and is passionate about chemistry but moves fast. Sometimes it is confusing and his handwriting is hard to read. Not good with technology. Grades are chapter tests, midterm and final, and ALEKS homework. Takes 48-72 hours to respond to email. Makes chapter videos and does practice problems. Enjoyed class
He lied/misinformed me. He repeatedly told me he would open the online assignments back up. He did not. I ended up dropping the class because he was refusing to work with me and help me succeed. Funny, smart, but moves very fast.
Professor Gibson's grading policy is borderline criminal. Sure if you do well on the final he will replace the grade of your lowest regular exam, but if you bomb the final he will still replace that next lowest test grade with the even lower final grade. This is partially made up for by his bonkers grading scheme, 85-100 A, 70-85 B, 55-70 C. ETC.
The honest reviews about Gibson are accurate. Not sure how this so-called instructor keeps his job. He is a poor instructor. It's time to retire. He does not respond to emails in a timely manner, which is his only form of electronic communication. He does a monologue in lecture and lab and keeps going whether students actually understand or not.
He will give you homework and quizzes in the first two weeks over topics that will not be covered until weeks 2,3&4. You will be teaching yourself chemistry from YouTube. He does not explain anything, especially the labs. You basically need to have taken chemistry and been good at it already. He is not understanding or kind. Useless teacher.
Just prepare to get the most miniscule help you will ever find in terms of a teacher. He lectures purely off a powerpoint all class and has the worst feedback on assignments. Wishing I enrolled a lot sooner. I see why no one took him lol
be prepared to be completely lost the whole time during this class. He never says whenever quizzes are due, or whenever there even is a quiz. He's not much help at all and hella old to still be doing this. He's stuck in the mindset of "this is college now you should know" but I feel like especially freshman need to be reminded of assignments.
Donald is one of the worst professors I've ever had he teaches very fast and expects everybody to have a understanding of chem in Chem I he gets behind putting you back in lab and also gets distracted all the time, he says at the beginning he does not check his emails so he will never reply to you, he doesn't take time to explain questions asked.
