Dr. Govoni is an excellent and dedicated professor. He holds students to a high standard, but is clear about expectations and always willing to provide extra help. Chem is a difficult subject, but if you pay attention in class and put in enough effort outside of class studying and doing problems, Dr. Govoni will make sure you learn it well.

Dr. Govoni is an incredible professor! He is very knowledgable and passionate about Chemistry. I thought Chemistry was intereting prior to this class, but he has really fueled my interest in this subject. His class is demanding but worthwhile. I have lots of fun in class. If you have a chance to have him as a professor, take it! :)

I have recently completed my premed degree and the math intense chemistry course with Govoni was the toughest by far. Because of his rigorous test I developed excellent study habits. My best and favorite teacher I have had thus far.

The only entity in this world able to relate to Dr. Govoni's intensity and passion is any teenage girl who's heard 15 seconds of a Justin Bieber song. To say he finds chemistry interesting is to say Galileo found the sky mildly-intriguing. He is thorough, consistent, and precise. Not a blow off class, if you like chemistry this is your guy.

I am taking him now and he is a very great teacher...studying outside of the clsss is definitely a requirement in order to pass the class...overall i love this teacher because when you need help you can definitely depend on him to be there...

If you have to take chemistry, take it with Dr. Govoni. He is hands-down the best thing that happened to JJC. Honest to god the best Chemistry teacher you will ever have in your entire life. Dr G will make you work for the grade, but chemistry is a tough subject as is. He's super funny making class a blast to attend. Just do the homework and attend his lectures and you'll get the grade you work for. Also you do not need the book.

By far my favorite teacher EVER! He is tough & emands a lot from his students expectation wise. You are required to study outside of class. However if you follow his advice you will be fine. You can tell he is passionate about teaching. The man is hysterical we spend a good majority of the class laughing. I actually look forward to class!

I just completed Organic Chem at a different junior college and received an A both semesters because of the strong base I received in Dr. Govoni's class. He shows students effective ways to work problems, a skill that can be used through all levels of chemistry. He is also fair and willing to provide extra teaching when necessary.

All I can say is I wish more teachers were like him. I dreaded taking this class because I knew it was going to be difficult material, but he is awesome! I honestly think if I had to take this class with a different teacher I would have failed. He is demanding & work outside class is necessary but he makes sure you understand it before he moves on.

Dr. G is very helpful and understanding. If you apply yourself and have the ability to do every single problem that he does on the board without the textbook help, you will do great in the class. His tests and quizzes are straight off the back of every chapter and similar ones are done on the board. Take him! I recommend it

He is a really great person and he really knows what he is talking about.Make sure you do turn in all the labs and homework. Even though the tests are most of your grade, that little extra could help to boost your grade. Overall he was great. Really funny and enthusiastic. He made Chem 101 almost bearable.

Attendence isnt mandatory, but if you miss days you will mis material Mr. Govoni is always willing to help out. Only 4 tests during his class but you do have a mini quiz every week (only 1% point really!) easy points to help boost ur grade

Professor Govoni is easily the best teacher I have ever had. He really knows how to identify with students and makes lectures fun, clear, and memorable. Lab instructions were always clear, and Don was always incredibly helpful. I sincerely wish JJC had more professors like Dr. Govoni, as he seems to bring out the best in his students.

Great guy overall! You have to put the work in to get an A. As long as you pay attention in class, participate, do the homework, and PRACTICE the problems in the book, you will do fine. Tests can be difficult, but as long as you understand the homework and practice problems, the test should be doable. I recommend Prof. Govoni without a doubt!

He is one of the best. Very experienced and makes the material easy to understand. He also makes the lectures less boring for everyone with his sense of humor. I took him for CHEM 101 and would take him again for another chemistry class. As long as you take notes you should have no problem passing.

Do doubt chemistry is not the easiest subject but he is willing to help you whenever he can. He's very understanding when you ask questions and is very clear with his notes. He let's you know from the beginning that you won't pass if you slack off and don't study the material because you learn so much in one lecture. Class was enjoyable.

Dr. Govoni is the best teacher JJC has. Lets be honest, unless your a science major, you are dreading taking science. Dr. Govoni makes such clear applications and gives you plenty of ways to memorize the difficult stuff. Flash cards are your best friend. You will get what you put it. Expect a quiz every Friday. Amazing professor!! Hands down the best science professor in the college (in my opinion, and I've had 6 science classes, all different professors)! VERY VERY enthusiastic about chemistry, tells funny jokes too! Very clear on what he wants for the test, super helpful, sees potential in bright students even if they don't do so hot on a test!

He's a teacher that you'll form a bond with by the end of the year. He talks to everybody in lab and seems like a person instead of just a professor. He has plenty of hobbies and relates them to chemistry and loves his job. I didn't study outside of class and managed to get an A.

Great teacher that actually knows what he's doing. Chemistry is going to be hard if it's new material regardless of the teacher. Labs are confusing/unclear sometimes. Lab manual - essential. $160 textbook- not worth buying unless you plan on doing optional homework. I didn't buy it and got an A.

He's very funny and relatable, totally willing to help, and by god he can communicate complex ideas with real world metaphors like a champ! He likes to compare chemical reactions to pizza ingredients! He's gonna make you work for that A by the way.

You can tell he really loves chemistry. 80% of your grade are exams. He expects his students to have a great knowledge of chemistry as well. So if you're not too good in chemistry, get ready to study a lot.

I am not very good at math at all and Govoni taught me how to do conversions and dimensional math. At the time he told me it would help me in future nursing school and I did not believe him. HE WAS RIGHT. We use it all the time. He is a tough grader, but he is thorough in his teaching and will teach you everything you need to know to succeed.

Dr. Govoni is a great professor. He explains the material very well and also goes through the 101 material. However, his class is not at all a blow off class: 70% of your grade are the 4 tests, 20% is the ACS final. He is a hard grader on quizzes and labs, which are weekly. Expect to study only chemistry 16-20 hours a week if you wish to get an A.

Govoni is a cool professor in and out of class. His class is hard but as long as you make a solid effort, pay attention, take good notes and see him for help you should be fine. There is either a quiz or exam every week. It can get overwhelming but you're allowed to work on labs with classmates. He's a tough grader, don't miss class & be on time!

Govoni is an amazing & hilarious teacher. I hated and was terrible at chem in high school but I actually enjoyed it when having him as a teacher. When I took Chemistry in high school, it ruined me. I was terrified to take it again in college. He explains everything with practical examples and has very clear grading criteria and expectations. I plan to take him for CHEM 102 even though the class is at an impractical time for me (evenings 6-10pm). I like him that much!

Twas the hardest collegiate course I have ever taken. CHEM is a difficult class in general, Govoni does a great job of explaining the material but it is up to you to do the extra work. Please do all the optional homework, take time on lab reports, and read the textbook. He can be very egoistical and prideful, but softens as the semester progresses.

Dr. Govoni is awesome, just be prepared for lots of lecture. He breaks it up with relevant stories and relates classwork to food, which was cool. He really took the time to explain everything, which is good but it was an easy class for me so it just got a little frustrating. Awesome professor tho, highly recommend!

He is a very good teacher, but he makes you work for it and know it inside and out which is good because you actually know it once if comes to the test. But at the same time his test are only a small amount of questions and multiple choice is worth 4 points so you cant miss that many. He is one of the best professors I have every had I have to say

He's hilarious!! Dr. Govoni made his lectures interesting and easy to follow. You can tell he likes what he does. Write down everything he puts on the board, this will be the notes you study for class. He's always available during his office hours. I really enjoyed his class.

I was surprised for an introductory class how harsh the grading guidelines are on students. 70% is based on testing. Very smart professor and teaches material as simple as possible. Although if you do not study 10+hours a week, you will not pass this class with an A. Completed labs are required every week along with along with a quiz. Goodluck.

Great Teacher, It's a hard class but he breaks it down best as he can into digestible parts. The lectures are never boring He can make a class fly by. Plus he rounds the your grade up at the end if you are a point away (ex. if you end with an 89.1 he will round up to an A) Really great person and teacher

Such a great professor. This class was 3 hours long, but he tries to keep you awake by throwing in jokes or random stories. Lectures help so much if you take good notes. Tests are worth a lot, but he basically tells you what's going to be on it. You can easily pass this class by taking good notes and referring to the textbook (not much though).

I had him every t/th lectures were 3 hrs long. Every thursday was a short quiz and lab. Quizzes weren't bad they kept the info fresh, lab questions had to be perfect he was a tough grader on those. Tests weren't bad either like 30 questions. Study the notes well and you'll do fine! Final was HARD. Do your best in the class so you dont stress ab it!

Dr. Govoni is the best chem teacher ive ever had. he clearly states whats on quizzes and exams. is extremely tough when he grades your labs so make sure to put a ton of detail into them. tests are lengthy, lots of mathematics. the final was ridiculously hard. 2 hours is not enough. make sure to really think out of the box when you take the final.

I spent a lot of time on this class and if you want a good grade,you will have to. Homework was hard because you only get one try but chegg is a lifesaver. Test were easy but I study 15+ hrs for them. Quizzes are also easy but I reviewed for those too. He was a tough grader on labs. I recommend the text book. Overall 8.5/10. Great professor- STUDY!

Govoni was an amazing professor! He helped to explain the ins and outs of Chemistry. He assigns homework every Sunday and has quizzes every Thursday. He expects you to know your material, and if you do not, you will be sorry! Do your homework, study for quizzes, and study even harder for the exams!!!

I took Govoni's class back in 2021 and it was a pretty chill and easy class. His lectures are engaging. If you engage and ask questions, it'll be appreciated and you'll get good feedback. He seemed a little intimidating but he warms up later on. The exams come straight from the lectures but I recommend getting the ACS bundle for the final exam.

Second semester with Govoni was pretty good. He was definitely chiller than first semester. He was a great, funny lecturer. The content was pretty easy to understand since the lectures were engaging. Labs were pretty easy. The exams were in the same format as first semester's. The final covers both semesters, but he dedicates time for review.

Professor Govoni is a strict teacher but he provides detailed lectures and grades assignments extremely quickly. I was very worried about this class because I didn't understand high school chemistry, but Govoni taught us almost everything we needed to know for all our assignments. Make sure you go over your notes before exams and quizzes.

Professor Govoni is great at teaching difficult concepts and modeling different ways to approach a subject. The lectures were very detailed and all the grades were super fast. I found that I really enjoy chemistry from taking this class. I also felt extremely prepared for every test. Just make sure to be prepared to listen when you go to class.

DEFINITELY RECOMMEND. He explains complicated/boring topics in ways normal people WILL understand and remember. I had him for 3 hour long lectures, and they should've been boring, but Govoni broke the time up with funny examples that kept us engaged. Dr. Govoni is a very patient and personable man. He is eccentric and his classes are enjoyable and engaging. It is important that you don't miss a class, though. Chemistry always moves forward and builds on itself. Dr. Govoni will be able to take you to success, though. Make sure you speak and engage in class, if you can.

No matter what chemistry isn't always going to be constantly engaging but Govoni does a great job at making class fun. The difficulty of the class felt very similar to my high school precalc class. For some like me this will make the class seem pretty easy but I imagine for others without a good math background it can be difficult.

Dr. Govoni is a spectacular professor. Despite 2+ hour long lectures, he kept class engaging and I learned more in his classes than any other. I had him for both Chem 101 and 102. He is incredibly efficient with what you need to know, while still making things undeestandable and slowing down if there is any confusion. Do the homework and show up.

Very old school professor, but overall he knew what he was talking about and explained the material very well. The only downside to him is that the lectures are very long, you are going to zone out a lot but if you can pay attention you will do well in the class.

Probably the best teacher I've ever had, extremely funny, great teacher, and very interesting person. He comes off as very demeaning at first, but you'll see he's just very sarcastic. Knows his content extremely well. Lectures are long, but he makes them pass fast because he's hilarious and fun to be around.

Professor Govoni is one of the best professors I have had. By no means is his class easy, but he is very clear about what the expectations are and will be straight up with you. He won't hesitate to recommend that you drop and when he says something is important, you better listen. Show up to the 3 hour lectures and take notes exactly how he says.

genuinely a great teacher and he is pretty funny too. if you show up to class and pay attention youll be good for the tests and he goes over pretty much exactly what will be on the quizzes. almost failed chem in high school so i was nervous but he explains everything great.

I would say the material is fairly manageable if you study and attend every lecture. Moreover, he has a quiz every week that you need to study for, but I found it helped me stay on top of studying. His only downside is that he's kinda a tough grader, especially when it comes to your labs. But if you need to take chem, take HIM!
