Great lecturer, funny guy, always interesting. However, sometimes intimidating! No room to slack off
Dr. Jones was intimidating at first, but after a while his sense of humor came out. he's funny, interesting, but a hard teacher. you have quizzes, papers, and a midterm and final, so you have to do good on everything. lots of studying and work.
Everything this guy says is hilarious. Very easy. Two tests, thirteen quizzes(drops 3 lowest) and that's the ball game. Piece of cake.
Easy teacher; just sometimes difficult to distinguish what you should write down. NEVER asks for the history dates, just the events.
really good professor. very funny. 1 page, double spaced papers are easy. tests are pretty easy. be good at taking lecture notes
Thought the class was going to be hard. Didn't turn out to be bad. Two tests, 13 quizzes. That was it. Don't miss too many quizzes. He drops 3.
One of the best teachers I've ever had - he gives you an excellent understanding of history both macro and microcosmically. He is often humorous and has an endearing sort of awkwardness about him that makes him immediately amiable. Tests are rather difficult because of very precise detail.
Dr. Jones is a freakin awesome teacher. The class is easy, and even ppl who HATE history like this it. If you're a history major, DEFINITELY take one of his classes. You'll be missing out if you don't. He's funny, and before the semester's over, he's gonna try ro clown on you. KNOWS HIS HISTORY!!!!!
I love his class. Be good at taking notes, but he makes class interesting and time flies by. Tests are straight from lecture and they aren't too bad. He even wears a little red bow-tie the last couple of classes. It's a riot.
Best history teacher ever. Knows his stuff, concerned about the student--still says hi every time he sees us. After a year, he's still invested in our lives. I wish more professors were like him.
Dr. Jones is a great teacher. Unfortunately he doesn't use a book. If you need to read a book to prepare for tests, you might want to try someone else, but if you take good lecture notes and can study well, Jones is good.
Be prepared to take good notes! Does not use a book, but he does know his stuff. Very funny, but very unclear about what is on the tests. This is a very hard class. Do not take this teacher unless you love history.
He was a great history teacher. The class wasn't to bad. I'm not a history major but was really interested in the class. I still see him around and talk to him.
Good teacher who knows his history very well. Does not use a book so notes are a must. He is very friendly and easy-going. As long as you pay attention and take good notes, the class is fairly easy.
He is a really awesome teacher. I loved his class! I got along with him, and he made an effort to get all of us to like him. Take him if you can!
He is a great teacher. He acts mean sometimes, but he is harmless. He is really funny and everyone should take him. The class is very note based. There is always an essay question about the readings, but he gives you an idea of what to look for in the readings. Take good notes and you will do well. The only thing he grades hard are research papers.
Awesome! tests are hard, but he is great. Don't have to buy book. He is really smart and fun. take him if you can!!!!
Dr. J is an awesome teacher!!!! He really cares about his students, and he makes the class sooo interesting!! Oh yeah, and he's sexy too!! WOO HOO!
I love Dr. Jones. He really is an hilarious and fun teacher. His personality is unique out of the teachers and he makes the learning enjoyable. Try to answer his questions during class. And reading the book does help you stay on top in class but you don't NEED to. He's a great teacher and i really enjoyed taking this class. Yay Dr. J!
I really enjoyed the class. It's not a real easy class, but he is interesting and makes class fun. Need to take good notes. There are three tests and eight quizzes but he drops the lowest quiz. Tests are multiple choice but don't expect them to be easy. I would definately recommend him though. Great teacher!
GREATEST TEACHER EVER! Easy class if you participate and study a little.
Dr. Jones made history seem interesting. The class is not too hard but read the pages and study a little and you can make an A. I would recommend this class to everyone.
Definitely not a hard class if you study and participate - He definitely enjoys teaching and it amazes me how much he knows! Does make it interesting - Make sure you study for tests and just read for quizzes. :)
I came into the class not very interesting, but he soon changed that. He teaches with a little flare and humor that pulled me in. You have to go to class and study, but it will be worth it in the end.
As far as teaching goes he's a great teacher. He's kind of sarcastic. Very intelligent. I don't like his style of teaching b/c his quizzes aren't over test material, so therefore the tests are harder than normal. There are some writing assignments, but they are rather easy and he doesn't critique them too bad.
very smart, funny, class is all lecture so it is important to go, tests are from lecture, only 2 tests: midterm and final, tests are hard and require a lot of studying, reading the textbook helps a lot, quizzes and writing assignments are easy points, a really fun teacher that cares about the student and knows what he is talking about!
my grade wasnt that good, but dr. jones was cool. very sarcastic and making us laugh. he is pretty helpful in and out of class. test were kind hard. i recomend taking him though, he knows his stuff and is funny.
I took him for World History 2. he was a great man and i personally loved him but i can understand why some people would not. he's very blunt and sarcastic and that scared a few people away. getting an a isn't hard, however, if you read the night before the tests and quizzes. i never studied and got an a just by reading the night before.
so. awesome.
Only the best person of all time.
Dr. Donald G. "Indiana" Jones, Ph.D., HNIC, das P.I.M.P., and our one and only Lord and Savior, is the de facto boss of this department. Never have I seen a man so widely and so appropriately revered. If Jonesy were to rewrite history to suit his own tastes, it would be perfectly acceptable. Don Jones does not teach history—Don Jones makes history.
He's a very hard instructor. His tests are all in essay form. You have to be precise and specific when answering the essay questions for the tests and for the book exams. I would only recommend this instructor to anyone who is a Writing buff. The good thing about this instructor is that he is fair and he has a very good sense of humor.
Like most say, this guy is probably the most well-liked professor that I know of at UCA. I havent taken him in 2 years because of scheduling problems, but I can assure you he's worth taking. He'll come up on you from nowhere and have conversations. My freshman year I had no idea what I wanted to do until I took his class. Definitely recommend h
I loved this class. THe only reason I took it was his last name was JOnes and it reminded me of Indiana Jones but it turned out to be a blast. His test aren't to bad just study the book and the notes!! Overall this guy is a hoot!!
Dr. Jones knows his stuff. He is a great teacher and really wants you to learn. And I loved the bow-tie!
He is so funny and really makes you enjoy the class
All I can say about Dr. Jones is that he is one amazing man. She is hilarious in class, he brought us brownies on the day of the final, and he knows his stuff! I would definitely recomend him any day! I think he is my favorite teacher I've ever had. The tests are all multiple choice and if you do the reading it will be no problem.
Dr. Jones is fabulous! He is so funny and a good teacher. I definitely recommend him. There are only 4 tests including the final and the best 5 out of 8 quizzes that are super easy.
3.8 this semester because I made a B in his class BUT the class was interesting because he knows his stuff and enjoys what he does. Would take him again for another B because I didn't dread going to his class and I hate history. Great guy and cares for his students.
Great guy. Don't take the class unless you know your history
Great guy. Don't take the class unless you know your history
Tests are all essay and the answers come straight from the notes since there is no textbook. Plus, you are required to read 4 books about European history and will take quizzes (also essay) for each one throughout course. It's a lot of information, but he makes it interesting. Plus, he's sarcastic which is fun.
Dr. Jones is an awesome instructor. He makes class interesting through his witty intellect and humor. Just make sure to take good notes and study them well, and you should be fine.
I liked his class. No text book, just power points. If you can get ahold of old test and quizzes, they are almost the exact same. You will have 3 book exams, and quizzes, and a mid term and final. You will have to study, but just like you will in any history class. No essays :)) just show up and take notes and read and you will be fine
Super fun professor. Laid back likes to joke around with his students. No textbook just notes in class so important that you attend even though it is not mandatory. Drops 3 quizzes. Makes history entertaining. Highly recommend!
My favorite professor at UCA! I love this man! he is funny, and his class was easy in you stayed on top of things. he is really nice. I would take him again if I needed another history class!
Laid back and jokes around. No book and he lectures by memory and powerpoints, but he doesn't post them online. Midterm, final, one map test, and 8 or so quizzes. Drops 3 quizzes. If you don't do well on the midterm it's hard to get an A. Very entertaining.
Dr. Jones is not a good history teacher to take! His lectures are very boring, and he WILL NOT WITH YOU. If you need help, good luck asking him.
He is clear and straightforward. The material isn't too bad. There are two case studies that are easy, if you actually do the work.
Dr. Jones is, in my opinion, the best history professor at UCA. I've taken him for 2 upper division history classes and have loved every minute of them. Be ready to take alot of notes and read the assigned books. There were 2 test (midtermfinal) and then however many books (usually 2-3), he gives test over them. All in all, a great professor.
Dr. Jones KNOWS HIS STUFF! He's really funny and helpful. The lectures tend to feel a bit long, just since he doesn't really use powerpoint. You should attend class, even though it isn't mandatory, just because you really need good notes. Anything essay-based tends to be a bit hard bc he wants to hear what he said. Multiple-choice, super easy!
Dr. Jones is a very funny, sarcastic dude! Easy to pay attention during lectures. GIVES OUT STUDY GUIDES FOR THE TESTS! All test information comes from his lectures and power-points. Don't worry about reading the book, just go over your notes. (Need the book for the quizzes). Overall, this was a very fun class that I looked forward to attending!
He's a super cool guy. His lectures are interesting and he knows his stuff. The tests are based off the lectures and he doesn't post them online, so you have to go to class and take good notes. Don't bother reading the textbook, you only need it for the article quizzes.
He goes over about 2 weeks of information for one test that is straight from the sides that he types. He does not take attendance but you have to come to class b/c he does not upload the slides to black board. I reached out to him several times and he never helped or responded to me. Would not suggest his class if you are not a history person.
If you hate history, don't take this class. It's already boring and he only makes it worse. Attendance isn't mandatory but you have to go to get the notes. He gets pretty sassy sometimes. He does not sympathize with you and he's not very helpful. Honestly he probably won't remember your name unless you participate daily. I dreaded going.
By far my favorite teacher in the history department. He is hilarious and has awesome stories to tell about his travels in Europe. Expect to read and have quizzes on the books he assigns. I would take this guy every semester if I could.
Never takes attendance due to large classes. Definitely knows the subject he teaches and lectures are never boring. Tests are a bit hard but the two books he assigns to read are interesting. Follows his syllabus and schedule and sometimes won't remind you of upcoming dates. 10 quizzes, drops your lowest two. Amazing man and very caring professor.
I personally didn't like him. I like professors that put their power-points up on blackboard before class that day. He only puts them up there a few days before the test, and in class he goes to fast sometimes to even write anything down. There are only 3 tests and the the exam but there are like 10 quizzes and 2 papers.
Dr. Jones is a fine professor. He's pretty funny and knows the subject very well. He doesn't put his grades on Blackboard though, so you won't really know what you have in there until he gives you a grade sheet. All in all though, I enjoyed him.
First year this class was offered, it was all over the place. Doesn't post grades on Blackboard, he passes out grade reports once or twice. Posts study questions for test the night before exam. There are weekly reading quizzes, he drops last 3 at end of semester. Tests killed me because not all study questions were over what we discussed in class.
Nice guy, knows his history well. Has his moments where he can be a little rude, but theres nothing really truly bad about him. Id take his class again. Drops 3 quizzes at the end of the semester, so you have a really good chance of making a high grade in his class. Keep all of your papers though, he tends to have a lot of grading mishaps.
I absolutely loved this professor! There is weekly homework, but it is extremely easy. If you miss a lecture you'll need to ask a classmate for notes because he doesn't but the powerpoint on blackboard. Other than that, he's very funny and easy to work with.
professor himself wasen't to bad, just gave to many quizzes and grades a little tough.
Dr. Jones is a pretty good history professor. He doesn't take attendance, but I recommend coming to class (he doesn't use BB). 10 easy quizzes, which he drops the lowest 3. Two 2-page papers (pretty easy) and two exams plus a final. He gives study guides for exams so just study notes. Don't have to read textbook except for the quizzes and papers.
This is a pretty good class to take for history. There are about 8 quizzes that are pretty easy and he drops the lowest 3 at the end of semester. 2 exams that are fairly easy if you study a little. Lecture can be a bit boring sometimes but overall, an easy class to take. The professor is passionate about what he's teaching.
Dr. Jones can be brash but, he is a good man. He grades hard and, while he doesn't take attendance, you NEED to make sure you go. Most of his points are not in the book. If you like professors that make dry jokes this is your guy. 10/10 would absolutely take him again. He's quite intelligent and knows his history.
Dr. Jones is my favorite professor at UCA. He might be a bit sarcastic, but hes a very intelligent man. He will definitely make you laugh! He knows exactly what hes talking about. He gives study guides for tests and they are generally all multiple choice. He drops 3 quizzes, and if you actually read, the quizzes are pretty easy. Highly recommend!
Dr. Jones is the sweetest and funniest professor Ive had. He makes jokes during lectures and his lectures are easy to follow because he looks for answers from the students. The homework load is light and the tests are easy
All I can say about this professor is that they are one amazing person. They are hilarious and even brought us brownies on the day of the final. Plus, they actually know what they are teaching about! I would definitely recommend them any day and I think they are my favorite teacher so far in college.
Dr. Jones has a very unique teaching style. He mainly talks and discusses his points, and uses maps to show context of what's going on in history. He will pick on you and ask you questions. He does quizzes and lets you drop 3 of them. Be prepared for tough exams. Unless you are an auditory learner, he may not be for you.
Dr. Jones is amazing, hes one of the best profs Ive ever had. His classes arent really blowoff classes but theyre not that hard. If you do you work and come to class most of the time youll get an A, plus his lectures are hilarious.
A nice guy, but he doesn't like "dumb" questions, meaning don't ask a question he has already told the answer to otherwise he may make you feel stupid. Would probably take again honestly. Drops lowest quiz grades. Tries to help your grade.
Love Dr Jones, very sarcastic and tries to throw in some humor to make the class entertaining! Super easy class if you study for it. 8 reading quizzes, but drops your lowest 3. GIVES STUDY GUIDES!! The exams are literally straight from the study guides SO DO THEM! 2 book exams that aren't hard, just read the book. 2 lecture exams plus a final. EASY
He was okay but the test are not fun
Never heard a student in the class say 1 bad thing about him. We liked him. Lectures are funny, detailed, and explained well. Office is open and available. He makes an effort to know names/faces/etc. You write a couple papers which he gives you plenty to time for. Papers/exams/quizzes are only grades. No homework. You must attend class to succeed.
Dr. J was probably my favorite professor this semester, but still maybe my hardest class! He is absolutely hilarious and his lectures are easy to listen to/take notes on. He makes a great effort to get to know all of his students, which makes the class even more enjoyable. Only thing I hated was all of the required readings and frequent quizzes.
Really nice! Knows what he is talking about
Easy to follow through. Lectures are boring of course but his exams are pretty easy. Pop quizzes are very easy.
Easy class but kinda rude. Always felt like I was being talked down to when asking a question.
Dr. Jones seems intimidating but he is very funny. He doesn't like BB so you won't know your grade until given a progress report from him. 10 multiple choice quizzes on Fridays. The exams are all multiple choice except book exams. You will need the textbook. No extra credit opportunities but he drops the lowest 3 quiz grades. Highly reccomend.
He dropped three of the lowest quiz grades. Class is easy enough. Study for the quizzes. Go to his office hours for help when needed.
Dr. Jones is a very kind older gentleman who is hilarious and caring. He is a very good lecturer and I have learned a lot about history since 1945 in his class. He can poke fun towards you sometimes, just don't take it personally.
He seems like a jerk at first, but he's a really sweet guy just give him a chance. There's two exams and a final, and a couple of quizzes that he'll announce either a week before or at the beginning of the week, he'll always post study material to help with quizzes & exams as well. Just pay attention in class & take good notes & you'll be fine.
my favorite professor at UCA hands down!! he's hilarious, easy to get along with, and flexible if you just talk to him. pay attention during lectures, take good notes! not a lot of assignments, so you really can't afford to skip any of them lol. everyone should take at least one class with him!!
Professor Jones was a good professor and generally stayed on top of things. The biggest recommendation I have when starting this course is to purchase the three books, because you will use them throughout the entire class. Also, be sure to read and utilize all of the materials he provides during class and on Blackboard.
