Very nice guy, definitely willing to help his students out. A bit too permissive with debate; allows class to become a soapbox for every Joe Schmo. A little difficult to understand when he speaks, but you get used to it. The class is sinfully easy; if you don't get an A you probably didn't go. He seems very devoted to his subject.
Honestly, he's one of the best (if not the best) teacher I've ever had! His class is really easy as long as you have an open mind and a "sociological imagination." You don't have to do much work, just think outside the box. If you can't think outside the box, however, the class will be miserably boring and confusing. (Perhaps even offensive!)
GREAT class!! Very helpful and friendly. Never a dull moment! Fairly easy class, too. Dr. Ludwig will open your eyes to the world. GREAT professor!!
Dr. Ludwig is a great professor!! He makes you think about the world completely different, and challenges your thinking. Easy class as long as you have an open mind. Text book was actually interesting. Test-easy. He wants to hear your opinion, and there are quite a few debates in class. I highly suggest Dr. Ludwig to anyone.
Dr. Ludwig is fantastic!! Great teacher, very easy to approach. I had the best time in his class! Tests are easy if you listen to the lectures and study the practice tests. He is very open, and there is lots of discussions. Great instructor! He is by far one of my favorites!
The best class ever. Simply plan your group in the first couple of days of class, listen to people and who they are, pick the book they are doing. It's important because you will depend on your group for main project and some tests. If you get stuck in the group of people who are just there for the easy ride it would be very hard for you.
Very good instructor! A little unorganized, but very interesting and really wants his students to get an A in class. I would highly recommend.
Dr. Ludwig is an amazing professor! His class was so interesting and reflective. He truly cares about each individual student and it shows in the many ways he gets to know you through class discussions. He also is incredibly helpful and will do anything to help you succeed. Very, very, very interesting class!
I'm so surprised that there are only 8 comments on Ludwig! He's the #1 sociology teacher at Clark. Very clear to understand, and more importantly he prepares you for the exams. I wouldn't take any other teacher.
He is probably my favorite teacher at clark! He is very helpful, very lenient, very easy, easy A!!!!
Awesome teacher, really made it interesting. I originally was taking Prof Howell's class and had to drop it, I wish I hadn't taken her class, but it did show me the vast difference in teaching styles. Prof Ludwig teachings made me feel as though he wanted me to learn, I didn't get that impression in Howell's class. If you want to learn take Ludwig!
I looked this teacher up on this website, and I must have skimmed it cause I didnt read anything about his speech thing. He had a stroke a couple years ago, but he recovered and now he teaches. Personally, I think its the coolest thing in the world. He knows his stuff, but he's really very lax and easy going ... he'll be very lenient towards you.
Ludwig was pretty awesome. However, this is not an easy A class. You actually have to work and study especially for his tests... so if you're looking for an easy A, skip this class!
What a great guy, heard to understand sometimes because he talks different, but you get use to it, very easy class, be open minded with what he has to say, group project in this class, my group sucked but still got an A. Watched a movie for the final and wrote a paper on it, Five exams not hard read the chapter, you will be fine. Take this class.
Great teacher, I was not looking forward to sociology but Prof. Ludwig makes the class very interesting. I would highly reccomend him.
if you can stand the socialists, anti capitalism rants, then this is a very easy class. tests are simple, all i did was memorize the key vocab in each chapter and never scored lower than a 97% on the exams.
What an awesome professor! He is LEGIT. Who he is as a person, his teaching .. everything was great.:)Just a warning.. make sure your small group for your projects is reliable from the get go. I was stuck doing the entire thing by myself... but still got an A on it. It's a great class, I learned so much and wish he taught more classes!
Attendance is essential! I got an A on every project, test, and assingment we did but ended up missing a bunch of classes. Ended up with a B-!!...easy A if you come to class and talk a couple times during discussions
If you don't absolutely love this professor you have to be out of your mind! He's a little hard to understand at first but you get used to it quickly. His class is extremely fun and he uses more than one method of teaching. You will have to take notes for test (all but one is multiple choice) but make it to class and you'll do great. Ah, fun times!
Great Teacher!!!! Interesting and uses lots of hand outs. His tests are exactly what he preps you for - no surprises! Very fair grader. He is passionate about teaching and the subject. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Easy A. No daily hw, just in class activities, tests, a big group project. Tests are multiple choice with some true and false. !!Go thro the quizzes from the online textbook website, half of the questions on the test are exactly the same as the one online!! Great teacher who is fun, open minded, devoted to the subject, helpful. Highly recommended!
Great Professor. He is a little hard to understand, a stroke I think. But he is funny, interesting and it isn't hard to get an "A" if you come to class, do your work with your groups and participate in discussions. I would highly recommend him.
He's good at his job, definitely knows what he's talking about. Tests are easy since there's so much in-class discussion and review. There isn't really homework except for the simple 2-3 page reflection paper due at the end. The largest amount of work goes into a group outline that is easy to get a passing grade on. I would recommend his class.
He is a wonderful professor. A little bit hard to understand at first, (5 years prior he had a stroke) but you get use to it right away, plus it makes not taking a lot easier! I'm currently enrolled in his class Sociology of Juvenile Delinquents and I absolutely love it, he's very fun and helpful. Definitely recommended.
Cannot wait to take more of his classes.
Amazing class. I actually look forward to going to class! Dr. Ludwig is funny, charming, and a great professor. If you can, TAKE THIS CLASS! <3
The large concentrating of class time on group assignments makes it frustrating. Other than tat its an easy class.
Dr. Ludwig is an extremely nice and humorous professor. I didn't enjoy or agree with a lot of the information he taught, but he himself was pretty cool. One thing he could do better is be more clear on what he expects. I passed with an A so I guess he was clear enough. If you enjoy sociology, then this is the class to take!
He was great! The group projects kind of suck but Mr. Ludwig is an awesome teacher.
The class and the teacher were great.
The class is very interesting and Ludwig is very humourful and kind. The group project as everyone mentioned, is quite difficult but aside from that, if you read the text book (30pg a week) and do good on the tests, you will be fine. I recommend this class.
AMAZING TEACHER! This was one of the first classes I took- and I ended up changing majors! He is my FAVORITE teacher:) If you take 101, the first day of class will be a bit awkward (you'll see why) but he breaks the ice fast:) Some things in sociology are hard to talk about- he helps make it a lot easier.
He has a speech impediment because of a stroke and is hard to understand at first but I don't even notice now. He's such a sweetheart and a good and fair teacher! Lots of group work though.. But overall pretty easy A and fascinating
I feel like his whole class was an experiment to see how students perform with poor and misleading instructions. He is a nice enough person. The politically correct BS was so thick in this class that a person could walk on it and not sink.
if you like structure, organization, and clarity DO NOT take this class. if you like group work and rambling unstructured lectures then this is the class for you. easy class, easy tests, not too much work overall but group work made it unbearable. it's a typical intro level college course. prepare to be indoctrinated
I went to this class not to interested and figured I'd drop the next day but I was so intrigued and happy to go each day. Mr. Ludwig is such a sweet and funny guy
Mr. Ludwig is great. I am really into Sociology and Psychology, so I absolutely loved it. You learn so much, but it is actually interesting stuff you want to learn, not boring things that you won't remember when the class is done. You can apply what you learn to the real world. His class is a real eye opener to society around you. Def recommended.
He was definitely my favorite teacher so far. He may be a little hard to understand at first because of his stroke, but you get used to it fast, and hardly notice it. A lot of group work, pretty easy class, just pay attention and study for the tests. If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask him. I highly recommend this class!!!
Doctor Ludwig changed the way I view the world. Those below saying the class was terrible because of group work should be embarrassed, one of the main concepts were how groups interact! That's why he does that. This teacher is outstanding and should win a national teaching award. I hope one day he is recognized for his incredible teaching.
Mr. Ludwig is an amazing professor who teachers a lot of his concepts through activities. A lot of group work, so it really matters what group you get into (he chooses). I love that he is a Christian!:) He is very clear. Study for the tests! Read the book!
If you LOVE Christian/religious views then this is the class for you. Seems to him that all good in the world stems from religion and without we wouldn't have a functioning society. Annoying, egotistical and self righteous
If you like when a teacher talks about personal views of economic standpoints all the time take this class. Racism and poverty are heavily discussed one sided, don't argue with him about minimum wage. Easy class but... I was disappointed due to the fact that I was decently excited for sociology.
Amazing professor, I was very nervous about taking this class at first but it actually turned out to be THE best class so far. He will help you see the world in a new light and actually notice things about yourself and society that you never even imagined to think about. Exams are multiple choice and easy as long as you study and do the work.
He is really cool and is always willing to help. It can be hard to understand his speech sometimes but that's not much of a problem.
Mr. Ludwig is an AMAZING instructor. He is clear-cut, and an easy A if you listen to instructions and read the material. He is really sweet and into his course, making the class always interesting. I would highly recommend taking him for any class he teaches! I loved being part of his class!
The best instructor I have ever had. Best course. Superior. Learned so much. Engaging work. Master teacher.
For my Sociology class, he was very helpful, funny and lenient throughout the entire quarter. Great guy who gives great lectures without putting you to sleep, always keeping class lively, interactive and fun. Very easy-going teacher and a very understanding grader. Not a whole lot of busy work, and a great teacher to have.
He was one of my favorite teachers at clark! He's very helpful and makes his lectures where you can understand them nicely. You have to read the chapters to do well on the tests, but he tells you what he expects and if you do it you'll be very successful.
Great teacher with great stories! If you read the book and go to class, you're likely to pass. Probably one of the best professors I've ever had. Defined recommend!
Professor Ludwig is very sweet and helpful. He's one of my favorite professors so far. He knows his stuff and covers information clearly. The tests are easy if you read the chapter. Lectures are interactive and informative. Expect group work for the whole quarter.
made subject matter easy to understand. I felt like he truly cared about teaching his students. His group project was tough, but as long as you stay on top of it, you should be fine. The books for the group project are super interesting, though. I wanted to read them all. I feel like I learned so much in this class. I would take from him again.
Don is one of the best guys I know! He has experienced social norms and prejudices himself. He is very even-handed, and showed us both liberal and conservative mindsets. He let each study group choose a book to read, along with giving us assignments to write a page about influential sociologists. Make sure you have a good group, and you are set.
Mr. Ludwig is an excellent teacher. He teaches both sides of everything in a very balanced and intellectual way. The course isn't overwhelming but teaches you a ton. He seamlessly blends textbook and personal experience to make his words very respectable. His speech impediment Is very slight, and all it does is make him sound more methodical.
He was such a great professor. Very understanding of personal lives and responsibilities. He was great at clarifying and making subjects interesting. Ludwig genuinely cares about students success and I would definitely take a class taught by him again.
Such a great instructor! I highly recommend him! You will not regret, the class wasn't very hard, I had so much fun!!! Thank you Professor Ludwig :)
Lugwig's class was fairly easy. You have a 50 question multiple choice test every couple of weeks. You also have a fairly large group projects but he makes it really easy to know what needs to be done. The book helps with the weekly quizzes but most of the information can be learned during lecture.
Would take again only if I was needing another Socio class. Good lectures and tests is everything that is in the textbook. Read the two chapters for the and you will do fine on tests.
I absolutely loved this class and his teaching. Its such an easy class as long as you do the readings and the group project. There is a chapter quiz every Sunday that take 15 minutes to complete. He is funny and makes this class very interesting. Definitely recommend to take sociology with Ludwig!
Don is fantastic. He's inspired me to focus more on Sociology as I go through school into my career. He is someone who teachers about prejudice and faces prejudice himself. So caring and cool, very interesting class. 10/10 would recommend.
Don is a wonderful guy! He just makes you happy because of how friendly he is! The class was pretty simple just read the book and study terms and you'll do fine on the tests! Highly reccomend taking him for your social science credits!!
I adjusted my schedule to get Don as a Soc instructor. I had him for college 101 &adored him. Truthfully, he is an inspiration to me. Sociology isn't easy, but it isn't hard, either. You just need to participate. He's a great lecturer & his study techniques do wonders for me. Looking forward to taking other courses instructed by him.
He gave great lectures that were easy to participate in. A couple group things; staying focused and communication w group is key. His tests were fair if you read the material and took notes in class. Jeopardy to prepare for tests came w goodies for winner. Really nice and understanding.
Donald is a genuinely nice person and is easy to get a hold of, he stays after class and answers questions. My one caution is that there are two big group projects, as long as you are communicating with your group is is fine. He does have a speech impediment, so if you already have trouble understanding English, this might not be the class for you.
WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. Speech impediment makes lectures PAINFUL. Canvas goes back 3 or 4 years, Canvas is not set up in any organized fashion. Group projects only. I like him as a person, but this class was PAINFUL
Ludwig is a great professor, very kind and generous with grades. College 101 is an easy class just do your assignments that are on canvas and you'll for sure pass this course. No textbooks but you are separated in to small groups by him the second week of the quarter.
Ludwig is a super cool guy and his class really opened my eyes to current social problems. The material is interesting and the class is easy to pass if you do the work and read the chapter of the week, which wasn't bad at all in my opinion. Would definitely recommend.
Don was so fun! Yes, there was a lot of group assignments, but overall, it's such an easy class to pass, plus you learn a lot while you're in it! The only thing I would say was super tiresome, was the midterm project, it was a little annoying, but not difficult (my group finished it the night before) but seriously, 11/10 would take again.
Very easy as long as you make sure to take chapter notes. It helps a lot on the tests.
Best teacher at Clark College. Cared for his students and was inspiring. Hot too.
Ludwig Ludwig Ludwig. Oh ludwig. Too amazing for clark college. Would def take again.
Mr. Ludwig, the most amazing professor. Was the first class I actually missed going to when the quarter finished.
He is easy to access outside of class through email, grades easily off specific criteria, will often change grades for you if you have a strong enough argument, and posts all in class lectures and study materials on canvas.
Get ready to read a lot and do a high volume of assignments, but they're graded very easily. For the writing assignments, which are every week for most of the term, as long as you do them thoroughly you'll get an A on them, but they don't have to be spectacular. The tests aren't too bad as long as you read the chapter, he tests on little details
The homework given for this class is really easy, and there is not much of it. There is a group project due but it's not the most difficult thing but I reccomend getting it done early. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. There is an exam worth 100 points every 2 weeks on 2 chapters. Don't worry, they're multiple choice. Ludwig is a really good professor.
Loved this class, he made learning easy and somehow I retained most of his lectures (which is something I don't usually do). It's hard to get a bad grade in this class as long as you just show up and read the book. I look forward to taking a class from him again!
One of my favorite professors at CC! I found SOC101 harder than 201 (s. problems).
Don is one of the best teacher at Clark! Class isn't easy you have to work for it. He makes the subject interesting. Cares deeply about his students.
It's very hard to understand him. The worst professor I've had. Did not learn anything. You would be better off taking his class completely online or with a different teacher all together. He loves group work.
He was by far the worst professor I have had. I did not learn anything from him, as I could not understand him. He makes you work in groups and you have to rely on those people to do work, which sucked. There was so many tests, I was never not studying.
Make sure you read the chapters and take into account every little detail because it most likely will be on test. This class is not one you can skim read the chapters in. You must attend class or you will lose points.
Ludwigs sociology class was okay. There was lots reading and group discussion, but not too hard. No presentations. Mainly lecture. I was in his first hybrid class, so there were lots of kinks to be worked out in the beginning. It is challenging the first two weeks until get into the rhythm of the class. The textbook was required but not boring.
Ludwig was a great College Prep teacher, and I highly recommend him. The assignments were boring but super easy. He'd let us play games and he's really laid back. Participation and showing up to class counts towards your final grade.
I took Ludwig's daily soc 101 class. Ludwig has excellent professional credentials and often incorporates his own experiences into lectures to help explain concepts. The tests consists of topics from in-class lectures and the chapters. Definitely make sure you read. There is one group project near the end of the quarter. Otherwise, great professor.
He's one of the sweetest teachers I have ever met. He has a speech impediment so if that bothers you then this isn't your guy. He'll answer emails and if you need an extension he's very understanding. One group project but not hard. Overall great lectures, funny, and definitely would take again!
He is a super great teacher and inspiring person to learn from. He's very helpful and is active on Canvas a lot as well. There are quite a few assignments, however, they are not all hard and are easy ways to get credit. Group projects are fun and involving and are usually simple.
Taking this class online due to COIVD. Amazing syllabus and he makes online super easy. I recommend him.
I had to take this class online this quarter, and he has made all the materials easily accessible and very understandable. He's very open and available to communicate and genuinely wants to help his students. He's kept the coursework interesting and engaging even with the challenges of being online. I highly recommend this class and this professor
Wow, Professor Ludwig gave us so much good information and constantly challenged us to use it. Amazing Professor.
The class was originally an in-person but due to the global health crisis, was shifted to online. Prof. Don is really nice and cares about the content of the course. He offers many resources for you to look at, but you have to read the textbook to understand the course. He might be a bit difficult to understand but his course pages supplement well.
This class has been made into a 5 week program. It is very lecture heavy(4-5 tests a week, 2 discussion posts, and 2 weekly papers.) Tons of reading involved too. Instead of making the assignments easy to follow, each chapter module is filled with 10-15 different posts of unnecessary things. Never gotten a full score, no matter how hard I tried.
It was only five weeks program for some reason. That is why, it was super difficult. Tons of reading and tons of assignments. I didnt receive my grade yet, but Itll be not a good as I expect. Sad. Professor is really nice tho. I definitely wanna take his class again if its not five weeks class.
Took this class over the summer. 5 week intensive. I had lots of fun and learned A LOT. Don is a great educator and he cares about all of his students even though we are online. Cool dude all around. Be ready to read a bit. You can get by with just the keynotes, but might as well read the book, you paid for it.
He was fine. Not a whole lot of interaction at all minus the occasional class email, so I cant really speak to his personality. He was organized though. Each week was set up the same- an Inquizitive, a written paper and a discussion. It was pretty much up to you whether you did the reading. Solid choice.
Super great teacher!
Dr. Ludwig was a great teacher who was very caring about his students passing and excelling in the class. There were two to three assignments given per week, but if you paid attention in class they were super easy to complete. If you did fall behind, he was super understanding and would give you time to complete. All in all really great teacher.
Good teacher, nothing crazy or surprising.
Great teacher and overall easy and a smaller amounts of work. Very understanding with late grades and attendance.
I took two of his classes, social problems and criminology, and he is blessedly the best most organized canvas professor I have had the privilege of studying under. He offered many resources and was very accessible. I loved his commitment to his students. I turned in a few major assignments late and I still received A's. I would take him 100x over
He's a GREAT professor. He is SUPER organized with his module and everything. You get the same 4 assignments each week that cover different topics. There's a discussion, quiz (answers found online) and two other assignments. His discussions are very interesting and really get you thinking. I took his criminology class and have never learned more.
I took Don Ludwig for Criminology and Social Problems, and he is THE best. The textbooks were first-day access. The reading wasn't heavy, and the information was fun to learn. He made it so easy and organized. In Soc. Problems there is a 10pg thesis due, but he walks through everything with you, and he makes reaching out to him incredibly painless.
It's a privilege to learn from such an incredible professor who truly cares about his students. Dr. Ludwig's lectures were amazing. He's an exceptionally caring and understanding person who provides many extra credit opportunities. Fair grading practices and clear explanations. I appreciate the coursework consistency and structure.
Professor Ludwig was a great teacher. I took this class because I needed a social science credit, but I am really glad I chose sociology because I learned so much in Ludwig's class. Sociology 101 was quite easy as long as you put in the work and do the readings.
Donald Ludwig is a great professor! He is very understanding and caring of his students. He is accessible outside of the classroom and grades assignments in a timely manner. I have no complaints about Ludwig, he was great to have as a professor. If you are debating on taking a class with him take the class!
Super cool guy. Took his class as a junior in high school and passed with an A. Love the material, just show up and try your best. :)
Funny, classes are entertaining and feel fun to attend. Discussions are meaningful. Workload isn't that heavy, assignments are simple and straight forward. Learn a ton without drowning in work. Loved his class.
Take this class if needed, no seriously, do it. You will not regret taking this class with Professor Ludwig. One of the best teachers I have ever had in my education. I know this seems like too much, but I usually don't rate someone unless needed. He is a great teacher and person, so if you want to learn and get a good grade, take his class.
I took Ludwigs class for college essentials 101 and it was nice. He gave one assignment per week and they were always very simple and quick to finish. He was really kind and understanding too.
Don is a great professor - super understanding and makes the material engaging. The workload is manageable if you stay on top of the readings. unstuck study was a big help with test prep.
You can tell Professor Ludwig really enjoys the subject and makes learning easy. Would definitely take again.
