Recommend him.He will be teaching ENV 1020 in the Fall of 2011.Take him for your lab and lecture if possible.Had him as lab professor. He is a really cool guy.His lab exams were related to the experiments covered in class. Not hard exams at all.Just read the lab book and you will be fine.He is really helpful unlike other Natural Sciences professor.

one of the best prof. tests are relative to the lab experiments, watever he didn't mention or wasn't in the experiment will not be on the test. Lots of extra credit points on the test. Very nice and linient guy, willing to answer any and ALL questions u have. Pay attention in lab (you have to anyways for the experiment) and its an A. RECOMMENDED!!!!
Overall one of the best professors I have come across given my entire college career. Really interested in getting everyone to learn and use their brains (one of the few). Would definitely recommend to anyone to enroll in one of his courses. Top quality!
Overall great teacher. I had him for the lab portion of the semester. The experiments are fun if you have cool partners. He is a really guy and actually cares so much about science. Study the book before tests and attend the labs and you should be fine!
LOVEEEE this professor so much! He is extremely helpful and is super nice!! Such an amazing professor, and he's a cutie pie too! :)) TAKE HIMMMM
I learned more from reading the book than from him. He will no let you come out for air. Had to write about 15 lab reports, 2 of which had to have journal resources. 1 field trip with a written report, 1 group PP presentation. So lab class plus 30 chapters they cover in the lecture class, see how much time you have left to study lecture material.
one of the good prof. tests are relative to the lab experiments, extra credit points on the test. Very nice and linient guy, willing to answer any questions you have. Pay attention in lab, good luck. Recommended
AMAZING Professor. He genuinely cares about his students and their success. Just do the fun lab projects with your group and write down your steps, simple as that. He makes your time worth while. It is a great, interesting class and he makes it VERY enjoyable. I really recommend taking him.
Great professor. Made science material understandable and relatable even for those who were non-science majors. Always had time before and after class to answer any questions or help with problems. Tests were fair and based on material covered during labs.
Great professor. One of the few that actually really cares about his students. Wish I could take all of my classes with him!
Professor is clearly interested in teaching the material, and is always willing to answer any questions. All work is related to the class, and helps you review. I had him for lab, and the exams were only on the information we covered in the labs. He made the class interesting, and I highly recommend taking his class.
AWESOME! You gotta love it when they tell you how to get an A. Study a bit, but he tells you what you need to read (the explanation of the labs).
study study study... i dont know, i had to study my best friend took the class with me and she said she barely studied. we both got A's but she likes science so i think thats just her. either way he tells you what you need to study thank god.
He is such a great teacher! He explains things clearly and will answer any questions you have. He is helpful with assignments and truly wants his students to do well. He also gives great gardening advice!
Great Professor!!! he demands you do work...go figure right...He is extremely thorough in his explanations. His passion is infectious...if you take him, you will hear my story about the spiders in my building foyer...Take him, and he just might open your eyes to the reality around you! and enjoy the learning process.
A summer class, a lot of work, accelerated, but manageable. The professor made it interesting and he also allowed your interest to lead learning along the course guidelines. The tests were based on what was done in class and right out of the text. One paper on a field trip out to the Rockaways,a lab journal and 2 lab reports
Was very well organized and made otherwise boring labs a real joy. Made sure to include everyone in the discussion and was great at helping out when I did not understand something. Definitely recommend taking him, you will learn a lot!
Prof. McClelland is very knowledgeable. He is a great professor. He really cares and wants to help students learn. The exams are not too difficult and he makes the class interesting. The lab journal requires some effort but it is not hard. Overall, I really enjoyed the class.
Awesome guy. Cute & funny, too!
I took him for a summer class and although it was accelerated he was very thorough and made it easy. as long as you do the journal after every lab you should be fine. I highly recommend him, his passion for the subject truly makes the class interesting
Great Professor very knowledgeable in his field. The class was not easy but if you read the labs before class to understand the Lab assignment you will be fine. He also explains everything very clearly with examples. We had to keep a lab notebook and write in it, he check's it. 2 lab reports and 2 lab exam.
Dr. McClelland is a great professor. He is helpful, insightful, and actually wants to TEACH. There are two exams that are fairly written if you study the labs. He provides a clear guide to all lab assignments. Write all of the labs in the journal he requires you to keep. Enjoy the class, I sure did!
Professor McClelland is by far the best professor I have had at Baruch. He was extremely helpful and always explained things really well. He is clearly passionate about teaching. I learned so much in this class as he applied what we were learning to current events. He was also very funny and cute! A man of great intelligence and integrity !
amazing professor, knowledgeable and has a PHD. inspired me to consider a minor in env. although some of the labs are kind of silly/seemingly pointless, you will learn a lot about how screwed up our environment really is and have fun at the same time.
Professor is extremely kind. He makes it clear that he wants you to understand not only science but the importance of science; In which case he tries his hardest to keep the topics and the labs interesting. As long as you do the work requested, you will get a good grade and have a great experience.
He is one of the BEST professors in Baruch.I enjoyed it.During the class he was very helpful and mad us to be interested in learning the material.Very interesting person to talk and share thought during the class. His exams are not hard and covers all the material from the book and labs.I learned a lot from his lab than from lecture of pr.Zarnoch.
Dr. McClelland is one of the best professors I have come across at Baruch. He is very knowledgable about Ecology. He opened my eyes on how important science is in our daily life. Take him and you wouldn't regret it!!
He is very helpful. In order to do good in his class pay attention in class and get highlight basic content in the lesson. awesome Professor. Take him!!!
wish he was the lecture professor instead of just lab! Very intelligent and surprisingly didn't hate science as much as I thought. Great way to end my undergrad :)
Great professor. Mid-term and Final all based off in-class slides. Just take good notes and it is easy. He is extremely helpful with lab too.
Dr. McClelland made the class fun. He always tries to help you if you dont understand and will stay a while after class to help. He is a rational human being and understands the students! Very knowledgable, especially about the plant world. Handed back quizzes reasonably fast. Good grader. Hes also funny sometimes. Keeps class casual.
Awesome Professor!! Definitely recommend. He is really passionate about sceince. He will talk to you after class in case you did not understand the material. Class is not easy! Must take out every day to read textbook and to complete the lab notebook. Tests are multiple choice and lab exams are fill in the blank.
Great professor!!! Very passionate about science and a very well rounded human being. Is always there to help after class. Class is not easy, must study hard and read a lot of material but overall I strongly recommend him.
He is AWESOME! One of the best professors I took. Smart - check; helpful - check; fun - check; cute - check! He's very interesting to talk to. A person you would like to keep in your life. I wish I had him for a full semester, not the short summer one. This was my last class at Baruch and he made me miss school already.
Everything you'd want in a professor. Smart, passionate, helpful, funny, easy on the eyes. Oh and he's so nice!!! His patience is through the roof. Highly recommended! Miss it already!
I was dreading having to take a science at Baruch, but ENV 1020 ended up being my favorite course I have taken at Baruch so far, all thanks to Dr. McClelland. He explains the material perfectly and is extremely helpful if you have any questions. I wish he could teach more courses at Baruch!!
Definitely a professor worth taking! Great ability to teach the material in a relatively easy fashion. Very laid back and willing to work with his students, in order for them to better understand the material.
I was surprised of how interesting Science can be overall, especially if you have McClelland teaching you the course. Not only that be makes the material interesting, the way that he teaches embeds information into your mind. A great professor to learn from, especially from someone who is passionate about his work.
Professor McClelland was definitely a professor worth taking. This class ended up being fun and something i looked forward to going to everyday. McClelland is a personable, funny and helpful professor. He was always available and taught the material well. One of the funnest classes I've taken at Baruch
By far the best professor I've had at Baruch. He really cares about his students and tries to make his classes fun and understandable. He is always happy to speak with you before or after classes, whether it has to do with science or not! Must take.
Best College class I have ever taken. Professor McClelland is an extremely passionate instructor whose enthusiasm radiates onto his students. He makes it fun to learn, while still stressing the importance of everything he teaches. He is always offering to help students and makes small talk with everyone, creating a very comfortable learning envrmnt
This class raised my consciousness about how delicate the ecosystem really is. The other day, I found myself talking to a complete stranger about how detrimental removing either a predator/prey can be for the environment. All I can say is: thanks Dr. McClelland. Your class gave me a lot of things to think about and to process!! -MDS
Dr. McClelland is open to his students, in both conversations about Environmental Studies or even anything at all! I would HIGHLY recommend taking the course in a FALL or SPRING semester. The course is both lecture & lab, so there is A LOT of work! Dr. McClelland is one of the few professors that actually wants you to LEARN.
I don't know how students say that this guy is a good professor, I don't know if good is stand in front of the class and show 30 slides (pp) and explain two chapters in 50 mins. A lot people dropped the class. He even used the book he ask for. The final is accumulative 30 chapters. The final is accumulative. Don't take him ever.
Overall i think professor McClelland is great professor. Take his class if you are willing to do your job and study. However, there is one thing he should consider changing: Share the lecture slides. Not sharing the slides only creates unnecessary stress. (taking pictures every second instead of paying attention to you)
This guy doesn't teach, he just read off the slides. In addition, he gives you an excessive amount of useless lab work. 3 lecture hall exams, final is cumulative. That's 30 chapters, 680 pages!! 2 HARD Lab exams, 90+ pages lab notebook, 4 lab reports, mandatory field trip, presentation, expects perfect attendance. Stay away from this GPA Killer!
Basically puts up slides for the day's chapter and goes through each one. Everyone takes pictures of the slides with their phones and honestly, that's all you need to study with. Funny guy, passionate about his field. Highly recommend if you're willing to actually study the slides. Exam questions straight from the slides too.
He did an excellent job teaching the material and making every lab interesting. He's very knowledgeable and will any question honestly and with great detail. He's also very funny. He doesn't ignore you while you're doing the lab and makes conversation with people. I highly recommend taking his lab class.
Great and funny professor. Occasionally sarcastic in a good way. Exams are easy if you study the slides he goes over during the lectures. A really nice professor who is passionate about the subject and willing to help. Recommend this class if you are willing to learn.
Great personality. Really approachable and helpful. He wants his students to learn. Attend every lab and pay attention, you will do great in the class.
Great professor. Love his personality. Always willing to help. Exams are fair, just study and you will do fine. Going to miss this class!
He is always enthusiastic about what he is saying. He has a deep understanding of the subject. The most touching thing is that he shows a genuine care for the earth we live in. He will change your impression of scientists. They can be cool and hot, rigorous and funny, sapiential and genial. Love him~~
He is a good professor. If you are taking his class, make sure you get him for lab too, you'll enjoy it. He does cover a lot of chapters though ( around 40 chapters for final), but once u sit down for the final, it wont matter if u studied or not, it is easy.
I took the lab portion of the environmental class with Dr. McClelland. He was very clear with his explanations and was available after class if you needed additional clarifications. The exams are not easy-- but he gives clear explanation of the outline etc.
He was actually a very good professor. He makes sarcastic jokes but its not in a derogatory way. I took him for both lab and lecture and i must say that i rather enjoyed this class. the material was difficult, but he threw us a bone on the final by giving us questions that were easy to answer. Very helpful, cool, down to earth
His class was an amazing experience he made it very interesting also very helpful and extremely fun. Strongly recommend will enjoy even if you don't like science.
As someone who needed to fulfill a science requirement I am SO glad I chose Ecology with Prof. McClelland. Come to class and be attentive and you are bound for success. Also, he is INCREDIBLY approachable..if you have any concerns/ questions regarding class content or exams he is more than happy to sit with you one on one. Overall, great professor!
great professor !!!!!!!! . interesting class.
He is one of the best prof i had in Baruch! I had prof. McClelland for my lab part of the class. You really can see how much he enjoys teaching and does such a great job explaining the material. He also has a great sense of humor! Just read the material from the lab textbook and you will be fine. Def will recommend him to all my friends!
He is a great professor. However, I think that there are too much materials to remember for exams. For example, the final is cummulative( 30 Chapters). If you love science and this class is your only worry-yes take him. But if you are a finance and accounting students and have more other important subjects to study for, please take someone else.
He is a great and very knowledgeable professor! The only challenge of this class is the amount of material. Its about 30 chapter and the final is cumulative. Overall the class was interesting and fun.
He's oddly funny. His exams are funny but they are quite hard. At least for me whose English is a second language. Feels tricky. Oh, take picture of the slides! Very helpful for you to study later as he won't post them on bb. Overall, great learning experience. I'd take another prof for the lab.
McClelland is awesome. He will make you interested in biology. Everything is straightforward. If you study, you will do well. He is knowledgeable about a lot of subjects. Practical is a little challenging and lecture is a little easier.
McClelland is a great professor! Everything is straightforward, and he makes both lecture and lab fun. Just like any other class, if you study, you'll do fine. No surprises on his tests.
McClelland is awesome! He makes lab and lecture entertaining. Everything is super straightforward, and just like any other class, if you study, you'll do well. No surprises on his tests.
If you get a chance to take a class with him you definitely should! His lectures interesting and he is funny. He makes material relatable to real life which helps with the more difficult concepts. You will gain an appreciation for bio and he teaches you to be curious about the world around you. He is a great professor!
His method of teaching is "learn on your own." So, you have to be very active, ask a billion questions, become engaged. His passion for biology is admirable. Study hard, very day.
Prof McClelland is so awesome--he's friendly, funny, and very knowledgable about ecology. I took his summer class so the material was condensed and the pace was really fast, but he still made sure we understood and were engaged. 10/10 recommend but you HAVE to study for his tests--they're fair, but not easy. Also, his sarcasm kills me :D
Dr. McClelland is a gem. This from a student who failed the 1st exam! Had I been more relaxed & not "overstudied" I suspect I'd have done better. I reached out to him asking to review my exam with me so as not 2 repeat the mistakes on the final. Dr. McClelland worked around my work schedule & immediately made himself available. A real mentsch!
Worst class I've ever taken at Baruch. He has an interesting grading policy. Just for 3 credits you shouldn't be studying like crazy. If you are not majoring in Science Don't Take Him! if you are not a science person, you'll just ruin your GPA!!!!!
Professor McClelland is a great professor! He definitely knows the material and cares a lot about the environment. He makes his lecture fun. Even though i did bad in this course, I would still suggest to take him if you want to learn about ecology. Attend each class, take notes, and study hard! There are 30 chapters, final cumulative!
Hated the material, but loved this guy! He really is a nice professor and tries to keep the class interesting, although he flies-by slides.
He is a really good professor, and as many students said: you have to study hard to pass, but the overall experience is positive. Definitely would recommend to take him.
It was a hard class and if you are not a sience major student think twice before you take him. He is a nice guy with sarcastic smart mouth, what makes class more intresting, but doesn't help on exams.
His dedication to science is admirable, but if you do not study you will not pass! Taking notes is nearly impossible at the speed he goes through the hundreds of slides. I began taking pictures of the slides. Study hard or you will not pass! I failed the first test, but did much better on the second and third!
Dr. McClelland shares his enthusiasm for science which makes the class a lot more enjoyable. Study the material and you'll not only do well but also learn a lot. If you have an opportunity, take him!
Professor McClelland is a nice guy who is really passionate about what he teaches. Unfortunately, I wasn't that interested in ecology and rarely participated in class discussions. He is not an easy grader - he expects students to participate and write a 10 page term paper which is pretty tough if you're not passionate about what you're writing.
Professor McClelland is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the topics he teaches, and can convey the information in a manner which is accessible and fun. He will easily and gladly clear up any questions you may have. This class really inspired me to pursue science, and even business majors left wanting to learn more about ecology.
Dr. McClelland taught an amazing Science of New York CIty course. The reading assignments were relevant and interesting, and the class discussions were always engaging. The group project was challenging but doable, and Dr. McClelland was always available for outside help, feedback, and support. Great semester!
Professor McClelland is highly knowledgeable in what he teaches. He himself loves the subject, and through his class discussions he lets students explore their own ideas in an intellectual manner (along with several debates). There is a group project that consists of students with similar paper topics coming together. I would take him again.
You can explore ANY idea you want in this class, doesn't matter how controversial. Not one of those teacher's where disagreeing lower grade. The class atmosphere is not centered around getting an "A," its more about debating the ideasbiasis of authors (a rarity at baruch). Overall one of the best Professors Baruch has to offer.
Amazing professor ! He gives you a lot of information but explains it clearly and helps a lot. Super funny what helps you to remember everything and makes class interesting! Attend lectures and tests won't seem too difficult and you won't need to overstudy. Definitely take him!!
Given readings are a good balance between rigor, relevance and length. Made an unfamiliar subject relateable and interesting. Guided class discussion when needed, yet allowed for students to self-direct the discussion, which led to a lot of good communication and learning. Overall, an excellent student-oriented professor. Take him if you can.
It is evident that Professor McClelland is incredibly passionate about his field and he communicates it to students with enthusiasm, knowledge, and real-world examples. He is a good-humored, down to earth, interesting person and truly an amazing professor. Though not easy, I always looked forward to attending his class. Take him!!
A very funny and nice professor. He was very helpful. When I didn't understand something I would go to him for help. Attend his classes and listen to the lecture and it is an easy 'A.'
Professor McClelland was an amazing professor! He knew so much about the subject matter and it was so impressive. As long as you have something to say, he values participation and is so funny when the humor comes out. I would definitely take him again! One research paper which as long as you do it right, you'll get an A. Loved this class!
25% first midterm, 25% second midterm, 35% final, 15% recitation. Around 30 multiple choice for each exam. Final is accumulative. Not hard but you have to pay attention in class or review the notes in order to pass. Hilarious lectures.
Awesome professor! Final was 40 multiple choice questions and he gave away almost 13 of it by putting in hilarious choices. Must take!
Extremely knowledgable about his subject matter. Doesn't post his slidesclass notes so coming to class is important, otherwise you'll be stuck reading hundreds of pages of the textbook, which isn't nearly as entertaining. Two midterms a and a final. He's a really nice guy all around and a pleasure to learn from.
Prof McClelland's lectures are ones you actually want to go to. Interesting, he often talks about funny or weird things that go beyond just the dry facts, his tests are very fair. I'd take the class again if I could! I feel like being a teacher to mildly disinterested business majors is not a grateful enough job for him.
One of the best professors in Baruch. Class is interesting and helpful. I'm more concerned with environmental issues after taking his class. Two midterms, and a cumulative final. Tests are straight forward. Show up to class and read the slides, you will do well in this class!
Nice guy. The lectures are kind of boring but he makes them tolerable. It's kind of annoying that he won't post the slides even though the entire class just uses their phones to take pictures anyway. There are 2 midterms that aren't too bad if you study. The final is 30 chapters cumulative, but it was a joke. Impossible to get less than an 80 on it
He was super nice and genuinely cared about his students. The tests in the beginning of the semester were really hard but his final exam was super easy and he basically gave us the answers.
Great professor. Loves what he does, his passion is reflected in lecture and lab. Very helpful and accessible. Makes you work, but grades fairly. Learned a lot. Highly recommend him. (He's also very funny).
Great Professor. Straight Forward, Upfront, and Clear about grading. He gives you all the tools you need do well in his class.
Dr McClelland is the very intelligent and academically well-rounded person. Very passionate about botany. Very helpful. Pay attention in the class and read carefully on the test, and you'll get an A.
If you are a business major and need to take ENV as a requirement I would recommend his class. You have to come to class because the slides are not posted online and therefore pay attention. It will make it much easier when you are preparing for the exams. He is passionate about the subject and tells you exactly what you need to know.
If you are a non-major and you hate science, then Prof. McClelland is your guy. He makes Biology fun and interesting. His Hands-on-learning methods are great. Take is labs, without hesitation.
Professor McClelland is great! Lectures are long but he makes his best to make it interesting and fun! Very helpful, gives good feedback and is always there for you! I'm a marketing major and he made me really like science!!! TAKE HIM!!!
Since this is the lecture part of ENV, you will be graded on exams and online homework. The online homework is easy, just take your time. The three exams are multiple choice, and not difficult at all. Ignore the textbook, the lectures are more than enough for the exam. McClelland himself is an interesting guy. He makes ecology fun to learn about.
Knows what he's doing. Super respectful. Packs everything into his lectures so pay attention !!!
