Worst professor ever!!! Never could stay awake during his class he is so boring!!!
this professor is the worst. no curves. no extra credit. no quiz's. his examples for problems seem easy when he does it on the board, but when you try to work them out, its a whole new story. Just a horrible teacher overall.
This is the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. We started the class with about 50 students and ended with about 10! He doesn't know how to teach at all. Avoid this teacher completely unless you know how to teach yourself!!!
horrible prof..couldnt understand anything he was teaching me. failed miserably on each test. when a student asked for help he acted annoyed and gave little help. beware taking him.
I only had this professor for a few weeks because I dropped. He explained the material very clearly and thoroughly but he is difficult. No curves or anything like that. He's very "by the book" and dry, not a very pleasant or nice person but he does explain things well.

Good teacher, explains thing every well, hard test though. If you work hard in this class you will do well, if you dont work hard, dont even attempt to take it.
He is a horrible teacher. He looks like the nutty professor and just stares at the board when he's teaching. You ask him to explain something for you and he gives and math essay. I didn't like him at all. Guys, if you want to pass pick another professor!!!
WOW! I love math and am great in algebra, but his method of teaching is very by the book. Gives few examples in class from the easy even #s in book and assigns all the odds. On test, asks questions u havent seen before and DOES NOT REVIEW before. made no sense.
Never take a class with him, he doesn't help at all, his tests are horrible and so difficult that the chances you have to pass are very minimal. In my class started with 50 students, but at the end of the semester only 4 people pass the class. C+ was the highest grade. He is a nightmare!!!
This guy is the worst professor I've had in a long time. Your grade is based on tests only and he picks the absolutely hardest material for the tests. No curves, quizzes or extra credit. Instead of helping he blamed the FIU system for how hard the class was.
Orr is not the easiest professor, he's very much by the book but overall I thought that he was quite helpful in explaining the material. The only thing is that your grade consists of your four test grades but studying the notes and looking at the homework will definitely help.
All i can say is DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES! Its extremely true that when taking his tests you feel as if you had never seen the material before. While taking his tests you get the biggets headache you've probably ever had in your entire life and then you have nightmares with his tests. EXTREMELY TRAUMATIZING CLASS!
DOnt take this class during the summmer. he goes too fast, dont review for the examans,Hardest exercises in the exam,if you don’t do your homework, there is no way you pass this class. HE doesnt make a curve for the gardes so if you are willing for a miracle at the endof the semester.IT Wont happen,a positive thing is that he teaches really good
This proffesor is horrible. When students would ask for help he sounded annoyed and he'd make them feel stupid. To top it of he tries to be funny and he's not. Sometimes in class he would make these weird faces. Point being dont take his class.
This teacher makes this class difficult. Do not take it unless you plan to put ALOT of energy in. explains thoroughly but puts you to sleep in the process. Has a cold, self-righteous personality that can get very annoying.
run away, drop the class before it's too late.
Horrible, i had him for 2 days and i dropped his class right away i knew right then and there he was going to be very hard and not helpful.
this guy has one problem. he doesn't realize that teaching is about the student not the subject. it's like he's trying to impress you with his methods and tricks rather than explain to you why it works. needs to learn that math isn't just about tricks, it's not just how it works, it's why it works.
Professor Orr is great. when he teaches you'll be able to understand everything. Yes, his tests are extremely hard but as long as you are willing to study and do your homework you should be ok. NO CURVEs, when you add up your four test scores and divide by four thats what you'll get. It's hard but if you want to learn and work hard, take his class.
This is the most horrible teacher I have ever had in my whole life. Explains only a few easy problems from each section and then tests on the hardest. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!!

by the book kinda guy: yes...passable: definitly...just do the homework and you'll be fine. the guy DOES answer peoples questions and DOES want to help u out..i dunno about these other people saying he doesnt. he actually explain things pretty thoroughly if u go to him directly. take it if you plan on working for it.
Underrated teacher. He knows his stuff and teaches very clearly. He usually uses his whole 75 minutes to teach on each class. His tests are difficult, but doing your optional homework helps a lot. All tests are curved by 5 points and he often gives partial credit when you make a little mistake on a problem. If you are serious on math, take him.
I think that he is an EXCELLENT teacher. Before each class he goes over the problems you need help in. He DOES NOT make you feel stupid. If you do your homework and ask questions, you should pass. I TOTALLY recommend his class, but you have to do the work. If you don't, you will fail the class. I defenitely recommend him. I thought he was GREAT!!
You'll learn alot in his class.
A math teacher with exceptional teaching skills who graduated with a 4.0 according to a website. He helps you on the homework and replies to emails even on vacation, althrough he disappointed when not grading a test before the drop deadline. His tests are easy and rarely tricky if you do your Homework, curbs 5 points up, and gives partial credits.
Do yourself a favor and stay clear of this guy. I gave him an alright review for evaluations because he said a 60 on a test was good. I thought that I misunderstood his grading scale and thought that a 60 was better than it seemed, but a 60 is a D. Just as a note aside from my own complaints, know that by the end, most students dropped the class.
I failed mac 1105 twice. I took it a third time with Doug and I got a B. Do your H/W and go to class and you should be fine. He's pretty good at teaching this God forsaken subject.
He's tough, but fair. If you just need to pass, he's hard, but if are going to take further math courses, you will really know your stuff if you pass.
He is a good teacher, but you need to study and do homeworks for his tests, he gives 4 tests including the final. He explained all sections very GOOD. I will recommend this teacher.
If you are bad at math this is not the teacher for you. I had to drop the class. Even if you do all the HW the tests are hard. Good notes.
very nice guy. this was my second time taking him (alg&calc) and i failed again. explains really well but makes exams extremely difficult. doesnt take attendance and doesnt curve or give extra credit
This is guy is an a$$. He explains everything like if you knew the material. If you ever have a problem on his class DONT COUNT ON HIM he wont help you. He is very straight and extremelly boring. So please if you dont like math and you need someone to help you to pass the class DO NOT TAKE HIM.
This guy is the worst math teacher I have ever had.He is really boring and makes you fall to sleep. He explains not bad, but gives only easy examples. His tests are really hard and going to his lectures and doing homework wont help you to pass his tests. If you think that you are good in math and can take any prof, think twice because he will fail you.
do your homework and you'll be fine. Overall hes a good teacher. His tests are just like the homework!
he was an awesome teacher. he explained everything very well. everyone who gave him a bad rating is probably retarded and probably didnt go to class. :)
he is absolutely terrible. i went to class, studied like hell, and still got a c. he does not cruve and his test are impossible. there are only 3 test grades for your adv. in the class.
Although I must agree with prior statements that he knows his material. And knows it to the tee, he is a very harsh grader, did not give partial credit on his tests. But if you are dedicated on knowing every single aspect of theorems, then you will do great. If you do not like to study hard, don't even bother taking the class.
Orr knows his stuff!! First test you need to know over 75 vocabulary words, and the rest of the test are a mixture of theorems and problems, the problems are exactly like the homework, if you want to do well go to class and do the homework. Beware you will need to dedicate great deal of time and effort in order too pass.
Study Study Study!!! You need to put great effort and time into this class. After the first test 70% of the class stop showing up, but if you try you can pass!
Good teacher, I actually learned quite a bit from this guy. Im actually really happy he explained multi to us in one of the last classes. It really helped me later with advanced calc.
This guy is really out there. He explains things well yet he doesn't realize that his job is to teach. If you ask a question he answers sarcastically like we aren't all in school to learn and we should already know. If you don't do your homework you wont pass the class. Not for a lazy student. Only take this teacher if you are very self motivated.
I went to class enough. still did horrible on the test. because he doesn't make hw mand. it makes it very easy to slack. but i had a friend who went every day and did every assignment, and still failed. it's just a hard class. not easy at all
Don't take this teacher unless you are very commited. If you do your homework and understand your homework you should be able to pass. Tests are kind of hard and he's rude at times like he gets angry if some one doesn't understand. Moody ****
This teacher is extremely good at explaining math. He is on point and sticks to the syllabus. Homework and attendance is not mandatory but I recommend it. The tests are a bit hard but if you study well and do homework, you should be fine.
Most people thought his class was very difficult but if you actually go to class pay attention and do a little more than the assigned homework you should be more than ok.
If you have a life and can not spend all day practicing and going over math problems. Stay clear of this guy.
This professor seems to thrive on failing his students. He seems to try his best to confuse you most rather than help you to understand...he seems to get annoyed if you ask questions and make explain as if you're an idiot for asking...terrible at explaining!! you get more confused!!...Advice...ADVOID at all costs!
This is the worst professor ever. His class is extremely boring. He doesn't try to help you at all and always makes sarcastic comments as if you are suppose to know everything already. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
A really sarcastic guy, but speaks very clearly and knows what he's talking about. I took him for summer so things were really quick. Do the assigned homework, even though it's not required. You'll need it. He can be rude but also gives a lot of small breaks; 5-10 point bonuses on tests, sometimes. 3 tests and a final; final replaces lowest test.
all these people saying thet he is not good , well he is dont pay attetin to what the other people say because they are probably not insterested in school and want every to be fed to them in their mouth. go to his class do the homework and you have a garanteed A
HE IS AN EXCELLENT PROFESSOR. I DONT KNOW WHATS WRONG WITH ALL THESE PPL THAT SAY HE HIS BAD. HE EXPLAINS MATH CRYSTAL CLEAR. A LOT OF PPL DONT GO TO CLASS SINCE ITS NOT MANDATORY THAT PROBABLY WHY THEY GOT BAD GRADES...GO TO CLASS AND DO THE HW U WILL GET AN A. AND HE USES THE SAME PROBLEMS FROM THE HW ON THE TESTS.!
EVERYONE HERE IS JUST LAZY...HE IS A GREAT TEACHER. EXPLAINS MATH PERFECTLY IF U GO TO CLASS ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO FAIL. DO THE HW!! ITS THE SAME PROBLEMS ON THE TEST.
He was not a bad professor. He was helpful if you went to his office hours, he did try to help you out. Although I would not take this class in the summer, it is alot of work. I really recommend this class if it is offered in the fall or spring semesters. Homework is not mandatory and neither is attendance, but if you do not go to class you will fa
I have to admit, I thought taking Geometry for Educators would be a simple class, BUT NOT WITH THIS PROFESSOR. IF YOU ARE EXPECTING A WALK IN THE PARK, RUN AWAY, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE. This guy knows his stuff but I have to admit, his class is very difficult and unless you are anal and really like to study, DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT, rake this course.
The guy is clear and explains really good the material. But makes it impossible to pass the test. Gives HW which is not graded and does not curve nothing at all. After the first class out of 40 people only 11 received a passing grade and the highest was an 89. He is horrible and rude.
Yo do not take thsi class with him period
He is okay. You really need to put time and effort into this class. I would be at the library everyday studying and I passed with a C+(and i was the 5 highest grade in the class) do the math! A lot of people fail his class, but if you have time to put into the class then you will do OK.
He's alright, he's very sarcastic in his explaining and can sometimes make a person feel dumb about asking a certain question, and he basically brags about how many students in his class fail. Aside from that he explains pretty well and if you do the hmwrk, go to class, and pay attention, the class isn't too bad.
I got a B+. I could have got an A, but I slacked. He is a very good prof ... very Systematic. He will teach everything step by step. He can sound a bit sarcastic at times, but disregard that. If you do the HW, the exams will be like a piece of cake. Very Very good prof. I would recommend him to anyone.
he is a good professor, knows his stuff and will help you. but unless you are a math genius, good luck passing with a "D"! I study all the time, go to class and i bomb every test. the examples he shows in class are super easy the problems on the test are really hard and i have not seen any of them in the book.
Geom for Educators: Very clear math teacher. Very good at explaining things. This class is very easy at the beginning but gets harder with the proofs. He is a good teacher but you still have to study of course. Do problems in the book and study his notes. He is very helpful. Highly recommended.
This was my second time taking the class so I knew all the information. I still attended class all the time & still struggled. He is a good teacher, but unless you have a strong background in math good luck. His lectures are good & easy to follow, but when it comes to tests he asks you the hardest questions possible. Good luck!
Professor Orr is excellent. He is very clear. He teaches everything step by step, and is open to questions. He is a little sarcastic at times (some might find it offensive), but I found it rather funny. He does not use MyMathLab (which is great).
I had him for both algebra and trig and all I can say is unless you have a really strong background in math do not take him. He teaches well but the tests are pretty much impossible. good luck
He's an ok teacher. He goes through the stuff pretty quick and leaves out a lot of steps in between. The examples he gives in class are easy. However the questions on the test are impossible and he never explains anything like it in class. If u study a lot you can understand the material but good luck with his tests!!
Overall a great professor, very clear at explaining math. Don't take him if you expect to pass the class without doing anything. Getting an A shouldnt be hard if you do all the HWs and if you have any questions you can ask him to explain it in the beginning of the class. Plus he grades exams very fair. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED IF YOU WANT TO LEARN!
The key to doing well in this class is simple- DO THE HOMEWORK. If you don't do the homework, rest assured, you will probably fail. If you put in the time and do the HW you should get at least a B. His tests are challenging but he is very helpful as far as office hours and he teaches in a very clear and straightforward manner. Good Professor.
Worst math professor I have had, if you don't have a good math history don't take him. When he teaches he skips steps and the test are nothing like the homework. You will have to study like crazy, and the book will help you better then he does. I don't recommend him at all.
Just because he knows his stuff doesn't mean he knows how to teach it. He expects you to know every single concept and use his class simply as a review. Honestly, worst professor I have ever had. His tests are nothing like the homework. I attended every class and did every single homework and still failed. So paying att is not the problem.
His tests are impossible!! He asks all the hardest problems and most of them you can't find in the book. Don't take him
Professor Orr is a great teacher. His lecturers are organized, he encourages people to ask questions in class, His tests are fair. If you do your homeoworks and take good notes in class, you should pass his test with at least a B. Also, he has really neat handwriting, so taking good note was a breeze...
insanely hard class but the first test and the final are easy, just gotta study definitions like mad, replaces lowest test score with final exam grade, i got a 73, 63, 48, and a 32, but managed to pass with a C, because i got a 78 on the final only reason i passed was becuase of his grading policy, and his curving the last 2 tests, very helpful
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!! makes the test impossible. i would go to the lab everyday and go to private tutoring and would do all the homework and still got a F in the class. The class started with about 40 kids and i think ended with maybe 5 and probably only 2 that passed with nothing more than a B......
GO TO CLASS & ASK ?'s! Do ALL OF THE HOMEWORK. 90% of his tests come from problems in the homework (even not odd). Unfortunately, he includes some of the HARDEST homework problems so if you think the exams can't be that hard, think again. Lowest exam score replaced with Final. Study those e & ln problems VERY WELL. He LOVES those.
He's not as bad as everyone thinks. He's really organized and explains everything very clearly. His tests are hard but if you study you'll get it. If you could get a better teacher do it, but if you have to resort to a not so great teacher then take him. HES NOT THAT BAD, HE KNOWS HIS STUFF!
I dont understand all of the comments here saying that this guy is terrible, he is an amazing professor who really knows his stuff and knows how to explain it perfectly, yes his test are hard but if you do what your supposed to do, go to class and do your homework you will pass, really nice guy too.
I started going to class this week to learn the material on test #5. Prior to this I learned doing the online homework and quizzes, enough so to have 70-96-97-97 on the first four tests. Straight-forward teacher. No trick questions on his tests and they are quite easy if you make sure you know how to work problems from the sections on the test.
He is okay. His class is not atrociously difficult nor outrageously easy. He is kind of rude sometimes and I kinda felt embarrassed for some people whom he was rude to. I never went during office hours to ask anything but I think he tends to be nicer then. Every math teacher has sucky ratings...you might as well take him.
He is really good at explaining things! But he makes A LOT of sarcastic remarks but just dont take them personally. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF HIS HELP DURING HIS OFFICE HOURS! If you dont understand something GO TO HIM DURING OFFICE HOURS and he will explain! But he is very strict! I was one point away from an A- and he would not give it to me! Made me cry
Best math teacher I've ever had!!! He explains everything so clear and if you have a question he has absolutely no problem in answering it right then and there with no attitude. Very professional, always on time, and cares very much about you learning. His tests are easy if you do your online work and especially the practice homework questions. A++
He's really helpful, if you ask for help. He can be a bit boring, but at least he knows his stuff. He tends to grade tests pretty specifically (he kinda has to, being that it is a MATH class). He has 4 tests, one final. Drops the lowest and the final is cummulative. Study the definitions, theorems and do the homework and your good.
He is an extremely good teacher, covers everything step by step. And as long as you go to class and do the homework, the exams are easy! He is helpful if you asks questions too. He's not a professor you can be buddy-buddy with. He's just in and out, and can be a little arrogant sometimes... However his ability to teach math well makes up for that!
His exams are somewhat challenging, but his lectures are very detailed and well explained. Excellent for learning, but not necessarily the best for your grade unless you put in the work.
He's a great lecturer. Isn't very lenient with his grading but emphasizes you keep up with the homework and online work. One con I'd mention about him is that it's really his way or the highway in terms of solving math problems. I would take him again.
Had the displeasure of taking business calc with Orr in the Spring. He's one of those professors who takes sadistic pleasure in failing students and belittles people with a dry cynicism that can only come from teaching for way too long. Questions are begrudgingly answered with a hefty dose of attitude as well. Got a C+; happy not fail.
Unless you are willing to put in hours and HOURSSS of your time studying for this class,DO NOT TAKE HIM. It is extremely hard. He explains everything pretty clearly and you'll THINK you understand it when you're doing the homework but when it comes to the tests, the questions are completely different and they are impossible!! Better not to take him
TOUGH GRADER…enough said...
He's a really good teacher. His humor may come off as cynical at first but I genuinely think he's a nice guy. He explains things well and makes himself available to you if you need help. He also grades pretty leniently comparatively to other math teachers I've had. Trig isn't easy so you'll need to put effort in regardless. I'd recommend him.
Great Teacher. Gives you all the information you need to pass. Doesn't check homework but you must do it if you want to pass. Very clear and encourages students to ask questions.5 exams and drops the lowest exam and replaces it with final. I passed with an A.
Overall, he is a good and clear teacher but his tests can be hard. He likes to see his students fail in all honesty so be prepared to do the homework because he puts hard questions on his tests and go to every class.
I took his College Algebra Class, thought he explains everything pretty clear and I should know the content. I was lucky and just passed with a 69.9%. During the next semester took his MAC2233 class and totally failed. Class seemed very easy but the exams were really hard, and he doesnt seem to care that people fail. I would not recommend him!
I went only to a handful of lectures. I used the online homework to study and aced every test (I'm no genius). He doesn't try to trick you or fail you in college algebra. Practice and you should pass.
Go to class because he's VERY picky on how you show work on your tests. Only grades in this class are the tests. Hw is online, but only there for practice. Do that homework and go to class and you'll ace this class.
He is a great professor! Make sure to go to EVERY class lecture and DO THE HOMEWORK!!!! If you do these two things you will definitely ace this class. He Is very helpful and will stay on a topic until you understand it.
very tough grader on tests, but his lecutures are very clear. there is no way to pass his class if you dont sit down and do problems yourself. home work is not mandatory.
I am very good at math and have never been one to study for tests and still receive adequate grades. This instructor made his class much more difficult than necessary. Since I never showed up to class I was unaware that even if you got a question right, if you did not solve a question the way he wanted you to IT WAS AUTOMATICALLY WRONG.
He is a cynical man who understands his subject but appears to be disdainful in teaching and is clear but dry in instruction. His exams are difficult because they require a lot of conceptual understanding of the topics which is in my opinion the most difficult part of math. Not very helpful, take if you're good at math and avoid if not.
I am already not that great at math and if you are like me who is completely "any math with the last letters being -ometry challenged" then DO NOT take his class. He will expect you to do the problems his way or the highway! And if you don't he will mark it wrong on the test. The HW is not graded and his tests are not a walk in the park.
Horrible teacher. Not only are you going to sit through the most boring lecture you've ever encountered, but his tests are near impossible. The most simple answers must be explained more complex then ever. You will never receive more then a 90 on his tests.
DO NOT TAKE. He Is an extremely out of date teacher who does not care if you pass and his test are unnecessarily hard for the material being taught.
As mentioned, tests are unnecessarily difficult, very conceptual, definitely avoid this professor if there are other options.
The guy honestly is one of the most difficult teachers to have. He does a very poor job at spiking interest in students, his tests are very difficult, and he doesn't really review for them. There's online homework and written work(written not mandatory). Doesn't give any extra credit or curve any of his tests even if the averages are terrible.
If you're good at math, you'll be hold up in this class. If not, stay away from this teacher. He's not the kind of teacher you can ask questions to without getting a cynical remark thrown at you.
He is the WORST possible teacher EVER! I would not recommend him to my worst enemy! I ended up dropping his class. He teaches very fast and expects you to know the material right then and there. I was having trouble so I emailed him and asked him for help. He practically wrote back and called me stupid. He's rude and sucks at caring for students.
Calculus is hard so people automatically hate the professor. However, this professor is one of the few professors at FIU with NO accent so you can actually understand him. He explains everything very well so it's just up to you to do all the homework. If you do the homework and use that to study, you can get an A guaranteed.
REALLY LOVES MATH.
No good. Doesn't really care about his students so just find another professor. No accent Teheran doesn't equal great teacher. Make sure you stay clear, beware! This isn't the professor you should take if you're weak in math
Not a BAD GUY but horrible professor, you have to do 100 homework problem from the textbook and he doesn't grade it or give you credit for it..
Idk how this guys is able to teach anyone. I tutored people in my class that got better grades than I did which seems impossible. Very condescending, rambles on about how messed up the grading system at the school is etc. HW is nearly mandatory but for no credit, only grades are the tests. Skipped our midterm and only gave us 4 tests with the final
