Sorry to say this class is not for slackers. If your not good at math, think twice befor taking this class. All i can say is he bases his grades on test ONLY!! He is a great teacherand all, and he availble for any help. He can teach greatly..Just study study study..and you'll BE FINE..

Challenging course. He's nerdy but he knows his stuff... If you don't do the Homework you fail. Trust me. Unless you're like a super gifted person, then you're alright.

Great guy and great teacher, will go out of his way to try to help you, but test are HARD, do not underertimate them. definatly cannot slack in this class even in the slightest, make sure you get to every lecture and do all homework or youll be taking it again

If you want to learn something, do your self a favor and take professor Orr. If you want to be babied and have the class "dumbed down", take someone else and then fail the next level math class you need because you got an A for learning nothing. The choice is yours.

In response to the last poster: 1)The course is a review of high school algebra. Therefore, it should not be too hard because of a supposed familiarity with the material. 2)Good professors challenge their students! Too many MCD'ers think it should be a free ride. Hit the books and do some work for a change!

He explains the work clearly. He is a hard ass though, grade is only based on your test scores and nother else. He did try graded HW online that was worth 20% of your grade, don't know if he kept doing that though.

Like mentioned before, although he grades pretty stricktly he has been so far the best math teacher I have had at MDC for a long time now. To begin he speaks clear english, so is eary to understand, he is really thorough on the material. People expect to pass the class without putting an effort on their own when they leave the classroom. MATH !!

listen first of all, major is a engineer and 3.5 gpa. i never did homework for all calc. and passed with A's. this guy can explain reall good will help u if u need any. but come on , his test are reall FREAKING hard. and i did do my****..for reall i think like 2 or 3 people pass the class. why make the test that HARD?? F^%*K my GPA went down.

Well I must say. I was scared to take calculus although I love math because of my precal/trig class. However, Prof. Orr made the material understandable. He is very clear and you get the theoretical concepts behind everything although he doesn't test that. He is a hard tester, and very picky in the grading but if you work hard you will be fine.

Prof Orr is probably the best in the math department but i dont know if its worth it to be tested the way he does. Prof Orr is the best math teacher i've ever had. his tests are not that hard but nobody wants to study. if you do the homework in his class, u will get an A. many problems in the tests are actually part of the homework. he explains like no other and is also funny, never misses a class, is always on time and is very respectful.

I had him for calc 3, sure his exams are not easy, but the only time I really decided to do all the homework I got a 98. After completing calculus, I consider that I know more math than most of my friends that had "easy teachers". If you want to learn, and want to be challenge, he is the man. I got an A, and it was not easy, but not impossible.

ORR+YOUR GPA= PWN3D, avoid him if possiable!

I took him for Calc. 1 over the summer. I ended up dropping the class because of personal circumstances, but if those would have not came up I would have stuck it out. This professor is better than any math teacher I have had at Florida State and gives you a greater understanding of Calculus. His tests are hard so doing the homework is essential.

if you relly want to learn math take him, but if you do not like math and you just need to pass the class take another proffesor because you need to know everything for the test, I really like him, but I understand that his class is not easy at all.(you need to do all the HW for sure).

The best math professor I've ever had. Like most people say, his tests are from hell. Doing the homework is mandatory for passing the class even though they're not graded. He announced on the first day that you WILL NOT pass the class if you don't do the homework. If you are going to pursue mathematics at a higher university level, take prof Orr.

Professor Orr is the best Match teacher at MDC!!! He explains everything crystal clear and its always there for help if you need anything. If you are not understanding something, GO TO OFFICE HOURS!!! He will help you! I would recommend him to anyone, he is an awesome professor!

Trig man He doesnot give out review for the test. Have to dedicate time effort towards this class. Think Twice before taking him. As a last resort!! have to attend the class to understand. I actually learned from his class.

I was a math tutor and i had alot of previous knowledge of trigonometry but passed his class with a B after ALOT of effort. The material is really hard and his tests are hard as well but he answers your questions very well.

I have never had such an immature, obsessive-compulsive, rude, condescending and arrogant professor before. You can't pay me enough to recommend him - EVER. As for the quality in teaching, trust me it's not worth it. I've seen way better (Cabezas) with not nearly as much hassle. Under no circumstances is he a good professor!!!

Probably the best professor I've had so far. Unfortunately, I found his tests to be pretty difficult. He not only teaches well in class but is always free during his office hours for assistance (I wonder why.../sarcasm) It's nice to actually enjoy math for once.

He is not a bad professor, but if you bascially suck at math then dont take his class. The only things that counts toward your grade in his class are the tests which is unfair in my opinion. The homework should count towards the grade as well. But if your good at math and do well on tests then I can say this is the class for you.

Another poster said this professor should count homework towards your grade. That's a bunch of high school nonsense and it is obvious that the posters' opinion means nothing. Prof. Orr is great! He knows his stuff, presents it well, tests fairly, treats people like adults, and is very helpful. You cannot ask for anything more.

i got to be honest, eventough I did not pass the class I highly recommend him, I did not study, That is why I did not pass but he REALLY KNOW HOW TO TEACH AND MAKE THE CLASS INTERESTING!!! take him if you like math and like to study (or have time to).

Amazing Calculus 3 teacher. It's true, most people didn't pass the class but mostly becasue they either didn't know calc. 2 or because they didn't care. If you just paid attention to class you could easily get an A. Very clear, nice lectures, strict but worth it. And very challanging for someone who truly loves math.

To be honest he is very clear on the subject matter. I am good in math but I had to literally spend my whole nights and days studying for his test. The class started out with 40 people and at the end 6 people took the test and only 3 passed and I was one who passed with the highest grade, "C". The test are very hard & hass stuff he doesn't teach.

Never paid much attention in class only because I already knew most of the material. Alot of people had to drop his class due to their test scores. YOU MUST STUDY FOR EACH AND EVERY TEST IN ORDER TO PASS THE CLASS! His final was alot easier than I thought, it consisted mostly of the examples in the book and he gives you extra points.

Unless you are a Math major, DONT TAKE THIS CLASS! I took him bc as others said, "he helps you understand the subject," but I beg to differ. I had alot of questions and it's almost as if he was fustrated with me, on the last exam I took he wrote on the top of my paper "you couldn't pass this test, even if you wanted too." I felt stupid after that.

will claerly teach you the subject t where you will understand it then his tests are the hardest tests you will ever take. the questons on the tests are the hardest ones he can come up with. he will help you in his office as best he can.

I took him 4 trig in 6week summer class. I got an A, most of the class didn't survive to the end. If you want to learn math and are dedicated, take him. You will have to work hard in his class. Tests are difficult. His grading is more than fair. The Final has 20 extra bonus points and it counts twice. His easiness is a 2-3. not a 5. Go to MathLab!!

I got an A with him, but he's pretty difficult. You have to be willing to study hard and dedicate a lot of time to this course. Otherwise it's not for you! Take the class in another campus if you have to.

this prof. explains really good but he doesn't give any extra credits at all nor gives any credit for the homework (which you gotta do or else you will not understand the exercises)...need a lot of time to practice and attend the math lab if you want to pass...don't miss ONE class or else you will be lost...math is not an easy subject!!!

You definitely learn the material in his class and by far is the best math teacher ive had because he knows how to teach but is picky. Of course slackers who only want a good GPA do not take him, so when you need math and not learn its your fault. I recommend do all problems in the book and there will be no surprises on the test. =)

Bottom line, if you are not good at math, avoid this teacher. He is a great math teacher, but for students who are well aware of what's going on. If you struggle in math, he will be useless to you.

. honestly if u do the problems he assigns in the book u will pass the class. The man knows how 2 teach crystal clear & is available in his office hours all the time, yes! Majority of the class drops out but thats cuz they don't practice i have little knowledge of .

i got 46 on my first test, which is my lowest whereas my highest is 80.he gives 5 tests and a comprehensive final which will replace your lowest score. I LOVE HIS GRADING SCALE:74%is already a B ..... (:

Orr is the best math teacher I have ever had. Whoever says his class is difficult really doesn't know what they are talking about. He explains everything in class, and if you do some of the questions on the homework, you should be fine. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Took Pre-Cal with him. He is a great teacher, he knows his stuff. But his teaching and home work has nothing to do on the test. His test are HARD. The class started with 40 kids, 20 dropped. 5 passed. I don't reccomend taking him at all.

This professor is tough. His lectures are conceptually good BUT he expects the same exact effort put towards your test. He is a critical grader and that statement is being modest. If you're looking for an easy PASS. DO NOT take this professor. If you're really interested in learning the subject thourougly, then I reccomend him.

Best Math prof. I ever had! Tough, yes, but he is a very good teacher, explains the material clearly and well, and knows his math. all those bad raters out there are students looking for an easy A. Somewhat difficult class, but great professor. Very clear, knows how to teach, and I don't think his exams were unfair. The best math professor I've had so far.

Awesome professor. Extremely knowledgeable and objective in his lectures. People that complain don't realize THEY have to learn the material. He can only go as far as teaching it, and that he does amazingly. You'll need to study, but you won't be alone: he is ALWAYS available in office hours, even on the same days of the tests. 100% recommended!!

Avoid this professor like the plague if you're looking for an easy pass or you're uninterested in math. If you're looking to actually UNDERSTAND and you're willing to deal with the homework, I think he's one of the best professors in the entire school.

If it wasn't for Orr, I would not have survived my future math classes. Other math teachers let students slide past their classes without learning. Orr will make sure you know the material. The most important thing I learned, however, wasn't the material he taught me. It was how much I need to actually retain to say that I "know" something.

Great teacher! Best I've ever had. Taught me what real studying was about. I took Cal 1 with a slacker professor at Dade that allowed formula sheets, and failed, took the class with Orr and got an A. A good teacher that pushes his students, is hard to find today. If you want to move on prepared, I highly recommend his class. Slackers beware!

This professor is extremely HARD!! Im a straight A person and I got a C. I studied REALLY hard for each test. They are not multiple choice and he takes away points for ridiculous mistakes. Trust me, no one gets a perfect test. He makes sure of it. The final is a killer! However, he teaches really well, and you learn a lot!

His class is difficult if you dont complete the hw. He normally uses the hardest questions from the hw on the test. But every class he gives you time to ask him any questions from the hw. As long as you understand the hw you can pass. I got an A in his class, but math is my best subject.

Excellent at explaining concepts and while he isn't an easy professor, his exams are fair. If you don't do the homework, you'll probably fail, but if you do, he will never throw something at you that you aren't familiar with.

I like Orr when he sticks to the lesson and class material. He is a bit arrogant, pompous, elitist, and somewhat disrespectful to the students when you ask a seemingly obvious question. Which is no real problem. Other than that he is great with a white board and marker. He does not really leave you out to dry in his class.

If you want to devote a lot of time to this class to get the grade, go for it. If not, don't do it.

This professor know his subject well, and for that I respect him! However, his class is very difficult to pass, on account of it's only based on 5 test and attendance. On the other hand, he is very clear on the subject, also consistent and punctual with his office hours. textbook required; HW that is not graded just utilized for practice and review

This Professor is AWESOME! Takes his time to great, knows what make sure go goes over all the material. The reason why people don't like him is because they don't study... if you really wanna learn math.. Take Him! I got A's in both courses... the class is doable if you put time and effort. If you're not a MATH<CHEM<PHYSICS major dont take him.

Orr is an amazing teacher. He knows the subject very well and explains it with clarity. If you're not understanding a section, you can swing by during his office hours and he'll gladly help you. Most students complain how hard the class is and they're usually the ones that don't put in the time to practice at all.

Besides you will never get a perfect score in his tests ,I thing he is an amazing teacher. If you want to learn trigonometry you must take him.

Expects your algebra to be flawless. If you ask any question, he answers in a condescending way, but you can tell hes just really smart almost cocky?Good teacher/class but you need to try really hard and pay attention. Doesn't grade hw, just tests. He is punctual and will drop/withdraw you if you fail your first tests or dont show up.

Professor Orr is notorious for being condescending. Attendance IS mandatory and he WILL drop if you miss or fail a test. He explains things very well and clearly but is VERY VERY cocky and condescending when asked questions and does not like to spend much time answering them. AVOID him if you can, his tests are REALLY hard but will drop one.

EXTREMELY HARD TESTS! He is kind of cocky and doesnt like to spend alot of time on questions. He is very strict on attendance and will drop one test and replace with final grade. He basically thinks everyone there should be as smart as him. He's a good professor, he obviously understands the material and has a passion for it but he needs to understand that not everyone is as smart as him. Tests are REALLY tough. Professor Orr is really tough, but you will learn A LOT with him. He's very clear . I love this class . Be ready for show your work exams, no multiple choices in his tests.

I was only A among 45 students,13 of them made it to the final &11passed. I went to an elite science's school in my country n yet he is hardest prof I've had. Trade off is you will have the best training in math for any future science class. If in a class everybody getsA,beware,you are probably getting substandard education. Go to school to learn.

His lectures are pretty descriptive, he gives you the opportunity to ask him questions after class and he will help you. He grades on a fair curve. The only thing that I would change is that he teaches new material right before a test, he knows students don't like it in not sure why he does it. Overall, good experience, would recommend.

The reality is that if you want a challenge take Prof. Orr. He's tests are harder than other calc instructors , and he cab be a tough grader. There is no sort of extra credit, and doing the homework is a must to pass the tests , even tough it is not counted as a grade. If you don'd have time to do 100 problems before each class, don't take him. He's a good professor and know's his stuff but he is a tough grader. Homework problems are the extremely similar to the ones on the test, there are 5 test and a mandatory final but he drops the lowest grade and replaces it with the final.

Professor Orr is very tough as most have stated. However, if you're willing to put in the effort you can pass his class, and you will be thoroughly prepared for future math courses. One of the best professors ever! He is a very smart person. I was scared reading these comments, but I realized he is nothing like that. He is more than willing to help if you show that you work hard. He even curves the grade at the end. If you major involves any math, take him; he will give you a great foundation and understanding of math.

I was always ass in math, but for the first time ever I ended up with an A! He makes the class fairly easy, and understandable! He always accommodates for the class such as switching test date and HW deadlines for the convenience of the class. He truly cares and is just amazing! I really wish I could take him for STAT! It's certain that if u take Professor Orr's class you'll have to do a lot of H.W. but he's the best professor I've had, he comes prepared to class & explains the theorem behind the process precisely and clear and I've learn to analyze instead of just memorizing. I really recommend him for those who want to learn Math & keep the knowledge

To be honest professor orr is not as hard as people described him here but still it doesn't mean that his class is easy. He can overcomolicated even a simple subject like solving inequalities. To make matters worse in the test he always looked for the hardest questions, or at least the trickiest one. Watch out for that and you should be fine.

I took his trig class for six weeks and it was one of the most difficult classes Ive ever had. Hes a fantastic math professor if you put in the work, but his class is not for the faint of heart. Do all the homework and study hard.

Professor Orr is a toughest grader in MDC. You really have to work very hard to earn a good grade. I enjoyed this class because I love math and I'm majoring as a computer engineering. His test are based on the Homework and they're are super hard because as a computer engineering, you have to know derivatives and integrals

I took 2 classes with Mr. Orr and he was amazing and well knowledge in the material. You have to study very hard and do the homework. If you do all the homework you will pass the class. Very nice and we'll educate professor. I got A and only 3 students passed the class. Good luck :)

He starts the beginning of the class by answering questions about previous sections, so use that time if you're struggling with something. Your grade will be calculated by only 5 tests, but he replaces the lowest one with the final, which proves to be very helpful.

I took Prof. Orr from 1990 to 1992; from Mac 2312, 2313, Mas 2103, and Map 2302. It was a lot of work for me because I was in my 30's. I am thankful, that he made us work hard, because he is the main reason that I graduated from FIU with a BSCE! Keep up the good work Prof. Orr, your tough classes do make a difference!

He's an amazing math professor, he knows the material, he answers questions. It's a hard class because all grades come from test, so you have to study hard. But if you want to learn, he is for you.

Professor Orr is a really great professor. His lectures are very clear and he is accessible during office hours to help you. He gives a lot of homework but you have a few days to do it. The tests are not too hard as long as you do the homework and study. He lets everyone know how they did on the previous test as soon as he grades it.

He's very straightforward and is one of the best because of it. If you know Algebra 1, you should have no problem passing his class with flying colors. If you don't (and he will tell you himself), you are better off taking another class. Explains things clearly and only grades based on quizzes and final (5-6 total). Answers any homework questions.

Listen, I decided to take prof Orr at MDC as a transient student because everyone warned me of taking the class at my uni. Trig itself is difficult. This semester started with about 27 students and the day of the final, there are only 10 left. If you want an easy a, this isnt it. He helps you understand the material and learn but it COMES DOWN TOU

Great professional, clear, and always willing to clarify and help his students. The class is HARD, but he is an awesome teacher. Take him if you wanna learn but be mindful, he is a tough grader and he expect you to know your bases. So dont expect curving grades or free extra credit, it won't happen. You want it, you earn it.
