Confusing, repetitive - He should stick to teaching Dance
I agree he repeated things often, made class confusing and very hard!! Not that great of a teacher
No Comments
A thoughtful course that requires you to juxtapose all that you learn and "apply" it in the three exams offered. It is not enough to learn, you must *understand* the philosophy. His teaching is a bit rehearsed though.
class was pretty easy, but he made it harder than it shoulda been, got a B without doing anything... you might wanna bring a pillow along though, although often enthusiastic, piche is a boring mother!
he's not that great of a dance teacher either.
Boring material, not very friendly person, and very argumentive!
I liked his class a great deal. He makes logic interesting, and always keeps you challenged and involved- assuming you are willing to do the work to keep up. Recommended, if you're not afraid of having to actually *think* in class.
I did well in his class, but it was inspite of his teching. I think he has immense knowledge but has no idea how to convey it back to students. He makes students who aren't understanding the lecture feel like idiots.
this guy looks like Mr. DOOEY from Saved by the Bell. the nerdy looking teacher who had to practice his tryouts for American Gladiators by chopping a pencil in half. Real Boring. The first three weeks of class seemed like the same thing over and over!
this guy is ****ing awesome. he'll make you critically analyize and re-evaluate your own beliefs on everything. not a hard class, but no slacker's class either. jocks and foreign exchange students need not apply unless you have the ****.
He was a great teacher, his sense of humor is awesome. Its not a slacker class but not too hard. You need to show up everyday and pay attention, but he breaks the boring parts that occure with funny stories. I plan to take another class with him.
I really enjoyed this class. It was about knowledge and reality. I found the lectures stimulating, and his stories interesting. Sense of humor is a little dry
this class was intimidating to me at first but once we got into it it was interesting and his stories about his family were SOOO FUNNY! he gave great examples and made it easy to relate things to real life.
He insists of using stories that include dead animals in his lectures. Unless you think that's a good time, don't take his class.
He is a little bitter, a little boring, but I learned from the class and he grades on a heavy curve. I am glad I took this class.
Very bad teacher. He does not stay on topic, and he makes you feel dumb if you ask him to repeat something in his lecture. His tests are very hard. Very boring class. He tells stupid jokes and stories that make people fall asleep. He never stays on topic.
tough, but definitely makes you learn the material if you pay attention. Dry, sarcastic humor as well
Funny guy. Not easy, but very entertaining. Little homework. A note about Philosophy 115: it's more of a math class than anything else. If you're looking to discuss ideas, take a different philosophy course.
He is a great teacher. It's the material that is hard. But once you get it, its simple. He goes over it a lot if you don't understand. Almost no homework and splits the manditory 10 page paper into 10 simple homework assignments. Best pick.
if you go to every class and participate you will get an A. if you are good at math you will love this class. if you don't do well in this class you should just drop out of school and save your money.
THIS GUY IS THE MAN!! funny as heck class and very interesting. Passes everybody if you go to class and try. I got an 82% and he gave me an A. A little wacky but makes a dry subject a fantastic learning experience.
No homework, only reading but much of it didnt seem to even go with the lecture and tests. Tests are hard and you really have to memorize things to get it right. The material is very confusing and he never remembers where he left off.Not recommended!!
I thought that he was very chauvanistic and dropped out of the class as I thought that I wouldn't be able to stand being degraded all semester
DONT TAKE HIM! Very unorganized/unclear. Tests are extremely difficult, does not prepare you well enough. Goes off on tangents and you dont know what material is important. I got 100% in phil 100 and an F in phil 101, i doubt i became stupid in 1 semester
If you think you have common sense, you won't after this class (and it's a good thing). This guy is hilarious. Goes over everything step by step. Don't fall behind, because it's very hard to catch up otherwise. Truly an interesting class.
He makes sure that everybody who says that they are struggling gets a clear understanding of the subject. Funny and goes on many relevant tangents. With a little work everyone who leaves his class will be master logicians. A great teacher!
The word "BORING" is what this class and this teacher is all about. I have gottne so much sleep in a class before in my life. Lectures have nothing to do with the tests. If you can take someone else...DO IT!
This is one of two teachers I remember at Palomar. His stories are great, he's funny, and there is low workload. Anybody that has a problem with this guy will have issues getting out of junior college.
Great teacher! Absolutely hilarious. He will stay on a subject until everyone in the class gets it, but if you don't let him know you don't get it you will be left behind. Some people think he makes you feel stupid, but he doesn't; He only points out errors in your logic...he's a logic professor.
Took Mr. Piche's Philosopy 115 class ("Logic and Critical Thinking"). Good class, but *very* hard tests! Took to meet Critical Thinking req., but if you need work on writing, English 202 (or 203) would be a better choice. Nevertheless, a good class (textbook could be better). He makes you learn.
His tests are very hard and he gets off on random stories all the time that have nothin to do with the class. I had no idea what I was going to get in his class and I got a B. I didnt study that much and missed some classes, most people end up passing.
Teacher was constantly going off subject. Tests had no correlation to class discussions. Constantly called himself a ****. Constantly talked about dead animals. kind of creepy. But his class is pretty hard to fail.
Went over everything clearly. funny guy. Tests are really hard, but he grades on a curve. Subject worth taking, teacher worth having.
Piche is good people
Took his classes back in the 80s, FINALLY got logic, remember philosophy clearly enough to think “I HEART Huckabees” is funny! Great teacher, remember him to this day.
everyone should experience piche, one of the few teachers you can look back on and remember random, interesting stories. His teaching style is suggestive, and gives students freedom to find out what the subject matter means to them, his tests are a joke, i think....
Very funny man, but doesn't make him a wonderful professor. His stories will wake you up if you are lucky enough to get one of his 8:00 am classes. Extremely hard tests! If you don't understand philosophy, there is no way you can pass. I would reccommend him to those majoring in philosophy and good luck to those who aren't.
Piche is a good teacher. He may come across as a bit grumpy at first but just get to know him a bit. You'll learn to love him.
GREAT Class... if you want a little change up from your normal terrible palomar classes try piche he rocks. funny and has a lot to teach. if your planning on grad school this is the class to take to start getting you ready for the lsat, gre or other grad school tests. theres no work just a few concepts you have to learn in class for the test.
Stupidest class I ever took. This teacher makes me never want to take another Phil class again. He talks out of his butt and what were his tests about.I went to every class, tried to interact by asking question, and tried to stay awake and I ended up with a C.Take any other teacher but Piche.
LECTURES COVER NOTHING ON TEST...CLASS VERY BORING...
You've got to experience Don Piche on two levels. One he's a great logician, I loved his classes and his stories. But then you've got to take ballroom dance with him and Tish. They're amazing and you'll come out a dancer to boot. Both my wife and I have taken both classes and we thought he was great. He doesn't give away A's but anyone who works at it will earn one.
This man taught me more about Philosophy--and fire-walking--than I ever knew before!
This teacher is not helpful, made students feel like idiots when asking questions.I went to every class tried to understand. Most of my class got D's or F's on 2 out of 3 tests so there must have been a major curve on the final because we all came out passing--I have no idea how. Would never take him again!!!! Thank god he's retiring soon!
piche is one of those rare teachers. EXTREMELY difficult for one who does not understand logic from a few Uneligible scribbles on the blackboard. but in retrospect, if you are looking to take a class to make you laugh/think and hear wonderful stories, logic with piche is a good choice. piche is one of the most intelligent persons' i have ever met-a
Dr. Piche is brilliant, and he knows it. He's passionate about logic, and dispassionate about his students. He conveys little patience or interest in students who are challenged by the subject matter, but seems to "click" with programmers and others to whom symbolic logic comes easily. He should be teaching at Harvard or Berkeley.
Take this class if you want to feel like an idiot, waste your time, and come away learning nothing. If philosophy is not one of our strong subjects get a teacher who is easier to understand.Take any other class but this class. I am an A student and got a C in the class.
pretty good teacher. sometimes seems like he is full of himself, but all in all he seems pretty fair. if you show up then his class is easy. doesn't take roll. he's the sort of teacher you either really like or just hate with a passion. if you take any of his classes you'll probably hear about his "piche-ness". pretty cool teacher all in all though
This guy is a great teacher, He knows what he is talking about and the lectures can really blow your mind if you listen. Its one of my favorite classes and subjects after taking his class. Some call him "sick" well personally I think there should be more "sick" people out there.
piche is a very interesting teacher. hes funny but the tests are somewhat hard but if you go to class and take notes you'll do fine. oh and he doesnt write much on the board so listen carefully!
the class was very uninterested, he didn't put any effort on his lectures.... boring!!!
He is an Arrogant **** He states that if you go to class and pay attention you will due fine in the class But the problem is he Puts students in groups and asks you to work together for the whole class and when you ask him a question about somthing you dont undertsand instead of being compassionate and help he gets frustrated and angry. You shou
Piche is a great teacher, sometimes his methods are a little off but all the arrogance a ****ness are all in fun. If you go to class, than you will pass and learn alot about logic. C->(P+L). If you dont go to class then you will be left choking on the intelectual dust of those who do and you will fail -C->(D+F)
This class is pretty hard, but he is an easy grader. He is a good teacher but it is just a hard concept to grasp for most people. If you are good at math you will probably do well in this class. He is a good guy though.
worst teacher I've ever had...course material is difficult to understand and he is completely unwilling to help you. He doesn't have office hours, is rude and tells you if you only come to class you'll get a good grade which is not true. Very boring class and he wings his lectures and is hard to understand- definitely don't take him!!!
He really isn't a helpful teacher, and is a bit arrogant... i was also surprised at his political decisions, being a LOGIC teacher and all. Anyway, that aside, I would take a different class if you can, but if you work hard and bite your tounge at his arrogance and uselessness, you should get an C or above

I actually enjoyed this class alot. If you like hands on classes and learn well through experience then you should do well in this class. There is not anything on the tests that you did not do yourself in class. Be sure you go to class you wont pass the class if you miss many days.
This teacher is awesome. I've learned so much and have really enjoyed his class. I've been taking it for a few years now and he's the best teacher around that I've seen. You really need to take this class more than once to get a hang of it and get better. I'm just starting to get good after 5 semesters.

No kidding...all he did was talk the WHOLE semester. We did not get ONE single test until 3 weeks prior to the last day of class. No joke! Everyone failed.funny guy. His examples are hilarious. last day was final exam which I know I failed but the essay which was talk about what you learned makes your grade.got a B in the class cuz of the essay
Piche is a great teacher. He says it like it is and if you can't deal with it don't take him. Wierd but great sense of humor. Made class interesting and fun
Hard to follow. Completely don't care about student learning.
i have no idea why his easy rating is so low. he is so awesome and easy. just show up to class and listen to what he has to say. itrs true he forgets to give tests but he doenst care if you fail. i failed both of them and i didnt even turn in an essay and i still got a c. this guy is the best you HAVE to take phil with him.. easy and fun
Easy if you come to class and pay attention. He can be short with students but only if you don't learn the rules that he teaches, he can't force you to memorize these things. He is a funny guy and more than helpful if you have a real question beyond memorization
He is brilliant and well versed
Great Prof! He's really funny if you can appreciate a slightly nutty sense of humor. He'll let you know if you make a mistake by yelling WRONG! but he does it to everyone, so don't ever take it personally (and he probably thinks its funny...which it is). You learn a lot in his Logic class, but he gives you practice time in class. Tests are easy.
Got good coordination & learn easily by watching? Take it. If UR spatially challenged/klutz - DON't. NO foot placement diagrams. IF u can follow u?ll have fun. Can't, it?s YOUR fault cuz u didn?t practice enough. Asking ?s outside of class = DON't. Take class w/friends ? if you mis a move, HOPEFULLY they didn't. If u develop pain STOP & get help.
Very disappointment. Had an A the entire semester and for final, and he gave me a C. I wrote him in an email but he never responded. Think he confused me with another student. Does he answer his phone? No. His style is okay but isn't the best. Was happy about the class until he messed up and now couldn't fix it.
Piche is awsome. He's down to earth, real as it gets, and is never trying to "sell you" information. I think it comes more down to the people in the class, rather than him, himself. He's a brilliant man, and the class is exciting to show up to every morning. Sign up if your ready to learn. He's great
Piche had me laughing all semester. His class is easy going....the tests arent too difficult but plan on studying alot. Your WHOLE grade is based off these tests. If your a bad test taker i wouldnt recommend his calss
Don Piche is an arrogant and unpleasant little man who bullies and demeans others, possibly in an attempt to diguise his insecurity over his small stature.
Piche is amazing. If you're so thin-skinned that hearing "Wrong!" hurts your feelings, don't take Piche. Otherwise, Piche is a brilliant, funny teacher. Take his classes! Your grade in Phil 120 is entirely based on tests. The rest of the time, you are working on the boards with 4 other people preparing for the test.
Piche is the best. He has really good stories and is easy to listen and pay attention to. He is a crotchety old man, as others have said, but not at all in a bad way. He's not mean, just mildly acerbic and funny. I had no interest in Logic/Critical Thinking before his class and he managed to make it interesting.
I hate this man with all of my soul. He made us buy 3 books that we NEVER USED. We listened to him talk for 3 months before we actually had a test, which had all kinds of things he never talked about in class. On the last day we were so far behind we had to take 2 tests. Avoid this class at all costs, seriously. This guy is an unhelpful jerk.
He ends up going on lots of tangents. But in the end, he's a very informative teacher. I took him for Logic, and then again for Knowledge&Reality. Really enjoyed his teaching style. Books are unimportant.
I liked Piche for the most part...He does tend to talk A LOT, but his stories can be very funny if you can appreciate his humor. I thought he was a great teacher overall.
Uh, hello? the guy is a PHILOSOPHY prof, so yea, he talks a lot. Jeez. He should be at a university where more people might understand his humor and very wide-ranging knowledge. I was fascinated in every class session. Also, I think I learned a lot about the subject, because the explanations were great if you pay attention. And my grade was fine
Pretty funny old dude. No homework, doesn't take attendance(or bother to learn names), 4 quizzes(including the 2 on the day of the final), & tells a lot of stories/jokes. The quizzes were pretty difficult so just practice the material and you will do fine!
This class is not for slackers; if all you do is go to class, and never open the textbook, don't bother. You'll fail, like the guy below me did. Piche warns that if you don't study outside class, "you'll be left choking in the intellectual dust." The only way to master the material is to practice it. Do the work, and the class is real enjoyable.
This class is actually fun. Its a THINKING class. He doesn't leave homework but you have to PRACTICE on your own. Every class is engaging and he's also really funny. If you dont study you will be left in the "intellectual dust" of the other students. Once you get the material your solid for the rest of the class. 4 tests total and practice!!
Did you know he also teaches ballroom dancing? (And charm!) Interesting prof with lots of stories. Very clear covering book material and has students do lots of drill during class. Grades only on tests. Worksheets/text exercises are great test prep. Easy class for math/CS majors. If you're not paying attention he'll make sure everybody knows. :)
Bottom line is that you need to show up for class; he doesn't assign homework, the activities in class will abet you greatly, and his lectures are identical to the tests. Follow the syllabus, don't expect surprises, and don't be rude, because he won't put up with it. That's basically it. If Math isn't your strong suit I wouldn't recommend it.
Generally, Philosophy 120 is a class that either you get, or you don't, due to its reasoning methods. Even if you're not great at logic to begin with, if you always pay attention in lectures and ask questions, he won't rest until the material makes sense. Even if class isn't mandatory, make sure you go or you'll be lost the whole semester.
He understands his material and his students, in the most realistic of respects. That understanding is translated into a concise lecture, one in which in a very literal sense, no student is left behind (unless they don't attend class or study the material).
If you are dumb, just don't take the class. He explains logic very clearly and he also will make fun of you, which can be pretty entertaining. All in all, great class and logic came pretty easily to me.
I took his symbolic logic class 30 years ago. I loved it and found it very easy. Also the book, back then at least, was small so that was another plus! I am glad to see he is still teaching. (i could be wrong on the course number, they may have changed since then). He was a brilliant and entertaining instructor.
I took this class years ago and barely passed it, but I'm glad I kept the book to use it for my GMAT test. basically try learning this class since you will be using it for either future TESTS or any otherdecision making situation in your life. Plus Prof. Piche is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I'm so glad he's still teaching.I owe him a lot.
Very funny storyteller, entertaining. Pay attention in class, study up on what you don't understand and you'll be fine. No real homework, tests are challenging but not impossible. Piche is great, he gives you plenty of time in class near the end of the semester to practice in groups.
Pretty sure he retired but this class was awesome. There was no homework. All the class was group work that was fairly easy
I really dug Piche. Hes funny and cool. His class was interesting. It just did nothing to prep. me for UCLA. Also, when I got to UCLA, they looked at the class and his syllabus, rejected it for credit, and made me retake the class at UCLA, which was much more difficult. I ended up having to take summer classes to graduate in time for this reason.
