I also had him for MAC 1105. He is very clear, prompt, and courteous. He is always willing to give extra help or give allowances when necessary. He requires regular attendance and full homework completion. I learned a lot in both classes.
i took him for summer intermediate algebra and he gave me an F. Very boreing. Dull.
I had him in the summer for Liberal arts math, although he is boring and dull, he is clean cut with the work and if you do the work and study, it should be a breeze
I cried when I made an A in this class. He is very boring but is very willing to help you learn the material. Pay attention, study for tests, and you'll do well.
systematic
Slow start, but very steady in his teaching. Very helpful, occasionally makes trig look a little too easy, but willing to explain it all. Gives good review for occasional tests, and extra credit for completed homework. Definitely a good choice.
He is very nice, a lot of homework problems, but he gives study guides that are very similar to the tests. He gives extra points if you do your homework....
Awesome teacher, willing to help give chances to get extra credit. Explains everything really well.
Overall is a good teacher. Is willing to help anyone who needs it. Tests are a little to easy when compared to other teachers. Would definitely recommend him for trig. though I have heard that he is hard on the lower level math courses.
Great teacher! If u attend classes and listen you will do great

wonderful professor! ive always hated math and he makes everything sooo clear that its easy to understand. he helps even more with real good practice tests, and is always willing to help. GREAT TEACHER !!
I had him for the summer semester and I only have to say that although he was actually good at lecturing he doesn't really curve your grades. So, study hard to pass. I had a hard time bouncing from work and school and being the Summer Semester had to go through Hell to keep up. Keep that in mind when picking this teacher.
Very nice and helpful! Great teacher for Liberal Arts 1 & 2 :)!
great!!!!!!!!! learned lots
Great professor! He's such a nice guy and very helpful! Your attendance is usually based on the quizzes he gives in class. You'll have no regrets!
I wouldn't suggest taking him!!! If you need algebra definitely take Scott Berthaume! He is the man! I got a C in Ransfords class and an A in professor B's class!!!
THIS PROFESSOR IS VERY GOOD AT WHAT HE DOES IN THE CLASS ROOM. IF YOU NEED HELP HE IS THERE TO DO SO. HE IS ALWAYS PROMPT ON HOMEWORK AND TESTS AND WHAT IS TO BE GONE OVER IN CLASS
OMG, I took him over the summer and it was really really bad. He is very tough on grading. I got a C after studying my butt off all summer. I had no choice but to take him at the time cause the course wasnt offered at the Naples campus...If u have a choice pick someone else..
he is very knowledgeable in math..he doesnt spread the knowledge though, he goes over notes not really explaining anything. very boring hard to sit there for the whole lecture. test are not multiple choice..if you have the option to take someone else, do it
Very thorough. Gives time for questions on the homework before starting new lessons, & doesn't make you feel stupid when you ask questions. He is a great professor!
He was a very good teacher. I am pretty good at math but he made it a lot more understandable for me.
This class wasn't easy at all! he gives a loooot of homework for up to 5 bonus points on the tests, no curves! If u r good in math take this class!
I felt because I am good in math I did well in this class. Others did complain about him though. Gives excellent study guides before tests. Must do the MathLab. Homework quizzes and attendence quizzes are worth extra credit on each test, so go to every class and get the questions right to earn the credit.
Great Professor!! Professor Randsford, was the best math professor ive ever had! TAKE HIS CLASS!!
good teacher. he makes the information accesable and easy to understand. However HW is not required and only count towards extra cred. This leads for some ppl to forgo the hw and that leads to bad grades on the tests. i guess if you are going to take this class have a little self motivation. i just did hw and didnt study and got an A
I love him!! He is a very good and fair prof!! My only objection is that the final is worth 30% of your grade (could even be 45% if you choose so). He gives you practice tests/final exam which are super helpful, but, I recommend not being fully dependent on it. Do your hw! He doesn't curve grades, so you need to earn your grade in this class.
I love math, so I was a fan of this prof because he doesn't dally around or try to hold your hand, but he might be bad for someone who isn't a fan of the subject. Homework isn't required, but if you do it and make sure that you get the right answers and do the practice tests you should to okay.
Took him for MAC 2311 and 2312. He was great for 2311 but did not seem to remember how to do many Calc 2 problems. I think it was his first time teaching the class.
I enjoyed his class even though I hate math. He explains problems from a-z & is thorough. The homework load is heavy but if you dont procrastinate its ok. Hmwk and quizes can repeated for better grades. Attendance earns you bonus test points! You do NOT use the book..only math lab! I would take him again for sure!! He's nice & extremely polite!
Great teacher...you can print the notes out online so you dont have to write everything down...gives lots of extra credit...got an easy A
Professor Ransford is great. Great test reviews, professional & polite. You have to earn your grade (unlike most courses) but if you study the review that he gives you, every question is EXACTLY like that. I cant say enough about professor Ransford.
He was very organized, and taught the subject well. For someone like myself who is terrible in Math, to get a "B" in this class is still amazing to me! Highly Recommended! :)
The last time I had a math class was more than 10 yrs ago. Calculus is not easy but he makes it easy. You have to do the work though. Do the homeworks coz it's the way to practice. Study his review coz the test will look exactly like the review. Got an A but it wasn't easy.
great teacher helpful I got an A in his class I am terrible at math but I practiced and do my hw his test were easy.I highly recomand professor Ransford if focus while teaching you earn yourself extra credit which can help toward test.
great teacher helpful, clear, polite, and prompt I got an A in his class I am terrible at math but I practiced and do my hw his test were easy.I highly recomand professor Ransford if focus while teaching you earn yourself extra credit which can help toward test.
He give a lot of homework which would be fine if the tests were similar, also his review he gives prior to the test was way easier than the actual test. beware he goes out of his way to try to trip you up on tests.
This class is RIDICULOUS, he wont let you use your calculator for some of your test, he expects you to know the estimated answers. LOTS of Homework just for extra credit. Not mandatory, but YOU WILL need the Extra Credit in this Class. I say RUN or change if you can. Take the Berthiumes.
Alot of hw. hw only for maximum of 5 points extra credit on the test. pop quizzes. project in math class. alot of people dropped out of the class
One of the best professors I've ever had I mean you follow the notes and do the hw you'll get a 100 on every test
He is very nice teacher and helpful into trying to break things down so students can understand, might move a little to fast at times. Overall he is great and very understanding
gives pop quizzes, gives project, split the tests in are two parts so that it is harder to finsh all of it
He is very helpful and explain things clearly. Very lenient in correcting tests as long as you tried. Do the homework. It really helps a lot. Submit them for additional points added to your test grade as Calc2 is a very hard class to take. You need all the points you can get.
Excellent teacher! Homework is not required - but worth an extra 5 points on each test. I recommend doing it all. Don't understand something? Go and talk to him! I highly suggest taking this professor, especially for the higher level math! Well done Ransford!
It's his first time to teach Calc 3. Not as organized as he used to be but he does try his best to explain things clearly. Lenient with correcting tests. I did learn Calc 3 through him. I'm just wondering if I had learned more if I have taken Smith's class instead.
Speaks very fast as if we all already understand the material. Tests and quizes are poorly timed so you better have it all memorized.
Really great teacher. I took him for precalc and trig and did really well in both classes. Learning the math was good because he teaches well. Speaks clearly. Ansewers your questions from every direction he can. Homework is optional but recommended becuz its extra credit pts on exams. Math is all about practice. Popquizes but there not difficult.
Ransford is an excellent teacher. I'm terrible at math. He tends to teach at a fairly quick pace, but is clear, concise, and open to students' questions. He literally asks, "Any questions?" every time he shows a new problem. Very even-tempered too. PAY ATTENTION, you'll pass.
He's overall a difficult professor. He skims over difficult topics, and goes slow on simple topics. I had an understanding of math when I walked into his class, I had taken trig in high school, and I found that he confused me more than he taught. I did better on his tests by skipping all of his classes and only attending the tests.
This was his first time teaching stats at FGCU. Although his lectures are BORING, they are very helpful. His practice Tests were EXACTLY like the chapter tests, just different numbers. a good teacher, very straight-foward and clear.
The average score is too high because it is based on all levels of math. If you are taking calc I or calc II then you should be prepared to learn on your own. He is teaching a class that he barely understands. Start asking questions and you will see. I strongly suggest taking a different professor for higher level math. No online homework either.
Cool professor ever. He is so helpful and his test are so easy same as the practice test just the different number. You will pass his class with A unless you tend to do something in his class and plus 5 points on the test if you do homework.
Ransford is the best! If you pay attention and do the homework you will get a good grade. He comes in and just does his job, and does it well. I've had so many horrible math teachers in the past that were teaching the same material, but with Ransford, he actually TAUGHT it and I understood easily. TAKE HIM!! You won't regret it:)
His a great teacher but goes really fast. There were topics that i didnt understand fully and others is did because of how he skimed over certain topics. The homework is optional but DO IT! the homework is extra credit on the tests.
Very challenging class. His class notes are perfectly clear and straightforward but his methods are rigid and difficult to do on your own. The practice tests are helpful, but the instruction is not enough. Any questions at all... get a tutor, homework will not save you from failing. Practice definitely helps in this course.
Worse professor i have ever taken, isent clear on his teaching, his practice test are nothing like the real test. And to top it all off dosent care about the student weather you pass or fail its all the same to him, and he micro checks everything and if its wrong take 5 points off the score no matter how tiny the mistake is.
I hated this class. Attendance not mandatory, but for a good grade, SHOW UP. He's very clear, but extremely fast. I was not able to keep up in class. His test grading is great (partial credit if you can even set up the question) but so much homework for only an additional five pts on the test. Its a hard topic, and a pretty challenging class.
Took this guy from PreCalc to Calc II. He does the job just gotta love the material to really be proficient at it. He does make it challenging but it was a fun ride. BTW i hated him at first kuz i didnt understand his teaching method but you get used to it. :)
Such a hard teacher, He gives you about 200 problems of hw which is only 5 EC pts on your test which is pathetic because the problems literally take you 30 min just to do one.He goes too fast and doesn't care if you are failing . I don't recommend him, I love math and have always passed it, but this guy just teaches you either get it or you dont
Calc 1 - Looking back at it now, it was not difficult material. But attempting to learn it in this class is painful. Material is covered at a ridiculously accelerated rate. Ransford is not teaching new techniques, he is reviewing as if he expected you to have learned it somewhere else before. TOTAL SELF STUDY COURSE. You are on your own.
It is a little easier to follow the review style teaching method in class this time because you have a base in calc 1. Do all the hw (and there is A LOT) and pre tests unless you already learned this stuff prior to this class. Learning in class is a myth. It never really happens. You learn on your own time through countless hours of study.
To do well on his tests, you need to review the practice tests. Homework completed fully will give 5 bonus points on the test, and if not he usually gives 4 (unless you did almost none of it). He is not very lenient when it comes to the grading scale, though. It's 8% take home test (or project, depending on your class with him), and the rest test
Took Professor Ransford for pre-calculus. He does not make this class easy in any way, but is pretty fair at grading. He is helpful and if you're confused just go to his office hours. He's also a nice and helpful guy.
Just a lecturer. Not interested in questions and helping in class.
This class was very difficult, I put in at least 6 hours a week for this class! You have to memorize all the trig equations for the final (approx. 3 pages) and certain equations for other tests. He gives a lot of homework and quizzes. Teaches exam material the day before the test...If you dont like studying dont take this class--its not an easy A.
He is very nice. He explains everything perfectly. I learnt a lot from his lectures; especially, I understand how Calculus is applied into the real life. However, his tests are hard. You must study hard and do all homework. Otherwise, you will have a very hard time on his tests. Homework is a lot, but it helps a lot too. I got 100% for all tests.
Professor explains concepts well, so that you clearly understand. Be sure to do the homework assigned, even though it's only extra credit. Also, he gives you practice exams that are similar to real exams. Would take him again if I could!
Professor is a fair grader. He explains math concepts really well. I will definitely be taking him again for my other math classes. Take him if you actually want to learn math. You will not be disappointed.
He's just awful. He explains it one confusing way, doesn't break down the whole problem and goes through them way too fast. Not helpful when it comes to questions and his tests are ALOT HARDER THAN THE HOMEWORK. If you have him my advice is go to class EVERYDAY and be prepared for the exams!
Math is my absolute worst subject. And Professor Ransford didn't make it any easier. He goes through the topics at an extremely fast pace, and acts like you should already know the material. I'd highly advise you not to take him if math isn't your best subject. If you unfortunately already have him, study extra hard for the tests.
I have taken Trig, Calc 1 and now Calc 2 with this professor. He does great at teaching but you have to be willing to do the studying on your own. I slacked a lot this semester and thought I would get off with just passing the course with a C, but I was mistaken.
Good teacher, I personally like math so my opinion isn't as objective as some below, but for me he was clear, the homework was easy and he's very forgiving on tests, my only suggestion is to bring a calculator, better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it.
If you want an A grade, then stay away from this professor.
Great professor. Explains things crystal clear. I will definitely be taking him again for other math courses. Take him if you actually want someone to explain math the way it was supposed to be explained.
Very good teacher. If you do not do well in this class it is not because it is his fault, it's because you did not put in the effort. He gives extra tools like practice tests and notes typed up, yes you need to utilize those or you will not get the high grade you want. Take this class for excellent math teaching-he puts in the effort and so do you!
He is one of my favorite professors. He is organized, willing to answer questions in class as well as work with you during office hours. Assigns decent amount of homework- which he allows you to do hard copy or on my labs plus. Doing your hwEXTRA CREDIT on tests. Gives 4 tests of about 20 questions and your final can replace lowest test grade.
He's a good teacher always asks if anyone has questions and is willing to take time to answer them in class. Tells you what you need to do if your grades are slipping or at least why that is. drops the lowest test score. he really wants his students to understand material. he does make you work for it though. turn in hw online or in class
Very good teacher! You must work hard of course. As long as you do that you will pass. Only three test grades, a take home test, and the final. That is why it was so hard for me. So really, to do well you need to the homework so you are confident going into the tests to get those high grades. That is what I would do differently.
Dr. Ransford is there for you if you need him. If you do your homework and study the test guide you will do fine.
Loved him. Professor Ransford is really organized and old school. He gives out reviews for his tests that really narrow down what you will be tested on! If you go to class every day he gives "quizzes" that are just extra credit points that will be added to the exams. His teaching is also clean and clear and very easy to follow.
He is a well organized professor that helps out students. If you go to ask help in his office hours, he will surely help you out. I would highly recommend to complete your homework and do online quizes more than one time. Test are exactly from Study Guide. If you master it, you will do fine. Your final will replace your lowest test score. Good Luck
You will not pass if you do not study for exams. All test are heavily weighted and all the exams are written out problems. No multiple choice, very difficult if you don't understand something speak now or forever hold your piece .
Teaches very, very fast, that you almost can't follow along. Wouldn't recommend if you aren't very good at math.
Dr. Ransford has a very dull teaching style, pretty quiet, and makes it awkward to ask questions. He teaches really fast, and expects you to have prior knowledge of most of the material. Gives extra credit for each upcoming exam at the END of every class. He is not completely terrible, but if math is your downfall, I would not suggest him.
Cons- If your not amazing at mathematics it will be very difficult to keep up with him. Explanations are extremely fast. He expects you to know everything up to the class your in. I basically go home and teach myself. Terrible!!!! Pros- He gives printed notes, there is no mandatory homework, there is a take home exam, and he gives practice exams.
This professor definitely knows his mathematics, however I thought I was great at math until I took him. He is extremely tough, his grading, tests, lectures, everything! No multiple choice! you can get the right answer but if the work is wrong still get points off. I go home and teach myself, from his ridiculous fast paced teaching skills. WORST!
Professor Ransford will sometimes go really fast, but if you have any questions he will answer them. He definitely knows his stuff. Using Math Lab Plus makes homework and quizzes super easy. And study his test reviews and you'll easily pass his tests. He HATES people on their cell phones and gives extra credit. I never rented or bought the textbook
If you want to LEARN Calculus, he's the man to teach you. You will not find a more knowledgeable and efficient professor. He comes prepared to teach. He really knows the material and knows how to explain it. He opens the floor up for questions exactly at the places where students tend to have them. My son will take him for all maths. I wish i had.
I struggled to pay attention to his lectures, but he gives a practice exam before every test that is set up identically to the exam he actually hands out. The homework is also optional, but if you do all of it then he will add up to 5 points to your test grade. Very fair professor.
No mylabsplus.. Book is a must!. he gives practice tests that are very similar to the actual tests, 1 take home test, and homework is optional but he gives 5% extra credit if you do it and its good practice. Overall it was a challenging class but he is fair (TI83 is the only calculator he allows)
I have never seen a professor that is so organized. He is always prepared to teach and he knows his material. Even though he goes a bit fast at times, he always opens the floor for any questions. 5% extra credit if you do all the homework, and make sure you study the practice tests. Awesome professor. Looking forward to taking him again.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! You are NOT allowed to use a calculator on the exams! He speaks very fast, horrible organization. Had one exam in the first 3 weeks and after that we had an exam almost every single class. If math doesn't come naturally to you then this is not the class for you. I work non-stop, go the lab, and i still don't understand
I found MAT1100 very challenging especially during the summer. This class is not what I thought it would be based on what advising said. Look into it. A LOT of hmwrk and WS's that are due, 60 min tests, quizzes were xtra credit towards tests. Professor showed no willingness to work with the class. Very tough and unrealistic with with his structure.
By far the hardest class I've taken. Professor Ransford knows his math and expects you to know it. Ridiculous amounts of homework. Quizzes due everyday you have a test and test are back to back. No Calculators for first half of test. I had an extremely hard time with this class and spent at least 6+ Hours studying the material per day.
Relatively relaxed guy nothing extraordinary but was a good teacher to learn from taught well enough to understand
He's incredibly organized and goes through many different examples of problems in class. He is a nice guy and definitely approachable if you have any questions. The material was not too hard but I'd recommend reviewing the trig related problems he goes over in class. His grading is a little weird at times but he's very fair.
Professor Ransford is a great professor. He thoroughly explains each of the many examples he does in class, and he answers all questions with a thorough response. At the end of each class, he gives an attendance quiz. Respond to the question correctly it counts as extra credit. quizzes are the only extra credit he provides, so take advantage of it.
He was, by far, the worst math professor I have ever taken. He has you work in only group work, which isn't good if you prefer to work on your own. Furthermore, he DOES NOT TEACH. Plus, given the main work is done through the book, you don't even have to attend. Do not take this class if you aren't good at math.
Totally bombed. combination of his fast lectures and the insane amount of homework on mylabsplus. to top it all off the guy decides to teach us four lessons the class before our final exams along with 70+ homework questions rather than studying. Wouldn't take again.
This teacher doesn't lecture. You sit in groups and basically your teaching yourself the work. Homework is on the mathlabs and also homework from a workbook.
If you do all the homework assignments and the practice tests, the exams are easy. Turning in the homework gives you 5% extra credit on the tests. All his notes and lectures are very straightforward and easy to understand. If you have a strong math background, this class is a super easy A.
I usually despise my math classes, but Ransford made it pretty easy for me. His lectures are well paced and he's always willing to stop and answer questions if you're confused. My only complaint would have to be the massive amounts of homework, which isn't too big of a deal unless you don't do it until the night before, like i did.
Amazing instructor.
He is a strictly business type teacher, but once in awhile says aggressive, offensive things which is incredibly distracting and makes it difficult to learn from him. Don't take this class if you ever need to use the restroom or may have emergencies arise.
Awesome instructor. Highly recommend.
Awesome.
Great.
Amazing professor. Highly recommend.
I have had prof. Ransford for pre-Calc/trig through calc 2 and I have to say I think he is an amazing professor. Really intelligent and prepares his lectures so well that I leave feeling optimistic and curious about the material covered. He is a very tough grader (only grades are exams!), but his lectures are worth it! Thanks prof. Ransford!
Prof Ransford is one the better advanced math teachers I've taken. His homework assignments and practice tests truly prepare you for the exams but you must do the work. Homework also counts for a little extra credit on the tests. I just wished he taught Dif Eq and Calc 3.
He's pretty monotone, but you'll definitely learn from him. Exit quiz at the end of every class with an easy problem from that day's lesson; if you get it right it's an extra point to add onto your test grade. If you leave during class then you have to take all of your stuff with you. Other than that, super organized and a great professor :)
Always be present and do your homework in time and spend lots of time studying before exam to get a good grade :)
Worst math teacher I've ever had. is not lenient AT ALL with extra credit. all he says is "refer to the syllabus". a couple kids dropped out half way thru the semester in my class and some of my friends got F's including me. DO NOT take him you will sincerely regret it. Gave us 5 Hw assignments and a quiz all due in 1 week and the hw is lenghy.
I do not recommend this professor. Very harsh grader.
This professor was okay.
Awesome professor, explains all concepts you will be tested on, challenges his students, and you learn a lot. It's math guys unless you're gifted with numbers you need to put in a solid effort in any math class for a good grade. Put in the effort you are guaranteed a solid B in his classes. I took him for Calc II and Calc III.
Put in the effort, then you will have a good grade in this class.
Professor Ransford is not a bad teacher at all, but he is a very straight to the point type of math teacher. He teaches very clearly, but he goes a little fast on his lectures and expects you to pretty much know the knowledge you need to know for the math class you are in from the previous math class you took. Lots of hw but worth it for practice
Not a bad professor. His tests are pretty much like his practice tests but are not multiple choice. For calculus he gives a lot of hw but is definitely highly recommended for the hard content of the class. Overall, not bad. He is always asking if you have questions. Clear lecture teachings and a little fast but he is nice to approach in a way.
I took Professor Ransford this semester, He is not a bad prof but he does his lectures quick. If you don't have a clear understanding of your previous math like I did, its hard to catch up. I didn't go to school for 2 years and couldn't remember most of Trig and in calculus you need it. He gives Hw optional, no book, practice test like Test.
Super difficult beginning math class.
Very difficult grader on hw and exams.
Very difficult for an introductory math course.
This class was really simple as long as you go to class and do the homework! You are able to print a handout of the notes that allows you to easily follow along during class, & he provides study guides that are very similar to the test. As long as you do what you're supposed to and pay attention, you should be okay!
Prof Ransford is a nice guy, but does not explain criteria very well and lectures are very boring. Tests are like study guides and there is lots of homework, in which lots of help is offered on in MyLabsPlus. Tough grader but does give partial credit.
Professor Ransford, though monotone and somewhat strict, is a solid choice when it comes to choosing a professor if you are willing to work for your grade. He does not give easy A's, and can be confusing, but deep down he cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. I would recommend him.
Great Professor! Very organized (class notes with answers for each class, pre-test resemble the test), he builds the study material in a very logical and understandable way. do the homework and pre-test and you will surely succeed. Caring and very pleasant! If I will need another course it will be only with him! one of the best!
As math professors go he is a good one. Pay attention during the lectures, do the homework, it's a lot but do it. Do the practice tests. If you put the work in the tests are easy if you don't you will struggle.
His tests are very straightforward. You can succeed in his class even if you miss a few bc all notes are online, but BEWARE: attendance counts for a portion of your grade and can really bring it down. You also get an extra credit point for the tests for every class that you attend so IT'S WORTH COMING TO CLASS, especially if you struggle w math.
He is a kind guy. He requires you buy online software for homework which comes w/ an e-copy of the book (DON'T buy a physical book, you'll NEVER use it). Print and bring in his slides, it helps! I'm 10yrs out of school & bad at math. I needed multiple tutors. Expect 20+ hrs a week outside of class to study. I put in 40+ & rarely got above a C.
This professor by far is the worst professor Ive ever taken. Theres a lot of homework and he doesnt do any reviews. Heavy grader and lectures a lot. If you try asking questions he likes to belittle people in class instead of trying to educate them. He also doesnt allow people to use the bathroom during class. Be ready to teach yourself!!!
Your whole grade is pretty much dependent on test. If you can't pass test, youll barely pass the class, no curves whatsoever. His routine is a lot of homework, a lenghthy quiz and then a test. All of the homeworks online and he doesnt hold back. If you take this professor... STUDY FOR THE TEST. Good luck i would never take again.
One of my worse class ever. He is such a nice person but his teaching is not that great, at least at FGCU. He is an adjunct so he doesn't have an office on campus. He doesn't teach at all. He comes to class and just solve exercises without giving a proper explanation. When you ask for some, he tells you it will take too long to explain.
Worst professor I have ever had, he goes way too fast on lectures, just copies notes from previous papers, and grades are strict.
Worst class I've ever taken. Tests are all short answer, no office hours, and the notes don't correlate to the test.
Does not give enough help out to the students, and does not explain topics very well. Also, feel like we don't need to do both paper and online homework. We could do one or the other.
Professor Ransford is very knowledgeable on what hes doing. Hes a very sweet guy and will help you when you need it. However he doesnt teach, class lectures are just him completing problems countless of times and he doesnt actually show you how to do the problem. I wouldnt recommend unless your good at teaching yourself math yourself.
He was okay.
I had him for Calc 1-3. He is a great professor who knows what he's doing. It's a math class so there are errors occasionally, but if you ask him a question he will absolutely go back and reexplain or correct when necessary. The homework isn't graded, but if you turn it in on test day you can earn extra credit for that test. Same book for calc 1-3.
He was okay, but I wouldn't recommend him unless you're good at math and can teach yourself. He doesn't TEACH. He only knows how to solve the problems and he doesn't actually show you how to do the problem. Worst class I have ever taken.
I honestly thought he was a good teacher, I just hated how the class was graded. 40% of the grade was from tests and 60% was from the final exam, so there was little room for error if you had a bad test. If you did all of the homework (a lot), you could turn it in for 5 points on the test. If you take him, do the review problems from the syllabus!
calculus is tough but ransford is very knowledgable and will explain things in different ways to help you understand. he expects much from his students and will help those who put forth the effort. if you are needing to go further in math, ransford is a good choice. he also has great notes and practice tests on canvas.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. He cares little to nothing if you pass, teaches by reading his math notes, never gives you a chance to learn the subject. 3.5 rating is false don't take him if you want to pass.
The entire class is based upon 5 test grades. The only extra credit given is up to 5 points if you do around 80 homework questions for every test. He mostly just reads off notes he already has written. If it wasn't for corona virus it would have probably been a little better it isn't entirely his fault.
No, he is not helpful No, he cannot/does not teach If you are already comfortable with math then feel free to take him , but if you struggle at all, he will leave you behind. His lectures consist of narrating his prewritten notes whilst appearing bored himself. Absolute worst class I have ever taken.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! Haven't heard from him ONCE this semester. Did not post any helpful powerpoints or lecture videos until the semester was almost over. Had to teach myself everything, and even then, I do not understand it. Do well on the homework, discussions, and quizzes, but fail the exams, your grade DROPS. It's impossible to bring your grade up.
Professor Ransford was of zero help. DO NOT TAKE HIM! My friends and I have sent him 10 emails that have gotten no response. Literally did not even give us powerpoints/notes, I went to mylabsplus just to get important formulas. The exams are worth 65% of your grade, which he does not prepare you for at all. I love math and I struggled!
Don't take this class. Learning a math online is hard enough, but when you aren't given the material to learn it (i.e. PowerPoints), you have to turn to other resources like MyLabsPlus. Professor Ransford was nowhere to be found during the semester. He hasn't answered any emails, and he posted little course material. I would rate a 0 if I could.
Absolute worst professor Ive ever had. No respect for this man. Class started with 33 then dropped to 11 students. Class average for every single test was failing. Didnt answer any emails for anyone. Donald Ransford made it impossible for his students to succeed. Dont take this class. Its a waste of time and money. Find a respected good teacher.
Ugh I hate this professor ever! worst worst worst . I usually love math so much but with him I had to struggle so much to pass this course because of the percentage of the test that will affect my grade a lot if i fail and homework (100 question hmw) give only 5 points. He doesn't have consideration for others and he was doing this for 5 years!!
His class was a trauma for me, I absolutely love any kind of mathematics, but this professor made me doubt my love of math. I have always felt prepared and confident for taking his exams, but every single exam I got like an F and D, which had never ever happened in my life before. I have never struggled with math so much in my life.
I took this class in summer B and ended up dropping it. He grades test extremely hard even if you get the right answer but not in the correct format he wants he counts it wrong. I wouldnt recommend taking this class with this professor. There was over 200 questions per homework assignment that only count five extra credit points towards test.
Caring and VERY nice, shows step by step solutions, everything on his study guides is exactly what appears on the tests just similar questions. Extra credit problems count towards test and help for those that struggle. Long class hours, but worth it. Everything has a study guide with answers, even Final Exam. Final is multiple choice. 92.11%
He does an okay job in preparing you for his exams (which are about 60% of the grade), as he posts practice exams on Canvas that are almost always identical to the tests (obv besides the same #s). HW is hard and not like the stuff he teaches and he has completly unnecessary online quizzes due alongside the HW which are quite difficult. strong 5/10
Professor Ransford does not care about his students! He speeds straight through lessons, and gets annoyed if you ask questions. Tests make no sense of what hes teached, and grades them so hard. Unless you can teach the subject yourself or youre a math genius, dont take his class.
He's fair, but not overzealous to help. You have to understand what you're getting into and stick to his timeline, if not you will get behind and fail. He's not the most personable and his lecture and rapid-fire, so ask questions and he'll go over some points, but tutoring will be your best bet.
Everythings on MLP and the videos literally don't teach. I like MLP and doing things at my own pace but the videos just got right into doing the equation rather than explaining first. He was wonderful with giving me extra time when I was having issues, but the videos just weren't good and there's no weekly deadlines, its bi weekly so I failed.
Terrible in hardness. He just reiterated his pre done notes that he had on canvas. Few grades and 5 tests + final that are weighted heavy.
He doesn't care about his students and doesn't help you out. Tells you to get a tutor. Don't take him.
He is inconsistent and doesnt respond in a timely manor. He does not take into consideration things outside the classroom such as employment or other responsibilities. Has almost no sympathy considering being absent from class being something he does not take lightly.
I am not good at math by a long shot, but this professor made my experience in Trigonometry so much easier. He is really good at simplifying complex concepts and making them memorable. As long as you follow along with the lectures and do all of the assigned homework, you will do well in this class.
I liked this class. Im not a math person but the way he teaches is very organized and easy to understand. He is a nice guy. There is a homework for every class but as long as you stay on top of things it shouldnt be a problem.
Don't look him up on instagram.
This man is very hard to listen too. It is just him talking for 2 hours but it feels much longer. He does not explain the math very well, he will skip steps. He will answer questions, but not very well. There is a lot of homework and a lot of test. I was better off learning off the homework instead of listening to him.
Don't take him switch classes. Avoid him at all cost.
He explains everything very clearly and is insistent on making sure you're understanding the lectures. I'd suggest printing his class notes for each unit - easier to follow along with him and take notes with. Provides EVERYTHING you'll need and is available during office hours for extra help with the homeworks(utilize him!) I would take him again!
take in person. online is bad.
Man, I will never and when I say never I mean never retake this professor He is the door right next to hell. I am so bored, I've never learned anything, and he is so dull. I recommend that if you want to save money on a class don't take it or else you will fail he doesn't even know how to teach correctly it's like he is just reading a boring story!
What he would teach during lectures barely reflected the assignments or tests. He taught using basic level problems, and the exams would include fractions, decimals, high exponents, etc. His lectures seem easy in class, but when I tried to do it myself, I didn't know the first thing. I eventually understood the material, but failed the exams.
Great professor.
I am taking college algebra now and I can finally appreciate how well he prepared me for this class. He does move quickly, and it is a lot of information in each lecture, but he always makes sure everyone understands what they are doing. He does extensive reviews and is available for questions. Responds to emails and puts grades in a timely manner.
I took him for MGF1106. His classes feel much longer than it's supposed to be. He will write on the board for notes very quickly and then move on and quickly erase the notes he just did. Also, please keep in mind that his tests weigh 60%, and he grades attendance at the end of each lecture.
Prof. Ransford has a specific teaching style, but engaging with it can be rewarding. The lectures are worth attending to understand concepts. Utilize unstuck ai and the free textbook for study prep.
He is a good professor, but he has a specific teaching style that you have to adapt to if you want to succeed. Doing the homework and showing up to class is essential if you want to pass. Take good notes. The only reason his rating isn't higher is because his teaching style is difficult. If you learn from lectures, it's the class for you.
Literally do not take this class. Do not take any class with this professor. Like ever. It's worse than what you are imagining. You have to be a math genius to understand anything he "teaches" he does not teach.
Either you understand him, or you don't. He moves fast and often shows multiple ways to complete the same problems. He pauses to ask if students aren't understanding- take advantage of this and ask questions! He teaches to prepare you for higher level math classes so if you don't need calc or beyond, do yourself a favor and take an easier class
Professor provided prewritten notes in canvas but will still rewrite them for each class lecture so we could all understand the steps. all of the homework was on pearson which included examples that definitely helped me out a ton. definitely attend class every time to receive attendance point as well as possible bonus points for exams.
WHEN I TELL YOUUUU, my favorite professor, hands down. Yes, it's a math course, it's not going to be the most fun class you take but he wants you to learn and walks you through every step to succeed. If you actually pay attention just a little, you'll fly through this course. His tests are extremely fair and he's just a sweetheart.
God FORBID you miss a class or you will be completely lost. He just rushes topics out in about one class (if you're lucky it'll take two) and throws you to the wolves so you figure the rest out yourself. I missed one class because of sickness and I almost failed a test because he glanced over a topic that was REALLY important in the test apparently
he's a professor that would get a 0 on a real rating he doesn't care and his exams are written so be careful don't assume your calc is good that it is give it to him and make sure its ok with him before every exam he made me take the exam again and I had a approved. In simple terms he's a BAD professor avoid at all cost I'm lucky that I passed.
he simply cannot teach math. he will circle background knowledge around each problem without giving a clear step. HE WANTS YOU TO FAIL. he makes exam questions unclear, and unnecessary difficult to "separate the students truly got the concept." Dont. Even if you have NO choice. DONT. Even if you have a PhD in math and always get "A". DONT.TAKE.HIM.
Just don't take him. I am currently in Calculus classes and his class is still the most difficult math class I've ever taken, not because of the concepts, but because of him. Just horrible.
I am never taking this professor again!! He goes through the problems way to fast and when you ask a question or tell him to slow down, he'll just tell you to "pay attention" and continue through the lesson. Miss one class and you're pretty much screwed for the semester. And his grading policy is mostly through tests as its 60% of your grade.
Take his class and you're bound to fail. Most of your grade depends on tests that have zero multiple choice questions. He teaches very fast and doesn't explain the math clearly. Also, very unexciting might I add!
As long as you pay attention and take notes, you'll be ok. He posts notes (Completed and uncompleted) on canvas + practice tests that are exactly like the test irl. He goes over the notes in class, but make sure you don't miss any days because you'll be confused. Also, just attending the class, you get up to an extra 2 pts. on ur test per day.
Speeds through class without time to understand . Give "attendance quiz" at end of class which reflects on overall grade . Doesn't respond to emails and if you miss a module will not reopen no matter any circumstance I mean none . Avoid his class or . If you live with parents and have no responsibilities you might pass otherwise avoid completely.
Is a good teacher but you MUST pay attention (is soft spoken) or sometimes you'll get lost. There are many examples of the material you learn, I recommend to print his worksheets to follow along. Online homework/test due every in person test, very few tests. Attendance quizzes at the end of the class - just a review what was covered in each class.
This professor was absolutely awful. Sent him multiple emails asking for help never responds, his tests are all written and grades by step and correct answer, if you get 100% on quizzes or homework through Pearson he will grade it lower than what you actually got on them. It seems he wants his students to fail more than he wants to see them succeed
Definitely would not recommend, he doesn't grade well, got great grades on homework but didnt helped my grade whatsoever, the tests suck, didn't learn anything in the class, doesn't speak loud and not too good at explaining
I dont understand why he has such bad reviews. You get points just for showing up to class, and if you get the attendance quiz right you get extra credit for the test. Also he makes a practice test which is almost the EXACT SAME as the real test. People who complain just didn't put in the effort.
