The easiest math course I have ever taken. Only assigns short homework assignments, teaches somewhat quickly, but teaches very well. Grade composed of homework, attendance (takes it every day) 6 quizes, and 3 majors.
He's the best math teacher on earth. His work is very easy, he's very lenient and explains very well. If only the class wasn't so boring I wouldn't fall asleep.
explains everything but is really boring... he does things differnt from how i learned it but the class isnt so bad it could be worse..
Not really my favourite professor...not my favourite class. Far from it, in fact. But if I'd never learned the material before, things would be different. Still, his method of teaching, compared to the way I learned it, is totally obscure.
He's the oldest, sexiest man alive!
he invented time and quite possibly the number 0 which might be why he knows so much math
Excellent Teacher...Very Fair..If you have his old tests and quizes you are set
goes too fast, doesn't explain problems /questions you have. tests and quizzes are very hard, grades the h.w....bascially sign up for a different professor if you have him
Really easy class and super helpful. Always letsyou finish test later if you need more time(or studying). He's old and hard to follow at times. Boring as hell too.
I loved him! He's old and he's sweet. He lets you make things up if you need to, I had this kid never come to class then the day of the test hed make up some lame excuse that he was in the hospital and Reed would always let him take the test at a later time. He's fair on hw, and quizzes. He's always there when you need help, and there's even extra credit! Awesome teacher!
He ia SO boring, always runs over the class time...he really needs to retire...soon!
he over explains to the point where he doesn't make sense, he goes REALLY fast and wasn't very helpful. He doesn't simplify anything, it's pretty hard to pay attention, he's really boring
He's an awesome professor. He teaches this course very clearly and to the point. He arranges his homeworks well too...I liked his class..
Easy easy easy! Graded homework every monday, which takes about a half hour to do. Very clear notes, goes with the book. Takes attendance every class, gives review questions before every quiz and test. Easy-going guy, you can make up quizzes and tests with any medical excuse (no proof needed).
the class was a breeze. he gave review problems for both test and quizes and the exact type of question was on the test/quiz. hes available for extrahelp and theres extra credit! only problem is he goes REALLY slow...but if youre not good at math thats a good thing!
he's an awesome teacher. explains everything in detail with lots of examples. he gives practice questions before the test as well. he's a quiet guy and never gets mad. and homework that is graded is due every monday, u don't have to do the other word. he's an awesome teacher. goes slow and is willing to teach and enjoys is. notes and examples
I wish I knew why all the other raters found him so great... I'm average-skilled in math, and I found him to be extremely boring, confusing, and tough. This class is making me nuts. I really wish I took it wish a different teacher. Spending a lot of $$ on a tutor.
Prof Reed is probably the nicest guy you'll ever meet. His class is sooo easyyyy... he is thorough, goes at a slower pace to avoid confusion. he only collects certain homeworks for a grade, and they're never extensive assignments. quizzes are easy, tests are a little harder but still fair. best math class to satisfy requirements
I can't see why people think this man is good....I'm average in math too and for me I feel like screaming in his class because no matter how hard i try I cant understand it, and he doesn'thelp at all. very bad. do not take this teacher
Algebra & Trigonometry pre-Calculus class: Reed is clear; takes time to explain topics; is willing to work with the student after class; sticks to the syllabus/schedule. A weekly homework assignment is collected & graded. Gives in-class review & review problems prior to quizzes and exams.
This is an easy class ass long as you have the pre-requs. and you do your hw. It doesnt take much time and hes willing to go over anything you need.
GREAT
Prof reed is the easiest math teacher ever! an easy A in his class if you do your homeworks and work the sample test and quiz questions he gives b4 any exam! If you want to make the A, go to Reed!
Graded homework every Monday. Quizzes throughout the semester which are not very hard. Tests are a little more difficult
I was required to take this course for gen ed and was initially not so excited about it. As the semester went on, I actually began to enjoy the course, no lie! It's been a long time since I've taken a math course, but he made it difficult to do poorly in this course. He is an excellent teacher!
Goes at a really fast pace if you are not very good with math don't take him. You would want a teacher who goes at a slower pace. Homework is reasonable. Lots of notes, read textbook
Easy professor, but you MUST catch up with the material. I was extremely behind in Math when taking this course and am now taking and loving calculus. You can pretty much take a test over if you have eve a poor excuse. He rathers you understand material rather than making you fail without knowing why. He teaches fast, but he also covers basic calc.
he's a really good teacher! attendance is mandatory, and the homework time consuming, but he genuinely wants us to understand the material. i highly recommend him.
He is sometimes a little bit boring, but he makes the class EXTREMELY easy. If you don't get above a B in this class, you should just drop out of college, because he literally makes it impossible to do poorly. He once taught high school math, so he knows all of the great little tricks to help remember things. He is great.
really knows what he's talking about. goes over everything. need to come to class. grades a homework every week, but as long as you do it you'll be fine. need to do the homework to keep up. don't fall behind. he's helpful & goes over graded homework problems before asking to hand them in. great teacher.
explains everything clearly, n just keep doing graded homework n attend classes will get an easy A. =P
Don't let the pre-test make you feel like you can't do it. I did terribly because I hadn't taken math in 2 years, but it turns out the pre-test is the hardest part of the course. Reed is really clear and easy. Definitely get him! I'm not even good at math and I have a 97!
ill be straight out so you dont have to suffer or regret taking him like i did. he is boring, tough, confusing & he goes over time a lot. it takes soo much time doing hws. attendance is mandatory. i dont kno why or how people are thinking he's easy or great. recommend that you dont take him. soo hard just to get ONLY C. you need to work a LOt for him
Not as easy how you think he is going to be.
Look dont let the "nice" comments fool you. He gives too much work, so time consuming and these extra packets = headache! so dont take him :)unless u want a C.
gives out good notes. only gives homework once a week. lets you re-do any homework assignment, extra credit packets replace quizzes. tests are long but nothing that hasn't been covered. overall good teacher
AWWESOME! A
EASY A, JUST GO TO CLASS AND DO ASSIGNED HW AND YOUR GOOD TO GO.
Love donald.
Terrible. He teaches way too fast, you don't even have time to comprehend one thing before he jumps into another. If you can't make his office hours, you're s.o.l. He's not willing to help much.
He is the worst teacher ever. He makes you take down pages of notes. Marks you off 26 points for one problem even though you got the right answer. Avoid him at all costs!!!
Can teach fast, but easy class. Gives you the problems to study for tests/quizzes and gives homework only once a week. Easy A.
He is very good. he gives lots of assignments, but once you do them you will pass the exam because he just changes the numbers. With little work it is an easy A
Has a tendency to teach fast, and if you cannot make office hours good luck trying to get in contact with him. Lots of assignments and quizzes, Exams aren't overly difficult. Try to avoid him if possible.
Professor Reed is an amazing teacher. I had not taken a math in a year prior to his class so I was extremely worried about taking this class. He is very clear with his notes and very understandable. He gets your grades back to you very quickly, and is generous with grades. One of my favorite teachers, I definitely recommend him! Cutest old man ever
This is one of the easiest class I am taken. He plans out his lesson before hand and he goes over every homework that is given out. He gives out prep questions in the textbook to help us with the quiz and test. he is willing to let you take an exam or quiz early or late if you have a valid excuse. Its cute when he makes minor mistakes!!!!
EASIST CLASSEVER i swear, and im HORRIBLE at math, and he's super adorable
Donald Reed is the greatest thing to happen to math at UB. He loves the subject and has so much passion and enthusiasm in his lessons. Cutest little old man ever. Attendance is mandatory, and you need to buy the book for homework. He will help a student outside of class whenever they ask. Donald is awesome!
This class is not hard but I don't like the professor very much. I had 92 class average, but i did 3 extra credit assignments by hoping to get 93 (one more point) to get an A but didn't work. He gave only .3 (92.3) for extra credits. So, got A-. He is not generous at all. He doesn't look at you behavior or participation. Avoid him if you can.
Easy B/A class. Just do the problems that he assigns right before a quiz or exam and you will do very well. Need the book to do homework problems and studying. Attendance is key. Take him and you'll learn pre calc and if you stay on top of your work and study you'll get a an A/B
Best teacher I have ever had for math. very helpful and makes it impossible for you to do bad. He is always there to help you and gives you practice problems that are almost identical to the actual tests and quizzes right before the test to do. if you don't do the practice its your fault for failing!
A LEGEND. Best math teacher ever.
I gotta say this guy ain't easy but if you do all the hw assignments (even the ones he doesn't grade)the tests shouldn't be too difficult. Just be warned that the tests are extremely long and you may run out of time.
Do all of the problems that he assigns before a test and you'll get a good grade. The problems are basically identical to the ones on the test, but just with different numbers. He's also very nice and lenient. The only bad thing is that you must buy the textbook to do the homework problems. He only grades/checks the graded hw. It's an easy A!
Prof. Reed is an amazing teacher. Take him
He goes slightly fast through the material but in a VERY clear and concise way, making getting an A a matter of putting in some effort. He regularly assigns graded homeworks which cover everything discussed in lecture, and bases tests and quizzes off it. Attendance is graded, and he offers an extra exam to boost student's grades. Wish he taughtcalc
Took this class because there was many good ratings. NO. He goes way to fast and lectures consist of writing down novels. His tests are super long & noone ever finishes them. Plus 30 point questions on exams, one little thing wrong, entire 30pts off. Super nice guy but I would stay away from this class.
I was skeptical going into Reed's class due to the reviews, but Reed is an excellent instructor. He might go fast but he's clear. If you want to get an A in the class, read the textbook (this is a must, it really helps), do all graded homeworks, perform well on quizzes. Syllabus is strict but he is very lenient if you have certain circumstances.
amazing teacher, very easy, very clear, a lot of homework but if you do it you will get an A
Reed gives very redundant hw, if you ask for extra credit he will grant it but it will NOT be easy or short. The final is optional but he makes the class so kids need to take the final in order to receive a desired grade. I worked my butt off all sem. did well on tests/quizzes, spent many hours in math place, did all the extra credit for an A.
You will also have one graded homework assignment a week. Lectures are often dry, especially in the morning. You need good notes to do well.
Lectures are dry and drag on, you need thorough notes for exams. One graded homework a week, but MyMathLab is cumbersome, typically 20-40 questions a week, most with show work. Exams are long, plan your time carefully and know the material well. Offers extra credit, but it is long and not easy. Do well on graded homework and tests for an A.
Older guy but not a bore. Nice guy who WILL HELP. Can be kind of confusing but again, HE WILL HELP YOU IF YOU ASK HIM. 5 test averaged together with maybe 6 quizzes and weekly graded homework online and handed in. Quite a bit of work but coursework isn't overly difficult. Straight forward class/professor. Overall good guy and not bad class.
Very good professor
One of the best teachers I have ever had, lots of homework but helps you learn
If you are not good at math and just want an easy A to get that pesky math credit out of the way for your major DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Hardest math class ever. Not just confusing material but he gives more than 6 hours of homework a week. Test are way too long to finish in a class period. He is nice but his class is way too heavy in terms of hw.
If you want to succeed in ULC 148, take professor Reed and pay attention in the lectures. He does a very thorough and good job teaching students the material. Pretty easy too if you took pre calc in high school.
Gives lots of online HW and graded HW, but clearly outlines what material will be on each test/quiz. Gives lots of extra credit opportunities and go to office hours if you don't understand something. Clearly and thoroughly explains all material in lectures, doze off for even 5 seconds and you just might miss something though. New topic each lecture
Professor Reed was my favorite professor at UB. He is very clear in explaining topics. He gives a lot of graded homework but it seriously helps. All the tests and quizzes are based off of homework. I always did the homework and got nothing less than a 90 on all quizzes and test. He also has some really great sayings like "sticky wicket". 10/10
Very clear and concise when it comes to lecture material, hw, quizzes and exams. Solid professor.
Great professor. People dont understand math is a hard subject in itself. Reed clearly gives step by step procedures during lectures and gives great prep questions for all quizzes/exams. Gives an insane amount of hw but it helps immensely. Also gives optional final exam. Reasonable in giving extensions for everything. Only marks absences.
Worst professor ever gives tons of homework doesn't stop talking for a chance to process what was learned. He will NOT reply to his emails because he has a 1980's cellphone will not reach out to you if you fail the class or are struggling.
For a person who has struggled with math for years being in his lecture was a huge struggle for me. The course seemed to be almost rushed in my opinion which made it hard for me to stay on top of the long and very time consuming amount of work given. If math has never been your strongest don't bother taking this class with him.
Professor Reed was easily the best math teacher I've had in my life. He is a solid, straight-to-the-point kind of guy. He is articulate with his words and makes clear his expectations for assignments and the class. If you complete his assignments and make an effort to study before big tests, the class will be enjoyable!
He is an amazing teacher, just be sure to be there for class since attendance counts. Being there also helps with the material, even though he explains really well and in detail.
Yes, the curriculum can be a little heavy and maybe rushed, but the assigned homework and in-class questions he goes over are really helpful. He makes sure to explain what you need even if not asked. The number of quizzes or homework can scare you but it's all for your own good. You should NOT miss a class if you want to know what's going on.
He is an amazing teacher and I would rate him a 5/5 on his teaching abilities alone. HOWEVER he does give out a ridiculous amount of weekly online AND book HW. I would say for all of it, it ranges between 40-70 problems a wk. He also gives about 5-6 quizzes and 4-5 exams. His exams are ridiculously long and tedious. Ive struggled to finish on time
Hes nice but annoying
He holds a grudge, I missed the first class on accident and for the remainder of the semester he was rude when I asked for help. Did not respond to my emails and so on. he also writes notes on the chalkboard so that you cannot see what he is writing, so you are either furiously writing to catch up or sitting waiting for him to move so you can see.
While Prof. Reed himself was very accommodating when I was dealing with family emergencies, this class was quite difficult for me. If you are decent at math, you will not have a problem in this class; yet if you havent taken math in years (like me) you will struggle. UNGODLY amounts of homework, including online homework. Way too much.
If youre good at math youll be fine, but if you struggle then itll be tough. I didnt think Reed was a terrible guy, but sometimes he sucked. Hes terrible to take notes with bc he stands in front of them or goes to fast, and he will almost never answer your email. And idk sometimes when he talks hes just annoying
He's very vague with anything that requires in depth explanation, he basically always makes you refer to the textbook for any confusion you might have. he also gives a lot of homework in paper and online form. And if you haven't taken pre calc before like myself, the course may or may not be a struggle.
Professor Reed honestly is a very nice person, however, he is not a good professor whatsoever. He acts like the math in his course is so easy and obvious, so for someone who didn't understand the work being done, this did not work to my advantage. He is not helpful whatsoever and you must really work hard to pass this class.
Do not take this class, lots of homework that will take you hours to do online , and hand in in person every other day. Barely respond to emails, lectures are hard to understand, doesn't put grade on blackboard, exams are worth more the final, but does offer extra credit at the very end.
Prof. Reed is respectful and patient while answering questions whether in person or via email. However, his lecture went too fast and I couldn't catch up after distracting for a few seconds. I afterward decided not to listen to the lecture but learned it myself with the textbook. Homework helps to review, but sometimes it can be not very pleasant.
honestly if you want to feel like you're taking a class in high school again this professor is for you; reed is exhausting and old-fashioned, working on the mindset that his students are teens who don't want to be there rather than young adults who are paying to be. coursework is heavy and rigorous but easy, wouldn't take a class with him again.
He's very old style. He doesn't have anything labeled on his class portal. Everything is called “module 1-8” or whatever, so you need to look through each one to find what you're looking for. He also assigns 50 questions with 5-17 parts each.
