Hardest grader you've ever seen. He just got his Masters a few months ago and thinks he knows it all. Nice guy but take exactly Zero feedback from the students. Does examples fast and only once and expects you to remember it all. Self taught class unless you always know it. I took it for an easy A and I'm failing. Avoid like the plague!

Very bad teacher doesn't know how to teach. I agree he's smart guy but he cant explain anything I had to withdraw from the class because I would have an F in the class
Cannot teach so you end up teaching yourself from the textbook. Also goes far to fast the other classes have only done two thirds to half of what we have covered.
The class is really easy if you've taken calc in highschool, if not, pay attention and do your homework. Seriously, if you take the time to study the material it isn't really that hard. Gives a formula sheet during exams and doesn't expect problems to be reduced; if you can keep up, you'll do ok.
DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO TEACH, expect to teach yourself the material if you want to pass the class, I completed and had 100 on every homework assignment, failed 1 test and received an academic alert because I was failing the class and had to withdraw.
Well besides the content normally being fairly easy. His teaching style is horrid, and do not look at the practice tests they will hurt you more than help. Makes tests extremely hard. Avoid like AIDS!!!
do the homework. ask questions. don't screw around during lecture.. ASK QUESTIONS. very organized, will work with you and repeat all of the material and restate information different ways until you get it. Good prof if YOU communicate.
I found the class to be relatively easy. If I had any questions, he was able to answer them. The classes usually didn't run the full 110 minutes. He does place an unnecessary emphasis on formatting though. Even though I understood everything on the tests, I would still get 10-15 points off due to formatting. He allowed a page of notes on tests.
Wanted to take the class over the summer to get it over and done with. 5 weeks in and I'm failing the course. I made a B in Data I and I'm an Honors Student. This man just cannot teach. He believes students should understand the material the first time. I didn't feel comfortable asking for help. I had to withdraw. Tra was supposed to teach not him.
I took Data II with this professor last year and got a B. I'm typically weak in math and have to work really hard at it. It's a tough class but you have to pay attention and ask questions. I had no trouble asking for help and even felt free to seek help during his office hours. No excuse for not asking for help when he's so available and nice.
i'm taking his DA1 class right now. i'm serious he is a bad teacher. everyone fails his tests and quizzes.
Assigns 3 homeworks a week, and actually punishes students for mistakes he makes. Is not nearly as funny as he thinks he is. Why do math professors insist on online homework? Its the dumbest thing. Just hand me a paper with the problems on it. Stop being lazy and actually grade the work you assign. If its the department's fault, RIT math sucks.
I feel he is seriously one of the worst professors i have ever had with 6 months before graduation. Blows through material and does not post relevant stuff online. He is not funny in the least, but will drag jokes for (5-10) minutes during class. Avoid at all costs, he just got his masters.
Terrible, I only took his class because it fit my schedule and it was one of the worst mistakes of my life. I was constantly going for extra help and he would just make me more confused. He nit-picked absolutely everything with his grading. I would avoid him at all costs if you want to pass Data I.
TERRIBLE pacing. No slides. Inarticulate test questions. Terrible review for quizzes/tests. Hard grading. Requires online homework. Requires lab-computer only work. Both are irritating and would better on paper. Answers questions- but expect to ask about *EVERY* *SINGLE* *EXAMPLE*. Complete waste of time- take it with someone else.
By far the worst prof. I have ever had. I am in his class right now. Be thankful of online HW. As his grading is TOUGHER than the online assignments. I dont think he curves grades but he should, no one seems to do well. I don't know whats worse is teaching or his jokes, but both are horrible. DO NOT! Take his classes, under any circumstances.
HORRIBLE, Worst teacher I have ever had here. Grades horribly, takes off for random things without explanation. Everyone fails test/quiz. NOT FUNNY AT ALL (thinks he is). Makes assignments due at 4:00 exactly and takes off of 4:01. DO NOT TAKE EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES unless you want to teach yourself the whole class.
I don't understand all of the hatred for this guy. I had him for data 1 and he presented the material VERY clearly, graded fairly, and made the class about as interesting as it could be. Easy A if you show up and do your homework.
THIS GUY IS AWFUL! I could not understand anything in class, his teaching skills are horrible. I would always email him to get one on one help and he would NEVER respond. Whenever I went into his office there were always 5 other people in there trying to get help as well. VERY DIFFICULT.
Very nice guy, his jokes are so bad they are funny, but sometimes they actually help you learn. He is very helpful and available and will even stay after class to talk. He presented the material clearly and organized. He allows you to bring a note sheet for tests. I am good at math so this was an easy class for me.
Avoid at all costs! My class's homework average is consistently a 51%. He is only interest in showing you how much he knows, your learning is completely irrelevant to him. There is a definite reason he was suspended three years ago, and they should have never hired him back.
Seems to be a good person but TERRIBLE teacher! Do not take him unless you absolutely have to! He leaves things out in his lectures and then makes them worth heavy points in quizzes/tests. Grades very harshly for no real reason. Homework objectives are unclear and harshly graded.
Professor Reynolds did not know how to teach if it wasn't for his teaching assistant none of us would have made it through his class. The assistant basically had to reteach everything after class. It was all wrong.
He's a good person, but his teaching skills are awful. He teaches extremely fast, almost never takes a breath, and leaves the class feeling confused. You never do class work, if you want explanations you need to go to the group "office hours" right after class which conflict with nearly everyone's schedule. Avoid this guy.
Really teaches the fundamentals, which helps with all subsequent data classes. He may be stricter than the other professors but his style is easy to understand.
At first he seems like a decent guy. But he hates to be wrong, he hates to explain things so you can understand them, and he hates to be helpful. I am always really fair to rating professors, but this guy is seriously one of the worst RIT has to offer.
Probably the worst teacher I have had. The day before the final he took the notes offline and no one was able to study. Avoid him.
He looks for reasons to fail students. Not helpful or understanding at all. 30 seconds late with turning assignments into class he will not accept your work. Even if the clock in class in wrong. If there Is a Fire drill during an exam- he will expect you to finish the exam and not curve it.
He was a TERRIBLE teacher. He will take off points for any reason, even if you obviously show you know the topic. His class structure is a pain in the ass: daily assignments in class, daily assignments online, and weekly assignments. Awful. Please avoid this teacher.
He seems to be a nice guy, and teaches well enough for me to understand. But I swear that he prolong his lectures on purpose so everyone will have to stay in class longer. And he is one of the worst, no, he is THE WORST grader. It has to be his way/wording or it is wrong, even if it means the same thing. RIDICULOUS.
Avoid at all costs. He has no leniency or mercy when he grades and it seems that his personal mission is to make sure you get the least amount of points possible on questions where you didn't give him the exact perfect answer he was looking for.
Absolute worst professor I've had. His exams were not on the in-class material, he rarely gave example problems, and wouldn't explain why/how a problem on an exam was incorrect. Also unhelpful outside of class. Brought my 3.8 GPA down significantly.
He is unable to teach. Do not take his class!
Avoid this teacher like the PLAGUE. Absolutely the worst teacher in existence. How he has a job is absolutely beyond me. I think he takes joy in stumping his students. His tests don't cover material from class. His classes barely give you a basic understanding of the material. Overall the worst experience ever. Don't make the same mistake.
Horrible Teacher. Students actually lash out back at him DURING class. His methods for teaching aren't sound. For example, he'll assign homework and then have a quiz later the same week, and the homework doesn't help with what's to be expected on the quiz. Office hours are Ok at best, but with an intro course more instruction should not be needed.
I recieved a C, 79.5, wouldn't round it. Test and quiz questions were poorly worded and made it so that no one had any idea what he was asking. Avoid taking at all costs, I don't know how he is still employed at RIT. Made class attendance worth 10% of grade. Posted class notes online. Refused to post quiz/test solutions to mycourses.
I went from having a high B to a D in less than two classes. He spends a lot of time on bad jokes. His equations produce incorrect responses on myStatsLab. He as manually changed the times that assignments are due, WHILE you're in class, from the next day to before the class started. Takes points off for irrelevant reasons. doesn't provide feedback
posts all notes online, is available outside of class for extra class, tests are challenging but he offers a huge extra credit quiz at the end of the semester. daily homework assignments as well as weekly quizzes that are all online. textbook is not needed, only online access code . even with the notes online, still show up to class everyday!
Was by far the worst professor I've ever had at RIT !!!
He will try to capture interest of the class with silly jokes and the like, but try to stay awake and take good notes on what he teaches. Ask for example problems, as he won't do them unless you ask and the homework is difficult without this kind of help. Study hard for tests and make good notecards (very helpful! Do not underestimate)
My experiences with Professor Reynolds is neutral. The way he explains things is so technical and confusing, that he makes the most the simplistic formula hard to understand. He is very willing to try to help you, as he offers the most office hours out all my professors. The textbook is not really necessary but the access code for MyStatLab is.
He was an awful teacher!
He attempted to engage students but due to the course material it was not effective. He takes attendance which was the only reason I went. I took AP Stats in high school and this class is easier than that. I knew most of the material beforehand but even if you don't he makes this an easy class. Exams are short and pretty easy.
I had him for STAT 205 and he was a decent professor but the material in the course isn't very interesting. If you ask questions he'll answer them and make sure everyone understands. The class is incredibly easy with no homework you have to do and easy tests and grading policies. Attendance is taken and is part of your grade.
Reynolds is definitely a character -- in a good way! He has a really hilarious attitude and tries to make lectures interesting. His testsquizzes are generally easy and predicable, as long as you pay attention. Don't be fooled by the easy first-half of the class, it definitely gets challenging towards the end! Don't listen to the others, take him!
Overall a decent professor. Spends too much time on easy material in the beginning and then randomly the last couple of exams are really hard. Really funny so class isn't boring. Weekly quizzes help for the tests. Has a good review session before the final.
One of the best math teachers I've ever had. He explains the material very clearly and will frequently stop and ask for questions from students. Online homework was tough at times, but you will have multiple attempts to get it right. He also allows index card cheat sheet for tests. If you show up to class and pay attention, you'll do fine.
Absolute joke of a professor. He tells jokes that he thinks are funny but aren't - not even close. If he does something that is nice or human, expect to praise him like a god. He puts huge stock into being in class, doing daily and weekly assignments yet it's such a marginal portion of the grade. Tests will make or break you. Find another prof.
Hands down worst professor I've ever had. If you like bad jokes and the though of dropping out of school because of how awful this class is then he's the professor for you.
Good prof. Lectures weren't the best and he tries too hard to crack jokes and go on tangents. Minoring in stats though because of him. He was around when needed and really knows what he's talking about. Tests aren't bad and the problems are interesting. You need to do the work though.
If you flip two coins what is the probability of getting two heads? Did you answer .25 and move on? Then you are wrong because you didn't write a complete sentence to go with it. Horrible professor. Spends way too much time trying to be funny and arbitrarily marks entire questions wrong if you forget to explain the simplest answers.
Overall terrible professor. Avoid him like the plague. Doesn't know how to lecture. Nice guy, bad professor.
Although all of his notes are online, he still has mandatory attendance. He tries way too hard to be funny when he isn't. During his lectures, he doesn't make much sense and then the next class is a worksheet. ALL answers on homework and tests must be complete sentences, even if you show full work and got the right answer.
Terrible Professor!!! Somehow makes a simple subject like statistics halfway impossible to learn and understand. Whats the probability of living if you jump off a bridge? (make sure your answer is in complete sentences). Consistently is not at office hours so getting help is difficult.
Pretty bad. Didn't structure the course very well. Grades rather inconsistently. I got all of the questions right on my first exam and got a 70% because I didn't use complete sentences.
The class is way too hard, wouldn't recommend him. He is a very nice guy on a personal level however. The questions on exams are much harder than anything you will ever see on a quiz or a review packet. On top of that, he is a savage grader. Expect to go to office hours and work harder than ever if you want to pass for such a simple gen. ed.
A lot of reviews criticize his humor, but the far more glaring problem with this professor is his rigidity of grading and larger-than-life expectations on exams. Be prepared to write in full sentences on EVERY assignment, and study a lot. Made a simple class extremely over-complicated. Don't let the open note exams fool you, they're HARD!
Provides straight forward assignments. He gives you online notes, review bonus quizzes, and exams directly based on the quizzes. 1 take home quiz about every other week. Everything is open notes. Offers plenty of time to students outside of class. He cares that his students learn, so bring your assignments to office hours if your ever stuck!
This professor is unrealistically brutal on his exams. Do all the practice you want, chances are you'll only be able to prepare for about half the points. Writing in full sentences isn't an issue but when 3/4 of the class is staying 10 minutes past the exam due time there's obviously something wrong with the exam. Nice guy but horrible professor.
Very solid professor. He's not going to hand out easy grades, but there is plenty of opportunity to do well if you apply yourself. Solid notes, solid lecture, accessible for questions outside of class with helpful answers to questions, and consistently makes grading clear.
Four exams, excluding the final (one of the non-final exams gets dropped). Some parts of the class were not made abundantly clear, such as the fact that he drops the lowest quiz. Pretty brutal when grading. Inconsistent course structure - sometimes there were lectures, other times not. Notes are accessible through OneNote. Lots of stupid dad jokes.
Okay, since he is the only teacher for this class, it's kind of hard to say much about how he compares to others. The class is extremely difficult. If he sees you trying, he more than willing to help you out. Office hours are a little weird, but overall, they show you care. Not the nicest guy, but I learned stats.
He throws a lot of lame jokes, make sure to laugh, he notices and holds a grudge if you don't. Make sure to worship him like a good to fill his ego, he needs to feel powerful and mighty (some students laugh about how he is overcompensating). Tests are long and don't really match any of the material he teaches but are manageable.
All his class reports are supposed to be based off what he taught for that specific day but about 50% of the material on his class reports are never based off what he taught.
The morning of a quiz, he emailed us saying that we needed to print out some tables in order to take it. People have things to do in the morning other than worrying about printing out a 23 page table. He didn't care to give any more advanced warning than that. Otherwise he is mediocre and uses very inefficient wording during lecture.
One thing I learned from his class is to use complete sentences. Like others have said, he will take off points if you don't do so. His tests are much harder than the problems discussed in class/packets. Make sure to come in with a cheat sheet the day of the test. His grading is very inconsistent. Be prepared for weekly quizzes. Drops lowest test.
Tries to make class fun, not the best sense of humor but is really nice. Fairly easy class, work in small groups for workshop each day, and allows a cheat sheet for exams. Doesnt require textbook and only tests on stuff from class.
He's the only prof teaching 205, which sucks for him. He tries his hardest to make the class easy to understand for the engineers required to take it. If you put in the time to go to office hours and ask him to clarify or explain concepts (or messy notes) to you, he will be happy to help. Other people here are just frustrated with stats concepts :)
Actually a very nice guy. Make concepts digestable enough. Cares to answer questions a lot. Many extra credits are available. Examples are all provided online, so no homework needed. Everything you need for test is there. However, some concepts are lightly touched but can appear on exams. Can be quite nit-picking with complete sentence answers.
I would say he is a good and humorous teacher. I take his morning class but I never feel sleepy. His class is interesting
Prof. Reynolds gives you all of the tools you need to do well in his class. Lecture notes are stored in a shared OneNote document. Practice exams are given two classes before the real exam. Demonstrating effort on the practice exams nets up to +5% on any exam. He's always available for more review material and questions. Don't believe bad ratings.
He may be by far the worst professor at RIT. I am surprised that positive comments exist (but came to the conclusion that he may have wrote them himself). He is very passive aggressive. Make sure you laugh at his dad-jokes in class, he takes note of that and might even comment on it. If he notices you don't, he's the type that holds a grudge.
He's very ambiguous on his grading criteria and he doesn't give good feedback either. I would email him and ask him specific questions, he will just respond to me very minimally and if I ask him to further explain, he will just ignore my emails. I put into a lot of effort in the assignments but he's not giving me a grade that I deserve.
Professor Reynolds is good at lecturing and providing resources outside of the class. All lecture material is provided online, and 8 hours of open office hours per week were provided. Lectures arent exciting but are clear and easy to understand. Feedback is rather inconsistent on exams but can be given by asking for clarification on lost points.
Professor Reynolds has really clear and understandable lectures. It seems easy to not show up to his class, but don't. I did it once and was very behind for the next few days. He gives a lot of partial credit on the tricky exam questions, so try not to just give up on them. Make sure to write a solid cheat sheet for the exams.
Reynolds is not a bad professor, but not a good one either. He is very strict on grading because he wants specific words. Also he doesn't tell you the correct answer, but makes you work to find it out. His exam is not very difficult if you understand the materials and you are allowed to have cheat sheet. You work in teams unless you don't want to.
Reynolds does not round grades up and states you should know the material when you learned it last class. There is a quiz every class that counts at 5 points of that days total grade. You get a grade every class so if you are out sick like I was you won't do good in the class.
He sucks, very unreasonable and won't listen. Also very unfunny
Lays out the material in a very neat and concise fashion, and walks you through examples using the software. Very helpful outside of class if you have questions regarding quizzes or homework assignments. He even helped me with a project outside of class that was related to the content.
Quizzes every day, 3+ page group busy work that you lose points on if you don't finish before class ends. Lectures run into classwork time with boomer humor. He will always find a reason to take points off, and I only got 1.11/1.11 points on classwork once. Only professor I know who removed the lectures from mycourses during online tests.
Too many quizzes and tests, it felt like there wasn't much time to actually learn and comprehend the topics. But it is not particularly hard to get a good grade.
The class material was easy enough that his mediocre job at explaining things wasn't so bad. He is pretty amusing, has great intentions, and knows his stuff, but I did have to consult outside materials a lot to actually grasp what he was trying to say. He is ALWAYS available to help though. But beware of the group projects everyday !
He gives weekly 10 minute quizzes. He cares more about writing the answer in a sentence than the actual answer. I got all 4 questions correct but didn't have time to write it in sentences and got a 60%, while the person next to me got 3 wrong and got a 70%. He's a harsh grader and his jokes aren't funny, but he's the only STAT-205 prof so good luck
Important: he stated on the first class that this is a-sync Doesn't make a mycourses post or send an email about a quiz and then sets the time limit to 30 minutes, normally all of the quizzes are 20 minutes but alright I guess. Following day, im really surprised to see that a lot students didn't do the quiz and those that did went over on time...
When I had to meet with him for my poor grades and I asked him if he could write the exams to be comprehensible he said " tough luck" When half the class failed a quiz because he didn't announcement it, he openly mocked all those students in the next class He only asks for questions, never teaches, in the zoom a-syn classes; or teaches in general
harsh and petty grader, he'll mark you down for stupid little things in exams, no compassion for students in the middle of a freaking pandemic, had to teach myself everything
The notes are crap with bad formatting (seriously, learn to use latex for mathematical expressions). Course resources are unstructured and you need to look for videos for a topic or example codes in ten different places.
He is very helpful during the lectures. he constantly asks if anyone has questions and makes sure to answer them as thouroughly as he can. Super easy class and the homework is optional which he tallies at the end of the semester as bonus points to your final grade. A good teacher overall.
Avoid if you can. This professor has historically had many problems and complaints raised against him but apparently, he and the department head are close friends. The man is incapable of teaching, his grading doesn't follow any specific rubric and takes off different points for the same wrong/incomplete answer. Bad jokes too.
Class was more bearable after you get used to his grading expectations but everyone flopped the first quiz. Definitely do the homeworks and review quizzes for the extra points because it will save you once you forget to write a sentence and lose 50%. 10 minutes for a quiz and 10 min for submission makes you pressed for time and stressed.
Really enjoyed his class. His passion for the subject matter really shone through and enhanced my interest. Sometimes was a tough grader, but he was always willing to help with any questions you had. He gave a full week to do the exams and quizzes.
Prof. Reynolds is very friendly and engaging during lecture and encourages students to ask questions (make sure you do!). He was also accessible for help outside of office hours if you sent him an email. That being said, outside of a live setting he's mediocre. His recorded lectures were dry and the online notes were not very coherent.
Honestly, a pretty good professor for this course. He focuses on the math behind the concepts, but also on MiniTab outputs. However, if you want my advice, go to his office hours, and ask about how to format your answers. If you do this, this class will be a piece of cake for you. His tests are take home and open notes, which is nice.
thinks he's funny isn't tests are online open notes though
Welcome to the class only taught worst professor at RIT. Exams are 5x harder than what you learn in class or homework. Openly mocks his student for not being able to answer questions. Does not respect basic human decency (I was hospitalized and refused to let me retake a test). an improvement would be if RIT hires a homeless man to teach this class
I didn't have a bad experience with Professor Reynolds. I took the class asynchronously and watched the recording for his lectures. The lectures and his notes were clear and understandable. The material can be difficult at first though, and it doesn't help that he is a very harsh grader. Tests and quizzes are fair, and homework is extra credit.
I think the comments here covered it pretty well. The professor feels a need to establish his authority which is likely because no one respects him due to his constant nervous jokes. Material quizzed on is way harder than what you learn in class and you are expected to "entail" on your own how to solve them based on the basics learned in class.
Dr. Reynolds has a SEVERE issue of not allowing students to review their work prior to exams/quizzes. He refuses to provide answer keys for anything, including ungraded review assignments until after the related quiz or exams. Friday class was made hybrid as he is working his second job where he has taken calls which interrupted class.
Lectures are okay, but super boring and not very clear. Homework counts as a bonus so there's no weight to anything other than quizzes and tests. The lowest quiz and test are dropped, lot of quizzes and exams with little time to do them, all online and he is not accommodating if you have any issues. If turned in even 3 min. late 50% is taken off
Reynolds was a fine teacher. His approach was a bit more hands-off. Sometimes he'd answer a question with a question, when I just wanted a straight answer. I can see why that might be frustrating for someone who's just trying to pass their stats credit. But as a stats student, he helped me develop some invaluable critical thinking skills.
Reynolds seems like a nice professor in class, but wait until you take your first quiz/exam. He will nitpick your exam to find anything he can take any point off for, incorrect formula, the variables in the formula not matching the rest of the problem etc. Also 80% of your grade is exams, and the other 20% is quizzes. Not worth it and never again.
Easy class and material but Reynolds' grading system means that you can get every question on an exam correct and still lose well over 20%.
Reynolds is an absolutely terrible professor with a god-awful and subjective grading system. The content in and of itself is fairly easy, but he hardly gives any examples on how to apply the content in his lectures. In his quizzes and exams, you could get all of the answers right and still get a 70% based solely off formatting in the work you show.
This man is hard to reach outside of class, doesn't respond respectively with emails (didn't include a "Hi [your name here], thanks for reaching out" or a "best, donald reynolds") and is not a helpful grader. ASS teacher, don't take his classes. go to a community college
While he is decent at explaining concepts in the course, Reynolds does an awful job at measuring students' understanding of the content. Assessments have straightforward questions, but he will nitpick your work if it isn't exactly what he wants (which isn't always clear in the first place!!!). Seems to not care about the success of his students.
Doing the homeworks in this class is purely for yourself. He will actively make you feel bad about your work in hws, quizzes and tests. Is always looking for an excuse to take off points. need to write a full paragraph sentence for every question or you get no points. Does not care about you. Actively looks annoyed to see you in office hours.
Donald Reynolds was one of the worst professors I've had. His grading is very inconsistent and harsh, and don't bother emailing him for help, as he won't respond to you or will send you a five-word email with no greeting and closing. He also thinks he's funny, but he's not. Don't take him if you can avoid it.
Everyone has pretty much summed it up. You can get every question correct on his exam but still end up with a C because he doesn't like the way you formatted a specific thing. He thinks he's funny but he's not. How this guy is still teaching at RIT is a complete mystery.
Could do everything correctly, but still get points taken off bc he feels like it. Looks for every excuse to take off points. Corrupted by academia, he doesnt not care about your learning and only cares if you solve the problem exactly his way. Not worth taking this dude. so much work just to get points taken off for no reason. he sucks
Don't think because lectures and homeworks are optional means this class is easy. The material truthfully isn't too bad, but due to Reynolds confusing grading, and him only giving a few words why for each, make it difficult to get a good grade. Unless things do change, prepare to take Reynolds if you have STAT 205, chances are, you'll have him.
The others arent lying. Through quizes and exams I have never once answered a problem incorrectly. My final grade? 80% The quizes do not give nearly enough time for what is expected. He will take points off for anything that he can think of. The grading system for each problem doesnt make any sense. Do whatever you can to not take this class at RIT
Literally the worst class I think I've ever taken. He takes points off for every little thing on quizzes and it seems like he randomly decides how many points to take off. Barely has any examples in class, some stuff on quizzes are not covered anywhere, either a quiz or exam every week. Also, painfully unfunny.
Would not recommend. Does not know how to grade. In class examples are high school level statistics but the quiz and exam problems are convoluted word problems where it takes half the time to understand what he is asking. Claims only 1 problem quizzes but they are 3-4 problems with one word statement. Same thing on exams.
On his exams he grades based on answers being in complete sentences than whether or not they are actually correct. I also witnessed him give a student a 0 on a quiz, despite an emergency popping up, under the lowest quiz is dropped argument. I wouldn't recommend him, but if you end up in a course with him, keep this in mind.
I would say that STAT-205 is not a terrible class. Initially the grading method felt very random but as the semester had progressed the expectations for quiz and exam problems are more clearly defined. Exams are fair based on what is taught during lectures.
The content was not difficult but like the other reviews said, grades are only based on tests and quizzes and he takes off points for formatting or not writing a paragraph explaining your answer.
Made grading criteria hard to understand, even after going to office hours I couldn't explain why I would have so many points taken off. If you get every question right and follow the correct procedures, expect to have 5-10 points taken off. Professor was really nice and gave very good lectures, just a VERY strict grader, even by Math standards.
This professor has been by far one of the worst professors I've ever taken. The examples he gives are relatively easy to understand and easy to solve, while exam and quiz questions are more like a riddle. Additionally, I was doing fine in this class with good exam grades and then had my final bombed and no feedback was given. Avoid him.
Did not grade problems for the final exam.
If you're taking a class with him, write your answers EXACTLY how he writes it, or you'll get points taken off. Takes off points with little to no feedback, only clarifying if asked personally. Lectures are practically pointless to attend, but the class is open notes and he provides well organized notes in mycourses.
The content of the course itself is fairly simple, but like the other reviews say, he takes of seemingly arbitrary amounts of points for formatting or not writing entire full sentence answers.
This professor was super duper strict with his grading. Even a missed word or misspelled word in your explanations and he would take points off. You could get the correct methodology and answer for all questions and still get a 70% total in exams if your explanations were not up to par with his standards. Lecture heavy so make sure you go to class!
While he's definitely a tough grader, he is consistent, and relatively upfront and clear about the grading criteria. Tests and quizzes are online, and of a reasonable difficulty. He streams every class on zoom if you're sick or just don't feel like going in that day. Zoom recordings are also available. Lectures can be a bit dry. Very knowledgeable.
Take Carly Metclafe instead.
Not bad at teaching stats, actually a good teacher. ABSOLUTELY AWFUL GRADER, even if you know 100% of the content and get everything right, be prepared to get a 5/10 on your quiz because he didn't like one word you used in your written paragraph final answer.
good luck.
The content is straightforward, but the professor grades harshly on formatting and expects lengthy explanations - even for simple problems. Attending class is crucial, as the lectures provide valuable insights. For study prep, try using Unstuckstudy alongside the free course materials.
AWFUL GRADER. Yes, he is very clear about what he wants, but there is absolutely no need to be that strict on grading. His teaching is not that bad. Goes off schedule all the time, so while he might provide a class calendar, give it a week before you are behind the schedule and he doesn't know when the next exam or quiz will be. Weekly quizzes.
He is the world's words grader. If you think you did a question right, no you didn't. He grades based on your format not even your understanding of the topics. He didn't even teach my class the last topic for our final. It was just put in my courses for us to look over after he did it for 15 minutes in class.
Reynolds would be a fine teacher if he wasn't the harshest grader I've ever had at RIT. You could get the problem completely right and he will still find a way to take points off. My grade should've been so much higher than it was. He also barely answers his email, and he is not willing to make accommodations for students that need them.
For such an easy class, Reynolds turned this it into my biggest headache this semester. Reynolds did a good job explaining the content, and I feel that I have a strong understanding of applied statistics. However, his grading 'standards' are unjust, inconsistent, and are based on his version of perfection. Good luck on the final, its final death.
The course was extremely heavy on tests and quizzes. And he assigns no mandatory homework assignments. He gets into tangents sometimes which will make you lose attention. Until he's in the middle of talking about important concepts, you know you screwed up He's also a pedantic grader. A trivial mistake could cost you points
I felt compelled to warn anyone who might consider taking STAT614 with him. First, he gave only on average 64 mins of lectures a week (less than 180 for 3 credits) didn't give clear instructions or grading feedback, and contradicted himself. I originally got a B- which he curved to a B, and had to protest to get a B+ due to how poorly he taught it.
Avoid taking this class with Donald! The grading becomes extremely arbitrary and nitpicky very quickly, and his exams are never a reasonable amount of work for the time given. He is not accomodating for technical/life difficulties, and I had one friend fail this class and another friend drop out of RIT partially due to this class.
No homework, only quizzes and tests. Hes an incredibly harsh grader. He takes off points for everything. If you ask him for help or if there's an error in grading he will not help you and he will not fix any errors he made. Don't take this class, take it with another professor or off campus if you have to.
Avoid Prof Reynolds at all costs. When it comes time to takes quizzes or tests it doesn't matter how many example problems you did because the test questions are nothing like them. Tests and quizzes are usually much longer than the time limit given. Takes points off for anything and everything. Do not take any classes with this professor.
Terrible profesor. Avoid at all cost. This guy does not care about his lectures or his students. No clear grading rubric. Everything depends on his mood. Messy handwriting, nearly impossible to read. DO NOT TAKE.
