Very good professor, explains concepts well, and has a very interesting and not boring approach to a already boring subject. Very nice guy as well, class is somewhat difficult, but if you study you shouldn't have a problem.

Awesome!!!

Here is a guy you don't take if you want to sliiiide through a class. But if you want to learn and a teacher that will bend over backwards to help you, he'll do just that! Awesome teacher...
difficult class, he is a great teacher though. explains stuff very well and makes the class interesting
hard tests, nearly impossible to get a B. talks a lot. Many have to drop his classes.
Very hard tests, practice tests are completly different from in class tests, weird tangents, Lots of students drop.

tough tests

Take the class with Salyards if truly want to learn. If you want easy tests and do not want put in any effort.... stay away!!!!
Awesome teacher! You MUST read and study for this class. Not a class for slackers, but he is very good at helping and explaining economic concepts. Plus he is HOT! If you want to get something out of a class, this is the one!

Very hard class, not for the weak minded fools. Easy extra credit for reading an excellent book called Atlus Shrugged. If you read it and pass the simple test, it'll boost you a full letter grade. Great prof!!
I recommend takin the practice exams on the 'net OVER and OVER until you know all of the concepts. He definitely tries to OVERSIMPLIFY concepts of economics too much. I grew sick of him makin stupid "simple" examples to try to explain complex
He is really nice and explains things in a way that makes it easier to understand.
GREAT teacher, but horrible class! VERY DIFFUCULT! HIGHLY recomended for republicans. Plan on studying EVERY night and mastering the practice tests. You will have to work very hard for a decent grade. Slackers and demmocrats -STAY AWAY!!!
made economics relatively easy...funny guy...great prof...great examples...good with one on one questions...do the online tests and book tests...
Salyards is the man. He knows his stuff, and he won't take any crap from those Minne folk
This professor is too political. Personally, I think he's out to lunch with politics. Yes, I am from the other side of the spectrum of Donald. But I find myself having to respect him; he practices what he teaches. I also feel he's an excellent teache
I didn't read any of the book. Just go to class everyday and listen(he's very interesting). Also for the tests use the quizzes online and the book website.
Take this class if you want to learn. Not an easy A. Very good prof, very intresting and a good guy!
Dr. Salyards is a very cynical, sarcastic guy. He acts as though every student is going to cheat in his class or otherwise slack off. Some of us students are not slackers and his sarcasm directed toward the students is unnecessary and unprofessional.
he is very sarcastic and tells the whole class that they are dumb if they don't do good. very unprofessional. very hard tests. practice tests don't help much. oversimplifies simple concepts and skips over the harder concepts. not recommended.
I thought this was an awful professor. He was sarcastic and acted as though all of his students were stupid and all cheaters. I did what he "says" will get you to pass the class and I failed the first test. Awful professor.
Boring classes, teaches powerpoints out of the book, hard to follow most times, very hard tests.
All of the averages of the tests were in the 60's for my class...what does that tell you
He's a very good prof who knows what he's talking about, but... his tests are hard. You have to study for the class! Like he says, "half the people fail or drop this course each semester". That is so true!!
HARD CLASS!
Nice guy, for the most part. Most of my class failed or dropped out, i had a 78% and i had the 5th best grade in the class (there were 38 people originally)If you havent taken Econ in HS, dont take it with him.
Interesting lectures, gets you involved, only 3 tests total no HW, no cumlative final, tough tests though, must read book... Nice Guy
This is a 200 level class, people!! You cannot be very bright if you flunk the class!! He is a very good teacher.
This guy is so hilarious that I'm taking him again next semester. I got a C in his class, but this included a 100% on his final. Just do the online tests and you'll ace every single test he gives. His sarcasm and **** jokes are histerical.
I want the slap the people that said he's a bad teacher because he assumes everyone is a slacker and doesn't study. Because you know what? MOST OF YOU ARE SLACKERS AND DON'T STUDY! Read, go to class, and ask for help! YOU WILL PASS! EASY!
You'll do fine if you just read the book over and over!
his final is the same as the practice exam.....not to bad of a class if you do the reading...
hard class
Tough tests, just be sure to study, read the book, review terms... go to class. Besides he's really funny, I'll never forget that thing about the whales, totally random, but it made sense! Anyway you have to work for your grade, but it's worth it.
Great teacher, funny guy, the lectures are actually interesting to sit and listen to. The tests are really tough and just 3 of them make up your entire grade, but if you read the book, take good notes, and ask questions, you can get a good grade.
Great in class, tests'll kill you. I understood everything in class and read the book and couldnt' cut it on the tests. IF you are good at multi-choice, and the language of econ, great class no homework. Otherwise, find a new prof.
He'll tell you the first day of class that he is the hardest professor that teaches microeconomics...LISTEN TO HIM! If you are the kind of student that studies for tests a couple days in advance, YOU WILL FAIL! He is a very nice guy and is willing to help.
Salyards is definatly one of the most candid professors I've ever seen. His off-the-cuff comments about "the liberals in minne hall" crack me up. Just show up to all the classes, participate, and study and you will do just fine. Also, he brought us Bloedows doughnuts; nothing wrong with that!
Interesting lectures, super nice guy. But, really hard tests. Study a lot!
Great professor, interesting lectures, makes class fun. Tests are easy if you understand material, just make sure you don't screw one up.
Coolest class I have ever had. Don rules. I love his jokes and off color remarks. Hell to those damn Minne folks
he;s a great guy, but his TEST is so freeky and really make;s your head spin from one corner to another, his teaching in the class is realyl interesting. you shound not miss any class. but his TEST are god dam hardddddd.
very funny and great prof. explains info very well. go to class, make sure to understand charts, graphs, and how to do calculations and you'll do fine on the exams.
Awesome Teacher! Best I have had at WSU. His tests are VERY hard...make sure to study!!! He is a very nice person and is very willing to help. He lectures to make the subject interesting, I would recommend taking him especially if you are a business major and need to know this stuff.
The BEST econ teacher at WSU. Teacher VERY clearly, and is halarious in class. If you go to class and pay attention you probably don't even need to study.
Contrary to popular belief, Don's class is NOT hard! Pay attention, take good notes, and study. If you do this, the tests are a piece of cake. If not, the tests will be VERY VERY hard. If you half-ass the class, you will get a half-assed grade.
Hard class but super nice guy!
He is entertaining to listen to in lecture for the most part - has some good stories and can be funny. You should read the book and do the problems from it if you want to do well on the tests. Tests are tough but doing the problems helps a lot.
classes are fun, but his exams are freeky, tough i mean very tough. If you read the chapter a night before, then he is not good for you. 90% drops his class, and for finals there are only about 10 people, so imagine, i guess i dont have to say more.
Very helpful professor but the exams are so hard. As the exams are hard it is very difficult to get A. I haven't taken such hard exams of my life.
Study for the tests and you'll do fine. Very interesting guy. Genuinely dedicated to teaching, extremely knowledgeable about his subject. Always makes class interesting.
He is a great prof, but he grades quite hard. Many people dropped out of the course simply because it was too hard. I enjoyed attending class even though it was lecture. If you are willing to study for a few hours for each of the three tests...take this class!
He will grade and return items you hand in quickly. Exams were not curved, however extra credit opportunities were presented. He spends way too much time expressing his conservative and libertarian political views, several class periods were completely wasted due to this.
Fun Prof. Knows what he is talking about. Exams are fine if you take a half an hour a week to read the material. Honestly, I was expecting worse. Very interesting lectures.
good professor, very difficult. study hard, ask a lot of questions. he gives a lot of great examples.
I studied for almost 10 hrs. for one of his tests and i got a C...i felt confident going in to the test and terrible leaving, his questions are very hard. You have to know your stuff.
Professor Salyards is a great professor, I admit that you have to know your stuff on the tests, but he makes everything so clear and understandable in class and will help you whenever you need help. I recommend taking him for Econ 201
His class is very hard but he makes it interesting. The first day of class he wants to know who looked on here and what it said about him! He is great at helping anyone who needs help and he loves answering questions. If you tell him you like the Cubs or Packers he will like you right away.
This class is pretty hard, but the teacher is awesome. He's so enthusiastic and he knows SO much. I'd recommend this class. Just make sure to study!
salyards is an awesome guy.. go to class and u will/should understand the material.. then study the week of the test.. its not too hard.. tests are short (33 ?'s) and mult. choice.. just go to class and you'll b fine
great teacher
Take advantage of extra credit! He will give you 1, maybe 2 chances for it, but make sure you do it because all points are test points. Go to class and you will be surprised how well you understand the material. Study the book and PP before tests and you will do fine. Only 3 tests and 33 ?'s per test. EC is huge, believe me. Take this class.
He is super easy to listen to and you actually have fun in class. only bad thing is the only grades you get are the tests, but if you go to class, you will do fine on the tests
Great teacher. He is very helpful, clear, and keeps students intrigued during lecture with entertaining stories and course material. He uses the best examples, things that students can really relate to. I'm not gonna lie:DO THE READINGS AND GO TO CLASS. This class is not an easy A. HARD tests! Only grades in the class are the tests. Be prepared.
undisputed KING of economics.just keep attending the classes and u will do just fine!
If you are going to take Economics at all, try to get it with Salyards. The man is an economics genius. The tests were pretty difficult, but his explanation of the material is awesome. Read the book and do the study questions at the end of the chapters; he will help you if you aren't getting the right answers. Do any extra credit he gives.
Well he's definitley not boring, very opinionated, and sometimes offensive. Class points only come from tests, so do the e.c. when it comes up. I never questioned his knowledge on the material, it was just hard to learn from him. He would be explaining something, and just when I was getting the idea he would stop and start to tell a story. Pass
really good
not an easy A or B class, you need to work your ass off but he is nice and care about student
ya rite.
He runs 401 more like a business than a class. Nearly the entire semester is dedicated to setting up and running a 3 day camp for high school students. A great experience and exposure to entrepreneurship.
Tells you what you need to know. Tells some interesting stories that are ussually relevant. Can get a little off track but not to the point that he doesn't tell you something you need to know. Grades on 4 tests only which can be good or bad, I liked it.
Amazing professor. He's extremely interesting. Tests are very difficult. Go to class just to listen to his stories. Will help you with anything you need. This man is an economic genius!
Salyards is my favorite professor. Attend class, and do the extra credit. i ended up with an 88, and he bumped me up to an A because of that. He's hilarious in class and tells some pretty interesting stories. The only 3 tests deal he does isnt for everybody, but its not like they are impossible. study what he goes over in class. good luck.
Salyards your the man! He loves to make fun of Minne Hall. Really cool prof. Tells lots of good stories that actually relate to econ. Lectures are interesting and upbeat. You willl actually learn something from listening to him. However his test are extremely hard. Very difficult wording on most questions. Test are the only thing graded in class.
Salyards is by far the smartest person here at WSU. He knows his stuff. He explains things till you really understand them. I can't even express how good of a teacher he is. And his classes are interesting and fun. He is a funny guy and has great stories so it is very easy to enjoy class. Take him, you wont regret it, he is awesome.
Good teachers. Tests were tough. grade is only based off 3 tests but if you go to class and rad the book you'll do fine. lectures are always interesting and he's always willing to help outside of class. If i had to take him again i would
salyards is the man! you dont need to go to class, but if you do he gives life lessons that are worth knowing. Talk about bledous doughnuts for an entire class. Test are easy if you go to class. never read the book for this class and I am getting an A
Wonderful professor and easy class. Take if you need an econ elective! Nice guy, about 95% of test questions come from his website under answers to selected questions. All MC tests, no homework, just the 3 tests so make sure you study the MC questions because they are on the test! Definately take :)
Amazing. Not as hard as everyone says... i didnt open the book once and got an A. Just listen very carefully and only take important notes. look at the online quizes too a lot of the test questions are similar. if i could have him teach every class i ever had i would.
Excellent professor! This guy loves what he does and he shows it. Great powerpoints available online in case you miss class. Kind of in the middle of things when it comes to difficulty. Homework is online and fairly simple; Tests are multi choice on scantrons.I will take him for every class I can, 9/10
By far, the best professor at Winona State. The material was tough but he broke it down so that a small child could understand supply and demand. The only class that i have ever truly enjoyed attending.
TAKE HIM
hard general, nice guy but tests are impossible. do the homework its 40% of ur grade. class isnt mandatory, i went didnt help me, my friend never went turned out we got the same grade, i wouldnt recommend him, funny and nice but very hard class for a general
my only business class and he made it relevant and interesting. Charismatic in a field which lacks charisma.
Down to earth guy and not afraid to express his opinions. I did find that he reads from his slides, period. Yet his exams text you in a different way than the slides he read to you. Econ major here, almost always A's and B's...not this class. Finally an econ prof that isn't boring but you better make damn sure you understand everything.
i am terrible at math and all of this kind of stuff but he makes it extremely easy. all quizzes are online so you can use your text book. really fun and funny- definitely take him.
A very good guy, and a solid professor. Even if you're just sampling this class from the "buffet", it's definately worth your time and money. Salyards is a successful entreprenuer and an educated economist who WILL teach you the material. Show up, take notes, do your online quizzes each week and you have a B. Homework isnt mandatory, but it helps..
i dont like him. he has online quizzes that even with the book are hard. there are 2 exams and a non cumulative final, which are kinda hard. he babbles in class and talks and answers himself. he brought donuts in once but i dont care, hes just not a great teacher. its very do it yourself. i would take another teacher if you can.
Prof. Salyards is one of the best teachers I have had at WSU. He tells you great stories and really loves to get to know his students. If you ever have any questions he is always willing to help.
All of the information he says on class is only half the information on the exams. He usually just talks about his own business in class and not about the material.
The professor only has three tests for an over all grade. So you do poorly on one and you are done. His tests are also kinda hard to understand as well.
Salyards is a great professor!! He is very nice and funny and he does a great job of making you understand the material. He uses real life examples and really knows his stuff. You do have to work hard in the class but I would highly suggest it.
He's a good professor. He knows his stuff and is willing to help you understand anything. He owns his own business so he is also able to relate things to the real world, which I personally find helpful with economics. It is true you only have 3 test and no curves, but if you read the chapters and attend class you will be fine.
Professor was entertaining and very enthusiastic about the topics in class. He was good as using real life examples but the three tests were very hard. The grade for the class is only composed of three tests with no curves.
Great Teacher. Teaches very well. Willing to help at his study sessions. Also willing to help outside of class. He responds to e-mails quickly, and his exams are pretty much ok as long as you study the Practice exams. TAKE THIS TEACHER! He makes you actually think.
You can't go wrong taking him. 3 tests, but you get some extra credit and a bit of a boost if no one gets 100%. His class is very fun and he will teach you real world examples that he experienced. He tends to make generalizations about Liberals, politicians, and majors so I encourage you to get into some good discussions. He will help with anything
He is a great guy, and very helpful. The class is fairly difficult so attend every lecture, because his tests are based on lecture and not really your book. He grades 3 100 point tests so pay attention
Excellent Prof. Light homework.
Great Teacher. Enough said.
One of the best teachers I have had at WSU. Difficult, but I learned so much in the class. You will have to work and study, but it will all be worth it. Trust me. Take him!!!
Professor Salyards is honestly the best and most insightful professor you will ever have. He is hands down the best teacher I have ever had in terms of relating material to real life. Easy homework and the tests are easy as long as you study.
Salyards is the best ECON teacher I have ever had. He is super funny in his lectures, makes a lot of great connections to real-life things, encourages critical-thinking not memorization, and gives you knowledge that you will carry with you for the rest of your life. In the last week of his class, he danced with us and gave us his advice for life.
Saylards is a G millionaire! He knows whats up and is a good professor!
Random. Not clear to understand. Helpful on homework assignments and not so much on actual test. Final is nothing like the practice exam. Same questions from practice exam but too confusing of questions to determine what he's asking. READ THE BOOK and pay ATTENTION to the examples and scenarios in the book. His lectures amount to nothing for final.
Great professor. He kept the class very fun, and was very helpful. He used real life examples that made it so much more clear. You can tell that he loves what he does. Talks about sports a fair amount so if that's fun if you like sports. Favorite professor that I have had so far. Thumbs up
Salyards is a great professor! My favorite professor at Winona thus far. He keeps lectures interesting and is always on his toes. He is energetic and has a passion for teaching. Go to class, take notes, watch the videos on D2L before class and you'll do just fine.
Dude is a boss. Lectures are interesting which is hard to do with economics. No BS kind of professor. If you want your grade handed to you go elsewhere. If you want to learn and have an alright time about it take him. Plenty of HW points if you mess up one test. Teaches you to think not memorize.
Salyards is very passionate about economics, and his lectures are very interesting and exciting. He teaches the material well, and the tests go along with his lectures very well. If you put the work in, you will get a good grade.
GREAT PROFESSOR!!! I was ill a lot during the semester so I couldn't complete the course, but I was there for about 2/3rds of the course and very outstanding. Outgoing, intelligent, and his examples are very easy to understand. One of the few professors I was excited to go to class. Take him and you will get a good grade if you go to class.
Just tipping my cap to the best professor I had during college between 1989-1993, by a landslide. Still read his blog to this day. I am thankful for crossing paths with him.
The guy's a joke, not helpful whatsoever.
if you study a lot thought it will not be easy to get B. A is almost impossible
This is a very challenging course, and I barely passed the class. However, I think the reason I did pass is because of professor Salyards. He is a very interesting character with good lectures, and he wants his students to succeed. I would recommend this professor, with warning that the course is not easy. Study hard for the tests.
Heres what I did in this class, read the whole chapter in the book the week before he lectured it, took notes from the book. Studied the class every night. Worked hard on the assignment packet. Met with the tutor. I finished the class with an 88%. This class is great for learning beyond the subject. Put in the work and you will receive a B if not A
I didn't mind going to his class. He always had great stories and related well to his students. He is very smart and friendly! He offered to pay students to rake his yard in the fall. His tests are hard, so just study for them. Be sure to read the book because there are quite a few questions from there. Lots of "free" points for in class assignment
Professor Salyards is amazing. His lectures go at a pace I found slow; however, needed for the entire classes comprehension. You will have to go to class for in class hw. Participate and do a little studying for the exam, but an A is attainable. Not given out, but not difficult either. He has great opinions on topics and is a great guy.
Homework could be difficult. The tests were all multiple choice but difficult. He always kept lecture interesting and it was fun to go to class. He taught life lessons too which were good. If I studied harder I would have done better. I would recommend him but you have to do all the work.
Take him. He is great!! I actually enjoy going to class. I had him for an 8 AM and it wasn't even bad. I recommend him!
he was a great teacher with amazing lectures that related to the real world.
Salyards is a G , he owns a few businesses and property so he has good real life examples when teaching the material. If you keep up with homework, the readings and videos you should be fine
Salyards is by far the best professor I have ever taken at WSU. He is there for you if you need his help and is extremely good at giving lectures. Hes also a multi-millionaire and gives a great lecture on the last day of class. I cried it was so good. TAKE HIM
Honestly really didn't like this teacher. He is so rude to students, I don't recommend his class. Studied for all of his tests more than others and still almost didn't pass.
I love salyards but I have one thing with him here. In this class his grading is super sketchy. Thats all I have to say. otherwise take it.,
I respect Professor Salyards so much. His real life advice is very helpful, but sometimes his lectures can be unclear and confusing. You have to work hard for exams, where the class average is a D. He is a great professor overall!
He has a ton of great life experience that could be very valuable to students, unfortunately he doesnt explain anything well in class, I ended up learning more from the videos he posts on D2L than from his lectures. His Exams are extremely tough from my class, not the content but the way he words them is a nightmare to understand.
Fantastic professor. Makes lectures interesting; says things that others are afraid to say. People struggle in the class because micro econ can be tough in general, and he doesn't curve tests or offer extra credit. Tests are more conceptual that memorization based, so if you aren't that type of person, this class may be tough for you.
Good teacher, always willing to answer questions as long as you're willing to ask them.
He's a smart guy and knows a lot about economics, but he's not good at getting his point across. I found my self confused most of the time in that class.
Greatest professor I've had. Take him for Econ and you won't regret it. Very smart guy, but also teaches you lessons that you will remember for your life. I will not forget this man. Awesome, genuine guy.
Salyards is an amazing professor. I wish that he offered more classes at WSU. He is a believer that things are not just given to you in life. What ever grade you get is based on how you perform, he will not curve. All of the material is taught through his personal examples and his information is usable outside of the class and throughout life.
Take the class and you wont regret it! show up and you will pass!
I am not an Econ person so this class was really hard for me. His teaching style wasn't very clear and he went through everything very fast. There are only three exams including the final but they cover a lot of chapters. The exams are hard. You have to really work to get a good grade in this class. He's really funny and nice but the class is hard!
Honestly don't understand why he has a high rating because he was one of the worst professors I've had. His lectures are very long and not always related to the material. You get homework every week and you have to watch boring videos on D2L. But honestly you'll learn more from the videos and book than you will going to class.
Honestly, I love Econ and he made me HATE it. I have no idea how so many people recommended him to me. His tests are INSANELY hard. He hardly will curve (if at all) and just forget about asking questions. His class is awesome but the second you don't understand something he looks at you like you're stupid. HE messed up grading and called ME stupid.
Salyards is the best prof you will ever take if you listen and GO TO CLASS. this isnt an easy class by any means but it is a very rewarding class. i learned so much and truly enjoyed his class. a great professor overall, but hes gonna make you work for it. you will take away much more than econ knowledge. lots of life lessons learned
Gets off track very easily
He is a really cool person, but his class is terrible. His tests are really hard and his lectures have almost nothing to do with what is on the test.
He's a cool dude and all and he's a great teacher. But you have to show up to pass the class. It's easy to skip because he doesn't take attendance but it really does pay off. You get a homework packet at the beginning of the semester that is worth more than test so do on those and you'll be good!
Great guy, but the class sucks. His lectures are hard to follow and he doesn't give any extra help. When the class is averaging 50% there's something wrong with the teaching.
Professor Salyards gives lectures where he trails off and talks about personal experiences during his life, but the lectures are fun and really engaging. He has a final lecture at the end of the semester where he gives life advice and talks about choices that we all have to make. That lecture is worth the entire semester and inspires everyone.
He curves the class at the end and gives extra credit opportunities. But, his tests are very hard and his lectures are confusing. He goes off on tangents during lecture and never comes back to the original topic. The homework has nothing to do with anything on the exams and most of the time he doesn't talk about any of it in class.
Professor Salyards is a good professor. The first few weeks of class, i didn't like his teaching style but it grew on me and is probably one of my favorite professors. I didn't like the class too much but Donald himself is a very good man. He offered extra credit. Try in this class, show up even though its not mandatory and you will do fine.
Salyards is a very smart man that has incredible life knowledge that he spreads to his classmates. Most of his lectures are personal experiences which is cool. The homework is pretty easy but I had to teach a lot of the material to myself. He has a hard time connecting his lectures to the tests which leads them to be hard. Worth it due to Salyards.
Entrepreneurship for Everyone - 1st time the class was taught. No book for this class. A few small papers, a drone project, many interesting guest speakers, and NO TESTS. Lots of attendance points. Designed for non-business majors. A must-take if you want a easy Goal 9 course.
It amazes me that he has such good reviews but I think the only reason people think he is so great is because the economics department at Winona SUCKS. This guy is such a jerk and messes up a lot of people's grades but he is always right so there is no arguing.
Salyards is a pretty good guy overall. I had a zero for an assignment because I forgot to put my name on it but he took the time to check through all of the papers he had to find out that it was my score that was wrong. It didn't change anything but I appreciated that he cared about my grade. He is willing to help if you just ask.
My biggest pet peeve with this class was how often class would just be him lecturing about his political views even when it was not relevant to the material (ex: spending an entire week complaining about teacher's unions) When he actually stuck to teaching the material his lectures were interesting but I would have learned more w/the online course
I believe Donald has to be one of the best professors on campus. His lectures were always interesting (keeps students involved) and he also does review sessions to prepare for tests. However, do not try to turn in assignments late. It won't work and you will get on his bad side.
Slayards is the most kind, caring professor I have had a Winona State. His class is not easy but he truly wants his class to make you a better person. You will work for every point in his class but he is always available to help as he gives you his phone number so you can text him if you need anything.
Absolutely terrible professor. Salyards is a very tough grader, and almost all of his practice exams he gives out are genuinely worthless as they don't pertain to the exam hardly at all. His lectures are horrendously boring, some of which don't involve econ at all. He gave a week long lecture about schooling in America. What? Avoid this professor.
Probably the best ECON professor at Winona State. There is plenty of worksheets that are pretty easy which helps make up points in the class. The exams are kinda difficult, but if you look at his practice exams you should be able know what will be on the test. He offers a lot of extra credit, which I highly recommend going to! Super friendly guy!
Do ALL OF THE EXTRA CREDIT. It is the only way to balance out the tough tests. The class average on all 3 of the tests were in the low 60's where it wasn't uncommon to see someone get below 40% on them. For me I got low 70% on all of them and scrapped by with a 82% because I did ALL extra credit and ALL the assignments. He curves up 2% in the end.
Favorite professor for sure. You need to work for the grade that you want to receive. He is very willing to help you succeed if you are willing to put in the work. Lectures are never boring as well.
If you value your time, prefer structure, and actually want to learn about entrepreneurship,,,do not take this class. If you are looking for an easy GPA booster, are ready to do busywork, and want a class with no exams,,,take this class. -basically no syllabus -random class structure -lots of participation points -extra credit opportunities
I am a RTTR student, but I volunteered my time for Don's Entrepreneurship to help provide a camp for ALC students. It was so much fun and he put the responsibility on us to do things, which felt more like the real world than a typical classroom set up where you get told to do things. Overall he is a great guy who wants to help students succeed.
This is an amazing class which is designed for every different student, no matter what kind of major you are, or even you haven't decided yet, that's totally fine! Just take it! If you do so, you will get tons of insightful knowledge which can be beneficial to your entire life!
Hands down the best professor I've at Winona State. Not only does he teach the class very well, but he is a very knowledgeable business person. The class is easy as long as pay attention, attend, and do the assignments. I would recommend this class to anyone. Listen to everything he says, not just about the class, but life in general.
I had a fairly pleasurable experience in this class. It's an easy other than the presentation that is the final (which is still pretty fun). There is minimal homework and it's mostly just listening to successful business owners.
I definitely recommend Entrepreneurship for everyone! Salyards' class is a refreshing change of pace. He just wants you to enjoy the course and really take something out of it.
by Far best teacher Ive had in 4 yrs. Great man. Roll model really. Can tell he cares about his students. If your reading this considering taking his class. Do it. I gurantee you dont regret it. Soak up his information. Such an informational man. Very honest, and I like that. Id take his class again in a heart beat. Any class of his I would.
Didn't know what to expect when I first walked into this class. I was pleasantly surprised. Professor Salyards is by far one of the most knowledgable individuals I've had the pleasure of meeting. He goes above and beyond for you if you are a reliable/ hardworking. If you put in the small amount of work that this class requires, you will get an A.
Pro. Saly is a man who knows what he is teaching and easy to talk to. He listens to students and take our advises. Econ 101 is not a hard class. It helps you to find yourself and give you advises if you are interested in starting a business. We had 10 entrepreneurs came and spoke in class. Write a paper on each speaker. No test. One final project.
Interesting class with a lot of presenters, however some of the assignments were short notice.
Great professor. The class was very interesting.
Your grade for econ 401 is largely based on a "mini camp" you put on for ALC high school students at the end of the semester. You have to take the weekend off for it but its worth it! Salyards is a really laid back professor and has a big heart! 100% recommend taking this class.
Professor Salyards is an amazing guy. Recommend this class to anyone who needs to take an Econ class for a goal. Very fun and interesting class.
He brings in a lot of guest speakers which is nice to hear how people decided to create their companys and tell us their stories, its a good class to take for all majors its not just business majors it is a class for everyone, short 1 page papers are wrote after each guest speaker and the class is a great gpa booster and teaches you a lot.
Took this intro level entrepreneurship class. Was lots of fun and able to listen to lots of guest speakers from all different backgrounds. Learn a lot about life in this class. Feel as if this class is very valuable for anyone not just people in business majors. If you show up to class and put in an effort with the papers you will do great.
Entrepreneurship for everyone isn't a very hard class there are no tests in the course most of it is listening to presenters. There is a lot of short essays to complete in the class but most of them are simple because there are based on the presenters from class. Not my favorite class so far in college but not bad and it covers a goal area.
Prof. Salyards is a great guy with tons of knowledge, cares about his students and is always willing to answer any questions you might have after class. Entrepreneurship for everyone was a very easy class, 10 guest speakers, a short paper about each one, a few other random assignments and a final project at the end. 10/10 recommend for any major
Salyards is easily on of the best professors at Winona State. He truly cares about his students and and how they do in the class. He is very personal and respectable as well. There are a lot of guest speakers that come in, but its nice because you get to hear advice from actual business owners. Great professor and class... recommend!
To be perfectly honest I didn't really care for Salyards at first. I thought of him as arrogant and ignorant. However, through the progression of the class I was able to appreciate much of the advice he gave to us regarding not only business but life in general. The class itself is pretty easy. Short essays- attendance points- guest speakers.
Entrepreneurship for everyone was a fun course overall. However if you are expecting an intro to business class you'll get a little bit but not a lot. The class focuses more on speakers and a slight introduction to business mechanics such as supply and demand. I would suggest people outside of a business major to take this course.
40% of grade is from attendance, 40% from final PowerPoint, and the remainder from homework. No tests in the class
I took Entrepreneurship for Everyone with Professor Salyards. There aren't any tests, but you do get points for attendance. You'll have to write a few short papers for the speakers that will come in, but none of the work is difficult. Recommend if looking to fill a goal
Have had Don Salyards twice now. The most inspirational professor I've had. Truly cares about his students, is hilarious, and very understanding. If you take his class, you will learn, and be a better person afterwards. 10/10.
I unfortunately did not take any classes with Don, however, I had the opportunity to collaborate with him and one of his classes for an Entrepreneurship Mini Camp. He is very organized, really cares for his students and as long as you're a hard worker, is willing to help you out in any way!!!
Amazing life advice
I love Prof. Salyards. Best college professor I've taken so far
Salyards is great professor, even if the class is hard. If you want an A YOU HAVE TO WORK. If you just want the grade, don't take him. I would definitely recommend his class though. Great speaker with great experience and you'll learn a lot. You are missing our if you don't take the class
Great professor although his class is very hard. He makes his lectures interesting, but the tests are based off the book so if you do take his class, then make sure you read the textbook. Attendance is absolutely necessary
He is a great guy that really wants you to learn. His tests are almost impossible though, I read the book, never missed a lecture, watched D2L videos, and studied a TON for the exams and barely passed this class with a C. Interesting lectures, overall great guy with a lot of knowledge and experience. Just super hard tests, if he offers EC DO IT!
Donald Salyards is the best Professor I have ever had and likely the best I ever will. He teaches from life experience and truly wants you to succeed. Unlike some Professors he has had a successful private sector career, and I believe that he views his teaching as a ministry for those he teaches and not just a paycheck.
The book will be your best friend in this class. Donald Salyards is a nice guy but his tests are way off topic with the actual class itself. Make sure to listen during his lectures because some of the things he talks about isnt even econ related and he puts it on the test. HOWEVER he curves the grades really well at the end of the semester.
He is a pretty funny guy. If you pay attention to most of his lectures you should pass. The test were very hard even if you study. His lectures are long and quite boring. Often side tracks and tells stories about himself.
Prof. Salyards is the best teacher I've had at Winona State. I didn't show up a lot and barely studied for the test and still got an A in his intro course. Make sure to do good on test and if you're having trouble in the class going to ask for help will greatly improve your grade.
Mr. Salyards is one of my favorite professors. He does want you to participate, but it's very easy. Hardly any homework. Attendance is required, but I wanted to go to class, He has a lot of speakers come in and they were interesting. Would definitely recommend
great experience
Salyards is awesome and I'm glad I was able to have one of his classes. Enjoy Retirement!
Such an amazing professor and man. Really respect what he did for the school. Having a triple by-pass surgery and coming back to finish off his career was outstanding. His last little speech really touched me. Thank you Salyards!
