I compare every teacher to him. He's just a great person. I loved his class. I still have the book we used. It's the only textbook that has all sorts of notes and dog-ears. I felt like I was always in class with good friends. Everyone in his class built great friendships and some of us continued to email each other even after the class ended.

My number one favorite teacher. I love english either way, but this teacher just really makes you laugh and it's a super enjoyable class. He does grade kind of hard, but come on, it's 102 so you are definetely expected to carry your wait, but he is SUPER helpful. Take him. You won't regret it. Just do the work.

Martinez is a great prof. His essay grading can be a little irrational at times, but you likely won't find the class hard at all. There is a good amount of reading every week, so you need to be prepared. However, class discussions are fun and engaging for these readings. He's also got a great social personality. Recommended!

I took 3 out of 4 ENG classes w/ Donato. ENG 61, 101, and 102. I enjoyed them all, teaches differently from other professors. He is a hard grader when it comes down to the essays, best thing you can do to get an A in the class is going to the writing center for help. Overall he is an awesome teacher! Definitely one of my favorite professors at SAC.

Martinez challenges students to write well -- because that is his job. Read the material, read outside sources, and write at the college level and Martinez will reward you. He won't knock you for a comma splice as much as he will knock you for an incoherent sentence. He relates well with students and current events in his subjects, so no whining.

His an amazing teacher. Read the material and you will do fine in the quizzes. The class mostly consist of class discussions, but you learn a lot from it. I had a great experience taking his class. His also a very understanding teacher.

Good class discussions. Makes class enjoyable, read 2 books for the whole semester. Not many test but essays almost every week real hard grader thou. Overall great teacher although beware of his cussing.

I took english 101(emphasis on chicano literature) with Professor Martinez back in 2005. He's a great professor and we read very interesting books with emphasis on Chicano literature. If you work hard you will get a decent grade in his class. He cares about his students and tries to help every way he can.

Donato is the best English Professor i have come across. if you are big in your Hispanic culture he is the professor you are looking for. Coming into his class i HATED English. After his class writting to me became easy. He does regire you to write atleat 6 essays but they are fun, and he gives you about 2 weeks to write each one.

Professor Martinez was excellent! I love how he engaged the entire class is literature discussions, and how EVERYBODY had a turn at participating. This is a literature class, so keep in mind that all assigned reading material must be done prior to attending the next class, because you WILL get tested. This professor is worth taking!!!!

Probably one of my favorite teachers on campus, class isn't easy but fun. Grades harshly but motivates to do better next time, my egg writing improved dramatically while in his class.

He is very helpful when you ask for help. I have taken him for english 61 and 101. You have to read the books that he assigns and from there everything goes smoithly. If you don't like reading then you won't do good. Just do your work a n d attend class

He's such a great professor cannot stress that enough. Really seems like he enjoys what he teaches and that really resonates with his students. You'll leave that class enjoying english, believe me. You will need the required books I recommend renting them. And yeah, you will have to work to get a good grade, but he is one who cares and helps y'all

I'll be honest with you all. I recently finish his summer 101 class. A 6 week course. And it is probably one of my top 5 instructors i ever had. All he ask of you is to participate with him. He will make you laugh, and push you to do your best. He is someone you can call a friend. Just that he is a tough grader. So pay attention on his "SIDE NOTES"

He is a very good teacher I honestly had a nice time in his class. He helped me a lot when I needed it. He made class fun, advice he is a though grader but it's only because he wants you to do good. He was hilarious and was caring towards us. He wants you to participate in class discussions. He was awesome! I would take his class again.

Nervous on my first day but Martinez made it easy to feel comfortable right away. You could tell he's a chill professor who got along well with his students because of his funny & open attitude. He is a tough grader. You gotta double the effort you put in to get a passing grade on essays. He encourages participation, you get called on if you don't!

I took Professor Martinez this Spring (2016) for English 61 and he was awesome! He's a super chill and hilarious person who actually cares for his students. You do read 2 interesting books and just requires another book. I recommend taking him the lowest grade he gives on an essay is a C as long as you try. Tough grader but prepares you for 101.

He is pretty hilarious and pretty inept at entertaining the class with his jokes and stories. He truly cares about his students and he will help you if you ask for it. He is a tough grader and honestly you need to work your butt off to do well on exams, quizzes, and essays. Especially the research essay. But it is possible to pass. Believe!

Literally, the best teacher you will ever take!!! He is hands down hilarious and funny. You have 4 papers max, which are only 3 pages in length. Quizes are based off readings(you need the book) and supppper easssy. Just talk in class and guaranteed an A. Lastly, there's a easy group project. He's very flexible, patient, and wants you 2 succeed!

His grading is a little tough but reasonable. He makes class very entertaining. Make it so the subjects that he is teaching are interesting.

He is the coolest dude on the planet. he will let you turn in late work if you having problems doing homework. he answers emails right away. He will help you every step until you pass his class. If you're okay with recieving a B or C then he's a great professor. Really tries to make you a better writer, however if you're not already a gifted writer there's no way you'll get an A. Does not have clear standards or really any standards, he grades essays based on how he feels rather than the writing itself. Most people got a C on every essay.

After taking his class I learned how to dissect, analyze, and comprehend not only literature but almost everything: movies, songs, articles and much more. I took Donato Spring for ENGL101 and his lectures were very clear and interesting. He is not boring at all. He made learning, reading, and writing fun because he compared it to real life examples. Showing up to class is important unless you WONT pass! Participation is also important, he would usually make us get into groups to interact and present.

Professor Martinez really cares for his students, he's one of the only professors I've met who bothers to remember names. Get ready to participate during lecture because he will call on you randomly. We wrote a total of 3 essays, and had 6 quizzes, along with multiple writing assignments.

Professor Martinez is a great professor to have for someone who is a first time college student. He has a good sense of humor and keeps the class engaged during lectures. Also, my essays have improved gradually during the fall semester. He can be a tough grader, but he gives really good feedback. I definitely recommend him.

I am usually really introverted but he helped me come out of my shell by randomly calling on me. The class discussions were always fun and engaging, even with it being online the unity of the classroom was great. The work is easy and his feedback is understandable. Show up, participate and do the work youll be fine.

I took Martinez in person during summer and I enjoyed his lectures because he always made them so relatable and funny! You did write essays often but they weren't too hard, in my opinion (3-5 double spaced papers). We only had to write one 10 page research paper! It was an Easy A for me, there were no quizzes or exams.

I definitely recommend taking this professor. He was super understanding and relatable. He takes being his career very seriously and is passionate at teaching which is very admirable. He was a bit of a tough grader but is constantly available for further feedback and help.

Professor Martinez is probably one of the best instructors I have personally ever had he truly cares. Overall a really good professor. There is a lot of essays, and writing. A lot of participation is required and if youre not raising your hand hell probably call on you. Super chill and relates to his students and talks about his life in situations. A pretty hard grader when it comes to work but explains things well.

Took him over the summer so it was a 6-week course. Prof. Martinez is a tough grader with essays. Really chill but not an easy A but most likely a B if you apply yourself. Some assignments said that they were due the same day he assigned them but he really gives you until before class to submit and still receive full credit.

my name is Stephanie A. recently took this general ed class, as a requirement for my major for RD. I was hesitant to drop it since it was an inetrsection meaning it was faster than a regular course, well I'm glad I made the choice to stay. Not only did he have a huge impact in my life as a professor, he has shaped me to be the person I'am now.

Took him during the summer. His teaching style is somewhat boisterous but he's chill, nice, and has interesting units like relationships and cartoneras. There were no quizzes or exams. He gives a good amount of time to turn in assignments and provides detailed assessments on them. I enjoyed his class very much. Thank you, Mr. Martinez!

Very good Professor, Professional but definitely cares for his students. He will make everyone feel comfortable in class. Participation is important in class. He is a funny guy gives interesting assignments based off personal experiences to every student.

Donato Martinez is one DOPE Professor! We need more teachers like him! HE is super knowledge and give awesome assignments! He also is author and poet but he is super humble about it. Just all around great person!

He's a pretty chill guy; the class is very participation oriented. Grading is a little harsh. Missing a single assignment will drop your grade for sure. He's really nice and actually connects with students though so I'll give him that.
