Organic Chemistry is a really hard class, but this teacher makes it impossible. Teaching isn"t his favor and he doesn"t care if you understand his class or not. He flies the material on the board and you are on your own to learn. You will be better to don"t attend his class because he cannot teach. You will never learn anything from him. Terrible..

Horrible teacher. One of the worse I ever took. I cannot agree with those students who say that he helped them after class. I do not reccomend this teacher for Ochem for the following reasons. First, he didn't explain some important concepts clearly; if they were mentioned at all. Also, he is very hard to predict. ochem is a difficult subject. if you attend lecture, STUDY YOUR LIFE AWAY, and do the practice problems, youll be fine. i think all the professors are equal in quality, you just have to know that ochem is not memorizing things, you have to study and LEARN. there comes a point where its on the student and not the professors. good luck :)

Attendance is non mandatory but it is difficult to understand the material without attending. Exams are difficult but he gives a study guide with no answers, most are found on the textbook, but several are never mention in the textbook. There are no partial points in exam. He explains things well, easier to master ochem by doing every HW Q's.

He was a great professor. Ochem is hard regardless, but his exams are very straightforward. Do ALL the homework, pay attention in lecture, LEARN mechanisms, do the practice exams (they are VERY similar to exams) and go to office hours if you need extra help. An A is definitely achievable, but you will have to work for it.

Dr. Lee is a very good professor. He has 10+ yrs. of experience teaching organic chemistry, so he has a very honed & principle-oriented teaching style. Class is very interactive-- lots of questions & problems. His exams are difficult and timed, but similar to the practice exams he gives out, with examples & problems from the textbook. He curves.

I had Dr Lee precovid and failed, because I did not do what he says, read, study notes and do the homework at least 3 time. Even then, I would still give him an A+ rating because the fault was my own. I took him for 242 and got an A, why? I did what he said, read, study his notes and do the HW at least 3 times. Ochem is not hard, if you do the work

Its a tough subject no matter who you take but Lee is a great guy. Super respectful and nice. DO THE HOMEWORK PROBLEMS and youll be fine. 4 quizzes 4 exams. All problems come from the homework. Reagents will be mixed together and different abbreviations will be used to try and trick you a little but if you know the mechanisms then youll be good.

Dr. Lee is a solid choice for ochem, he was so much better than the prof I had for ochem1. He made things very straightforward. All I did was watch his lectures, read the textbook if I needed more info, and did his suggested homework problems. Definitely know all of the reagents and have an understanding of the mechanisms and you'll be fine

Dr. Lee is the best & nicest Professor at UNLV. His expectations & lectures are clear. The hmw he assigns from the book & practice from lecture prepare you for his exams. Hes more than happy to answer questions & help his students. He did curve for spring 2021. Dr. Lee for ochem is the best! Its still a hard class so you have to put in the work.

Dong-Chan Lee is an awful OCHEM professor. His quizzes and exams are short, but account for SO MANY POINTS. One mistake can destroy your grade! He uses pre-recorded lectures where he just talks at you and expects you to understand everything. When students had issues during tests, he responded condescendingly. Nearly EVERYONE failed! BEWARE!!!!!!!

Dr. Lee gets a bad wrap, but so do all of the OChem professors. Dr. Lee is very friendly but business like and that seems to put off a lot of students. Follow his lectures/record them/ask questions, he puts a lot of the "suggested problems" on his exams and quizzes. He usually gives out a practice exam and anywhere between 50-75% are on the exams.

Ochem 1 is a hard class but its doable with Dr. Lee. For me, I watched the lecture & did the hw twice (actually understanding how to do each question is crucial). A couple exam questions would resemble HW questions. Lectures were pretty decent but I used the book to understand better. Practicing over and over is key. Would recommend for Ochem 1.

Dr. Lee is amazing! His tests r hard but all of the test material are straight from his notes, the end of chapter problems, and the additional problem sets he makes. Pro tip: GO TO OFFICE HOURS. His office hours are where you can have a close to 1-1 learning opportunity. He may be harder than Kang, but he genuinely wants you to understand Ochem 1.

Dr. Lee is very knowledgeable in Organic Chemistry, but he does make his exams quite difficult. His class had the lowest test scores and he gives quizzes that people often do terrible in. Many people quit this class in the middle of the semester, he teaches the class very well, better than the other professors, but his exams are too difficult.

The majority of exam questions come directly from lecture, recommended problems, study guides, and past quizzes. Go to office hours to review practice problems/quizzes, even if you like to self-study. He will not test you on anything in the textbook he does not go over in class. However, he will test you on mechanisms/reagents not in the textbook.

Dr. Lee really loves ochem. Difficult subject but he does a good job of trying to make it interesting. Only grades come from quizzes and tests, questions come directly from lectures and practice problems so take good notes in class and do the suggested problems. Ochem is an extremely difficult subject. Dr. Lee's exams are a testament to this; our class averages were in the low 50%'s. With that being said, Dr. Lee's lectures, while fast-paced, were informative and fairly engaging. He legitimately cares about student understanding and success, rare for a professor nowadays. Go to office-hours, go to lecture.

I studied 10x the amount I usually study for other classes and still ended up with a D in this class. Good luck if you decide to take his class.

I've gotten to know Dr. Lee over the semester, and I think he's one of my favorite professors I've had so far. He told me EXACTLY how I needed to study bc I averaged a 45% on all of the exams, but for the last exam I managed to get a 73%, and I think that proved to him that I deserved to pass. He's generous w/ the curve if you put in the effort.

Exam averages is always less than 50%. Class grade is exclusively exams/quizzes and he crams a ton of content into a 75 min exam. For exam 2, DCC coupling/ranley ni mechanisms were tested despite never once being on the hw. He can teach but that doesn't justify bad hw and disproportionately difficult exams. No replacement/drops. No partial points.

Objectively he is a good professor. He does cover a lot in his lectures but it's not his fault, it's ochem itself. I didn't know how to study properly in ochem 1 but after taking Lee, he gave me some studying tips that brought my test average from below 50% to 70-80%. He won't test you on mechanisms but still goes over them.

The exams themselves were quite difficult with averages in my semester ranging from 40 to 50%, he does provide a curve at the end. His office hours are very helpful and he does meetings by appointment as well as answers any questions through email. He does not use lecture slides and only uses a whiteboard which makes the lectures hard to follow.

Lectures are extremely messy and do not clearly represent what's expected for exams. Quizzes are grade bombers instead of cushions as they're set up like a mini-exam (Proctored), wasting lecture time. Chooses the hardest problems possible for quizzes. Does very little to prepare you for the level of difficulty expected of his exams/quizzes. Avoid!
