THIS IS MY FAVORITE CLASS THIS SEMESTER! If you have the chance to take self defense with him, do it. He's knowledgeable about the moves he teaches, and after every class he says "I'll see you guys next time if McDonalds doesn't call back." (CSULB PAY THIS MAN MORE) He gurantees that if you show up to class he'll give you an A which is nice.

Excellent professor all around. Works well with students if they can't do any exercises due to injuries, religious beliefs, etc. Allows you to show up to another one of his classes if you can't make it to the one you are enrolled in (sometimes). Checks to see if the students are doing all right when doing each of the exercises. Easy A. Very cool.

Professor Ha is most likely my most caring professor to date. The class is incredibly easy and he tries his hardest to make it an enjoyable class. We learn a lot in class so it is best to show up to all classes, but all of it is important and made understandable. Take this class if you want to learn to defend yourself and have a good time.

I really enjoyed learning from this instructor because of his vast skill set and past experiences. He is funny and caring. He has passion for teaching self-defense and is very accommodating to students with struggles like myself. Easy to learn with the way he breaks down maneuvers. Best self-defense, martial arts professor at CSULB. He cares for his students and looks out for us if we have problems with missing class, work hours, late assignments. Professor DongQuan Ha is the kindest, most caring plus badass professor I know. He totally knows his stuff and how to teach it, how to get us ready for different scenarios we might face. I love Professor DongQuan and how he takes care of his students. Got a problem, go talk or email him and he has your back covered. No questions asked. I love how he teaches us and does everything he tells us to do. He's on the ground rolling and sweating with us and leads up front. We had amazing times and laughed so much. There are many techniques from basic to advanced and they each build on each other so missing class will cause you to fall behind. The training and drills enable you to do the techniques right when the time comes. Master Ha knows how to get you ready for a fight. Had a great time came out knowing a lot. My buddies are scared of me now. Great class!

For a class teaching a serious subject, it was so fun, interesting. He made us laugh unintentionally. Professor Ha is the kindest and sweetest I have met. He prepares you for what could happen out on the streets with his training and pushes you to be doctors and lawyers so you don't turn out like him, a teacher...is what he says to us all semester.

It's a really fast class and ends in a blink of an eye. Lots of laughter, fun practice, good people all around. Come to class, get real training, skills, get an A. He's the best and takes care of his students. Take him.

This professor will take care of you, does whatever he can to help you no matter situation. Was falling behind in my other classes, he told me to focus on them instead of his class. Caught covid, missed class, family member got sick, had to take care of them, missed more classes. Lots little stuff came up the whole semester. He still had my back.

I love Professor DongQuan and his class and never liked my classmates more than in this class. We learned so much but it was easy if you came to class and had lots of fun practicing and attempting new skills. No pressure but if you really want to be prepared when attacked, go to class and sweat it out because most students will be doing it too. A++

Walking by, saw what was going on in the room, what seemed like students beating the heck out of each other. Waited around, find out what class it was, self-defense! Master DongQuan gave me a permission number to enroll and it has been the best class I've been in. Awesome training, advance techniques, made many friends, crazy good and I feel good!

I couldn't believe a self defense teacher can be so nice and caring to his students. I thought he was going be hard and mean. The class can be intimidating because of the real training and events he's getting us ready for in the streets but he makes the class feel warm, friendly plus everyone is nice to each other. It's fun and easy A, I miss it.

My favorite professor for sure. His class is great and the students all come together because his training requires a lot of working with partners and he rotates the lines after each set so you end up knowing everyone. I came out knowing so much but I am mainly grateful for having Professor DongQuan as my teacher.

We did a little of everything from standup fighting which included strikes, blocks, kicks to throws, sweeps, trips to ground fighting with scenario drills and lots of work with partners. He cares more about you and your grade and career than he does about his own class. He wants you to become doctors and rich and not a teacher like him. The best!

I enjoyed the class and everyone in the class and have so much respect for Master Ha. He cared about us, just wanted us to learn and practice and not worry about our grade for his class. I really liked doing the Zombie assignment because it made me think of my daily life and what tools I have in the house to survive. Master Ha is the kindest man.

I've taken Tae Kwon Do, self-defense before so I thought I was going to be one of the good students in the class, boy was I wrong. The way Professor DongQuan teaches and what he teaches and how students are trained, all my prior experience lost ground fast. When it was time for sparring, I was barely holding my own. This proves how good he is. A+++

The training is realistic while techniques are practical, I learned so much. Lots of drills with other students so I would go home and practice with my husband, didn't want to look bad doing the drills with in class. After awhile I got good and he was scared to practice with me cause I hurt him. Class is fun and friendly. Master Ha a great teacher.

One of the best professors I've had at CSULB. Extremely caring and ready to help each student. We learned lots of practical self-defense techniques. Besides that professor Ha was very funny and passionate about his job. I would definitely take his class again.

Professor DongQuan made practicing fun and easy. Never a bored moment and the way he teaches made class very enjoyable. Lots of laughs. Don't worry about your grade, just do your best. This is how every professor should be. The only thing is if you miss class, your classmates will not like you.

Master Ha let me practice with his class one time so I could decide whether to enroll or not. He didn't allow me to just sit and watch. I signed up right after class. Great training and fun and everyone laughing. The students in his class all friendly and helped each other out. This is a credit to how he teaches and him as a kind and caring person.

Let me tell you if you want an instructor who cares about you, you grade and your future...take his class. Get an A for having fun! You know an instructor cares about you when they tell you to be a doctor and not a teacher!

He prepares you for different scenarios that happen when you are attacked. He teaches you techniques that you will need to fight off attackers of different sizes and what they are doing to you. I didn't know there were so many ways of being attacked it opened up my mind. Definitely repeat his class couple times to really take it all in. Fun, easy.

I like how he takes care of his students with their grade and safety. He will do everything he can for you no matter how bad things are. He is very nice and easy to connect with.

Professor Dong Quan Ha is the coolest professor I have had. He cares more about your future than about his class. He takes care of his students like no other, is very approachable and sincere. Just don't take advantage of him like some students. It makes the rest of us look bad.

Instructor Ha is AMAZING. He cares about his students and always makes sure to give feedback on how they can improve their form. The class is more about learning the techniques and practicing them than anything else. There was one writing assignment that is pretty easy depending on the effort that you want to put into it but he is an easy grader.

Learning self-defense with instructor Ha was very enjoyable, he cares about the students and their grades and it shows when he teaches. It helps if you make friends with the people in the class so that when you are doing partner practice it isn't as awkward because you do get up close and personal with them occasionally.

Having fun and good classmates is the best way to learn and Professor DongQuan creates this in his classes. You will learn so much in a short time. The Zombie written assignment is easy but now that I am done with the class, I see how important it is and what I need to prepare because the pandemic is in a way a mirror of it. Awesome class!

Great teacher! great class! I had a blast, I think most of us did. Not only will you learn techniques to defend yourself but the zombie assignment teaches you that you also need weapons, equipment and supplies to survive and defend your family. He's such a caring teacher and looks out for his students.

I appreciated how Professor Ha engaged and include everyone in his class. He made sure to help and looked out for the weaker students, different student, shy students, foreign exchange students who weren't fluent in English and didn't leave anyone out. He didn't care what you were, only that you were his student and was kind and respectfully to us.

I liked how Master Ha taught us a little bit of everything. He said it's so we can adapt to whatever the opponent is using. He taught us striking, kicking, throws, take downs, traps, ground fighting and stuff I don't remember. What I loved the most is how kind, caring and nice and warm a master he is. All that skill and he's a teddy bear at heart.

Take this class and repeat it as many times as you can! One semester of this class is not enough. You want to learn it, know it by heart so you can use it. To get the same type of training off campus, you will pay a lot each month. The techniques are practical while Instructor Ha is very kind and caring to his students. Great class! Fun class!

Can't say enough good things about Master Ha. Everything was great and the kindness, care he gave his student is second to none. But the moment that stood out to me was when he got hired for a fulltime job in the middle of the semester and could of left, start a decent career, he didn't leave us. That's when I understood the heart of a true master.

I miss Professor DongQuan and his class and my classmates. He made a really good group and the class was laughing and having fun and we became tight with each other. He truly cares for his students had our backs with any issue that we had come up. That alone is worth signing up for his class.

Very fun class and easiest A you can get. You will learn so much without even trying because he's a great teacher, makes learning natural and exciting but most importantly he takes care of his students no matter how bad you are.

Probably the funniest Professor I've had. Attendance is important for this class but he's always got our back if we have something going on. Ha is awesome. If you can't make it to class, you can make up attendance during office hours and he is always willing to teach you more than what the class covers during OH. Not like other professors, he shows both defending skills and attacking skills when you need to attack the opponent to defend yourself. And importantly, those skills are relevant to all situations that you guys might have one day.

Instructor Ha is great at adapting to situations in self-defense that are "away" from the typical approach. He values knowledge over blindly getting techniques off. He lets students know that it's best to know all techniques rather than perfecting one, as in many situations, the conditions will be unpredictable. Amazing instructor, would take again

The best prof ever! It is a great class to destress. A lot of partner work, so get comfortable with everyone. He is hilarious, always protects you, and cares about his students. He wants everyone to get an A so just participate and you're good. You don't need to be good just try. It might seem like a scary class, but he made it easy to understand.

I'm kind of sad the semester is done and have to wait till the fall to take Professor Ha's class again. Don't worry about getting an A in his class, he keeps his word. Go to class and have fun. Truly an awesome professor and the cool part is he only cares about you getting an A and doesn't stress about his amazing class. Always dismisses his classes with love you all and helps you with your attendance. Take him before he leaves for another job.

Come to class, get an A. Laugh, have fun. Easy class, best professor around. But don't take advantage of his kindness, don't abuse what he is willing to do for you. I saw many students using him and you could see it weighted heavily on him. He is willing to give you an A but that doesn't mean you don't come to class. I have true respect for him.

Graduating this week it's been a long hard road thank God it's over. But in this last semester I was able to take this self-defense class and I can attest it's the best class I had taken in four years. Professor Ha was fun and even thought he was not making jokes, the class had many laughs. How he teaches makes learning fun and he covers your back.

Great class, insanely good professor, easiest A you can get. Oh and so much laughing and he has your back should you run into any problems during the semester. Just tell him what's going on with you and he'll cover for you. Make sure to thank him afterwards cause he's not your mother!

I will own up to it, I was the slacker, the ditcher, the student who didn't care. I needed one unit for aid, it fit my schedule. What I saw was how professor built up the class and the students got tight, they were really good. He is a great professor and teaches really well. Class was fun and always laughing. I wish I had taken it seriously.

This class and Master DongQuan was insanely good. I loved how I could always go to his office hours whenever I wanted to, just to hang out, talk with him or practice and he always had cool snacks in his bag which I was free to help myself to. He's a loner and normally by himself so it worked out. Love the class and love the master.

Professor Ha is the best, in what he teaches and how he treats his students. A group of us would go visit him during his office hours just to hang out with him. We love hearing about the shady gigs he does on the weekends to make a little extra money. And would eat all his snacks but would also bring him food. Love you Professor Ha.

I liked Professor Dong Quan's class very much. Each day was exciting and fun. He makes you want to learn and then try out what you have learnt. The classmates become cool and supportive too. I crossed things and ended up needing 1 unit to graduate after the semester was a month in. No other teacher would let me in their class after the late start. He's so nice and very knowledgeable about different martial art styles. Easy grader just show up and participate. If your form is messed up he'll adjust you. Be prepared to be touched and to touch other students. You'll have to spar with them and do ground work. Listen to what he says on the first day of class to know what you are getting into!

You will truly pick up skills that you know will be beneficial to you in the long run. The professor goes the extra mile to care for his students and make sure we all grasp the material and enjoy the classes with engaging and entertaining lessons.

I needed a 1 unit class and this self-defense class was not a difficult course but I learned a lot of practical techniques. Attendance is encouraged, as we cover a lot in one class session, so if you miss a class, you will fall behind. This is not your average self-defense class, you will get sweaty and learn a lot as well as have fun.

I would say this class is easy. But I also want to say I am glad for the challenge in class. I am glad for the experience and feel that thanks to this class I feel a lot more confident. The best part is when he tests you after showing you the strikes/blocks holds, putting us against each other. In real life these experiences in class, very useful.

Professor Ha is very knowledgeable about the self-defense techniques he teaches! It was overall a very fun and informative class as many moves were taught. Attendance is crucial as many moves can be taught in one class and if missed it can be hard to catch up. I was able to make two friends in class and had a really good time. 100% recommend!!

Most chill and caring professor I have had at CSULB. That doesn't mean it's a sleep walk class. The techniques are real and must be mastered to work. Besides being an awesome teacher, runs a great class, he totally cares for his students. The techniques are practical & the training is logical but the real stuff happens off campus. When He offers voluntary training, jump on it because spots fill up fast with 9 classes of students. Martial arts, stunts, shooting, hiking, fighting, totally insane!

I really loved going to Professor Ha's class because it was just fun times with classmates and the training was always exciting and fun. Everyone gets a good grade but the reality is you have to come to class to stay on top of all the techniques he teaches. Best experience for a college course and good memories.

I have taken this class two times already and will take it again next semester if Professor Ha is still teaching. If you want the techniques and type of training he provides outside of the university, it would be very expense each month. I miss this class so much. It was so fun and exciting and I was able to learn a lot. Always looked forward to coming to each meeting because there was always laughter and new techniques and fun drills every time. And my classmates were all cool so I made a lot of friends. Professor Dong Ha is the man! Not only did he have my back covered, but he also covered my back. He covers all the other students backs and has all of his students backs covered. Another great thing is that he backs his cover when his cover backs up, and covers his back when his back covers up. Just make sure you don't get your front revealed!

I really enjoyed the class, I loved how Professor Ha would cover his student for their missed days and grade. He makes sure you get an A on your midterm, final, and written assignment. My fav professor in my four years at Cal State Long Beach. The only class I wanted to go to every week. I loved talking to him and hearing stories of his outside work. The office back stabbing started on day one. He said trust no one so I didn't open up much and that saved me. I really miss him, wish I was still in his class.

I love Professor Ha and his class. It was so easy and informative in a fun way that makes you want to learn and prepares you for the streets with self defense equipment and preparation plans. But the main thing is I loved how Professor Ha takes care of his students, helps them with easy assignments, tests and makes adjustments so we can get an A.
