She's very funny. Her teaching is great and her clarity on the material is great. The only problem is that she gives too many exams. But other than that, she is a great professor. Take her if you plan to!
5/5 Psychology teacher in my list! Very encouraging and welcoming in her class. Gives reviews and wants only for you to understand the material in the class. She MAKES YOU WANT TO LEARN! :D
my class met twice a week so i had to rely highly on the text book to learn the material. but as a teacher she is very knowledgable on the subject. she truly trys and does a good job of helping students understand the mateial. creates a comfortable classroom environment for learning. i recommend her class. overall good experiance
Awesome professor always comes in with a smile & is truly happy when the student understands & applies the material. Make sure you read the textbook and study hard for every test or you will not pass. It is a fairly straight forward class. Entire grade determined by 4 exams and a final so study up!! Overall EXCELLENT professor! highly recommend her
Davis-King is a wonderful, warm-hearted woman who wants to see students succeed. She is inspirational and always encourages participation and discussion. Read & outline chapters before every class, use her study guides, and take advantage of xtra cred opps. It's hard work, but hey, it's college. Long Live, Dr. King.
You definitely have to study your notes and mainly your textbooks. A lot of her quizzes will come from information from the text book, even sections she may not have covered. She was a sweet teacher though and allowed make-up test and second chances on hw. I would definitely take advantage of any extra credit available
great teacher. I didn't have to study that much and it was a good class to take along with my harder math classes. Love her spirit. really recommend her. she really cares about her students.
took her for fall term last year and found her class straight forward. Just read the book, come to class and listen to the lectures which are pretty interesting half the time, take good notes, and study. If you do all this you should be just fine.
She's a good teacher, extra credit really helps a lot. I didn't put in too much effort and got an A. It's not the easiest class but I have definitely taken much harder classes. I recommend her.
Davis-King is an amazing professor and passionate about what she is teaching. She will make you learn without even knowing you are. It is not an easy class but it you attend lectures and keep up to date on reading you will be fine. She also gives extra credit (you have to work for it). Highly recommended!
Every lecture was interesting! Also, she uses different teaching methods like group work, lectures, and presentations. I actually learned something.
She was an awesome professor! The class was suppeerrr easy!! She is very kind and helpful, and wants her students to do well. Just pay attention and use your logic and you will do great!
Lovely lady. reminded me of oprah. very clear with what she expects from you. not the best with time management.
I'm a psychology major and I would totally take Psych 2 with Prof Davis King if she had a class! She cares genuinely for her students and she welcomes them to all of her office hours. 4 exams and 1 final. For most of the exams, there were 10 bonus questions to give you a chance for A.
I'm glad I took her class! She's a very nice professor and she cares so much about her students. I recommend her class to anyone who needs to take Psych for any reason. I could have gotten an A but I kept messing up. Still can't believe how much I learned from her teaching methods :)
You have to attend every class or else you might miss what the hw (which is random) or in class group work. Do the extra credit offered (5 papers) and you should be fine. Pointless to attend lectures because you're memorizing the chapters, group work is chaotic and not helpful. Need good study skills to do well.
Mrs.Davis-King is a good teacher. She wants you to do well, but her exams are a little difficult. Make sure you go to class to get the homework or you get peoples numbers to double check the syllabus (it will be your best friend) and get a picture of extra credit. You NEED the book and you HAVE to read in this class. Get good at APA format.
Davis-King was a wonderful and open-mineded instructor. Many Introduction to Psychology classes are simply lectures, but she incorporated many learning styles. The most important skill she taught me is to be an autonomous learner because that knowledge can be apllied to any class. She is patient and understanding of students' needs.
She is a great professor who makes the class interesting. she gives an exam every two weeks but they are really easy. She gives extra credit so you can improve your grade. She is an amazing teacher.
Nice prof. But I doubt she's a bit lazy on preparing lecture. She used PPT at the beginning of the semester, then these couple weeks she starts assigning group presentation projects. It's good. But can you accept a professor who always sit at the back of the class and listens to students doing lecture? 23 midterm content lecture by students.
Davis-King is a great Psychology professor who shows class and kindness to all her students. She integrates group learning and class discussion unlike most professors. It is essential to read the textbook and make your own outlines if you want to get a good grade. Get ready for a lot of APA format writing. it's very possible to get an A if you work
She was really nice and I liked the class.
Kind and caring professor, but not very clear in her lectures. Also, only 4 tests and a final - and all textbook context, nothing from her lectures. questions were confusing Used power points in the beginning but then strayed off into group presentations that weren't that helpful. Only way to get an A is know the textbook chapters by heart.
Make sure you READ THE TEXT BOOK and study for the tests. As long as you study, you will do well. The tests I got bad grades on were ones where I wasn't in class and didn't study. When I was there and studied, I aced them. Her lectures were easy to follow and weren't overwhelming. She's a very entertaining and nice professor.
She is REALLY funny! If you want to pass psych1 with an easy A and don't care about learning, take her. For Fall semester we only had a take home midterm, a project that you could do in a group of 2 and a final. Attendance doesn't matter to her and if you DO want to learn either take another professor or teach yourself with the very expensive book
Kind professor but she's not clear when she is lecturing. there are four test plus the final. she gives extra credit so you should do it! Lectures in the beginning and then group presentation in the next and back to lectures. it was all over the place. To earn an A is to read from the textbook and doing the extra credit.
She is very patient with her students, and she treats all her students equally. If you don't understand something, she will elaborate until you understand with no judgment at all! However, she puts strong emphasis on being an autonomous learning, meaning you need to learn to self-study and self-learn some of the material. Must read the textbook!
I love the way she teach. The power points are very helpful to understand better. She is a wonderful professor.
I would not recommend her class. She is a very lovely woman and encourages students to be scholars. However, she expects you to learn from the book. Tests have NOTHING to do with class lectures and all to do with the textbook. She is not clear on homework assignments and grades terribly because of it. The tests are HARD.
I took this class expecting it to be interesting and pretty easy despite the amount of information but this woman made it so much harder than it needed to be and sounded like she was just regurgitating memorized info in her lectures instead of talking about the subject like she knew it and discussing it with us. She's just totally out to lunch
She is a very caring and sweet lady. She'll try to help in any way. But she is extremely confusing and disorganized at times. Doing the extra credit is a must. The tests were hard and didn't really connect to her lectures. She wants her students to do well.
Professor Davis-King has a challenging Psych 1 Class. The tests are difficult, however she is an amazing teacher.. and is crystal clear. She has an amazing way with words, and her lectures are so interesting. take thorough notes and pics of powerpoints. She is so helpful. Go to office hours! You will leave her class a much stronger student.
Prof. Davis-king one of the best prof i had ever have at SMC. She is amazing!take her.
Read the chapters in the text book before the exams, do the extra credit, and you'll get an easy A. Lectures are interesting and she is quit funny too.
She honestly is a good teacher. She does pick on you but if you do not get a question she helps you and encourages you. I had her for the winter session and though she went through 3 chapters a week as long as you read the chapters and know key terms your good. Lectures do not reflect the test.
I have never worked so hard in an introductory course, not have I ever learned so much. I learned how to learn from her. That has changed everything for me. I would take her for every class if possible. The clarity of her presentation holds my attention so well that I forget to take notes. Really captivating approach.
Not an easy A by any means but if you actually learn and read the material you will be fine. Davis- King is a super genuine lady and actually cares about how well her students perform in her classes.
Great for PSYCH1 not for PSYCH2. Fish out of water when it came to the physiological aspects of psychology. Not organized possibly due to using a new textbook but maybe bc she's not that good w behavioral neuroscience. She's nice. Must do 4 papers do get 16 extra credit pts. Tests were a nightmare based solely on book yet not direct. Stressful.
Professor Davis-King went out of way to help me pass her course. At the beginning of the semester I got a D on my first exam, however I didn't drop the class. I visited her during office hours twice a week with questions on the reading and she gladly helped me better understand the material. She's a brilliant woman. Take her class, you wont regret
She's a great professor. Overall for the course, do well on the tests and you will pass since they are not hard. You must keep a journal with notes on each chapter covered. There are group projects as well as no final. There are two extra credit opportunities: a couple of research papers on topics or join the sustainable workshop. Good luck!
Couldn't add psych 5? Idk. Anyways this was for Psychology of Communication Dr King was always on time, super stylish and eager to listen. Study your eyeballs out and don't give too many excuses. She's tough, but understanding. START EARLY on the project.
Truly a caring professor. Gives great feedback. She is excellent at what she does.
What a force of nature! I learned an incredible amount in her class which I took over a year ago. I still think about what I learned in her class and she inspired me to work as hard as I can to do my very best. She is a tough grader. The first assignment I spent 6+ hours on and recieved a C-, and I am usually a strait As. I worked hard to get an A.
AMAZING teacher. I had no interest in psychology when I joined, and by the end, I found myself enjoying studying for the final because of all of the material I had learned. She will make you work for it, but she is passionate about the subject and teaches a truly rewarding class.
As a freshman in college I didn't know what to expect taking her course but after completing and finishing with an A I know that I learned a lot about psych and learning. She teaches you how to approach studying and motivates you to strive for only the best. Also she provides so many extra credit opportunities. My favorite professor this semester.
This neuropsychology class is very tough. I had taken it before from another professor at SMC. Dr. Davis-King is like no other professor I've ever had. She has this way of teaching the material and teaching us how to learn the material all at the same time. There is a lot of structure and many class activities that opened my eyes to learning.
She gives a lot of extra credit and is a very caring lady I would 100% recommend her! Easy A if you have the time to study or do extra credit .. you can still do good in the class even if u do bad on exams with all the extra credit !
She is such an amazing professor. Funny, very eloquent, and wise. She is strict, but fair. The tests are not hard if you do your homework and read the textbook. Her class lectures were very interesting and intriguing.
Dr. Davis-King is an amazing teacher with a kind heart. She treats her students with the upmost respect though is not afraid to call some students out. You are technically ONLY graded by tests, homework is considered extra credit. Lots of group projects too. Go to her office hours as well! You won't regret taking her :D
She goes in depth and has very good lectures. But, she does not cover everything in the chapter that she tells us to go over for the next exam. Relies on the student to read the textbook and she puts students in groups to discuss about a specific topic they were assigned to in the chapter. She is nice and cares for every student to pass with an A.
Loved her! so funny and full of personality. I honestly miss her and only took her for GenEd but she gave me so many good tools to use for other classes. Make vocab charts and take good notes to stay on track and talk to your peers as this is a very collaborative course. Don't be shy! she'll get you out of your comfort zone in a good way.
Dr. Davis King has a great charm about her! She's super charismatic, and I loved how her class focused on developing a method for student success (as well as psych). Her tests are a bit tricky, but if you know the content, you'll be fine! Go to her office hours and do all the extra credit homework!
Great Professor
I took her class during Winter session and she was so so wonderful! There is very little homework in this class so your grade is based primarily on exams. She is extremely clear about what is going to be on the tests and requires every student to make a study guide (which is extremely helpful). She is caring, charismatic, and makes learning fun!
Attempted to take this class, but dropped with a W. Throughout her lectures she loved the thrill of picking on students that were clueless of answers, not giving eye contact, or sitting in back. She felt the need to call on them and would wait till they some how came up with an answer, which can get extremely embarrassing. I do not recommend.
Presentations are almost weekly, she acquires a lot of her students.. you are graded unfairly in my opinion because group projects shouldnt be mandatory and presentations were overdone and graded heavily. The professor doesnt lecture much, she relies on students preparing for presentations so yeah her class was bad. Exams were hard(not like book)
dr. Davis-king assigns lots of work (easy but time consuming) and is lecture heavy but is also very engaging with the students. so sweet and does not mess around when it comes to the facts. if you get the chance to take her class you will not regret it!! 10/10 love her
really nice professor! i took her psych 1 class and decided to major in psychology. she was available for office hours, and we did do a bit of reading but her tests were medium-level. she assigned a psychology glossary to us towards the end and we had some group projects but they weren't too bad.
Only one issue I had, she's not clear with the instructions for homework. She's a hard grader, you probably won't get full credit on those assignments. Besides that, I found her to be nice and inspiring. She wants her class to do well and learn the material. But you can't be lazy if you want an A. Saying "I don't know" isn't an answer.
Shes very specific about the way she wants things done. easy class but the tests are difficult. Do everything the way she wants it done or you will need to redo it until its right.
Professor Davis-King's class was difficult at times but she offers so much extra credit that it can completely transform your grade. You need to study and she will call on you, but she genuinely tries to help everyone understand the material and participating helps. Overall amazing professor!
The professor talks so much I have trouble keeping up with what she says, she strays off topic too much pronounced herself as a neuroscience teacher at UCLA very hard grader, you dont learn unless you teach the content to yourself mindtap was a better teacher she just assigns work and expects you to know it all.
I respect the fact that she wants students to learn the information. However the bonus points are extremely difficult to get full credit. You need to read the textbook in order to do well in the class, she waste no time . There was not enough flexibility given to students even in a crisis. Not a terrible professor, you just need to prepare.
Professor Davis-King is a sweetheart. She is so kind and caring. Her class is very well put together. She understands the way people learn better than any of the my other professors. She won't make you cram for exams; every chapter gets its own quiz. Homework is extra credit. I learned so much in this class and you will too!
Dr. Davis-King is a fantastic professor! She teaches her students how to learn material more easily. She is invested in helping her students grasp the material. She gives quizzes for each chapter with some homework and group projects. She also offers options for extra credit. I cannot wait to take more classes with her!
She's a sweet lady, I'll give her that. But her teaching ethic is the worst. Her lectures don't have anything to do with tests, her instructions on assignments and hw are SUPER vague (gives attitude if it's not to her standards), a huge perfectionist, and loves to interrupt and take over group presentations. This class is all over the place.
I took this class asynchronously over the summer. Dr. Davis-King had multiple extra credit opportunities and a quiz for every chapter. Her lectures were super engaging and she was often accessible during office hours. She took some time to respond to emails, but the directions for assignments were always clear. I really enjoyed her class!
Her extra credit really isnt extra credit
Not great. WOULDNT recommended. Takes forever to look emails.
Professor Davis King is a kind person at heart. Lecture is indeed heavy however she takes the majority of it from the textbook. Her class requirements and course calendar of assignments are unique but nothing you can't do if you genuinely put some effort in. All she wants to see is that you understand the material. I'm enjoying the class.
Therere enough extra credit opportunities, u dont have to worry about get a unsatisfied grade. Not too much homework and no essay. She is a patient, nice professor, helps me learn a lot. Love her.
Just skip. You won't learn much. Her lectures sometimes have nothing to do with her quizzes.
Awful. Be aware that taking this class just for GE while majoring in Art/Design will eat all of your time & may downgrade your GPA cuz Donna is a harsh grader. Choose another prof or class. Her heavy lectures have nothing to do with quizzes. Some weird extra credit assignment like Poogl. I feel like I will need a psychologist myself after her class
do NOT take this Professor unless it is your ONLY option. She does NOT respond to emails, does NOT give clear information on how much work to do, does NOT grade fair, and overall EXPECTS way too much out of her students. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
she's a harsh grader but the work load is very little.
She takes forever to grade assignments but is straightforward when it comes to her lectures and assignments. Although the class isn't necessarily easy, you don't necessarily need to devote countless hours a week. I spent roughly 3 to 5 hours per week. All the assignments, including the quizzes, are based on the textbook, so keep that in mind.
Read the textbook!! I didn't watch some of the lectures but still passed because I studied the chapters for each quiz. She also takes a long time to grade assignments and can be tough on the scores.
Dr Davis-King is a fairly easy professor, I never went to lectures, only reading the textbook, and still got an A. Homework and quizzes are few and far between, however, grading criteria is never clear and made it hard to complete assignments. With her more is always better, so when in doubt just write more.
Get ready to not be able to finish the homework! She gaves so much homework that no one is able to do. She is also a really tough grader and doen't give accept late homework either and her extra credit is even harder than the regular homeworks, she didn't even answer most of my emails.
Do NOT take her class at any cost. There is just waaaay too much home eork, assignments and papers. Also every week you have to read 45 pages. The text book is not very easy, and she is not much of a help. She post the grades about a month after you submit your work. You have to spend ALOT of time reading and reviwing. A bad experience.
I regret taking this class, but I waited too long and it was the only one available online. This professor does not communicate, you are basically doing the entire class alone, except she doesn't make it any easier. I feel that I am wasting this semester on this teacher. If you can, just avoid this course. Save yourself the stress and sanity.
She has more homework than all of your other classes, is impossible to get a hold of outside class, doesn't grade things until a month or so later, shows up to class 10-20 mins late each class, and extra credit don't fall for it. Though I got an A+ I spent easily 10-20 hours a week doing her homework and projects on top of other classes...
Look, I am a single parent with 3 kids and not a lot of support. I took 3 classes this semester and managed to get a high B in this class. READ your book, TAKE REALLY GOOD NOTES, & you will do well. The book was not my favorite, but if you put some effort in the class you will pass easily with a decent grade. There were 2 extra credit options.
Took online. Lectures dense and boring, lots of homework. Basically weekly quizzes, no big tests. Lots of textbook reading. Nice professor but not very personal with students at all which can make for a boring environment.
Aside from really interesting and energetic lectures, she takes the time to send feedback on every assignment. She says what is excellent, how to make improvements, gives encouraging comments. It must take so much time for her to do this for every student, so we have to wait a little longer to receive homework back.
The first assignment taught me so much about what she expects. The first big assignment was hard for me, but I saw how much better I was doing on the quizzes and how much more I understood the work.. She is a real teacher. The work took time, but it made me smarter. I finished the class feeling so good about myself. She showed me how to get A grades
She is very strict and will make you email your homework to her which makes no sense and can get confusing when you see your assignment on Canvas. Not communicative at all. Lots of homework. Good luck.
Before joining, be passionate about psychology! She breaks down the bridge between example and lesson without making things incredibly obvious in her lectures - Essentially she will make you think. She is going to be hard to get into contact with outside of her office hours so be ready to utilize that time in the case of any academic emergency.
It took like 3 months to get her to respond to my assignment 😂
Professor Davis-King was very caring, provided very good feedback, and understanding. Though it's a big difficult to get in contact with her, so attend office hours. There's weekly quizzes, lots of assignments (but pretty manageable), and this course is textbook heavy. Assignments are provided with exact instructions just make sure it's thorough!
She's very strict and get ready to read the textbook and do assignments on TCAP, along with other assignments need to be EMAILED to her. Very hard to contact. This was my intro to pysch and the first class I ever took. I was more stressed to keep up with the class to even learn much.
She uses the textbook for everything. No exams, but quizzes every week- they are easy though. You're basically doing this alone and it moves fast so be aware. All her assignments (there's a lot) are basically essay long. I didn't put much effort but still ended up with a 96%. She's not a tough grader just make sure to write a lot- she loves that
She went off topic a lot. Her lectures were super boring and she would always never give a "clear" yes or no answer. She talked very ambiguously and made odd comparisons/examples that had nothing to do with the content. Homework was very laborious and long and you can only submit via email and not through Canvas. Would avoid taking her class...
Difficult to contact, felt quite unsupported in this class. Zero tolerance policy for late work which is unfortunate and doesn't seen to be very understanding. Homework was stressful. Steer clear tbh....
Despite the class being an easy A if you read and study whats assigned she is not so easy at all. Doesnt understand that life happens so dont miss anything!
This class is super short (6 weeks goes quick) and there's only so many assignments. Read the textbook and try not to procrastinate, make sure you do the assignments because she doesn't accept late work. Do the extra credit, just jot down notes/vocab if you must. She grades harshly but overall a very easy class. She provides a free textbook link.
