HARD CLASS.SHE MAKES IT EVEN HARDER WITH HER TEST QUESTIONS. SHE WILL GIVE YOU A WHOLE LOT OF STUDY GUIDE AND THOSE QUESTIONS ARE NOT A BIT FAMILIAR W/ THE TESTS. IF YOUR INTENTION IS TO FAIL THE CLASS, THEN TAKE HER.
This was a required class and I had no idea what to expect. It began as very difficult and became more manageable as the semester progressed. Study to succeed! She will not feed you the test answers like she spoons you the material. Close your mouth and open your ears and then ask loads of questions. She makes herself available and aids you.
She is very helpful outside of class and willing to aid anyone who needs it. Lectures and labs are well organized and she's consistent about what will be on exams and practicals. This Professor is from Cosumnes River College. In Sacramento, CA.this rating of her is also from that school.
Her first test was hard, but each test gets easier. She offers a lot of extra credit that is built into the grading scale. She wants you to learn it. Stick it out... It's worth it and if you show up and do your work you will get a good grade. Take notes on what she talks about and not what is on the powerpoint-what she says is on the test.
I'm taking this class with singer and donna. Donna is the lesser of 2 evils and that's not saying much. Tests are too hard and not explained enough. Don't take this class. REALLY. I think SHE wrote her other reviews. Nice try donna!
Ms. DiPaolo is awesome. I took her class when she was teaching with Mr. Singer and she was definitely the best out of the two. She is so understanding and helpful. Her tests are hard, but she is always willing to help her students. I took Bio lab with her too and it was a plus because I got to know her better. Overall , she's great at what she does
Absolutly the BEST Biology professor I could've taken. She goes out of her way to help students, weekends and ofc hrs + reviews on her own time. If she doesn't talk about it than it is NOT on her tests. Print out the lecture outline from webCT and take notes off of that. Read the chaps according to the lecture outline from webCT.You'll love her!!!
Donna is the best - these classes are always hard, but people like Donna make all the difference in he world. Extremely intelligent, talented and dedicated to helping her students succeed, I wish all my teachers were as good as her.
She knows her stuff, but I heard a lot about how she and book disagreed on things. This made reading a little difficult.
She IS tough-no doubt about it. She is helpful and wants her students to succeed. Here's what you do; stay in the game even though you're frustrated. ( and you will get frustrated). Her test questions are, well frustrating. Don't give up, have good attendance, don't disempower her as a teacher, have faith that you will get a good grade. She offe
Take chem before taking this class.Print her WebCTslides before class.Speed read the book pre lecture.Try to answer the study asign before asking her; She is good at answering during her office hours, or during reviews. She tests mostly on concepts.Know the lab pre lab. There are H.W.s,& Xtra-credit test questions. She wants everyone to learn & cares!
This material is not easy, but Dr. Dipaolo teaches it well. Each of her exams are mostly multiple choice, (~20% essay). She tests on her lectures and lab; in addition, if you disagree with her answer (and can prove your answer with a literature citation) you get the points. The Silverthorn text was good, but had a few errors. Good luck!
Great professor because she gives you every opportunity to ask quesitons, earn extra points. very approachable and shows a genuine interest in teaching. Her lectures notes/audio are available online, so take advantage of them and read chapters ahead of time, then you should be fine. provides study exam guides throughout the semester, so you kno
Donna knows her subject well, but be prepared for HARD test questions that force you to CRITICALLY THINK as you'll here her say. She always has several 'right' answers in her preparation quizzes so you feel lost and nervous come test time. But if you ASK questions during lecture and do your reading b4 coming to class, you'll be fine.
A very nice person and easy to listen to. I enjoyed the class.
Donna is awesome! She loves the material and therefore keeps lectures interesting. This class is not a piece of cake, but if you read and answer her study questions (which are not regurgitation of facts but rather application questions) you'll do great. Definitely recommended!
I herd all around campus that Diapaolo was a difficult teacher. I would have to say that she lives up to her reputation. She does not offer Make up exams quizzes or any kind of make up. NO EXCEPTIONS...No extra credit and everyone in the class seems to be frustrated by her. She knows her information but does not teach it well. TAKE SOME ONE ELSE!!!
I would have to agree with the last response. Most of the statements’ on here do not seem to be Dipaolo's style. I have never had a professor treat their students with such disregard. Save yourself some stress and search for another instructor; even if you have to go to another college.
This is a VERY hard class. Dipaolo is passionate about Bio and makes lecture interesting, but her tests are soooo tricky. I always walked away sweating bullets and feeling like I was just never going to make it in this subject. I think if I had taken it with ANY other teacher, life would have been much sweeter.
Aweful teacher. way too hard. her class test avereage was 74 and she said she had to make her tests harder. i think she wants most of the students to fail. take someone else or you will be sorry.
I think Dr. D definately knows her material and presents it well, but she makes her tests very tricky and seems annoyed when students ask her questions. I would recommend another teacher
Dr. Dipaolo is very helpful. Material is hard, but she does the best to explain it. Powerpoint lectures, and multiple choice tests. Challenging material, but getting an A is possible with hard work. Do the study guides!
Excellent professor. It is not an easy class and requires effort, but she is helpful and clear of her expectations. Listening to review sessions online is KEY to getting an A!!
Physiology: Despite her reputation for being hard and even tricky, i found her to be a great professor and extremely helpful. She would answer all my questions (in emails) within 24 hours. Her test questions are not tricky if you just read through them carefully and make sure you fully understand what is being asked.
Current Professor. Hard exams and lot of work/ study time required but, she really teaches in a way that forces you to understand concepts rather than just memorizing and going through the motions.Important for moving on. Tough for such a tiny little thing but I learned more than I have in any other bio/phys/anat class.
She is very helpful and enthusiastic about getting you to learn the material. Her office hours are so useful to ask her questions. She's great and will simplify subjects so you can learn the concepts. She makes a really difficult subject understandable. Honestly, I wish other teachers were like her! Try her, she's great!
I would not take this class if I were you. I think she tries to be a good professor, but she's just not. She doesn't know how to teach this material. The tests are really tricky as if she's out to get you. I would study so hard and it was very disappointing. She treats you like you're stupid. Very uncomfortable class environment and teaching style.
I liked Prof. Dipaolo. Sure, her class is hard but she explains concepts really well. Just study her slides and what she goes over in lecture and you are golden. Labs are fun, although can be tedious at times. Take her!
She is a sweet lady and is there if you need extra help but she tends to skip around a little in lecture which makes note taking hard. Constantly trying to improve from critism in the surveys we take though. Not very flexible with grades but does give some freebie points with easy assignments. Fair teacher but not an easy A.
She was very into science. did a good job. like people i think didnt like teh class cause they didnt want to work hard but im trying to get into med school so i thought it was great class for actually learning. if you want an easy A this is not it
Dr. D. explains things very clearly. Focus on taking good notes in lecture. On exams, read questions carefully--some require reasoning from the facts. Class is hard but I learned a lot and highly recommend her.
I really liked Dr. Dipaolo, she is one of the best teachers I have ever had.She knows the subject very well.I agree her tests are not very easy, but they are hard within reason.Read the book.If you are complaining then you have not seen a bad and unclear "teacher" yet...
She was the worst teacher I have ever had. She is very smart and knows the subject well but her tests are ridiculous! I went to every office hour & test review session & spent 30+ hours a week studying and I just got by. Her exams are very hard and she tries to trick you with her questions. She should not be allowed to be a teacher. She is evil!
The class is not that bad at all. You just have to put a lot of hours for this class. If you want to have a good grade. I recommend her if you want to learn. If your looking for an easy grade she might not be the one for you.
She likes to act tough but is not a mean person, tests are challenging but if you prepare for them you will do fine. I would not recomend skipping lectures, sometimes she adds more info or doesn't cover the whole chapter, which is good (less material to remember). Her powerpoints are life savers.
she has a good personality and its hard not to like her. but she functions on a totally different level--there is absolutely no structure or correlation between her lectures, the textbook, and the study questions(repetitive, lots of typos)WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO MAKE A HARD SUBJECT EVEN HARDER??!! her methods are anti-teaching. I LEARNED NOTHING!!
Dr. Dipaolo class is a difficult class because of the wording of her test. Knowing the material isn't enough to passing her class.
Ridiculously hard tests. In summer it's hard enough to retain the info in such a short period then to have trick questions on top of it! Take good notes in lecture. Do the study Q's, practice exams and review labs. Review notes everyday! I got 89% in the class and I'm still irritated by the experience! It's a good thing she's likeable!
If you don't learn in her class then you need a remedial class in how to learn. This class isn't for babies. She is extremely organized and gives more useful resources than any prof I have ever had. You always know where you stand and this helps you strategize to succeed. Attend all classes, never miss a lab, study in a group, ace the first exam.
Advice: Read the book, record lectures-helps to hear some of the concepts more than once, never miss class or lab, sit in front, copy everything she writes on the board even if you don't understand it, read your book before class but if you don't it is never too late, stay after lab and listen, ace first exam because it's easy and you'll need point
If you work as hard as she does, you will get an A+! She is organized, on time, and gives instant feedback for your benefit. Work hard; it's worth it!
No one has thought physiology better than her. She makes it very easy to understand and lectures are worth goin to because all 90% of the test questions are from her lecture. the book is just literally, supplemental. I urge you to take her class.
Dr. Dipaolo was a great teacher. Her lecture pace was sometimes too fast but she would go over concepts several times so the material eventually clicked. It's a difficult class but easy enough to get an A. Never miss lecture and you're guaranteed at least a B.
She is an awesome lecturer!! If you attend class regulary, it is easy to get an A.I never read textbook. I just faithfully attend her lecture, and I went over notes, pre-test, and powerpoint before the test.I got high A! she is always responsible! I really loved her class! She explains everything so clearly!I strongly recommend her!!
Very nicek prof but very difficult class. Tests are VERY tricky. Carefuly read the questions to even know what she's asking for. Recording lectures helped a lot. She goes over the same points several times so you can pick out what's important. Book has more info than you need. Tests are based on lecture only. Don't skip class & take good notes.
Dr. D is a very nice lady and I thing she tries hard to make it easy but... this is not an easy subject. She knows her stuff. Her tests are tricky; know the concept don't try to memorize info. Going to lectures and labs is a must! The book was not helpful. She gives you way more information than necessary. If your a science nerd you'll love her.
Horrible professor. Have no passion in her teaching. You could feel in by sitting in her classroom. She preaches and preaches, but won?t take or will make fuzz over some question that we ask. Couple incident happened and totally change the learning experience. Don't take her class. Trust me.
She is as bad as having those teachers from HS that would just read to you the whole entire class time, every lecture. Please don?t take her class. You won?t learn a thing and she?ll just make your live hell for that semester. Much worth it to wait and take the class with a different professor.
Her test is very tricky. Her expectation is so unrealistic. And her grading is stupid: 5 tests @ 100 each, while other point that you could earn to make up is max @ 5 points, and not that many. The worse teacher I ever have. She shouldn?t be teaching.
Horrendous professor. Never been graded so unfairly or had such a difficult time understanding a teacher's lectures/test questions. Waste of time.
Donna is a nice person, but a teacher she is not. If she spent half of the time teaching instead of trying to trick you she would be a great teacher. Tests are only about 75% of what is tought in class. She is a horrible teacher. If you take her I hope you are very adept at teaching your self.
Read other comments. She is looking for the chink in your 100% understanding of Physio. The wording on tests is designed to confuse; learn quickly how to decipher test questions or you're destined for a C or worse. She's better at lecturing at you than to you. Makes easy things difficult and vice versa. Nice person--I feel bad writing this.
The worst teacher, speeds through lecture, does not like questions, and lecture is all over the place. Her test are designed to trick and distract students. She is not a helpful or even polite to students. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!!!!!
PROS: Class size dwindles after first test, Evening classes/labs are available, many online resourses, Practice exams slides and notes are available.CONS: All material writen by dipaola has several Grammatical mistakes, revisions MAY be published via blackboard website, new material and revisions can be published AS LATE AS two days prior to exam.
This class is a challenge and be ready to study your butt off. Read all chapters, record lectures, attend all classes, and DEFINITELY join a study group. Her tests are tricky, so take your time with them. I got an A and guarantee I know the material better than the easier classes offered. If you are lazy then this class is not for you.
Very hard class, but professor Dipaolo organized material so that getting a good grade was doable if you study very hard the material she presents in class. Physio is demanding/hard and I think that's why there is so much whining on this site about this professor, and she has high expectations from students. Her class website is excellent.
Donna was always available to answer questions in her office hours. She was very helpful in this regard. I have read many of the critiques here and I just want to suggest: take lots of notes, record her lectures and listen to them often, re do your notes and study. Don't miss any quizzes and see her in her office prior to exams. I got an A.
BAD TEACHER!!! She does not let u ask questions during her lecture and when people raise their hand when they dont understand something she will take several minutes of class time telling how she will not answer your question till the end of class. Cant spell or pronounce words. She seems a bit angry all the time. Good at returning emails though
Worst teacher i have EVER had! No not take this class. Everyone hates her, she hates everyone. Wont let students ask questions. Hard to follow because she is too busy getting side tracked. I have never seen such an awful teacher. Shes also stuck in the 80's - nice turtleneck sweater!
Ridiculous professor! Has anger issues and takes it out on students. Yells when students ask questions. Take another teacher, someone who actually wants their students to succeed. Not 1 student got an A in the class. Worst teacher at City!!!!!
She loves to hear herself talk. It wouldn't bother me if she actually talked about the stuff you need to know. very bad teacher, doesn't let you ask questions, it is like she wants you to fail. My advise would be to take someone who knows how to teach..
Terrible professor. I'm doing fine in the class but that's because I teach myself. Her lectures are disorganized and test questions are oddly worded so you need to re-read them at least 5 times. You are not allowed to ask any questions during exams and it's her way or no way. Majority of the class end up dropping her class. Avoid her if you can.
Thank God she had a mental breakdown mid way through the semester and we got a better teacher. Diapolo is disgrace to biology. She is outraged by students who ask questions. DO NOT EVER TAKE HER CLASS!
She's a good person but she has no business being in the classroom. She's way too strict and takes it way too personal. She's passionate about Biology and she expects everyone who takes her class to be like her, avoid taking her classes if you value your GPA. She's very unfair and poor at teaching.
I think Prof DiPaolo is a good instructor for this subject. She really knows the subject. Her exams are very challenging. They really test your understanding of the material. She can be mean when students ask questions sometimes. She also goes on and on about a particular subject sometimes. Overall, I think she's great. Just pay attention in class!
She's tangential, stubborn, pretentious, and a terrible instructor. Poor class & topic organization which made the material even more confusing. She's unapproachable & seems like she teaches this class just to hear herself talk. She gave a student an F in the class for coming to the final late although that policy was never stated in the syllabus.
She is a HORRIBLE teacher, worst i have taken in my college experience. Her expectations of her students are to high. She tricks you on the test, and allows no cheat sheets to help on the large amount of material she has you study for. Her study guides are useless, i learned everything on it and still got a failing grade on the test. NEVER TAKE.
This class requires extraordinary effort in studying due to the lack of enthusiasm on the professors part. I highly suggest a recorder to take notes from because taking notes in class is impossible. Got away with a B in the class with an A effort.
This us a teacher who is not clear, talks very fast as if, and has a problem with students asking questions. I think she doesn't know more then the basic Physio and acts accordingly. I would fire her. I know she is not up to date because I asked her a question about cancer cell formation and inflammation and she was way off.Plus she isnt nice.
This teacher is really hard. She asks you questions about concepts that are taught in nursing school. She will make you know every detail. Definitely makes you responsible for knowing too much.
DO NOT TAKE DIPAOLO!!! All the other reviews are true. Worst teacher I have ever had. Wish I would have read her reviews before I took her last semester. She needs to be FIRED and never allowed around people again!
Do not take her! She should not teach anymore. She has no interest in helping students. Her labs are a joke!
SHE IS THE WORST! She comes off as being really attentive and nice but shes not. Her lectures are so unclear and she's all over the place. Her grading system actually hurts students bc to get an A, you can't make ANY mistakes. RIDICUCLOUS! And on top of that she is heavily dependent on the book. DO NOT TAKE HER!
HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY! OUT OF 50 STUDENTS, 20 WILL END UP IN THE CLASS AT THE END, BUT MOST WILL STRUGGLE TO JUST GET A C. DONT BELIEVE ME THEN GO AHEAD AND TRY HER. GOOD LUCK!
AVOID HER! HORRIBLE INSTRUCTOR! YOU'LL HURT YOUR GPA.
Pros-Very knowledgable and organized especially class website. Very accessible office hours. I would not have gotten A without spending many hours in her office. Cons-she is a hard teacher, a bit uptight and strict especially during lectures.
Her tests are tricky but spending time on the book and her notes will help alot. Don't be scared of her. I read her reviews before I took her class and I was scared also but you know what she is not that bad. Believe me!!! You just need to put an effort in her class. It's a bio class, noting will be easy without studying.
Avoid her taking her if you can. She is diorganized and you'll be wasting your time trying to follow her along. On the other hand if you are an over achiever and you want a challenge then by all means take her Bio 235 class. She is not accomodating and won't let you attend an earlier lab section for professional school interviews (MD,PhamD,etc)
For a community college she is tough. She gets you in gear to transfer to a higher level institution. Do not expect to slack on work or miss class. You have to show up and put effort in to get a B in the class. Good luck with an A.
She is a HORRIBLE Professor. I wish I had checked this site before I enrolled her class. Her tests are very tricky and she purposefully confuses you to picking the wrong answer. She is not approachable and if you ask questions in class, she gets very defensive. AVOID TAKING THIS CLASS WITH HER!
Dr. DiPaolo seems like a good person and very knowledgeable but she cannot teach. She is all over the map in lecture AND in lab. Another con is that the test is NOT reflective of the material covered. Study guides and pratice tests serve no purpose.
Dr. D is tough. The subject matter is tough. The only way to do well in the course is to study a couple hours after each lecture. Her notes can be extremely cluttered. She's usually happy to stay and explain confusing material to confused students.
I took Human Physiology with Dr. D. Fall 2012 and do not think she was too difficult. Show up to class and pay attention to do good on tests since her exams are right from the notes. I didn't even read the text book and passed with an A. Dr. D. was somewhat of a scatter-brain, but overall a passionate, intelligent teacher.
