She was BY FAR the most difficult teacher I've had in my college days at LU. I don't know if it was her, or just the class itself. She definitely didn't make the class easy or interesting
i hated this class....read 50 pages and 10 t/f questions for quizzes!! YUCK!!!
You will work in this class. You have quizzes almost everyday and plenty of other assignments. You'll probably get bored if you don't already have some interest in history. But if you work, it's very easy to pass.
She really made history suck in my opinion. She taught and gave assignments in the class as if we were all history majors in History 301 or something. It was not fun and not exciting and it required lots of reading a work. I would not take her if I were you...
Sometimes the class was interesting, but she was very difficult. I don't think she explained what she wanted from us clearly which was reflected in the grades. I feel like it was an upper level class even though it was a basic course. My upper level classes are easier! You better love history...
Brilliant woman, EXTREMELY demanding. Hardest class I've taken at LU by far. But I learned A LOT. You will DEFINITELY work in this class. If I have to take another history class, it will be with her.
A lot of reading required, study for the test a lot because they are very hard. Her style is kinda boring and rigid. She rarely opens with prayer
Very difficult, alot of reading. Tests are generally 30 MP, two 60 word def. of a term, and an essay. In nature, simple, but very complex and demanding. Her passion for History is unmatched by any other person I've seen.
I hated this class. Her attendence policy is completely ridiculous. I got into her class right before drop/add and she counted those days against me. Also you only get 4 misses before it reduces your grade and 8 before you fail. Well i used my 4 i thought i had and she failed me. DO NOT TAKE. She is really uptight too.
I hated this woman. I had her for an 8am class and she made my whole day horrible. She wasn't clear on anything and was extremely hard to follow at times. Her attendance policy is a mess and she offers absolutely no way to earn extra credit other than perfect attendance or her 'personal discretion'. She couldn't even remember my name. Never take!!
For anyone who is scared to take her because she is "too hard" i would recomend you see for yourselves. She is only as hard as you make it for yourself. If you're more concerned with flirting with the opposite sex and staying up late, you will have problems, but if you came to college to learn, you will see what a treat this professor is to take.
Personally she seems like a very nice person. But in the classroom she is an "evil" dictator!! I will never take her again & i advise others against taking her. She needs to chill about her "freshman/soph" level class. It was harder than it needed to be. (especially since most people in that class are NOT history majors nor WANT to be)
She is amazing. Donna was the only female history prof when I went to LU and she held it up with the men. She is no Shultz, but she is still rad.

She gave a lot of work, but I learned more in her class than I've learned in any of my other classes.
Her tests are killer. She is pretty interesting, but I would just go with an easier teacher.
Her class was hard. She runs it like an upper level class even though it is a basic course. She did have a lot of interesting things to say. She knows her subject well. I learned a lot, but I wouldn't take her again. The tests are extremely hard.
She is the most horrible prof ever. She looks and acts like the principal from School of Rock, but that's actually kinda funny!
DON'T TAKE HER CLASS!!!!
Look, anybody who says Donna Donald is "hard" for a 200 level course hasn't taken upper level courses. If you want an easy class, fine, don't take her. If you want to learn, you will walk out of that class knowing so much more than when you walked in. The best part about Donald is that she loves to teach, which induces students to love to learn.
wow. this was a great class. i learned so much. if you want to take this class to slack don't. because it's not easy, esp. for an entry level class. but if you really want to learn and understand western civ, then this is the class for you!
Excellent Professor, knows what she's doing!
This class was a rude welcome to college. It is the hardest class I have ever taken. I tried as hard as I could but I ended up dropping out on the last day to drop so I wouldn't end up with a D. You have a good 30 pages of reading for each class and the test s are hard but you will learn a lot...
I loved this class. She is a great teacher and knows her material!! Her tests are not that hard if you study and read the blackbord readings and come to class. Take good notes or else you won't do that well on the tests. Wonderful class!! I learned so much!!
I hate this class. I am used to doig a lot of work, but she is ridiculous. She seems nice as a person and yes, she does know her stuff but she is incredibly boring and gives way too much reading/assignments for just a 201 class. I could see if this was your major, she would be awesome... however for those of us trying to fill a requirement...boo.
Professor Donald's class isnt easy but she is willing to help you if you go to her during office hours. She has quizes at the beginning of each class hour. The quizes are a mixture of what you read and online mock tests from the textbook company ( see back of book for URL).Tests are hard so allow plenty of time to study.
You need to study a lot, but you learn a lot as well. Daily quizzes get annoying, but she tries really hard to help people understand history with stuff to refer to outside of class. Uses blackboard a lot.
She is an excelent teacher who truly has a passion for the subject she teaches. She is somewhat difficult, but very worth the work put in. But she has an open door policy and is one of the most helpful teachers I have ever had. The students who complain about her difficulty probobly don't belong in college anyway because her class was not that hard
This class is insanely hard. So much information is shoved down your throat that you can't learn anything no matter how many hours you put in outside of class. She is somewhat helpful about meeting with you if you need help but even that won't do much for you. I urge you not to take this class.
Several things. For anyone who thinks this was run like an upper-level course, you've probably never taken an upper-level history. We didn't have to read four books, write two or more papers, and have all-essay tests. She's tough, yes, but this is college. Grow up. Anyway, she's a great professor, and you'll really learn a lot in her class.
One of the hardest classes I have ever taken, but the teacher is knowledgeable, helpful, and interesting. She uses a wise variety of teaching methods and evaluation tools. I would not recommend HIEU 366 if you are not willing to devote a large amount of your time to the class. Yet, it was one of the most interesting class I have taken. Your choice.
Horrible teaching style
you have to know what she is thinking to have a good grade. Its very hard and frustrating and I would not recommend this class
She is really nice and expects you to do your work. Unless you are prepared to work, do not take this class. If you do a sport then DO NOT take this class. There is a bunch of reading and the course goes over allot of material really fast
I took this class web. It will ruin 3/4 of your semester. You cover through the Reformation and the 2 tests are brutal. You have an hour to answer 3 dissertation level questions and she'll dock huge points for missing the smallest thing. Also, if you come up with something creative you'll get docked for using outside sources.
Though I have very good grades for much higher level classes and have no trouble understanding what is expected, I found the grading here ambiguous. Also, when the technology failed creating an glitch during a test I had little help from the professor.
i think she doesn't clearfy herself and she grades entirly to hard how about just giving a student one warning before you give them a zero rember thats why we are cattending classes to learn not to be discourged
I must confess that she is probably the smartest lady I have ever met,but it seems like she expects you to be the smartest student she has ever met.We take 3 quizzes a week and only meet 1 time. She is enthusiastic but be ready to work hard. Sometimes I feel like it's overbearing but with all the quizzes it does help your average.Smart, funny & nice.
Class is extremely fun...but can be boring at times...hard if you do not keep up with the material...Donna Donald is extremely hot...
she was not a good proffesor
she's a killer! My nickname for her is Demon Donald! Her tests were ridiculous and so were her quizzes! e prepared to give a ton of effort in this class and make sure you read the book and materials.
This was one of the first classes that I had at Liberty. I found it very simple. I had the hybrid class and you should know that there are online lectures and quizzes for each class. If you put in the effort and actually study and listen to your lectures than you will do fine. Prof. Donald is willing to work with and that is a desirable quality.
I took the WEB class. If you are taking the web class because it's easier, think twice. Every week there are plenty of readings, quizzes, and lectures. HOWEVER, if you do the work you will do fine. I really did enjoy taking the class web, because I liked the condensed online lectures as opposed to sitting bored in class for 3 hours a week. :)
Prof. Donald is definitely challenging, but a great teacher. If you enjoy history at all, you will enjoy her class. She has a way of making the less talked about aspects of the past really become vivid. I would highly recommend Donna Donald for anybody who wants to get their money's worth in academic knowledge here. Oh, and I thought she was quite
This is one of the first classes I took when I came to Liberty and I absolutely loved it. Prof. Donald is an excellent professor who cares a lot about her students. You'll learn a lot about the subject and come away with a new appreciation for it. Ther is a lot of reading, but this is college and NOT high school anymore so there should be.
I hated this class! It was almost impossible to pass. Very hard to get a good grade. If you can avoid her, do! You have to read the book religiously, there are a million quizzes, and her tests are hard.
Fantastic course, fantastic teacher. She is very knowledgeable about her subject and very enthusiastic. Her choice of texts and personal experience researching French Huguenot women greatly added to the class. This class requires work, but is very satisfying!
LOVE this Professor! Such an intelligent woman. DO NOT listen to all of these people who are saying that Professor Donald is an impossibly hard teacher and that her class is impossible to pass. She requires a lot of you, but this is college so get used to it. Definitely take her if you have the chance. She is one of my favorites!
The class is only moderately hard, but the professor is so abrasive during class that each day is a pain to get through. And, oh yeah, we have name tags. She makes me feel like I'm back in 3rd grade again. The tests are half essays, but a study guide is provided that gives all the writing sections that will be on the test.
She is a hard professor. She has quizs every single day. she doesn't post quiz grades with in a timely manner. If you like history, you will love this class. It's almost like an upper level class.
She is the hardest teacher..Don't take her!! I had to withdraw from the class!
In regards to the comment below...this is the same person. I am not a sensitive individual and can take constructive criticism well. but donna donald is straight out rude. She is a horrible teacher but knows SO much about history. She did not take EDU classes so doesnt know how to teach well. I am passing her class and i enjoy the material not her!
I agree i effing hate this class. she doesn't seem to care although she tries to play it off as if she does.
Professor Donald is a teacher that I would recommend not taking. She treats the students like high schoolers.
Prof. Donald is a great lady, but her class is very difficult. I would not take her if I were you! I'm looking at withdrawing from her class right now, because it's so difficult for me. Too much work for only a 200 level class. Have nothing against her personally, but she just expects way too much.
Mrs. Donald is a GREAT teacher. She does expect a great deal, but she prepares students for upper level college courses. If you don't want to work...don't take her...if you want to learn something....she is a must.
She was very rude to me when I met with her to discuss my concern over my grade in the class. We talked for about a half a minute and decided to take a phone call from another student and asked me if we were done. Her tests are hard with essays She does not care for the students. I am a hard working "A/ B" student. I worked my butt off to get a C-
Hey Liberty students, never take this professor. She is so hard. Find other similar professors like Homer Blass; Saxon or some other guys. But, Donna D. Donald is very tough.
Did someone say, 'You're probably the ones texting in class!' (Let me guess you live on the circle, spend 90% of your time in the dorm, and date Jesus?) She's abrasive, rude and does not grade fairly. Several others and I had to schedule meetings to discuss these grades. I can't decide whether I'm in high school, 3rd grade or college in her class.
Passionate about history, not teaching. She'll get angry if you interrupt her class even the tiniest bit(texting, showing up late, sleeping). She knows her history, but does not know how to equally distribute it. We'll spend one week on Roman history (two chapters) and two weeks on the Renaissance (one tiny chapter). Too hard. Boring. don't take.
Prof. Donald is probably my favorite prof at LU. I had her for American History as well as Western Civ. She is difficult, but certainly not impossible. She always answered any questions I had and she genuinly cares about her students. As a history major, I plan to take as many classes with her as possible. If you want your money's worth, take her.
She is hard!!! I am a frechman and I'm struggling with this class. I wouldn't reccommend taking this class, but if your looking for a challenge go for it. She does know her history though.
Donna Donald is "not conducive to a positive class atmosphere." She thinks that her class is the only one that students have. I also really despise how she insists on stopping whatever she is saying to chastise students who are texting, as if everyone is waiting eagerly to stop paying attention to her when they see someone texting.
Welcome to 3rd grade history class! This class is awful. She explains everything in excruciating detail. and by everything I mean the stuff you already know. Such as how to use blackboard and how missing class is bad....we are in college if we couldn't figure that out we shouldn't be here.
Expect to work your tail off. Tests are unfair. Study for HOURS beforehand. Professor is somewhat rude/sarcastic. It's hard to decipher what she wants on assignments.
Professor Donald is one of the rudest teachers I've ever had. I feel like she's been in the teaching field long enough to know how students operate but assumes that students are all trying to coast their way through the class. She's not a very good Christian model in that she's very rude to students who ask simple questions. needs attitude adjustme
Prof Donald is the worse teacher I have ever had in my life. I worked extremely hard on the test, quizzes and assignments and she failed me on everything.Don't take her class she is very unfair with grading and her expectations for students are very unrealistic. I had to withdraw from her class, because I was in danger of failing.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had. She only teaches the stuff that she finds boring. She will start talking about things that she thinks are interesting and then she'll say that she doesn't have time to talk about it. The class you think you are talking is western civilization but it's really just a lame version of church history.
NIGHTMARE! Avoid her like the Black Death, Bubonic Plague, Anthrax, and SWINE flu!! I actually enjoyed history until I took her class! Her instructions are vague and unclear, she is rude and condescending, and she talks about things that aren't pertinent to the subject at hand!
Worst teacher ive ever had!! Avoid her if at all possible!! Her classes are boring, she is extremely rude and her assignment are vague. It is almost impossible to pass her tests. Dont waste your time.
I'm used to hard work, and have never had a problem with hard teachers. Donald is IMPOSSIBLE! Tell me how and in what universe it makes sense for a 4.0 student to struggle with making a B. I read all the assignments and do the work on time. She has favorites, and it reflects in her grading. Do yourself a favor and stay FAR away from her class.
Ok I have been in college for 2 solid years now with a 4.0 GPA. This class was so hard for me and I ended up with a B-. Her tests are insanely hard and she grades the test essays like we are all History grad students. Don't get me wrong she is a very smart person but if your not up for the extreme challenge, than drop her RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
Worst ever. Very Domineering and aggressive. Does know the material, but in an arrogant manner. Conducts class with a very authoritative male persona. Feminist extremist. Several lectures indicate this based on her words and mannerisms. Condescending, rude, very unapproachable. Confusing directions. Will not admit to mistakes.
Very difficult teacher!!! Work your butt off and you'll get a good grade but seriously she's really hard.
Prof Donald is a very good teacher!!! I am so thankful that I learned a ton of history. Even though I didn't get an A I feel so accomplished in her class. If you are one of those students who likes to "skate by" I strongly recommend avoiding the class. This class covered a ton of material in a short period of time.
Absolutely horrible teacher. She's very passionate about history but she's incredibly rude. I expected to work hard in this class, but her expectations are much too high. She grades way too hard. Do not take unless you like to struggle.
I took her honors section. She gives ridiculous amounts of work...is extremely hard...and grades like you are supposed to be an expert in history. I will admit that i learnt more about history than in any class I've ever taken. I don't recommend her unless you like hard work and love history.
Excellent teacher!!! Prof. Donald requires quite a bit of work, but if you pay attention in class, you can learn a lot. A great class if you want to learn, but avoid her if you don't want work. Overall, I thought she is very clear and that she has a passion for history.
She ca be a really Rude teacher or a really mean one... I now know why they call her Donna Death. She has great passion for history which I did admire about her, but she made people write 4 essay's per test and graded them harshly for lack of content. There are also many times where she treats her students like little children. Dont take her!
Very difficult teacher. Lots of quizzes, and test are plentiful and early. Wouldn't recommend her unless you really need her class. I find myself always reading up for her class only, all the time.
Ok, basically she married History. Also, if you don't get it she calls you out in class! horrible teacher. Very intimidating for some or she'll just frustrate you to no other by her stuck up attitude! She knows her stuff but treats you like your five. Don't take.
She knows her stuff, but her class is a LOT of work. You will always be reading her textbooks. Her tests are easy, but her quizzes are hard. Not to mention she treats her students like they are 5 years old.
Very difficult teacher. doesn't go through all the material and expects you to know all about her subject. quizzes are impossible to pass. watch out for the analytical essay. very difficult and vague.
She has a huge passion for history, and you can see it in the way she teaches. I found the class to be very interesting and informing, and normally I can't stand history. There's a quiz almost every class based on the reading that was due & there is a ton of reading. The tests are pretty difficult but not impossible so take good notes & study well.
she has a HUGE passion for history which is EVIDENT and obvious.HOWEVER, she is one of the most proud ppl I have ever seen teach!EXTREMELY hard, and u HAV to read for EVERY class.tests are HARD and the majority of test is short essays. She grades these realLY hard!I am a good student but I had to withdraw from it cuz of grade.avoid if u dnt luv read
She's very intense about the subject and the classroom. She loves teaching and that's very evident, but there's a lot of reading that feels unnecessary. She does use quite a bit of videos and the quizzes aren't too tough either.
Don't do it. You're better off dropping out.
Prof. Donaldson is a wonderful, godly woman with a strong passion for history. However, she is very strict and is a difficult grader. A lot of reading/studying is required to get a good grade. Good class if you are willing to work hard and learn a lot. Don't have a strong passion for history? Go the easy route and take American history.
She is very passionate about history, which is evident in her lectures. But, if you think this is going to be an easy A, just drop it now. You HAVE to read the chapters because you have a quiz every class and she draws a lot of her test from the textbook as well. She does give out extra credit, especially if you have perfect attendance.
Don't take this woman. She treats you like a kindergartener, mandatory name tag and all. You get quizzed on a chapter per class period, and her tests are ridiculous. Avoid her if at all possible.
Donald is one of the worst professors I have ever had. I'm taking her right now and her standards are ridiculously high. She gave me a 0 on my introduction and conclusion because it wasn't creative enough. AVOID TAKING HER CLASS!!! She's a perfectionist and no one's work is good enough for an A, unless its a multiple choice test.
Unrealistic expectations. She is not interested in one's thought or interaction with the content. Seems more preoccupied with personal standards than objective academic standards.
Seems like she is in a contest with herself to pronounce every word as bizarrely as she can. Yells at people for weird reasons. Her teaching assistant is an absolutely wonderful person though. I do not recommend this teacher at all.
Donna Donald is a great professor. You have to read all the material because there will be a quiz every class period, and you have to study hard for her test, and write really well to get a good grade. But if you enjoy the topic(like I did) then you will enjoy this class. I actually kept my textbook because I'm a history major and I found it helpfu
She was honestly the worst professor I have ever had in my entire life. She is a cultural historian who cares nothing about anything important whatsoever. She is rude and assumes that her class is the only thing you have going on in your life. She has no right teaching.
I won't say much because it's not like you can choose not to take her, as she is the only HIEU 201 prof. She is very tough. She is rude and quite proud/unhelpful as a teacher, she may be nice outside of class but not in. Most of the comments on here are accurate that she is just not a good teacher. Take at a different college or online if possible.
Extremely difficult. Spent hours reading for the quizzes (every class) to get low C's on most of them. Almost always quizzed on material she hadn't lectured on yet. Annoying in how she treated students. Tests were easier than the quizzes, and the final paper was a pain, but easy. Tests and paper saved my grade with a B, but still took a lot of work
She is probably the worst History professor at Liberty. She will baby you through the whole class. She grades harder on papers than my English professors, and you will spend forever studying for quizzes, that you will have every class. Do not expect to get higher than a low 'B' in the course, and that is if you work really hard
This class was very difficult. Her tests are very hard and she is very picky. I usually do well in history but her lectures were not helpful for the test. I was very dissatisfied with the class and did not learn very much. I would recommend her as a teacher if and only if your a GENIUS!
The worst part about this class is the attitude of this teacher. She is one of the most condescending people I've met. As far as class content goes, I learned more about European history from watching "the Tudors" than I did from taking this class. Seriously, Liberty? Seriously?
Quite honestly the worst class I have ever taken, having been here for 3 years. She is a rude, high-and-mighty, control freak. She will treat everyone like grade-school level students, and pushes childish group activities in class. She is as unreasonable as Liberty professors get, and her class will ruin History for you. Don't take her.
I went into this class thinking she couldnt be as bad as her reviews paint her, I was wrong. As a history major I was very dissapointed in this class. Do yourself a huge favor and take the class online WITH A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR. Most of the material on her tests comes from online readings and lectures anyways.
This class is ridiculously hard. The amount of reading required is unrealistic. You have a quiz almost every class. Dr, Donald is not a good teacher and is not helpful. She may mean well but I regret taking this class. I do not recommend it!
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT TAKING THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU ARE A STUDENT-ATHLETE. you will thank yourself later. Thanks and God bless.
Prof. Donald is a great teacher! Yes you need to work hard to do well in her class, but its not overwhelming if you stay on top of everything. She's very encouraging and hopeful for all of her students. Just be prepared to talk in class, and she'll love you!
Prof. Donald is an excellent teacher and a really cool person if you give her a chance. I know a lot of people who are turned off by her "stage presence" and personality, but I love her class. I say it was a fairly easy course, but I took it as a Senior...
I truly enjoyed Professor Donald's class. Yes, it was very time consuming, but Professor Donald stressed why the things we were learning were important and how they affected society throughout time.
Professor Donald was super hard. She had a quiz every single class. There is tons of reading and 2 papers. She grades the essays on the test harshly. And she reminded me of my mom! Probably the worst class I've taken
Yes this class is not the easiest, Dr. Donald is a pretty good teacher! She can be kinda rude at times but overall I didn't have a problem with her! She prays for a handful of her students by name each class, which I think is very awesome! Just follow the directions and you'll be fine! VERY SMART WOMAN! Funny at times also!
As a senior honors history major, I can tell you that Donald is the worst professor in the department. Horribly disorganised, not smart, and gives a unrealistic workload for a 200 level class. I did fine because I knew the stuff already, but she is a VERY BAD professor.
terrible. absolutely terrible. thinks her class is the only class in the world. have a quiz every other day on stuff she hasnt even taught you yet. takes off points for SPELLING off by one letter. STAY AWAY
She doesn't clarify, and her tests cover material that she doesn't cover. Her final exam exam is full of stuff never even heard. Her study guides are totally useless.
Professor Donald is one of the worst professors I have ever had. She is very rude to her students and has a very high opinion of herself. I mad an A cause I kept up with the work but she test on material she has never covered and grades her papers harder than any english teacher. She is definitely is a professor you want to avoid at Liberty.
This course was suppose to be all about the Western culture but it was more focus on how you write. And for those like me I had never did any assignment in MLA style. There was not very much help in this class. I think that they need to get rid of the teacher. The school should look at how many students are passing this course.
The content of the class was fine, and she was relatively clear about the assignments. What bothered me most about her class was the attitude. She is extremely condescending to students, and treats you as if you are not college students. Some of the activities she pushes on the students would be more appropriate for middle school than university.
Professor Donald's class required a lot of consistent work, and I can understand how this might be challenging for some people. However, she knows what she is talking about, cares about her students, and if you put in the effort you will learn so much, so she is a great teacher.
She's a contradiction. She treats students like grade-schoolers yet gives graduate level work. She also is harsher with grading papers than ANY english prof. I've had. If you take her in-class expect a name-tag, group activities, difficult quizzes every day on the reading, essay questions that she grades based on what she believes to be true.
She does a good job explaining the information in the lecture, but she frequently would treat students like middle schoolers. Her Syllabus was confusing and her test are multiple choice and essay. she is an extremely hard grader, but for the little things-spelling, format. I highly recommend avoiding her class, but if you can't you will be fine.
Very frustrating class. The frequent review of her treating kids like grade schoolers and then assigning graduate level work is very accurate. She would also consistently act like she cared greatly about the students, yet when I repeatedly emailed her about a mistake in grading with all the evidence she requested, she never responded.
Awful
Terrible
She is an awful teacher. Doesn't lecture. Instead you read all night long and then talk about what you have read the next day in class. No matter what you do, it won't be good enough for her. She is one of those teachers who has to have it done her way, and if it's not done her way, it's wrong
She treated this class like it was a 400 level instead of the gen ed that it actually is.
She was my breakout prof. for BWVW and treated it like a 400 level class. Under any circumstances, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!
She will make you read pages of useless documents and watch video lectures on lessons she already lectured on in class. Everything is over-complicated. She is sarcastic and rude. Your opinions and concerns will be ignored or talked away. Following instructions and examples on essays will not earn you a good grade. I regret taking this class.
Listen Liberty, this professor is rude and needs to be let go, or disciplined at least. She is incredibly unhelpful.
I loved Professor Donald and HIEU 201. I have a history minor and I took this course as a first semester Freshman, and while there is a lot of reading, I enjoyed the in class lectures and the online material we were given. She gives you enough material to study that, if you try, you will succeed. Very helpful and explains things more, if you ask.
Professor Donald is a great professor and she really knows her stuff and has passion for history. I wouldn't call her rude, but she is sarcastic. I'm not offended by her, but I can see how she could be taken the wrong way. She doesn't doesn't mean to be offensive. The class is not as hard as it's made out to be. Read, study, take notes -no problem.
Worst history teacher I've had. Dr. Donald gives study guides and reading assignments that takes days to complete. Then 13 of the test questions are not covered by the study guides. Grades papers like it's a graduate level English class. Get the content correct, but make any mistakes in grammar or citations, and might fail.
Professor Donald likes to assume that everyone taking her course is a History major, when we are just simply trying to take the course as a Gen Ed. Requirement. Her tests are hard, she is a tough grader, and the readings take forever. Not to mention the fact that she doesn't get to all the material in class, so you have to watch videos and lectures
She's very tough; reading assignments and quizzes for every other lecture. She closes the quizzes 15 minutes before class so if you're last minute you're out of luck. She teaches like it's a room of history majors when in reality it's a gen ed course. She loves what she does which is great but this is one of the hardest courses I've taken.
This class was difficult. I've taken Professor Donald 3 times (unfortunately) and every class has been incredibly confusing and difficult. Basically, nothing you do will be good enough. I am a history major, so this material is my passion, and she makes the class absolutely miserable. AVOID this professor at ALL COSTS!
She is a tough grader and expects a lot out of students but if you put in the work you will certainly benefit. One of the only 200 level classes where you truly learn the material. People hate on her for being tough, but these are usually the lazy students who complain. I greatly enjoyed her class, and I learned so much through it!
Worst class I have ever taken. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Online readings are ridiculously lengthy and difficult as are her tests and quizzes. I graduated high school with an above 4.0 GPA and this class and the professor sucked. I am in her class right now and absolutely hate it. Study guides are no help and class is just terrible.
Like Nancy Grace, in a the worst possible way. Will stop a class of 100+ students to personally call out and totally demean the one poor bloke that might have had his eyes closed for more than 1 second. Zero one-on-one help with assignments. Speaks to you like you are a child, but grades you like you have a PhD. Such a rude lady. Boooooooo.
Professor Donald is extremely rude to her students that have any kind of questions. The statement "Ask a professor" is the most common phrase in her vocabulary. She treats you as a child for the first half of the semester and holds your hand, but as soon as fall break hits she expects you to have a doctorate in what she's lecturing. DON'T TAKE THIS
I am a very good student and found this class to be extremely frustrating. Although I did well in the class, I would never recommend it to anyone. She is extremely rude and degrading to her students. She acts as though it is a burden for you to ask her questions. In my opinion, this is not acceptable of a professor especially at Liberty University.
Dr. Donald's material isn't hard, but the number of and length of assignments is far more than it should be for a survey level class. History is my minor so I love the subject, but she treats the class like this is a PhD level class and acts like it is the only class you have. She will help if you ask, but she will have an attitude about it.
Professor Donald's assignments are VERY CHALLENGING, particularly the Mindtap Quizzes. Alright so sometimes once, twice, even three times a week there are assigned quizzes. I only made one 'A' the rest ranged between 'B' to 'F' If you read then take the quiz you'll fail but if you skim you'll do well. Also too the tests are from them. She's bad!
I would NEVER take again. Pop quizzes every day. Insane online hw quizzes every week. Google AND your book DO NOT HELP. ALmost everyone fails those every time. Tests are ridiculous, so many essays. She's very strict. Doesn't laugh much. Has NO problem failing a student. Class started out with about 40 kids and by then end of the semester 18.
This should have been an easy A for a single credit class but Donna made it so much harder and was a hard grader for elementary assignments. She will mark you tardy the very SECOND the clock changes. She seems to find pleasure in tearing her students down. Donna is the only professor at Liberty University that I have had a bad experience with.
As a Professor she doesn't seem that bad, but UNIV 101 was exceptionally boring and I can't imagine a Professor making the class itself worthwhile. She will speak to you one-on-one if she thinks there's something wrong. Her intentions are honest/ genuine enough from what I perceived, and she does care about students overall.
Professor was rude to students. Acted higher than everyone and was not afraid to say it. Beware if you yawn even a little you will be called out in front of class and mocked by professor. Concurring with many other reviews she will treat you like a child and then expect you to give her an essay written by the best. Stay away!
Prof. Donald is an asset to LU. She is extremely organized (coursework and assignment due dates are clear) and her lectures are well-designed to cover the key points and themes of the readings. With an average amount of studying, I ended HIEU 201 and 202 with a 97%. Suggesting that it is a "PhD" level class is completely ridiculous.
worst professor ever! with the homework it was like an online class except she wasted our time in the classroom just reading off her power point without adding details
She gets her facts wrong, tells us we won't have essays in the exams and then we have 2 in each exam, and she acts like her students are children, like we are worthless and can't control our selves or pay attention. respect is a two way street, she doesn't give us any we don't give her any.
She knows her stuff, but she's a very hard grader. Took her last semester for HIEU 201 and her class was exceptionally hard. The tests are crazy for a 200 level class. I worked hard to try and get a B. I was one out of 5 people to get an A on the final. Got a C, because I handed in the last assignment a few hours late and she gave me a 0 AVOID HER!
Tests are confusing and require detailed essays and tricky multiple choice.
Awful. I am a history major and I consider myself a very hard worker but she is rude to students and gives no grace.
I have always loved taking history, until I had Professor Donald. Not only is she somewhat disrespectful, but she takes too much of the class period searching for student participation that she never really gets around to actually teaching a full lesson. I have learned more by reading the book on my own. I often leave her lectures disappointed.
I've never been one to hate my classes, but I genuinely hated this class. Donald has an attitude toward every student. She spends the entire class period begging students to teach for her, and then gets frustrated when anyone says something wrong. Impossible to get an A on a test.
Treats students poorly. Gives middle school type homework assignments but grades them as harshly as possible. Her Notes lack depth needed to get a decent grade on her tests.
Terrible. Seems alright for the first few weeks, bit beware. Gives ridiculous amounts of homework for a survey course. Rude. She has no tolerance for latenesses. Also if you turn in homework or assignments a second late: automatic zero. One second can literally drop you a full letter grade. Offers no extra credit. Avoid her at all costs.
This professor does not set up her class in a way that stimulates learning. Not only is she very passive-aggressive with her students, creating an uncomfortable learning environment, but she cares more about deadlines than about what you learn. Homework easy but due every other day, no grace periods, little chance for comeback if tough schedule.
I couldn't stand how much homework there was and how disrespectful she was. she made me feel stupid every time i didn't know an answer.
I honestly don't know why she has such a low score. She was super nice, and taught the material well. People complaining about the assignment policy probably waited until the last minute to do it. The work is not hard if done in considerable time, and plenty of time is given to do the assignments.
She treats the students like children, and is extremely demeaning and rude when they ask any questions. She gives last-minutes assignments, and does not care if you have prior commitments. She doesn't teach well, is incapable of following her own syllabus, and expects an inordinate amount of participation from students who honestly don't care.
Her classes are just her lecturing on information that might be on the exams, and the quizzes are the hardest quizzes. Try to avoid taking her class if possible. She calls people out in class. She is rude and never answers your questions fully.
There is more to her than these other reviewers are telling you. With this professor, you get what you put in. She has given me an understanding of western civilization and its history (HEIU 201), and knows the subject matter. She is somewhat strict on grading and workload, but this has helped me learn. Also, VERY accessible outside class.
While you cannot deny that Professor Donald is organized, and has mastery of the material. She is rude, inconsiderate, and dismissive, to put it simply. She is cannot seem to level with college level students and instead feels like we need to be treated like small children, by the time she actually stops demeaning students, class is over.
Professor Donald is a very sweet woman who cares about her students a lot. However, she does require you to put in a good deal of effort for a good grade. There was usually a long chapter of reading for homework each class as well as an online quiz to go with it. I didn't mind her lectures personally. There were many interesting class discussions.
Condescending, passive aggressive, treats students like children. She would be a great middle school teacher!
The teacher is a little distracted
Nobody denies that Dr Donald is organized,well-informed, and a polite person. However she certainly should not be teaching college students. The only knowledge you will gain from this class is from the book not lectures. She is paranoid of rule breakers and treats her students like small children. This is an easy class she makes 10x more difficult
Professor Donald was undoubtedly the worst, rudest, & most inconsiderate professor/teacher I have ever had in all of my years throughout school & college. She grades extremely hard. I had her for UNIV and she treated it like an English/writing class. She gave terrible feedback on essays, etc. & she was a difficult person to try to reason with.
Avoid if at all possible!! Tends to be very rude and passive aggressive. Says she's there to help, yet will mock students/roll her eyes when they ask a question. Once, students' answers from essay questions were put on the screen and made fun of. The tests are almost impossible (nearly identical answer choices) and she is a VERY tough grader.
I loved how passionate she was about history, it made me want to learn. She's a pretty tough grader so get her feedback on how you can improve if you aren't doing well on tests. She doesn't tolerate talking or zoning out on devices so try to pay attention. She turns the lights low so I had trouble staying awake. I still recommend her though.
In terms of assignments, she could be a very tough grader. Her feedback did not help, and when I tried to apply it, it did not help the grade. She was very general in her teaching and did not go in depth. Also, she was very passive-aggressive. But a positive about the teacher is that she would call out specific students by name during prayertime
Prof Donald was a horrible professor. Her test were extremely hard for a mandatory 200 level class. After the first exam, I went to her office to talk about it. She told me the reason I did poorly was bc I did not take good enough notes and because i didn't study hard enough. I even quit social media the week before to study and still did horribly.
I am a junior at LU. I took her 201 class first semester Freshman year. Avoid her classes like the plague. I've taken 300 level business classes that weren't nearly as hard as this class is. This was probably the worst class I've ever taken. She knows her stuff, but she isn't LU professor material. She should be let go IMO.
I just finished HIEU 202 online with Donald and I wanted to drop the class. It was horrible. I would spend hours on her assignments and still get C and Ds on her assignments. The work load was insane. I will never take her again in my life. Made me disappointed as a history major.
The word I'd use to describe her would probably be censored on this site, so I'll just say this instead: she is a mean woman. Avoid her at all costs. I don't think she sees her students as fellow human beings, but rather as inferior beings that she can toy with. If you must take her, get ready to spend all your free time in the assigned readings.
The amount of work given is not proportionate for a 200 level course. Be prepared to spend hours investing in her courses and for your grades to not reflect any prep at all. She gives feedback for assignments where she requests more than what was originally assigned. Discussion Boards really end up with 4 responses. Prior to her class, I had a 4.0!
Beware. Seems normal, homework load seems reasonable 2-3 weeks in it hits The tests are directly related to the lectures and barely has anything to do with the homework The homework quizzes are poorly written and even with the book open you'll get answers wrong Tedious projects that are graded too hard for no reason Asking for help gets you no help
She is quite possibly the rudest and most difficult to please teacher I have ever had. She begs for her class to participate and gets frustrated when someone bold enough to participate gives the wrong answer. I was warned prior to the class and paid no attention. Take this online. This is way to much work for a 200 level class and a rude teacher.
The tests are ridiculous! Probably the hardest tests I have ever taken. Unless you memorize answers to all the essay questions you won't get higher than a B. Her expectations for her students are WAY too high. Avoid her and thank me later.
The class alone should not be hard. However, the instructions for homework make you read one thing, and then ask questions that are completely unrelated to the readings. Her notes are unclear, and when you ask her questions she is very passive aggressive towards you. She claims to care but she doesn't really. Just Don't!
She's no joke tough. You better get ready to do some work. But her teaching style really does help you learn the material and not just memorize. She actually wants you to grasp the big picture rather than memorize a ton of dates and names. If you come to learn and ready to work, you will get a LOT out of this course. A ton of bang for your buck.
Professor Donald might be a tough teacher but you definitely learn a lot from her. She is extremely passionate about History and very knowledgeable. I had her my Freshman year and yes it was a lot of work but in the end it was very rewarding.
Professor Donald is a professor I would highly recommend. At times, her assignments are tough, but nothing that a college student can't handle. She is always willing to help her students and gives great advice. She is very passionate about history and it is because of her that my love for the topic grew! Take her class, you won't regret it!
She gives too much reading and work for a 200 level class. At the same time she treats her students like middle schoolers and tends to be passive aggressive. Nice person, not a good professor.
The rudest and most passive aggressive professor Ive ever had. One of those southern people that have the bless your heart attitude. I wouldnt trust her with it depend on her for my future at all. She was a waste of my time and money. Save your future, take another professor.
While professor Donald is an interactive professor and will help when asked, she is a very tough grader. My biggest problem with her grading is even when you read her feedback and do what she suggested, she doesn't acknowledge your improvements and grades as if they weren't there.
On writing assignments: she has this idea in her head but doesn't convey it well in the instructions. Therefore, grading seems arbitrary. Speed-reads through her lectures; 'nuff said. Too much repetitive work; you hear the same thing 3 or 4 different ways. Beware if you're a working adult or have a full class load. Killed my love of history. Sad!
Do your best to find another prof.
I took this course as a Gen Ed requirement, but ended up having to spend far more time on this class than my major-specific classes. Professor Donald assigns an unreasonable amount of reading and homework for a 200 level class. Feedback on test essays was minimal, and she treated her students like children. Would not recommend
Dr. Donald is a good professor, she is just not good for lower level classes. She dislikes having any students in her class who do not care about history or do not want to pay attention. If you want to survive her, come to class, take good notes, because every answer is in the lecture, and the reading helps you understand the lecture.
Dr. Donald was great! Yeah she makes you work for your grade its good to have to earn what you get. Homework can be completed without reading every page of the reading. Her lectures were well organized and interesting. If you actually put forth effort and work you will succeed.
During the first class of the semester, I thought to myself, "wow, I think this might be a great class." BOY was I wrong. If you take her, be prepared to be treated like a child, responded to in a SUPER passive-aggressive tone, and to be told one thing but expected to do another. I felt very disrespected; I wasted so much time taking this class.
The first day of her class I thought that it was going to be an amazing class and grow my love in history; I was so wrong. She speaks in a passive-aggresive tone, Shes says to write little but ends up taking a bunch of points off just because it wasn't enough writting. She treats her students like children and gets really mad when they don't talk.
Professor Donald is passive-aggressive, rude, biased towards students, and not helpful whatsoever. Considering this was a 100 level course that is a graduation requirement, it was ridiculous. She grades short answer questions like they are for a 400 level English course. You can follow directions to a T and still get points deducted for no reason.
Professor Donald does have a genuine love for history and public history specifically. She structures the class to avoid tests and lengthy papers. That said, the work for HIST305 is VERY front loaded and can be overwhelming. She also likes to assign blog posts which can be tedious and meticulously graded. Take her, but be ready for some work.
Professor Donald is a very sweet woman who enjoys what she does. However she gives vague instructions on the homework assignments and grades you on criteria she never asked for in the first place. Reading the textbook is essential and it is really all you need to pass the class but she demands attendance. Save yourself a headache or two.
Prof. Donald is a good person, but an okay teacher at best. Assignment due dates change, and that does become confusing. The grading criteria seems to change from assignment to assignment. The courses are rather disorganized and it makes it difficult to prepare in any way.
Professor Donald is a very nice lady who enjoys what she does. However, her expectations are vague and shes a though grader. When she is asked about an assignment she refers back to the vague instructions and rubric. Save yourself a headache.
She answers questions and does well with explaining things. Her grading is tough, but it is fair. It is clearly marked in the rubric. I would love to take her again.
Absolutely horrible
Professor Donald's class was rewarding, but be prepared to be graded on criteria never mentioned in the instructions or contrary to them.
Avoid this class if you can - it's a tough slog. I found unstuck ai and the textbook to be the only way to survive the heavy workload.
Instructions and expectations are not clear. She does not like to give full credit on assignments and will find things that you shouldn't lose points for. You mostly learn from the limited reading you do. The projects feel like free labor for the history department. She micromanages your work. The best option is to check everything with her first.
DO NOT TAKE CLASSES WITH HER. If you don't do it the way she likes you get no credit. She doesn't tell you what she wants and the whole class is just her going on about needing more funding while shes making you do projects for her other jobs in New London and at the Chaplains museum. The assignments make no sense and the grading is nonsensical.
Her grading makes zero sense, and your best chance is to aim to be forgettable but stay on her good side. She is typically lenient about some deadlines, but the public history projects at Liberty are a mess. Asking her for help was useless, and she stole a friend's work without crediting them. Don't skip class if you can, it's impossible to make up
