Truly one of the worst professors I have ever had. Doesn't bother to show up and introduce herself in any way. Her lectures are slides directly (word for word) from the textbook (which by the way she gets from the textbook company) and she reads right off them. Don't bother watching them. Waste of time. More concerned with herself than students.
I received maybe two emails from her at the beginning of the semester. After that, it was only lectures of her which were the slides taken directly from the textbook. Everything was handled by her Teays and TIs. The courseload makes it impossible to actually learn anything due to the number of assignments each week.
One of the worst classes I've ever taken. I learnt close to nothing. The lectures were useless and all of it was self learning. I understood that I had to study for anatomy myself because it is a class that requires such attention however having the class structured so terribly with a professor that didn't really teach didn't help at all.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! DO NOT!!!
I know that online classes have thrown everything into turmoil and this professor is relatively new to it, I still think it's inexcusable to structure the class in such a format. This class is a LOT of work, it's not difficult, but it takes up huge amounts of time. Time management is a must in this class, you might need to make some sacrifices.
She is not lenient at all when it comes to homework. Be prepared to teach yourself this course she doesnt teach.
simply put, fekete makes NO effort to help or even teach her students. i dont even know what this woman looks like. sometimes i forget this course even has a professor teaching it because shes that bad. lectures are worthless but hey, at least some of the exam questions are prewritten questions coming directly from the quizzes
I wish I could rate her a 0. She gives way too much homework and quizzes a week. Shes uncaring and a horrible person.
This class has a lot of busy work, but not much more than I was expecting. I was told that BIOL 203 was a lot of memorization and studying, and that's what it is. With COVID, the lectures are online so we don't really interact with Dr. Fekete, which sucks. People are complaining a lot on here about having to do work, but it's a college level class.
Terrible just terrible
This teacher does not seem to care too much about her students or teaching the class in general. The lectures consist of her reading off the lecture slides and nothing else. The readings are very long and so you need to put in extra time to read (for the reading as hw and to take notes). Labs are fine, I just don't get much out of them.
When many people were asking questions regarding material on an upcoming midterm, she had to look up every answer on Google. She told a girl that she wasn't putting enough effort into the class when the girl was doing everything in her power to learn the material.
I expected more. As a science major, this class is crucial for me comprehend. Like most online classes though, I'm just completing assignments on time and not retaining any info. The professor is rude and does not show empathy toward students, given the circumstances. I feel like I am completely on my own and teaching myself.
I never knew just how awful and stupid someone could make you feel, until I took one of her tests.
The lectures are pointless, she reads right from the slides and the powerpoint, homework and exam test bank is provided by the textbook company. For the amount of effort I put into this class I want her to create unique material. You will be teaching yourself. No care or empathy for her students, told someone i know to drop the course 1 week in.
Poor with student communication
Donna does not care about teaching her students AT ALL. Worst professor I have ever had. I failed the midterm and when I had a meeting with her on what I missed all she said was if I had read and used common sense I would've known the answer. IF YOU GET THIS PROFESSOR RUN.
LOTS of work.
The worst teacher I have ever had. She doesnt care about her students. We are teaching ourselves. The amount of work is ridiculous and those points are not enough for the time put in. I studied for two weeks straight. I cant pass this class without failing the other classes I am in.
Everyone is complaining way too much. This class is supposed to require a lot of reading and memorization, its anatomy. Everyone is used to either high school or BIOL 110 (great class, Humphrey is an awesome guy), but this is supposed to be a step up and not be a cakewalk. You need to put in effort to succeed and Dr. Fekete clearly lays this out.
This class makes me have mental breakdowns. She does not care about her students in any way. She refuses to curve the class even when the average on tests is in the D range. I'm very disappointed that Purdue brought a professor like this in and I expected better teaching from a Harvard grad. Be prepared to have all of your hard work not pay off.
I'm not one to generally complain about a professor, but Dr. Fekete is just a bad professor. I am used to difficult course work and content wise have taken tougher courses. However, the exams in this class are written by the textbook company, which means professor Fekete's help is worthless as she does not truely know the content. Do not take!
Dr. Fekete is definitely not a great professor, but this is also her first year (and it's online) so I'll cut her some slack. For lectures she only reads from the slides so I've stopped watching them. She is also a terrible communicator and does not like when students ask her questions. Most of her exam questions come from module quizzes.
Donna Fekete is not an effective professor. The average grades on midterms and lab practicals were between 65-75%. I understand this is a college anatomy class and it has been known to be difficult in the past, but in discussing contents with past students, this course is supposed to be passable, and studying pays off. With her? Impossible
Understanding that anatomy is heavy on memorization and application of knowledge, Dr. Fekete has done everything in her power to prevent her students from succeeding. Not only are her lectures useless, as she reads off the slides, she doesnt even want students to ask her questions. Shes lazy and unhelpful, so be prepared to teach yourself.
Listen, I was prepared to take Anatomy and Physiology. I knew it would be memorization, hard work, late nights and lots of dedication. This class however? Absolutely insane. In fairness, my lab and lecture were online and my tests were in person - worst of both worlds. However, the prof is unclear and inconsiderate. Good luck Charlie.
She doesn't care about her students at all and if you email her questions she gets mad. She once sent an email to all her students saying "don't email me I'm busy. If you have questions ask the TA". This is really unprofessional in my opinion. Her "lectures" are reading off powerpoints. Lots of tough reading, must teach yourself the entire class.
I understand that this class is to be a step up from BIO 110 but I have taken other bio classes that are a step up such as BIO 221 which is very difficult. The key difference is that it really feels like the staff for this class including Dr. Fekete do not care about you as a student... Fekete is very cold and her lectures are simply reading slides
I was prepared for a hard college anat course but this class is ridiculous. Don't try to email her, she'll say she's busy and doesn't have time to answer emails. Lectures are read straight off slides, no work is done by her. Be prepared to teach yourself everything. Courseload is a lot and I find myself rushing to submit rather than retaining info.
BIOL 203 is a hard course. Hard courses need a good professor that can effectivley teach and guide their students into success. But this professor and her staff do not care about the students. Very rude in their emails and very demanding towards the students.
If you're taking Bio 203 with Donna Fekete, then I sincerely apologize. She has a horribly pretentious attitude about her and will not curve. Her entire teaching style is a mess. She gives insane amounts (hours) of homework and her classes put unbelievable amounts of pressure on students. Lots of memorization. Overall, 10/10 would not recommend.
Donna Fekete is the first and only professor I've had that DOESN'T want her students to ask questions. My lab TA's would openly talk about how they wanted to quit because of how horribly organized the course was this year. For such a hard class, the professor should be able to step up and teach, and Donna Fekete is not that professor.
Donna is a brilliant scholar and is very respected in her field. However, she does not quite meet this criteria as an instructor. Emailing her directly often resulted in receiving a rude response. A&P is my favorite subject but was disappointed in that exams were un-original and were all connect questions. This course is entirely self-taught.
In short, if you take Bio203/204 with Dr. Fekete, you're on your own. She is an awful lecturer and most of your (extremely time-consuming) homework requires you to teach yourself. The test content was not predictable and I walked away from all 3 tests feeling like I had been blindsided. She does not seem to care about students or their outcomes.
This class is entirely self taught. I gave up on the lectures a long time ago because it was just her reading off of the slides and not actually teaching. Very rude in emails and just overall not great. I'm sure she's brilliant, but Harvard definitely didn't teach her how to teach people.
She's very intelligent, and I know she knows what she's talking about. But just because you're smart, doesn't mean you can be a good teacher. She isn't absolutely uncaring, but she's not very empathetic either. Also if you miss going up a letter grade by one (1) point, don't expect her to round you up. Wish I could've rated her as 2.5 stars.
Prof. Fekete lacks any level of empathy for students and can be quite condescending. The exam structure in this class is awful - some get lucky and others are screwed over as everyone gets different questions. I've taken anatomy before any enjoyed it, but this class left nothing but a sour taste in my mouth, and I have yet to take 204.
To whom this may concern, Every bad review is true. Shes by far the most heartless and inconsiderate professor Ive ever had. However, you can get an A and you can pass. Shes lazy and her lectures are lackluster. The exam is your quiz questions, make a quizlet of your/your peers quizzes. Take the class with friends, my girls were Everything.
I think that she is an okay professor. During a pandemic its obviously harder to give good lectures online. She seems to care about making the class better for students. Shes not the greatest, but shes not as bad as everyone makes her out to be. Lots of assignments to create a padding for bad exams which is helpful. Exams werent terrible.
McGraw Hill taught me more than she did. She was not very caring during the pandemic. There was no flexibility what so ever. The lectures were a waste of time because she read of the slides word for word and the slides said exactly what the book did because McGraw Hill made them. The class was very disorganized and the communication was not good.
People complain about this course but honestly I think that complaints are mostly voiced by freshman nursing majors who have no idea how to approach a college-level course. All answers to the tests are in the book and there are many other ways to earn points including extra credit. I barely studied and succeeded, just needs a little effort.
I took Bio 203 in fall 2020 and it was rough. That being said Dr. Fekete has listened to feedback/changed some things which have improved the class which I appreciate. She is also more patient and helpful now. As a student, I know that I sometimes forget that professors are people too and this class isn't supposed to be easy, its a weed-out class.
I think it's rude to invalidate that a lot of people struggled with taking BIO203. It is a 4 credit course and it's not a walk in the park, but there is such a huge difference in a class like this when a professor genuinely cares for her students. And by what she showed last semester, Donna just doesn't care. I hope 204 is better this semester.
doesn't care about her students at all. lectures are just her reading off of slides that she didn't make. was very rude in emails. did not accommodate for a student who had COVID when it came to giving extra time for a quiz. overall just very mean
Does not show she cares what so ever
Last semester I had emailed her and I got a RUDE response back. She shows no empathy towards her students. I understand that this class is supposed to be difficult but to correctly make a class difficult you have to TEACH the difficult material which Donna does not do. If you have to take anatomy I suggest taking it elsewhere and transferring.
People saying that she has tried to change the class since BIOL203 are right. But, it's not beneficial. Labs have been moved completely online, but you still have to go to in person labs, and she took away the lab manual so you really don't know what you're learning about. As a student it feels like she cares more about what makes HER life easiest.
Dr. Fekete is really uncaring about students. She is very knowledgeable on what she teaches but just uses the books PowerPoints and Homework. Every lecture is trying to cram 40-50 slides in and there is no clear learning objectives for the exams. This class, overall, is not designed for student success whatsoever.
She is absolutely terrible. She can't teach, she's super vague, never helpful, and boring as a rock.
words cant describe how awful this class & professor is No effort is given she stopped doing her own lecture videos which was the bare minimum she was doing Be ready to teach yourself the course Also youll do the same on the exam whether you study 0 or 30 hours because it is impossible either way Last test avg was below 56% and this one was lower
She shows obvious neglect for the students. Donna expects students to be experts in every aspect while not putting in effort herself. Might as well take this class online because the online homework is more helpful than anything she has done.
Donna doesn't care about her students or her class at all. She acts like she does so much work for this class when all she does in lecture is read slides word for word that were provided for her by McGraw Hill, yet she makes her own questions for the test that aren't always from material from the lectures. Don't take this class if you don't have to
Dr. Fekete is one of the worst professors I have ever interacted with. Does not care her students at all. Get ready to teach yourself the material, because her lectures are not useful at all. She reads word for word off of slides. Preparing for exams is close to impossible. Her study guides are useless. If I could give her a rating of 0, I would.
Literally the worst class ever. She is beyond rude, degrading, condescending, any adjective to describe horrible. And she sucks at teaching, her lectures are 50 minutes of stuttering over slides she didn't make and content she doesn't know. She is only here for research and couldn't care less about trying to teach. Dont take if possible, good luck!
Donna Fekete is a completely useless and frankly horrible professor. Having had her for 2 semesters now, I am convinced that you could replace her with a fly and it would have the same competency. Exams are ridiculous. She talks down to her class, refuses to check emails, doesn't make her own powerpoints, and gives 0 effort. Just a waste of tuition
Exams are heavily based on lectures and the textbook so stay on top of readings and lectures. Dr. Fekete was new to teaching 203/204 when I took them so it was hard to gage how to study at first. After having her for two semesters the advice above worked well but be ready to put in the work. She is a great person and is very intelligent.
THE TEXTBOOK IS YOUR BEST FRIEND!!!! Don't waste your time watching the lectures- Donna doesn't know anything. Lectures are provided by the textbook company and doesn't have everything you need. If you stay up on textbook readings, you'll do fine in the class. Just don't expect Donna to be of any help, she is the most disrespectful professor here
Fekete just reads off the lecture slides, so her lectures are basically useless. The textbook is definitely your best friend for this class. Very doable, but you have to study a ton on your own because the professor is like little to no help and just makes you feel stupid.
I have never encountered a more disrespectful and lazy professor in all my 3 years at Purdue. The lectures, which were 40+ slides each, were useless and Donna added no meaningful or helpful material while teaching. A class average of 55% on an exam was blamed on us students when she was the one who wrote the exam. Do not take this course with Donna
First semester I had her i emailed her and she rudely replied to me that I had sent my email to the wrong person. Too lazy to answer my question even though she was the professor of the class. Labs were online, but still had to show up in class for some reason. Lectures were pointless. It didn't matter how much you studied, there was no winning.
Dr. Fekete does not give enough time to fully learn the material before going on because of the sheer amount of content in these classes. The tests are extremely hard and you never really know what is going to be on them. Her lectures are her just reading off the slides. Do not take with her if you can avoid it.
Being a freshman, I was expecting this class to be difficult. I spend countless hours studying and getting help, but it never seems to pay off during the exams. Being new to college I know I don't have the best ways of studying, but this class is very difficult. You don't really know what will be on the test at all.
This will be 100% honest. Fekete's A&P is a challenging course, no doubt, it's a weed out class. Developing good study habits is key to getting a decent grade, and this is where students struggle. Yes, there's lots of info. but staying on top of the readings and lectures will help a lot. MAKE FLASHCARDS and practice regularly with them!
Frankly she is just rude when addressing students. Doesn't seem to care about student success at all and should just retire if she hates teaching. Terribly crammed lecture slides with no intention to slightly adapt to fight her lectures within a 50 minute period. Course itself is difficult, but doable just didn't have a pleasant experience with her
I was required to take this class, and I love this topic. It was anatomy and physiology which going into nursing, is very important. I started off rough, but i worked very hard. I had a meeting with the prof. and she said i was doing everything right, but my grades werent showing it. She didnt care, and she told me tat i was doing a good job.
Bad prof, bad class. Lots of information. Not lenient at all
I'd say she is the worse professor I've had but I also took a class with Rucha Karve so I think they're competing to be the worst professor at Purdue. Very condescending in every announcement after exams blaming the students for the poor average, not taking responsibility for being a terrible professor.
Impossible. Insane amount of work. Exams do not reflect what you have learned anyway. She is very rude and uncaring. This class is human anatomy, we are not in medical school. The average for an exam was 65% and they said it was all the student's fault, not their's.
I'm a premed senior in Donna's anatomy class, and yes it is hard. But it is not the hardest class I have taken at Purdue. There is a lot of content needing covered in a full anatomy course, so be prepared to study a ton. Donna has changed the grading a lot from last year with more easy participation points. So to all the premeds/nursing, suck it up
Donna definitely can come off harsh, especially if you are taking her class as a freshman. But if you put in a fair amount of effort this class is no problem, and you learn a lot!
I took this class as a freshmen. The material itself is not horribly difficult as its pure memorization, but the sheer sum of material per exam is ridiculous. Its a weed out be prepared to work hard and for that hard work to not pay off. Exams ask the most random and obscure questions instead of broad and conceptual questions.
While I will end up passing this class with an A, I can say that Fekete is one of the worst professors I have ever had. Her lecturing is about as bland as it can get, as she basically reads off of her notes every lecture. Everything I learned in this class I learned from reading the book for hours on end, often at the expense of other grades.
Fekete is hands down one of the worst professors I have had at Purdue. The course is structured terribly and she blames students for low exam scores, despite the fact that this has happened since she started teaching the class. When problems arise, she takes no leadership and has other people respond to emails you send to her. Uncaring and rude.
Dr. Fekete is the worst professor I have had and the only professor I have felt strongly enough to rate here. She was more focused on being respected as a Doctor than teaching students the material. She uses lecture slides straight from McGraw Hill and seems unprepared in lectures. She just reads from her notes. Her communication is condescending.
Worst class I have ever taken. You really have to work for your grade and teach yourself because the lectures do not help.
This class is hard, but all the low reviews are from whiny Freshmen. There are way worse professors than Donna Fekete at Purdue. At least she is very clear on due dates, class expectations, and grading criteria. This may be a weed out class, but it is not hard to get an A or B if you show up, do the homework, and study the night before an exam.
Donna has no idea what is going on. Her exams were too broad to really dig in and study. Be ready to do hours of reading and lecture watching along with reviewing. Very interesting class though.
She cares more about her PhD being from Harvard than she does about being a good professor. Be prepared for about 10-15 hours a week of reading and notes. Don't attend class, it's not worth it (she doesn't help/teach well). I stopped going after Lecture 2. Real trial by fire on study skills and teaching yourself so there's your bright side.
The class itself is do-able. I did not mind the class at all. What I did mind was the professors. Professor Fekete is very full of herself. Shes intelligent Im sure, but her boasting about that gets in the way of her actually using her knowledge to teach students and connect. Zero empathy, extremely rude. Will be very glad when I finish A&P.
Dr. Donna Fekete is a great professor especially if you go to her office hours every so often. She helps you plan a study schedule for the class that will help you succeed when it comes to exams and labs. Dr. Fekete is very caring and is definitely one of my favorite professors I have had over the past few years.
This is a weed-out class. Those who are saying she is not that bad are lying to you. She is the only A&P head coordinator at Purdue, so there is no getting out of having her as a professor. You can study for an exam for hours and only know a handful of questions during the exam. Get ready, because this class is HARD!
Ruined anatomy for me. Very clear she thinks very highly of herself and this is a weed out class. Very disappointed Purdue has not fixed the issue. Anatomy should be the basic love of every student in health and human sciences. Instead, this class does the opposite and you do not learn anything.
This professor while she knew what she was teaching did not exactly explain it the clearest. Her exams were horrific however. Most of the material taught was not on the exams and there were just lots of assignments.
She doesn't seem very involved in the course even though its her course... maybe because she's retiring this year. Regardless, the best way to sum up this class is expect to work hard but have none of it pay off. It's doable to pass, but be prepared to cry
Worst professor I have ever had. Told me that using my DRC accommodations was "special treatment". She cannot deliver a clear message to save her life. She should have stuck to research.
Professor Fekete was very accommodating and refuses to help students that require special accommodations. When over 75% of the class gets a D or lower, she refuses to give a curve and blames students for not studying enough when she's really just a bad teacher. One of the worst professors I've ever had.
Donna was an overall great professor who had super clear lecture formats and very clear expectations for exams. She provided study guides that literally say what would be on the exams and her lectures were always great. Just read the study guide and pay attention to the lectures.
Taking this class as a freshman would kinda suck, but if you have any bio or chem experience beforehand it's a pretty easy class. Donna's lectures are informative and the expectations are super clear.
BIO 204 is doable but has a hefty workload. The homework, labs, and quizzes are not too demanding, but preparing for the exams is a different story. Make flashcards and review them every day. Dr. Fekete maintained clear grading criteria and good organization with the course.
I honestly like Dr. Fekete as a person. Hard exterior, but nice when you get to know her. Bad teacher though. Lectures are useless, read the book and take notes instead. I got an A in the class by never attending lecture. The book, smartbooks, and an anatomy coloring book will be your best friends in this class.
She was absolutely horrible. I suggest taking this class as a second-term freshman or sophomore. Lots of homework barely provides explanations for test materials. Her "study guides" hardly cover anything on the exams. DO NOT HAVE HER AS A TEACHER. My sole reason for being incredibly depressed and was going to drop out after my first semester
