Very interesting class, but you MUST do the readings if you want a good grade
picks favorites; very unfair grading system; based upon your agremnt w/ her idea
She expects a lot of work from you, but you'll grow a lot from her class.
good sense of humor in lectures but gives hard tests
great lecturer, very real and clear!
Sweet prof, difficult exams
Very difficult , but fair
Good lecturer. Tests not bad if you read!!
Good Prof. Tests are so-so just study!
Very interesting. I never wanted to miss a class. Tests are easy.
Nice prof. Organized lectures, tests questions clear&easy if you read a bit.
Weird grading system, was very unhelpful and even a little rude, favored few
An interesting and well organized professor. Tests are fair but study hard!
She is the best professor i've had. interesting class but must read and study.
One of the best at GVSU. Test are fair and easy if you study.
Take her
Not as hard as she is made out to be, very interesting. Study notes get a B
Hard prof but very nice
lectures are long, she doesn't cover much material, 2-1/2 hr class
Study for tests, otherwise the class is easy. No homework, just exams.

Nice lady, sometimes funny, very knowledgeable, class can get dull, but take her.
Lectures are boring, tests are so-so study and you'll do fine
Good teacher-willing to help after hours
take time to do the study guide. the tests are the study guides. she's neat.
Very hard class, tests are extremely specific, read your text
Class is very boring most of the time. Tests are very text specific. READ READ READ! DO NOT FALL BEHIND! LOOK OUT FOR ESSAYS. WILLING TO HELP BUT IT DIDNT DO ME ANY GOOD
Class is easy, but somehow she makes it difficult. I think she's a good prof overall.
she is very clear, no study guide but notes are all you need, fun lecture
take good notes, reading would help, tests pretty difficult, good overall though
She is a very nice lady and Social Psychology rules! Take good notes and study well because tests are somewhat difficult. She does drop the lowest score though.
She is interesting, but tests are pretty rough. She tests over readings not covered in class, so make sure to read.
very organized lecture, scan over text and study notes you are fine on tests. lectures get a little boring, but pretty good class overall.

Very hard professor! She uses examples in her tests, and tests are harder than hell! Plan on getting a bad grade!
Very hard proff, didnt explain well what she expected for papers, HARD tests, sometimes boring lectures, hard to follow sometimes
Lectures can be alittle boring, but not anything unbarable. Definently take lots of notes!!
I loved her. I had the class 5 years ago and still tell stories of the things I learned in Social Psy. It was really, really interesting. She told us right away that she "didn't give A's". I got one. If you like real life applications, take
I don't know what these people are talking about! She is awful! She grades soooo hard and her tests are hard! Don't take this class!
I really loved this class. She is a wonderful prof. and makes this class interesting. I thought the material was really easy to grasp, if you pay attention. Tests cover mainly note material, she drops the lowest exam grade too.
Hard exams! You better be prepared to study your a$$ off. Don't take this class unless you have to. I got a good grade, only because of luck.
She's a very passionate professor, which is good. However, like many others, I believe she's unreasonable with her expectations. It is as though she wishes she were teaching at an Ivy school out east where students aren't working and taking classes.
Tests are hard? Yes, because it IS a 300 level class! Her lectures are very thorough and she does a very good job of explaining concepts. Actually show up, take lots of notes and study at least for a week before the exam and you'll be fine. Not a blow-off class, much work definitely required.
her test are not hard. you just have to go to class and then go over your notes a couple of times. it's a breeze
Thanks to her I have to retake the stupid class...very hard tests, smart woman, but be prepared to actually WORK. And make sure your grammar and spelling on the 2 papers are perfect, she marks off for the most asinine things...comma instead of semi-colon? Minus 1/2 point...it's not an English class!
i really liked this prof! she was so nice and used such good examples to help us understand the material, and she had some pretty good stories too. the tests were harder than i expected and i didn't do as well as i thought i would overall, but you just need to study and read the material and you should do well.
Good teacher, hard exams. The material is easy to understand but don't let that fool you, she is a hard grader and there are no reviews for the exams. She is very nice but many people have struggled in this class.
Dr. Henderson-King, Donna is exceptional. She cares very deeply about her students. Don't miss the opportunity to spend time in her office. This lady has a ton of class. Not easy, a bit of a tough grader, but well worth it. If you don't like to attend every class, this is not for you. If you are in college to learn, TAKE HER CLASS!
Awful class, horrible prof, terrible grader, not helpful. Tests are extremely hard and impossible to study for. 20 points of tests are essay questions and it's either exactly what she has or you get 0 points. Papers are graded with personal bias. Beware and think twice before signing up with her.

Excellent prof! She'll have you doing things you never thought you'd do in a classroom~PMR and guided imagery, and you'll love it! Pay attention, take good notes, GO TO CLASS!
She was absolutely amazing. Her lectures were very well organized, and I liked the way that she always wanted feedback from the class. Always willing to answer any questions at all. Highly recommend.
Overheads (not even powerpoint) are impossible to read and she twists questions around without ever giving a real answer.
All I have to say is that 17 of 42 people in our class received D or F grades! I was one of the lucky ones who got a better grade, but people who received C,D,or F grades made up 26/42 students. Likes to change wording of book and lecture definitions on tests.
Not a bad class, pay attention and take notes, read the book when she points it out. Didn't study and got an 89% in the class. Tests are tricky but if you pay attention you will know what to study!
Awesome! She really knows what she is talking about and works hard to help you understand! Tests are easy if you study the notes ecause almost 100% comes from lecture
My favorite professor so far! I loved the material, but she really made it easy to enjoy. She is very organized in her teaching and is easy to understand. You have to study for the exams, but if you go to class and take notes, you're fine. I would love to have her again. Just a realllly sweet lady!
yeah, her class is a little hard, but welcome to college. for such a broad topic she makes it very clear; she has a lot of experience in research. if you go to class and take notes, you shouldn't have a problem with tests. test questions are set up in this format: "if johnny is feeling this way, what is the term for his feelings?" very simple.
By far my favorite professor all semester. Every day she has a clear outline of the lecture material. She fields questions extremely well, and is very approachable and easy to get along with. If you go to class and take notes, you'll do fine on the exams. I would love to take any other class she teaches.
I loved this class and I think she's an amazing professor, just take notes and you'll do fine on tests. It's a pretty easy class and she explains everything really well.
Very nice and easy to understand lectures. She askes lots of questions so it keeps the lecture very interesting and engaging. I really enjoyed the class. However her exams are quite difficult but as long as you skim the book and attend lecture you'll do great. I miss quite a few classes and just read the book to catch up, and still did well!
Very good professor! I loved her, she was VERY approachable and knowledgeable. Take her for this class!!
Dr. Henderson-King is nothing short of a gift to the field of psychological education. She is extremely helpful and positive and cares a great deal about the success of her students. Lectures are clear and VERY interesting - take good notes, know them well, ask questions, and the exams are a breeze.
She teaches like we are 5 & takes a long time on each concept. But surprisingly her tests are really hard. It's like they are made my a whole different person than who lectures everyday. She likes to change wording of book and lecture definitions on tests and focuses on every tiny detail of experiments, etc. Atleast she drops your worst test grade.
Class and teacher are both really good. If you take good notes in class, the exams are easy. You have to listen carefully but she will happily explain or repeat anything.
Very nice lady, but a ridiculous professor. Her tests are absolutely impossible to pass. I attended class, payed attention, took notes, read the book, studied, and never got above a "C" on a test; it's like the tests are written by somebody else! Even though she is smart and nice, I would choose a different professor if you don't want a bad grade!
She was a great professor and given the chance i would take her again. She gave many clear examples and i thought she made the class fun. The class was very interesting and i did not think it was that demanding. I only studied the night before every test and got an a- overall.
I love her teaching style! She would have us do littl activities to help illustrate the points and it kept things interesting. The multiple choice on her tests was pretty easy, but the short answer was more difficult. There arent many points, so you really have to do well on everything in order to have a good grade, but its really not that hard
This was one of the best classes I've ever been to. I absolutely loved her teaching style. I would highly recommend her if you're willing to learn and work. Tests are harder, but for good reasons. She's excellent at explaining topics. Wish I could have every class with her.
I thought she was terrible. You pretty much have to memorize ALL material to get a decent grade on the tests, she doesn't post grades in BB. My final is tomorrow and I have no clue what I have in the class. Never responded to my emails, then when I would resend them, she would respond and acknowledge that she was ignoring my email.
This professor is great! She makes the subject interesting. She does fun little activities to spice up the lectures. Her exams are multiple choice and a few free response/ fill in the blank. Study her notes well and read the parts in the books that she tells you too and you will do great on tests. Highly recommend this professor!
Difficult to get A because she is very picky on grading papers. Books are not interesting. You get to complain about minor issues that we won't even worry about until we turn 60. What a depressing class.
The professor did not explain much and when questions were asked in regards to the exams she did not want to answer. Have had two test already and still waiting on grades to be posted, only response from her is the class is not doing to good, which appears to be a teaching issue. Not a very helpful instructor and would not recommend her.
She is very nice and her lectures are interesting. Exams are very hard though. She tells you you need to know all info from her lecture and the book which is too much for the amount of questions on the test. You need to basically memorize the entire lecture and that's the only way I'm barely getting a B. If you want a good grade take someone else.
good teacher and person in general but her test are hard/ridiculous doesn't teach everything that's on your exams. tough class and don't take it with her because you will probably not get a high grade.
Very hard professor. Does not prepare you for the tests. If you work very hard you can end up with maybe a B, but if you want a good grade, definitely take someone else!!!
Her tests are very difficult, I wish I had known this going in, I would have chosen a different Professor for this class. Overall, she seems like a nice person, but to be honest I think she is more focused on research than she is on teaching. She says her tests are "difficult, but fair," but when not one person is getting an A, well, I'm not sure.
The tests are multiple choice as well as short-answer essay tests, and as long as you do the reading and pay attention to lecture you will do fine. I honestly only read the vocab words in the book for the last test and got a B+ on the test. She tells you what you need to know and will answer any questions you have, or didn't know you had.
Ms. Henderson-King bases her grading scale on test only (master level she also teaches graduate class) When I asked for help (I wasn't doing so well on the test) she recommended dropping a class so I could have more time to study for her test!?! Ms. Henderson-Kings was not available to help in anyway. I would not recommend taking this professor.
Do not take this professor, If you have a choice. She is a tough grader and her test are ridiculously hard.
Henderson King is great. if you pay attention and take good notes the tests are very fair. she tells you exactly what she's looking for. tests are mc and short answer/essay. they are fairly difficult but not impossible. just go to class and listen and you should be fine
One of the best professors I've had! She gives clear cut lectures and uses examples such as video clips and activities to flesh out the ideas discussed. The exams aren't easy, but if you study the materials you will be fine! I emailed her on a Sunday afternoon and she got back to me in minutes! I would take her class again if I had the chance!!
Great prof, says you need to read the book but there is only about 1-2 m.c. questions on the exams over material not covered in class. I didnt bother reading. She drops 1 exam. Only bad part is the class is only worth 200 points, 2 exams, 1 final and 1 short paper. Very hard to get an A. Got an A-. Only missed 1 class took notes. I recommend.
She is a great professor who is clearly knowledgeable about her field. You take a lot of notes on specific studies and phenomenons so be sure to go to class although attendance is not mandatory. If you attend class, the exams are easy and she keeps everything very organized. Would definitely recommend
Dr. Henderson-King was one of my favorite profs at GV and I think her capstone is the best! The reading is totally doable and she even leaves 1 whole month dedicated to the students picking their own material. Her capstone theme is totally relevant and I learned the most in this class than any other at GV! She is super flexible and caring.
I LOVED her. She is really lecture heavy and most questions on her tests are based off of her lecture, so take good notes. She is willing to help you out, you just have to take that extra step to seek it. I would highly suggest her.
Does NOT provide study guides. Very unhelpful.
I absolutely loved Dr. Henderson-King! She is sweet, fun, and makes lectures interesting, even though they can feel a bit long sometimes. She only does 4 exams and the final is cumulative, but drops your lowest exam grade. There is one 2 page paper which isn't hard but she expects it to be well written. Highly recommend her!!!
This prof is absolutely amazing! If you go to her class and can take good thorough notes, you'll pass. Almost all the material you will need is in class, only a few MC questions from book, so you don't need to read it to do well. She thoroughly explains the material and gives great examples in her lecture. Would highly recommend taking!
The tests are all memorization based and quite difficult. Showing up to class is a MUST because a lot of what she goes over in class ends up on the tests. She's not bad, just VERY traditional and if you don't show up, she won't like you. If you want her help, make sure that you know what you're talking about before you ask for it.
You have to attend class or else you're not going to do well on the exams. Don't be late to class either, she doesn't like that. There's 1 paper and 3 exams but she drops the lowest one, plus a cumulative final. If you take extremely good notes and study hard you can do okay on the exams. Difficult class for sure.
I really liked her, but her lectures got really boring at times and we only had 3 tests (lowest is dropped), a paper, and a final. Her tests were pretty difficult. I would say shes an average prof, but you can tell she is passionate about social psychology.
If you want to do well in this class, you must show up and pay attention! Even though it isn't mandatory, she doesn't post slides online and they don't have a lot of info, so it is necessary you go to class and take good notes. She is passionate and knowledgeable about social psych. Definitely one of the better psych teachers!
The lectures had great material, very interesting. There were 3 exams 1 gets dropped & a cumulative final. The tests were difficult, there is like 3 written response questions. Yet, if you can get past the hard exams her lectures are worth it.
I love psychology, and it is clear that Professor Henderson-King does as well. However, I was never able to ask her questions (in class, through email, or at office hours) without her treating me like an idiot, she then would have me answer it myself anyways. No help at all! She was a harsh grader and her tests were lecture heavy. Pay attention!
Unless you're looking to go into social or environmental psychology, don't take this class. The entire class is about climate change and social responsibility. If this is not the area of psych your career will be in, the class will feel tedious, irrelevant and dreadful. Also she is the least understanding/helpful professor I've ever had by far.
She is such a great lecturer. She shows her personality & makes the content fun to learn. She doesn't take attendance but she teaches so much information in a day it'll be hard to catch up. There's three exams, a paper, and a final. She does drop the lowest test grade, which is helpful. She has helped me look forward to this class. I recommend her!
Don't take her capstone. You have to turn in weekly papers that she grades on a check/check +/check -/no check basis, and the highest you can get is a 43/50. When asked if it was impossible to get a 50/50, she said that it wasn't impossible but she knew the material better than us and even she couldn't write a paper that would get a 50/50.
She's very kind and considerate and even allowed for our worst three weekly reading quizzes to be dropped at the end of the semester. The class itself is very dependent on the reading. Be sure to read very well and not skim. She usually emphasizes what you really need to know from each chapter. Listen to what she says is important.
Taking her for a capstone is a bad idea if you have other responsibilities outside her class. The amount of reading that is assigned is unbearable and be ready for many pop quizzes. Her grading is based on a check minus, and check plus scale. Even if you did the entire paper, you could get a check minus from just writing about a different opinion
Very dependent on the book. She gives some guidance but sometimes she'll just say everything is important. There's weekly quizzes and 4 are dropped. Three exams and a final with MC and short answer questions. Quizzes and exams are open note. Not great at giving feedback and won't say what you did wrong, but you can do well if you put in the effort.
Quizzes every week except for exam weeks. However, quizzes and exams are open note. Four exams total including the final + two assignments. Doesn't give you a physical study guide, she only mentions what you should focus on. TONS of reading. Doesn't really lecture, maybe a few videos. Emails back promptly and well organized. Lots of work!
Probably my favorite psychology professor so far. Her "lectures" are more like structured class discussions, but she manages to keep them going in the right direction. She expects you to be an independent learner, and her whole class is structured to respect that. Essay questions on tests are graded a bit differently, so I suggest asking about that
For the sake of your grade, do not take this professor or her husband, they are both terrible. If you use 1 word that is taken from an article, she will accuse you of plagiarizing. If you absolutely have to take her, be very detailed with your summaries but also have your thesaurus ready because she is quick to accuse you of plagiarism.
Everyone I have talked to has not received a better score than an 80% on any of the papers. Attendance is mandatory. A lot of reading. Class topic/discussion was super repetitive throughout semester. Barely a psychology course. This class would be a good social controversy class. Rarely talked about psychological theories and concepts. Rude prof.
Donna is a excellent professor, and there is a lot to take away from Capstone. She is a somewhat difficult and asks a lot out of students, but that is how 400 level courses are supposed to be. Some topics were controversial, but you will do great if you put in the effort and have your own voice. She values originality more than anything.
She is an okay professor. You need to pay attention to the lectures and read a lot out of the book to pass though. Exams are hard bc she wants us to know basically everything and the short answer questions make up 15%ish of the exam. A lot of weekly quizzes are dropped bc she only uses <10 to make up your final grade. If you work hard you'll pass.
Prof Henderson-King is nice, but her class was heavily based on the book which was almost $150. Lectures were straightforward, but much of your grade is based on the incredibly difficult exams. There are 4, she drops the worst one, half mc and half short answer/essay...no study guides or anything either. If you wanna pass, better show up for class!
