She is so hot
A striking figure on the Sabin scene, she is, without a doubt, the hottest professor at UNI. Her droll drawl and baggy sweaters are almost enough to distance one far from the throes of scholarship. How I'd love to be the can of diet cola she sips!
Pretty good instructor, very helpful and easy to understand and take notes on. Those tests get pretty tricky however, so you better be a good test taker. Also, there are a couple of papers
Take Legislative Politics! I learned soooo much. The Congressional simulation is time-consuming but so worth it.
Very good class, helped a lot and learned a lot. She knows what she's talking about. The simulation was tons of fun....
A very nice lady. Class was really easy and awesome. Likes to engage class into lectures. Her accent helped to pay attention too.
tests are kind of hard, even if you study, some questions are very exact and are pretty much guesses
I liked the class, but the tests were horrible. I knew all the material and still got C's, so if youre looking for an A, dont consider her... although, she isnt bad to look at ;)
She is by far one of the best professors that UNI has. She is extremely intelligent and always willing to answer questions or offer assistance. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of her classes, but Legislative politics is awesome. The simulation is great!
she talks too fast, the tests are impossible, she will answer questions but uses so much political jargon that nobody understands. only take this class if you already know a LOT about politics. otherwise, dont waste your time.
I think i'm in the same class with the guy below me, I don't like her. The class is not fun at all. Tests are hard, don't bother with the readings, theres so much and its not tested hardly at all. I wouldn't recommend her.
Perhaps one of the most intelligent and vibrant prof. on campus at UNI. Take whatever class she offers as you will be challenged and learn alot.
This is my second class with her. I like her a lot and apreciate her teaching style. yes, you need to be up on your political jargon, but she is very nice and very helpful.
Best legs on campus. Second-best drawl, after Sonenson's stutter.
Very nice. Somehow doesn't think she has a southern accent. Tests aren't bad at all if you study. For intelligent prof, expert in her field.
Great Class. She is very interesting to listen to and you can tell that she enjoys what she teaches.
Pretty good class, kind of hard. scenery is good. Very helpful
She is hard, dont like her, she is hot though, 3.5 student who got a D in her class
Truely an expert in her field; would highly recommend if you have a remote interest in politics. If you go to class the tests are not hard. Outside readings help very little on exams.
she is hottttt
I like Dr. Hoffman. She's really nice, extremely smart and what do you know, she's funny too. Her class isn't hard but challenging. She expects a lot from her students. There is a lot of reading and essay questions on her tests. It's kind of boring too but she tries to make it interesting.

Sets very high standards for her students. Very easy on the eyes, easy to talk to, very nice. Class is challenging though
FORGET THAT SHE IS HOT, GREAT PROF, YOU'LL LEARN ALOT.
Not the worst class but certainly not the best. The essay questions are time consuming but not horrible. Has a tendency to nit pick and could cost you from going from an A- to a B+ or a B. Tough class that can be frustrating but yes, she is easy on the eyes
She is a good teacher and is very knowledgeable with the information she teaches. However, her tests are very difficult. You have to study for hours on end to do well on them.
By far one of the most willing to teach you stuff kind of professors. But resists change and new innovative ideas with a passion. Don't have a different and unique idea in her Social Security paper or you will fail.
I love how enthusiastic she is about the subject. She'd alway be trying to show us how interesting it was and that made it way more fun to be there... great prof.
Don't do the reading, it doesn't help. It was a wast of my time. Her multiple choice test are really hard. She likes to nit pick everything Take the class with someone else if you can!
dont waste the money on the books, reading isnt graded, all u need to do is attend class and u'll b fine, its kind of a boring subject at times but others it was interesting, i got a B with very little effort, 2 tests a presentation and a paper
The books are very expensive but are kind of interesting. Most of the material you'll need to know is directly covered in class, so buy the books if you want them. Class was fun, easy GROUP presentation, one paper, no daily homework. Recommended. Professor is of high quality.
She was gone on maternity leave for a large amount of the semester. At times, homework seems overwhelming, but it isn't hard. She grades easy on most things but her tests. Overall, she does alright.
Enthusiastic prof. You can tell she lives in politics. Answers all questions thoroughly. Easy to understand. Tests are terrible, but do the study guides as you go, and that helps. MUST ATTEND CLASS. If you don't attend, you miss all the notes, and it's hard to get caught up. Class is entirely lecture. powerpoint is just a skeleton of her notes.
The class was a lot more difficult than I thought. Your grade consists mainly of 3 tests and a paper. Make sure you do the reading and take careful notes.
Good professor - really knows about the modern presidency and politics in general - take good notes and you will do fine - plus, after you see her you will never want to miss a class!
Prof. Hoffman is awesome! I loved her! She seems like she is real serious, but through the semester she eases up. Attendance is mandatory, class notes are on all exams. Do the readings and STUDY GUIDES she provides: quizzes are from the readings. Grade consists of 3 exams and 1 paper. go over readings before test too!
Very good professor! However there is A LOT of reading to do! The tests are kind of difficult if you have no experience in politics or government!
Must go to class to get notes, all on test. shes really nice, but ive heard there are easier teachers out there. not a terrible class though. reading is a good idea because there's a few questions on test but mainly her notes.
Grade is based on 3 tests and a research paper. There are probably easier profs to take if you just want the liberal arts credit, but if you take the class you will learn a lot. She's probably the most brilliant prof I've had here.
She is way nice, class sucks big time. TONS of reading, and one book is really hard to read. Class goes by fast because she is cool.. but the tests are awful. I hear there are way easier professors out there, I wish I would have dropped it....
LOVE HER! She is by far the most best prof i've had. I took this class three times, failed the first time, withdrew the second, thought i was doomed. I had to retake to get rid of my F and I was dreading it but turned out to be my fav class. Not super easy but very interesting. Take her!
She is an extremely knowledgable professor on all the topics she discusses. Go to class and take good notes! Tests are somewhat difficult but basically straight from your notes. A lot of reading, but a majority of it isn't on the test. I would defintely take her again!
no need to do current event after you have done yours. tests are tough, but manageable. quizzes are over the readings. And there a LOT of readings. They are very boring too. 1st quiz is 10 questions after that they are 1 question and are easier. Soc Security paper is tough, because 50% of it is graded on grammer etc... Not hot, but not bad
1. D. Hoffman is not hot; 2. Her paper topics are REALLY difficult; 3. Her tests aren't that hard, require about 9 hours total of studying if you're not an idiot; 4. She is extremely rude to students in class, constantly cuts them off; 5. NOT a discussion-based class, if you like talking in class or asking ?s, good luck getting a word in
Hoffman has encyclopedic knowledge of her field, but that does not make her a good professor. Her tests are very difficult, her lectures are numbingly dull, and class participation is reserved for, "Special Occasions." Her papers are insane, especially in regards to her special form of citation, which is needlessly complicated.
Hardest class ever know matter how much work you do you will have to do even more and more work to even get a decent grade. Good luck if you take her for anything she is impossible.
she is a genius!!!
not hot/not ugly boring class not really easy. Not insanely difficult though. Presentation is very easy, Paper is very tough and a very boring task. tests aren't rediculous but you wont get full points unless you go above and way beyond on the essays. don't buy the textbooks, you never use the george bush one at all and the text is unnecessary.
Hoffman was one of the best teachers I ever had at UNI. She is challenging, but you will learn if you apply yourself. Her papers are difficult, and her tests require study. Her sense of humor is not readily apparent, but it is there. I had her twice, and wish I could take her again.
Dr. Hoffman is extremely intelligent and knowledgeable. Her tests are hard and her papers are too, so if you're not up for that don't take her. She is always in a good mood and has very clear lectures, so class is enjoyable. Expects you to do your work. Knows so much about her field of study.
Best professor EVER! She is very knowledgeable and pretty cool. Love her lectures and if your not an IDIOT her tests aren't as hard as everyone is saying..you do HAVE to study. She grades hard on papers so work hard and you'll do fine. Take her if you actually want to learn something and not an easy A.
Dr. Hoffman?s intimidating but a human with a sense of humour. She weighs a campaign analysis & presentation heavily, as well as the midterm & final, the only tests in the class. Attendance is taken & random assignments are given with lax student consideration. Dr. Hoffman is strict & expects a lot from her students, but you?ll be better from it.
Loved professor Hoffman! VERY knowledgeable about her field of study! Very assertive in her lectures. She has a funny humor. She is very willing to sit down and help you troubles in class. Expects you've done your work. Test aren't hard if you took good notes in class. Most test material is from lecture notes
Hoffman thinks that all of her students have PHd's. She is a very hard grader. Don't expect to get higher then a b- in her class. She's very critical.
I do not recommend this professor, especially to poli sci majors. If you know anything about your field, you will be bored to tears. Her lectures are dry and the information is tired. I skipped at least one class per week and still got an A. If you like a predictable teacher, she is very clear about expectations, but prepare yourself. Boring.
top notch professor, a wealth of knowledge, warm personality but shes down to business in regards to school
She is such a great teacher! I would reccomend her to anyone wanting to take American Politics. There isnt a question she cant answer and she knows so much stuff like its rare for her to look off her notes. She makes it really clear about what shes talking about I really enjoy her class all you need to do is read the readings and take good notes!
Hoffman is an excellent teacher with great expectations of her students. She expects a lot from you, but it makes you a better student. She grades fairly and wants her students to learn. She pushes you to be the best and wants you to excel.
1. Her class is very rigid in structure. i.e. she will refuse to explain anything beyond her power point presentations. 2. She makes everyone buy a $100 e-book compiled by her. It is comprised of dead-people documents like the Federalist papers. In my opinion, it is mostly for her profit. 3. Lectures are purely informational, and boring imho.
Class is made up of Powerpoint lectures, 3 exams, and a research paper. The book is expensive and entirely online, so get some friends, download it and share. (Though I hardly used it at all) Very structured, but if you show interests she will explain material. To get on her good side, show up and know your current events.
She makes you work for your grades. Tests are very difficult. Keep up on the study guides because she gives pop quizzes. She is always willing to help if you ask for it. You can share your papers with her through google docs and she will comment on it and send it back before she grades it. She takes attendance when there are projects in class.
I took this class as a requirement for my El Ed major. Overall this class was very difficult. The tests were all very tricky multiple choice. There are 3 exams, a couple pop quizzes, a current event required, and a position paper. The paper was easy, and she offered a lot of help on it! Attendance suggested and required on certain days.
Prof. Hoffman has high expectations for her students, but she is more than willing to provide extra help in and outside of class. This class consisted of 3 papers, a presentation, and 2 exams. As long as you're willing to work and put in effort, I'd highly recommend Prof. Hoffman and this class. It's not easy, but you'll learn a lot by the end.
Dr. Hoffman really knows her stuff. If you show up and take halfway decent notes, you will end up just fine. Just two tests, a long paper, a presentation and a couple of random assignments. She is great.
Dr. Hoffman definitely knows her stuff, and her class isn't that awful to sit through. However, her tests are difficult because there is never just one answer to any of the questions. Also, there's a paper at the end on Social Security Reform which requires a lot of confusing research and strict citations from her. Overall, not an easy class.
This class is hard, but good. Dr. Hoffman is a good, organized professor, and I enjoyed her lectures, though they can get a bit dry. 3 tests and a research paper. Tests are hard. Will give you feedback on the paper if you go to her. Even if you complete all the extra credit and study for the tests, it is very hard to get an A.
Aside from the difficulties, Dr. Hoffman is a very intelligent professor. Her entire class is lecture based; therefore, you MUST pay attention in class. She gives you study guides online, but you have to fill them out yourself and you will not get them corrected unless you go to her office hours. The tests are over her lectures only, not the PP.
Professor Hoffman gives you the grade you work for. Many classes say that you get what you put in. That is especially true in this classroom. Many students struggle with her class if they have relied on easy A's to boost their GPA. You'll pass the class if you show up and take notes. Very hard to get an A but can get a B if putting in some time.
She is one of the best and worst teachers I've had. She knows her subject area more than other teachers and knows how to teach. However, her grading is as if I was taking a graduate class not a Senior Seminar. But it does not stop there as her papers are extremely long and there is way too many of them. Don't take her classes if you don't have to.
I loved Donna. She's definitely hard-ass but she cares so much about the students and their mental health. I told her I was really struggling and she sent notes from the class I missed without hesitation. She does expect you to work hard but she offers a ton of help if you need it. It was a hard class but very enjoyable.
Professor Hoffman is not a bad professor. She knows what she is talking and can teach it. You can tell she is passionate and I like listening to her. She is a tough grader and will not give you an easy A. But, it's not like you wont pass her class. I have missed some class and Im still at a B. I would not be worried about taking her class, I would.
Outside of teaching, she is a very nice person, but when it comes to grading you better be ready to get destroyed. Very hard grader and one little thing wrong will not get you an A on that assignment. We do weekly current events which are really annoying they are due on Thursday. Hate going to class every day, but she always lectures in class.
This class was hard but doable. She does care about students and will do her best to help you. She is very knowledgeable about the content area and is a Congress nerd. You will do a simulation of Congress and it's not super hard but you have to do work for it. There was a 15-page policy paper but again it's doable.
Professor Hoffman is not a bad teacher but is a TOUGH grader. If you are an A student, plan to get a B. In Pol Amer 1014 be prepared to read 50 pages a week, pay attention, take good notes (On the computer! CTRL F is a life saver LIFE-SAVER for exams) Teamwork is so important in this class, without group study sessions a good grade is not possible.
I LOVE Professor Hoffman!! She is a great educator and is such an intelligent individual. I will say that her class is very difficult though. She is a tough grader, and her assignments are very difficult. What makes it great though is that she is very easily accessible and is very kind to each and every one of her students. I highly recommend her!
Her civic-mindedness, accessibility, and knowledge of American political history are all laudable. More Americans in general should try to be more fluent in American democracy--before we lose it in anger or get even voting.
Professor Hoffman is an extremely tough grader. There are on average 3 required readings a week that are very long and hard to understand. She has a very tough personality and is very unapproachable. You have to dedicate your life to this class to even have a possibility of getting an A. Avoid her if you can.
Donna is a great professor who really cares about her students. Her lectures are super informative, and she knows her subject well. However, she is one of the toughest graders I've ever had. If you're an A student, be prepared to get a B. Take any opportunity she gives you for extra credit, and try to keep up on readings; attendance is MANDATORY.
Do not recomend donna is amazing as a person but I really crappy prof. Anything she says in class can be put on an exam. She assiggns SO MUCH READING. Her class is test/lecture-heavy. The semester is almost over and I have over 15 pages of typed notes with one exam left to go. I recommend recording her lectures she talks way to fast.
She is well versed in her topic but is very hard to understand in lectures. Her lectures are very confusing and the readings each week are heavy and hard to understand. If you miss one of her pop quizzes, she will NOT let you take it. She also requires a daily news article which you also never know when you're going to have to present to the class.
Very tough grader but a very good teacher. Her lectures are interesting. Be ready to read a good amount in this class before the week starts because you'll want to be ready in case of a pop quiz.
Donna's class is harder than most, but if you do the readings and study, you will do fine. I only got a C, but I feel like this class was valuable to take. I did learn a lot, and it was interesting. If you want an easy A, don't take this class. I would take this class again and I'd try harder and study more.
Prof Hoffman is truly an amazing professor. She gives opportunities for extra credit typically with the tests (3 total). She does use her given time during finals week, but the final isn't cumulative, its just a unit test. She is not a harsh grader, there are 3 unit tests, a few pop quizzes, current events, and a final paper.
One of the best professors I've had in my entire college career. The content itself is difficult, but she is an amazing professor, and SO knowledgeable. She seems hard at first, but is very caring and helpful, just make sure you put in the effort and USE THE STUDY GUIDES! She gives you everything you need to be successful. I would 1000% take again.
