I had her for research methods in psychology. Not a bad teacher. She doesn't teach right out of the text which is nice. Puts overheads online. Exams are fair.
Easy course..good prof.
Taking her in the summer for stats. She is much more accessible than Coleman but does stray from the formulas in the text which has created some stress. Probably great for during a full term - summer is cutting tight for anyone.
I'm taking her stats class in the summer. Even though it's fast pace, she's pretty good at explaining the material. She's much better than Tansley, that's for sure!!!
Good prof, knows her stats. Tries to make everything as simple as possible. Fair exams. Lectures online. Go to class, it solidifies everything.
she's nice and has good overheads
Donna is a good teacher however I found her to be very unprofessional with her students. She was seen at one point actually making fun of a student in her classroom behind their back. Very unprofessional, but a good teacher.
she seems to enjoy what she does, but has no idea on how to explain it. she loves to have a low average in her course, so watch out for a C to mess up your CGPA
Such shame she's not teaching PSYC 3000. Amazing prof who works w/ students & interested in helping them do well by reinforcing equations in each step & giving resources. Loved her problems which made it interesting.
I wish she was teaching 3000! She makes the material make sense by using concrete examples. Her exams are fair. She tries to give you marks where she can so you won't be penalized for a stupid mistake. Avoid all other profs! Take her class!
Very good prof. Dropped Tansley during the year and took her in the summer, very good choice! Makes everything so clear. Very boring class but can get a good mark even if you can't do stats!
Has really good slides and decent style, except she reads off her notes a bit too much. Her tests are also hit-or-miss. But overall, she's prob the best teacher for research methods and stats
she was a good prof but a little dry. her classes are sometimes hard to get through but she gets it done. slides are key in this course. textbook could be a little better but all in all a pretty decent research methods class.
She made the midterms/exams very difficult. The course itself was very boring and useless! The final exam was completley the opposite of what she and her TA had said to to study. It was unfair due to all of the other classes were allowed cheat sheets, and our class b/c of the prof were not allowed.
Honestly she's pretty good and really does know her stuff. The class is boring...REALLY. She follows her overrheads so precisely that you can miss class and be fine.OH and FYI... the second midterm is MUCH harder
Class pretty dry, she's a good prof though, material clear, slides well organized and clear. Exams hard but not impossible, exam mostly from slides, study them well and exam will be easier. Text good but boring to read.
What I really found unfair was that we had to use SPSS for the assignments but didn't teach us anything about using the program. I also didn't like how she used different variables in the equations than the textbook, it made it very confusing when you tried to study.
She explains everything extremely well. If you say you don't understand, she'll stop and go through it again until you do. She makes a hard subject really easy! AN EASY A!
She knows what shes talking about and really wants her students to grasp the material. Classes are a bit long and boring, but thankfully she provides great slides. Exams are pretty easy, read the lecture notes and text and you will do great!
If you are an older student, a math phobic or have a learning disability, this prof will get through to like no other. I tried this course with two other people before I tried it with her. I ended up with an A;thought exams were very fair. She made boring material interesting. Take this with Donna !
I think that Donna did a good job with a dry difficult topic like STATS.My only complaint is concerning the SPSS assignment. It was a lot of work, and the instructions were not very clear. But overall, at the end of the class I felt very comfortable with STATS and felt that I understood the material
This course is challenging, if you are from a math background you will do well, if not, you can do well if you put in the time. Only complaint was with the assignement, it was worth 20% of your mark and she only spent 30 minutes explaining it to us. Marks were lower cause people didnt know the progr
I had a terrible time with this class. She didn't explain anything clearly, her notations changed on a whim, and she had expectations of understanding while skipping steps in the lectures. Contrary to most comments about her, I can not say that I suggest her class.
Sticks to her notes, however grading is wacked. Perhaps it's just me but grades with this prof are consistantly 5-10% lower than grades with other profs. Granted they're different classes but same field. My advice would be to try for someone else first. Has something against WebCT forums also.
I hate this prof. Awful, awful, awful.
I Would never take another class from her again.
I absolutely love this prof - her strongest point is CLARITY - you always know EXACTLY what to know for exams and her online collection of lecture notes makes it easy to miss a class or two (BECAUSE THEY ARE SO EARLY) and still have a strong grasp on the material. GREAT PROF FOR SURE - not a scatterbrain and it straighforward
Donna was really great at explaining concepts, and preparing you for exams. But, she needs to give more time and training on the SPSS assignment. She was a tad ****y...

She was pretty decent. Teh assignment for sure was a little rough, but the MC on both tests was incredibly easy. MOst of the Qs she copied from older versions and practice tests. The actual problems were easy to do to if you had taken the time to do them over and over again, following her little guidelines. I got an unexpected A in this class :D
Students of Carleton unite.. shes apparently not teaching any classes this year the timetable says..
very tough course. She is a very organized teacher but way too may overheads and not a lot of time for explanation on difficult topics. I attended every single lecture but only came out with a D.
Class was really boring. Her notes were very detailed and specific,90% of her midterms and exams came right from her notes, so no need to really read the text at all. Tests were fair, and easy if you study enough. I say don't go to class and read the notes and you're fine. TA's are there for questions. Decet Prof, nice lady. Study.
I got the impression she didn't like the class. lots of guest speakers, some terrible. You don't know what she thinks is important. Good notes. I log on to rate my profs fairly and give good ratings to good profs.. I don't just dump on bad experiences. Stay away from this one.
Didn't like the class. Easy material, but it was as though she was trying to make it harder than it was! She was a nit-pick marker too! But she gave a lecture in 3402 on psychosis and that was actually really good! (until it dragged on with endless, unnecessary graphs...but good overall! could tell she was interested in THAT)
Phenomenal instructor! As long as you do the work, her class is extremely comprehensive and very thorough. Grades will simply reflect how much you know...which is what grades are supposed to do, right? She was my saviour for PSYC 3000! Other PSYC 3000 classmates, who didn't have her for 2002, weren't so lucky.
This prof made very difficult material completely comprehensible. She was very fair with assignments and exams provided you do the work beforehand. She was always available for questions. She was completely honest about what was going to be on the exam and that people would fail if they didn't do the work. Best stats prof ever !
I'm brutal at math, and thought i'd fail this course but Donna made it SO much easier. Anyone taking psyc should take her course, she couldn't have explained things better.
Great Prof. If you do the work, you'll do well. Slides are clear if you go to class. Text fills in gaps in knowledge. Do in class problems. Read before class for the best mark. Practice every week, for the best mark.
Really nice prof. You don't REALLY need to go to class because all her slides are online, and as long as you read the text you should be fine. However she does give bonus' but a lot of them are in class, so you do need to be there for that. Otherwise I really enjoyed this class. The exams are very fair.
Forensic Psyc is very interesting and she bring in amazing guest speakers! Shes great, just study from the powerpoints and text and you will do fine, and obv attend class, everyone I know put in some effort and got a good mark, nothing scary here! haha
Didnt need a textbook. just go to class, follow her examples(she does 2 after every class) and go home and try to do them on your own. and youll get an A+
Excellent teacher. Course is no difficult, but you need to show up to class and do the problems. She basically tells you whats on the exams. Suggestion would be to write how to solve a problem on your cheat sheet. Very helpful if you don't understand, but definitely practice lots! Definitely recommend her!!!
She makes stats fun and interesting even for mathematically challenged people! She is the best teacher I've had at Carleton, lectures like a boss, makes sure you understand before moving on. Very helpful will get out of her way to help. Exams are easy if you do practice questions. And if you come to class textbook not necessary.
I liked her! Stats was hard, but she really wanted you to do well and made sure to prepare you for her tests. She, sometimes wasn't the clearest in her lectures and I would misinterpret what she meant. Her online quizzes were terrible. The only part that I wish she would change. But she is a good prof and makes stats easier!
Donna is a great prof! I struggled with statistics in the past, so I was really nervous about taking this course. I did attempt to take stats with another prof, but pushed it back to another semester. I am really glad that I did. She really explains the concepts well in class, and is really accessible! Would definitely reccomend her!!
Donna is a good prof. She explains concepts well, however she was a little too fast for me. Her lecture slides are excellent as they explain the problems much more clearly. You don't need to buy the book, there is an old edition at the library. Do her class problems after each class and you are sure to do well!
I still don't know how I feel about Donna after the semester. She was nice and tried to make the course more practical, but in the process there are a lot of little assignments that are fairly difficult and marked hard but are worth a small percentage. There's also a group presentation, however the structure makes it so group work isn't necessary.
Classes are boring but simple. Take notes on examples. Textbook not needed if you take notes in class.
The topic of quantitative research methods is not exactly the most fascinating but she did her best to keep students actively involved in the lectures. You can tell she really cares about her students' success. She is a fair grader so don't expect to half-a** something and get a good grade. If you have to take this class, take it with Donna!
I am currently taking the CRCJ 3001 A course, and she is an amazing woman! She is not intimidating at all, very nice and lovely in general! This is my favourite course this term because of her, and the material is not exactly exciting, but she makes it exciting! Love her, and wish she was my professor for all my courses. Definitely take her class!
Honestly, I don't know how to feel about Donna. She is a nice enough professor who clearly knows her content. The class structure itself however is questionable. 6 mini assignments worth 3% each which are marked harshly and are a lot of work. A midterm that majority of the class failed and a very easy paper. Overall I would avoid.
Not sure how I feel about Donna. A lot of mini quizzes (annoying becasue you have to be there to gain access), really hard midterm that majority of the class failed. Did not feel like I was able to approach her about anything. AVOID AT ALL COST!
Donna makes psych stats as easy as possible. Textbook useful for the quizzes but not needed to do well on the midterms/final. Cheat sheets make it possible to get 100% on the tests if you follow the structure for solving problems that she wants. Class was a little boring sometimes, and that's the worst I can say about her!
Donna is a great prof! She genuinely cares about whether or not her students understand the material and wants everyone to do well! She lets you have a cheat sheet for midterms/the final and that helps SO much. Just come to class! Step by step instructions are given too. You'll lose most marks from her online quizzes, but don't worry too much
The program is filled with pointless assignments. The fact that one class has a presentation, a midterm, and a final paper is ludicrous, and on top of that four mini assignments. Basically relives middle school. Class is boring an to ensure good attendance prof. adds in class assignments that are worth nothing each week. Avoid at all costs.
It is fairly easy, but there are a lot of assignments and she essentially treats the class like it is your only one. There is a presentation done in her class, which honestly is not as bad as it seems, but if that makes you anxious, steer clear, there is absolutely no getting out of doing the presentation without skipping it and losing the grade.
Donna is an amazing prof, but this course is definitely not her best. Her midterm is only worth 25% but it was more difficult than any 60% exam I have ever taken. It's not representative of what she teaches in class and she doesn't really prepare you for it at all. I'd avoid this class due to the midterm alone...
Professor Mailloux is a very tough grader, the midterm alone was terrible. It was both lengthy and difficult even with hours and hours of studying. It is also extremely difficult to like this course because the content is so dull. There was also a mandatory presentation.
Here's what you do: she'll tell you that you must buy the book to pass the class. Don't buy the book. The only time you'll need it is when you take the quizzes (exams did not have textbook questions), and the quizzes are open-book. So, go to the library and take one out. They're a 2- or 3-hour loan. Study class notes for exams. Good luck.
Donna is a lovely person but this class was not my favourite. She was not very engaging when she was presenting and her power points and in class discussion did not prepare you for the types of questions seen on exams. The guest lecturers were good but again, didn't seem to prepare you for exams. I learned most stuff from the textbook.
Its really a shame she doesnt focus on lectures more. Guest lectures are fun but it would be better if the textbook information was incorportated (in any lecture). MAKE SURE YOU READ THE TEXTBOOK. Quizzes are an easy mark and open book but know your stuff. Wasnt prepared for the exam. Study lectures and textbook.
Donna is very clearly not an inspired teacher or interested in teaching. She is boring, shows barely any emotion, and even her slides are boring. She does not include ANY textbook material in the lectures, and the quizes are probably 60% textbook material. She likes to include things that are never discussed in the lecture or textbook on quizez.
really nice prof! need to read the textbook tho but class is v interesting
I liked her lectures and exams were alright. She does her job in the class, but all the rest is up to you. She does not seem to be very approachable and caring.
worst teacher at Carleton
Donna purposely leaves things out of the slides and ONLY reveals them in class. She also releases quizzes during class so you MUST attend. She stated in the syllabus that you are expected to attend every single class, but I personally don't believe that that is always realistic. It seems like students' learning isn't the main focus...
She puts things in quizzes that were never discussed in lecture or even the textbook at times. Be prepared for literally no guidance for what's on the midterm. I'm a law student and she got some basic info wrong (she said you have mens rea if you committed unintentional manslaughter). she also puts 60+ slides and only gets through 30. have fun lol
Donna has this weird vibe where she seems nice but really is kinda evil. She assigns a lot of quizzes and in class assignments worth a fair amount. She will tell you not to study certain things and then put them on exams anyways. She talks really fast and goes back and fourth between ideas a lot and never finishes lectures in time.
She tells you to study something, and proceeds to not put it on the exam. Overall, the in-class assignments and quizzes are the only reason I did alright in this class, and that too her quizzes were STRESSFUL.
So nice! You can tell shes really smart! She gives of a mom vibe! Attending class is important tho
Retook to improve a D- from 2018. Prof seems decent though TAs basically do everything for the online sections of the course. Participation assignments+quizzes do well for building up grades. While different exam weighting was offered for pandemic reasons, we had no ability to see our raw marks or marked finals. Prof didn't accommodate us at all.
Honestly, do the readings and understand how to access the index part of the textbook and then the online quizzes are super easy. I never understood why people weren't doing well on them, they're OPEN BOOK. Exams are hard but if you study and read the book, you're fine. If you do all the in-class assignments, (just participation), you get bonus.
Best statistics professor out there. She explains everything from scratch and goes through the steps very clearly. She repeats concepts and rules for emphasis. Midterms & assignments are no surprise; do the weekly problems and solutions and you'll be ready for both. Textbook would help with weekly quizzes but I'm still doing well without it.
Honestly, the worst prof I've ever had and I've had a few bad ones. Convinced she makes the exams way harder than the actual coursework. Cried 3 times during one of the midterms and she almost failed the majority of the class on one of the assignments which I think says a lot about her and her teaching skills.
Terrible prof, she needs to take a seat and look at her student's marks and realize that if everyone is doing poorly that maybe she needs to check herself.
Donna was an excellent lecturer. She broke down the necessary steps needed to do the problem solving questions. Watch her lectures. DO the problems from lecture and the separate homework questions. Do them over and over. Exams were a bit tricky because she would make you calculate things with new numbers each part of the question.
This would typically be quite an interesting class, but this professor makes it one of the most boring things in the world. Her lectures are overly long and she often brings in guests, making the lectures two times as long and the guests are just as boring as her. She also gives an extreme amount of work, multiple tests, midterms, and assignments.
Donna Is awesome! She's a very direct woman. Go to class, pay attention in class, practice the material!! ask questions in class, or in her or the TA office hours and you will succeed! Stats can be a difficult course but her course is set up to support success!
I do not recommend taking any classes with this professor AT ALL! Very hard grader, she makes her exams/midterms harder on purpose. If you do need an elective, definitely do not take any classes with her.
Exams are way harder than the course material, her stats lectures are short so she rushes through a lot of the explanations, the strike really showed her character as she just complained the whole time without giving the students any leeway with her exam and giant assignment or answering any questions.
I really liked Dr. Mailloux's lecture layout and organization. It had a logical flow of presenting a new concept, giving examples, and then giving actual problems to solve with the new concept. Even though the class was all online, the handwritten problem solutions made me feel like we were in class. Stats is hard, but she made it easier.
Stats was a hard course but professor Mailloux tried her best to make it understandable. I am awful at math but I managed to get an A+ in this class by following along with her examples and making sure I did the practice questions every week. Her tests are hard but they are exactly what the practice questions prepare you for.
Great prof in terms of emphasizing how to succeed in the class, just makes Class averages were both below 65%, which in my eyes, is absolutely unacceptable. It could be dependent on the students as well, but if two midterms are both having low averages, this is a clear indicator that the questions are more than likely unnecessarily too difficult.
I failed math most of my life so I was horrified of this course. I made sure to attend every single lecture, stay connected, created a discord server, started a study group, and reviewed after every week. I am surprised I even passed this class but its possible! You have to stay on top of it. Practice, practice, practice!
Talks as if we psychology students have been doing math everyday for the last 4 years. This leads to having no clue what is even being talked about 90% of the time. Do anything you can to take another course/professor.
I have not done math in YEARSSS and literally had to drop out of grade 10 math because I was so bad. I have discalcula and ADHD and I was so scared to take this class. LISTEN EVERYONE. This class is not bad at all! As long as you do the word problem after class (1 or 2 per class) you will BE FINE. Take a deep breathe, you will do great :)
Made stats understandable! I was so nervous for this class but if you read the textbook and attend the lectures you will succeed. Would recommend. You can survive stats!!!
Don't be afraid of stats if she is your professor. I am TERRIFIED of math and this class was very doable. You get a cheat sheet for the midterms, and there is no final, just a final assignment. The textbook is not mandatory, dont buy it. She made stats very understandable. If you go to class, you will suceed.
The textbook is not needed for this course, you can do very well without one. Exams are based on the questions done at the end of lectures so go to class! Prof teaches the class like you already know math and doesn't answer questions well so don't take her if math is something you struggle with. Stats is not as scary as you think I promise!
I was super scared for this class, best professor to take stats with hands down. The layout of the lectures was perfect, her pacing was good she didn't go too fast, and her demonstrations of the practice problems at the end are the key part you need to succeed. If you need help, she stays late after class to answer questions.
Do not take her for Intro To Forensics unless you want to bomb your exams... many classmates and myself who studied hard, thought we did well ended up getting okay grades only after if she took off some questions BECAUSE the class average was so bad... cannot make exams. Very unfair and shameful to your GPA.
This prof is possibly the worst I've had. She skips so much information, and doesn't explain. Can't make an exam for her life. Be fully prepared to bomb your tests. I ended up with a decent grade, only because she had to take questions off the exam, since no one got them right - SHE NEVER TAUGHT THEM, nor are they even part of the textbook.
GOAT. I was worried about how I'd do in this course, but she made it so easy it was insane. Lectures were so easy to follow and she made difficult concepts easy to understand. In-class problems we did at the end of every lecture were the most helpful thing in this course. She reweighed the exams so everyone got the best mark possible.
This was my worst class by far the only reason my grade wasn't as bad as I thought was because she had to change grading on her tests because so many people did bad. The lectures were long and heavy not given reviews or key ideas on what may be on the exams left to fend for yourself blindly. I do not recommend taking this class for forensic psych.
Took class because it was needed for my major and its a class I was very excited for and interested in. I ended up finishing this class very disappointed with a grade I was not happy with. The lectures are extremely long and boring and was so difficult to pay attention. Professor is not very understanding nor enthusiastic in what she's teaching.
Took this course for my concentration, and I will never register for a class of hers ever again. The class average for her midterm was below 50% because she made the answer key so specific that one word off made the entire question wrong. Her lectures are long, dry and boring, and she is the least approachable prof I have ever had. Stay away!
The worst prof in the psychology department. Her exams are built off of material that she doesn't even cover in lectures. Her tests were so bad that she had to take questions off because the average was so low. She literally asked questions based on chapters that weren't even assigned. Do yourself and your GPA a favour and avoid her at all costs.
If you didn't do well with her I'm convinced you weren't paying attention. Explained everything so thoroughly. Answers emails quickly and stays after class to answer questions. Take stats with her!!
Professor Mailloux makes stats less scary. With consistent effort, practice questions, and tools like Unstuck ai, even math-phobic students can succeed. Lectures are concise but valuable - attend faithfully and you'll be prepared for the challenging but fair exams.
If you aren't math savvy, THIS IS THE PROF to learn stats. The course is well organized with clear lectures, how-to videos and explanations. YOU WILL NEED TO PRACTICE stat skills to prep for 2 exams and final assignment. Cheat sheet is authorized in exams. You CAN do well! Caution - summer sessions are shorter and taught at a much faster pace.
Makes stats interesting for math challenged students. Follow the lecture steps and solution videos for practice exercises. Lecture modules have very clear direction for path needed to learn. Textbook not required - makes content more complicated to learn than what Prof teaches. 2 midterms, 1 take-home assignment and 5% bonus marks.
