I really did not like the way she thought the class. Everything was power point and her lectures were just her reading her power point word by word. She then makes you play a stupid game called SimSoc that is supposed to emulate society but does not! She also makes you give a power point presentation. Her voice is very monotone and boring.
Professor Marion made this class very interesting and unusually enjoyable to attend. She is extremely respectful and considerate of students' opinions and perspectives. You will enjoy coming to this class and in-class activites make the material applicable to everyday life. Overall she is an exceptional professor who makes learning easy.
Dr. Marion is a wonderful professor. I enjoyed her lectures and was very intrigued by subject delivery and our discussions on social aspects of psychology. If you actually study and listen to her presentation you will do well. I got an A. Very happy!
Dr. Marion is a fairly engaging professor, and although statistics is not tremendously interesting to begin with, I had no difficulty focusing. her grading policy is lenient but fair, and her lecture slides are literally right out of the book. that said, be prepaired to do a lot of tedious math, as well as buy a specific (cheap) calculator.
Donna is great! Very clear in instruction. She made statistics a breeze which is not easy to do. I learned so much real world skilss in her class that i am sure to take forward into my research.
Dr. Marion is a fantastic teacher! Her class was not difficult if you studied. Exams were straight forward. They came from lectures and the text book. If you enjoy the topic of women, you will certainly enjoy her class!
extremely borning teacher, challenging class
Great professor, but I felt like her notes were misleading to the test. Not an easy A but very achievable if you study! Be sure to study the chapter reviews (pretty much her study guide in a nutshell) and use the website provided by the book. It helps &has questions in the practice quizzes that were on the test. Overall loved her energy and class
This professor is a bit boring, nothing about the way she taught was particularly astounding. However, she is a knowledgeable professor. Her tests are not easy, but not extremely difficult either. There's no reason why anyone should not get an A in her class.
Explicit 60% mean for course. You're better off learning material from 3rd party companion site sources. Would be great for a grad course; not u/grad! 100 question tests (which confuse) and not enough time for iclicker questions, which can hurt your grade. Unless this is the only class you're taking, be prepared for FULL and undivided attention.
makes the class more difficult than it needs to be, Iclicker questions are 90% trick questions, so chances are you'll get them wrong if you dont inspect every word in the question thoroughly . Not a bad teacher, but very boring and doesnt help students much at all.
As one student said, this professor uses negative gimmick at its best. Take this class with a more highly empathetic professor who doesn't focus so much on her 'bell curve.' Um, hello, did you forget you have a class you need to attend to or was your logic more important? How can anyone remember what you even taught at this point?
Dr. Marion's Social Psychology course was interesting and relevant to everyday life. Lectures were clear and supported by practical examples. Assignments and tests are not difficult if you attend class and study. Dr. Marion treats students with kindness, respect, and patience, and is very approachable, helpful, and fair. I highly recommend her!
Repeats all definitions from the book word for word as an example when lecturing. She needs to put lectures in her own words rather than repeating it from the book. A student would be better of taking the class online. The test is 100 questions and is very tricky. One or two words can throw you off completely.
Dr Marion is helpful and knowledgable. Anyone with an ability or interest in education will do well. I've walked away with a better understanding of the significance of womens topics. Explainations are accurate, clear and facilitate the proper understanding of women psycholgy as it pertains to political and historical arenas. Overall much to gain!
I have taken 4 of her classes, she is very clear from the start on how you will be graded so if you do poorly that's your fault. She mixes activities to help learn the material, you can always ask questions and go to her for help. If you study, pay attention to her lectures and do the work you will be fine. She knows her field really well! TAKE HER
The tests and quizzes had a lot of trick questions on them. I do not advise anyone to take this class online unless its the only class you are taking as it will need all of your attention. The discussion forums are graded ridiculously. I studied very hard for this class got B's on the midterms and final and ended up with a D. (First D i've gotten)
She is a hard professor but not impossible. Her classes do require you to study. She does offer extra credit and she will curve test. You can do well in her class if you read the chapters. Her final is a cumulative of previous test and quizzes. She knows her stuff.
Asks for a little too much for an undergrad course. Iclicker every class questions are tricky. Do not take if you already have a heavy course load. Weekly Blackboard discussions. 100 question exams, gives you time to take down all questions and answers for the cumulative final. Not easy but doable. Read EVERYTHING.
Takes pride in course structure challenges students to learn You can't take this class lightly Must attend and take i-clicker tests to get an A Skills beside reading chapters required If your intention is to learn the material she is perfect Don't take this class lightly Dr Marion is smart fair approachable & demanding
She doesn't teach, only reads the power point that you already read before class. Doesn't make it interesting and there are no in class assignments. Lots of reading, hard tests. MUST READ or will fail tests. Quiz every class using iclicker. If you can hang and have good memory you will pass.
Show up for every class, because there is an iclicker quiz after every lecture. Its only worth one point but they add up. There are 2 tests 100 q. , and the final is optional. If you choose not to take it, its an average of the 2 tests. She does grade on a curve for the tests an the iclicker. She also does give extra credit but never more 2 points
Dr. Marion is really smart and knows what she's talking about. Took her for social lab, there is a lot of reading so beware of that. Overall it was a easy class, one paper, 2 group assignments and a SIMSOC game. I would definitely take her again
hard. Good luck
She is a good teacher and very reliable. If you need to email her you will hear back relatively promptly. She even offered 3 points extra credit on our entire grade at the end. But you need to stay on top of assignment dates! And her tests are not that easy - study well ahead of time. But she does curve them.
Dr Marion is a very intelligent lady. I learned a lot from her lectures. The class itself is not very interactive so you'll have to do your best to stay engaged. It helped me to speak out and ask questions. Her tests can be tedious and annoying. They were super long and many of the questions on the test were unnecessarily tricky. Must go to class.
Psychology of Women is the second course I've taken with Dr. M, and I would take her again! Her lectures are clear, PowerPoint based, and open to student discussion/questions. Short i-clicker quiz at the end of each lecture, three non-cumulative multiple choice exams, an optional final, and five online discussion forums that are very interesting!
Dr. Marion is an incredibly rude and boring person. Her lectures were long, uninspired, and not helpful. All she did for 3 hours was read off the powerpoints and guard her attendance sign-in sheet like it was her credit card. She was not helpful and does not care about her students. She made the course A LOT harder than it should be. AVOID HER !
Dr. Marion is very nice and cares about her students. There's a lot of reading, great power-points, a study guide to prepare for the 3 tests with 75 questions, at least 3 discussions and clicker questions in class. Make sure you pay attention during lectures and study in advance before class. Reasonable grading. Curves grade. Would take her again.
Her class is not interactive and thats the way she prefers it. Reads to you for three hours. Tests are unnecessarily tricky in fact the entire class had issues with the testing format so that says something. All in all, I would find it very unfortunate to take another one of her classes. I didn't gain very much from this course.
I'm not sure why past reviews are bad? Shes better in person VS online. She gives great examples &does in-class activities so you can understand the concepts. Her tests are not easy but if you do the reading as expected you can pass. She curves her tests because she knows questions can be tricky sometimes. Iclicker + discussions. I loved her class
Very fair professor. Fair grader. Test are difficult. Gives extra credit. Attendance is mandatory for Iclicker quizzes.
I loved Dr. Marion. She did a great job teaching the class material. Yes, she is a tough grader and her tests are long, but if you do the study guide and read you will pass. I am also taking her for other courses this semester and already have her for a class next semester. She is very clear with what she expects so just follow directions.
Her class was not the worst, very clear in her powerpoints. She also posts her powerpoints online. Go to class, she does iclicker quizzes (10 questions) after each lecture. She does those after class quizzes, online book work (Revel) and 3 exams. She is super nice, just pay attention and study.
She's not the best, but she's not the worst either. iClickers every class. Test are 100 questions. 4 short writing discussions with 3 responses Few chances for extra credit but grades very tough. DOES NOT curve final grades even for one point.
I am not a fan of psychology, but figured it would be less hard than my science classes. Went in thinking it was gonna be a pain, passed with an A, didnt buy the book. It is NOT HARD. Whomever says it is is really just not doing ANYTHING. Read my notes (*read*, did not *memorize*) a couple of hours before the exam and passed every exam with A/Bs.
By far the best professor for this statistics class! I got 100% on literally every single assignment and exam because she's that good of a teacher. She teaches by practice! You do the examples so much by the time you get to the exam you know what to do. And she's super helpful with very clear grading but you can't skip this class!
You have to really not try to fail this class. She makes STATS easy. Test reviews are EXACTLY like the test. NO surprises. Homework every class about 20 worksheets which helps your grade. And attendance worth 25% of grade so another grade booster. Textbook isn't mandatory but it helps and she uses some of those questions in the book on the test.
Dr. Marion is a great professor. She is extremely organized and explains exactly what is expected from you in order to receive an A. Everything that was on the PowerPoint were in the exams. The textbook she uses is amazing because it breaks everything down to make it understandable to someone who has never taken a stats class. Highly recommend!
This was such a boring class and she didn't help the matter. She speaks very monotonously and seems like she hates her job. We have in class iclicker quizzes every lecture, it's a very lecture/book heavy class, and the tests are hard and long. I only took her because she was on the davie campus. She's nice but only taker her if you have to.
Dr. Marion is an awesome teacher! Psych of women with her is really anything but boring and it's SO INCREDIBLY easy to stay on top of the material don't listen to anyone who says it's hard or confusing. 10/10 recommend. Once a week class and it's on such an interesting topic.
Although Psych of Women is an elective, Dr. Marion makes you work for the A. Grades are based on Discussion Forums (4 for the semester), iClicker quiz after each lecture, and exams. Some class meetings would cover two lectures. Attendance is mandatory. Missing classes can hurt your grade.
Homework assigned every class. If she finishes lecture early, she allows students to leave or stay to work on homework. Practice tests are identical to the real thing. No extra credit. End of the semester option to RETAKE an exam of your choice and she will use your average score. She teaches Stats better than the other professors at FAU.
If you do your homework and study you will do great. I passed with an A! Reviews are exactly like exams. Attendance is mandatory and helps your grade. She usually finishes class early and you have the option to stay and do your homework . Overall, great professor.
Dr. Marion is a great professor. She gives exact details of what is expected and if you follow that, you should be golden. Not sure why some reviews are so negative. She is a great professor and ultimately wants everyone to succeed. Follow instructions and pay attention, you'll be fine. I took all the courses she taught and enjoyed them all.
Dr. Marion is amazing, she makes lectures easy to learn from and has a lot of material to be graded from. She is excellent in giving feedback and genuinely teaches the importance of the subjects.
The class was very easy. The was only two face to face exams and an online open book final. The only this is she is a very tough grader about the discussion post. But overall it is an easy class.
Very organized and keeps students updated, has lectures you can listen to on your phone on the go, very fair w/grading, fun/insightful assignments and encourages discussions w/classmates. One ex cred op at end of semester, tests aren't too bad. Would take this prof again.
She is OK. Took it for summer. The thing i dont agree with is the iclicker quizzes we get every time after EVERY CLASS. I mean i know that's for attendance purpose, but if you don't get most of the questions right, you will get not points which it counts for your final grade. Also LOOOOTS of writing. Like discussions post on canvas.
By the ratings I really thought I would like this professor. She's a good teacher but doesn't go through the material enough for you to understand. Also, you can literally have every answer correct on the assignment but if it's missing a punctuation you will get a 0. You can tell she loves what she does but not sure if she cares if you pass or not.
DO NOT TAKE HER. Her exams are 100 questions and is not easy. your GPA will drop. on discussion assignment if you do 1 little wrong error she will give you an F. she does NOT care if you pass or not, worst teacher i ever took my whole college life. sad to say but i wont be graduating this semester because of one class and that one class is THIS ONE
Dr. Marion is an amazing professor. I have taken her several times. If you show interest, apply yourself and attend class, you will do well. She gives you so many opportunities to succeed! Grades consist of 3 tests and 4 discussion questions online. I-Clicker quizzes at the end of every class that are incredibly helpful. Lectures are never dull!!
Dr. Marion is one of the best professors I've ever taken. She is extremely helpful and thorough in her explanations, and clearly very passionate about teaching. Her tests are challenging, but she gives a comprehensive study guide that is very helpful. She also posts this guide weeks in advance. Study hard and you will do well.
I took Dr. M for Psych of Women, I really enjoyed the class. She is very knowledgable, and does a great job explaining the material. That being said the tests are very long, all 100 questions, being so many questions on each test it is a-lot of material, and most of the questions are very ambiguous. Other than that I would recommend for sure!
One of the best professor's I've ever taken during my 4 years at FAU. Dr. M is a kind, genuine individual who loves what she does. All she asks from you is that you come to class and participate. This class was a lab so we had 2 projects but all of them were straight forward and graded fairly. Take her social psych lab, you won't regret it.
Anyone who fails this class didnt put in the work. Shes an awesome teacher and is very clear with her grading/lectures. Definetly would take again
Dr. Marion's class was pleasurable. an iclicker is mandatory for attendance and there are quizzes taken every day that later is in your test. Paying attention matters so when your studying it helps
One of the best classes I ever took. Participation and attendance are mandatory. Close to the end of the semester, there is a simulated game we play and the textbook for that is required in order to play and pass.
This professor is awful. Constant group projects, which I hate! I can't stand working with someone else. People think they know it all! A lot of demonstration assignments in front of the class. I don't get why in Lab you have to work with a partner constantly. Some people love that & others DON'T! Stop forcing the one's that Don't to be in groups!!
She took over in the last month of the semester, and her teaching methods are very different compared our original professor. I had an A in this class the entire semester & I ended up with an A- due to her harsh grading methods on the SIMSOC paper. I would honestly avoid her simply because she can really mess up your grade & GPA.
Ive taken 4 classes with her and in all 4 classes I got an A. She's not overly difficult, but not an easy A. She presents you the information and if you study you will do fine. She doesn't trick people. What she presents is what's on the test.
Dr. Marion is one one the best Professors at FAU. If you want to learn then this is your best choice. Quizzes are short and only one paper and one cumulative final with notes. I love taking knowledgeable Professors who really know what they are teaching.
I loved Dr. Marion because she engaged us and made it possible to really learn. Shes not an easy A, but shes interesting! Shes also really fair.
Really not the best professor in the psych department. Im not sure if they are different in davie (i'm primarily boca student) because she grades so harshly. She makes you jump through a lot of hoops when sending her an email. She acts like she was never a student before. would not recommend.
I really dont understand the bad ratings for her because this class is not difficult if you just follow her instructions. The discussion boards arent complicated but you do need in text citations and the tests are detailed (80 questions) but if you study and just listen to her lectures that she posts on canvas youll do fine.
take her for psych classes NOT for statistics. next to impossible.
The Pearson Revel makes it really easy to pass this class. As long as you read/listen to the lectures and study the experiments conducted regarding each concept, you'll do great on the tests. The tests are super long, giving you lots of room to get stuff wrong. The discussion posts are probably the hardest part. Loved this class!
Dr. Marions online social psychology class is interesting and different than other online classes. She uses an online textbook with a mobile app. She's a great professor with constant class communication announcements and super quick replies to emails. She gives extra credit and truly helps students. I will definitely take her for future classes!
Psychology of Women course she makes you work for it even though its an elective! I learned a lot from this class, but it was stressful at times do to how intense the exams were. I suggest studying really hard and do no procrastinate on homework!
This was a fun class! It was a very hands on and interactive class with fellow classmates. We grew close and learned from each other. There are 2 group projects and 1 paper that is based on the SIMSOC activity you do towards the end of the semester. Overall fun and great class!
I took this class online and really like it. I feel like I learned a lot through the class and it was a nice addition to my summer
This lady is the worst professor for PSY3234! She a very strict grader. Expects every assignment and Iclicker to be perfect if not your grade will suffer! She takes forever to put in test grades! She doesnt like when you ask to many questions during lecture! Avoid this class at all cost!!!! DONT DO IT TO YOURSELF!
Dr. Marion provides her lectures online with the powerpoint to go with it. The textbook is a good resource too, if you're not into recorded lectures. I did well on the tests and quizzes just listening to the lectures. The discussions were on interesting topics as well, and only 250 words. All in all, educational and super interesting.
I wasnt a fan at first taking this class bc the workload seemed to be more than I was comfy with. I'm sitting here in TEARS writing this because Dr. Marion was by far one of my favorite teachers I have had in my whole life. I learned more from her than any psych professor and genuinely became friends with the whole class. please take her class!!
Strict grading, but once you get used to writing out the formulas and work step by step-she is able to tell you exactly where you went wrong in complicated problems. SHOW UP TO CLASS or you won't understand the material. Stats was hard for me. but she explains everything thoroughly and gives you final answers to work toward. Practice exams are key!
Statistics is hard, but everyone thought Dr. M was great. Quizzes and homework every week, but the lowest grades are dropped. Practice exams let you know exactly what will be on tests (numbers change). She wrote the book, and it's free online. PowerPoint lectures are published in pdf. She helps outside of class. Take her!
I audited a course with Dr. M and although I didn't receive a grade for the class, she was more than willing to answer any questions I had. It was clear that she wanted her students to succeed- she worked through all the homework assignments with us at the beginning of class so we could see where we made our mistakes. 10/10 would take another class
This is probably the worst professor I have ever had at FAU. She did not supply her own powerpoints and taught only from the PEARSON material and the textbook. Considering COVID, and how this is an online class, IT WAS TOO HARD FOR NOTHING! Chapter exams are 80 questions, and the exams are only worth 20 points. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!
I was so excited to take this course because I'm a psych major and Dr. Marion got great reviews. But those were all for in person. Online she is a nightmare. This is my first ever B at FAU. She doesn't post any lectures, or PPT's. You teach yourself through Pearson Revel. 80 question exams on Lockdown w/camera. She truly did not care for her class.
Tried to leave a review before and it got taken down lol. This professor is horrible, if I could give a zero I would. DO NOT take this professor! No lectures, strictly reading the book. The "study guides" were just chapter outlines and no help. All the good reviews below corrilate to her in person classes. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
worse professor ever. she doesn't actually teach, no lectures or PowerPoint, you are basically paying a lot of money to teach yourself. She does not care about students or even a little understanding
I took her over the summer for Psych of Women and loved it. She is VERY organized and makes it easy to understand the structure of the class: Recorded lectures, discussions, 3 tests with webcam and lockdown browser, 1 quiz per chap with lockdown browser. Always curved our tests. If you're a woman, take this class.
Took her bc of these reviews but they are different for each person. I didn't like her because she was a grade stickler on the HW. One wrong answer you get 0.5/1 tough! She gives a pre-test that is just like the actual test study that! then gives the opportunity to redo an exam. She made the class harder than it should be. Other prof are better
Doctor Marion is a true gem! I had a friend take another stat teacher and from what I heard, Doctor Marion is a force to be reckon with! She is detailed orientated, has recored lectures, gives practice exams, quizzes and homework are a reflection of what will be covered on exam. Overall, she is the one to have. Dont consider no one to teach you.
ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. Can't go back on to questions on exam. Teaches 2 different classes and makes exam on the same day when she knows she's setting her students up for failure because people take both of her classes during one term! Does not care for social psychology. Creates terrible essay style discussions. Please avoid. Learn through textbook.
Worst online class experience ever. Students sign up for online classes for the flexibility, yet... she schedules exams for SATURDAY MORNINGS IN A 4-HOUR WINDOW FROM 8-12pm. Most insane thing I've ever witnessed. I work Saturday mornings. I asked if she would move the window to after 12pm and she moved it to 6am - 7:30am. Absolutely bonkers
Dr. Marion is amazing. By far one of the best professors Ive ever had. This course is not easy, but if you do as she suggests and read the textbook you will pass with flying colors. She really makes concepts easy to understand, and she truly cares about her students. I wish I could take her again for another subject. AMAZING!
10/10 the worst professor at FAU I have ever had. I usually never post feedback on this website but I thought I should warn students thinking about taking her class. Discussion post are almost impossible to ever get a perfect grade on as well as her exams. She almost always curves her exams because no one ever does good, that should tell you a lot
Some people are not meant to teach, and Dr. Marion is one of them. Was really looking forward to taking this class but have never been so disappointed with how a professor teaches, she really does not seem passionate about teaching and it shows. Sad
Huge ego, super rude, unwilling to help students. Definitely avoid.
Dr. Marion truly cares about the success of her students. She sets you up to succeed and is clear about what you will be graded on. There are powerpoint slides, a prerecorded lecture, and content related videos for each module. Review all of these for exams to succeed in her class, but do not procrastinate! She curves exams based on the average.
This class was a very interesting class to take, I fairly enjoyed it. The exams were fairly easy I averaged between 70-80 on each exam, 80-90 on the discussion boards, and 100 on the homework (you get three tries to get 100). I wish there was more to this class because it's actually a very good topic, the discussion boards kinda helped a bit.
Please do not take this professor. One of the worst Ive had. She doesnt respond to emails and her TA does nothing to help. Ridiculous amount of writing for a psyc class. Also the tests are very confusing due to wording of questions. Please save yourself the headache and get a different professor.
Wonderful professor! Tests are exactly like the practice tests. 22 homework assignments, 22 quizzes, and 6 tests. Ask questions after lecture and it's an easy class. She has her own textbook for this class that you don't have to pay for.
Dr. Marion is very kind and does care about her students grades. Her TA's not so much. They are extremely strict and grade harshly. Class would definitely be much better if they weren't responsible for discussion grades.
Worst professor ever. Very unsure how she has any good reviews. She doesn't grade anything herself. TA's do everything for her. If you have any personal issues arise she does not care at all! She does offer extra credit at the end which is a perk but that's literally the only nice thing about her class. Stay far far away from her if possible.
Take this professor only if you have no other options. The material is very interesting but it is impossible to get full marks for the assignments. The exams were either at 5:00pm or 6:30am, no other options. There is a study guide but the questions are worded in a way to trick you. I was only able to pass because of extra credit opportunities.
My favorite class by far. Fascinating material. Clear expectations, fair grading (by the rubric) and accessible instructor. Weekly quizzes, three exams and discussion boards make up grade. Fixed exam times in an online class aren't my favorite, but she did email the times months before the term started so we could plan.
Homework consists of easy quizzes from online textbook and 5 discussion forums. There are 3 exams worth 20% each, they are online on lockdown browser with webcam. As long as you study her lectures for the exams and do the homework you'll be fine.
Group presentations and open book/article quizzes were given throughout the course. Quizzes were to be taken a few times and then she chose the best score. A game was played towards the last few weeks of the semester and we wrote a short essay about our experience. Overall, I'll have to say this was an enjoyable class, great professor!
Great professor. Engaging. Organized. Responsive. FAIR. Yes there is work. Yes sometimes not easy. Duh. College. Take her!!!
80 questions and 80 minutes tests. Not allowed to go back on test questions. Lockdown browser. Study guide, lectures and power points will not help. Do yourself a favor and just take another class.
Just finished this summer class. Best class taken during my 4 years at FAU. Only downside was the "accelerated" 6 week course. I wish I could have engaged with the professor and material over a longer period of time (a regular semester). Take this course and you will be amazed at the stuff you learn that you didn't know you need to know, but do!
This class has a mixed bag of opinions. While the material is interesting, the exams can be tricky and the grading can be tough. However, the professor is generally engaging and the class is manageable with the help of resources like Unstuckstudy. Just be prepared to put in the work.
Took both Psychology of Women and Social Psychology with this professor and here are my thoughts: do not take!!!!!!!!! WOP is harder than Social, but her study guides and online quizlets do not help. Discussions are unnecessarily long. The best exam grade I pulled was a 90 with these two classes, I usually scored no more than a C or D.
A lot of reviews say "if you study you'll be fine." I did study, the material she provided. Yet she asks stuff on the exam that was not discussed in the study guides, and maybe once briefly mentioned in the lecture video. Do not take this course.
she gives practice tests that are just like her real exams (open note). she is fully transparent and a great lecturer. only complaint i have is that she wont bend the rules for anyone and i feared for my grade due to a personal situation she also drops your 2 lowest quizzes & assignments. pls take advantage of her TA checking HW and correcting it
this professor was keeping her students motivated during Covid19 online courses. however, she is more difficult when it comes to the tests. her courses are lecture heavy but if you genuinely are able to think outside the box for the questions, the tests aren't too bad. overall she tries to be funny and relatable which is a nice touch
Dr. Marion is a great instructor. When I had to take statistics, I was honestly really nervous and thought I would struggle, but she made it genuinely enjoyable and I ended up learning a lot. I'd definitely recommend taking her class if you get the chance!
