This class was so easy. There was an online quiz every week on a chapter, they were all on quizlet. The tests were online and questions were taken from the previous quizzes.
Really funny and laid back, she doesn't put the PPTs on BB but as long as you take notes and read the chapters, you should be good
Its a moderate difficulty class, the professor definitely helps. Does not post ppt but just take pictures in class and you can review later. The quizzes are not a grade but hopefully someone in your class bought the online access and shares the material. It like $90 but it really helps for practice for the exams. She will maybe drop the lowest exam
Easy A. All assignments are at home online, she gives extra credit. The only thing is that you have to attend class because it's 15% of the grade, and if you're absent too often then she'll fail you. You also can't leave before she dismisses you and you can't come in late or she'll call you out and what an email explaining why. Material is all easy
She is a great professor. You can get an A as long as you show up to class. There was no homework given, she gives away 60 points with a few sign in sheets and pop quizzes. She is very understanding and is willing to work with you if you are trying.
Amazing professor so many extra credit opportunities. At first the tests were in class, but after seeing the class struggle she made the tests online so we could use outside resources (quizlet) I really appreciated how adaptive she was. Literally the only bad thing i have to say is that she won't round up grades I had an 89 and she gave me a B :(
Freakin hilarious teacher! It's extremely rare to have a professor like her. All of her lectures were straight to the point and easy to follow along. Provides a lot of extra credit opportunities. Pop quizzes are a way for those extra points and just by showing up to class. Show up late or leave early, she'll call you out. Great sense of humor!!
Very manageable course, especially being taken online, and even for a 5 week course. I'm very glad I got it over with over the summer and in only 5 weeks. Highly recommended!!
Professor Miller was awesome! I took this class online so it was a little different. She only graded us based on our McGraw Hill chapter grades and also 4 exams. The answers to everything was on quizlet. We did a mini project towards the end of the semester but it was easy. She responded to emails pretty quick. It was an easy class. A++
Love this teacher! she's so cool! Homework is all online and the answers are all on quizlet, easiest 100!
Professor Miller is the bees knees ! Shes awesome. All exams and quizzes are take home and online. Her lectures are relatable. Attendance is mandatory- its for a grade. Never used the book. Even though it came with the access code (yeah, you have to buy it. Thats where the quizzes and exams are.)
Professor Miller is great. She is very caring and does not have boring lectures. I would definitely take her again. There is not much homework other than reading the chapters. However, attendance is mandatory so if you don't come to class it will negatively effect your grade.
Online course. This was the easiest class I have taken. The quizzes and exams were from the publisher. If you need a GPA booster take this class!
This class is structured in a way where it's really hard to not do well. Lectures are mandatory, and all quizzes/homework/exams are online outside of class. You could get by without reading the textbook, but I would recommend it because she prefers that students participate in class and contribute to the discussion.
BEST PROF. i loved going to her class, all test and quizzes were online. She cares about her students. fun lectures.
Since I have an important class during her office hours I cant ever go and scheduling with her is a nightmare. She expects you to make yourself available to her and will only suggest one other time block. If you have a class during that time block, she becomes exasperated and in the end it will make you not even want to bother.
I took sociology online with her and it has been the easiest thing I've ever done for credit. ALL of her assignments/quizes/exams are due thurdays and ALL have the answers online. Easy A.
She's an OK professor, she's easy but you have alot of work to do. You have weekly journals, discussions and assignments. If you miss something because you thought it was the next day, she doesn't care and will refer you back to the syllabus. Good luck.
HATED THIS CLASS!!! Be careful how you write the assignments she assigns in Blackboard, she will take off points for the simplest things. She expects you to read 3 books when most of the time she isn't prepared for class. She'll spend a lot of time talking about nonsense like her own family issues, her day, things that are irrelevant to the class.
Honestly the reviews here dont do you any justice. Awful instructor, all she does is ramble and wastes more time worrying about whos on their phone than actually teaching. Tells the same story about her daughter T every week. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. Avoid her unless you like hearing nonsense for an hour.
This professor is amazing! You do have to read, but she makes lectures extremely interesting! this professor influenced me to change my major! If you get the chance to take her, do it!
Online this class was easy. Only one quiz per week, and an exam every few weeks. Would definitely take an online class from her again.
Took this class online. Each chapter has a quiz and video quiz. Quizzes can be found on quizlet but the book is needed for the video quizzes. Prof seems super sweet through emails and I recommend her if you take sociology!
All the exams are online, and the occasional in-class pop quiz. VERY heavily based on the textbook, which can suck at times SO READ THE TEXT. She can be very funny one moment, and intimidate you the next. She values participation. Offers a few extra credit opportunities. Just read and participate and it's a fairly easy and entertaining class.
I took her online sociology course. Very easy A! You SHOULD take her online course. The online textbook is very interesting and the tests and quizzes are online. Great experience!
Gives alot of work. Grades are mainly based on exams with reviews but with alot of reading. Gives no second chances or even reasonable excuses except an amnesty coupon that pushes the test back a few days but can only be used once. Not very helpful or forgiving. If you absolutely must take this course, do so in person or set up groups to study alot
She dropped me from the course without any notice. She didn't even email me or contact me in any way. I had no clue that I even missed any assignments. And now I have a W for that course. Never again will I take a course from her. THANKS A LOT, MILLER
Great Teacher! cares about her student's. It opens your mind to the reality of many cases that you or someone you know struggles with when it comes to drugs and alcohol. The book is interesting and her quizzes/test are right from the text. This class in someway will speak to you on a personal level. Engage in class and don't be on your phones!!
She is a very rigid and unyielding professor. She also places an unnecessary amount of emphasis on the group discussion boards to the point where it is comical. I would not recommend taking her course if you do not like extremely stringent and nit-picky requirements. Class was based entirely on the textbook and a few online videos.
Had an A in this class until she decided to change up the way she did her exams for the final. Her first 3 exams had T/F questions, vocabulary matching, and regular 1 answer questions. For her final she did T/F and questions that either had 1,2,3, or even 4 answers correct PER QUESTION. Like seriously. Get ready for a low final grade. So dumb.
Don't expect any hep or care from her, she doesn't care about any inconveniences you have, I missed 1 exam for her course and she didn't care and it cause me to fail the entire course. I missed for a family reason ans she said there's no excuses no matter what. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.
For a professsor with vast knowledge of poverty and the systems that keep people there Donna Miller has no qualms about screwing your grade over so bad that you have no choice but to re-take, over technicalities and mere hours of lateness for online assignments/tests. Her "Amnesty Coupon" is just as big of a joke as her false sense of compassion.
The hyper-negative reviews I read here do not reflect my experience with Prof. Donna Miller in her online Poverty class. My minor gripe is that I found the discussion grading criteria confusing, so my discussion scores were mediocre. (I still got an "A" overall.) Professor Miller cares, and if you do your work, you'll do fine in her class.
This class has easily been one of the worst experiences Ive had while taking online courses. Professor Miller places a ridiculous amount of emphasis on the online discussions and gives often unclear guidelines for posting. Also, she lacks empathy or understanding for students who have internet problems while taking her exams, causing bad grades.
She is just terrible takes forever to reply to emails and has an attitude if you question about your grade. There is no clear explanation of what is expected for discussion boards and she changes the grading criteria for them so watch out. After completing the reviews she says it's available to look over before the final, but it is never there.
Took her for an online course assuming it would be easier, but was wrong. She had no excuses for anything that was missed, especially tests. Sick, injuries, loss of loved one, computer or internet shut down even it was a campus computer, she would't take it. Heard she was easier in person but that's up for you to decide. Not taking that risk.
She talked about irrelevant things such as her family during the class too many times. I really didn't want to listen to her family things, cause I was there to learn about sociology. She kept changing the format of each exam which made students confused. She didn't know how to lecture.
This professor doesnt care about your academic performance at all. If you have a computer glitch occur or something out of your control, she will not open the quizzes back up for you. Rarely responds to email and does not care if you fail her class. Never had a worse professor in my life
I absolutely loved this professor. Extremely easy A so long as you're at least somewhat aware of society and social issues as a whole. We even spent two classes watching the breakfast club. The class itself is discussion-based, which helped me retain the info needed for the tests. Taking notes for her class is easy and she is available always!
I took her for Mass Media. She doesn't like to lecture, she's all about class discussions. Nothing spoken in class is relevant to the online exams. Once you have the ebook, its an easy A for exams. I only went to classes to get my attendance/participation grade.
Her short answer rubric is unclear. You have to do alot of readings, quizzes, and short answers. Also she makes you by a separate version of the book that is alot more expensive and the only difference is some videos. Her grading criteria is iffy and overall lackluster.
Super easy online classes. As long as you follow her calendar and do the journal entry, you can pass with an A. I recommend this online class. super easy test and quizzes.
Taking social problems course online. Her assignments are not hard but theres alot. She changed the syllabus frequently and posted assignments very late so instead of having a week to complete you had 24hrs that it was actually posted. She would say tests would be available at 8am but wouldn't post until 11, don't wake up early. Don't expect help.
There were a lot of bumps in the road this semester considering the situations. But overall I had no problem with this professor. Everything is straightforward!
Professor Miller can be rude. I feel that she let her personal opinions trump her grading criteria.
The content of this class isn't diffcult but taking it with Miller made it so much more difficult than it needed to be. Nearly all of her quizzes and exams had a question with inspecific instructions or just plain wrong answers made more frustrating by the fact that she takes ages to (sometimes never) email back and is condescending when she does
This class was pretty straightforward. I took this class online and there were lots of quizzes and journals, but nothing super difficult. Be careful not to miss more than two assignments or you'll be dropped from the class. Since this was taken online, there were a few "bugs" and quizzes would not be available sometimes, but good class overall.
Professor Miller is so sweet! She really cares about her students and wants everyone to do well. I truly enjoyed her class, and if you complete every assignment its an easy A.
Although the content in Professor Miller's class was not difficult to understand, the way she structured her class made it a little difficult. The content on her syllabus is not mapped out clearly and she sometimes changes it without notice. You have to be sure to constantly check the syllabus or else you won't do well/possibly be dropped.
This class has been ridiculously frustrating. I might leave another review once its actually over but as of now my classmates and I have had to deal with so many bogus answers on quizzes and exams. If you try to email her about it, shell either tell you youre wrong or wont reply. Terrible with communication. I would NOT recommend.
Doesnt reply to emails, frequently has problems and doesnt fix them, changes grades and due dates with no explanation or warning. Easy class, but doesnt seem to care about her students.
Interesting topic, heavy reading from detailed book. Her communication is confusing, she has errors in her 4 reviews/4 exams. Helpful reviews but they are not comprehensive, everyone gets a different version, no sharing, just trust me even if she says its okay . Without the review its difficult to memorize so much material, easy course made hard.
This class was one of the easiest I have ever taken, but you need to advocate for yourself often. The quizzes and tests are filled with errors, and when I contacted Professor Miller she was always dismissive, slow, and unhelpful. If you take it online everything is open note and usually verbatim from the textbook.
Okay. So I thought this class was going to be alright since it is an online class, but she kinda made it harder for us to understand. There are no classes, you have to read from the textbook. (Basically teach yourself) & worst of all: she makes mistakes on her quizzes and exams. If you dont mention it to her about the mistake, she wont fix it. :(
I like that she was very attentive and although this was an online course, she still had weekly sessions for us to get more in debt with the class modules.
I loved the way the professor was very helpful. She was easy to speak with and she made sure we had a clear understanding of what her expectations were for the class.
I would not recommend this professor. She is impatient and constantly irritated. She is not accessible outside of class and lacks communication skills. She will respond very rudely and late. Not worth it, choose another professor.
STRONGLY do not recommend. There were multiple changes to due dates and she marked correct answers wrong on quizzes. She takes also takes forever to respond and will not fix the mistakes she made until you keep bugging her. Too much stress for an intro class. Also makes you pay for a website to write discussion posts instead of blackboard.
I would not recommend this professor. She takes several days to respond to emails and response sounded as she was irritated. Online modules opened different days every week and sometimes forgets to open them at all. Syllabus changes several times during the semester.
I was overwhelmed with how much work was given. Dont recommend
If you do not have the patience to read and get frustrated if your schedule is constantly changing, this class is not for you. Don't get me wrong she is a great and interesting professor but she does assign a lot of hw and readings. If you do not take notes on what you read in the chapter do not except an A on the exams as they are very detailed.
Lack of communication and could not seem to be bothered by students. Students were often confused about the assignments and there was little clarity. The late email responses always seemed irritated. Everything was automatically graded and I never get to truly speak with her, so I have no idea about what she did for this course. Easy A though.
If you're already interested in Sociology and need an A this is a good class. I had nothing against the homework or tests but the Professor herself wasn't great. She sometimes refused to fix grading mistakes that she has made herself. She's not nice but she's not mean. Wouldn't take her again unless I was majoring in Sociology.
One of the worst instructors I've ever had. She likes to ramble about unrelated topics for a majority of class time. Very uninvolved, and assigned us to use an online textbook that she herself did not understand how to set-up or access. This would probably be a good/interesting class with a different instructor.
One of the few things I liked about this class was that the homework assignments were super easy and you can easily get a A if you put in the time. But the lectures just drain me out, its tiring but atleast not that important for your grade sometimes
Really easy class, easy grade. Doesnt really lecture just talks about family and random stuff. Attendance is a grade. If you actually want to learn dont take this class. You NEED the textbook for homework and quizzes.
Easy A. Never actually met her since it is an online course. She always pushes back due dates to help out her students. And actually, I learned many things from the content itself.
I loved her, grading is clear and she gives opportunities for extra credit. Almost all the work is online, there may be a few assignments in-person but those are pretty simple and easy. Definitely recommend taking her!
you never really learned a lot while in lectures. you HAVE to buy the textbook in order to do work. the assignments are relatively easy, you just have to read a lot every day to be on track. attendance is towards your final grade, but you can have excused absences. shes cool, but if you want to learn, another prof would be better but shes ok tbh
the most accessible class I've ever taken. allowed to use notes on tests and even on the final. you have to purchase a program to access books and work, but everything is easygoing.
This was a very easy class! The instructor had very clear instructions and reasonable grading policies. I would take it again.
I would not take this professor again. Very easy class, but if you really want to learn something take a different professor. She goes off-topic the majority of the time and by the time she starts to discuss the chapter, there are like 15 minutes or less left of class. I am paying thousands of dollars in tuition just to learn nothing in this class.
Amazing professor. Gives great feedback and a fair grader. Course load was not overwhelming and easy to understand.
I would take this professor again she's super easy and chill her only down fall is that she takes 2 days max to get back to you on email. I've had tons of late work and after explaining to her my reasons she took all my late work in.
Really easy class. You have to take a lot of online quizzes in the book but they're easy and you should get an A+.
This course was fully online and self paced. There were a lot of chapters to read and knowledge checks/chapter quizzes throughout but they were extremely easy. You are allowed to use notes and reviews on the exams. The reviews had almost every question that would be on the exam. It was a simple class but not much interaction with the professor.
I took this class online over the summer, and the few times I had to email her for help, she responded fairly quickly and was helpful. Lots of textbook reading and vocab, but overall not hard at all. The review questions were the same as the exam questions. As long as you read the textbook and stay on top of your work, you'll do just fine.
She just fine.. I took this Intro to sociology as a completley asynchronous course, and she rarely responds to emails and when she does it kind of comes across as rude. the workload was light, 1 module a week (5 chapters and a 5 question knowledge check after each) and overall the class was an easy A, but getting in contact with her was difficult.
Makes you buy online textbook that you submit homework. Feels like I learn nothing after each lecture. She goes on tangents. 50 minutes have passed you by without realizing it. Did not go in depth about any of the chapters. Quizzes felt useless IMO... Lectures on Fridays. No point in going, besides attendance. She's strict on that.
Easy class if you keep up with the weekly module quizzes, but there is occasional group projects & 3 major exams. Be prepared to buy $80 book website needed to complete the weekly chapter modules. Only reason to attend class is for attendance credit because she goes off topic for most of the class & rarely discusses the chapters.
This class was very easy, you would only do a weekly module, the exams were very easy as well
such a nice kind person. she says attendance is mandatory but she will forget to take it sometimes so... there are three major exams that she lets you do online with no time limit and gives you a review you can use. you do have to buy a book through a website and that is how you do assignments
she struggles a lot with technology which sucked because this was an online course. She doesn't really reply to emails and if she does it's a very passive aggressive response. There are weekly quizzes which aren't bad and a final group project which isn't bad either. There are 3 exams but she gives reviews that have the same questions as the exam.
If you actually want to learn sociology, dont bother. If you want the easiest A of your college carrer, she is your girl. Attendance is mandetory but you will absolutly not learn ANYTHING. In class she just talks about her personal life untill class ends. Quizes once a week, four exams with study guides that give you the answers.
I hoped previous ratings were not true. They all are. RUNNN!!!!!!!!!!! Literally wait till you can get another teacher next semester or waitlist with anyone else, not worth it.
Fully online course, all of our work was done through sage vantage which you have to buy but our test (only 2) were through canvas. really easy course, I've took her in person as well and she's cool.
She is human, personable
Professor Miller was amazing, and her lectures weren't very straining. There is an online textbook for chapter quizzes and short quizzes in each of them. Then there's also a group presentation, everything was pretty simple, easy, clear grading criteria.
I personally really like her as a prof, i would recommend for people who wants the SCORE this is it. You just need to show up and honestly if you listen to her you're definitely gonna learn something
A module a week and quizzes. The tests were not too bad and it was an interesting class if you like the subject as well. Decently easy class would reccomend
I took her summer class and accidentally missed the final exam, it took a couple emails and a phone call but she was nice enough to give me a retake on the exam. I didn't have her in person buy she seemed very sweet and was more co-operative then her syllabus seemed. Just know she does take a little while to respond to emails.
The class was super easy just smart books, easy quizzes, and 2 exams which she literally gives you all the answers to. The smart books can be a bit time consuming, but other than that super easy class!!! Take this as an easy class especially if you just need the credit
